Wanderlove - Teaser 3 AN

Excerpt

Slouched in the back booth of one of those froufrou café places a little later, I pulled out a book and bit into my egg and turkey bacon on an English muffin.

Yes, you heard me right. 1. Egg. 2. Turkey bacon. 3. English muffin.

It was like one of those riddles on the SAT—which, by the way, I wished I hadn’t taken on a whim in high school, because it made this whole NYC bullshit that much easier.

Which two of the above three things does not belong?

If you answered numbers two and three, you win. Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Who the fuck ate turkey bacon? Not a soul where I came from. And an English muffin was a poor excuse for a biscuit.

Just as I sank my teeth into the last bite of nourishment—because turkey bacon couldn’t possibly be classified as delicious—someone took the table next to me.

Not one for coffee-shop talk, I took a swig of my OJ and lowered my face deeper into my book.

Cannery Row? We read that in high school,” a female voice said, interrupting my quiet time.

“Hmm.” I nodded without looking up, desperately trying to maintain invisible boundaries.

The smell of fresh coffee filled my nostrils, making me think of my mom. She loved her morning coffee. Every day, she made a big pot and drink her first mug on the wraparound porch, sometimes wrapped in a flannel blanket.

“You okay?” Another interruption.

Looking up, I found the black-haired beauty who’d run into me earlier. “Yeah, why?” Slapping my worn book on the table, I suddenly had beef with the pixie extrovert.

“You were reading, and all of a sudden looked really sad. Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. It’s just . . .”

I swallowed, wondering how the hell I looked sad, and then I remembered I was thinking of my mom. So I miss her. I’m no less of a man. It doesn’t make me a mama’s boy.

“I’m cool,” I said, rather than explaining the truth.

“We just saw each other.” She paused, obviously wanting to chat more, and I nodded.

“You go to school here?” I finally asked.

“No. It’s nice, though. I was just looking for someone in that building. Didn’t find her.” She whispered the last part to herself. Only listless for a second, she brightened back up. “Are you a grad student?”

“Ha,” I barked. “What? I look too old to play the part of undergrad?”

I was on the bench seat of my booth, my feet kicked out in front of me; she sat opposite me, on the chair side of her table. I wondered if her feet even touched the floor. Compared to my six-foot-two-inch frame, she’d barely hit my chest when we collided earlier.

“Um . . .” She looked away, pink rising in her cheeks.

Leaning forward, I ran my palm over my scruff, trying to remember when I last shaved. “Returning adult student is what I think they call it. School wasn’t really in my cards before, and now it is. So here I am.”

Sitting quietly, she didn’t respond, just raised her brows as if waiting for more of an explanation.

I didn’t give her anything more. My story wasn’t all that interesting, anyway.

Wanderlove is a sweet, young love romance story.

Emerson takes off for New York to find her birth mother. It’s not that her life with her dad was bad, she just has this drive to find her birth mother. It is with a bit of luck that Emerson stumbles upon clues to where here mom could be in the big city.

Price is used to the small-town he’s been raised in, but when an opportunity to go to the city for college comes up, it’s impossible to ass up. It is when Emerson is tryin to find her mother that these two meet and it’s practically happenstance.

As most of you know by now, insta-love stories are really hard sell for me. I really need to be connected to the characters and their situations to truly “see past” the insta-love and sadly for this one, that was not the case. While I have no huge issue with Emerson or Price, I just never felt any connection to them or their stories. There is some angst and drama, but not enough to really give me the depth I wanted. It’s a good read just not a great one, for me.

The story line is sweet and the characters are enjoyable so many will love this story. However, for me, it was just right down the middle enjoyable. The writing, as always, was impeccable. And I know, if the writing was great, why didn’t I love it? An author can have the best writing style, but fail to deliver characters that everyone will connect with. And that’s the case with this book.

Release Blitz & Review…Tempt The Hookup by Natasha Madison

Tempt Series, Book 3
Release Day:
October 22
Eliahn
Getting pregnant after a booze cruise hookup was not what any parent wanted to hear, so I picked up my entire life and moved to Paris to start over. Six years later, I was ready to go home.
I was a single mom and the only thing I knew about my son’s dad was his name—Luca. I didn’t need to know anything else.
The universe had other ideas because on our second day back home, the man came crashing back into my life.

Luca
Attending a welcome back party for my boss’s daughter wasn’t how I wanted to spend my Sunday. But walking in and seeing my hookup from a cruise six years ago knocks me on my ass.
It was a weekend of fun and now I’m seeing a pair of eyes, identical to mine, staring right at me. The boy standing next to her is my son.
Now we’re living next door to each other and attempting to co-parent something that would be easy to do if the pull that brought us together wasn’t still there making things more complicated.
For six years she haunted my dreams, now she’s haunting my every waking moment.
I let her get away once, now I want to make her mine.
This time, permanently.
Only one thing left to do. I have to tempt the hookup.

Buy Your Copy Here:

Tempt the Hookup is book three in the Tempt series but a complete standalone. Natasha is one of those authors who truly knows how to deliver standalone books within a series. There is no underlying plot throughout each book and you don’t need to know any of the other characters to see the connection between everyone.

Eliahn (Eli) and Luca met six years ago on a booze cruise and only first names were exchanged. They never expected to see the other ever again and truly never expected to create anything out of their quick romance.

Fast forward to the present and their chemistry has brought them back together. There is no denying the chemistry between these two. What was so easy six years ago, is still the same now. Plus add in their son and things blend even better. This is just a sugar, sweet romance that readers will devour.

So why the 3 star rating?? Maybe it was the timing for me – it was too sweet, no angst or drama, and too perfect. Yes, there are many readers out there who love these books. And I have no qualms about them, I just need to be in the right mind to read them. My reads need to be deep and dramatized to really enjoy. There was just too much perfection for me to handle in one book. LOL

Natasha delivers a well-written romance, no doubt about it. But for me, it was just too sugary sweet and perfect. We’ll just chalk it up to bad timing on my part and leave it at that.

But definitely go read it – if you love a sweet romantic story, you will love this one.

About the Author:

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

🔥🔥 NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥

Downfall by Willow Aster is LIVE!!!

I was naïve to think my marriage to Luka Catano might work.

I was infatuated with him from afar…

Until I met him.

He loved the challenge of his next conquest, anyone would do…

Except me.

A wife was never something he wanted.

Torturous was not a strong enough word to describe how I felt when I was in a room with Luka. Besides hating nearly every word that came out of his mouth, I also drowned with lust every time I looked at him.

At times I thought he might feel the same.

But nothing prepared me for what his family would make me become.

“You’ve outdone yourself,” he says. “Which Eden do I have tonight? Will you bite or will you purr?”

“I could ask you the same thing.”

He holds his hands out. “What do you think? Am I suitable to be by your side?”

“You clean up okay.”

He smirks and steps closer to me, pulling me flush against him. “Keep playing the cool act. I know it shouldn’t, but it gets me so hard.” He presses into me to prove his point.

“Have you been drinking already?” I frown.

“This is me stone-cold sober.”

“So there’s nothing to excuse your behavior.”

His hands go lower and when he still feels my skin, he frowns. His hands go lower still until they find material, which happens to be hugging my backside. He thrusts into me again and leans his forehead against mine.

“You don’t want to excuse my behavior. You like me best this way. Hot and salivating over you. Admit it.”

I shake my head. “You need to take a step back.”

He exhales a shuddering breath and drops his hands, stepping back. “We’re going to be late. Let’s go.”

I shiver from the loss of his hands and the chill in his voice. I can’t win with him.

So this is a tough one to rate for me – on one hand I love the idea of this story and the series, but these particular characters did not win me over.

Downfall is the first book in Willow Aster’s next series, Kingdoms of Sin. Each book is to be a complete standalones with inter-connecting characters. This book is definitely a standalone as there is no cliffhanger but it also introduces many secondary characters and gives you a glimpse of how everyone is connected.

This series is set where there are Kingdoms ran by monarchies set in today’s society but completely different rules than normal. I like that Willow keeps the baseline modern but gives the story it’s own uniqueness to keep things interesting.

Downfall is Luka and Eden’s story and it’s quite a wild one. There is ALOT of angst in this story and I mean ALOT. All her life, Eden has been groomed and prepped for her marriage to Luka. She has no qualms about the pre-arranged marriage. But she does have issues with her future husband once they finally meet.

Luka is dick – no other to way to put it. I don’t like him, I never warm up to him and wish that Eden was marrying someone else. There, I said it. I know I will be in minority on this one, but I don’t like him. I do get what he acts the way he does, what he makes certain decisions but he just never wins me over.

Eden, I wish she had more of backbone than she did. I get that had this preconceived idea of what she thought she was getting based on looks and what she read. But once she met him and saw who he was and how he acted towards her, that should have been enough to take that crush feeling and turn it into pure outrage and hatred for him. She does later on stand up for herself, but she is so swayed by him and her attraction to him is so strong, that her anger towards him diminishes, making her come across as a pushover. I understand where she is coming from, I just don’t agree with her decisions.

While I didn’t care for the characters a whole lot, I did enjoy the idea of this series. I am intrigued by the other characters that were introduced and want to see who’s book is next. I find the inner workings of these kingdoms interesting and hope that I will like future books more than this one.

As I said at first, each book is a standalone. However, I would highly recommend reading this book first just to have that nice base to start. Willow does readers a family tree of who’s who at the start of the book, but honestly, that made no sense to me and it only helped me once I read the book was able to go back and go “oh yes.”

Overall, a nice start to a new series.

Faker by Sarah Smith…ARC review

Faker is out TODAY!

Synopsis:

Debut author Sarah Smith nails this fun and sexy multicultural romance where two office foes hammer out their differences to build a love that will last…

Emmie Echavarre is a professional faker. She has to be to survive as one of the few female employees at Nuts & Bolts, a power tool company staffed predominantly by gruff, burly men. From nine to five, Monday through Friday, she’s tough as nails–the complete opposite of her easy-going real self.

One thing she doesn’t have to fake? Her disdain for coworker Tate Rasmussen. Tate has been hostile to her since the day they met. Emmie’s friendly greetings and repeated attempts to get to know him failed to garner anything more than scowls and terse one-word answers. Too bad she can’t stop staring at his Thor-like biceps…

When Emmie and Tate are forced to work together on a charity construction project, things get…heated. Emmie’s beginning to see that beneath Tate’s chiseled exterior lies a soft heart, but it will take more than a few kind words to erase the past and convince her that what they have is real.

My review in Short:

The cover of Sarah Smith’s debut novel, FAKER, had me saying “yes, please” even before I read the synopsis.  I love a good enemies-to-lovers trope and I knew this would hit the nail right on the head…and did it ever.

From the delightful and snarky banter between our hero and heroine, to sexy scenes that melting the screen of my kindle, it was an overall fun read.   If you’re looking for a spitfire gal and a gruff-exterior-with-a-tender-heart hero, this is a book for you.

I’m already looking forward to see what this freshman author has in store for us next!

Blurb:

Let me ask you a question:

If someone is vying for your spot on a team and just so happens to injure you during practice, would you believe it was on purpose?

Word around campus is . . . it was no accident.

That injury has cost me everything; my starting position, my junior year—and the draft. Now, I’m a senior fresh off recovery, struggling to find my groove, until the day I run into a nervous, fidgety, girl with freckles, in the dining hall.

They call Milly Potter The Baseball Whisperer, The Diamond Wizard, and The Epitome of All Knowledge. She believes in baseball. She breathes it. She’s the queen of an infamous dynasty, but no one actually knows who she really is, and she plans to keep it that way.

One mishap in the panini line, one miscommunication in the weight room, and many failed attempts at an apology equal up to one solid truth — Milly Potter never wants to speak to me again — no matter how good my forearms look.

Little do we both know, she’s about to become more than just my fairy ballmother.

Excerpt:

**CARSON**

Everyone knows me as the easygoing, fun-loving guy without a care in the world. You know who I’m talking about, right?

The guy who cheers when a couple kisses, who says stupid shit like YIPPEE when he’s excited, the guy who has no shame in shimmying his bare, bright white ass to his friends just to make them laugh.

I’m also the guy who is magically smart, can lead an entire bar to harmoniously sing any Taylor Swift song, lucks out in everything he does, and has impeccable taste in clothing—despite wearing a baseball hoodie every Monday. A dude must make himself feel better when the Monday blues hit and a hoodie does just that.

But have you guessed it? Do you see where this is going?

I’m not that guy anymore.

Nope.

Easygoing and fun-loving? Not anymore.

I spit venom at whoever dares to be in my presence. You know the old man who throws endless piles of shoes at the street youths as they walk by? That’s me, minus the incontinence problem and mothball smell.
My days of singing Taylor Swift with a crowd are over.

Instead—if I even make it to a bar—I bury myself in a corner and sneer. Oh boy, do I fucking sneer. I sneer at anything and anyone that even
attempts to look at my face.

That impeccable fashion sense I was boasting about? Gone. I think I’ve been wearing the same pair of athletic shorts for a month—not really—but maybe it’s a little true.
And the guy who lucks out in everything he does? Ha, my luck was cut short at the beginning of the season thanks to the square ass, dirty dick named Kirk Babcock, also known as Kirk BADcock by my team.

What did this Badcock do, you ask?

If you’re thinking he poked me with said bad cock, you need to get your mind out of the gutter.

What he did was even worse than winging his willy around on the baseball field.

So bad that you might need to brace yourself . . .

**FLAILS ARMS**

He committed a sin against all baseball etiquette.

The cardinal sin.

The biggest sin of all sins.

Are you sitting? I don’t want you to faint from the blasphemy I’m about to share.
Deeps breaths, everyone . . .

He . . . damn it, he slid late . . . at practice.

Gasp, I know.

I told you it was bad . . . my balls are shriveling up into my taint just thinking about it.
The dumbass freshman, who had too much juice in his junk, decided to book it to second during a practice game while Holt and I were fleshing out a double play. The dingleberry slid into second base two seconds too late.

Why is this a problem?

For those of you who might not be in the know—don’t worry, I won’t hold it against you—back in 2016, the gods of baseball developed a new rule; all players sliding into second must hit the ground first before touching the bag to avoid injuring the opposing players.

Layman’s terms: don’t be a dickhead and hurt people.

Apparently, Badcock didn’t get that memo, because the little turd nugget charged second base like an out-of-control steam train . . . just as I slid my foot across the base for the out. His dirty slide took my leg out, twisting me in the process, and tossed me to the ground.

As I fell, I heard a resounding snap that would make any grown-ass man throw up into his lap, followed by an immense amount of pain shooting up the back of my leg.
The motherfucker—stenchy bad cock—ruptured my Achilles tendon.

Like Achilles himself, I buckled to the ground and wallowed in pain while holding my leg, as if I let go, it would detach from my body and float right on up to heaven where it belongs for the many good years it gave me.

Badcock proceeded to fling his helmet off his head, get in my face, and apologize profusely, making up some excuse about tripping over his own damn feet. Yeah, okay, fart breath.

I’d like to see the tape for a full review, because I’m questioning the shit out of that statement. Tripped, my left nut.

If I was a freshman and got hurt, I wouldn’t want to rip the skin off Badcock’s scrotum, maybe just give him a swift lodge of my foot up his ass. But ripping scrotum skin, nah.
But guess what? I’m not a goddamn freshman.

I’m a fucking junior, and if you know anything about baseball, you know being a junior in college is one of the most important times in a guy’s life.

Because that’s the year you’re eligible to be drafted.

DRAFTED.

Brentwood University is known as a breeding ground for exceptional baseball players; it’s where the scouts come to find their next top prospects. If you want to play professional baseball, you either choose to go into the draft right after high school or be recruited by Brentwood. I chose an education so I had a possible career to fall back on in case something happened to me . . . like rupturing my Achilles tendon.

Can you guess where this is going?

Strike up the violins, because a sob story is coming your way.

I was ushered off the field and straight to the state-of-the-art training room where, after an excruciating physical exam, I had an ultrasound. It was then confirmed I’d be out of commission for the season. I underwent surgery, had the stupid thing stitched back together—let’s take a moment to be physically ill over the thought of that—and then put through an extensive rehab, missing my chance to be drafted.

You read that right, I was not drafted. My best friends were . . . I was not.

Because no one wants an injured player, even if he has tons of promise.

Even if he was the best second baseman in the country.

Even if he was supposed to be drafted in the first round.

Not one single team wanted to take the gamble to see if I could make a full recovery.
Isn’t that just peachy?

So needless to say, Kirk BADcock stays as far away from me as possible. As for me, I’d like to say I’m not a bitter man with a chip on his shoulder, but that would be a massive lie.

I have the biggest damn chip on my shoulder, so big that I named him Aloysius and I high-five him every morning, agreeing that we’re going to try to make at least one person’s life miserable that day.

My suggestion, if you see me around campus? Steer clear, run away, duck and hide, because I’m a polluted motherfucker with an equally rotten Aloysius on my shoulder ready to raise hell in your life.

Carson Stone is out for vengeance thanks to one moronic badcock.

TheDugout_teaser-5-2

The Dugout is the next book in her sports romance following The Locker Room. They are complete standalones and can easily be read in any order.

I wanted to love this book so much more than I did. I love Meghan, her writing style and her characters. She will always be an auto-read for me. However, this book is sadly, not one of my favorites of hers.

The Dugout is definitely full of humor with the bromance and interactions of the characters along with some angst thrown in. Something that I have to throw out there is that Meghan’s characters are very unique with their characteristics and antics.

We met Carson in The Locker Room and he is definitely more than just the funny best friend of Knox. He’s sweet and charming but when an “accident” thwarts his dreams and forces him to adapt. He knows that he needs to figure out how to get back on diamond and his best bet is Milly.

Milly’s life is baseball. She has three older brothers who all played baseball so she ended up finding herself extremely absorbed in the sport and knows everything and then some about the sport. She lives to help ball players become better and improve their game.

I loved the interactions of these characters. While they were definitely realistic in certain aspects, they are also entertaining with their funny personalities which makes them well-rounded characters.

So if I loved so much about this book, why not 5 stars?? For one, and this may get me a few side-eyes, but I had some issues with Carson. He just seemed to far-fetched at times with his mannerisms and personality. But what we really hurt this book for me was the twist at 75%-80% mark. It was way too similar to The Locker Room in too many ways and came across as a “cookie cutter” story and that just let me down, especially with Meghan’s books. It’s why made me drop the book a full star in rating.

Overall, yes this is a really funny read and most will enjoy the story. I enjoyed the majority of this story and the parts that did not work for me are more than likely a me thing. I would still definitely recommend this to anyone to read.

Truly Yours is the conclusion to Sophie and Mason’s story. While I wanted to love this so much (I enjoyed Truly Mine), this one didn’t have me as vested in the story.

There is alot that is going on this story. I won’t go into details but kidnapping and torture is involve and along with overcoming PTSD. I have no issues with those things as I was hoping this would make the story more interesting for me. And it did, but it was how everything played out that made it just ok for me.

I know that Kennedy Fox likes to keep their plots somewhat life-like (sometimes far-fetched) so it helps readers understand the characters more. But with this plot, it was more the characters reactions that just bothered me.

This book made me not a fan of Sophie. I get that she’s been through alot but her reactions to certain people just pissed me off. And the fact that Mason not one calls he out on her b.s., just no. Yes, he’s more than understanding of what Sophie went through but damn, he’s not a punching bag.

So yea, this one was right down the middle for me which sucks because I really wanted to love it. Will it stop me from reading more, no. This one just wasn’t my favorite.

Read Truly Mine Here to Catch Up!

The night we met in the dimly lit bar, she looked like a
brunette bombshell, and I wanted to learn her deepest secrets. With sun-kissed
skin and soulful bedroom eyes, she was pure temptation, and I was mesmerized.
As one drink led to two, I craved more of her playful banter and
taunting lips. Resisting her wasn’t an option, and we quickly became a
desperate mess of tangled limbs and hot kisses. She tasted like the sweetest
sin, but I was no saint.

Already Gone, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby and USA Today bestselling author K.L. Grayson

Falling in love is easy…

New Hope, South Carolina is my home. It’s where I grew up, got into trouble, and fell in love for the first time. Scarlett Kincaid was more than the girl next door, she was my best friend, until she decided that small town life wasn’t for her. One minute she was here, and the next she was gone.

The girl I used to fish with down at the creek is now the biggest name in country music. She headlines world tours, has won four Grammys, and I haven’t seen her since. Until today when she sped through town in her fancy car. One look at her big brown eyes was all it took to stir up a whole slew of emotions. Emotions I’d long ago buried and sure as hell don’t have time for.

It’s the aftermath that’s hard…

There are two things in my life that matter. My music, and my dad. Twelve years ago, I packed a bag and chased my dream. Leaving New Hope and escaping the gossip mill was the easiest decision I ever made. I never planned to return, but my father needs me, and he always comes first. So, I did what I had to do. I cut my tour short and came home, despite having a sister who hates me, and a community that doesn’t trust me.

And then there’s Tucker Andrews.

When he propped an arm on the roof of my car, pulled down his sunglasses and flashed his police badge, I nearly swallowed my tongue. Gone is the lanky boy who used to throw rocks at me and pull my pigtails. Tucker is now a six-foot package of brawny, sexy man wrapped in more muscle than I have hit singles. Did I mention he’s a cop and a single dad?

My goal was to help Dad, and get back to my life. But what am I supposed to do when the life that used to strangle me suddenly fits like a glove, and makes me dream of things I never thought I’d have? What happens when the boy I walked away from years ago becomes one of the most important people in my life? I don’t have room for a man much less love.

Right?

Because it’s impossible to hold onto someone who’s already gone.

Excerpt:

New Hope, South Carolina.

Population 6,129.

I know every soul represented in that number. Not a single one of them drives the shiny red Mercedes that just went speeding by.

Seventy-five in a forty-five.

I flick on my lights and press on the gas, sending my cruiser flying past the city limit sign and the godawful billboard that sits directly behind it; the one declaring New Hope home to country music superstar, Scarlett Kincaid.

It wouldn’t be a big deal if this were actually her home. It’s not. Scarlett may have been born here, but her fancy boots haven’t landed on this soil in over a decade.

All it took was one call from a hotshot music executive to send her packing before the ink was dry on her high school diploma. Scarlett flew from this town fast enough to leave our heads spinning. Before any of us could process what had happened, little Scarlett Kincaid—the same girl who used to build forts with me in my living room while my mama made us mac ‘n’ cheese—had a hit single sitting at number one on the Billboard charts.

She went from homecoming queen and most likely to marry a rich spouse in our senior yearbook, to the queen of country music.

The country loves her. Hell, the whole world loves her.

New Hope…not so much. And it’s high time that fucking sign comes down.

But first, I have to deal with this speed demon in the sexy red car.

I sound the sirens, and the car pulls to the side of the road and waits while I walk to the driver’s side window. It’s still up, the heavy tint preventing me from seeing inside. With a hand on my holster—because you never know what you’re going to walk up on—I knock on the window.

The dark glass lowers.

My first thought: this woman is absolutely gorgeous. Long, dark hair. Pouty lips. And a tiny pink dress. Her eyes are covered by oversized aviators, but I’m sure they’re as pretty as the rest of her.

My second thought: what crazy excuse is she going to come up with to try and get out of this ticket? It never ceases to amaze me the things women are willing to do to keep from getting into trouble. I’ve been offered everything from a blowjob to a pay-off to marriage.

“Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”

“Tucker?” The woman smiles, then pushes her sunglasses to the top of her head. And that’s when I see the brown eyes I’ve spent more than a decade trying to forget. “Tucker Andrews, is that you?”

I step back and square my shoulders. “You can call me Officer Andrews. Do you know why I pulled you over today, ma’am?”

“Tucker.” The woman laughs and shakes her head. “It’s me, Scarlett.”

At the mention of her name, I’m met with an onslaught of flashbacks. Running hand and hand through the neighborhood with her, laughing and playing, only to have her ignore me the second we got to school. The popular crowd versus the nerds who desperately tried to fit in. She the former, me the latter, and the pain it caused every time she acted as though she didn’t know my name. For years, I pretended it didn’t bother me because I knew that when I got home, Scarlett would meet me at the fence, and the awkwardness from the day would dissipate as though it never happened.

But it did. Day after day after day. I was a glutton for punishment. There was nothing in the world I loved more than Scarlett Kincaid, and it didn’t matter how badly she hurt me, I was always willing to forgive her.

Her smile and laugh might’ve gotten to me in middle school and high school, but I refuse to let it affect me now.

“I know who you are.”

Her smile falters.

I am a sucker for small town romance. I love the nuisances that come with small towns and how everyone is very close knit.

Already Gone is a second chance, enemies to lovers romance from two authors but you wouldn’t know that as their writing compliments one another very well.

I really wanted to love this book more than I did. At the beginning, I loved how things started out. I enjoyed the interactions between Tucker and his daughter, Chloe; seeing Scarlett connect to Chloe was very sweet.

I felt that things were a bit rushed between Tucker and Chloe. I wanted more from them. I wanted to see Scarlett grovel a little more for just up and leaving. I get that she flew her dad to concerts but she never really kept in contact with her family so I totally get where her sister is coming from. A small town community means everyone is extremely tight and leaving like that hurts, ALOT.

Overall, while I did enjoy the interactions between the characters and the writing was amazing, I was left wanting more. For me, it was just an ok read.

EXCERPT:

There is no way in hell she’s here.

My family isn’t that cruel. Right?

From my car, I try to gauge the number of bodies in my parents’ house through the windows. Ugh, I can’t see shit.

She can’t possibly be at family dinner. My family loves Harper, but they wouldn’t invite her, not after I called my mom the other day, telling her to put her matchmaking skills to rest. She just chuckled but reassured me she knew what she was doing. Whatever the hell that means.

I was very adamant about leaving Harper alone. The Knightlys can be too much at times, and I’m sure we’re the last thing she needs right when she’s trying to settle back into town.

Resigning myself to the inevitable, I retrieve my keys from the ignition and make my way to the front door. Hand on the doorknob, I take a deep breath and walk into the house I grew up in. The warm walls and carefully hung family pictures greet me first, followed by my family’s raucous laughter emanating from the back of the house.

I remove my shoes and hang my suit jacket on the coat hanger by the front door before cautiously making my way down the long hallway to the connected kitchen and large dining room. Ren, Griffin’s girlfriend, is the first to spot me. She gives me a small smile and a little wave. The rest of the family is scattered around the kitchen as usual, getting in my parents’ way as they try to finish up the dinner prep.

Griffin sees me next. “Ah, you finally decided to join us.” He checks his watch. “I think that was eight minutes in the car. Who had eight minutes?”

Reid raises his hand and hops off the counter, grabbing a bowl from the center of the table and pocketing the wad of cash inside. “I know him too well.” Reid pats me on the back and slips me a one-dollar bill. “Here, this is for you. Thanks for taking eight minutes to prepare yourself to come in the house. Daddy is going to buy a new pair of jeans.” He pats his pockets.

Ignoring everyone and their stupid bet, I pop the fridge door open and grab a water. Reid joins me, sticking his head in the fridge so I’m forced to look at him. “Aren’t you going to ask?”

“Ask what?” I grit out.

“If she’s here. I know that’s why you were hanging out in your car, debating if you should come in or not.”

My skin prickles, and I brace myself for the answer as I shut the fridge door. “Is she here?” I hiss.

Slowly, Reid smiles and nods. “Yup, she’s in the bathroom.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I angrily squeeze my water bottle, nearly popping the top off. “Why? Why is she here?”

Reid shrugs. “I don’t know, maybe because she wants to be here.”

“Who invited her? Was it Mom?” I don’t wait for an answer. Instead, I walk over to the culprit, who’s hovering over the stove, stirring a huge pot of chili.

“Oh, hey, sweetie. Cornbread is in the oven, honey is in the crock, and I also got tortilla chips because I know how much you like crumbling them in your chili.”

“Mom, why did you invite her? I told you to leave her alone, to leave usalone.”

“What are you talking about?” My mom looks me up and down and then goes back to the chili.

“Harper. I asked you not to invite Harper.”

The bathroom door opens, and Jen pops out, rubbing her hands together. “Did he come in yet?” Her eyes light up as she spots me. “What time was it?”

“Eight minutes. Reid won.”

Disappointed, she snaps her fingers. “Damn, I for sure thought I was going to win.”

Confused, I turn back to my mom. “Harper isn’t here?”

“No, of course not. I wouldn’t invite her so early. She needs time to settle. What made you think she was here?”

I whip around to find Reid leaning against the kitchen wall, arms crossed and with a giant grin on his face. I point at him. “You better run, because I’m going to fucking kill you.”

Like a bolt of lightning, he takes off, and I chase after him, nothing but pure murder on my mind.

ThatForeverGirl_teaser-6-2

That Forever Girl is the second book in Quinn’s Getting Lucky series and can easily be read as a standalone.

I have mixed feelings on this one. While I loved the message that Meghan brings us in the book, I was not too attached to the characters. I did not feel any real empathy or passion from either one and not feeling that connection to them really hurt the overall vibe on the book.

Harper and Rogan were high school sweethearts and were engaged when Rogan tore them apart. Rogan moved back to Port Snow while Harper chose to move around, trying to patch her broken heart. She finds herself back seven years later and that attraction is still just as strong between them. However, neither wants to face the other.

The story is told from both their POVs and does flip back and forth between past and present. There were times that I felt things were a bit too drawn out for past scenes but it was the mystery behind the breakup that drove this story. It is also the catalyst into making Rogan grow up and mature into the man he is now.

You truly need to read this story to see how Meghan has everything play out. Rogan is most definitely a dick the majority of the book – no way around that. Harper comes across somewhat as this damsel, but she is anything but that. She is very strong, but she’s a quiet storm – don’t under estimate her. While I felt like the Knightly family would have had meddled in this breakup way before now, they still do their own meddling once Harper is back in town.

I enjoyed the banter amongst the brothers and the typical ribbing that goes on. Another part that hurt in feeling a connection was I had a hard time seeing the close knit that Harper had to the family (felt Jen or Griffin would’ve contacted Harper immediately or before now) but when she returns it’s as if she’s been in contact with them the whole time.

Overall, while I enjoyed the message that Meghan conveys in this story, everything else was just ok for me. It might be have been just bad timing on my part because I always love Meghan’s books but this one fell short for me. But I am definitely in the minority on this one and would still tell others to give it a go.

Book Blurb:

In a split-second, a car crash killed almost everything between them. Ten years later, can one accidental ride fix tattered spirits, uncertain futures, and broken hearts?

Lily Grantham has always done what she’s been told. The daughter of a senator, she grew up as the good girl of Fawn Hill, and carried that torch right on through to adulthood. Her only wild streak? Bowen Nash. She loved that boy since the day they laid eyes on each other, and it nearly ended them both. A decade later, and Lily still can’t move on. Even if Bowen has made it clear he doesn’t love her anymore.

Bowen Nash never wanted the life he’s trapped in. Destined for baseball fame and the love of his high-school sweetheart, that existence vanished in the flip of an old pickup. Now, he’s stuck in the town that produced his worst nightmare. Pretending to hate Lily Grantham guts him day in and day out. But to protect her from the ultimate secret, it’s necessary to break his own heart each time they pass on the street.

They’ve been fighting fate for as long as it’s been chasing them. And now, time is up.

Add the book to Goodreads

Forgiven is the second book in The Nash Brothers series. It’s Bowen and Lily’s story, which we got a glimpse of in the first book.

Bowen and Lily have a love that very few find – it’s a love that never stops, regardless of how much time has passed; regardless of how many hurt feelings have passed in between. For ten years, Lily and Bowen have been trying to move on with their lives but can’t get past what happened so many years ago.

Carrie sets this story up very well, but I was not in love with the reasoning behind the secret. I love that neither Bowen nor Lily ever deny their love for another (at least to themselves). Lily can’t move forward because she needs answers that Bowen refuses to give. Bowen can’t move forward because his heart belongs to Lily.

The story plays out nicely without a lot of drama. However, when a secret is held for ten years, I expected there to be a bit more drama and for the secret to be a bit more dire than it was. For me, this was the biggest let-down of the book. I loved getting to know Bowen an Lily a bit more and that there attraction wasn’t drug out. But I felt that the huge secret and how it all came out was equivalent to a deflating balloon – just meh.

Overall, it was good read but it didn’t give me the same vibes as the first book. I know a lot of people will love this one because there is no drama or angst and it’s truly a swoony romance. But when you lead the story with a huge secret that has taken ten years away from two people, I wanted there to be a more dramatic flare added in.

Definitely give the book a read – the characters are very likeable and I do love the small, home-town background these books are based around. I will definitely continue on with the series and see Carrie gives us with the twins, Fletcher and Forrest.

Release Day Blitz & Review….Envy (The Elite Seven) by M.N. Forgy

ENVY BY M.N. FORGY

AN ELITE SEVEN IS LIVE!

Keep reading to grab your copy & to enter to win a $20 gift card!!!

It was temptation that broke the sinner.

People say I have everything.
They’re wrong.
I may have looks, money, and privilege, but I don’t have the one thing that really matters, the one thing I crave: a woman with eyes only for me.
I’m searching for my woman—one who will fall to her knees because I’m her king. She’ll wear the crown of my tarnished name, and long for me when I’m not near. And when I am close, she’ll be naked across my lap, feeling the sting of my palm across her milky skin.
You could say I’m a sinner because I’d do anything to have the perfect woman—compliant to my every need and whim—and I’m envious of every couple who walks around naive to the luxury they have.

That’s why I joined The Elite, the most prestigious brotherhood in the south.
It’s the one place that will give me what I cannot have.
Only…the task assigned to me is too much for my jealous eyes.
Accept your sin wisely, for the tasks given to earn your place are not for the weak…they’re for The Elite.
Those who envy have no peace.
My name is Sabastian Westbrook.
I am Envy.

Envy is the fourth book in The Elite Seven series and is definitely more on what I expected from these books, but it lacked in some areas for me.

Envy it felt a tad rushed and didn’t really elude to anything new going on. We did some get “behind the scenes” of things that had happened in previous books but there was nothing truly new that developed til near the end. However, this book is the only one that truly delves into the actual sin, envy.

Sebastian (Envy) definitely isn’t a likeable character. He’s got his issues and how he handles them isn’t good. Sebastian is truly envious of others and the love they find, especially his elite brothers. And how he deals with his envious thoughts is extremely scary. He has very deep rooted issues and has no control over them.

While we didn’t learn anything new in the plot of the overall story, Envy definitely ranks higher on the scales of what I had anticipated in this series and made for a much suspenseful read. There is little to no romance in this book, which for me, actually works. When you are writing about the seven deadly sins, romance really doesn’t come to mind.

Overall, it was decent read. I did find myself skimming this one because there wasn’t a lot of depth or plot going on, I was intrigued as how to Sebastian played a role in everything. I did expect him to play a bigger role overall (and he may still with certain things that happened) but I expected this one to bit a more developed than what we got.

We shall see in the coming books what happens next……

The Elite Seven

7 AUTHORS.
7 STORIES.
7 DEADLY SINS.

Since 1942, The Elite Seven Society have created and guided influential leaders, molding the country into something better. This society was birthed by Malcolm Benedict, II who wanted more for Americans. More wealth. More influence. More power. Some leaders have the skills, but not the influence, and that simply wasn’t fair according to Mr. Benedict. He invested his own money and time to construct a society that bred the best of the best, year after year.

But to be the best, you must be ruthless.

Good leaders make sacrifices. Sometimes the sacrifices are hard, but the rewards are plentiful. Mr. Benedict made sure to indulge these leaders with their utmost desires. A devout Catholic himself, he designed a society that rewarded his leaders with the sins that were frowned upon. If they were giving up love and happiness and joy for the betterment of the country, they deserved something in its stead.

Pride, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, and Lust.

Choosing leaders for this society means that it takes intense focus. Only seven are to be selected, and the investments and time are showered upon the new seven chosen every four years. The predecessors of each group of seven choose people who fit the sin that will mold them into who they are needed to be in the future—what America needs them to be. This is after a detailed study of many potential candidates. The university’s acting dean behaves as a liaison for the society bringing the college applicants to the predecessors so that the selection may begin. The society members who are going out will bring forth a candidate that the society votes on and approves.

After they are chosen, the initiates are given a token and an invitation to initiation. The initiation will be a test to their character and ability to do what’s right for the betterment of the society. Once the initiates pass their test, they are discreetly branded with the mark of the society and are groomed through challenges during the course of their elite education to breed them into the influential people they were meant to be.

Once in The Elite Seven, there is no getting out. The money and power are their rewards. Should they choose to stray or break the rules, the society strips them of everything. Anything they once had will be removed. Opportunities will never arise. They will no longer have the support of the society. To this day, there have been no known occurrences of anyone from the society having to be banished. This elite group of people is what every young man and woman aspire to be a part of. While the group is a secret society, they are whispered about amongst the privileged folks in the country. Anyone who is anyone knows of the group and secretly hopes it’s their son or daughter who is selected, for good fortune is showered on the family for decades to come.

Lust: NOW LIVE

I was born with wealth, athletic ability, and looks that could melt the panties off a nun.
I had a clear path to success.
Until fate dealt me a cruel blow, leaving me empty and in need of purpose.
My only focus now is to become part of The Elite—a secret society in one of the most prestigious colleges in the world.
But everything comes at a price, and with The Elite, you have to earn your place.
Lucky for me, being sinful is in my DNA.
The only obstacle to full initiation is my task: seduce the un-seducible, the forbidden, and lure her with the sins of the flesh.
Easy for a man like me…in theory.
She started as my task, but what happens when the lines between lust and love blur, and the need for power rages war with the need for her?

Wrath: NOW LIVE

With a taste for the deviant, I’m drawn to the darkest of desires, and no one ever leaves my bed unscathed.
My task: seduce Patience Noelle, St. Augustine’s sweetheart and the mayor’s beloved daughter—then break her heart.

Sinning is what I live for, and deviance is my passion. Failing has never been an option.

But what happens when my sin becomes my curse—when destroying the only woman I’ve ever wanted is my key to protecting my sister?
Accept your sin wisely, for the tasks given to earn your place are not for the weak…they’re for The Elite.

This isn’t just my chance, it’s my legacy and reckoning.

Envy: NOW LIVE

I am Envy.

Greed: Releasing April 8th

I was born into a world of darkness—one that never touched me when I was around my brother, Mason Blackwell. Leader of The Elite Seven. The thing about darkness, though, is it’s persistent. Eventually, it pushes itself into my life, penetrating my soul and leaving its stench latched to every vein, rooted inside every bone, and sunken into every pore. I thought I reached rock bottom when I fell in love with my brother’s best friend. My very own brand of drug with no comedown. My own nightmare I never woke from. But I was wrong. So very wrong. When I returned to New Orleans, I arrived as a shell of the girl they once knew. Put on a smile. Be the sweet innocent girl they remember.

I’m Evie Blackwell, hostage to my demons. Can the damned be saved?

I’ve done some unforgivable acts in my years, but I never asked for forgiveness. Nothing beats the feeling of wrapping my hand around someone’s throat and watching as their life bleeds down their cheeks. She was everything I should have stayed away from. The first night I saw her, I knew I was doomed—a slave to the girl with the pretty eyes and soft smile. The girl who turned out to be my best friend’s baby sister. I couldn’t stay away. I had to be near her, even if it meant ruining her in the process. I wanted to wreck her, so I could piece her back together—a puzzle only I knew how to solve.

I’m Micah Dixon.
Greed.
I come for everything and get everything I come for—and I want all of her. But she’s changed, and so have I.
I’m much, much worse now…

Gluttony: Releasing April 22nd

My life has been served to me on a gold platter to be devoured by my silver spoon.

Money, money, and more money. It’s the backbone of the Goddard name. I’m the only son, so it’s all mine for the taking.

But sometimes money isn’t enough. I always want more, yet nothing seems to satisfy me.

My father has made sure I become a part of The Elite Seven. Where most candidates are chosen, I was given my place. Everything comes at a price, though. Luckily, I can afford any price—no one has more money than God.

The Elite Seven have their initiations. My assignment is personal and beneath me: steal a car and send a warning. It’ll hurt my best friend in the process, but we both made a pact going into this. There’s no line we won’t cross.

My task makes an ugly turn and I nearly take a life. Such a small, unimportant person—someone no one would even notice was gone. She’s a problem my money and power can easily sweep under the rug.

It’s what my father wants. It’s what my brothers want. But when she finally opens those big, innocent brown eyes, I realize I’ve found what I’ve been searching for my entire life. I don’t want my little problem to disappear…I want to keep her.

Accept your sin wisely, for the tasks given to earn your place are not for the weak—they’re for The Elite.

Money is my legacy, but I want something money can’t buy.
I am Baxter Samuel Goddard V.
I am Gluttony.

Sloth: Releasing May 13th

I don’t give a fuck.
Not about money or fame, beauty or power. I’ve had all those things since birth, and trust me, they’re a fucking snooze.
I don’t give a fuck about anyone, not even myself.
Until my father proves evil can exist in the most holy of places. For the first time ever, something like interest stirs in my soul.
He wants me to enroll at St. Augustine.
Join The Elite.
Court the virginal daughter of Archbishop Savoie.
Prove to him I’m worth the family name.
I’ll do it all.
And I’ll do it so well, no one will know what’s coming. People are so quick to underestimate the wicked and lazy.
They forget idle hands are the best tools for the devil’s work.
I am Rush Dempsey.
I am Sloth.

Release Day Blitz & Review….Glass Castle Prince by Nicole Williams

AP new - synopsis.jpg

A glass castle shatters as easily as a glass house—all it takes is one stone.

Prince Edward has known this all of his life, and taken staunch measures to ensure he doesn’t give the public any reason to pick up their rocks. Or torches. Or pitchforks. As a twenty-two-year-old in line to ascend the throne, he lives more like a cloistered monk than his college-aged peers. Restraint is the tone of his life, resilience the theme.

That is, until he meets a young woman who couldn’t care less about his title—unless she’s poking fun at it. Charlotte Everly grew up a stone’s throw away from the royal family’s summer house, but her life was, and is, entirely different from the prince’s.

They clash at each turn, disagree on every topic, and bear a general contempt for one another. Until . . .

One night, accompanied by one proposal, leads to one lapse in judgment . . .

Results in a nationwide scandal neither of them will escape

Anyone who knows me or follows my reviews, knows that I love Nicole Williams and her writing. And to give her books anything less than 4 stars is truly hard. 3 stars are still books that I feel are good reads and would recommend, but they just didn’t meet certain criteria for me.

Glass Castle Prince is very sweet and endearing read. I love the synopsis but somewhere along the lines, the plot itself just wasn’t there for me. Everything just seemed too bland and nothing truly exciting ever came to be. And I will be honest, I don’t think this it up to par with Nicole’s typical writing.

Charlotte and Edward were decent characters, but nothing truly stood out to make them unforgettable. The secondary characters, Edwards friends and Charlotte’s bestie were absolutely hilarious and truly kept this story entertaining. While Charlotte and Edward weren’t my favorites, they still were enjoyable to read.

As I said, this story was sweet. Everything just sort of fell in place. I can’t say that there were even twists into this story as everything seemed predictable but still made for an endearing read. Nothing was bad about this story, just wasn’t Nicole’s best. While this story may not been one to arouse any interest from me; it’s a very light and easy read that most will enjoy.

AP new -about the author.jpg

Nicole Williams is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of contemporary and young adult romance, including the Crash and Lost & Found series. Her books have been published by HarperTeen and Simon & Schuster in both domestic and foreign markets, while she continues to self-publish additional titles. She is working on a new YA series with Crown Books (a division of Random House) as well. She loves romance, from the sweet to the steamy, and writes stories about characters in search of their happily even after. She grew up surrounded by books and plans on writing until the day she dies, even if it’s just for her own personal enjoyment. She still buys paperbacks because she’s all nostalgic like that, but her kindle never goes neglected for too long. When not writing, she spends her time with her husband and daughter, and whatever time’s left over she’s forced to fit too many hobbies into too little time.

Nicole is represented by Jane Dystel, of Dystel and Goderich Literary Agency.
