Nerdy Little Secret has got to be one of the sweetest books I have read this year. I am a sucker for NA romances and this book shows why.

The blurb gives you all need to know about this book. I love the premise of this and Carrie wrote this story beautifully. Mick and Jolie are two characters that readers will fall in love with and wishing for their HEA.

Carrie does a great job of getting readers to connect to the characters and understand them more than just the surface of who they are. The flow is perfect as nothing is too rushed and Carrie doesn’t lose the reader with the mundane day to day nuances of college life.

Nerd Little Secret is about as true to life as you can get with a college romance with how everything pans out (minus a few things that can only happen in a book or movie). The realism in this book is what helps make the book all the more enjoyable and the characters lovable.

Carrie always knows how to deliver a sweet romance that leaves you with this feeling of bliss. Nerdy Little Secret is just another example of why I will always read whatever she writes.

Lyric and Wolf’s journey is one that will leave you breathless. Be My Brayshaw can be read as a complete standalone.

I read the first book this series and went no further (many reasons on why). When I was given the option review this book since it was a standalone within the series, I figured I would give it a go.

First off – I definitely wouldn’t recommend reading this book without reading the prior ones. The Brayshaw boys are too connected to be left out of each other’s stories and that proves true in this book. Yes, this book evolves around Captain mostly, but you need to have an understanding of their dynamics to know why. As for Victoria, it’s just as though she is there out of nowhere (obviously introduced in early book) and it felt like I was thrown into a story that had already started and was playing catchup as I read along.

As for the story itself, once I felt like I had somewhat of an understanding as to how Victoria fit in, things began to make more sense and the story got more interesting. It’s definitely a slow buildup plot and things unravel at a decent pace most of the time. There is one particular thing that I felt was built for no reason because the outcome was somewhat of a letdown. (If you wish to know what, they’re hidden as a spoiler on my review on goodreads).

The tension between Victoria and Captain was another addition to the plot. While I can’t say there was any love between them, there was definitely lust. They both challenged one another so that push and pull added to things but I was not sold on them being together for love. But they definitely make things hot even when they are tangoing between the sheets. So that’s a plus.

Overall, while there were parts that annoyed me and there was parts that I really enjoyed. It was good enough for me to finish, even though lit took longer than normal. Those who read the first three books and loved them, I have no doubt will love this one. Those who haven’t read the books at all, may be a tad confused at the beginning but should stick it through and finish it because it’s an entertaining read, even if there’s a lot of drawn out angst and overused dramatics.

Will I read the next one?? More than likely because these boys are entertaining. 🙂

“Why?” I asked, blinking at him in confusion. I had two left legs and the coordination of roadkill. I couldn’t dance if my life depended on it. The Hunter is the first standalone contemporary romance in Shen’s newest series, Boston Belles. And she truly started this series off with a two-bunch and kept things moving at a high-pace octane.

L.J. Shen really knows how to write entertaining and quirky characters. Hunter and Sailor could not be any more opposite if they tried. Sailor keeps to herself and has always focused solely on her archery. Hunter lives in his life in the spot life and has no problems with all the attention he gets.

Hunter is the epitome of the classic playboy with broken pieces hidden on the inside. He keeps everything closed off and keeps people far enough away that they never see the pain he feels. Hunter puts on a great façade with his playboy antics and his “don’t give two shits’ mentality because he can get away with anything – well almost anything. When a sex tape gets out – that is the final nail in his coffin.

Sailor has been training harder and harder to make the Olympics’ Archery team. She’s never really cared for a social life and has truly only had 2 best friends her whole life. Her life has always been her family, her two friends and archery.

And now Sailor is Hunter’s only hope to prove to his father that he’s not just some playboy. Sailor wants nothing to do with Hunter and he does not make it easy to forget that he is around. I love the banter between these two so much. They are complete polar opposites in every single thing. But they force each other outside their norms without realizing it. They also gradually see and learn how to adapt to one another in ways they never anticipated.

The Hunter is an amazing enemies to lovers romance. Shen does a phenomenal job of showing that not all attraction has to be immediate and it can be something that is gradual as you get to know a person; their inner beauty can truly shine outwards.

Shen truly sets this series up perfectly with The Hunter. The story of Hunter of Sailor is written extremely well and Shen litters the other characters and their attributes perfectly without taking away from the main story. I cannot wait to see who’s story is next.

I might’ve hated Vaughn, but I hated myself more for not standing up to him. For not opening my eyes and spitting in his face. Clawing his unnaturally blue eyes out. Taunting him back for all the times he’d taunted all of us at Carlisle Prep.
“By the way, your eyelids are moving,” he said drily, chuckling.
He straightened up, his finger making a brief stop at the base of my spine. He snapped his fingers, making a breaking sound, and I nearly jumped out of my skin, letting out a gasp. I squeezed my eyes tighter, still pretending to sleep.
He laughed.
The bastard laughed.
Was he sparing me for the time being? Was he going to check in on me from now on? Retaliate if I opened my mouth? He was so unpredictable. I wasn’t sure what my life would look like in the morning.

Sweet geez, that was intense!!! WOW. This book definitely takes your breath away.

Angry God was sooooo much more than I had anticipated. And it is by far, my favorite in this series. I am not sure what that says about me, but I freaking devoured this book because I could not get enough of it.

This book will not be for everything as it deals with some heavy subject matter and will hit the nerves of those with a history of being bullied. Also, Shen in no way glorifies or excuses bullying, but it definitely makes you view the actions of others from a different POV.

Lenora and Vaughn’s journey is not a pretty one. It is riddled with pain, grit and a lot of darkness. These two hold no punches when it comes to expressing themselves, especially to one another. Vaughn has always had this god-like presence and people have come to respect that. However, he has met his match when Lenora comes trapezing back into his life during their senior year of high school. And their tortured souls never get a break as they both continue on from high school into their internship at the same university.

Shen writes two complicated and twisted characters that will leave your heart breaking. Vaughn hides his scars behind his walls and Lenora is the only one who seems to be able to see past them. Lenora is the complete opposite of Vaughn in many ways and her attitude towards him is what slowly breaks down those walls he has built.

Shen truly delivers it all with Angry God. She saved the best for last and wrecked our hearts beautifully.

The Trouble with Gravity is standalone within the Gravity series. You do not need to read any of the other books to thoroughly enjoy this one.

Initially after reading this book, I truly loved it. Now that it’s been about two weeks (completely forgot to write review), I have to say that my love for this book isn’t quite as high. It’s not to say that I still didn’t really enjoy it, but I can sit back and relook at everything instead of that through that initial high you get when you finishing a really good read.

Kai and Sebastian’s story is a sweet romance but it starts off very rocky. Sebastian is a selfish asshole who has been burned in the past. But he’s allowed those past problems dictate a lot in his life, especially how he handles things. Kai has overcome some difficult times in her life but there are still things that she hasn’t been able to face head on.

When Kai auditions for a part in production that Sebastian is running, she’s not sure she is right for the part. Sebastian has his own personal reasons for wanting Kai to take the lead and Kai has her own fears to face in order to take part. However, they both aren’t exactly what one would call friendly with one another. The encounters they have had are heated, at best. But at the time winds down, Kai finds herself seeing less reasons to not take the role.

Allen plays this story out at the perfect pace. Kai and Sebastian slowly to get to know one another on the professional level but also somewhere along the lines, it turns into a friendship. And then when they both stop fighting the chemistry between them, it becomes more.

I love that there aren’t any clichés in this book and everything that happens feels so real. As I said – I don’t have the same high as when I finished it, but I still remember so much about this book. And for me, that still makes for a great book to read.

The Trouble With Gravity is another great read from K.K. Allen.
