Back In The Game by Meghan Quinn…Release Day Blitz & Review

But Rachel isn’t the only girl in Calder’s life which scares him, because Calder’s daughter already lost her mother. I had the pleasure of reading Back In The Game when it was part of the anthology, Team Player. And I enjoyed is just as much the second time around as I did the first time I read it.

This was very quick, sweet and funny read. I am not fan of insta-love, but again, when written properly, I can look past that and enjoy the book and get caught up in the magic – and that was the case with this book.

Calder is hockey player and a single dad. His daughter is his world and his dedication to her is amazing. That alone won me over.

Rachel was a hoot. She’s a school teacher and her personality fits that. She’s a bubbly woman who takes things in strides.

The camaraderie between Calder and Rachel is what made this story so easy to enjoy and love. Meghan has this knack for making her characters so real and relatable. Not only did these two have a great chemistry, but their banter was great. And I have to say is text messages – these were a perfect addition to this story.

If you have never read Meghan’s books before (what rock are you hiding under??!), this will be the perfect book to see her funny side of writing.

If you have read Meghan before, you will love this book just as much as her others.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

That ending – I knew to expect a major cliffhanger, but that, no. I never expected that.

I have no idea where to start my review because that ending leaves you going “GIVE ME THE NEXT BOOK!!”

Iron Princess starts off where Savage Prince ended. And if you did not read that book yet, what the hell are you waiting for?!? Seriously – stop reading my review and go read Meghan’s books. They are way better. 🙂

Meghan is at the top of her game with these series. She brings everything and each book just gets better and better. Action, suspense, hot romance, off the charts chemistry and a story that leaves you breathless.

Kane – lord that man makes me want things I shouldn’t. And Temperance, she is the woman I wish I could be. I love that these two know when to push and when to pull back. Being able to see things from both their POVs, it really pushes this book to another level.

Yea, I know, my review is very vague as to what happens in this book. And it’s suppose to. One shred of plot line and you know everything. That is how well and perfectly woven this story is. Meghan tells a tale that even a scruple of information will hurt the whole vibe going in.

I know that with every book in these trilogies, I will be going in headfirst and never breaking for anything. I don’t want to and I can’t. I am in too deep with the characters and their stories. I NEED MORE!!!

It was happening again.

The moaning.

I put a pillow over my face and screamed.

Not because it was too loud.

But because I kept wondering who was causing it. One? Two? All three? Leo and Finn had both tried to talk to me in class and at the coffee shop again. I’d brushed them off but been polite.

And Knox?

Well, let’s just say that Knox had suddenly turned over a leaf that said, “Go out of my way to make Shawn’s life miserable.”

He was suddenly everywhere.

And with a different female every single day.

It drove me insane.

Bat-shit crazy.

And he wasn’t even mine to go senseless over!

The moan happened again.

“That’s it!” I got up from my bed, stomped over to the door, and jerked it open. Then I pounded my way over to their room and almost took down the door with my knock .

When Leo answered, he grinned down at me. “Come to play?”

I gave him the finger.

His eyes narrowed. “I’m confused. Is that yes or no?”

“Agh!” I threw my hands up in the air. “I have practice tomorrow at five a.m. It’s three. I’ve had one hour of sleep. Can you please keep the moaning to a minimum?”

“You seem stressed.” He tilted his head just as Finn joined him in the doorway. “Doesn’t she?”

“Very.” Finn nodded then reached out and started massaging my right trap while Leo grabbed my hand and worked my fingers. It felt so damn good that I forgot I was pissed for about two seconds before I pulled away.

“No.” I jabbed my finger at each of their chests. “Shame on you. Stop using your skills to make me less crazy. I need sleep.”

“I could not agree more.” Leo put his hand over his chest. “If you want, I can come over and—”

“No!” I made a fist with my hands. “I don’t need you to help me sleep. I need you to keep your clients quiet so that I can sleep. Big difference.”

Knox appeared then and held out a pair of Bose noise-canceling headphones. “You can borrow them every Friday as long as you don’t set them on fire when you’re done.”

“Do you think I really want whatever STDs are crawling around the surface?” I hissed.

His eyes turned lethal. “Then I guess you won’t sleep.”

“Dun, dun, dun,” Finn sang in a low voice, just as a small lady who could pass as my grandmother made an appearance and shoved a fifty-dollar bill in Knox’s pants then patted him on his rock-hard six-pack. She had a full-on red wig perched backward on her head and cherry red cheeks with black glasses that she kept shoving up her nose. And her purse looked like something I would have seen on I Love Lucy. It was this giant black clutch that probably held cough drops and prunes.

“Thanks, boys.”

“Love you, Edna!” Finn called while Leo brushed a kiss across her hand.

She finger-waved at Knox and straight-up waddled out of the suite.

I stared after her, my jaw dropping with each step she took until she was out of eyesight.

“What…” I shook my head. “…I mean, seriously, guys, what?”

Finn’s eyes got serious. “She’s lonely.”

“She’s at least eighty!” I yelled, so exhausted I was actually arguing with crazy.

Knox got all up in my business and said through clenched teeth, “Her husband died a year ago. She’s not comfortable with internet dating yet. We’re easing her in because she wants a partner for life, someone she can laugh with, so if we can give her that one laugh, that nice touch once a week, we’re going to fucking do it. Now jump off that pedestal, take the damn Bose, and go to sleep.”

That was the moment Beckham appeared in the doorway like a storm cloud.

He bared his teeth to her, and she shrank back. “These are meant to drink your blood. To drink you dry until there is nothing left of your body but a dry corpse. We are killers. We don’t hesitate. Just because we’re wearing suits and seem more like you . . . does not mean we are like you. We are not like you. They especially are not like you. OMG!! Now is this a paranormal romance that everyone needs to read!!

I have REALLY high standards when it comes to paranormal romances, especially when vampires are involved. I was definitely a bit leery going into this because of the standards I have. K.A. smashed those standards for me. The world she has created is so unique and unlike anything I have read before.

Blood Type is set in a world where vampires and humans co-exist together. It’s almost like a post-apocalyptic world where everyone is trying to find their place in the world after it went to shit. However, it’s vampires that are taking control and not zombies. And they are trying to make things better for all, humans and vampires. But when one is in control of the other, the battle of wills is bound to happen. And not everyone has the same endgame.

Reyna is at the point in her life where she feels that she has become a burden to her brothers. No one wants to hire her because she does not have a college education and she can’t afford to go to college. That leaves with her one option, becoming a blood escort to the vampire elite.

Reyna is assigned to none other than Beckham Anderson. Beckham is one of top members and one that Reyna finds both terrifying and alluring. He’s an enigma to her because he won’t feed off her yet she hears stories of how people fear him.

” ‘Oh Little One, this world will kill the goodness left within your beating heart.’
‘But it will not break me.’
‘No,’ he agreed. He leaned his head into her hard and drew a deep breath. ‘I will do that’ ”

K.A. blew me away with this book and how everything plays out. This book is written in third POV, which is not my favorite, but I will admit, that I found myself drowning in this book and forgetting about all about that. K.A. did a great job with writing in this perspective; I feel it actually worked best with this story as were able to understand everything from all angles. I was able to figure out a few things, but in no way did that take away from this story. If anything, it just added to the hype of this book and all the excitement I was experiencing. It’s been quite some time that I felt this exhilaration for a paranormal book.

These characters are perfectly written. Reyna is a strong heroine in our own right, who also questions herself like anyone else would in her position. But she’s not a pushover and stands up for herself. I love that she has no problems going against the norm. And Becks, that man. He definitely had me going back and forth on him. I have my opinions on some other characters that play an intricate role in this series and I will just leave it at that because I do not want to give anything else away.

If you love paranormal reads, you MUST read this book.

If paranormal reads aren’t your typical style, you still MUST read this.

If you love, angsty, suspenseful and dramatic reads, you MUST read this.

I may have dipped my toes in to start, but I was immediately diving head first in after the first few sentences of this book. I never once wanted to take a breath and stop reading. And I really need book 2, NOW!!
