Christian slipped on his thin cotton shirt, and I kept waiting for that towel to drop from all his twisty movements, but it clung to him like a chastity belt to a virgin.
Only there was nothing virginal in the way he looked at me. His eyes burned with secrets, and when he licked his lips, I felt the invitation just as surely as I saw it.
He tossed me my jacket, and I stood up to put it on. Christian did the same, his long black jacket swirling around him as he slipped his arms into the sleeves, until finally it covered everything but his legs below the thigh.
Then the towel dropped.
Christian swaggered back to the bathroom. Did he just chuckle?
Perturbed, I looked away and widened my eyes when I realized my bra was draped over the TV. I stuffed it into my coat pocket and then switched off the television.
As I neared the bathroom entrance, I peeked in and saw him leaning over the tub, his foot propped on the edge while he tied his laces.
“You look like something the cat dragged in,” he said, peering over his shoulder.
“If you were a gentleman, I might have gotten to use the shower first.”
He stood up and gripped the doorjamb over his head. “Perhaps next time we should share—that way nobody gets left out.”
I glared.
Christian winked. “Just trying to think about the environment and water conservation.”
“Exactly what did you say to that woman at the bar that made her a willing victim?”
He grinned wolfishly. “I’m afraid you’ll have to come closer to find out.”
“No, thanks. I’m just curious what kind of words of seduction you use to catch your prey. Probably telling them they taste like the Dead Sea or something romantic like that.”
Christian gave me a bemused look. “Why would you say something like that?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know. It was the first thing that popped into my mind. Am I getting warm, Romeo?”
“Ice cold. Like your nipples. Perhaps you should get decent and put on a bra.”
“If a bra makes you decent, then you need one more than I do.”

Two weeks on the hunt, and now Theo Reese was dressed like a wanker from one of those popular spy movies. He tugged on the black bow tie and fully committed himself to killing the woman who’d forced him to wear a tuxedo. After chasing her through New York, London, Edinburgh, and now back to New York, he was more than ready to grip her slim neck in both his hands.

My Review:

Tangled is A Dark Protectors–Reece Family Novella from author Rebecca Zanetti as well as novella number 7 in the 2017 1,001 Dark Nights lineup and being a huge fan of Ms. Zanetti’s work I was so excited for this story! 

Man oh man, where to start with what I loved about this novella!  First off, the gift Ms. Zanetti has of weaving a fabulous tale just knocks my socks off every time I read her. She is one of my fave paranormal authors by far.  The two main characters have been circling each other for ages – literally.  Theo is one helluva damn sexy alpha male vampire on a mission.  Ginny is a deviously fun witch on her own mission.  When fate put these two together, sparks fly and danger mounts.  From start to finish this novella is filled with fun, flirty banter, delicious sexual tension, and two main characters I couldn’t get enough of!  I loved every minute of their story and have no doubt you will, too.

Whether you’re just picking up a Rebecca Zanetti book, or are a long-time fan, Tricked will have you glued to each page from the second you pick it up!

Good Lies is Charlotte West’s debut and while I can’t say she knocked it out of the park, she’s definitely an author that I will read again. It was a good read, but not one that will stick with me forever. And I say that because I finished this book only 2 days ago and I don’t remember exactly how the book ends and remember snippets of the book, so while I know I enjoyed the book while reading it, it obviously didn’t leave any lasting impressions on me.

I love a good rock’n’roll romance read. This one is definitely more light on the drama and the angst and that works for this book. Charlotte wrote some interesting characters and definitely has a great line up for future books. I enjoyed how everything played out and nothing felt out character for anyone. And Charlotte can write some sexy scenes too!

As a debut author, I think Charlotte will do very well as her writing develops. She has a really good foundation to work from and will get a good fan base in the “soft” rock’n’roll romance.

Like I said previously, I enjoyed the book, but when it’s only been two days since I finished it and I can’t remember the ending, that just says to me that the book was good, but not a 5 star read for me. Others will feel differently and that is ok. I just need more meat in my books for them to have a lasting impression. Will I read another of Charlotte’s books, most definitely.

Let me say that a 3 star review is not bad at all. It says that I liked what I read and will read other books from this author. It was a refreshing read and very quick to read. It’s a good start for someone who wants a little bit of angst and some good steamy scenes.

I am looking forward to the next two books as I do know who they are about and want to read their stories.

Putting my head down, I decided to follow Ash. After all, Warren had said, “Get out,” to everybody. I was only respecting his wishes. That was nice of me. Considerate. I’d even collect my bags at a later time. Scratch that. I’d just buy all-new stuff. I’d use Billy’s card. He’d like that. Daisy could go shopping with me.

My arm grazed Warren’s. Heat pricked along my side at the contact. He stayed as still as a statue, his body taut and tense. He was going to let me pass. Thank you very much. I was almost home free. Until his hand shot out and wrapped around my upper arm, his grip tight enough to halt me but not tight enough to hurt me. I could feel the warmth from his palm through my damp sweatshirt, burning me, branding me.

“Not you,” he said, his voice hardening.

I shuffled back into the bunks, forcing him to let go. His stare went to my heaving chest. It felt as if the temperature had skyrocketed a thousand degrees.

Warren advanced. His nostrils flared and his septum piercing, a thin silver band, flashed in the low light.

I stepped back until I was pressed against a sliver of wall. Dammit, why’d they have to make these spaces so tight? Warren kept coming until he was flush against my front. I fisted his shirt. To push him away or bring him closer, I didn’t know. Then his fingers were in my belt loops, pressing me into him. I could feel his desire for me, his hardness against my stomach.

“Warren…” I started.

He closed his eyes. “Fuck, I’ve dreamt about you saying my name. Say it again,” he demanded. Always so bossy.

“Warren,” I said again, this time more firmly.

He didn’t understand my tone or he chose to ignore it. Probably the latter. His head lowered and then his lips crashed against mine. He cupped the nape of my neck and begged entrance into my mouth with his tongue.

Something inside of me broke free. A need so fierce it bulldozed all my common sense, all my reasons against this, everything I’d kept tightly reined in for the last few years. I yielded to him. His mouth tasted like whiskey and chocolate, two of my favorite things. Warren groaned and it was like a tiny earthquake inside of me, the vibration snaking down to my belly and igniting desire between my legs. As if he sensed it, his kiss became hotter, wetter, more demanding.

Somehow, my hands found their way under his thin t-shirt, caressing his abs. Cool air hit my stomach and then the tops of my breasts. Warren was stripping me. He broke the kiss for one second to whip my sweatshirt and t-shirt over my head. Then he was back on me, his tongue in my mouth, his body shifting down and up, forcing my legs to wrap around his waist to keep balance.

He rubbed against my core. I made a guttural sound. His lips withdrew and then plastered to my neck. Oh, God, he still knew my sweet spot, right behind my ear he licked and whispered, “I knew you’d come back to me. I knew it.”

What? A cold sensation crept along my spine. Warren didn’t notice. He sucked the thin skin on my collarbone. I almost forgot what he’d just said but then he opened his big fat mouth again. “Are you sorry for what you did? Leaving me in Rome?” He kissed a wet trail down to the top of my breast. “You want me back, don’t you? Jesus, I should make you beg but I don’t think I’m going to last.”

Groupie by Susan Daugherty was such a sweet romance story to read. Yes, I could see some parts coming but in a way don’t you read a book hoping it will play out like you want? What was great about Groupie was that I could tell Susan Daugherty really enjoyed writing Lexie and Jackson. That is always a wonderful thing because there is an abundance of emotion in the story.

After an accident at Jackson’s concert leaves him injured and in need of a physical therapist, Lexie finds herself thrown into his world. Not only is she not a fan of Jackson’s but also not a fan of his groupies. However, Lexie is determined not to let Jackson get to her even through he is a hot country singer. Travelling with him on his tour so she can continue his PT, Lexie starts to find herself falling for him.

Jackson is hard to figure out at first. Does he like Lexie or is he toying with her like all his groupies? It is actually fun to read how he reacts to Lexie because she does not care for his music and is not a fan of him at all. Jackson, I liked, hated, liked, then loved. I really was on the roller coaster of feelings with Lexie.

This is an easy read and slow paced but a great first book with a cliffhanger that got me! I cannot wait to read the next book!

J.L. has another smashing hit to add to her list. Fraud is definitely a swoon-worthy read and will leave you smiling for days.

I love the Prologue in this book – it starts the book off on the right vibe and has you riding this euphoric wave throughout the whole book. There were times that my smile got turned upside down because Killian is a slight douche, but overall, I was nothing but a smiling fool.

Kate is a loan processor at the local community college that she herself attended at one time. She has pretty much kept to herself most of her life since her parents passed away. Jane is the only person who never allowed Kate to push away. And Jane is also the only one he knows her darkest secret – she’s the woman behind the hot and sexy newest book on the market.

Killian is a journalist, a very popular one at that. So popular that his most recent article gets him fired and pretty much blacklisted. He’s determined to get himself back in the game, at any cost.

I love Kate and Killian’s story. It took me a little bit to warm up to Killian, but he slowly won me over. Kate, I love that girl. She comes across so sweet and innocent and she is, to a degree. But I love that she has no problems coming out of her shell and learning new things – becoming the person she wants to be.

The secondary characters definitely help round out this book. Jane, Liam and Amy all play great parts in this story and add their flair to it. I really hope we have not seen the last of Jane or Amy because I know the next book is about Liam (and I can’t wait to read that one!!).

I really enjoyed this book. The characters have their own flaws and both grow not only together but as individuals. I enjoyed the whole story line and how everything played out. A perfect summer read. Now bring on Liam’s book!!

Dream Author Panel

How amazing would it be to be able to create your own panel of authors???  Whether they are ones from a particular genre, those who write more difficult topics or just those who’s brains you loved to pick at a little (or a lot in our case).

Eventbrite inspired us with their new project they are working on – planning your dream author panel!!!  Jillian and I both have attended author panel discussions at various author signings and conventions.  We both have personally been asked to sit on panels too for various topics.  While we both have enjoyed both being on panels and attending author discussions, we jumped at the chance to showcase some authors that we would love to see on panels in certain genres.

We chose to do genres instead of particular topics only because we know that some authors do write difficult topics in some genres.  As to what we would ask these authors, that really all depends on the discussion that pops up, but these are some general questions we would ask of the authors below:

1.  Are there any character(s) that were more difficult to write for you?  And are there are any characters that you enjoyed writing more than others?

2.  When do you realize you wanted to become a writer?  And why this particular genre?

3.  Who has inspired you throughout your writing career or even before?

4.  Is there any genre you would stay away from for any particular reason?

5.  If you could pick, who would you want to co-author a book about and what would it be about?

6.  Do you prefer to write standalones or series?

7.  Who is your unicorn author?  Have you met them?  What would you say to them?

8.  Do you keep a notebook on you all the time in case of those spur of the moment epiphanies?

9.  Do you have any “quirks” when it comes to writing (i.e. –  need specific music playing, a certain area of the house, etc).

10.  What book of yours is your favorite?

Those are just a few questions that we would ask these authors.  But again, depending on where the discussion goes, other questions could come up.  Now the list of authors below in each genre, is in no particular order and we only wanted to list 3-4 in each category.  Trust me, there are plenty more we would add to each one. 

And I will clarify that certain genres will cover more than one genre as a whole (Dark Romance will cover mafia/MC and erotic and edgy romance, Fantasy/Sci-Fi will also include paranormal and dystopian, etc.).  And some authors fall into more than one genre.

There are so many genres today, it’s really hard to narrow it down and so many authors fall into multiple categories and that makes it even more difficult.  But these are just a few authors in a few genres that we would love to have a discussion with and see them on a panel and talk to us about whatever was on their minds.
