From This Moment by Melanie Harlow

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Publishing Date: October 10th, 2017

It was like seeing a ghost.

When my late husband’s twin brother moves back to our small town, I want to avoid him. Everything about Wes reminds me of the man I lost and the life we’d planned together, and after eighteen long months struggling just to get out of bed, I’m finally doing okay. I have a new job, an amazing support group, and a beautiful five-year-old daughter to parent. I don’t want to go backward.

But I’m drawn to him, too. He understands my grief and anger and guilt like no one else—and I understand his. Before long, that understanding becomes desire, and that desire becomes uncontrollable.

He says he doesn’t care what people think, and love can never be wrong. But life has taught me its cruelest lesson–love doesn’t always win.

If only my heart would believe it.

My Review:

Ok, after reading this book I have come to a very serious conclusion….I haven’t read nearly enough books by Melanie Harlow.   Good God, this book was SO INCREDIBLE! It’s hard not to sit at this computer and reminisce wistfully while writing this review.  But alas, I must snap out of it and write this because you all NEED to know how much I adored this book.

You can pretty much get the gist of the story from the synopsis so instead of repeating it, I’ll get to the good stuff…

Oh, these characters.  THESE CHARACTERS! My heart was broken for both of them.  Abby lost her husband.  Wes lost his twin brother.  Both are equally crushing and unimaginable.  Both had my chest physically aching as we experienced the loss through two very different perspectives.  Different perspectives but debilitating all the same.  It’s that loss, though, that really brings these two together.  Or should I say back together. The history Abby and Wes share added a whole other layer of chest aching when I was reading.  Their history involves loving from afar and wanting what you can’t have.  Putting someone ahead of yourself and waiting for your own chance at a happy ever after, knowing you probably won’t ever get one.  Have I mentioned my heart broke for these two?  They’re in this seemingly impossible situation with so many messy emotions and tenuous relationships. Both just really wanting to find some sort of happy in this new reality.  Both wanting it to be together.   I’m sure you can imagine their road is a rough one, and I won’t tell you it isn’t but I will tell you it is so worth it.  Goodness, these two!

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll believe in second chances and I know you’ll love every second of this book.

Thank you, Ms. Harlow, for a beautiful read!

Excerpt:

“Want to go out in the canoe?” he asked.

“Okay.” I ditched my flip-flops on the small, beach-level deck, and we set our wine glasses and the bottle on the deck’s little round table. Wes was already barefoot. Together we dragged the forest green canoe from the tall beach grasses on the side of the deck down to the water’s edge and tipped it over.

“Let me rinse it out a little,” Wes said, frowning at the dirt and spider webs inside. “Want to grab the paddles? They should be in the shed.”

“On it.” I went to the small shed on the embankment, opened it up and grabbed the oars, which stood in one corner. On the shelves were life jackets and sand toys and deflated rafts that probably had holes in them, and scratched into the wooden door among other graffiti was WP + CB. Huh. I’d never noticed that before. Who was CB? I glanced over my shoulder at Wes, who’d taken off his T-shirt and tossed it onto the sand.

My stomach full-out flipped.

Quickly, I shut the door to the shed and brought the oars down to the canoe.

Wes stood up straight and stuck his hands on his hips. He wore different sunglasses than Drew had worn, more of an aviator than a wayfarer. The body was similar, though Wes’s arms seemed more muscular, especially through the shoulder. Other things were the same and caused a rippling low in my body—the soft maroon color of his nipples, the trim waist, the trail of hair leading from his belly button to beneath the low-sling waistband of his red swim trunks. In my head I heard Tess’s voice. Arms. Chest. Shoulders. Skin. Stubble. Muscle. The smell of a man. The solidity of him.

“What’s the law on drinking and canoeing?” he asked.

What’s the law on staring at your brother-in-law’s nipples? I wondered, swallowing hard. What was wrong with me?

“I think we’re okay,” I said, handing the oars to him. Our hands touched in the exchange. “Let me grab our glasses.”

“Perfect. If you hold them, I’ll take us out.”

I retrieved the wine glasses from the table and walked carefully across the sand to the lake’s edge, taking deep, slow breaths. A sweat had broken out across my back. I was wearing a swimsuit beneath my cover up, a modest tankini, but I didn’t want to remove it. Wading ankle deep, I attempted to step into the canoe, but it wobbled beneath my foot.

“Whoa.” Wes took me by the elbow and didn’t let go until I was seated at one end, facing the other. “Okay?”

I nodded. Despite the heat, my arms had broken out in goose flesh.

“All right, here we go.” As he rowed us away from shore, the breeze picked up, cooling my face and chest and back.

“Drew and I used to have canoe-tipping contests.”

I snapped my chin down and skewered Wes with a look over the top of my sunglasses. “Don’t even think about it.”

He just grinned, the muscles in his arms and chest and stomach flexing with every stroke of the oars through the water. Momentarily mesmerized, I allowed myself the pleasure of watching him. It was okay if we were both thinking about Drew, wasn’t it?

In fact, it was only natural that I was intrigued by the sight of Wes’s body. He was my husband’s identical twin, for heaven’s sake, and I missed his physical presence in my life. I missed looking at him naked. I missed feeling the weight of him above me. I missed the feeling of being aroused by him, of my body’s responses to his touch, his kiss, his cock.

Deep in my body, the rusty mechanism of arousal creaked to life. My nipples peaked, my stomach hollowed, and something fluttered between my legs.

Oh, Jesus.

I sat up straighter, pressed my knees together, and closed my mouth, which I realized had fallen open. Hopefully I hadn’t moaned or anything. After another sip of wine, I turned my head and studied a freighter off in the distance. My heart was beating way too fast.

It’s only natural. It’s only natural.

Wes stopped paddling and set the oars in the bottom of the canoe, their handles resting against the seat in the middle. “We’ll have to bring Abby out here.”

“Definitely.” Did my voice sound normal? “She’ll love it. Here, want this?” I held his wine glass toward him and he reached out to take it. His fingers brushed mine, and I pulled my hand back as if the touch had burned me.

“Thanks.” He tipped the glass up then looked along the shore. “I’d like to find a place on the lake. Maybe not along this stretch of beach, though.”

I caught his meaning and smiled. “A little too close to home?”

“Yeah. But I don’t want to be too far away. I’d like to get a boat too.”

“What kind of boat? Drew always talked about it, but we never quite settled on one.”

“Not sure. Maybe just a little fishing boat, something to ski behind.”

“That sounds fun. Drew loved to ski.”

“We’ll have to teach Abby.”

I laughed. “You, not we. I managed to get up and stay up a few times, but I am not the expert.”

“You can teach her to cook, I’ll teach her to water ski.”

“Deal.” Separate activities seemed like a good idea.

“Breakfast was incredible.”

“Thanks.” I tucked a strand of hair that had escaped my ponytail behind my ear, but the wind blew it right back into my face. “I really like working there. I’m so glad Georgia suggested it to me.”

“How long have you been there?”

“Since spring, when they got busy. I’m not sure what I’ll do this winter when it slows down. I’m dreading it, actually. Abby will be in school full time, and it will just be me at home alone.” This was something else I hadn’t talked about with anyone, how worried I was that the gray skies and cold weather and silent hours would set me spiraling into depression. “I always thought I’d have another baby to take care of, but life saw things differently.”

“You’re still young, Hannah.”

I shook my head. “I’m really not. And I feel even older than I am.” Please don’t go Grief Police on me and tell me I’m being ridiculous, I begged him silently. This isn’t the life I chose. It was handed to me and I’m doing the best I can.

But he didn’t say anything more, just sipped his wine and looked out at the horizon. I was grateful.

“What about you?” I asked. “Think maybe you’ll get married now that you’re back? Have a family? Abby won’t have any siblings so she needs some cousins.”

“That seems to be a popular topic of discussion around here,” Wes said, shaking his head, “but I really have no idea.”

“Small town. We like to know everyone’s business.” I smiled. “Hey, what about CB? I saw your initials carved with hers on the door of the shed. Maybe she’s still around.”

He groaned. “Is that still there? Jesus. That had to be twenty years ago.”

Hugging my knees, I leaned forward. “First love?”

“Not even.” He hesitated, as if he were trying to decide whether to confess something.

“Come on,” I cajoled, carefully reaching out of the canoe, and splashing water toward him. “Tell me. I’ve been spilling my guts for an hour.”

“First kiss.”

I squealed. “And?”

He cringed. “It’s too embarrassing.”

“Wes, I had a completely humiliating breakdown in front of you last night. I got snot on my arm.”

“This is worse.”

“Get it out. You’ll feel better.”

“Let’s just say it was a very awkward, very fast experience.”

I gasped. “You lost your virginity to her?”

“No. Just my dignity.”

Laughing, I tilted my head back and felt the sun on my face, the wind in my hair, and something like joy in my heart.

It had been a long time.

Dubious by Charmaine Pauls….Blog Tour & Review

Title: Dubious (The Loan Shark Duet, #1)

Author: Charmaine Pauls

Genre: Dark Romance

Release Date: October 10, 2017

Synopsis

Repulsiveness personified, that’s me. I own a mirror, and I’m not afraid to look in it. What you see on the surface is a reflection of what runs under my skin. I’m a loan shark. Breaking people is in my blood. The Haynes’s were supposed to be a straightforward job. Go in and pull the trigger twice. One bullet for Charlie, one for his sister. But when I saw Valentina, I wanted her. Only, in our world, those who owe us don’t get second chances. No way in hell will my mother let her live. So I devised a plan to keep her.

It’s depraved.
It’s immoral.
It’s dubious.

It’s perfect.
Just like her.

(DUBIOUS is the first full-length novel in a two-part duet and ends on a cliffhanger. The second book, CONSENT, will be available on 14 November 2017. This is a dark romance with a criminal anti-hero and forced seduction. Reader discretion is advised.)

Excerpt

The table goes quiet, but not because of my outburst. The men’s heads are turned toward the landing on the upper floor. When I follow their gazes, I can’t miss the man who stands under the light, his hands gripping the rail. He wears a dark suit, like the Portuguese, but he’s anything but a generalization. He’s nothing short of a monster.

His body is muscular. Too big. There’s not enough space in the room for him. He drowns everything in power and dominance. He’s not young, but he isn’t old, either. Rather than defining his age, his years give him the distinguished edge of men with experience. Thick, black hair falls messily over his forehead, the wisps brushing his ears. His features are rogue, wild, and uncompromising. The lines running from his nose to his mouth are deeply etched. They’re the kind of lines men with hard, rough lives wear. A ghastly network of scars runs from his left eyebrow to his cheek. Under the disfigured patchwork, his complexion is tanned. The ruggedness of his skin gives the impression of being marred by bullets. A short-trimmed beard and moustache cover some of his imperfections, but the damage is too vast to hide. It’s a face you don’t want to see in the dark and definitely not in your dreams. It’s a face that stares straight at me.

Heat of the scary kind crawls over my skin. When I look into his eyes, it’s as if a bucket of ice is emptied down my shirt. An unwelcome shiver contracts my skin, and my fear turns from hot to cold. His irises are blue like the far-off glaziers I’ve only seen in pictures. Everything about him seems foreign. Out of place. Dangerous. He’s the kind of bad that’s even out of Napoli’s league.

Fan for life!!!
Charmaine Pauls knows exactly how to pull her readers in and rock their world!

This book is a little different from the other books that I’ve read from Ms. Pauls, but that is in NO way a bad thing. I enjoyed this book just as much as her previous works.

I loved the fucked-upness of the relationship between Gabriel and Valentina. I love that, though Valentia is young and inexperienced, she is a very strong-willed woman. I love that as hot as Gabriel is, he is not without scars.

The sex scenes are HOTTT. SO SO SO good.

It is a cliffhanger, but the second book in the duo, Consent, will be releasing in November!

Midnight Unleashed by Lara Adrian….ARC Review

Midnight Unleashed releases tomorrow!

Synopsis:

Return to New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Lara Adrian’s “addictively readable” (Chicago Tribune) Midnight Breed vampire romance series with a pulse-pounding novella of paranormal seduction and dangerous thrills, where an icy immortal beauty and a lethal Gen One Hunter must confront a powerful enemy while struggling to deny the irresistible calling of their blood.

My Review:

Midnight Unleashed is part of author Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series (swoon) and is novella number 17 in the 2017 1,001 Dark Nights lineup.  Being a huge fan of Ms. Adrian’s work, I was so excited for this release and I’ve gotta say, once again I am totally smitten with these Breed characters!

These two characters were so so so amazing!  Sia is an Atlantean and must lean a new life in the human realm after being exiled from her home after quite a devistating incident.  Trygg is a Gen One vampire and serving the Order after a heartbreaking past and lives his life as a protector. Their paths had crossed in the past and they never thought they’d see each other again…until fate brought them back together.  And when they do reunite? LET THE SPARKS FLY!

Between the sexual tension, the danger, the push and pull of emotion, I was glued to every word on every page! I loved Trygg when he was trying to push Sia away.  When he was trying to convince her he was a warrior an incapable to give her what she needs.  I loved Sia when she was determined to convince Trygg he was so much more than just a warrior.  That he was exactly what he needed.  Few authors can deliver strong yet vulnerable heroes and the strong heroines who love them like Lara Adrian! This story is totally swoon-worthy and deliciously engrossing!

Whether you’re already a Lara Adrain fan or this novella it’s your first taste, I know you will love this story as much as I did!  Thank you, Ms. Adrian, for another phenomenal read!

Synopsis

Jordan
This story isn’t about love, like, lust, or a happily ever after. This story, my story, is about struggle, pain and suffering. Fighting to stay afloat while being pulled under by what feels like the murky and powerful undertow of the ocean. Fighting for strength I so desperately need when all I am feeling is desolate and weak. I’m a girl who exudes hatred when a normal girl of my age and pedigree should be the picture perfect portrait of love.

Alcohol consumes me. Drugs numb me. Sex for money feeds the hollow abyss deep within me. How does a soon-to-be twenty-five year old escort turn her life around when the last several years of her life has been spent traveling down a very dark path?

The Shadow
She became my obsession, my every thought. She is the reason I wake up in the morning, plotting, scheming, exacting a revenge she so desperately deserves. But will she take my offer once she learns my true identity; sees the darkness within me, or will she hate me for lying to her all of these years, leading her to lose herself to the drugs and alcohol that have kept her ghosts at bay? Will she be my Precious?

If you have read any of Tesha’s previous work, please be prepared for her to take you on a totally different ride with this book. As the blurb states, this book is not about HEA’s. It’s not roses, unicorns, butterflies and rainbows. It’s life of one woman who at one point had at all; then one harrowing night changes her entire world and being.

My opinions may be slightly biased because I did edit this book, and as an editor, I wouldn’t allow my authors to put out a shit book. But I also thoroughly enjoyed reading this story when it was all said and done. What I loved about this book was Tesha’s ability to push herself out the norms of her other books – to write what’s begging to be written. It’s not as dark as originally planned only because she wanted to ease her existing fans into a different genre, but also still pull in new readers too. But it still has the dark tendencies with the edge of suspense built in.

The story line is about a young woman who is raped at the young age of 17 and how that one night changes and shapes her into the woman she becomes. It’s not pretty, but it’s real, raw and ugly. But everyone once in awhile, there is a beacon of light in those dark places. And Jordan’s beacon of light is The Shadow, Hunter Knight, someone she never anticipated becoming more than just another one of her outlets, her addictions.

Hunter (Shadow) and Jordan may not have the most conventional type of relationship, but it works for them. Crazy attracts crazy, right?! They somehow are able to find the rhythm that works for them – an imperfectly perfect balance.

But the main reason for Hunter ever finding himself in Jordan’s life to exact revenge for her for all the ways she had been wronged in her past. Jordan may not think she can ever face her demons, but with Hunter by her side, there isn’t anything that can stop these two.

I enjoyed reading this as Tesha put the story together – seeing how everything falls into place. Seeing how fucked up two individuals can be and that for some people, there are no boundaries when you’ve been to hell and returned with those scars. It’s an enjoyable suspense not just between Hunter and Jordan, but how things play out in the very end for everyone.

If Tesha is a new author to you, I urge you to give this book a try, if you can stomach a twisted romance with dark undertones. If you’ve read Tesha’s previous books, be prepared for something completely opposite of what she’s given us before.

4.5 Stars

I think my eyes are broken because this is the second book is just a week or two that has caused them to leak with this watery stuff and it won’t stop coming out. Damnit. Or I am just becoming a sapp in my old age.

Amy (A.L.), this book was more than I expected from you. I have read many of your books and that all touch a part of my heart and soul with your characters and their stories. But this book, it touched me most. And I have to say it’s the story line that tugs at me most. I love a great love story that comes from a tough road but when you throw a young child into the mix, my heart just checks all smashed up because they are my weakness.

“Rynna
Fucking Rynna.
Little Thief.”

Rynna (love this name) was raised by her grandmother after her mom took off. Her grandmother owned the diner in town and was known for her amazing pies. Aside from having her awesome grandma raised her, Rynna had her own troubles growing up. She was insecure and when anyone paid a little bit of attention to her, she thrived on that. Until her eighteenth birthday when her world was shattered and her only option was to run. Eleven years later, she finds herself returning to the town she swore she’d never return to; but she felt in her bones that she needed to honor her grandmother’s wishes and return to her smalltown and continue on her grandmother’s legacy.

Rynna was someone Rex never anticipated shaking up his world from across the street. And he tried his best to steer clear of her because he was not going to have another woman enter his and screw everything up, again. Frankie, his little girl, was his life and all the love he had left was for her. But Rynna had other plans in mind.

Rynna and Rex were something else. I loved Rynna’s determination to never give up on Rex. She knew when to push hard and when to pull back. And she slowly wormed her way underneath Rex’s hard exterior. But their story isn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Both of their pasts come back to haunt. And it ways, I had not expected at all.

Amy wrote another heart wrenching story that will have you rooting for Rynna and Rex. And your heart will smile brightly when Frankie Leigh graces your pages – her previous little self lights up the pages. If you are new to Amy’s books, I highly recommend reading this as it’s a start of new series and one I am sure you will love.

Bring on the next book, which I am hoping is Ollie’s. And I have no doubt in my mind it’s going to be another gut wrenching one if any of the tidbits I gathered in here are any clues to that.

On the streets of New Orleans, sins are committed every night.

My name is Jett Colby and I save tarnished souls.

In the downtown, under the glittery lights of Bourbon Street, I found her in cheap lingerie, flaunting her body for callous men and money.

From the lace of her cheap lingerie, to her garter belt, I knew she had to be saved.
She had to be mine.

Broke and destitute with no way of out, she had no choice but to come to me and into my club.

She had no other choice but to become a Jett Girl.

But see, that’s the thing about this city; you might think that under the dazzling lights and illusion of salvation, she’s the one that needed saving.

When the glitter fades and the dirt is washed away, the one worth saving just might be me.

Meghan Quinn is quickly becoming one of my all time favorite authors.

I picked this up after I read The Virgin Romance Novelist and wanted to see what else Ms. Meghan could write about. Let me tell you something – this woman knows how to suck you into a story – hook, line and sinker!!

I really don’t like going into much detail about the book because I feel like that takes away from your reading excitement but here’s some background info.

Goldie is picked up by Jett to try and become one of his elite Jett Girls. Since Hurricane Katrina, Goldie hasn’t had the easiest life and is barely scrapping by. So when this opportunity is dropped at her feet, she realizes she’d be an idiot to pass it up.

Goldie never really interacts with Jett til later in the book yet there’s a strong pull to him. Goldie is very opinionated and strong woman. She says whats on her mind and has the mouth that would make a sailor blush. I love this girl!! She’s a spit-fire!

Jett is very aloof and doesn’t get close to anyone. His purpose for his club is very altruistic and commendable. But he also has his own rules that everyone must obey and live by.

Meghan’s writing style is very distinct in that she has a way to not only write a strong story line, but pull off adding witty commentary that does not come off as tacky or annoying. The characters are all unique and each add to the story. Meghan does a wonderful job of blending the characters into the story and making everything flow perfectly.

Bring on the next book!

The walls of my club hold many secrets. Depravity. Sin. Justice.

Come in; debauchery can be yours for the cost of a lap dance and a night of pleasure.
And I own every last part of it.
But she’s my weakness, and thankfully she followed me through the insolvent streets of New Orleans, giving me her loyalty and her heart.
My desire for her dominates my every thought, but my broken past could destroy us.
There are people trying to bring me down.
Two malicious men stand in the way of what I want: to own it all.
It’s either Lot 17 or Goldie, my Jett Girl.
I have to make a choice and for once, it won’t be easy.

This takes off right where the first book left off and gets even spicier, hotter and down right intoxicating – I am talking about the book and now just hot men in this series.

First off – let me just say two words that I must get out – Kace and shower. HOT DAMN!!

Ok. Back to the book. Goldie/Lo is finally a true Jett Girl but her place with Jett is still confusing as ever. That damn man lures her in so quickly and then flings her back out to sea. A woman can only take so much. Jett seems to think that he can have his cake and eat it too. But he’s in for a rude awakening!

Then there’s Kace – the walking orgasm! His relationship with Goldie is very stormy. She wants to be his friend and he just wants her to go away. Little does he know that she doesn’t give up so easily. Goldie is a feisty one!

And Diego – I must know more about him. Meghan you have done your finest at piquing my interest in this character.

But don’t think this book is all about the hot sex and even hotter men. Oh no – Meghan has intricately weaved a very intriguing story line that puts many characters in the line of fire if they aren’t careful where they tread.

Megahn does a superb job of keeping the amazingly hilarious and witty content so real and doesn’t come across as cheesy or over the top. Meghan’s writing style just pulls you right into the story and you find yourself immesered in the world of New Orleans.

I can’t wait to see what she gives us in Forever A Jett Girl!

Under the neon lights of Bourbon, money is everything.
Justice, faith, and power. They’re the key to my empire and she holds them all in the palm of her hand. Falling for her was a mistake; she stole my heart and consumed me. I was addicted, and she left me weak and vulnerable to my enemies.
They’re everywhere.
Now she’s gone, turning to my enemy’s business partner; the man I’ve hated my entire life. She said she’s protecting me. She said it won’t be forever.
But how can I believe her?
Lies, deceit and deception. They’re the sins driving us apart.
In a city that never sleeps—in a place where scandal hides behind every dark corner, my Jett girl might never be mine again.

Forever a Jett Girl is the conclusion to this series and probably my favorite in this series.

I must say that normally come book 3 or 4 in a series, I am bored by what is happening and things are starting to become redundant. But that is not the case here. Meghan saved all the good shit for last!

Goldie/Lo has taken things into her own hands. She has no plans but knows what she wants the end results to be. She is playing in a world where anything goes and with the right amount of money, anything can be achieved.

Jett is clueless and has no control – something he has never dealt with before. Jett needs control and having that one thing taken from him, well let’s just say the man isn’t himself.

“She shifted the atmosphere of the entire club. The girls always held the cards, but she turned into the fucking dealer.”

Jett and Goldie are both working towards the same thing but neither has any idea what the other is doing. Everything comes to a blow and things start to get even more hairy for Jett and Goldie. Nothing can ever go right for these two.

Meghan does a fantastic job of writing this from various POV’s but never gets anything tangled or loses the focus. It flows really well and keeps the excitement alive. I enjoy reading what is going on in other character’s minds as things are happening around them and how it affects them.

Meghan’s quirkiness is a highlight for me as I am reading this book. I love the witty humor and the crap that just flows out of Goldie’s mouth. The banter between all the characters really gives the book life – makes it feel more real. I find myself laughing ALOT but it never deterred from the seriousness of what was going on.

This is one series that I will always find myself going back to. Bravo Meghan!!

Every choice you make in life comes with a consequence.

I was once on top, I was the professional boxer to be afraid of. I had everything I could possibly hope for. I was happy, satisfied, content . . . until one night.

One off day.

One wrong reaction.

I killed a man. The sound, the blood, the stagnant air, it’s forever imprinted in my mind and now dictates the way I live my life.

Desolate with nothing but my penance to pay, I didn’t expect to have my world flipped upside down when Lyla seductively strutted into my life.

I want her. I need her. I crave her.

But I don’t deserve her.

People like to celebrate the day they were born, I like to celebrate the day my soul died.

This is my story of repentance.

4.5 stars!!

I have really come to love Meghan Quinn and her writing. She gets the right amount of suspense and laughter to make the book so enjoyable.

Repentance is a book about second chances. It’s about living in the present and not allowing your past to dictate who you are or what happens in the future.

We met Kace Hayood in Meghan’s Bourbon series. He’s the man behind the scenes in Jett’s business. Kace wants to help others get that second chance in life and better themselves. And after working with Jett on his previous business, he is going to run the new community center, Justice.

However, Kace has his own past and demons. He believes that he doesn’t deserve that second chance in life but helping others is his way of coping. He’s only had one person stand by him his whole life – Jett. Until Lyla.

Lyla is a feisty and confident woman. She knows that there is something between her and Kace. And she refuses to walk away from him without a fight.

The interactions between Kace and Lyla are fierce and explosive – both in and out of the bedroom. And like with all Meghan Quinn books, you have that hilarious and quirky comedic dialogue that has you dying of laughter.

This book seemed a bit more intense than others books I have read by Meghan and I really, really enjoyed that I could see another side to her writing. And when you are able to make me go from laughing to crying (in public!), just by words, I truly believe that shows the strength in an author’s writing.

Another hit for Meghan Quinn!!!!

Side note – I am hoping we may get some books on Blane and Diego – HINT HINT!!! LOL

About the Author:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

PAPERBACK

Soraya Naomi not only knows how to write a damn great story, but she truly knows how to write a great mafia story; she’s the master of this genre.

You do not need to read any of the previous books in this series to read this book. Previous characters do make appearances; Soraya does a phenomenal job of explaining what those characters roles are within in this mafia world and she does it without any confusion.

Now for those who have never read any of her mafia books before, I will let you know that this one is probably the least suspenseful when it comes to the mafia drama and suspense and it should be. This is Carmine’s book – he is the Consigliere (counselor/lawyer) for the Chicago Syndicate, fourth in command. While he is there for the majority of the meetings, it’s rare that he would be involved in anyof the ugly parts of the mafia.

Carmine never saw himself as a guy that would settle down and be a family man. He’s always been ok with just needing a woman to pacify he needs at that time and then going about his business. He never anticipated a woman from the escort side of Club 7 to entice him; especially after their first two encounters within the club had him feeling nothing but annoyed by her.

Eva becomes Carmine’s assignment while he is on mafia business. And unknowingly, Eva finds herself admits a mafia showdown when she is asked to snoop on Carmine during their interactions. I have to say that Soraya plays this out very well. Eva has no idea what she’s really doing and uses her gut instincts on who to trust. For the first time ever, Carmine has a difficult time on how to handle Eva and what he’s feeling.

I really like Eva. She’s just trying to make money to pay for her brother’s care and be able to live a normal life. And when she’s thrust into this mafia world, she holds herself up very well. I love that she doesn’t back to Carmine either; she challenges him at every angle.

Carmine – he’s more than I expected. He was more ruthless and cunning that I thought. He was just more than I ever anticipated. Soraya shocked me in a very awesome way with Carmine. And I really enjoyed learning every bit about him and then watching Eva turn that upside down. These two couldn’t have been more opposite if they tried; but they also brought out new sides to each other.

Soraya wrote an amazing suspenseful and emotional story. I love that The Lawyer and the Tramp was about two individual who couldn’t be any more different, especially in the mafia world. Her words will have you begging to know what happens and how things pan out; how these two interact and not kill one another every time they are together. I love it!!

Another great mafia story from Soraya!!

Touched by Mara White…Blog Tour & Review

AP new - synopsis.jpg
Does your sister let you touch her, Gemini?
-Barely, but, yes, more than anyone else. I remember even in preschool when the teacher would grab her hand, she’d stare at the spot where their skin connected as if it were an affront to her existence. Just stand there and glare like she wanted to hurt someone.
-Junipera suffers from a rare phobia.
-Please, what does June not suffer from?
-When did she start chasing storms?
-In third grade she started obsessing about the rain. Full blown? I’d say after hurricane Katrina she never looked back. And she didn’t just chase them, June became those wild storms.

Junipera and Gemini Jones, Irish twins born during the month of June, survive a childhood of neglect and poverty by looking out for one another. Destined for a group home, the girls are rescued by a rich aunt and uncle who move them from Northern Minnesota to Fairfield, Connecticut. One sister thrives while the other spins out of control. A violent assault leaves Gemini searching for clues, but what she finds might be questions that are better left unanswered.

    -The Book Queen

-Suanne Laqueur, Best-Selling author of the Fish Tales Series

Touched is a story that I will soon not forget. This is my first Mara White book and most definitely will not be my last. While I had some difficulty reading this book due to how it was written, I was still able to feel every bit of Mara’s writing.

This story is completely different from what I’ve read in the past. In all honesty, I think this may be my first women’s fiction book. I had no idea what to expected when I jumped into this book. The blurb doesn’t even come close to giving you the true depths of this book. It’s about so much more.

“God makes us each how we are, June. Unique, special, different from others. You touch people with your actions, with your heart. I can see that and I just met you.”

Gemini and Juniper are Irish twins who grew up in poverty. But they made the most of what they had. Gem was the most resourceful of the two, making sure they both had what they needed to survive. June was the more free bird of two; nothing stopped her once she had heart and mind set on something. And these two were inseparable; they were dependent upon one another in order to survive. But Gem suffered from a phobia that caused her a lot of hindrances as they grew up – she didn’t like to be touched by anyone, aside from her sister. Until they met Alaric. These three formed a bond like no other – it was very unique bond too.

“The good Lord made us the way he intended us to be. There are no mistakes in His divine hands.”

There are so many important characters in this book, not just Gem, June and Alaric. Each characters plays significant role in their own way. But June really stood out to me. She was an enigma. How largely she lived without ever touching anyone but still touched them each in different ways, speaks volumes about her as a person.

“For a girl who didn’t touch people and refused all physical affection, June had discovered a beautiful strength hidden in her imperfections. If she wanted to let go, she simply had to grab hold as hard as she could.”

I know that my review may seem as vague as the blurb as to how truly deep this goes. It’s a book that you have to experience on your own. I will state that titles of each chapter will be a huge help in reading and understanding as you go along. Mara flips between past and present within the chapters and it sometimes got confusing, but you are able to figure out where she is going with her story. As I said, this is a book that I will not be soon forgetting.

Alaric

Alaric was used to being tossed off, so it didn’t surprise him or especially hurt his feelings when his grandfather passed him on to another group home. Three months had been enough for the old coot. Buyer’s remorse. Maybe driving him to school every day put him over the edge. He took the high road and took in the kid, but then soon realized it was a crazy idea. Too much of a responsibility. Besides, he hated people, let alone a grandson. Alaric was needy and Thorn didn’t do needy.
He did miss the room he’d quickly become attached to. He missed choices for breakfast and the hum of the loud refrigerator. He even kind of missed how his grandfather grunted instead of speaking full words, how he’d catch him studying his face like he was trying to decipher a code. Alaric knew he looked like his father, that the fact both pleased and aggravated his grandfather. A second chance the man didn’t ask for and obviously didn’t want.
Alaric realized he was slipping in his game. He shouldn’t have feelings for a bed or a ceiling after only a few weeks of staying in the same place. The trick was, he’d let himself think it was permanent and allowed himself to believe his home wasn’t going anywhere. Turned out he was half right—his home wasn’t going anywhere, but apparently, he was. Alaric reminded himself that nothing was permanent, change was the only guaranteed constant in life.
The other thing he missed were his nightly summer visits with Gem and June. Even though they pretended not to know each other at school, in the few months he’d been there, June and Gem had snuck over almost every night to watch the television in the garage. They shared snacks and laughs, secrets and intimate moments of fun. Although he’d never hung out with girls before, he’d imagined it would be boring, tedious and maybe even petty. How wrong he was, because Gem and June were electric, their curiosity was infectious, their fearlessness—almost troubling. He was, admittedly, a little bit scared of them. Especially June, whom he’d seen eat a bug, let a spider crawl down her turtleneck, poke a dead cat with a stick and turn it over so they could see the maggots, try a sip of beer from a can someone discarded on the curb, ride Freddy Bullet’s dirt bike down the dirt hill at full speed with her legs held out to the sides, hold her head under water in a bucket of freezing water, touch tongues with a teenager from the middle school who dared her to, drive her mother’s car to the other side of the street for alternate side parking. Phew! He would never challenge June to something he wasn’t readily willing to do. Because June would do it and leave him crying in the dust.
***
Junipera and Gemini turned ten and eleven in June. Alaric was ten in August. Midway through the year, Albert Thorn felt guilty about abandoning his grandson and came back to get him. Alaric was most excited about seeing his neighbors, Gem and June. He felt closer to them than he did his only living relative. Their reunion was spectacular. They smiled so hard their cheeks hurt, eyes dancing with the possibility of another summer spread out before them.
Life wasn’t easy, but they lived it fully and sometimes secretly. Fun was a reality they trusted much more than adults or rules or the surreal transformation that was growing up. If something appeared fun, it carried with it a truth that spoke directly to their hearts. A joke. A puddle to be splashed, a doorbell to be rung and ditched, sidewalk chalk to spell out pastel curse words, the pink heart dotting the I on the word shit, slides to slide upside down and two by two or three if they could fit, wrestling matches to reenact the ones they’d seen on TV—June could do full body slams until purple bruises appeared on her hip bones—they’d gossip and whisper stories from warm lips to ears, candy, costumes, screaming, running, laughing until tears or until June wet her pants. The magic of summer and having friends to share it with; they didn’t take it lightly and reveled in its bewitching yet innocent power.
Alaric would make videos that starred June and Gem. They didn’t reenact stories, he just documented their interactions, the two girls giggling and telling inside jokes, yelling at the television to egg on their favorite characters, fighting over seats or sticks or candy—Alaric found everything they did to be fascinating. He liked to zoom in close on both of their faces, record the flashes of expression and subtle eye movements that informed their unique communication. Once he filmed June outside dancing in the rain. He and Gem stayed in the shelter of the garage overhang while Junipera soaked her white nightgown all the way through. She threw her arms to the sides and spun in circles, tipped her head back and opened her mouth. Thunder crashed around them like the crack of a cosmic whip; purple lightning split through the dark sky making them both jump and cower. June was oblivious.
“Junipera, come back in. It’s dangerous and you’ll get sick,” Gem screamed at her sister.
Alaric panned to her face, which was twisted up in concern, then back out to June, who was laughing openly at the sky in some kind of trance-like rapture. Her feet were covered in mud up to her ankles, her nightgown soaked transparent and advertising her blue underwear. Gem could even see her navel. Greenish lightning zapped through the rapacious clouds and moments later, another clash of thunder shattered their ears. Gem and Alaric bumped shoulders as fear moved them involuntarily. The lightning lit her up in intervals like the glitz of a macabre disco. The vibration of the storm rumbled low in their bellies and when the thunder struck it shook the earth beneath them.
“June, I’m serious. Get back in here!” Gem screamed. Alaric filmed her face, concentrating on her brown eyes filled with panic. “What if she gets hit?” Gem asked him, her palms turned upward in defeat.
“Well, then she’d stop dancing for sure and you and I could go save her.”

My Review:

Too Beautiful To Break is the fourth, and sadly last, book in author Tessa Bailey’s Meeting The Clarksons series and highlights a couple we’ve seen throughout the whole series, but knew very little about.  A couple comprised of a serious, handsome, thoughtful, broody Belmont and the beautiful, sweet, kind Sage.  The connection they shared was always in the shadows and we didn’t really know the exact dynamic between them…until now. And now that I’ve finished this story I can tell you all the build up was so worth the wait.  Oh, how I love this couple so.

If you want a little backstory on the Clarksons as  whole, I’m going to direct you here because frankly I can’t wait to gush over Belmont and Sage…

Belmont, from the very beginning, has been the stoic older brother with a protective streak a mile long and a soft heart as big as Texas.  We got to see glimpses of those traits throughout the series, but he always remained a mystery.  His childhood was shaped around one nightmarish incident that, in a way, made him the man he is today.  He was a great big teddy bear who maybe didn’t smile of laugh a lot, but a man you loved regardless.  He was also a man you just knew loved Sage Alexander, even if he wouldn’t admit it out loud just yet, you knew the special kind of connection and tension between them would spill over into much more than a few stolen quiet moments together.

What’s not to love about Sage Alexander? She’s kind and beautiful and has a soft grace about her that practically jumped off the pages.  They were mismatched in so many ways, but so well matched in the most important of ways.

So, when these to are thrown into a situation where they can’t deny what they feel for each other any longer, I knew I was in for an emotional ride. And oh boy, I think I cried through the entire second half of this book.

One of the things I loved most about Belmont and Sage was they were both pretty innocent when it came to relationships and handling emotions.  So seeing them experience a lot of things that come with first love was rather refreshing and a bit unexpected.  It really brought another layer to their story that made their bond that much more special and strong.  It also made me need almost a whole box of tissues.

The road they must travel down is way more than just a rough one.  Both of the have to battle childhood demons that they’ve been pushing aside for far too long but they do it….together. Man, is it something special to read.

Now, some of you may know that when Tessa first thought of this series, I was beyond excited.  It was a series unlike anything out there, and still is.  What you may not know is that we were at dinner when she told me it was going to come to fruition; I totally started crying right there in the restaurant.  What you also may not know is on another occasion I forced her to tell me how Belmont’s story would play out.  You can imagine I cried again.  But what she managed to put down on paper, and into the words of this book, far surpassed anything I could have dreamed for.  It was the most sublime of stories and while I am so freaking sad the series has come to an end, there is no better way to have it ended with these two.  And yes, I’m crying again…

Thank you, Tessa, for giving us not only the whole Clarkson gang, but the loves they’ve found on their journey and for taking us along for the ride.

Five Loves

TOO BEAUTIFUL TO BREAK excerpt:

“You don’t have to leave right away,” Sage said when Belmont turned, watching her from beneath his eyebrows. “Can you wait here while I take a quick shower?”

Maybe that hadn’t been the right thing to say. His big back heaved and the touch of his tongue in her mouth came crashing in like a behemoth wave. They had crossed an unspoken boundary on the train platform. There was no going back to before, to when they stopped at rough, crushing embraces. As if that hadn’t been…more than sexual somehow.

“Yes, I’ll wait,” he said, his voice sounding like serrated metal. “I can light the fire for you.”

I’ll say. God, why did everything sound like an innuendo now? If her body weren’t flush and sweating beneath the jumpsuit, she would have laughed about it. But there was nothing funny about having Belmont looming mere yards away, looking like one word of encouragement would snap his chain and send him barreling toward her. “That would be perfect. I’ll just be…a few minutes.”

Sage all but dove into the itty-bitty bathroom, pressing her back up against the door and willing her racing heart to calm down. Why had she asked him to stay? Her resolve would weaken with every passing second. Biting down on her lower lip, she began the excruciating task of lowering the zipper of her jumpsuit, which kicked up a protest in her triceps and shoulder muscles. When she finally got it down, she gripped the hem of her T-shirt and attempted to lift it over her head.

Her arms wouldn’t cooperate. They flat out wouldn’t rise any higher than her ribs, leaving the T-shirt suspended in midair. Her muscles burned like someone had doused them in lighter fluid and held them above a flame. Sage’s agony must have escaped in the form of a whimper, because Belmont’s boots scraped just outside the door. And her stomach hollowed with awareness, lightning racing all over her skin.

“Sage.” His voice was deep, urgent. “Do you need help?”

No. Say no. She’d only gotten finished reminding him she didn’t need him. But in this case, it would be a lie and she’d done so much of that lately. With Belmont. The most truthful person she knew. “I can’t get my shirt off.” Her nose started to ache, the tip probably turning red. “My arms hurt.”

His growl was short and broken. A beat passed before the door opened and she felt Belmont filling the doorway behind her. She flicked a glance up to the ancient mirror and confirmed what she’d seen in her mind’s eyes. Belmont towering over her like an avenging angel, outlined by candlelight. He’d taken off his coat, leaving him in a black long-sleeved shirt, which he’d rolled up to the elbows. Every inch of visible skin was shot through with strained cords of muscle, as if his frustration were written on him like a road map.

Sage still had the shirt halfway lifted, so her lower back was visible. Not a big deal to most people. But Belmont had never seen anything below her neck. Or above her knees. With the jumpsuit peeled halfway down, the band of her underwear might even be peeking out.

Breathing grew difficult as Belmont took one step closer and took hold of the T-shirt, his knuckles grazing the small of her back. “You’re wearing”—his breath ghosted down her neck—“my shirt.”

Sage only realized she’d closed her eyes when they popped open. Oh God. In the shock of Belmont arriving, she’d forgotten. “I am?” Her mouth was parched. “L-look at that.”

“I am looking.” She jumped when Belmont reached over her shoulder with his left hand and turned on the shower, the sound of spray filling the room. Then the roughness of his knuckles returned, sliding up her spine along with the shirt. “I like knowing there was a layer of me standing between you and the earth.”

Her legs took on the consistency of Jell-O. His touch was a drug, making her languid, although it was different than the way he usually touched her. There was sex this time. So much of it. And it was that major difference that allowed Sage to accept the skimming of his fingers. Accept the part of herself that lusted. They were in a dark room and time had surely suspended anywhere outside this little plot of square footage. Words ached to leave her mouth, words that wouldn’t be suitable in the sunlight. This man, so warm and brave and large at her back, knew things about her no one else did. What was one more secret? “I stole it out of your suitcase. I broke a commandment and everything.”

“Why?” He breathed into her hair, sinking heat like an anchor in her belly. The shirt came off, her arms dropped to her sides, and she was left in nothing but a bra from the waist up. Inches from Belmont. “Why, sweetest girl?”

A light steam had begun curling in the air like beckoning fingers. Maybe this is a dream. It felt like one of the fevered fantasies she woke from on occasion, sweat slicking her breasts and neck. “Because I like the way you smell and it hadn’t been washed.”

His exhale was gravelly. “Sage.

“Yes.”

She thought he might not respond, but finally he asked a question that made her nipples turn to hard points. “Can you manage”—a long, windy inhale—“the bra?”

Sage tried. She really, truly did. Her arms felt as though they might break off and hit the floor, but she reached back until her muscles locked up, refusing to move farther. But Belmont was already there, pushing them back down, holding them at her hips.

Jesus. Please, stop. I can’t watch it.” His touch disappeared only for a second and then the cotton material of the bra tightened over her breasts. She could feel him working the back clasp with fingers she knew so well. They’d tunneled through her hair so many times, twisted in her clothing, but had never, ever, touched her with any kind of…intent. Intent to seduce. And that’s what he was doing, intentional or not. The inhibitions she’d held close forever, circled the drain, along with the shower water. “Your back is so beautiful.” A ghost of a fingertip traced down her spine. “But I need to leave before I—”

“What?”

“Before I turn you around.” They weren’t touching, but she could sense the shudder that ran through him. “Or look in that mirror.”

Right or wrong, the mine, their codependency aside, Sage knew if she let him leave just then, she would regret it for all time. Her body had been woken up. By one man. He’d kept her on the razor’s edge for thousands of miles, surrounding her with his power and taking it away. Over and over. And this fever wrapping around them in the tiny bathroom was completely different from easing his anxiety. Finally, she felt like a woman standing in front of him, instead of a calming device. This was mutual and alive and she couldn’t stand it to end. Tomorrow might be a different story, but this moment was the culmination of a thousand dreams and she could no more deny herself than she could forget his face.

“Belmont, do you think of the kiss?”

I never stop,” he groaned into her hair. “Never.”

She took a deep breath for courage. “Will you shower with me?”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

My Review:

Lie To Me is the newest work from author J.T. Ellison, and admittedly, the first book of hers that I’ve read.  Having just finished the book I can tell you that I’ll be looking at her entire backlist for more because holy moly, this book was one hell of an incredible ride.  I loved every twist, every turn, every dark moment, on every page.

This is the story of two authors; Sutton and Ethan Montclair.  This is the inside of their daily lives, the nitty-gritty moments in their marriage; the tale of the days inside the walls of their home.  That all begins, however, after Sutton leaves Ethan.  What comes after that moment are carefully laid pieces to a complex past, which involves pain, infidelity, loss, resentment, career struggles, and a disappearing act we are all left to figure out.  As the story is unwound, I was questioning every player in this game  I had no idea who was ultimately responsible for the state of affairs the Montclair’s were in.  Did Ethan kill Sutton?  Was she even dead or had she in fact left him? Who was to believe?

We get to figure all of that out, and more, as we follow the detective in charge of getting to the bottom of the mystery, and when all the cards are laid out on the table?  Holy. Hell.  It was one of the most suspenseful and well executed ending I’ve read.  I’m still reeling. Oh, I should probably mention that the ending, while crazy intense, ends up being a happy one so not to worry!

One thing I have to give mention to is a part of this story that had me giggling.  If you’ve been in the book world for a few years, you may remember the crazy tale of the blogger who gave a bad review, the author of the poorly reviewed book who showed up at the blogger’s house, and the brouhaha that ensued.  That was definitely an instance of the truth being stranger than fiction and a similar scenario plays a part in this book. Loved that it was included!

If you’re looking for an unputdownable book, Lie To Me fits the bill!   Thank you, Ms. Ellison, for one helluva read!

Dane James worked my stepfather’s fields. He was the boy next door.

Strong.

Hardworking.

Forbidden.

From the moment we met, we were star-crossed lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives, but right from the beginning destiny had other plans. She knew we would fall in love. She knew we would fall apart. Over and over again, like the curse of a recurring nightmare. Or the hope of a familiar dream.

Our past was tumultuous. Our future was bleak. But the one thing we always had was the beautiful now.

Until that was taken from us, too.

And when faced with the harsh realities of life, love can still prevail over all.” — Jennifer

ALL THE STARS!!!!

Damnit, Michelle. You pulled at this momma’s heart strings, big time. How I made it through this book without ruining my kindle from the tears falling, is beyond me. This book is just so much of everything, I have no idea where to start or what to say.

The Beautiful Now is exactly that – Beautiful. It’s love story of epic proportions. It’s not just about the love between a man and a woman, but a mom and dad and their child. It’s about the love we have for another that runs so deep, we’d do anything so that the other person is living a happy life, even it means we have to give up our lives for them. Damnit, I am crying writing this review. This is what book did to me. All the feels.

Michelle’s previous book, The Empty Jar, she made my heart ached; with this book, my heart took another beating of epic proportions. And it hurt for some many different aspects in this book. But she also mended it and made my heart sing. I laughed at the silly nuisances between Brinkley and Celina; I cried over the heartache that these two had to endure; I felt hope and love between them all.

I love that Michelle tells this story from Brinkley’s POV in both the past and present. It helps show the undying love between Dane and Brinkley; how something that deep can never be severed – no matter the time, no matter the reason. It’s soul crushing. Even though they knew everything was against and they could never be, they still chose to try. But fighting the inevitable, hurt them more in the long run.

Dane – wow, that man is something is else. I love that he never cared what anyone else thought. He lived his life the way he wanted and chose not to let anyone’s opinion sway him. His strength bled into Brinkley. He was her rock.

As a mother, this book really hit home for me. I pray I never go through anything that Brinkley did with her daughter. But that unconditional love is something as a parent you just can’t explain, it is just there from the beginning and only grows stronger with each beat of their little heart. The closeness that Brinkley and Celina share as mother and daughter is raw and honest and it’s one I have with my own daughter – I would give anything for her. She’s my sunshine, my reason.

This was another emotional read from Michelle. She doesn’t hold back on taking you to the heart and soul of a story. She gives you everything that reaches deep within you. I highly recommend this book to everyone. But know that going in, your soul will get blasted and come back feeling refreshed.

Thank you Michelle for writing another epic story about life and love. My heart goes through the ringer with your books, but I am forever grateful to experience everything I do with your books. I felt this book deep in my bones. <3

“We didn’t have a future. We couldn’t possibly. We both knew it. But we had the now. The beautiful now. And that was better than nothing.”
