Synopsis:

Kitty was not only beautiful but also incredibly intelligent—except when it came to relationships. It seemed if a guy was a loser, corrupt, deadbeat or unavailable, she was completely and utterly attracted to him. She definitely had a “type,” and all of them had been one bad decision after another.

Dallas had trouble of his own. Finding women wasn’t a problem—he could charm the pants off almost anyone—but most of those “pantless” women ended up being a few bananas short of a fruit basket. Not always the best candidates for his sex-without-strings philosophy. He was one date away from ending up a 60 Minutes special.

While both of them were at the top of their game professionally—she a high-powered executive assistant, and he one of the best tattooists in the city—their personal lives had become a dumpster fire.

No one in their right mind would have suggested they join forces to help each other wade through the crazy. Surely that was a recipe for disaster? But without reason, logic or even sanity on their side, they decided to do it anyway.

It was a hot mess primed for a head-on collision.

Soooo….I have only read one of Tina Gephart’s books in the past. And honestly, I can’t remember anything about that book – I know, not good. Sorry, Tina!!! BUT, with this book, that won’t happen.

Car Crash is the second book in her Collision series but can be read as a standalone. I did not read the first book in this series and was not lost at all. I am going to assume the secondary characters mentioned in this book were from the first one, but again, nothing was confusing or deterred from this book’s story.

While Car Crash did not really “WOW” me, it was a good read. Yes, it took me longer than it should have to read, but that’s because my mind was on other things going on in my life and it was hard to focus on reading. So I took that into consideration as to why it took so long to read, but it also did not hold that appeal that I HAD to see what was going to happen next. SO there’s that too to consider.

Dallas and Kitty are two interesting characters. I love that they own who they are, don’t apologize for it. They know their best qualities and not-so-best qualities but that’s what makes them unique. They don’t allow society to dictate who they should be.

Car Crash is another slow-burn read but it helps shows the build-up between these two and how they are able to go from acquaintances to friends to eventually more. Their interactions are so natural, it’s easy to picture everything playing out.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It may have taken me longer than normal to read this one, but the story itself was still entertaining with characters who felt real and honest. I am definitely going to go back and read the first book, which I did purchase after reading this one.

The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald…Review

Synopsis:

In the vein of Big Little Lies and Reconstructing Amelia comes an emotionally charged domestic suspense novel about a mother unraveling the truth behind how her daughter became brain dead. And pregnant.

A search for the truth. A lifetime of lies.

In the small hours of the morning, Abi Knight is startled awake by the phone call no mother ever wants to get: her teenage daughter Olivia has fallen off a bridge. Not only is Olivia brain dead, she’s pregnant and must remain on life support to keep her baby alive. And then Abi sees the angry bruises circling Olivia’s wrists.

When the police unexpectedly rule Olivia’s fall an accident, Abi decides to find out what really happened that night. Heartbroken and grieving, she unravels the threads of her daughter’s life. Was Olivia’s fall an accident? Or something far more sinister?

Christina McDonald weaves a suspenseful and heartwrenching tale of hidden relationships, devastating lies, and the power of a mother’s love. With flashbacks of Olivia’s own resolve to uncover family secrets, this taut and emotional novel asks: how well do you know your children? And how well do they know you?

My Review:

The Night Olivia Fell is the debut work from author Christina McDonald and I have to say, this being a debut makes me excited to see what’s in store for us in the future from Ms. McDonald because this story was fantastic.

I have to start out by saying this genre is quickly becoming one of my go-to’s when I’m looking for something outside of romance.  This story had me glued to every page, dying to solve the mystery of what happened to Olivia.  The author did a fabulous job leading us down the path to unraveling the mystery behind Olivia’s accident.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the dual POV’s and the story being told from both Abi and Olivia’s eyes.   The other layer of this book was the emotion weaved through it.  At the end of the day, it’s a single mother’s quest to find out what happened to her only child and how they got to be where they were.  That added so much to this story and made it so much more than a “whodunnit” book.

Thank you, Ms. McDonald, for a thrilling read I won’t soon forget!

Sexy Little Sinner, a sexy, new standalone from New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner, is available now!

Sexy Little Sinner_ebook_1707x2500

It was wrong to stay together … but we couldn’t stay apart.

I’ve been with my share of women, but none touched my heart and fired my senses the way she did. Her smile enticed me. Her caresses teased me. Her body aroused me.

And yet, it couldn’t last. There were too many years between us. A gap we couldn’t breach, and we broke it off. No. I broke it off. And I’ve regretted that decision ever since.

Now she’s in danger, and there’s no one else I trust to protect her. But the more time we spend together, the more I want her back. And all I know now is I have to keep her safe—and despite both of us knowing better, somehow, someway, she will be mine again.

Excerpt:

I’m so completely screwed.

The thought rattles around in my head, and I try to shove it away. Smother it. Silence it. Because that really isn’t the kind of thought a guy wants screaming at him while his tongue is in a woman’s mouth. Or when her hot, little body is writhing against him. Or when his cock is harder than he thought possible and all he can think about is sliding his hands up her thighs and under her skirt, then ripping off her panties and letting her ride him until they both see stars.

But, dammit, the thought looms: Screwed. Totally, completely, one-hundred-percent screwed.

Because this woman is off-limits to me. Big time. No excuses. Hands-off territory.

Not that you could tell from a snapshot of the moment, because now I’ve got my hand on her breast, and she’s arching back as I use my thumb and forefinger to tease her nipple while she bites her lower lip and makes that sexy little whimpering sound that used to drive me wild.

Apparently it still does.

Did I mention that I’m screwed?

I break the kiss, knowing we both need to take a few deep breaths, otherwise I’ll end up fucking her right here against the washing machine, the smell of fabric softener mixing with the scent of sex and desire as I claim her fast and hard, just the way I want to. The way I know she wants me to.

“Connor, please.”

My name on her lips is a demand, and so help me I give in, claiming her mouth with my own. Anything to sneak in a few more moments of stolen bliss.

“Oh, hell, yes,” she murmurs as she tightens her fingers in my hair. Then she practically crawls up my body, releasing her grip only long enough to settle her ass on the washer lid so that she can wrap her legs around my waist.

One of my hands cups the back of her neck, but the other is on the smooth skin of her thigh, and as I briefly open my eyes, I see that her skirt has ridden up high enough to reveal a swatch of pink panties, a dark spot revealing just how wet she is.

I groan—could the woman torture me any more?—and force myself not to slide my finger up her thigh even though all I can think about is the way she’d feel naked and beneath me, her pussy hot and slick and tight as I thrust inside her.

I recall the way she bites her lower lip when she’s about to come. The way her body would tighten around me, as if she could pop me like an overripe cherry.

I remember the way it feels to explode inside her, and then pull her close and breathe in the fresh, clean scent of her hair as we both drift off to sleep, her skin warm and soft against mine.

Oh, holy hell…I’m not just screwed. I’m fucked.

Completely and totally fucked.

Because this woman is my best friend’s little sister.

Sooooo……if you are like me and did not read the first two books in this series (don’t ask me how that is possible) – don’t worry – this can be read as a standalone!!

I won’t say anything about the story because you pretty much get the gist from the blurb. However, I will let you know what I felt while reading this book.

First off, had I not seen this was a part of series, I would not have known. There are obviously secondary characters, so that would have been my only clue that there could be possible other books, but this story read extremely well as a standalone.

Sexy Little Sinner is a fast paced and short romance with a dash of suspense added in to keep the book from being all romance. If you have ever wanted to give J. Kenner’s books a try, this is definitely one I would recommend to see what the excitement is all about.

J. Kenner delivers a packed story in small little package without hurting any of the details in the process. You can see where she could have easily expand upon things if she wanted, but what she did write was perfect to give the readers the notion of what was going on.

Now I must go back and read the other two because I feel like a failure fan for somehow not reading them earlier and also because I really need to see how the other characters came to be.

About J. Kenner

Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and #1 International bestselling author of over one hundred novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them.” A six time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy) and in 2017 for Wicked Dirty in the same category. One hot mess. One hot boss. One too many hot encounters…

Catastrophe Queen, an all-new hilarious office romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

cq-cover3.3

It’s not you. It’s me.

No, seriously. It is me. Not only does my name literally mean “unfortunate,” but that’s the story of my life.

Everything I touch turns to cr*p. An apartment fire—that I swear I was not responsible for—means I’m living back at home with my s*x-mad parents. Yay, me!

Which is why I need my new job as personal assistant to Cameron Reid to get back on my feet. Three months in this job and I can move back out and, hopefully, remember to turn off my flat iron once in a while.

Ahem.

On paper, my job is easy. Make coffee. Book appointments. Keep everything in order.

Until I walk in on my boss, half-naked, wearing nothing but the kind of tiny white towel that dreams are made of.

Now, nothing is easy—except our mutual attraction. But he’s my boss, and you know what they say about mixing work and pleasure: unless you do p*rn, it’s just not worth it.

Or is it?

Excerpt:

I took my coffee from the counter and scanned the room for an empty table. There wasn’t one, which killed my chances of wasting more time before I went home.

With a sigh, I checked my phone for the time and headed for the door. I was going to end up at home earlier than I’d planned, and I needed to check with my mom to make sure there wasn’t anything kinky happening somewhere in the house.

I’d considered bleaching my eyes enough in the last few weeks, thank you.

I was fairly sure I was safe because my grandfather and great aunt were coming to stay to celebrate Grandpa’s eightieth birthday. It was still a miracle my exhibitionist mother shared DNA with either of them. Unlike her, they were reserved, polite, and didn’t flash their flesh in the hopes of getting out of a speeding ticket.

Really, it was no wonder I was a walking disaster.

I pulled up my messages and clicked on my mom’s name. My thumb was poised to type the burning question of whether or not it was safe to come home when I glanced up.

And saw the car screeching to a stop, mere inches from me.

I screamed and stepped back. My heel caught on the curb, sending me toppling backward, and both my coffee and phone went flying. My cup slammed against the sidewalk, splattering hot liquid everywhere right as I managed to save my phone from certain death by concrete.

My heart was beating so fast it should have exploded, and adrenaline raced through my veins. I gripped my phone against me so tightly that the edges pressed painfully into my skin.

Oh my God.

I’d just almost died.

Maybe slightly dramatic, but I probably wasn’t far wrong. I didn’t even know I’d stepped into the road. When had that happened? Had I really been in that deep into my own little world that I hadn’t even checked for traffic?

Dear God.

How was I still alive?

The back door to the sleek, black car that somehow hadn’t run me over swung open. From my vantage position on the sidewalk, the first thing I saw was a pair of shiny, black shoes attached to legs wearing perfectly-pressed, light gray dress pants.

I dragged my gaze up from the feet, over the door of the perfectly clean car, and stared at the most beautiful man known to humankind.

Thick, dark, wavy hair covered his head, curling over his ears. Lashes the same dark shade of brown framed impossibly bright-blue eyes that regarded me with a mixture of shock and concern, and my ovaries about exploded when he rubbed a large hand over full pink lips and a stubbled, strong jaw.

“Miss—I’m so sorry. Are you okay?”

Scrambling to my feet as he approached me, I tugged down the leg of my pants and grabbed my pursed. “Yes. I mean—it was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry.”

He let go of the car door, showing broad shoulders and just how well that gray suit was tailored to him, and picked up my coffee cup. “All the same, I think we can share blame. Are you sure you’re not hurt?”

Just my dignity, and by this point, I was running low on it anyway.

I shifted, taking a step back. “I’m fine, really. Thank you.”

“Can I replace your coffee? Give you a ride anyway to apologize?” His expression was so earnest, his concern so genuine that I almost gave in.

Almost.

I had almost walked into the front of his car, then proceeded to embarrass myself in front of everyone on the street.

“No, no, it’s fine. I’m not far from home.” I clutched my phone and purse straps a little harder. “Again, thank you, but I should be going.”

He nodded as if he understood. “Uh, miss? Did you drop something there?”

My eyes followed the direction Mr. Dreamboat was pointing. On the side of the road, tucked against the curb, was a pair of white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.

My white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.

Swallowing, I met his bright eyes and shook my head. Dear God, please don’t let me blush. “No. I’ve never seen them before.” I backed up a little more. “Thank you for not running me over.”

Mr. Dreamboat grinned, his eyes brightening with his smile. “I’d never be able to forgive myself if I’d been responsible for running over someone as beautiful as you.” He glanced toward my panties, then winked at me.

There was no doubting that I was blushing this time around.

You could fry eggs on my cheeks.

So I did the only thing any self-respecting, twenty-five-year-old woman who’d just almost been run over, tripped, and dropped her dirty panties could do.

I ran.

But only like two blocks, because I was in heels, and I had the fitness levels of a hippo.

Then I grabbed a cab.

Catastrophe Queen is a quirky and sweet office romance with a nice slow burn.

Emma plays this story out perfectly. Nothing is too rushed, but you can sense the mutual attraction between the two. I love how their relationship develops over time and things aren’t rushed.

I really enjoyed reading about Mallory’s mishaps and her clumsy tendencies but what I loved most was Cameron and his family. Emma paints them in a sweet light and it just makes them all the more enjoyable to read. And Mallory’s family is a hoot; as much as they bicker, they were very entertaining.

Overall, this whole book was extremely enjoyable to read. I love the characters, the plot line and the overall vibe of this book.

I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a great romance!!

Release Day Blitz & Review….Falling For The Cowboy by Kennedy Fox

Never trust a man who wears nothing more than a cowboy hat and ripped jeans who asks if you’d like to save a horse and ride a . . . well, you get the picture.

That should’ve been enough for me to walk away.

I’ve been warned on several occasions about southern men—with their sexy accents, charming manners, and the ability to easily get any woman in bed—which is something I’ll be avoiding.

Being a professional photographer has many perks—traveling around the world, calling all the shots, and working with subject matter that isn’t bad to look at—but Colton Langston with his washboard abs and baby blue eyes, could care less about my current project. He’s trouble, I know it, and he’s determined to make me work for every single photo. When I’m forced into riding lessons, I get way more than I ever bargained for, and by the time my trip is over, I’m in too deep.

Being with him was thrilling, but falling for him was unpredictable.
And ignoring him will be impossible.

Falling for the Cowboy is my favorite book in this series so far!!

Kennedy Fox returns to the Circle B and I could not be happier to see the Bishop brothers again. Don’t worry, if you didn’t read that series, nothing is really given away and does not take away from this story either. This can be read as a complete standalone.

This story will be every Bookstagrammer’s (who is single) dream!!! Presley is living her dream – she’s a photographer and gets to travel everywhere for her shots; she shoots for book covers, author pics, and does her own shots on the side for her bookstagram accounts.

Presley is on location at the Circle B for her next project when she and Colton have their first run-in. Presely was already warned about the Cowboy Casanovas so she’s already on high alert when Colton tries to flirt with her. However, as much as they rag on one another, their chemistry is impossible to miss.

I am usually a hard one to win over when it comes to quick romances. It takes a lot for me to see how the characters don’t confuse lust with love but in this particular story, these ladies nail it. The ease and natural interactions between Colton and Presley are hard to miss, so it only seems natural how things progress, even in their short time together.

I love how everything played out and I am really looking forward to the next book in this series!

Imogen

There is no way we can still love and cherish one and other.

When I married Theo Walsh, the rough, bearded townie who worked construction on my family’s summer house, I’d found my happily ever after.

That was before the fighting.
Before the jealousy.
Before the infertility.

We’ll be divorced long before death does us part.

But to secure my place in the family dynasty, there is just one more hoop I have to jump through. And I need him to do it.

Faking the marriage we once thrived in will gut me.
Especially with the secret I’m carrying.

Theo

I would have sacrificed for her until the end of time.

My job.
My home.
My happiness.

I’d given it all up to marry her. That’s how much I loved Imogen Weston, the daughter to one of the world’s richest families.

From the day we met, I’d done nothing but try to live up to the man she expected to be with. And now, I was done.

Sure, I’d complete this one final ask of hers, even if it destroyed me.

But I’ve made her promise the one thing that might save me. She swore that after she got everything she ever wanted, she wouldn’t look back.

I made my wife vow to leave me forever.

Down We’ll Come, Baby is a super sweet contemporary romance with very little angst and drama.

Carrie delivers a sweet and romantic story starring Theo and Imogen (love these names). I have to say, the way this started off, I was expecting more drama than we got, but I surprisingly enjoyed the path this story went.

Imogen and Theo come from two different worlds and they truly believe that their love would conquer anything thrown in their path. That is until life took them down a path they had not anticipated.

Down We’ll Come, Baby really shows that no matter how strong you think your bond is, how strong your love is, there is always something that can root deep inside you and cause even the strongest relationships to crack and crumble, if not handled properly.

As I said, this book took a direction I had not expected. There was not a whole lot of drama, but it held a lot of climatic points that kept the story moving and interesting. Theo and Imogen learn about themselves and each other as the story progresses. I love how Carrie blends the inner dialogue with each character into this story so you have a better understanding of their actions but it never takes away from the story line.

I enjoyed reading this as it was very easy yet held my attention. Definitely a great read for romance lovers.

We Shouldn’t by Vi Keeland…Review

WeShouldnt_Title

A Standalone Contemporary Romance

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author Vi Keeland

we shouldn't live now square

SYNOPSIS:

Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning.

I was late for the first day at my new job—a job I’d now have to compete for even though I’d already worked eight years to earn it, because of an unexpected merger.

While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons.

She’d ticketed a long line of cars—except for the Audi parked in front of me, which happened to be the same make and model as mine.

Annoyed, I decided to regift my ticket to the car that had evaded a fine. Chances were, the owner would pay it and be none the wiser.

Except, I accidentally broke the windshield wiper while slipping the ticket onto the car’s window.

Seriously, my day couldn’t get any worse.

Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the elevator. We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies.

You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity.

His heated stare left me flushed when I stepped off the elevator.

Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Or so I thought.

Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competition.

The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heated stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction. It was because he’d seen me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival.

There’s a fine line between love and hate—and we shouldn’t cross it.

We shouldn’t—but straddling that line could be so much fun.

we shouldn't release day live now banner

My Review:

What are the things Vi Keeland does best in every book?  A sexy hero with a vulnerable side,  a sassy and damn like-able heroine, delicious banter between the two, and off the charts heated moments.

This book was no exception and had me glued to every page.

I’m a sucker for an enemies to lovers story and Bennett and Annalise were all that and a bag of chips.  From their very first meeting, I knew the sparks would fly and their connection would be unbreakable.  Of course, Ms. Keeland always adds a heaping spoonful of emotion with her characters and that only adds to the dynamic between these two characters.

Once again, Ms. Keeland nails it!  I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!

Release Day Blitz & Review….Fool Me Once by Nicole Williams

AP new - synopsis.jpg

Second chances are for kids, diets, and shelter pets—not for relationships. Especially not one like Chase and Emma’s.

Before he was writing chart-topping hits and smashing record sales, Chase Lawson was Emma’s childhood friend and first love. They promised each other forever, but forever expired at eighteen, when he landed a major record deal and left Emma and their hometown behind.

Ten years later, he shows up at their high school reunion with a proposition she can’t refuse. Six months. Seven figures. He gets a chance to clean up his reputation, and she gets the means to restore the old family farmhouse. It’s only for show—hold hands in public, kiss for the cameras—but boundaries blur behind closed doors.

It isn’t long before Emma feels her resolve slipping, crushed by the shadow of the boy she grew to love in the man selling out stadiums of present. Can Emma resist one of the most irresistible bachelors in the world? Or will she fall for the same man twice?

“We’ve got to go over something first,” he said, smirking at my efforts to budge his arm.
“What?” I asked, annoyed.
“We’re going to be a couple in the public’s eyes. Which means we’re going to have to do certain things that couples do.”
I blinked at him. “Couples don’t do that in public. At least not the normal ones.”
He gave a grunt of disbelief. “I’m not talking about sex.”
“Then what are you talking about?” My voice was rising the more flustered I became. The lack of apparel, the warm water, the way Chase’s brown eyes seemed to melt when he looked at me a certain way . . . I was struggling to keep my composure.
“Kissing.” He shrugged as though it were obvious. “We’ve had ten years to get rusty. We don’t want to look like a couple of fumbling amateurs when we kiss in public for the first time.”
My mouth fell open a little as I tried to determine if he was serious. “Kissing is like riding a bike. We don’t need to practice to get it right.”
The corners of Chase’s eyes creased. “It’s more like riding a unicycle. Once you figure it out, with enough consistency, no problem. But if you go a decade without climbing on that unicycle, you’re starting right back at square one.”
I had to bite the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing. “You’re comparing kissing to a unicycle. You’re just as romantic as I remember.”
Chase treaded closer until my legs were brushing against his with each kick. “Come on. One kiss. Practice makes perfect.” His arms drew in, entombing me in his presence. One brow carved into his forehead. “That is, unless you’re scared to kiss me in private, half-naked in a swimming pool, because you still harbor some kind of feelings for me . . .”
I shoved his chest as a snap reaction, realizing too late that I should not touch him when he was this close, when I was this conflicted. “Fame has really gone to your head.”
His shoulders rose above the water before dipping below again. “So? Prove me wrong.”
“Fine.” The word materialized on its own. “But if you even try slipping me tongue, my knee is winding up in your groin.”
He wet his lips, fighting a smile. “When have I ever complained about any part of you nestling down there?”
My hands balled at my sides as I attempted to approach this whole thing like a science experiment. Objectively. Neutrally. Emotionlessly. “Just kiss me and get it over with.”
His smile quirked. “Once you’re finished whispering sweet nothings into my ear.”
When I tried to push him away, his hands circled my wrists. Chase’s eyes found mine, the color of his irises nearly indistinguishable from his pupils. My chest moved quickly when he swam closer, his head angling as his lips aligned with mine.
He hadn’t even kissed me and I’d lost all sense of direction. Up was as good as down in my present state. His breath fanned across my lips as he waited, perfectly at ease having me trapped in the corner of his pool, our mouths a sliver of air apart.
His grip on my wrists relaxed right before his mouth finally connected with mine. My body froze the instant he kissed me, but it didn’t last long, seeming to melt one piece at a time.
I didn’t realize I was sinking until Chase’s arm cinched around me, pulling my shoulders back above the water, his mouth not missing a beat. The last piece of me to unthaw was my lips, but the moment they did, they matched his urgency. My arms wound behind his neck as I drew closer, our bodies tangling beneath the water as he kissed me in a way I hadn’t been kissed in years; in the kind of way that made a girl feel delicate and invincible at the same time.
Chase treaded water, holding us both above the surface, the planes of his chest rising to meet mine with our uneven breaths. Before I knew it, our tongues were tying together, though it wasn’t him who’d broken that rule first. His chest rumbled against mine as my mouth and hands grew more feverish, no longer under the constraint of my better judgment.
Kissing Chase was exactly as I remembered, yet totally different. The scrape of his calloused fingers against my skin felt the same, yet there was a newfound strength to it. His full lips moved with mine in a dance we’d mastered years ago, but there was a resolve I’d never tasted so deeply before. The way he held me was exactly the same, though the contours of his body had changed.
When my chest was hammering from breathlessness, Chase broke the kiss, managing to evade my ensuing advances. His eyes remained closed for a minute, droplets of water winding down his face from where my hands had been.
When his eyes finally opened, the look in them made my head dizzy, even as I reminded myself this had been a practice kiss. Nothing more.
“How was that?” he asked.
I had to look away in order to make my answer seem convincing. My shoulder lifted out of the water as I shaped my most detached expression. “You were right. Like riding a unicycle.”
“No, you were right.” Chase’s hand drifted up my back, his rough fingertips somehow soft against my skin. “Kissing you is like riding a bicycle.”

Fool Me Once is a sweet second-chance romance with little drama.

I am not usually a huge fan of books that don’t give have a lot of angst or drama to fuel the story but with this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it. And that has everything to do with Nicole’s writing.

Chase and Emma were high school sweethearts before Chase left Emma behind to go after his dreams. Ten years later, he’s back, hoping to clean up his image with the help of his former love.

I really enjoyed how Nicole wrote this story. Nicole just lets everything play out naturally and I love that there is no drama or secret pining between the two of them. You know there was chemistry before and just because he upped an left, doesn’t mean that chemistry died.

Chase holds nothing back from Emma and while Emma tires to stick to the deal they made, you can see that she does struggle with her emotions. I know that Emma wants to protect herself from being hurt again but what I love most is Chase’s determination to win her over.

Overall, another great book from Nicole. Even though is a sweet romance with very little angst, it’s her characters and her writing style that make this story stand out from the rest.

Blurb
They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.

Two men.

Three lives.

Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

Excerpt
“Are you sure you’re on my card?” I turned to the man with a polite yet distant smile. I was still disoriented from the exchange with Angelo when the stranger pulled me against his hard body and pressed a possessive hand lower than socially acceptable on my back, a second from groping my butt.

“Answer me,” I hissed.

“My bid on your card was the highest,” he replied dryly.

“The bids are undisclosed. You don’t know how much other people have paid,” I kept my lips pursed to keep myself from yelling.

“I know it’s nowhere near the realm of what this dance is worth.”

Un-freaking-believable.

We began to waltz around the room as other couples were not only spinning and mingling but also stealing envious glances at us. Naked, raw ogles that told me that whomever the blonde he’d come to the masquerade with was, she wasn’t his wife. And that I might have been all the rage in The Outfit, but the rude man was in high demand, too.

I was stiff and cold in his arms, but he didn’t seem to notice—or mind. He knew how to waltz better than most men, but he was technical, and lacked warmth and Angelo’s playfulness.

“Nemesis.” He took me by surprise, his rapacious gaze stripping me bare. “Distributing glee and dealing misery. Seems at odds with the submissive girl who entertained Bishop and his horsey wife at the table.”

I choked on my own saliva. Did he just call the governor’s wife horsey? And me submissive? I looked away, ignoring the addictive scent of his cologne, and the way his marble body felt against mine.

“Nemesis is my spirit animal. She was the one to lure Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and died of vanity. Pride is a terrible illness.” I flashed him a taunting smirk.

“Some of us could use catching it.” He bared his straight white teeth.

“Arrogance is a disease. Compassion is the cure. Most gods didn’t like Nemesis, but that’s because she had a backbone.”

“Do you?” He arched a dark eyebrow.

“Do I…?” I blinked, the courteous grin on my face crumpling. He was even ruder when we were alone.

“Have a backbone,” he provided. He stared at me so boldly and intimately, it felt like he breathed fire into my soul. I wanted to step out of his touch and jump into a pool full of ice.

“Of course, I do,” I responded, my spine stiffening. “What’s with the manners? Were you raised by wild coyotes?”

“Give me an example,” he said, ignoring my quip. I was beginning to draw away from him, but he jerked me back into his arms. The glitzy ballroom distorted into a backdrop, and even though I was starting to notice that the man behind the demi-mask was unusually beautiful, the ugliness of his behavior was the only thing that stood out.

I am a warrior and a lady…and a sane person who can deal with this horrid man.

“I really like Angelo Bandini.” I dropped my voice, slicing my gaze from his eyes and toward the table where Angelo’s family had been seated. My father was sitting a few seats away, staring at us coldly, surrounded by Made Men who chatted away.

“And see, in my family, we have a tradition dating back ten generations. Prior to her wedding, a Rossi bride is to open a wooden chest—carved and made by a witch who lived in my ancestors’ Italian village—and read three notes written to her by the last Rossi girl to marry. It’s kind of a good luck charm mixed with a talisman and a bit of fortunetelling. I stole the chest tonight and opened one of the notes, all so I could rush fate. It said that tonight I was going to be kissed by the love of my life, and well…” I drew my lower lip into my mouth and sucked it, peering under my eyelashes at Angelo’s empty seat. The man stared at me stoically, as though I was a foreign film he couldn’t understand. “I’m going to kiss him tonight.”

“That’s your backbone?”

“When I have an ambition, I go for it.”

A conceited frown crinkled his mask, as if to say I was a complete and utter moron. I looked him straight in the eye. My father taught me that the best way to deal with men like him was to confront, not run. Because, this man? He’d chase.

The Kiss Thief is my first Leigh Shen book – yea, yea – I’ve been living under a rock before now. LOL

TKT is written both POVs from both Francesca and Wolfe, which really helped drive the story. The story was more enjoyable being able to understand things from both sides and both POVs and not just a one-sided story.

Francesca (Nemesis) was raised in very strict and dominating family – nothing she saw wrong with. Her father is the leader of The Outfit and their are traditions in their family that, while they seem dated, are followed impeccably by all.

Senator Wolfe Keaton (Villain) has a hard-on for bringing down Francesca’s father and his business. He is willing to stop at nothing to bring it all down. However, he has a few other things up his sleeve first.

I won’t go into the plot or details of this book because it’s just best to figure it out all on your own. Nemesis and Villain don’t have the best first meeting, nor do the following altercations get any better. However, it’s the back and forth, their banter that keeps thing lively and entertaining.

Shen wrote some very unique characters and added some nice surprises along the way too. I have to admit that the mafia parts of this book were tough for me as I am a huge stickler with the accuracy of mafia stories and keeping everything very realistic in any and all aspects of that world. For me I had to let go and let the author’s imagination go on how things played out in those aspects (because they truly would not play out the way they did); this is where fiction comes in to play and not letting reality get in the way of true fictional story.

The story line and the characters kept me glued to the pages and had me vested in their outcome. Surprisingly, I truly loved Wolfe more than Francesca. She was tad annoying to me with how naïve she was along with the indecisiveness not only in her thoughts, but some of her actions. I understand that she is going to question herself a lot giving the circumstances, but damn. Sometimes that back and forth was a bit ridiculous at times.

As for Wolfe, he surprised me most. The man hides himself very well. He comes across as a lion in all aspects of his life, for good reason. But damn if he did not win me over in the end – even before the end if I must be honest. He might be an overbearing asshole, but he has his reasons.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this story and the characters. I know from above it doesn’t sound like it, but I truly did. Those were the only two things that bothered me, but it did not deter from me reading or continuing on with the story. And those things did not hurt the majority of the story.

The Kiss Thief is one I would still highly recommend to others and has made me want to go and read more of Shen’s writing.

The Secret To Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister by Meghan Quinn…Release Day Blitz & Review

How do you date your best friend’s sister? Easy.

Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer.

Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend’s sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move.

Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right?

It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of you life to fall madly in love with you.

At least–that’s what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She’s smart–really smart–and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I’ve tried slinging her way. She’s not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she’s not giving in that easy…

Meghan Quinn has the romcom genre nailed down very well. Each book has it’s perfect blend of romance, humor and even a touch of angst and this book is no different.

The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister (yea, super long title) stars Bram and Julia. They’ve known each other since Bram and Rath became inseparable in college and Julia started attending the same college a few years later. However, don’t for a second this story is like any other in the “dating your best friend’s sibling.”

I really enjoyed how Meghan wrote this story. It takes place when they’re older and settled in their lives. Julia runs an amazing business and Bram is an extremely successful business owner.

Bram is one book boyfriend every reader will love- he’s impossible not to. Julia will be a tad tougher for readers to grab onto but she eventually wind you over.

I loved the interactions not just between Julia and Bram but also with Rath, Roark and Clarissa. The secondary characters added another layer to the story without taking anything away.

Overall, another hit for Meghan Quinn. I’m excited to see if writes any other books starring the other characters.
