BLURB:

I’ve fallen victim to a heinous act.

An act so vile, so downright dirty, that I’m not sure as a twenty-year-old man I’ll ever recover. Brace yourself, because what I’m about to tell you might have you gasping in secondhand horror.

Ready? Here it goes . . .

I’ve recently become the pawn of a meddling mom.

Yes . . . A MEDDLING MOM–who’s been trying to set me up all summer.

Now, I understand it’s not a crime for a mother to want her child to fall in love, but when she makes it her relentless MISSION, the heinous act should be classified as a misdemeanor at least.

Of course, my mom, the evil matriarch in the devil’s leggings, made her final stab at finding a girl for me days before I went back to college.

And I hate to admit it, but she saved a doozy for last.

A titan in black skinny jeans.

A boss of nonchalance.

And a girl who would not only turn my life upside down, but do it while juggling a soccer ball, looking effortlessly gorgeous around campus, and is one hundred percent against relationships. Of any sort.

Thanks, Mom.

PROLOGUE:

**LINCOLN**

I’ve fallen victim to a heinous act.

An act so vile, so downright dirty, that I’m not sure . . .

as a son,

as a member of society,

as a twenty-year-old man . . . I will ever recover.

Ever.

I see the concern in your eyes, your hand wandering up your chest to clutch the collar of your sensible cotton shirt, scared to find out the truth.

Brace yourself against something sturdy, because what I’m about to tell you might just knock you back on your ass in horror.

*Deep breaths, everyone*

I’ve recently become the pawn of a meddling mom.

Yup, you read that right. A MEDDLING mom.

The bane of a son’s existence.

I know what you’re wondering . . . what did she do? Make me pick up my socks during summer break?

*Eye-rolling*

*Woe is you*

*Grow up*

You grow up!

Ehhh, that was a little harsh. But before you go and put your judgy face on, you need to know the difference between a nagging mom and a meddling mom.

A nagging mom is one who storms into the living room while you’re trying to watch the series finale of Game of Thrones, complaining about the dishes in the sink you swore you’d take care of once you found out who took the throne.

Nag, nag, nag—part of the daily routine of the person who birthed you, or in this case, one of two moms who adopted me.

But a meddling mom, oh boy. They’re a fresh kind of hell wrapped up in high-waisted leggings and muted tunics. This isn’t some everyday mom who texts you GIFs of squirrels playing with a hula hoop. Nope, meddling moms have an agenda.

An agenda that they believe benefits their children. But it really benefits them . . . and only them.

In this case, my mom’s agenda: get Lincoln to fall in love.

I understand it’s not a crime for a mother to want her child to fall in love, but let me tell you. When she makes it her mission when you’re home from college, it should be classified as a misdemeanor.

That’s right, all freaking summer, my mom has made it her duty to set me up with girl after girl, all of whom she’s met in our hometown Kalamazoo, Michigan. I’d like to say I’m exaggerating that she made a list and set me up with every eligible girl—one by one—but I’m not.

I saw the Excel spreadsheet on her computer.

Girls who were highlighted in red were a no-go.

Girls in green still had a fighting chance.

Girls in yellow? Apparently, I had lukewarm interaction with them, but they showed promise.

Why is she so desperate for me to fall head over heels?

Can you believe she’s been spending time on the Internet, researching relationship statuses of major league baseball players? Well, she has. Too much time. And she said she didn’t want me to end up forty, about to retire, with nothing to say for my life other than that I was able to throw a ball off a mound.

She also wants a girl to fawn over.

When my mothers were adopting, Mom hoped for a girl, but Mama hoped for a boy. Don’t get me wrong, my mom loves me more than anything—hence the meddling and nagging—but she always wanted to do girly things with me, like have tea parties, get our toenails done, shit like that.

Side note: I’ve done the pedicure thing with her, and it’s not that bad.

But she wants a daughter, and apparently, a daughter-in-law is the next best thing.

Which brings me back to my summer of “not love.” I wanted nothing to do with these girls and after my mom’s eighth attempt to set me up—yes, eight—I told her enough was enough. I was done.

And thankfully she listened . . . until the last Saturday before I left for school.

The evil matriarch in the devil’s leggings made her final stab at finding a girl for me.

And I hate to admit it, but she saved a doozy for last.

A fucking titan in black skinny jeans.

A boss of nonchalance.

And a girl who will not only turn my life upside down, but do it while juggling a soccer ball, looking effortlessly gorgeous, and is one hundred percent against relationships. Of any sort.

Thanks, Mom.

*Thumbs up*

Your meddling has made me absolutely miserable.

Meghan Quinn writes another homerun with The Setup (pun intended).

I loved this story and the characters so much. I loved watching Indie and Lincoln go through their trials and tribulations of college then onto furthering their sports careers.

Indie and Lincoln are some of the most levelheaded yet, at times quite frustrating characters I’ve read in a while. Lol But that’s what made me love them; they have so many authentic and genuine character attributes, it’s impossible to not love them.

Meghan does a great job of blending the second characters into this story without any of those scenes or characters overtaking the story line. It just brings more depth to the story and allows you to see the characters in other aspects.

The Setup flows perfectly and Meghan allows things to happen naturally. The timeline in this book works so well and Meghan writes it beautifully. She blends the humor, sports and romance aspects of this book perfectly. Oh and the moms, love them so much. ❤

Meghan delivers another flawless story with characters that readers are going to fall in love with.

Review…A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout

KFF- FB banner

“A perfectly woven tale rife with secrets, lies and seduction. Plenty of action with a perfect dose of snark. High Fantasy done the JLA way!” -Lily Alexander, author

A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire, the enthralling and epic second book in A Blood and Ash Series by New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, is available now.

KingdomofFleshandFire ebook

Is Love Stronger Than Vengeance?

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

A Choice….

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.

A Secret…

But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.

Excerpt

“We go home to marry, my Princess.”
As in get married?
To him?
Suddenly, I thought of all those girlish fantasies I’d had before I learned who I was and what was expected of me—daydreams given life because of the love my parents had for one another.
Never once did those little-girl dreams include a proposal that wasn’t remotely an actual proposal. Nor did they incorporate it being announced at a table full of strangers, half of which wanted me dead. And those dreams surely hadn’t involved what had to be the kingdom’s worst—and possibly most insane—non-proposal of marriage to a man currently holding me captive.
Perhaps I had some sort of ailment of the brain. Maybe I was experiencing hallucinations brought on by stress. After all, there had been so much painful death to process. His betrayal to deal with. And I’d just learned I was descended from Atlantia, a kingdom I’d been raised to believe was the source of all the evil and tragedy in the land. Stress-induced hallucinations seemed a far more believable reason than what was actually happening.
All I could do was stare at the larger hand holding my much smaller one. His skin was slightly darker than mine as if kissed by the sun. Years of wielding a sword with deadly, graceful precision had left his palms callused.
He lifted my hand to an indecently well-formed and full mouth. To lips that were somehow soft yet unrelentingly firm. Lips that had spun beautiful words into the air and whispered heated, wicked promises against my bare skin. Lips that had paid homage to the many scars that riddled my body and face.
Lips that had also spoken blood-soaked lies.
Now, that mouth was pressed against the top of my hand in a gesture that I would’ve cherished for an eternity and thought exquisitely tender just days or weeks ago. Simple things like hand-holding or chaste kisses had been forbidden to me. As were being wanted or feeling desire. I had long since accepted that I would never experience those things.
Until him.
I lifted my gaze from our joined hands, from that mouth that was already curving up on one side, hinting at a dimple in the right cheek, and from the slowly parting lips that revealed just a hint of fatally sharp fangs.
His hair brushed the nape of his neck and toppled over his forehead, and the thick strands were such a deep shade of black, it often shone blue in the sunlight. With high and angular cheekbones, a straight nose, and a proud, carved jaw, he often reminded me of the large, graceful cave cat I had seen once in Queen Ileana’s palace as a child. Beautiful, but in the way all wild, dangerous predators were. My heart stammered as my eyes locked onto his, orbs a shade of stunning, cool amber.
I knew I was staring at Hawke—

A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire is the second book in Armentrout’s Blood and Ash series. It starts off exactly where From Blood and Ash ended and if I dare say, is even more intriguing than the first one.

AKoFaF has even more character development and world building to keep in stride with the high fantasy genre. However, it’s needed to keep the plot moving along. Armentrout does a really phenomenal job of having the deep world building and time frame blend into the story line and add to it, instead of just coming across as filler. The depth is needed in order to understand the entire plot and what is to happen.

Poppy and Cas/Hawke are now thrown into a whole new scenario with them each having their own agenda but they somehow intertwine with the other. There is also this building chemistry between them that is going to blow up at any given moment. There is a lot of suspense not only in the plot, but in the underlying pull between Poppy and Cas. The angst is unreal in this book. It’s amazing to see Poppy learn more about herself and her abilities. We also get to delve deeper into Cas and who he is.

Along with Poppy and Cas, Armentrout has written some amazing secondary characters that add another layer to the story and brings some amusing moments to the story. Cas and Kiern have this bromance that is quite entertaining yet so endearing. It shows another side to who Cas is and has readers loving him even more.

While there is still a lot of world building in this book, readers will see a lot more action in this book. The pace is a lot smoother and things move a much faster pace. I think a lot of that is because there’s better balance in this book between the world building, the action scenes and the interactions between characters.

Armentrout always knows how to pull her readers in, keep them vested not only in the story but the characters and leaves them waiting with bated breath. We do get answers in this book, but we find ourselves having some many more new ones. I for one, cannot wait to see what the next brings us and how this all comes together.

Bravo Jennifer. You have written another top rated book to add your never-ending pile of top sellers.

Meet J.

This book definitely lived up to its hype!!! Chance Carter was everything I had hoped for and more!!

I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting. I didn’t want it to end but I also couldn’t read it fast it enough!!

Chance is the son of Jack F&%#in’ Carter from The Perfect Game series. Even if you never read the series (you will want to after you read this book), you will fall in love with Chance. Chance has put off one math course most of his college career because it’s not his strong suit but he needs to pass this class in order to play baseball.

Enter Danika – she is the only tutor on their college campus that has the ability to help Chance pass this class. However, after a bad incident involving another athlete the previous year, Danika wants nothing to do with athletes. She is feisty, holds nothing back and has no problem holding her own in any situation.

Yea – as much as these two try to deny the explosive chemistry that’s immediately felt, it’s impossible to ignore. But oh do they try. Danika has a boyfriend, one she’s been with for quite a few years. And Chance refuses to ever be someone who ruins another relationship.

Jenn writes a very angsty, raw, honest and real story. The interactions amongst all the characters, main and secondary, is very authentic. I loved how real these characters came across. They were honest in their feelings, accepted where they went wrong but were not overly dramatic for the sake of the story. These characters were just so genuine and real. I laughed, applauded and cheered so much throughout this book.

I loved every single bit of this story. There is not one thing I would change – NOTHING!!! I want to blab so much about this book but I don’t want to give anything away. This book is AMAZING!!! And I love how Jenn stealthy builds her next character up within this story without pulling away from the main plot. I cannot wait for Mac’s book and where his story go.

Jenn – Chance totally stole my heart and nailed this one out of the park (pun intended)!!

I’m a New York Times and USA Today best selling author of over 18 books! My goal is to write stories that you can get lost in, that will leave a smile on your face and a full heart. If you can forget about the real world while you’re reading and fall in love with my characters, then I’ve done my job. A lot of what I write has real life aspects in it, but that’s what makes the stories so relateable- the fact that they could happen to anyone… and have!

I live in California with my only son, Blake. If you can’t find me sitting behind a computer screen, then there’s a good chance I’m sitting in the bleachers of a baseball stadium watching him play. I love traveling to new places, meeting my readers and living life with the Real Jack Carter. ♡

I know you have a million books to choose from and I am humbled, grateful and thankful each time you choose to read one of mine, or tell someone else to read them. Thank you.

Blurb:
He was my foster brother.
He swore to protect me.
He failed.
They all failed.
I’m an open box of passé photographs, snapped in chaste daylight, but filtered in sepia. I’m the past that he tried to forget, and he was the future I needed. When he left six years ago, I screamed for him every night. But then it all stopped. My screams were suddenly muffled by cruelty, and further coaxed by pain.
But he has come back. He’s not the cute big brother I had a furtive crush on, or the bad boy, rich brat that I hated to love.
He’s the ruthless vice president of Wolf Pack MC, and he doesn’t answer to Royce Kane anymore.
He answers to Sicko.

First off, Amo – I am taking you up on that drink when we meet. WOW!!!

Second, you may have outdone yourself with this one. BRAVO!!

Third, this book will not be for everyone (but I highly urge everyone to read it). It is dark and twisted and a lot to digest. But it’s a fucking amazing book. I am blown away by how this story played out.

Intense. Hauntingly disturbing. Thrilling in multiple ways. Unimaginable. All-encompassing.

Those are just a few of the words that describe this book for me I have read a lot of dark and sinister books in my life. However, this is one that will stand out amongst all the others because of how well developed and well written this book is.

I really have no idea where to begin. I finished this book yesterday and I still can’t stop thinking about this book. Amo – you have left me speechless with this one. This book was so much more than I have ever anticipated.

This book is not for the faint of heart, but it will make you feel empowered by the time you finish it. There was so much that I had not anticipated when I read this book; the emotions, the unexpected ah-ha moments and the plot – WOW!! This book is a journey!! I will not give you one iota of details because you must experience this book without any prior knowledge of what happens.

Royce, AKA Sicko and Jade, AKA Duchess will notch themselves into your heart and soul. Their story is one for the books. It will stay with you long after you finish it and have you feeling as though you truly walked the path of these characters.

This book is edgy, thrilling and sexy all mixed into one dark thriller. You truly do not want to miss out on this one.

Review…Ritual by Kandi Steiner

“If Gossip Girl and Riverdale had a love child, it would be PSU.” — #1NYT Bestselling Author Rachel Van Dyken

Ritual by bestselling author Kandi Steiner is now live!

Written like your favorite drama television show, the Palm South University series has been called “a mix of Greek meets Gossip Girl with a dash of Friends.” Follow seven college students as they maneuver unrequited love, teacher/student romance, the tangles of “no strings” relationships, love triangles and more. Each “season” has six “episodes,” and just like when your favorite show hits Netflix, you can read just one episode at a time or binge the entire thing. With the perfect mix of angst, emotional romance, and romantic comedy, the Palm South University series is your next guilty addiction.

Drama. Lies. Sex.

Welcome to Palm South University.

The weather isn’t the only thing heating up in South Florida. At a school where fraternities and sororities don’t exactly play by the rules, relationships are bound to be tested. Parties and sex are definitely key ingredients in the Palm South recipe, but what happens when family issues, secret lives, and unrequited love get tossed in the mix?

Follow Cassie, Bear, Jess, Skyler, Erin, Ashlei, and Adam as they tackle college at a small, private beach town university. Written in television drama form, each episode of this serial will pull you deeper and deeper into the world of PSU.

Where the sun is hot and the clothes are scarce, anything can happen.

Excerpt:

“Do you have pole tomorrow?” he asks, checking his side mirror before he pulls onto the road.

“No, I need a rest day.”

“And it’s Sunday, so you wouldn’t have class, right?”

My suspicion rises. “No… but I do have Chapter at six.”

“Chapter…” he muses, side-eyeing me with a grin. “Damn sorority.”

I smack his arm playfully.

“Do you think you could skip it, just this once?”

“Probably not without a death threat from Ex,” I say seriously. “But… what are you proposing?”

We pull up to a red light, and Brandon bites his lip before turning to me. “The Bahamas.”

“The Bahamas?!”

“The Exumas, technically.”

“The Exumas,” I repeat, sounding like a freaking parrot at this point. “You’re proposing we go to the Exumas tonight,” I clarify. “As in… the place where you swim with pigs.”

“I was thinking more like the place where I fuck you on my yacht and drink fruity cocktails out of coconuts with you on the beach,” he says on a smirk, and the light turns green, making him turn back to the road with a shrug. “But if you’d rather swim with pigs…”

I laugh, shaking my head at the ridiculousness of it. I’m tempted to say We can’t just go to the fucking Bahamas, Brandon, but I know that’s a lie.

He has a yacht.

And more money than he knows how to spend.

Technically, we can go to the Bahamas.

I’m quiet for a long while, and Brandon glances at me from the corner of his eye before pulling into a random restaurant parking lot. It’s a Mexican diner, not even open yet, since it’s only ten in the morning. When he’s parked, he turns to me, grabbing my hands and pulling them into his lap.

“Look, we’ve both been busy this summer — you with your exec position in the sorority, and pole… me with this national client we’re in the bidding war for… both of us working hard at Okay, Cool after everything that went down in the spring with Kim… and now, school is back in session, it’s the last semester before you graduate, we’re both hard at work, and I just…”

He smooths his dark thumbs over my wrists, his eyes that are usually so intense, soft and vulnerable now.

“This might be our last chance to spend some real, quality time together before life gets even crazier than it already is.”

My heart melts into a puddle right there on the floorboard of his expensive ass car, and I lean over the console, kissing him long and hard.

“Let’s go to the Bahamas,” I whisper between kisses. “You’re right. Everything else can wait.”

He sighs, wrapping his arms around me until he’s pulling me into his lap. I squeal and laugh, but then my next breath is stolen by the erection growing in his slacks.

“This would be a lot easier on the yacht,” I say, rubbing the seam of my leggings against his hard-on.

“Maybe,” he says, sucking on my bottom lip and releasing it with a pop. His lips trail down my neck as my head rolls back. “But these windows are tinted, and you’re sexy when you say I’m right.”

Ritual is the fifth installment in the PSU series.  Yes, these books must all be read in order.  Each book has six episodes in them and the episodes give you POV from each of the characters.  It truly reads like you watching a show play out in front of you.  It is my guilty pleasure summer read and I cannot get enough of these characters.

When it comes to the PSU series, I never have a problem devouring these books in one sitting.  I get so caught up in the all drama, the inner workings of sororities and fraternities along with the dynamics between everyone.  This series is one of my top 5 favorites written and we aren’t done yet!!

Ritual is the start of a new semester for all these college kids.  Some will be graduating this semester and while others have another year or so to go.  Many have grown in new ways while others are still trying to find their way.

I normally go through each character but realize all that does is summarize what happens and that takes away from the experience when a readers knows it is going to happen.  Just know that there is a lot that goes on and being that Kandi is queen of angst, she does not let us down in that department at all.

I will tell you these few things:

Cassie  – she surprises me and comes across as somewhat selfish in how she handles a situation.

Adam – that boy a heart of gold.  That’s all I am saying

Jess- she has me fist-bumping her and cheering her on.

Asheli – girl shocked me. I am torn up on this one.

Skyler – love her so much!!

Bear – he made me the most emotional this time around.  I want to bearhug him so hard.

Erin – I am still undecided on her.  She’s the one I struggle with the most.

As always – just when we think things are going to go one way, Kandi tosses in a few stumbling blocks.  Now we are left on bated breath wondering what happens with these seven college friends in the future.

PSU is a series that everyone needs to binge read.  You can thank me later.  😉

Meet Kandi

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

Release Day Blitz & Review….Quarter Miles by Devney Perry

QUARTER MILES (Runaway #3)
Release Date: July 21st
Purchase Details: www.devneyperry.com/books/quarter-miles

Katherine Gates has been in love with Cash Greer since the moment he saved her life from a runaway goat. According to Cash, she’s the little sister he never had, the greatest roommate in the world and his favorite coworker. They’re friends—best friends.

In the dark days of her youth, it was her friendships that kept her alive and made life in a junkyard worth living. So she’s learned to shove her feelings for Cash down deep, even if that means ignoring eyes that shine brighter than the Montana summer sun and the smile that illuminates the snowiest winter day.

Except with every passing year, the denial takes its toll on her wounded heart until one day Katherine decides to take an impulsive road trip to the Oregon coast. Alone. That is, until Cash cons his way into the passenger seat.

The farther they travel, the harder it is to pretend. And when she confesses her feelings, she learns that Cash has some secrets of his own. Secrets that will either bond them together.

Or rip them apart.

I truly cannot get enough of this series!!!  Devney has hit a goldmine with this one!!  Each book can be easily read as a standalone without any problems.  However, I think most readers will find that reading them in order is even more enjoyable.

This series is about a group of runaways that became friends when they found a home living together in a junk yard.  They are all grown and moved on with their own lives.  However, it’s a car that slowly bringing them all back together one road trip at a time.

Quarter Miles is Katherine’s journey as she tries to find herself and what she truly wants in life.  She has never felt the need to look anywhere since she arrived at the Greer’s lodge so many years ago.  She has found a home there and truly never thought she’d leave.  But knowing her best friend will never see her as more, she jumps at the chance to escape and take the Cadillac to its next destination.  Except her best friend has other ideas – he’s coming along.

This title if more fitting than you know.  Quarter Miles is one hell of an emotional story and I loved every bit of it.  I enjoyed watching both Cash and Katherine become aware of so much about each other and themselves.  Devney gives her characters depth and that just makes the reader even more vested in these characters and their story.

I enjoyed every singled thing about this book and I wont give away anything else about it.  This book will have you glued to the pages from start to finish.  You will love these characters and the wonderful places they visit.  Not going to lie – if these places exist in RL, I would love to visit them.  Devney makes them that real – hell, they could be or based on real life places.

Quarter Miles is another hit in the Runaway series and I cannot wait to read the next one!  I am already ready to dive into that story.

EXCERPT

“Why did you turn the air on?” she asked, looking above us to the open air.
“I’m hot.” Desperate. What would it take for her to put on a goddamn sweater? “Are you wearing sunscreen?”
“Uh, no.” She gave me a sideways glance. “Why?”
“You’re going to get burned.” Get the sweater, Kat. You know you want to.
“I’ll be fine. At the next gas station, I’ll grab a bottle for us.”
Us. Why did that word sound so serious? It wasn’t the intimate kind of us. There was no us. Not in the couple sense of the word. Did I want there to be an us?
Yes.
That lightning-fast internal response nearly had me slamming on the brakes, turning this car around and going back to Montana, where the world was normal.
Kat was my friend. My best friend. Roommate. Coworker. Pseudo sibling. There were days when I’d trade Easton for her permanently. Okay, any day. There were plenty of ways to label our relationship and us was not one.
I could not—would not—tear down the boundaries that nearly a decade and firm family reminders had put in place.

Twisted Circles by Claire Contreras….Excerpt & Review

Twisted Circles by  New York Times bestselling author, Claire Contreras, is now live!

When someone tells you who you are, do you believe them?

The first question the cops asked me was if anything out of the ordinary happened to me lately.

When I woke up this morning in the room of a mental institution I couldn’t remember a thing – not my name nor how I got there. Not how I left or how I ended up in that interrogation room.

The only thing I knew came from the contents inside my bag. A wallet, a student ID, a key that opened an unknown door, and two notebooks.

They tell me my name. It matches my IDs.

They tell me my story. I shut my eyes and try to piece it together, but can’t.

They tell me why they picked me up in the first place. They thought I was my sister. My brain stays stuck there. I try to rewind and fast-forward, as if my memories were on a videotape, but it’s no use. I can’t recall having a sister.

They put me back in the car and drop me off in front of a mansion they call The Manor and I discover what the mysterious key in my backpack opens the front door, and just as quickly wish I’d never unlocked it at all.

Twisted Circles is a complete standalone that takes place in the same “world” as Half-Truths.

Excerpt

“What the hell did I just see?” My voice was hoarse, the screams I’d contained ripping the tone from it.

“I don’t know.”

“What do you . . . ” I shook my head, covering my face. “You’re not going to tell me. You wouldn’t tell me. You’re the president of this freakish cult. Of course you wouldn’t tell me.”

“I don’t know.” His voice carried and brought my gaze back to his. “I really don’t know.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“That’s too bad.” He shook his head. “It doesn’t change the fact that I’m not lying.”

“I should have left with your brother.”

“My brother?” His expression turned serious. He glanced away for a long moment, staring at the portrait beside us. I had no idea who it was, but it was a man wearing a black little hat and a cross. A priest of sorts. Adam looked at me again. “My brother can’t help you.”

“And you can?” I nodded toward the back of the room. “You won’t even tell me why I just saw what I saw.”

“I don’t know the answer to that.” His jaw set.

“Your brother said you were going to bury me.”

“What else did Nolan decide to tell you?”

“Not much.”

“He shouldn’t have spoken to you. He knows better.”

“Free country and all.”

“Not in here.” Adam’s lip tilted. “You’re under our command in here.”

“Are you going to do to me what they’re doing to that woman?”

“No.”

“Are you going to bury me?” I swallowed, waiting.

“Yes.”

Yes. No hesitation.

“Are . . . are you going to kill me?”

“No.”

“You’re going to bury me alive?”

“Yes.”

Again, no hesitation. My heart skipped. Where was I and who were these people? I realized that I could scream, I could punch him, I could try to run, but I wouldn’t get very far.

“Is that part of the initiation?” I licked my lips, mentally preparing myself.

“Yes.”

“Were you buried?”

“We all were.”

“Has anyone died?” My lip quivered again. I blinked my eyes, more tears fell. I wiped them quickly.

He didn’t answer, but with the way his lips set into a hard line, he didn’t have to.

Claire delivers another mind-blowing, suspenseful story.  Twisted Circles is just that – a lot of twists and with everything circling back to one another.  WOW!

Twisted Circles is a standalone in the Secret Society series and is told in dual POVs.  You don’t need to read the first to read this one or have any background on anyone or anything to have a full understanding of what is happening.  Readers are thrown back into the college environment with the many different secret groups with a lot of suspense and twists.

I love that Claire focused more on the psychological aspects, the inner workings of the secret society and how all of that is intertwined. However, it is the mystery surrounding Eva that I loved the most about this book.  Claire plotted this out beautifully. I enjoyed how things unraveled yet opened another door.  It kept me glued to the pages and had me constantly trying to work things out.

Claire does a phenomenal job of keeping readers interested in the Secret Societies and wanting to know more about them.  I love how she brings in things from her own personal experience to enhance the story.  I love that this story is just as fresh as the first one.

Twisted Circles is the perfect suspense story with a touch of romance to keep her romance fans pleased. But for us suspense readers, you will love that this book is highly focused on the suspense and the romance blends in but never overtakes anything.  Bravo, Claire!!

Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey…ARC review

Book links:

Amazon | Goodreads | B&N | iBooks

About the book:

In a sequel from the POV of Annie’s best friend Chloe, a story about finding love in the most obvious-yet-not-so-obvious place. Chloe Sanderson is an optimist, and not because her life is easy. She is the sole caregiver for her father, who has early-onset Alzheimer’s, and pretty much responsible for everything. She has no time—or interest—in getting swept up in some dazzling romance. Not like her best friend, Annie, who literally wrote a rom-com that’s about to premiere in theaters across America . . . and happens to be inspired by Chloe and her cute but no-nonsense boss, Nick Velez.

As the buzz for the movie grows, Chloe reads one too many listicles about why Nick is the perfect man, and now she can’t see him as anything but Reason #4: The scruffy-bearded hunk who’s always there when you need him. But unlike the romance Annie has written for them, Chloe isn’t so sure her own story will end in a happily-ever-after.

My Review:

After LOVING the first book in this series, and falling in love with this cast of characters, I was beyond excited to get my hands on this next installment and let me just say…it was AMAZING!

Chloe and Nick are the perfect enemies-to-lovers couple and have more than a few struggles to go through, both together and apart, that make their story so touching. I had been rooting for them since the first book in t series and loved reading their journey. It was sweet, heartwarming, raw, and real. Loved these two!

If you’re looking for great weekend read to enjoy poolside this summer, this is a book for you! And be sure to pick up the first in the series, Waiting For Tom Hanks. Also, a fab read!

Review….Hard To Handle by K. Bromberg

Hard to Handle, book one in the Play Hard series, an all new series of standalone books by New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, is LIVE!

At first, the request seemed simple—sign a new athlete to the agency.
Then I found out the new athlete was none other than the most wanted man in hockey today: Hunter Maddox

Gifted. Sexy. At the top of his game. And the only man who has ever broken my heart.
If signing him will help save our family business, I’ll swallow my pride and do what’s asked.

But when it becomes clear his uncharacteristic antics off the ice are a hint of something deeper, keeping things strictly professional between us becomes more than complicated.

But I know better than to cross that line.

I’ll never date a client. Not even for him.

***
Win the Stanley Cup and do it before time runs out.

Not a small feat, but it’s what’s motivated me since the start of my career.

And time is running out.

Enter Dekker Kincade.

Feisty. Dogged. Damn gorgeous. The one I let get away.

I have no idea why she’s traveling with the team, but hell if resisting her is going to be easy.

But I have a job to do, and I refuse to lose sight of that end game. Even if she confuses me. Even if she sees parts of me I’ve hidden from the world.

I can’t lose focus. Not even for her.

Excerpt:

I stare at Hunter. At his shirt plastered with sweat and how it clings to his body, despite the chill of the ice his skates are standing on. He has his warm-up pants on and is without a helmet, his hair curling at the ends from the sweat.
And all I see in his eyes is anger I didn’t put there. Or maybe I did. Rejection can do that to a man . . . but there’s something more here. Something I walked in on that doesn’t make sense.
“Don’t give me that look, Kincade,” Hunter mutters as he skates over to the penalty box where his electrolyte drink sits.
“What look?” I ask.
He half laughs, half snorts and meets my gaze across the distance. “Disappointment. Disproval. Disdain. I’m the king of all of them, so save your breath—or in this case—your glare, because it’s not going to work with me.”
“Are we working on emotions that start with the letter D today?” I ask. A hint of my embarrassment and anger over how I acted last night creeps into my voice, but I mask it with sarcasm. “If that’s the case, I’m more than impressed with your answers thus far.”
He clenches his jaw in response and then skates back over to line up more pucks so he can shoot them. And he does, one after another, each shot taken with laser precision and a healthy dose of fury behind it.
He goes through the first ten lined up and then stops to catch his breath.
His talent and skill are undeniable, but so is the beer bottle in my hand.
“Just because you’re the captain and star of this team, doesn’t mean management won’t frown upon this,” I say, unable to let this go.
“Screw the management.”
“No one likes a player who’s hard to handle and honestly, Hunter, you’re becoming hard to handle.”
“No one likes unsolicited advice from someone who has no bearing on his career, either,” he counters, the rebuke stinging but deserved.
The problem is, I do care about him. Doesn’t he get that’s where my hostility stems from?
And only a crazy person would say that, Dekker.
I put my hands up in surrender to both him and my own thoughts. “You know I only want the best for you.” I take a few steps in his direction in the first row of the stands. I’m close enough to catch the hitch of his movement and to see uncertainty flicker in his eyes. It’s almost as if he needs to talk but doesn’t see me as someone he can trust. I hate that. “What is it, Hunter?”
“Nothing. It’s . . . never mind.”
But I see it, and he knows I see it. The question is what do I see, though?

Hard to Handle is Kristy’s newest release and the first book in her sports romance series. This book was so much more than I had thought it would be.

I had no doubt that this book would be a huge hit and that I would love it. What I had not anticipated was to feel so much and to actually shed a tear or two – it’s a sports romance. But I was wrong to think that Kristy wouldn’t deliver more than that a sports romance.

Hard to Handle is the start of a series that I think everyone is going to love. It’s about four sisters who have this love/hate relationship but all work together under their dad’s sports agency. They all have their strengths and it’s these family dynamics that keep things entertaining on that front. Dekker is the one assigned to snatch up Hunter Maddox, currently the best hockey player in the world. But there is a bit of history between Dekker and Hunter and that’s what makes this all the more entertaining.

Hunter Maddox is at the top of his game. He’s the captain of his local NHL team and is leading them to the Stanley Cup this year. But recently, his attitude both on and off the ice has really started to spin out of control and no-one knows why. He hasn’t seen Dekker in three years, since she walked away from him.

This story grabbed me from the beginning and kept it claws sunk in deep. This second chance/enemies to lovers romance is filled with so much passion, angst and so emotional. Kristy weaves this amazing story that handles the dynamics of family values, sports and juggling all of that. I do have to say that my absolute favorite part of this story was Hunter and Jonah’s relationship – this is the part that truly shocked me and added another layer to this amazing story.

Hard to Handle definitely starts this series off with bang. I cannot wait to see what Kristy brings us in next three books for the other sisters. This series will be everyone’s next addiction, whether you love sports romance or not.

Choosing Us Review:

Is there any story that Robinson can’t write and have you become so enraptured in the story that you never want it to end??? Yea, I did not think so.

Choosing Us is the first part of her Pierced Heart Duet and she holds nothing back. To say that I am highly intrigued to see where this story goes and how it ends would be an understatement. Robinson has weaved a very methodical and mysterious plot with a deep and emotional romance.

Let me tell you one thing, if you cannot handle cliffhangers, you definitely want to wait til Choosing You releases and binge these because the cliffy in this book will crush you.

I have no idea how Robinson does it -but she leaves me baffled as to what is going to happen next. I have my ideas but I even think those are wrong because they all seem so obvious. But what the hell do I know. It’s M Robinson and she loves to deliver a story that keeps her readers vested and on edge til the very end.

Bring on Choosing You!!!

Choosing You Review:

Who knew so many emotions could flow through your body by just reading a book?!? This book, this duet, was so much more than I ever anticipated.

“What do you do when the woman you lived for, stops living for you?”

I knew that reading this series was going to crush my heart, I just didn’t realize the magnitude of what I would feel.

“Camila was my biggest weakness, and at the same time my greatness strength.”

Choosing You in the conclusion in the Pierced Heart duet and it is soul crushing read. It continues right where Choosing Us – the cliffhanger that had us all on edge – begging, pleading for the answers we desperately needed.

I just never anticipated the power Monica’s words would have. You would think by now that I would be, but no – this book showcases how much her writing grows with every book, every character, every story.

If I learned one important lesson in all this, it’s not about the love story, it’s about the journey of making all your dreams come true. It’s hard. At times unfair. However, where there was hate, there was love. Where there was hope, there were prayers. Where there was hurt, there was happiness.

Monica delivers an impactful, heartfelt yet heart-wrenching and soulful story that will sink deep into your bones. This story has the perfect combination of humor, tension (oh the sexual tension in the first half – WOW), angst and heart – it has everything.

There isn’t one thing that I would change in this book – I loved it all. The story line, the characters and even an issue that has a become a huge discussion in our country because of people’s strong beliefs on their views. Monica wrote this scene beautifully and it’s something that I feel shines a light on the issue in ways people don’t ever see.

I loved every single one of these characters – from Aiden and Camila, to Jackson, Jagger and Journey, Dante(Camila’s best friend) to revisiting of characters from other books – they all served their purpose in this story and made it all come full circle. Also, everyone needs a Dante in their life – just saying.

The Pierced Heart duet is one duet that I highly recommend to anyone. Just be sure to have lots of tissues nearby but also be prepared to laugh your ass off.

For the first time in my life, I saw a future with a woman who wasn’t my wife. Hurting and healing me all at once.

“This is a return to the Kandi Steiner of 2016 who brought us Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey. Prepare for the burn.” — Author Sarah E. Green

Make Me Hate You, an angsty, emotional stand-alone romance from bestselling author, Kandi Steiner,is LIVE!

If he kisses me right now, I’ll drown.

Every sip of air is shallow and burning, because in the arms of my best friend’s brother, I’m the closest I’ve ever been to sin.

His eyes flick to my lips, and I remember the first time I tasted him, seven years ago before I left this town and vowed never to return. His hands grip my waist, and I remember the pain when he rejected me, when my entire world crashed down at his command. His jaw clenches, and my senses come alive with one stinging reminder.

I’m not his to kiss, and he’s not mine.

I tried to stay away from Tyler Wagner, putting an entire country between us. But when his sister’s wedding brings us back to the same town, to the same house, I can’t avoid him, no matter how hard I try.

He’s always there, his dark eyes bewitching, luring me into their depths. The memory of us pulls me under like a rip current, and when he flashes that smile, I lose my breath, along with my will, unable to escape his grip and find the surface.

Now, hours before our plus ones arrive for the wedding, I’m in his arms, begging him to make me hate him, knowing he never could.

If he kisses me right now, I’ll drown.

And I’ll take him down with me.

Excerpt:

Seven miles and an hour later, and all the anxiety I’d felt the night before was completely gone.

At least, until I rounded the foyer into the kitchen and saw I wasn’t the only one up early on Sunday morning.

Tyler sat at the kitchen island, still in his navy blue sweat pants and simple white t-shirt, with one foot planted on the ground and the other hooked casually on the lower bar of his stool. His hair was an absolute disaster, the boyish waves sticking up this way and that. He had both hands wrapped around a mug of hot tea, his eyes focused on the iPad he had propped up in front of him, and BlueTooth headphones in his ears.

At first, he didn’t notice me, and I slowed my steps, standing silently at the entry of the kitchen and watching him. I’d done everything I could last night to avoid his gaze, to not look at him, and now that I had a stolen moment to observe, I found my chest tightening again, my mouth dry and sticky.

His brown eyes were hidden beneath bent brows, expression serious as he watched whatever was on the screen. Small lines creased the edges of his eyes — lines that weren’t there when we were kids. He’d grown into a man somehow, overnight, it seemed. Then again, it had been years.

I’d seen him on social media, watched from afar as his YouTube channel took off. I’d seen pictures of him on Instagram — traveling through Europe, hiking in Australia, swimming in hot pools in Iceland. I didn’t follow him, of course, but his profile was public, which allowed me to flip through picture after picture on the nights when I was a pathetic mess.

But, pictures and videos didn’t do justice to the actual man who sat studiously at that kitchen island.

He was something between the boy I used to love and the man I’d never know, familiar and unreachable all at once.

Tyler shook his head at something, letting out a frustrated sigh and kicking back the bar stool a little before taking a sip of his tea. His eyes flicked to me then, back to the screen, and then, he did a double take, this time fixing his gaze on me and leaving it there.

Something changed in his eyes when he looked at me, like a shadow passed over them and held him captive. I was dressed in jogger shorts and a modest tank top, but from the way he watched me, I might as well have been completely naked.

That’s what his gaze did to me, what it always had done.

It stripped me bare.

Make Me Hate You is Kandi Steiner at her best. She’s not only the queen of Angst Romance but she’s a leading lady in romantic stories that will make your heart swell.

I will make this review brief because I am too afraid that I will give away too much of this story because I want to tell everyone about it and how amazing it is. IT IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Kandi delivers another authentic, real and raw second chance/best friend’s brother romance that hooked me from the very start. I devoured and soaked up every word of this book and loved every aspect of it.

Both these tropes are as old as time, but when written with a different spin, it’s feels so fresh. Kandi writes with her heart and soul and her readers feel that deep in their own heart and soul. You feel every emotion her characters go through, even if it’s not from their POV.

There are things that happen that not every reader will love, but for me, it’s what makes this story all the more real and authentic. Yes, we read books to get away from the real world, but sometimes it’s the rawness of a story (whether good or bad) that gives the book the depth and a deeper connection to the characters.

Jasmine and Tyler are characters that will stay with me for a long time. Their story, their friendship, their souls will take readers on one hell of a roller coaster ride. I enjoyed the camaraderie and the history between everyone. This book felt so natural and true-to-life that I blasted through it. Make Me Hate You is another top read from Kandi Steiner!!

About Kandi:

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional roller-coaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms.
In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed it to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die-hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.
When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer, and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.
