SYNOPSIS:

Tired of big city life, software developer Cole Sampson moves to a small Canadian town to get some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, his keep-the-hell-away-from-me vibes don’t work on his gorgeous new neighbor.

Waitress Rachel Malone is intrigued by the hot curmudgeon living next door and his very sexy scowl. Sure, he keeps shutting down her every advance, but before long, she finally catches his interest.

A red-hot, sex-only relationship is what they want. But Cole can’t get over the fact he likes cuddling, and Rachel won’t let herself fall in love, not when she’s finally decided to follow her dreams and move to the city. Still, it’s just sex. Isn’t it?

A few days later, Rachel did something for Cole that she’d never done for a man before.

She made him a lasagna.

Then she knocked on his door and waited.

And waited.

While she was debating whether to leave it on the porch or come back later, the door finally opened.

“What do you want?” he demanded.

He was just as hot—and grumpy—as she remembered. She figured he was about thirty, but there was a deep groove between his eyebrows from when he knit them together…like he was doing now.

“I made an extra lasagna.” She held it toward him. “Thought you could use it. With moving, you probably haven’t had time to cook.”

He looked at her for a moment, confusion etched on his face. “You brought me food?”

“Small-town hospitality.”

“This was a mistake,” he muttered.

“Come on. It’s just a fucking lasagna.”

A hint of a smile appeared on his face, and she felt a prickle of heat between her legs.

And also, strangely enough, on her cheeks. This was not the way she usually reacted to a man, especially when all he was doing was smiling—barely.

He was wearing a pair of black athletic shorts and a gray T-shirt that stretched across his broad chest. His hair was a touch wet, the dark strands clinging together. He must have showered not too long ago. She felt like she was getting a glimpse into his private world, the one he tried so hard to keep people out of.

Maybe he’d taken so long to answer the door because he needed to make himself presentable. Maybe he hadn’t been wearing a shirt… Now that was a pleasant thought.

She wanted to get closer to him, wanted to pull him against her and kiss his mouth, feel his chest against hers, his breath on her neck.

She jerked the lasagna in his direction. “Take it.”

He took it from her hands. Unfortunately, he didn’t touch her in the process.

“You can return the casserole dish when you’re done. No rush. If you don’t want to talk to me when you give it back, just leave it on my porch.”

“How thoughtful of you to notice I don’t like human interaction. What gave it away?”

She reached out and brushed her thumb over his hand, which gripped the lasagna. Might as well make it clear what she wanted.

And once she’d touched his rough skin, she yearned to touch the rest of him even more than before, to get her hands all over this man who was so unlike all the other guys she knew. Despite his standoffish nature, there was something about him that drew her in.

“Surely you don’t hate all human interaction,” she said in a sultry voice.

“Pretty close to all of it. It rounds down.”

She wasn’t sure he got what she was hinting at. But then his gaze slid down her body. And oh God, the way he checked her out, ever so briefly…she was practically blushing. How embarrassing. She never blushed.

Payback by Christina Phillips…Virtual Tour with Review

Gage…

I don’t fuck girls who work for me, but as soon as Amelia turns those big green eyes on me I know she’s trouble. I can’t keep my hands off her, and the almost-but-not-quite-sex we share in the kitchen is the hottest thing I’ve ever had. Except she calls it quits, before we’ve even started.

Instead of moving on, she’s all I can think about and that’s bad news. I’m breaking all my rules for her, and don’t even care.

Until I find out who she is and what she really wants. She’s after payback, but there’s no way she’s going to get it. No way in hell…

Okay first let me put it out there that:

  1. I LOVE bikers
  2. I really love books that have bikers
  3. THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!

Whew! I am so exhausted because I started reading Payback at 4 pm yesterday and finished at 12:22 am.  I had no idea I would not be able to put it down! I may have not even not paid attention to my daughter’s softball game (I mean I watched her played when she was up- I am not that terrible of a mom J) but I couldn’t help it. I had to know what Gage was going to do next. Aww that Gage- ladies you will not be disappointed by this leading man. Christina Phillips knew how to write him as a leading character. He was what every biker is suppose to be…in charge, tough on the outside and in, loyal to his club, just the right amount of mean to others but deep down his heart could be captured. I was seriously hooked in the first few pages.

Amelia is out for revenge for her father’s death. However, as she gets the job at Gage’s bar so she can act on her revenge, there he is making her breathless. I absolutely loved the banter between these two and I loved the sweet honest moments they share. What really caught me off guard was the fact that I loved the scene when they get in a huge fight. I have never been able to say my favorite moment in a romance book is the biggest fight. Oh my goodness, it is raw and heartfelt! I was dying to see what happen and then my kindle died! I have never ran so fast to get a charger at 11:45 at night- Ever!

I am telling you if you love those bikers like me and love a great love story- this is the one! I know it is #2 but I read it as a standalone and never felt like I was missing any part of the story. It is well worth the bags under my eyes today! Great job Christina- my hats off to you girl!

AUTHOR TAKEOVER

Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, forty-three weeks, and two days. Or so she thinks.

The boy she maybe-sort-of-definitely loved and sort-of-maybe-definitely hated has dropped off the face of the planet in the face of tragedy, leaving a Jack Hunter–shaped hole. Determined to be happy, Isis fills it in with lies and puts on a brave smile for her new life at Ohio State University.

But the smile lasts only until he shows up. The menace from her past—her darkest secret, Nameless—is attending OSU right alongside her. And he’s whispering that he has something Isis wants—something she needs to see to move forward. To move on.

Isis has always been able to pretend everything is okay. But not anymore.

Isis Blake might be good at putting herself back together.

But Jack Hunter is better.

EXCERPT

Jack Hunter turns to face me.
It feels like years, but it’s only been months. A few months.
He looks so much older—lines around his eyes that didn’t used to be there. His face matured somehow, the sharp angles of pubescence rounded off in a handsome, hawkish way. His eyes are the same frigid, clear blue, brows drawn tight.
“Isis, I—”
I pull my fist back and punch him.

Well I have to say that I enjoyed this whole series more than I anticipated. Sara is a new author to me. I was asked by Entangled to read this book in exchange for an honest review, but it was the third and final book of her series. The synopsis for this book intrigued me enough that I read the first two and truly fell in love with Jack and Isis. I didn’t think expect to enjoy this series as much as I did, for various reasons. I truly did not want it to end.

So about this series – it’s a YA romance that had me laughing a lot. Some people may find the ramblings of Isis to be a bit annoying, but I personally truly enjoyed her. She was unique and herself and didn’t apologize for it. Jack – we have all have a Jack in our high school days. He’s a popular one but is nice to everyone too. I love the bantering and the interactions of Jack and Isis. They annoy one another while at the same time, they keep one another on their toes. And then add in their friends, Kayla, Wren, Avery and Sophia plus a few new ones from this book, these characters really round out the whole story.

This book was probably my favorite of the three. Isis really grows in this book. Oh, she still has her quirky mannerisms and off-the-wall sayings, but she matures a lot. She gains personal strength and learns to stand up for herself, and just not fighting for others. Isis has always been one to help others fight their battles, but never face hers – it was her defense. If she was busy helping her others, her problems could hide in the shadows and never be seen. Until she realizes she has to face them in order for her to get what she wants.

Sara’s writing is a little different from what I am used, but it didn’t hurt the story telling. It just took some adapting on my part. I enjoyed how each book she dealt with issues that all teens go through in life. They may not deal with it directly, but they are affected by it through either their friends, family or acquaintances through school. Sara told a beautiful story overall – we are all different and loved the same. I also enjoyed the small bit of secrecy and espionage stuff that Jack dabbled in – it added a different element to the story.

Overall, if you are a YA lover like me, you really enjoy this series. Sara does a great job of building these characters and the plot lines. The writing is perfectly paced and everything pans out really well. I look forward to reading more from Sara in the future.

OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES

Amazon | B&N |iBooks | Kobo | Amazon.co.uk | Amazon.ca | Entangled Publishing

I was not sure what to expect when I started reading this. I was asked to review the third book in this series, so I had to read the first two in order to read the third properly and well, I was pleasantly surprised. However, I will mention that if you can’t handle extreme immaturity of teens, don’t read this. There is a lot and it will drive you batty. For me, I found it funny most of the time and added some humor to this YA book.

“A boy broke my heart. No, more than that. He broke m soul, my heart, and who I used to be.”

Isis moves away to help her mom heal. She is getting her fresh start too. She was broken by Nameless and has sworn off love altogether. Isis meets Jack at a party when he makes the only friend she had made, cry. She makes her mission to take him down. Jack is known as Ice Prince and the whole school seems to avoid him for reasons unknown to Isis. But reasons she’s determined to find out.

This was a cute story to read. There were times where I felt certain scenes didn’t make sense and had me scratching my head. But the overall story line had me too interested to really care. LOL Sara’s writing style is a little different from what I am use to, so that took some time for me to get a handle on, but it didn’t hurt the flow or anything. The ending has me scratching my head a bit but I shall wait and see how Sara unfolds this in the next book before I judge too harshly on this one.

I have to admit I am quite interested to see how this plays out in the end. For a YA story, it’s definitely different than what I have read in the past, but unique and entertaining enough that I can’t not see where this all goes.

Amazon | B&N | iBooks | Kobo | Amazon.ca | Amazon.co.uk

Forget Me Always is the second book in this series and starts off where Love Me Never ended. Jack saved Isis and her mom from Leo but not until after Leo had already inflicted enough abuse of them and leaving Isis with memory loss – she remembers almost everything, but nothing about Jack.

As I stated in my review of Love Me Never, this is a YA with some eye-rolling antics and commentary, but it’s expected of teenagers. Isis is slowly gaining her memory back bit by bit, but has to piece it all together. All the while, she is learning more about Sophia, Avery, Wren and Jack as her memory comes back. And in typical Isis fashion, she inserts herself whether she is wanted or not; not thinking of the consequences and how that will affect everyone involved.

There are some things that are revealed that did surprise me and did add to the animosity amongst these once upon a time best friends. The characters don’t so much as grow in this book, but they try to become a better person than what they’ve been. Isis and Jack did give me some whiplash with their back and forth with one another and uncertainty of what they want from each other. But it’s expected too with these two because they both know how to push the other. They force each other to deal with things they’ve chosen to run away from before, even if they do it in a juvenile way.

“And Naomi! My, what big hands you have. The better to grab me with, am I right? Ack, gently, woman! I’m damaged goods!”

He’s Jack Hunter, the greatest douche who’s ever douched. Or not douched, because he’s a guy. Ugh, I really do gross myself out sometimes.

I have to say that Isis grew on me in this book. Her off the wall comments had me laughing and shaking my head at the same time. You can definitely tell humor is her go to coping mechanism but she’s never annoying with it. If I am seeing a theme here, Sara is trying to handle a different problem that teenagers face in their years and how each person deals with it in each book. I did see the ending coming in this book but that did not change my rating or thoughts on this book in any way.

I am much more curious to see where Sara takes this series in her final book. The one person tying them all together in ways they never expected is no longer alive – where do they all go from here???

Sara Wolf is a twenty-something author who adores baking, screaming at her cats, and screaming at herself while she types hilarious things. When she was a kid, she was too busy eating dirt to write her first terrible book. Twenty years later, she picked up a keyboard and started mashing her fists on it and created the monster known as the Lovely Vicious series. She lives in San Diego with two cats, a crippling-yet-refreshing sense of self-doubt, and not enough fruit tarts ever.

Author Q&A with Brian Freeman, author of Marathon

Brian Freeman’s heart-pounding new thriller, MARATHON (QUERCUS, 5/2/17), draws inspiration from recent events to paint a portrait of crime in an American city that is also a dark reflection of national politics. With echoes of the Boston Marathon bombing, when people’s lives were forever changed at the finish line, this timely and poignant novel addresses some of the defining issues of our time: terrorism, fear of the other, and the raw power of social media to shape the public’s understanding of events.

On a rainy June morning, tens of thousands of people crowd into Duluth for the city’s biggest annual event: the Duluth Marathon. Exhausted runners push to reach the finish line and spectators line the streets to cheer them on. Then an explosion along the racecourse leaves dozens of people dead or injured.

Within minutes, Duluth PD homicide detective Jonathan Stride, Serena Dial, and Maggie Bei get to work sifting the debris for clues to who’s behind the bombing. Soon the investigation is taken over by the FBI, whose lead agent is certain the act has all the hallmarks of Islamic terrorism. Complicating matters, the social media feed of a conservative First Amendment activist immediately floods the community with rumors and unfiltered information about the bombing.

One spectator, joining the community-wide effort to help the authorities, remembers being jostled by a young man with a backpack not far from the bomb site. He spots the man in a crowded photo of the event and tweets out that this is  the same individual who bumped into him in the crowd—but now the backpack is missing.
In a matter of minutes, the young man identified in the tweet, Pakistani immigrant and cab driver Khan Rashid, becomes the target of a massive manhunt

But are the answers behind the Duluth bombing more complex than anyone realizes? And can Stride, Serena, and Maggie get to the truth before more innocent people are killed in the spiraling confrontation between the Feds and the Islamic community?

1.)  Can you tell us a bit about the research that went into Marathon?

Doing the research for this book was both scary and uplifting.  On the scary side:  I got a crash course in bombmaking and the security demands for large-scale events.  However, despite the ongoing threat of violence, there are few events more inspirational than a marathon.  It’s such a personal triumph for every individual who participates.  My wife and I have been spectators at the marathon in Duluth for the last two years, and it’s an extraordinary experience.

I also got to know Muslims in Minnesota and learned more about their values, their family life, and their religion.  It was an honor.  And I was pleased to find their love of the U.S. undimmed by the fact that they are often caught in the middle between the extremists who have hijacked their religion and the angry rhetoric that arises in the wake of terrorism.

2.)  What is the biggest lesson that Stride learns in Marathon?

People assume that the title MARATHON refers to the race.  In fact, the title arises out of one of Jonathan Stride’s lines in the book.  In talking to a Muslim leader, he says: “Building trust between us isn’t a sprint.  It’s a marathon.”  That’s the lesson for Stride as he tries to keep his community together.  Hopefully, it’s a lesson for all of us.  We have to talk to each other.  That’s how we stop hatred, and in the end, that’s how we stop violence, too.

3.)  Give us a glimpse inside the cover design – what was that process like?

It’s a shocking cover:  the debris of an explosion in black and white, and a man with a backpack in the middle of it.  With most covers, we go through several iterations to find an image that closely fits the book and the theme.  This time, we knew it was right from the first review.  Everyone thought this cover would grip readers and make them pull the book off the shelf.

4.)  Social media plays a huge role in this book. Where do you see the world of social media and all its implications 10 years from now?

Yes, Twitter is almost a “character” in this novel.  I wanted to showcase the way social media contributes to the divisions in society and the way misinformation can spread like wildfire – sometimes with tragic results.  Social media has become a player in every crime scene.  What will we see in 10 years?  I don’t think you can turn back time, but I hope we will learn some patience again.  Technology moves at the speed of light, but human beings don’t.  Tragedies should force us to slow down.

5.)  What is up next for Jonathan Stride?

I haven’t even begun to think about what’s next!  Stride is a character who grows and changes with every book, and MARATHON is bound to take an emotional toll on him.

I write every Stride novel so that new readers can embrace the series even if they haven’t read any of the previous books.   That’s especially true of MARATHON.  It’s also a novel that’s perfect for book club discussions because of the timeliness of the issues, so I hope many book club readers discover it.  In fact, you can invite me to join your discussion by FaceTime or Skype by writing to me at brian@bfreemanbooks.com.

Read an excerpt from FRAUD

What had started as a fun little game to bring this timid beauty out of her shell somehow turned into a wrestling match.

And I was the one about to lose.

Katelyn O’Malley was nothing like I’d imagined.

What had I imagined?

I wasn’t sure exactly.

I’d diligently done my homework— reading Scandal not once, but twice— before I’d hopped on a plane to Oregon. I’d thought the novel would give me insight to this perplexing woman I was about to meet.

It hadn’t.

Not one bit.

If anything, it’d created a thousand more questions.

At first, cracking her ironclad shell seemed like a daunting task. She had come off dry and dull.

God-awful boring.

But boring women didn’t do tequila shots until two in the morning.

Boring women didn’t lie to waiters for free wine and dessert.

And boring women definitely didn’t make me feel this way.

Needy. Desperate. And fucking horny as hell.

Even the way she licked the chocolate off her fork was making me shift uncomfortably in my seat.

This was a job.

Get your head in the game.

“You were pretty good at that,” I said, trying not to stare at the way her pink tongue darted out to grab the last bit of mousse from the tip of her finger.

“Good at what?” she asked.

“Lying.”

She let out a choking cough, patting her chest with her palm. “I’m not a good liar,” she argued.

“Really? You seemed to have everyone around us fooled, including that charming elderly couple who offered their congratulations on their way out.”

“That really was sweet.” She smiled, a touch of whimsy in her gaze. “Did you see the way they held hands? I’m pretty sure he even grabbed her ass when she walked past him to go to the restroom.”

I laughed. “My kind of guy.”

“I just wonder what it’s like— to be that in love after all that time,” she said, bending forward and resting the curve of her chin on her hand.

“How do you know it has been a long time?” I asked. “Maybe they got married late in life.”

She shook her head. “I don’t think so.”

“Why?” I asked, curious how she’d reached that conclusion.

“There was a familiarity in the way they touched. The way they leaned into one another, the way they walked. It was as if they’d been doing so forever.”

I studied her for a quiet moment, recalling the intensity of her words and the passion in her voice. It was the first time since meeting Katelyn O’Malley, I could actually see a sliver of Laura Stone, the author, somewhere inside.

“I do believe you are a bit of a romantic at heart,” I replied.

She smiled sweetly. “Maybe a hopeless one.”

My hand reached out to hers, a needless gesture since we’d already achieved our goal for the evening and sold everyone on our false marital status.

This time, I touched her because I wanted to.

“Definitely not hopeless,” I said softly, knowing that instant that I was crossing the line between business and pleasure.

And heading straight to the land of hell.

“So, tell me about technical editing,” she said, shifting topics. “How does one get into something like that?”

I suddenly felt like I’d been hit in the face with a bucket of ice water. Here I was, in a dimly lit room, romancing the hell out of a woman I’d just met, and then reality hit.

I was lying to her.

Flat-out lying.

I needed to remember that. “There’s not much to tell,” I said, straightening slightly in my chair. “Rather boring really.”

We continued to chat about our lives. She told me more about her work at the college. I rambled off more lies about mine until the check came around.

I was feeling quite good about myself as I led us outside.

My head was clear.

But then I saw the way the moonlight highlighted her golden-blonde hair. I became mesmerized by the sway of her hips and the soft curves of her body.

Katelyn O’Malley was casting a spell on me, and she didn’t even know it.

And I wasn’t sure I wanted her to stop.

Excerpt:

There was little that would keep them warm tonight, except each other’s body heat. Dex tried not to smile, reminding himself that they were stranded in the middle of a desert with little water.

Water. He bent to get the half bottle that was left. A small piece of rock jumped, blowing a tiny amount of dust in the air. He was moving before his brain had caught up with what he’d seen. He jumped at Eleanor, yanking her to the ground. “Sniper!” he yelled, even though she was underneath him.

Another sliver of rock exploded, close to his knee. “We’re pinned.” Adrenaline spiked through his blood.

“We’ve got company,” he said, moving his body fractionally so she could turn her head to see the truck steaming across the flat base of the valley. Dust spat up behind it like it was on fire.

“Can you reach the backpack?” she asked.

Nope. Not without being target practice. “Sure. Wait a moment.” He slid off her and crawled, flat-out like a crab, toward the bag. He hooked it in his elbow and made his way back. He knew he was a wide open target. But there was no shot. No chipped off rocks, and no dust.

“The sniper is not trying to kill us,” he said.

“Care to test that theory?” she asked rooting around in the backpack.

“Not really.”

“Okay, I will.” Before he could say anything, she sat up bag between her legs and looked at the truck coming toward them.

“Damn, do you have a death-wish?” Now he just felt like a complete tool, lying down, as if he were cowering from something she wasn’t scared of. He sat up and joined her.

“He’s pinning us down all right, but I think he’s just keeping us in place so that these guys can get us.” She pulled a Maglite from the bag they had taken.

“And that’s your weapon of choice?”

She turned and smiled at him. “Only for the sniper.”

Then he understood what she was doing. He pulled out his weapon and chambered a round. “It’s going to be tricky.”

“What have we got to lose?” She cocked an eyebrow.

“A beautiful wedding in Gretna Green?” he asked.

“What’s Gretna Green?” She took her weapon from her pocket and charged it.

“It’s where we are will be eloping to. A town in Scotland where you can get married without any ceremony, or registration. It’s like the Vegas of Europe.”

“What makes you think I want to elope? What makes you think I don’t want a huge dress, a huge cake, and eight attendants?”

“Well I’m certainly up for a huge cake.” He shrugged. “Whatever gets you to the altar.”

Her mouth dropped open. “Wait a minute, you don’t think we getting out of this alive, do you? You think we’re going to die here in the desert at the hands of these…whoever is trying to kill us, and you’ll never have to marry me. We’ll be dead, won’t we?”

“I’m hurt by your cynicism. And yes, maybe you’re right, but it’s got to say something that I’m at death’s door and the only woman I want to marry is you.” He tried not to smile.

“I’m the only woman here.” She reached over and shoved him.

A rock exploded at their feet. “Shit. Now you’re just trying to get me killed, so you don’t have to marry me.”

Cover Reveal…..Royally Endowed by Emma Chase

Logan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, protective royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.
***
Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to bring him home to her family.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love.

“Are we a happy couple?”

“I don’t think we’ve had time enough to be sure of that yet, but I know we were once.” She’d thought it through in a way she never had before. She had a much different view of those months with Kash in England. “You were courting me back then, weren’t you? You wanted me to be your girlfriend.”

He sat down in the plush chair that dominated the sitting area portion of his bedroom. Normally they stayed in the living room, but he’d wanted more privacy. This was the only place in his suite that wasn’t covered by CCTV, the only place where they could truly be alone. Everything about the space was masculine and decadent, including the man himself. With his hair disheveled and his chest on display, it wasn’t hard at all to see him as a primal male.

One she’d dearly enjoy taming.

“I don’t think you realized it at the time.”

She was willing to admit her faults. “I didn’t. I had my nose in a book most of the time back then and I had little experience with men. No, I had no idea you were interested in me beyond copying my notes from class when you slept in.”

“It would surprise you to know that I often thought about sleeping in with you.” His voice had gone low and gentle. “I was crazy about you back then, Day. I find myself in the same position today, but I don’t want to scare you. I know you think we should take this slow and I will honor your wishes, but I want this marriage to work. You see me as a playboy, but I don’t want to be some forty-plus player who trades on his money to keep young girls around him. I think it might be time for me to find out if I can be the king my father would have wanted me to be.”

It was all she needed to hear. If he wanted to try, she was ready. Despite his reputation, she’d fallen right back into a peaceful friendship with him. He’d been the old Kash, supporting her when she needed it. He’d asked her questions about her work with the education department and then gave her ideas on how to handle the parliament. He hadn’t told her what she should do. He’d suggested, debated.

“I think you’ll find me less averse to giving this marriage a real try than you think. I was planning on talking to you about using the Palm Ceremony to begin to explore what we could be as a couple.”

He frowned. “I’m not sure what that means. You want to talk? Or have counseling? Because that sounds terrible.”

“I was talking about sex, Kashmir. I thought we could use this time to see if we’re sexually compatible.”

He popped up out of his chair like an eager puppy. “Yes. I think that is a brilliant idea. We should start now. Don’t worry. I intend to be gentle with you.”

She didn’t move at all. “Like you are with your lovely flowers?”

“Women deserve a man’s care,” he said quietly. “Day, I can’t erase my past.”

“I don’t want you to.” He misunderstood her problems with his statement. “But I do need you to understand that I’m not one of those flowers. I’m not here to sit at your side and bat my eyelashes in the hopes that you’ll buy something for me. I don’t work like that. I don’t care about your money.”

“That is easy for you to say. You’re about to have access to all of it, aren’t you?”

He had a point. “Even if I wasn’t, that wouldn’t be why I would want you, Kash. Sit down. We have some things to talk about before we get started. Come here close to me.”

He moved to the chaise she was sitting on, lowering himself down with a sullen frown. “I knew there would be talking.”

She was fairly certain his lovely flowers did very little talking, but he would get used to it. “Why did you want me back then?”

“I liked you. I liked talking to you. I liked being around you. I rather liked who I was when I was around you.” His expression softened. “I don’t think you knew how alluring you were to someone like me. You didn’t understand how beautiful you were, so you didn’t use it against me. Most women do.”

“Well, that happens when you surround yourself with women who are mostly valued for their looks. I don’t blame them. They’ve been told their beauty is the only thing worthy about them. If you want to meet women who don’t feel that way, you should probably expand out of models and actresses.”

“Well, you would be surprised how many gorgeous, sexy physicists turn me down because I’m not smart enough for them.”

Being the Vice President of the Sin City Outlaws Motorcycle Club comes with its perks.

Respect, power, and easy women whenever I want. I have control in everything I do.

Because of that, I wasn’t expecting my president to put me on babysitting duty, and on a female cop of all fucking people. I kill law enforcement, not protect them.

Alessandra pretends to be the good-guy hiding behind that shiny badge. But I see the darkness dancing in her eyes, and it draws me to her in the worst way. I want to devour that act of innocence, pull her over the line of justice, and into my bed.

I just wasn’t expecting the handful of secrets I got behind that badge of honor I ripped from her chest.  Because now, we’re retaliating against a common enemy together.

Retaliate is the third book in the Sin City Outlaws. Some have said this can be read as a standalone but there are a lot of references to Zeek and Jillian from the previous two books that might leave some a bit confused if you have not read them. Otherwise, this book is completely about Felix and Alessandra.

Felix is the VP of the Sin City Outlaws and is pretty much running things while Zeek is figuring out how to balance a family life and the club life. Felix still has a hard time swallowing that his Prez is sleeping with the enemy – a cop – but will always stand behind Zeek no matter what. Felix was raised in the MC and knows nothing else – so his thirst for violence and hatred towards cops runs deep.

Alessandra was Jillian’s partner til things went south and now she is partnered with a rookie – which no one ever wants, especially Alessandra. Alessandra has always walked a fine line when it comes to seeking justice – she doesn’t always follow the law. She can’t explain it, but she’s never be bothered by the ugly side of her job; she gets a high when it comes to her having power over people.

MN wrote a very unique story. I love that both Felix and Alessandra both have a dark upbringings and it’s their darkness that calls to the other, whether they see it or not. This story is about the fine line between love and hate and how easily it can be blended together at some point. MN gives a good balance of the hot romance with the action and suspense in this book. I really enjoyed this story and that it wasn’t just the typical, normal MC story.

I am intrigued to see how MN plays out this next book. Raven and Machette’s story may be the ugliest of them all so far……

Excerpt

“So, you came here to what, let loose?” I ask suggestively, lust hanging from the tip of my tongue.

She looks up through hooded eyes, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her shirt.

Taking a small step, I invade her space. Using my finger, I tuck it firmly under her chin making her look me in the eyes. God, she’s so fucking soft to touch, my hands itch to take advantage of her body and soul. That’s what I do, I devour innocent women, and scar their souls to the point they’re damaged goods.

“Were you going to fuck one of my men tonight, Alessandra?” I ask hastily.

Her throat bobs as she swallows, fire igniting her eyes as she pulls away. She’s a pistol and not the kind you love and shine every day with care. More like the kind you’re scared to use because it may backfire on you at any minute.

“So what if I was? Why do you care?” She raises a challenging brow, her voice sharp. A burning sensation combusts in my chest thinking about her riding one of my guy’s dicks.

“I forbid you to open your legs to any of my brothers, do you understand?” My rash decision comes from an unknown place. An insatiable hunger beading at the tip of my dick.

Her jaw drops, and her hands curl into fists.

“Who do you think you are to dictate who I screw?” she scowls.

My temples pound with annoyance and anger, done with this back and forth.

Leaning down my lips a hair’s length away from her face, I intimidate her to the point she looks away and purses her lips.

“Maybe you didn’t get the memo, Blue Bird, but now that Zeek is playing daddy… I run this fucking city. Therefore, I say who you fuck, and don’t fuck.”

Her chocolate eyes snap to mine, and I know I have her full attention. Which I want, I want her to look at me, to really see me. All of me.

The Perfect Illusion by Winter Renshaw…Release Day Blitz

Amazon

It’s only pretend…

And it’s only three months.

I’m in the midst of scrawling “I QUIT!” onto his fancy cardstock letterhead when my boss corners me. He needs a favor, he says. And then he asks how well I can act …

Hudson Rutherford needs a fiancée.

With his old-moneyed parents forcing him to marry some bratty hotel heiress and his hedonistic, playboy lifestyle at stake, the only way to get them to back off is to make them think he’s truly, madly, deeply in love … with me—his third personal assistant this year.

But I can hardly stand working for him as it is.

Hudson is crazy hot and well-aware. He’s arrogant, spoiled, and silver-spooned. He checks me out when he thinks I’m not looking, and his life is a revolving door of beautiful women. Plus, he can’t even pronounce my name correctly—how’s he going to convince his family he’s in love with me?!

I’m seconds from giving him a resounding “no” when he flashes his signature dimpled smirk and gives me a number that happens to contain a whole mess of zeroes …

On second thought, I think I can swallow my pride.

But, oh baby, there’s one thing I haven’t told him, one teensy-tiny thing that could make this just a hair complicated …

Here’s hoping this entire thing doesn’t explode in our faces.

“What? What are you thinking?” I ask.
Her brows lift. “That this entire thing sounds insane. And that you’re insane.”
“Maybe it is. And maybe I am. But I know it could work.”
She turns to me, her eyes holding mine. “Why me, though? I can’t stand you and you’re well aware.”
“That’s exactly why it has to be you.”
“You can’t tell me that out of the assortment of women I’ve seen waltzing in and out of your life the last two months, not one of them would be jumping at the chance to help you with this.”
“You’re right. They would be. But then they’d want something more, and quite frankly, I have nothing more to give than my last name and a comfortable lifestyle,” I say, checking my wristwatch. “You, Mari … you wouldn’t want more from me, and that’s exactly why you’re the only one I trust.”
“I don’t know how I could convince anyone I’m in love with someone who gets under my skin the way you do, Hudson.”
“You said you could act.” I lift a brow.
“I … yeah … I guess? But can you?”
Stepping toward her, I take her by the wrist and guide her off the bar stool, pulling her body against mine, meeting her curious gaze with my own sultry version. Cupping her soft cheek in my right hand and letting my fingers graze the nape of her neck, I lift her mouth, holding mine inches from hers.
She breathes me in, her stare unblinking. My left hand circles her waist, feeling it cave with my touch.
“I’ve never told you this before … but the day I met you, I knew there was something special about you. And something tells me you’re about to become the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” I say, my words slow and gentle as our eyes lock. “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, until we’re old and gray. We might drive each other crazy, our path may be a bit bumpy at times, but we’re going to love every minute of it. Marry me, Maribel Collins. Be my wife. I don’t want anyone but you.”
Stillness lingers between us, and then she releases a shuddering breath before blinking. Peeling herself from me, she tucks her thick blonde hair behind her ears before resting her hands on her hips.
“That was …” Mari leaves her thought unfinished as she moves a few paces back. “That was … cheesy. But passable.” Her lips pull into a bitten grin as she recovers her composure. “You’re good at that.” Glancing up at me, her expression dissolves. “Not that I’m surprised. You’re a professional manipulator.”
Rolling my eyes, I exhale. “Do you want the money or not?”
Her hand rests on her stomach briefly, and then she continues pacing. She’s going to wear a beaten path into the wood floor by the time she’s finished.
“Five million dollars.” I fold my arms. “Final offer.”
Mari stops in her tracks, her gaze flicking to mine. “I don’t want to do this. I think it’s a bad idea. But you’re making it impossible for me to say no.”
My mouth curls at the sides. “I knew you’d see it my way.”
