BLURB

Not every love story begins with a fiery explosion of lust.
Some are tiny embers of hope that smoulder slowly until the stars align…

I’d been living in a bubble.
It was meant to protect me from the things in life that hurt.
I could live, I could laugh, but at least I didn’t have to love.
Loving was dangerous and I would never do it again.

It was working just fine, until the bubble burst.
It let in danger.
It let in light.
It let in…him.

Unknowingly I’d been living in the dark, feeling my way.
He filled my world with starlight.
He showed me how to move on to the next level.
He made me feel again.

I thought the wounds from the past would never fully heal,
But perhaps they only heal when the time is right.

Sometimes you just have to thank your lucky scars.

This is the first book I have ever read by Kerry. While I have heard of her past books (a few are on my TBR list), I have never had the chance to read any. So I was extremely grateful to be the given the chance to read Lucky Scars and I thoroughly enjoyed this book – way more than I anticipated.

I have to admit that I got from this story is totally different than what I had anticipated and I am very happy with that. The setting was nothing like I read before and the characters were very unique in their own rights.

“I’m just afraid our scars will break us.”

Bea and Ziggy are two individuals who have been dealt shit hands in life. While they have moved forward in their lives, they are stills stagnant in life in other ways. Watching these two grow from friends to lovers was amazing. They are both broken souls who needed to heal on their own but also needed a bright light to awake them again. While there were some instances that I felt were a little too juvenile for their ages, it did not hurt the overall telling of their story.

“I thought I had captured him, but maybe he was setting me free.”

The story flowed easily and the writing was beautiful. The characters were not too complex and I enjoyed them all. While I may not have felt that real deep emotional attachment the whole way through like I have others, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book, felt the emotions of the characters and loved the ending. I would definitely recommend it to others.

The Fragile Ordinary by Samantha Young…Blog Tour & Review

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Impossible Vastness of Us and the On Dublin Street series comes a heartfelt and beautiful new young adult novel, set in Scotland, about daring to dream and embracing who you are. Order your copy of THE FRAGILE ORDINARY today!

About THE FRAGILE ORDINARY:

I am Comet Caldwell.

And I sort of, kind of, absolutely hate my name.

People expect extraordinary things from a girl named Comet. That she’ll be effortlessly cool and light up a room the way a comet blazes across the sky.

But from the shyness that makes her book-character friends more appealing than real people to the parents whose indifference hurts more than an open wound, Comet has never wanted to be the center of attention. She can’t wait to graduate from her high school in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the only place she ever feels truly herself is on her anonymous poetry blog. But surely that will change once she leaves to attend university somewhere far, far away.

When new student Tobias King blazes in from America and shakes up the school, Comet thinks she’s got the bad boy figured out. Until they’re thrown together for a class assignment and begin to form an unlikely connection. Everything shifts in Comet’s ordinary world. Tobias has a dark past and runs with a tough crowd—and none of them are happy about his interest in Comet. Targeted by bullies and thrown into the spotlight, Comet and Tobias can go their separate ways…or take a risk on something extraordinary.

“Endearing and relatable, Comet-the girl who is searching for her place in this world-will shoot through the sky and into your heart.”

Every so often a book hits me in ways I never expect and The Fragile Ordinary is one them.

While I was expecting a very well written and interesting YA read (and I did get that), I was blown away by Samantha’s poetry throughout this book. Reading her words had me stopping and reflecting on things in life that I never expected. For me, that made this book stand out even more.

The Fragile Ordinary is a story of growth for these young characters. Growing up in world where drugs are more easily accessible, high school tormentors are harsher and trying to be confident in ones’ self in a more judgemental world is hard for anyone, let alone a blossoming teen.

Comet and Tobias may come from different backgrounds, but their struggles are the same – to be accepted as they are. The main plot is a story of friendship between two polar opposites and shifting into more as they overcome their own obstacles. Life is the same no matter where you are – whether it be in Scotland where this story is set or in America. But Samantha also throws in the obstacles friends face and how to handle the outcomes of their decisions. There are so many interconnected small plots within this story that make this book as a whole really great.

I do have that point out that I loved the dialogue in this book. I am so used to reading books that are set in America, that the change in the dialogue and then settings, made this book all the more entertaining. I could hear the diverse and unique language in my head as I read the words and I loved it – kept me in the story more.

Samantha has written another sensational book that stands out amongst the rest!

I became so preoccupied with the thought of meeting Tobias after school and walking to Stevie’s and his flat with him, and then working in close proximity in their bedroom again, I was utterly useless as a friend. I barely had any recollection of anything Vicki or Steph said to me all day, and it became clear to them why when we walked out of school at the end of the day and I told them I had to wait for Tobias.
“So that’s why you’ve been so distracted all day,” Steph said, sounding put out. “You get to spend the afternoon in Tobias King’s bedroom.”
My God, was she jealous?
It sounded like she might be a little envious.
“Oh, Comet, please don’t tell me you like him,” Vicki said, not sounding jealous at all, but very concerned.
“I don’t,” I lied.
“Good. Because he’s a bad boy. And you’re…”
“Comet,” Steph supplied, like that explained everything.
Ugh. It did explain everything.
Total opposites.
“Well I don’t. Now go, before he thinks we’re standing here gossiping about him.”
Steph laughed and threaded her arm through Vicki’s to lead her away. I gave Vicki a reassuring smile and a wave when she looked over her shoulder at me, still plainly concerned.
“Ready?”
I almost jumped out of my shoes as I spun around to find Tobias towering over me. He was alone.
Hmm.
I’d been partly nervous about meeting him to walk him to his flat because I’d suspected Stevie would be joining us. Relief moved through me. “No Stevie?”
Tobias’s brows drew together. “No. Why would there be?”
I shrugged, confused by his somewhat belligerent response. “You live together.”
“He skipped out after lunch.”
Of course he had. I turned away so Tobias wouldn’t see me roll my eyes. “I suppose we better go then.”
If I’d thought last night’s walk was quiet, this one was positively dead. We said not a word to one another. I was going to start up conversation, attempt to not be socially awkward, but Tobias seemed lost in his thoughts and his silence made me lose my nerve.
“You’re not afraid of me, are you?” He spoke up suddenly, only a street away from the flat.
The question surprised me so much my tongue loosened. “What? Why would you think that?”
“The way you reacted when Mr. Stone made me sit next to you. Your hands were shaking yesterday. You were nervous at Stevie’s flat. The way you’re acting now.”
“It’s not that I’m afraid of you.”
“So you’re just shy as shit?”
What a charming adjective. I wrinkled my nose. “Maybe.”
Tobias chuckled. “You don’t have to be shy around me. Contrary to popular belief, I’m not actually Satan.”
“No one thinks you’re Satan.” I shook my head. “Just…maybe not the kind of boy who would talk to a girl like me. I get that.” I wanted to assure him that I knew we were just presentation partners and not actually friends. “So let’s just get to your place and get our work done.”
“First…go back. The part about me being a guy who wouldn’t talk to a girl like you. Explain.”
I frowned at the demand. “I’m academic. I like school. You…you may be smart, but clearly you don’t like school.”
“I can see where you might think that.” He nodded and then flashed me that boyish grin. “But maybe you’re wrong.”
“Possibly.” I nodded. “I don’t really know anything about you.”
“I don’t know anything about you either. Most girls are pretty talkative about themselves. You’re not. You’re kind of a mystery.”
Tobias King thought I was a mystery.
That made me laugh, and his eyes widened as he watched me, his mouth curling up at the corners in that way it was wont to do in lieu of an actual smile. “I’ve never seen you laugh before.”
Did he think I was some emo, miserable teenager incapable of it? “It’s been known to happen once in a while.”
This time he full-out grinned at my dry tone. “Apparently.”

“Please.” She wasn’t above begging. “I’ve waited so long.”

“I won’t bite you,” he said, his face sliding down between her legs. A fang nipped at the sensitive artery in her inner thigh. “But I bloody well want to.”

Did she even care if he bit her? It would be a relief after what she’d endured. A relief to feel that connection so acutely. But she wouldn’t press him this time. She remembered how they’d gotten carried away. He’d taken too much, drank too deeply, and she could have died. They needed to take it slow.

The blood. Not the sex. She needed that right now.

His finger slicked through her wetness and began to massage her clit. She vibrated from the sensation. She didn’t know if she’d be able to hold out before he was inside of her.

Then his eyes found hers again. His boxers disappeared and then his cock was in his hand. He massaged the length of himself as he watched her walk on a tightrope. Any second she was going to fall off and into oblivion. Nothing and no one had ever made her feel so good. No. No one had ever made her feel.

“So . . . close,” she ground out.

One powerful thrust seated him to the hilt within her. She cried out as he stretched her to the max. No warning or preamble just his cock inside of her, filling her to completion.

Her walls clenched around him. She was so close, but instinctively, she knew he wasn’t going to let her release without him.

Then he started moving. A slow pull out and a quick drive inward. Once, twice, three times.

“Not yet,” he said, his eyes commanding.

She tried to hold back. She could wait. Oh God, she could wait.

Then he started up the rhythm again. Setting his own course, owning and claiming her body. Reclaiming everything that he’d lost in that one moment of stupidity on her part. In his one moment of weakness.

She could see in his eyes the weight that loss had cost him. The toll it had taken on him for giving into his urges, for finally relinquishing his hold on himself. His eyes said he’d never do it again. His eyes were a promise.

“Becks, come with me,” she cried, clutching the sheets.

He grasped her hips and owned her body where he refused to own her blood. Taking everything she would give him, but not everything he wanted. Not everything she wanted.

She was so close. She looked in his eyes and knew they would finish together.

Reyna woke up screaming.

She jolted upright in her overly plush king-sized bed with its too many pillows and too much softness. Her hair was plastered to her face. Sweat coated her body, soaking through the thin white shirt she’d worn to bed.

Her eyes adjusted to the dim lighting and she looked around the small room. Everything was in place. Nothing had changed. Not a damn thing.

Beckham wasn’t here.

It had been a dream. A sick dream. A desperate horrible dream.

Her hand moved to her cotton panties and found the slicked wetness still there. The ache still building in her lower half from lack of release. The aftereffects of the dream. It had felt so real. So very real.

She had felt him moving inside of her. She had seen the love in his eyes. She had known his remorse.

But none of that was real.

That was her imagination at work. Conjuring his face just to torture herself with his absence. Remembering the feel of his body and the love in his eyes, only to know that he hadn’t found her. Aching for one more view of him.

It had been fifty-five days since she’d last seen his face.

Reyna made a mark in the notebook next to the bed.

Fifty-six.

Holy Hell!! Kyla – you have definitely outdone yourself with this series!! WOW I am loving that this series is very unique in it’s tale and the spin that Kyla is taking on with vampires. It just makes this series so much enjoyable.

Blood Match starts out with a bang (or fang lol) and not once does this story line ease up at all. WOW! I love the pace of this story so much – pulse pumping and so intriguing. I felt my heart racing the entire time I read this book – so engaging and enticing.

Blood Match starts off where Blood Type ends. Reyna finds her in the prison of Visage – she is truly what she signed up for – a blood donor. However, it’s not the in way she anticipated, not that she minds in anyway. However, Reyna feels that he life is nothing since she does the same thing day in and day out with no escaping it. Until she is given the chance to see another side of Visage.

Reyna thinks things couldn’t be worse than they already are for her but has no idea how truly depraved and conniving Harrington really is. Beckham is trying to keep up pretenses with everything while also trying to win Reyna back into his good graces.

Kyla does not let us down at all with the second book in this series. There is so much still going on within this world and so many questions about things. I love all the new twist and turns she gives us. Kyla leaves us hanging on to each page as we read, desperate to know where things go from here. And that ending – OMG!!! I need book three NOW!!!

A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.

For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.

In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.

Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.

For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.

Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

Chasing Him by Kennedy Fox….Release Blitz & Review

John Bishop isn’t your typical single dad.

Reserved, impatient, and utterly clueless.

Running the family’s bed and breakfast has many perks. Working long hours, picking up after the guests, and hearing couples going at it all night long aren’t any of them. Hooking up with girls who come to the ranch for horseback riding lessons? Best perk of them all.

That is until a baby shows up at his doorstep with a note claiming it’s his. Growing up on a ranch was anything but easy, but raising a newborn is proving to be the hardest task he’ll ever tackle. Leaving the bachelor life behind, his only priority is to hire a nanny who can teach him a thing or two about parenting—except he doesn’t anticipate her being gorgeous and quirky with an unhealthy football obsession.

Mila Carmichael has many talents—making balloon animals, creating origami art, and remaining in the friend zone. Often seen as one of the guys, she’s struck out more times than a rookie baseball player.

Seeking a new adventure, she flies to Texas to visit family and is offered a position she can’t refuse. Helping out a new dad should come easy to her, considering her past experience, but what she doesn’t anticipate is him being an attractive Southern temptation.

But that’s only the beginning.

While growing close to his family and falling madly in love with the baby girl who’s stealing their hearts, things are bound to get complicated. Everyone knows not to mix business with pleasure. That means no late movie nights, no stolen glances, and definitely no kissing behind closed doors. Too bad the universe has other plans—one that’ll threaten taking away the main thing that binds them together.

John’s POV

As soon as I walk into the living room, I see Mila in tight blue jeans and a low cut shirt that shows way too much cleavage.

“Nope.” Resting my hands on my hips, I look at her, trying not to stare at her chest. It doesn’t help that her nipples are hard as a damn rock either. Fuck. Eyes up.

“Nope, what?” she asks, furrowing her brows in confusion as she grabs Maize out of the swing.

“You can’t wear that shirt. Actually, we should probably set some ground rules since you’ll be staying here around the clock.”

Mila rolls her eyes and kneels down in front of the carseat. She’s dressed Maize in an outfit that says something about Grandma being her favorite, and I know Mama is going to love it. “Is that what you do ‘round here? Make rules for everyone?” She arches an eyebrow with a cocky smirk on her face.

Tilting my head, I narrow my eyes and study her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Ask Jackson.” She carefully places Maize in the car seat and straps her in. I suck in a deep breath remembering the nanny rules I’d given Jackson, the ones she wasn’t supposed to hear.

“Jackson needs rules. He has zero boundaries. And it’s not like he listens to anyone anyway. Trust me. It’s an open invitation to flirting and ridiculous comments from him. So you can’t be wearing shirts like that around him.”

“…or I can’t be wearing shirts like this around you?” she quips, not paying any attention to how frustrated I’m becoming. “I think I can handle Jackson, so stop worrying yourself.”

“Whatever, Mila.”

She straightens up and looks me dead in the eyes. “You’re my boss and you can make any crazy rules you want when it comes to your baby, but you don’t get to tell me what I can and can’t wear, unless you’re instating a dress code for me and if that’s the case, I want a raise and a clothes allowance then.”

I scoff, crossing my arms over my chest that’s rising and falling rapidly. “How much for you to wear baggy overalls and turtlenecks every day?”

“You’ve got jokes, do you?” she mutters, not amused. “Why not just put a chastity belt on me too while you’re at it?”

I grunt, thinking that’s not a bad idea actually.

While I am still patiently waiting for my favorite Bishop Brother to get his book, I was pleasantly surprised with John’s story.

The duo of Kennedy Fox definitely kept me on my toes with John’s book. He and Jackson may be identical twins, but that is where everything stops with them. John is the more reserved and more responsible one where Jackson is all about being the life of a party.

So when a baby shows up on their front porch, no one is more surprised than John to learn that the baby is his. So when running the B&B and trying to raise a child on his own (even with the help of family), he realizes he needs helps with Maize and hires a nanny – Mila.

Mila is visiting her grandparents and needed the time away from her best friend who she’s been harnessing feelings for. She always known he does not reciprocate her feelings but being friend-zoned for so long and then finding out he is going to become a daddy and possibly propose – yea, it was time for a change of scenery. However, her visit turns into her staying longer and becoming Maize’s nanny.

What neither of these two expected was the hot as hell attraction to one another. John does his best to not pursue Mila (minus the alpha tendencies toward Jackson lol) but it’s mostly out of being scared and not because she is the nanny. However, Mila is done being friend-zoned and knows she won’t be in Texas forever.

As much as this book was a slow-burn romance between these, there was a lot going on to that kept this book moving at the perfect pace. We had all the brothers and their significant others present along with Jackson to keep things interesting and entertaining.

Now I am patiently waiting for my fave Bishop brother to get his book – Jackson. This should be the most entertaining of them all!

The Way We Burn by Michelle Leighton….Release Day Blitz & Review

Blurb:

THE WAY WE BURN
M. Leighton

Irresistible attraction. Unimaginable danger.

I knew from the moment Noah Williamson walked into the diner that he was haunted—deeply haunted—but I couldn’t resist the lure of him. He was gorgeous and fascinating and mysterious, and like a delicate moth to a brilliant blue flame, I was drawn to him. Drawn to his fire.
But if I’d known about his job, about what happened to his wife, I’d have run the other way. Before I got caught up in the red-hot blaze of his life. Before everything in my world got burned to the ground.
It’s too late to run now. I hesitated and that was it. I fell. I fell for him before I knew there was danger in loving him.
Noah once told me that this is the way we burn—together or not at all. At the time, I didn’t know what that meant.

Now I do.

The Way We Burn is a love story…with a kicker! Suspense, chemistry, and twists galore, I can’t wait for you to jump in! But don’t be afraid. This is a stand alone VERY romantic story with a VERY satisfying ending. I promise:) xoxo M

CHAPTER ONE
NOAH

Maryland, eighteen months ago

“Mind going over the story with me one more time?”
I stare at the detective. I see the disdain in his eyes. I see the disbelief. He came here with his mind made up. I’m suspect number one and we both know it. What we both don’t know is that I did nothing to my wife. I would never hurt her. I don’t think I could even if I had to, even if she was trying to hurt me. She is the only woman I’ve ever loved, the only person whose happiness means more to me than my own.
Except for our daughter.
Her happiness would’ve meant more to me than my own, too.
Would’ve.
Past tense.
Grief slices through my chest like a scalpel. Clean. Neat. Surgical. Like someone is cutting out my heart.
Five months ago, we lost our daughter. And now I’ve lost Carly. How the hell is a man supposed to live through something like this? A child. Then a spouse. This is the shit nightmares are made of.
And I would know. I’ve seen nightmares. Up close. Personal. The kind that sink their teeth in and leave marks. Wounds. Scars.
Sweat beads on my upper lip. I’ve never felt such an intense sense of loss, so much pain. So much helpless, hopeless agony.
A few months ago, I’d have said a person couldn’t bear hurt like this. I’d have said the human body couldn’t take it.
But I’d have been wrong.
It can.
I’m proof. I’m still alive, still standing. Damned if I know how, but I am. Even when I’d rather not be, I am. And now, on top of everything else, I’m being questioned like a felon. I’m the primary suspect in my wife’s disappearance, and every second they spend focusing on me is another second she’s further from being found.
But there’s nothing I can do to change that. It’s Basic Detecting 101. The husband is suspect numero uno. Why? Because it usually is the husband. I know that. I also know there will be no convincing them otherwise.
Maybe if I could split my chest wide open, they’d believe me. Maybe if they could see what I’m feeling, see the bruised and bleeding thing that used to be my heart, they’d understand. Maybe if they could physically see what this is doing to me, they’d look beyond the obvious. But outside of that, there’s nothing I can say to make them understand. That’s why there’s an edge to my voice when I answer this asshole’s questions. I may not be able to change it, but I sure as hell don’t have to like it.
“It’s not a ‘story’, Detective. It’s the truth. Carly left for work Tuesday morning at seven. She said she had an early meeting. I texted her at lunch to see if she needed me to bring anything from the store. She didn’t answer. I haven’t seen or heard from her since that morning. And that was almost sixty hours ago.”
Sixty hours. That’s twelve hours after “we’ve got a good chance of finding her”, and twelve hours before “hope for the best, but expect the worst.” The window is closing.
“Had you two fought before she left?”
There’s a dull throb just above the bridge of my nose. I pinch it between my index finger and thumb. “No, we hadn’t fought. We don’t fight anymore. At all. I told you we’ve both been recovering from…from…”
I can’t make the words come out. They’re stuck in my throat like tar—black and sticky and foreign. Bitter.
“The death of your daughter. Right, right. I feel you,” he placates, making more notes on his pad. “But they never recovered her body, isn’t that right, Mr. Williamson?”
My eyes snap up to his. Surely to God he’s not insinuating…
Zero to sixty in one second. In one sentence. That’s how long it takes my blood to come to a hard boil. Like lava down a mountainside, it rushes through my veins in a thick, hot river, destroying trees and grass and flowers and life as it goes. Killing off a little more of what was left of me.
I take a deep breath, striving for cool. Or even tepid. Anything but the blazing rage that’s pumping through me.
“Detective, I’m a patient man. I work for the FBI, so I understand how this process works. I also understand that I’m at the top of your list of suspects, so I get it. I get it. But let me make one thing crystal clear.” I take a step forward. “My daughter was killed. My child is dead. So while I have agreed to jump through all your hoops, make no mistake. My tolerance has its limits and you are dangerously close to finding out what happens when my patience runs out. I’ve got nothing left to lose. Not one thing, so wiping the floor with your smug ass might actually improve my situation. You feel that?” The last is hissed through teeth clenched so tight my jaws ache. I’m practically spitting down into his face, my chest close enough to bump his if I take a deep enough breath.
I can tell by the set of his lips and the narrowing of his eyes that I’ve pissed him off. But I can also tell that he’s not fool enough to press me one more inch right now. Not one more. It’s there in the way his pupils swell. It’s there in the way his nostrils flare. He won’t push me. He’s smarter than that.
My daughter is dead.
My wife is missing.
There’s nothing left. Nothing that matters. There’s nothing they can take from me or threaten me with. Surely this pathetic lackey knows what I know from years and years of experience—men like me are unpredictable.
Unpredictable and dangerous.

First off, I want to thank Michelle for reaching out and asking me to read this book before she even sent it out to bloggers to review. I am humbled that she would trust me and my opinion enough to ask this of me.

The Way We Burn is a book unlike any of Michelle’s previous work and I know that she took a risk not only writing this but choosing to release it. I am beyond thrilled that she took this leap and wrote a truly amazing story that will leave you gasping.

This review will be extremely vague because this is another book that you need to go into it blind; no preconceived ideas, notions or expectations. Without the risk of sound too cheesy, this book will burn you from inside out (ok, so it was cheesy but it is so true!!)

Mister Tonight by Kendall Ryan..Blog Tour & Review

From New York Times bestselling author Kendall Ryan comes a standalone romance about a swoony single dad and the new neighbor he falls for.

Last night was the most embarrassing night of my life.

I was THAT girl.

You know, the highly intoxicated chick celebrating her thirtieth with her two best friends—the ones who are happily married. And the more I drank, the more I wanted to do something reckless to celebrate.

By reckless, I meant the sexy and alluring man dressed in a business suit standing near the bar. You know his type—tall, dark, and handsome. I was sure he was out of my league, but I’d had just enough alcohol that things like that no longer seemed to matter. I’m not fat, mind you, but you can tell I like French fries, so there’s that.

He took me home and I enjoyed the hottest birthday sex of my life, well until it came to a screeching, and rather unwelcome halt.

There’s nothing quite like being interrupted mid-ride with a little voice asking:

“What are you doing to my daddy?”

Just kill me now…… or so I thought.

Come to find out the man I rode like a bull at the rodeo is my new landlord.

Mister Tonight is another perfect example of what Kendall excels at – writing really sweet and romantic stories.

This book starts off with Hunter and Kate meeting at a bar and having a one night fling – except things get interrupted mid-sexy time and thus ending anyone getting their happy ending.

As the blurb tells you, Kate ends up being Hunter’s tenant. However, things don’t just go right into them being hot and sexy immediately. Oh no, no, no. Kate was not lying when she said she was commitment-phobe. She is truly excited to finally live on her own with no roommates and live her single life, even with her landlord being the one night stand, interrupted.

I love that Kendall has both Hunter and Kate acting very mature about things and never muddling shit up. They are both upfront on how they feel and keeping things no-strings. I need to say one thing that I really loved so much about this book was Kate’s aloof approach on her causal hook-ups. I love that she owned who she was and was not apologetic about it; BUT I also loved the Hunter did not look at her any differently, if anything, he liked her even more for being confident in what she wanted in life and not holding back because of society’s view. OK – enough about that, but just wanted to point that out because that made me love Kate (and Kendall) even more.

Kendall played this book out perfectly. While the book was fast-paced, everything played out naturally. Nothing was rushed, there was no unnecessary drama and the sexy times were HOT!!! Another great romance from Kendall!

.
Title: Captivated
Authors: Tessa Bailey & Eve Dangerfield
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 11, 2018
.
Blurb
Secret aspiring comedian Autumn Reynolds is a girl gone…not wild exactly. More like lazy. Since her boyfriend abandoned her in New York City for a bunch of improv groupies she’s had two priorities; sucking the nitrous out of whipped cream cans and making sex comics about her mysterious landlord.

Blake hates people—and sunlight—with good reason. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself lusting after his upstairs tenant, a sunny, Australian people pleaser down on her luck. Turns out his ability to terrify with a single scowl comes with an advantage. Autumn seems to like it. A lot. As evidenced by the prisoner-captive comic Blake was never meant to see.

As they embark on a three-date arrangement the rules are clear; filthy, ground breaking sex, no feelings or commitment required. When chemistry is this strong, though, attachment follows. As Blake and Autumn attempt to negotiate their New York romance, their prior histories and secret dreams come to the foreground. How long can these polar opposites remain Captivated, when all signs point to disaster?

My Review:

I have two words for you all: YES PLEASE!

As many of you already know, I’m a huge Tessa Bailey fan, so I’ll read anything she writes. Even her grocery list. On the flip side, I have never read Eve Dangerfield. (I know, I know. I’m totally missing out.) Anyway, I knew if Tessa was writing with her, Eve had to be just as great as Tessa was.  Well, I’m here to tell you guys that in fact, she sure as hell is and I LOVED this book so damn much!

Now, I will say that whenever two writers team up, I’m that reader who tries, with every page, to decipher which author wrote what parts.  And while I’m fairly certain Eve was the voice of the heroine and Tessa was the voice of the hero, it all flowed so damn well and I so enjoyed having those two voices on the pages.  It was a like those delicious Ben and Jerry pints with the different flavor core and you get to go back and forth to both delectable flavors while eating. (of course I have a photo for you below…)

That being said, these two characters and this story…the term HOLY HOTNESS doesn’t even begin to cover it.  Even if I typed it in all caps, bold, and underlined.  You can bet your behind there will be some audible groaning when you read this book.  But on top of all that delicious heat, I loved Autumn and Blake.  They have a Beauty and the Beast vibe I adored and they are both so multifaceted you feel as if they’re real.  I loved loved loved their story and I know you will too.  Just remember…uncontrolled groaning and blushing while reading is a guaranteed side effect 😉

Tessa and Eve, you gals nailed it! I sure hope you’ll team up again and again because I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Five Loves

If this Tessa and Eve book was an ice cream…

Tessa Bailey

Tessa
Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.
Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.
She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of ten years and six-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in
love.
Eve Dangerfield
Eve Dangerfield has loved romance novels since she first started swiping her grandmother’s paperbacks. Now she writes her own sexy tales about complex women and gorgeous-but-slightly-tortured men. Her work has been described as ‘the defibrillator contemporary romance needs right now,’ and not by herself, or even her mum, but by OTHER PEOPLE.
Eve lives in Melbourne with her boy, a bunch of semi-dead plants and a rabbit named Billy. When she’s not writing she can be found making a mess.

If Henry gave her a minute, they would be back to polite. He wouldn’t find out if she could want him in an honest way. “Win, I’m an alcoholic. I’m divorced, and it wasn’t some thoughtful conscious uncoupling. It was nasty and ugly. I’m a lawyer who doesn’t give a shit if his clients are guilty or not as long as they have the money to pay me. I have gotten off people who probably went back out into the world to do terrible things, and I’ll probably do it again because I believe in this system. It’s imperfect, but it’s better than anything else. And I’m too old for you.”

She snorted, an oddly amusing sound. “I’m not some shrinking virgin. I’m twenty-nine, and I’ve been around the block a couple of times and with some men I wish I hadn’t ever gotten into the car with. How old are you? Forty?”

He winced. “Thirty-seven.”

Her lips curled up, and it was worth the blow to his ego. “Well, you don’t look a day over forty, and that’s a pretty nice age for a man. You think you don’t deserve such a young, hot chick?”

Thank god she was teasing him again. He’d hated the way her shoulders had slumped when she’d thought he’d rejected her. But still, he had to be honest. If he was going to do this, she would get the new Henry. “I think I could hurt a woman like you if I’m not careful.”

“Then be careful with me, Henry Garrison,” she said, moving closer to him. “And I’m a big girl. I can make my own decisions and live with them. I would like to spend the night with you. It doesn’t have to last beyond tomorrow. I’m not asking to be your girlfriend. I’m asking you to help me get through the night, to help me get that nightmare out of my head, so I can feel safe for the first time in months. It’s been a long time since I felt safe.”

That he could do. She moved in close, right between his legs, and he reached up and cupped her face, holding her still as he looked into her eyes. So much fucking innocence. He didn’t care what she’d been through. She was way too young for him, but she’d said yes and he wasn’t a saint. Not even close. “Be sure. I might want more than one night. I’m here for a few weeks. I could use this. I could use some time with you.”

It wouldn’t work long-term. When he finished up and got back to the city, he wouldn’t have time to spend with her, and she deserved that. He would be knee-deep in the sewer again. It wasn’t a place he would take her, but he could be what she needed here.

“I could use some time with you,” she replied. “You’re right about a few things. I haven’t ever been around a man like you. The men I’ve been with have been boys who cared more about their images than they did about pleasing me. I think it might be different with you. I know you’re trying to scare me off with all that ‘I screwed up my life’ stuff, but I get that. You can’t make me run, or I would run away from myself. Tell me if you can make me forget about everything except what you’re doing to my body because tonight that’s all I want.”

Oh, he could do that. He might not be able to feed her soul, but he could work her body all fucking night long.

Lexi Blake is on my list of authors who I immediately read when she releases a book, no matter the price. I feel in love with her writing when I started her Masters and Mercenaries series. While that series is definitely more on the BDSM level mixed with her romantic suspense, this new series isn’t as intense in the erotic area.

Order of Protection is the start of new series and Lexi starts this one out on the right foot. Lexi definitely had my emotions running amok in this one – and it’s most likely not what you are thinking.

Henry and Win are both recovering from a disease that controlled them – he was an alcoholic and she an anorexic. These two are both broken individuals trying to find control in their life and move forward from their problems. Win and Henry were only suppose to be a brief affair and never to see one another again. However, reality has a different plan for them. And when Win calls upon Henry for help, his true self comes out.

Henry did a number on my emotions – I have to say that most of the time I wanted to rip his balls off and shove them down his throat. The way he treated Win when he realized who she was had my hackles up. Even now as I am writing this, I am so pissed off at him. ARGH!!

What I loved even more was Win not once took his shit – she refused to be his damn doormat. She is straight forward and argued him to the bone. Win is a fighter and a survivor and not even this problem was going to take her down with a battle. I love Win so much – can ya tell?!?

Lexi plays this story out beautifully – it has the suspense, romance and the sexiness (though not as spicy as Masters and Mercenaries but still damn good). She blends it all together with some great characters to deliver one hell of a great book.

Order of Protection is the perfect book for her new readers to discover why so many of us love her and it’s also a great book for her current fans to fall in love with a whole new series. Lexi has this ability that she blends suspense and romance perfectly without either overruling the other. I love her writing so much.

NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband, three kids, and the laziest rescue dog in the world. She began writing at a young age, concentrating on plays and journalism. It wasn’t until she started writing romance and urban fantasy that she found the stories of her heart. She likes to find humor in the strangest places and believes in happy endings no matter how odd the couple, threesome, or foursome may seem.

EXCERPT:

“How long have you lived at Court, Diana?”

She leans forward, bracing her forearms against the edge of the table. Her features are hard, her face angular. I think she just permanently looks angry. “For about three hundred years.”

“And you were born here, yes?” I prompt.

She nods.

I smile, nodding. “I would like to tell you a story, Diana,” I say, mirroring her posture. “A story of when our kind very first came into being. When my husband made himself into the ultimate hunter, but also cursed himself with the craving of blood.”

Diana’s eyes widen a bit and her entire body tightens slightly.

“I watched in horror as he hunted down his first human. I saw his tears as they fell down his face in remorse. Cyrus, the first vampire, like yourself, craved blood and he could not resist the urge to drink. So people went missing and the rumors began to spread in our town.”

I can picture it all. Every detail. Every memory. The beginnings when I wore the face of Sevan and had never died a single death.

But in this moment, I pay exact attention to my words. I control every line and every thought.

“And then when there were two of us, the whisperings grew louder. Dark eyes turned our direction. Our lives were torn apart. We had to leave, or we knew they would turn against us.”

I shiver as I think of that first night in the forest.

“We lived like animals in the woods,” I continue. “And every night, we moved, because always during the day, they hunted us through the forest. With knives and primitive weapons. We didn’t know how they would hurt us. For months and months we were driven from place to place, constantly pushed by fear.”

Diana sits there, very, very still. Frozen. She’s hardly even breathing as she listens to my story.

“After I gave birth, we were once more on the run. One of us would always kill, and most of the time we were not discovered, but the times we were…” I shiver, remembering the terror. “We were strong, we could defend ourselves, but it was the two of us against the entire world. A population of billions.”

I look up and meet her eyes. I lean forward slightly, our faces only a foot apart.

“Roter Himmel was a god-send,” I say. “After years of living in fear and uncertainty, we had somewhere safe. Somewhere we did not have to hide what we were. We grew our family here. We loved and cherished here.”

I sit back, my eyes darkening. “There are over eight billion people in this world, Diana,” I say straight and blunt. “There are roughly fifty-thousand vampires, Born, Royal, or the few Bitten left, throughout the world. There are forces at work in this moment that are trying to destroy Roter Himmel. They would expose our kind to the world, perhaps to change the system. To create a new monarchy. Perhaps to attempt to take over the world.”

I sit forward again, locking my eyes on hers. “Fifty-thousand of us, eight billion of them. I’m not willing to take on those odds and lose the peace and protection of Roter Himmel. Are you willing to take that risk, Diana?”

Her expression has been going slack, slowly, over this entire story time. Her eyes are open, her lips slightly parted.

“We all look the same, loyal or betrayer,” I say. “This may take some time. But if even one of them slips through the cracks, it could mean the end of us all. Are you ready to take the risk, Diana?”

She blinks five times, as if clearing the fog of my story from her brain. “No,” she whispers.

“Do you want to be hunted one day, 160,000 to one?” I ask her.

“No,” she immediately says.

“Do you understand why I must be careful and thorough?”

“Yes, my Queen.” She says it with a little bow of her head.

Crown of Ruin is the third book in Keary’s Crown of Death series, which is within the House of Royals world. I am really enjoying this series just as much as I did the first series in this world, which is saying a lot.

Crown of Ruin starts off exactly where Crown of Blood ended – the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers – Cyrus is dead. He isn’t resurrecting after a few hours – the man was beheaded. Now Sevan/Logan must figure out how to prevent Roter Himmel from erupting in chaos and having the Crown overthrown.

However, Keary has more than that to worry about. King Cyrus has always lead the Court, he has always been the ruler. The All Mother, Queen Sevan has only ever ruled along side him. So now it is up to Logan/Sevan to prove the Royals within Roter Himmel that she can lead them just as well as King Cyrus. All the while, trying to figure out who is behind the king’s death and who can be trusted in her Court.

Keary is definitely moving this series in the perfect direction. I love how this book goes from passing of Cyrus, to showing the true strength of Logan with multiples lifetimes of Sevan to take her stance as the All Mother, Queen of Vampires.

I read this book extremely quickly but everything plays out a perfect pace. I love the new angles that Keary adds into this series and how it blends perfectly into another amazing cliffhanger. While I did figure out who was behind it all, there were additional things that did take me by surprise which I loved more than knowing that I was right in who it was. I can’t wait to see how she plays the next book out.

Lei couldn’t breathe. Her chest closed painfully as if she’d been knocked flat on her back, and her lungs burned with the need for oxygen. Somewhere in the tiny rational corner of her mind, she knew there was nothing really wrong with her, but rational thought had no place in the midst of her panic.

He’s back. Emma was right all along and he’s coming for us.

Stop.

You’re spiraling.

Travis Berkley is still in jail. This is a copycat, and no matter how bad a copycat is, he can’t be worse than Travis. You survived before. You will this time, too.

A whine cut through her thoughts, and then Saul was there, nudging her hand with his cool nose. She inhaled sharply, suddenly aware that everyone in the room was staring at her. The Feds had the blank-slate expression she’d come to associate with cops when they were in a difficult situation. Emma looked at her as if she was on the verge of her own panic attack.

Lei stroked her hand over Saul’s head, forming a wall of indisputable facts in her mind to keep the fear at bay. She wasn’t twenty-one anymore, only a couple of years out of the stifling family home she’d grown up on, still drunk on freedom and the realization that she could do anything she wanted to with her future.

She’d been an idiot. A child who was playing dress-up without realizing the pitfalls of adulthood.

Though most pitfalls don’t come attached to a knife.

Lei wasn’t that girl anymore. She’d seen the worst Travis Berkley could offer and had the scars to show for it. She could shoot. She could fight. She’d worked with enough cops over the course of her career as a trainer and search team that she had an inside view to how their minds worked.

She would not lose herself to terror.

Another stroke to Saul’s head and she was able to speak. “How close to the original murders are the details?”

Agent Young exchanged a glance with his partner and leaned forward, bracing his elbows on his knees. His big hands dangled between his legs, and she distantly noted that he had really firm thighs beneath the expensive slacks. He spoke slowly, as if gauging her response. “We haven’t had a chance to check the original case files, but the big details are almost identical. The murders were performed in the same way—girls kept in a main room and taken out individually. We think he snuck in through a window, because their condo was on the second floor and he used a knife from the kitchen.”

She could almost hear Travis’s voice in her head, even after all these years. Let me in, Lei-Lei. I have a surprise for you. Stupid. She’d been so incredibly stupid, swayed by a pretty face and a boy her parents would approve of who made her feel. Smart, athletic, the right dollar amount in his family’s bank account. Someone bright and colorful and checking all the right boxes.

Since she couldn’t bring herself to ask if one of the girls let him in, she focused on the rest. “If this is a fan, he must have been in contact with Travis at some point.” She put her hand on Emma’s leg when her friend flinched at his name. The Feds didn’t react, which made her sigh. “But you already knew that. You don’t need me telling you how to do your job. What is it you need?”

Another loaded look between them. They’d obviously been partners for a long time, because they managed to convey an entire conversation’s worth of talking in a single look.

Again, it was Agent Young who took the lead. “We can find the details of the case easily enough, along with your accounts, but what I’d like to know is your take on Travis.”

“Because I dated him.” She stated it baldly, as if the fact she’d slept with a murderer was something she’d dealt with and moved on from. As if the fact didn’t still keep her up at night, moving beneath her skin until she wanted to take a wire brush to her body. There weren’t enough hot showers and bleach baths in the world to change the fact she’d willingly been with him. She could never take that back.

“Because you—both of you—have known him longer than anyone.”

“Agent Young—”

“Dante.”

She stopped short. Dante. It fit him somehow—strong and a little bit intense. He masked it well, but there was fire lurking in the depths of his dark eyes, in the way he clenched his fists as they spoke about Travis. She shouldn’t be forming personal opinions about any man, let alone one connected with the case. Lei’s track record had more than proven that fact.

While she was still trying to process her strange and seriously inconvenient reaction to him, Emma had found her voice. She spoke softly, her southern accent giving her breathy tone a pretty lilt. She had a Dolly Parton thing going for her—at least before Dolly got a little crazy for plastic surgery—and Emma wasn’t above playing up the sweet-southern-belle thing when it suited her. “Travis Berkley is a sociopath with a healthy dose of narcissistic personality disorder—which you already know because you read the file. Everything is in the file. We have been doing our best to get past what he did to us—to our sisters—and that means forgetting as much as possible.”

Maybe for Emma. Lei couldn’t afford to forget. It had been her mistake that tipped the first domino that destroyed so many lives. While it was possible Travis could have gotten into the house on his own, she’d been the fool who let him in her window.

The knowledge made her hands shake. Emma might want to do everything to avoid that gory walk down memory lane, but Lei didn’t have that option. Guilt wrapped around her throat, tightening, ever tightening. “You have something specific you’re here for.”

Agent Rowan leaned forward, a clear indication that she’d take it from there. As much as Lei wanted the calming force Dante—Agent Young—seemed to emanate, she turned almost gratefully to the redhead. She eyed her as if Lei was a particularly interesting bug. “We’re theorizing this fucker—”

Clarke.

She didn’t look at him. “These women have seen enough, Dante. You know as well as I do that a few choice curse words aren’t going to have them scrambling for their sniffing salts.”

Lei understood now why Britton had paired these two together. Clarke was the blunt force designed to set a person back on their heels so they were too busy reacting to her foul mouth to stop and think that there might be a shrewd mind behind those deceptively big blue eyes. Dante on the other hand, was a cool summer mist, unruffling feathers and putting everyone in the room at ease with his calm presence. Both agents would be underestimated in different ways, which was only to their benefit.

Clever.

She eyed the dogs on the floor. Neither of them seemed overly concerned with the Feds in the room. Good. Lei had more than proven she could be fooled, but Saul couldn’t. Every time he reacted poorly to a person, she paid attention—and most of the time something eventually came to light to prove her dog’s instincts correct.

Clarke followed her gaze and then refocused on Lei and then Emma. “A lot of sociopaths think they’re smarter than everyone else in the room—some of them are even right—and Travis sure as hell falls into the latter category. His IQ is 167, and from all accounts, prison hasn’t broken him. What we need to know is if he’d encourage a fan to take these steps.”

“Of course he would. He’s a fucking psycho,” Emma snarled.

“What do you think?” Clarke was looking at Lei.

Because why not? Even now, cops thought Lei had some kind of inside track to the way Travis’s mind worked. She’d dated him for months, had slept with him countless times, and so she must have some insider knowledge to explain how the golden boy went so very, very wrong.

She hadn’t been able to give them a satisfactory answer then. She didn’t have one now, either. But she could try.

Katee Robert – you have outdone yourself with this book in this series. This is my favorite book so far in this series. I couldn’t stop reading (while I was awake). Hell, my brain even had me dreaming of this book.

The Surviving Girls gave me chills at so many points in this book – it was written that damn good. I got this sense that I was right there with these characters as this unwound this twisted path they were thrown onto.

I won’t give any details because you need to read this one blind (aside from the blurb). Lei and Emma survived that same brutal killings their friends unfortunately didn’t. But they both have moved on in different ways, but together.

But when a copycat killer starts things back up, they are thrown back into the thick of things. And even though it’s been over 10 years since they went through that whole ordeal, everything comes rushing back to them.

Katee wrote a very strong and intriguing plot. This book moves at the perfect pace; while everything may only happen in a few days time, it all makes sense and never feels rushed in any way.

The twists and turns are brought about very cleverly and she leaves just enough bread crumbs to string you along. I have so many different ideas as to who, what, why, how things happened. While I was right on one thing, it was how it played out that I was totally baffled on.

Bravo Katee for writing another amazing suspenseful read. You have this knack for writing books that keep your readers engaged and immensely emerged in the story.

If you haven’t read any of Katee’s books yet, I highly recommend giving this series a go!

Side Note – let me clarify something on all these books and it’s something that I have come to realize after now reading the third book. These books are classified as romantic suspense but there is very little romance in them; however due to the fact that there is some romance in them and due to standards, it can’t be listed as just a suspense/thriller. So please do not go into these books hoping for a lot of romance – it is definitely a subplot that is not really developed too much in the book, which I find to a be a great thing. The suspense and thrill are what really drives these books home.

Praise for The Hidden Sins Series

“…a captivating read, made all the more rewarding when good triumphs.”—Washington Post on The Devil’s Daughter

“Robert shows off her impressive versatility in this fast-paced and inventive new Hidden Sins series. The small-town setting is a masterful blend of quaint and oppressive, which ratchets the menace and thrill factor. The protagonists carry the full weight of their pasts with them, making their growing relationship as compelling as the mystery element in The Devil’s Daughter. With plenty of twists and betrayals, this is a book that is sure to earn Robert a wealth of new fans.” RT Book Reviews on The Devil’s Daughter

“Katee Robert has definitely picked up the romantic suspense genre and made it her bitch. I can’t wait to see what we get next. Given some of the books I see she’s been using for research, I know it’s going to be frightening and amazing at the same time.” —Goodreads Review

Mogul by Katy Evans
Publication Date: May 31, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Mogul Amazon-2 (1)

A brand new contemporary romance from New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans is AVAILABLE NOW!

He’s my most delicious secret.

The hot Suit I had a one-night stand with one evening.

I didn’t know anything about him, not even his name.

Only that we shared a taxi, and he was staying at the hotel where I worked.

We met in room 301. Where he commanded not only my body but my soul.

The next day he was gone and I only had a memory of him.

I could still taste his kisses, feel his demanding touch.

I searched for him for months. Daydreaming about him. Wondering if I’d ever find him.

Until the day I find myself staring face to face with his jeweled black eyes again.

He says lets keep it casual, and my heart knows that falling for this workaholic in a three-thousand-dollar suit is off the table.

Because he has a secret. One that’s a deal breaker for me.

My Suit has a name.

Ian Ford.

And this is our story.

My Review:

When I read Katy Evans’s Tycoon, secondary characters Ian and Sara jumped out at me like a neon sign. Ever since, I’ve not so patiently waited for their story. And when their book starts like this…
“Four Seasons concierge, this is Sara speaking.”
“Sara, this is the gentleman from room 1103.”
“Oh, yes. How can I help you, sir?”
“I’d like your panties in a little wad in my pocket and you thrashing in my bed.”
Blush. “Right away, sir.”
… I knew it would be a trip, and everything I hoped for.
Mogul follows alongside the same events in Tycoon, but this time from Ian’s and Sara’s perspectives, and those hints we got in the first book about how good they could be are finally fleshed out here, where Ian and Sara’s chemistry lives up to all the hype. Ian is a mega film and documentary producer; Sara works odd jobs to get by, but at heart she’s a dancer hoping to grace New York’s biggest stage, Broadway. Immediately, besides the sparks they send up off the page, the fact that in a way Ian and Sara are part of some of the same worlds gives them a connection. Similarly, Ian’s disillusionment after his marriage goes bust and Sara’s end of the fairy tale with her parents’ divorce adds another poignant parallel and asks the question, can either of them really trust in love?
What they do know is they can’t get enough of each other. And my favorite thing about Katy Evans is her ability to write an all-consuming love story that totally encapsulates and weaves through every page, and also stays with you love after the final words. The romance is the total focus of the book, as it should be. Her writing is easy, smooth, and poetic, like a dream. Everything fits together here carefully and with purpose. She’s known for her heroes, who are BIG in every sense, and Ian is every bit in good company with the Tycoon, the Manwhore, the Womanizer, and the Ladies Man. I consistently loved Sara’s character, a heroine who is ballsy, dirty, and goes after what she wants, in the workplace and in bed. She can lean on Ian and stand on her own two feet, be both strong and vulnerable.
It’s all the things I live for in a great love story, and so, so hot. The biggest, most powerful thing about Ian and Sara is their chemistry, what they’ll be known for. In romance, when we really want our hero and heroine to be made for each other, there’s nothing better than when the characters’ story you live for delivers on every count.

Five Loves
