About EXQUISITE TASTE

He was a dare she couldn’t walk away from.

She was a game he was determined to win.

Jensen Stone was thriving in her first year of college. So thirsty for success she could already taste the achievements on her lips. Nothing would get in the way of her dreams, not even the social pressures of pledging. Until one night, she finds herself in the lion’s den of sorority row, accepting a dare she knew she couldn’t complete.

Damien Cross was bored. He no longer craved the dominance and control he had swirling in the palms of his powerful hands. He was determined to walk away from the empire he’d spent the last ten years building. What he didn’t factor in was the unexpected distraction. He might be angry at her inconvenient timing, but the urge to break the new toy dangling in front of him was all consuming. It wouldn’t hurt to play one last time.

One night. His rules.

Will she obey his demands to fulfill a dare?

Or will she realize his dark tastes are anything but exquisite?

I caress the bare flesh of her neck with my thumb, my voice dropping an octave. “Tell me, what would you do if I pushed you against this door, pressed my lips here…” I press into the spot just below her ear. “And stroke my tongue exactly where your pulse is beating erratically?”

I take a slow step toward her, closing the gap between us, and she retreats one step back. “You know what that means?” I press harder over her vein. “The way your heart rate has picked up? The way all five senses yell danger, yet your endorphins are letting off a hormonal sensor that screams curiosity even louder. You’re not one of those girls, but the fact that you haven’t bothered to fight me off yet tells me you may want to be.”

Her lips part and I get the sudden desire to shove my tongue inside her mouth. I take another step forward and get the pleasure of her body pressed against mine. I smile at her loss of confidence as she gasps, realizing her mistake. She shuffles back, and I follow step for step until her back hits the door and I have her cornered. My head dips and goose bumps rise over her skin beneath my fingertips as my warm breath coasts along her flesh.

“I’ve had my hand around your neck for over a minute and a half now,” I whisper against her earlobe. “You haven’t even screamed for help, nor tried to fight me off. Haven’t even shown a bit of defiance for someone who isn’t into ‘sick petting shit.’” I end with my mouth a hairsbreadth from her neck, her pulse so erratic, I almost feel the vibrations on my lips. Her breath quickens. If I wanted to take this farther, she’d let me. No questions asked.

But she’s far from what I need.

Jensen tilts her head slightly to the side, allowing me better access to her neck, and I release her. She stumbles back and falls limp against the door at my brute action, but I don’t bother to help steady her. “As I said, no.” I take a step to the side. “Goodnight, Ms. Jensen.” I reach for the door, enjoying the fire that ignites in her emerald green eyes.

    “You…asshole.”

My grip tightens around the handle as my dick rages with need. Twice, she’s had the nerve to speak to me with such a tongue. Her mouth pisses me off, but the thought of punishing her for it turns me red hot.

I need her gone.

I throw the door open, and she jumps. “That I may be, pet, but I’m an asshole who has no room for the plain likes of you. Just as you said, your unlikeliness to survive one night in this club is the reason why applying would be nonsense. Go home, back to your pampered life. Return to whoever allowed you to borrow their dress, which looks horrendous on you, and forget about your silly dare. You’ve wasted enough of my time. Out.”

My words are harsh, but they do the job. I’ve driven her mute. If she’s smart, she’ll stay that way and leave my office. At least read the cold look on my face. No one, even a child like herself, insults me in my own club.

“You can try to offend me all you want, I don’t give a shit. Trust me, you aren’t anything to call home about either.”

I laugh. “I’m deeply wounded, but I haven’t gotten to where I am by being nothing to call home about.”

“Well, you disgust me.” She crosses her arms over her chest, making her breasts more appealing.

“Noted. Out you go.” I place my hand on her back to help her out, but it gets shoved off.

    “Do not touch me.”

Strike three. My hand twitches, fighting off the need to grace her ass with a good smack. Teach her a lesson for being so disobedient. “You’re really testing my patience,” I grit out between clenched teeth. “I suggest you leave before I have you escorted out by your hair.”

Her mouth drops instantly. It wasn’t my intention to speak that harshly, but my temper is at its breaking point. If I don’t get her out of my sight, I can’t be responsible for what I might do.

“You know what? With pleasure.” She turns and steps outside my office, spinning back. “Have fun burning in hell, son of Satan.”

“I most certainly will, Ms. Jensen.”

And then my vision of her is cut off by the door slamming in her face. My heart rate picks up, my hands at a small jitter. Lifting my palms, I wipe the stress from my face and walk back to the mirrored window. After a few moments, I see her storm through the crowd, then turn and lift her middle finger to the window. I laugh at her courageousness—which is so unlike me. No one has attempted to speak to me like that in a very long time.

Not three minutes later, a knock sounds as the door opens. “Damien, the girl’s being put in a cab.”

“Good.” I turn away from the window and head toward my desk. “I want to know the location of where she’s dropped off. Then I want to know everything about her.”

“Damien—” Fredrick hesitates, trying to argue, but I cut him off.

    “Everything.”

Another book, where I am right down the middle with the rating and for various reasons. But please, in no way, take that as a bad thing.

I love the premise for Exquisite Taste – a young college student, Jensen, enters a sex club on a dare and ends up in the hands of the sex club owner, Damien, eventually landing herself in even deeper water.

Without going into details, or giving you more than what the blurb does, I will just say that Jensen spikes Damien’s curiosity in ways he never expected. And Jensen’s own curiosity and her reactions to certain things, has her looking at things differently.

So here is where I am right down the middle with this one. I loved the added humor that helped with the banter and interactions between Damien and Jensen – it helped with the age barrier and kept the characters more real. There were scenes that I felt were played out perfectly and others that felt too unreal due to Jensen’s naivety with BDSM.

J.D. does a great job of blending the erotic elements with the humor and the suspense. It kept the story moving along and I think helped keeping entertaining. You get the bare minimums on background story on both Damien and Jensen with the focus more on the present; Jensen is learning her true desires while Damien is quickly finding out what he truly wants in life. Then there is the quick ending and how everything comes together – everything just felt rushed in the end.

Overall, this was an ok read, for me. It wasn’t be a top read, but it wasn’t a bad read. I just wasn’t overly wow’d by it or the characters. I think this would be a good book for those who want to dip their toes into BDSM but not get fully into all the aspects and the erotic parts of it.

I have no doubt others will enjoy this book much more than I did. I always consider a 3 star book still a good book to read. I love J.D. and her writing and will continue to read more of her work – I love her story lines and the fact they are never dull.

Release Day Blitz & Review….Falling For the Playboy by Kennedy Fox

Never trust a man who gets paid to take off his clothes for a living and then uses it as a pick-up line to get girls in bed with him.

That should’ve been enough for me to call in sick that day.

I’ve worked with male cover models like him before and they’re all the same—smooth-talking, sexy as sin, egotistical know-it-alls who think they’re God’s gift to women—all traits I know to steer clear of.

Assisting authors comes with many perks—reading on the job, using my organizing skills on a daily basis, drinking coffee by the gallons—but Maverick Kingston barges into my life and demands more than I can handle.

When we’re forced to road trip across the country together, he pushes every boundary I have and rearranges my thoughts on playing it safe. And when he “accidentally” drops his towel, he makes it very clear what he’s offering and proves he’s packing more than abs of steel under his clothes.

Working with him was brutal, but falling for him was unexpected.

And playing by the rules will be impossible.

Olivia’s POV

“Can I turn off this church music?” Maverick asks thirty minutes into our trip. He leans forward and starts messing with the knob.

“It’s nice driving music,” I argue, swatting his hand away.

“You can’t be serious. This shit is gonna put you to sleep and then we’re going to crash and die. You really want that on your conscious?”

The corner of his lips tilt up just the slightest.

“Guess it wouldn’t matter. I’d be dead.” I flash a smug smile right back at him.

“Oh I see how it is. You look all innocent and smart but deep down you have this morbidness to you.”

I shoot him a look. “You’re the morbid one with all your crashing and dying talk.” I turn my music back on. “Now no more talking about it because if I don’t get you to these events on time, Rachel will actually kill me.”

“Why you so scared of her anyway? I could fit her in my pocket. She looks harmless enough.”

Glancing at him, I try to focus on the road and shake my head. “You know she’s anything but harmless.”

He chuckles, shaking his head. “Yeah, you’re right. She’s not a firecracker like you though.”

“I’m not even sure what that means, but you can’t label me when you just met me.”

“Oh, like you haven’t labeled me already?”

“I know your kind. I’ve heard plenty about you to form an opinion,” I tell him with purpose.

“God, you’re so hypocritical. You think you’re the first prissy, stick-up-her-ass assistant I’ve met? Doesn’t mean I know you just like it doesn’t mean you know me.

He kinda has a point, but I don’t tell him that. His ego is already taking up all the space in the car.

Ignoring his comment, I focus on driving. We’re in heavy traffic and I’m not used to eight lane highways.

“You better get over,” he says.

“I’m trying.” I look over my shoulder, searching for a spot to move into.

“Might wanna try the blinker. I heard it’s a signal for turning or moving over.”

I sigh and put it on. He’s distracting me.

“Stay quiet so I can focus.”

His chuckles are the last thing I hear from him as I attempt to merge across the lanes. Finally, I make it and we coast down the highway in silence until we’re leaving the city.

“When are we stopping for food?” He speaks up for the first time in hours. I look over at him and see he’s sticking his lower lip, making a pouty face. “I’m shriveling to nothing over here.” He slightly lifts his shirt up and pats his ridiculously cut stomach.

His eyes meet mine, and I quickly look away although he saw me staring. Swallowing, I look at the GPS to see how much further until our first stop.

“We have about an hour left,” I tell him. “Think you’ll manage to stay alive for that long?”

He groans, loudly and it makes me laugh. I quickly catch myself and stop.

“You have a nice laugh. It’s a pleasant change from your short fuse and snarl.”

“I don’t snarl!” I argue. “I just like having a plan and sticking to it.”

He noticeably rolls his eyes. “Okay, Miss Priss. Letting your hair down won’t kill ya.”

“No, but your arrogant, self-absorbed attitude just might,” I throw at him, holding back a smirk.

“Well, I think that’s debatable. Most of the women I date think it’s charming.”

A loud snort bursts out of me, and I’m unable to keep in the laughter this time. “I think that says more about who you’re dating than anything. They must be desperate.”

“Damn, what a burn.” He chuckles. “Adding hostile to your personality resume.”

I inhale a deep breath, realizing that was a really mean thing to say. “Okay, sorry. That wasn’t nice. But I’m not taking back what I said about you. You’re arrogant and there’s no denying that”

“Oh well then thanks, I guess.” He smirks. “You say it like being arrogant is a bad thing though. In my profession, I kinda have to be. I’m constantly selling myself to photographers and showing them I’m worthy of being in their magazines and advertisements. If I don’t act confident and prove I’m the best guy for the gig, I’ll lose it to the thousands of other people pursuing the job.”

I think about his words for a minute. “Okay, well I can certainly understand that. But I think you’re just naturally that way.” I shrug, biting down on my lower lip so he doesn’t see right through me. He has every right to be confident, there’s no doubt about that. He’s got it all—the body, the face, the perfect white teeth and smile. His abs are plastered all over Rachel’s covers and book promo graphics. He even has that annoying muscular V that trails from his hips to down below his waistline. Annoyingly sexy. “However, that doesn’t mean you can’t be humble in other aspects of your life.”

“That’s a pretty big accustation for someone you just met. How do you know I’m not? You haven’t been around me long enough to know anything about me. Don’t you think?”

Damn. He’s right. “Fine. Prove me wrong then.”

Falling for the Playboy is the second book in Bedtime Reads by Kennedy Fox – all these books can be read as standalones and are very quick reads.

As with the first book, this was book was just ok for me – right down the middle. There were parts, I really enjoyed and other parts that I did not care for. I felt certain areas needed fleshed out more to possibly explain dynamics between certain characters. Let me explain myself.

I really enjoyed the idea behind this plot – cover book model and author assistant go from enemies to lovers. I enjoyed how this part of the story plays out. The interactions between Maverick and Olivia are what I loved most about this book and what kept it from getting a lower rating. So you are problably wondering why I didn’t rate it higher if that’s what this book is about. Enter Rachel (no this isn’t a love triangle).

Rachel is the author who Olivia is an assistant/door mat to and also the author of the books that Maverick is the cover model on. I despise Rachel – she is Satan incarnate. She treats Olivia like the gum on her shoe and Olivia just takes it. I hated that. Olivia this great “take no nonsense” attitude and strictly business with Maverick, yet she can’t stand up for herself against her boss. This is where I wish things were fleshed out more and maybe the explanation of dynamics between Olivia and Rachel were explained versus how Olivia is able to have a more stronger hand towards others – I hope that makes sense.

Then there was the ending – I wanted more!!! It wasn’t a terrible ending, I just wish we had more between Rachel and Olivia play out. Again – flesh things out for me.

As I said, I enjoyed the book, the storyline, the dialogue and interactions between Maverick and Olivia – they made the story. So if you can look beyond Rachel and her part in all this, then you will thoroughly enjoy this book. There are a lot of hilarious moments and watching Olivia and Maverick go from standing one another to more was fun to read.

Tequila Tequila by Emma Hart…Blog Tour & Review

TT-Live3.jpg

Tequila + you best friend + your bedroom = um, whoopsie?

Tequila Tequila, an all-new hilarious standalone romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available NOW!

TT-FULL

Don’t sleep with your best friend.

Take it from me. I did it. And it was awful.

I-wish-the-tequila-made-me-forget kind of bad.

The problem is, Luke has forgotten. He swears that he can’t remember a thing about that night beyond the trays of tequila shots being set on the tables.

Except I can’t forget. I can’t forget how good his hands felt until I fell over and hit my hip on the dresser, and I sure as hell can’t forget the entire two minutes of tap-tap-squirt.

Awkward. Embarrassing. And the new subject of a couple of dirty lucid dreams.

But I have no intention of telling him what we did. Nothing good comes from telling your best friend he’s the worst guy you’ve ever slept with.

Which makes the tequila on my birthday a very, very bad idea…

TEQUILA-teaser2-live.jpg

Excerpt:

Have you ever walked into a store and had to ask where the lady section is?”

I paused, my grip on the fridge door firm, and turned to him. I simply blinked. I wasn’t going to justify that with an answer.

“It took three people before a poor woman at the customer service desk took pity on me and walked me to the tampon aisle,” he went on, oblivious to my death stare. “She hovered over me for a second and I started fucking sweating, Aspen. Sweating.”

I bit my lip and moved the ingredients for his sandwich over to the board on the island.

“I almost dropped my phone trying to find the photo you sent me, and when I finally brought it up, I was so fucking confused I stood there like a lame damn duck for five minutes before she came back to help me like she knew I was a total idiot.”

Was it wrong that I was way more amused about this than anything else? A part of me told me I should feel bad, but…

“Did you know there are tons of those things? The boxes are all different. There are different brands. Different sizes. Different… absorbency levels.” He shuddered, his wide, muscled shoulders shaking with his cringey thought. “For flows and stuff.”

“I shop there regularly. I am aware.”

“Not that fucking regularly if you sent me to buy them,” he muttered. “Anyway, the nice lady who was trying her best not to laugh at the idiot in the sanitary products aisle asked me who I was buying them for. My mom, my sister, my girlfriend…”

I chopped the lettuce.

“When I told her it was for my best friend, she looked at me funny for a minute before nodding. Then, she dragged me over to the aisle with the candy and told me that Twizzlers went well with tampons. I was so confused I didn’t question her, so here.” He lifted a small bag from the stool next to him and tossed it in my direction. “You’re the proud owner of eight packets of Twizzlers.”

“Oooh, Twizzlers!” I dropped the knife and dove into the bag, pulling out all the long, red packets. “This is like heaven!”

“Dude.” Luke leaned forward and held his hands out. “My sandwich?”

“Geez, who’s on their period? You or me?” I put the candy down and went back to making his sandwich. “You should have saved the Twizzlers until after you got your food.”

“Rookie mistake.” He shook his head. “Please don’t ever ask me to buy you tampons again. I’m not sure my ego or reputation can take it.”

“Your reputation got shot to shit on your twenty-first when you mooned the mayor in the town square,” I reminded him.

“And I haven’t mooned anyone since,” he replied. “My pants now stay firmly on when I drink.”

I have a confession – Tequila Tequila is my first Emma Hart book. I have seen her books pop up in my feed and even have a few on my TBR list, but none have ever really caught my attention to go and read – don’t ask, I am weird.

However, the blurb on this one caught my attention and figured, I need to finally try this (new to me) author. And boy was I pleasantly and happily surprised. There are only two other authors who have ever made me crack up out loud laughing (sometime snort laughing) while reading and Emma has now added herself to that list.

I love this book so much and not just because it was really freaking hilarious. The surmise is friends to lovers (which I do enjoy reading) but I love Emma’s take on it – it’s how I have always seen these type of romances play out and how natural they are. It’s not your typical one has been pining for the other or anything like that – it’s just dumb luck and fate finally playing out.

I won’t so much more about the plot but I will tell you that main characters, Aspen and Luke, along with all the secondary characters are so amazing and make this story so perfect. I love their interactions and how they are so honest with each other. You can feel the camaraderie float off the pages. I felt like I watching an episode of Friends playing out – just with all new characters in different setting – that’s how loveable these characters are.

Emma you have won yourself another big fan and now I can’t wait to read something else by you!! If you are living under the same rock as I, I urge you to go read this book – you can thank me later. And for anyone who has read Emma before, you know you are already buying this book.

From USA Today Bestselling Author Meghan Quinn, comes a hilarious romantic comedy that will touch your heart and cause you to roar with laughter as you escape into Rosie Bloom’s attempt to write a romance novel.

Her bosom heaved at an alarming rate as his rough hand found its way down to her soft, yet wiry briar patch…

Can you say briar patch in a romance novel? What about breasts? Do bosoms really heave?

Goodness, I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m a virgin attempting to write a romance novel and I’m having an impossible time trying to write a passionate and swoon-worthy sex scene worthy of being published, thanks to my lack of experience.

My two best friends encourage me to drop the pen, step outside my comfort zone, and gain some real life experience through multiple dating facets such as blind dates, online profiles, and random hookups. But losing my virginity is proving to be much tougher than expected…

This is the story of my awkward, humiliating, and slightly terrifying life, but like all romance novels, I know it will end in a happily ever after. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.

Cover Reveal…Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey

R.S. Grey’s next romantic comedy, HOTSHOT DOC, releases December 6th! Check out the cover and find out more about HOTSHOT DOC below!

About HOTSHOT DOC (available December 6th)

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s-ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway…half-hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine.

I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the storage closet. (Well, no more of those.)

What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?

Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

Add HOTSHOT DOC to your Goodreads list here!

HOTSHOT DOC releases December 6th – you’ll be able to preorder your copy for .99c starting December 3rd!

Love Sincerely Yours by Sara Ney & Meghan Quinn…Blog Tour & Review

Dear Mister…**strike out** no, too formal.

Hey there sweet cheeks *strike out* no, too forward.

To whom it may concern,

Full disclosure; before we move forward with this email, I would like it to be known that I have consumed an adequate amount of alcoholic beverages to intoxicate myself tonight. Three margaritas, two shots, and one beer—because it was free.

I think it’s important to be open and honest with your co-workers, don’t you?

So here I am, being honest. Drunk but honest. Or just drunk with lust? You decide.

I like you so much it’s clouding my judgment and making me do things I never would sober. Like write this letter.

I have a hopeless, foolish, schoolgirl crush on you when you are the last person on earth I should be falling for. Did you know people around the office call you a sadist? An egomaniac. An insensitive, arrogant prick. Your bark is worse then your bite, and you don’t scare me. The fact is, I’d love that bite of yours to nip at my bare skin while we’re both wearing nothing but sheets.

For once I want you to look at me as more than one of your employees.

And as long as we’re being honest, that navy blue suit you wear? With the crisp white shirt? It really makes me want to loosen your tie and show you who’s boss.

Love,

Sincerely,

Yours.

I open the company messenger app on my phone and scroll through the executive names, knowing full well I’m about to break a policy. It’s the company’s phone, and the company’s app, and I’m about to use it for personal use. To flirt.

With my boss.

I close my eyes, find his name—next to it is a little, green dot, which means. . .

He’s on the app.

I’ve never talked to him live before so this is a huge step, but then again, it might be more fun to get his initial reactions to my comments.

Debating it for all but two seconds, I type out a message to him, making sure I’m signed on under my LSY persona.

HandsRomingMyBody: Hey you.

My text turns into a new message on the app and I wait on bated breath to see if he will respond. Nerves prickle up my spine, my fingers feeling numb, my mind playing mutiny with my heart just as little dots appear letting me know he’s typing.

Oh God, I don’t think I’ve been more excited.

Two of my favorite authors coming together to co-write a book together – I don’t even the need the blurb, I am ALL IN!!!

I knew this was an office romance from the teasers that I have seen, but I never read the blurb for this so I quite surprised with how this played out. I expected one thing and got another, which was fine by me.

This office romance plays out in emails that were quite entertaining to read. Peyton knows how everyone sees their boss but she sees something more in him. Her anonymous email in a drunken state was hilarious and definitely caught the boss off guard. So much so, that he decides to reply.

Rome isn’t sure what to make of this back and forth but this mysterious woman has definitely intrigued him. She brings out a side in him that most don’t see. Regardless of the niggling in his brain that this could be something else, he continues to respond.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. I am usually pretty good with deciphering which author which wrote character but for once, this one blended well as if only one author wrote the book. I enjoyed the back and worth between Peyton and Rome and the blending of their personalities. While I found myself not connecting to them really well, I still enjoyed the story.

In the end, this was hilarious and enjoyable read. I look forward to many more book by Meghan and Sara.

Like a goddamn ray of sunshine, light streaming behind her from the window, a halo shining above her pretty head.

Her lying, beautiful head.

Dark hair, wavy and glossy, down around her shoulders, the rich color picking up red from the sun.

She’s holding a glass—it’s poised at her lips and she’s about to take a sip—when our eyes meet. She lowers it, her mouth parts, and her smile spreads.

Until I scowl. Then, her face morphs from happy to concerned in a second. Damn right she should be concerned.

I nod.

She nods.

My eyes trail down the front of her and I note her dress—it’s baby blue, wrapped and tied at the waist, and shows off her curves while highlighting her legs in those sexy-as-shit heels.

Stop thinking about her curves and legs. You’re not here to admire her.

The pile of gifts in the corner pisses me off, bringing me back into the present, back to my rage, and has me lifting my arm; crooking my finger.

Peyton’s brows go up at the same time her head cocks and she pokes a finger into her own chest. “Me?”

“Yeah. You.” I know she can’t hear me, but I say it anyway—and if she’s any good at reading lips, she’ll haul her ass over here right quick.

Her cup is passed. Skirt gets smoothed out. Chin tilts high.

She heads over.

Good girl.

“Follow me,” I order her when we’re on the outskirts of the room. When we’re clear across the office common area, I pivot to face her.

She’s shorter, even in heels, so I have to dip my head to glare at her. “Want to tell me exactly what the fuck is going on in there?”

Excerpt:

He’s tall, lean, and muscular in track pants and a long-sleeved tee underneath a glow-in-the-dark skeleton-adorned apron. Jet-black hair, mussed across his forehead. Even under the darkening sky, I can tell he has deep olive-toned skin. His eyes, I’m not quite sure. Maybe dark.

I feel my feet walking toward the object of my desire, but suddenly halt them.

Whoa, horsie.

For a second, my brain kicks in and I take stock of my disheveled appearance. This isn’t how I want to meet the man I’ve internet-stalked for a week. The man my brother-in-law wants to emulate, supposedly to win the heart of an overeager preschool teacher. The man who grills shirtless and does it oh-so-well. Just yesterday, he made rosemary-and-thyme veal chops. I don’t believe in eating veal, have never even tried it, and I was salivating over my laptop.

Reid, Grill and Groom, whatever his last name is, doesn’t hide behind the anonymity of his laptop. Nope, he’s right out on the wild, wild web for anyone to see.

This man is everything I’m not. He writes a successful blog, puts his name out there. And now he’s standing a few feet from me, joking with my daughter and her friend like he has nothing better to do and all the time in the world to do it.

“Mom! Can we have two?”

“Ms. Andi, this guy said we could have two big bars! Can we?”

“Hey there . . .”

Three voices call to me, but I’m stuck in Reidville, the small town that had only just begun to grow in my mind. Not the real, live man currently calling out, “Hey there,” to me.

“Mom!” Gabby shouts, finally dragging me out of a dense mental fog.

“Um, are you sure?” I holler from where I’m standing, because there’s no way in hell I’m allowing myself to move any closer to the door.

“It’s no prob. Evening’s almost over, and I don’t want to be stuck with all this leftover candy,” Reid yells back.

He’s tall. I’m guessing six foot two or three based on the way he towers over the girls and his head almost meets the top of the door frame.

“Make sure to say thanks,” I tell the girls, my voice squeaking, the stupid crumpled coffee cup dangling in my hand.

“Would you like one?”

Reid, Reid, Reid, just let me get out of here alive with my limbs attached and my lungs still pumping air in and out.

But no, he can’t. The girls sing, “Thank you,” and he’s following them out to me, candy basket in hand.

I fight the urge to sniff under my pits again, but I can’t seem to stop my free hand from smoothing down the front of my shirt and gathering my cardigan tight across my belly. It’s flatter than most, but still—I’ve had a baby.

“Would you like one? To go with your coffee?” He’s dead center now, right in front of me, wearing flip-flops despite the chilly nighttime air, holding the basket with his strong hands I’ve seen pictured on the blog, working the grill.

I’m not gonna lie. I’ve fantasized about those hands working me . . . just about everywhere. Okay, everywhere.

I admit it. I ended up perusing this guy’s site more than I care to say.

Green. His eyes are dark green, deep like the forest, clear like the sea, inviting like a patch of moss.

A frog settles in my throat, and I can’t make a sound for fear it will alas be a croak.

I shake my head and clear my throat, banishing the toad. “Tempting, but no thanks.”

“Actually, I really do have apples, if that’s more appealing.” He cocks an eyebrow at me, light from the rising moon twinkling in his eyes.

Reid, Reid, Reid, go back to your grill.

I am a big fan of Rachel’s work. The premise for this book is what really hooked me.

I love that Andi is critical in her blog in that she is voices what everyone else is thinking about these other bloggers but she does it anonymously. Reid has his own blog, which started off as a dare, for grilling and grooming.

These two come across one another in unexpected ways, except Reid only knows her Andi, the single mom “medical transcriptionist” and not the UAB (UnAaffectionate Blogger). Their interactions are feel real and the move at a decent pace for them.

The parts that really annoyed me was Andi keeping her blogging a secret from Reid for most of the book – still don’t get why that was such a big deal for her – and how Reid reacted when she finally came out with the secret.

Aside, from those two things, the book was enjoyable. The banter and witty comments were enjoyable and helped keep the story from feeling too blah. While I enjoyed it the for the most part, there wasn’t anything that really wow’d me and had me really loving it, hence the 3 star.

Hot For His Girl is a cute and sweet read that you’ll breeze through and feel lighter after reading it.

A recent poll of her readers described her as insightful, generous, articulate, and spunky. Originally a social worker, Rachel creates broken yet redeeming characters. She’s been known to turn up the angst like cranking up the heat in the dead of winter.

As a side note, Blaufeld, also a long-time blogger and an advocate of woman-run anything, is fearless about sharing her opinion. She captured the ears of stay-at-home and working moms on her blog, BacknGrooveMom, chronicling her adventures in parenting tweens and running a business, often at the same time. When she isn’t writing, she can be found courtside, tweeting about hoops as her son plays, or walking around the house wearing earplugs while her other son, the drummer, bangs away.
