Release Day Blitz & Review….Madam Temptress by Meghan March

Release Date: April 14, 2020

From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes the stunning conclusion to the highly-anticipated Magnolia Duet.

I didn’t choose this path. No one would.

I played the cards I was dealt.

This life made me. This city made me.

I won’t apologize for who I’ve become.

Moses wouldn’t have me any other way.

He says he wants forever, and I’m starting to believe him.

But I can’t outrun my past, and my sins are catching up with me.

If it’s time to atone, I’ll gladly pay my penance.

We might be getting our second chance, but we have to make it out alive first.

Madam Temptress is the conclusion of the Magnolia Duet and should be read after Creole Kingpin.

Madam Temptress is the conclusion to The Magnolia Duet and is just as magnificent as the first book. I devoured this book and never wanted it to end.

Magnolia and Moses hold a very special place in my heart. I have a complete girl crush on Magnolia. She is fierce and a kickass woman in every way. And Moses, well the fact that I went from hating this man to truly finding him to be on the best men, that really says something. These two are the King and Queen of New Orleans.

This duet is probably my favorite out of every series or duets she has written and that is saying ALOT. I can honestly say I was not really all that gun-ho in the beginning because of my hatred for Moses, but Meghan does what she does best and delivers a story line that will have you completely going 180 on a character. I am so unbelievably happy that I still read this duet (and it was because of Magnolia that I did) but these two won me over so much.

Meghan truly knows how to weave a very suspenseful story with the perfect mix of romance and steam. I loved every single aspect of this book (and duet). The entire story flowed beautifully and there was never a slow down or confusing parts that took away from what was going on.

I am going to say it – Meghan may have written her best work to date with this series. She only gets better and better with each one and I cannot wait to see what she brings us next.

Release Day Blitz & Review…The Ninth Inning by J. Sterling

NI - RB banner

“This is sports romance at its best! I was hooked from the first page!” – Claire Contreras, New York Times bestselling author

The Ninth Inning, an all-new standalone sports romance from New York Times bestselling author J. Sterling, is available now!

20191203_120503

Cole Anders is in his last season at Fullton State. If he doesn’t get drafted this year, he’ll be forced to hang up his cleats for good. It’s not something he’s ready to do.

To prove he’s serious about his final season, he’s given up girls. No more casual hookups, dates or one-night stands. But there’s one girl who has always refused to give up on him. One girl who has been there since the start of Freshman year. One girl he stupidly assumed would always be waiting for him when he got off the field, no matter how long it took.

Christina’s had enough of Cole pushing her aside for baseball. She’s grown tired of waiting for him to see what she’s known since they were freshmen… that they are good together. She’s finally moved on- for good this time.

Cole has other ideas, but she refuses to cave. It’s not her problem if he wants her now. Too little too late.

There comes a point in your life when you have to stop the incessant merry-go-round and just get off the ride, right? Try telling that to Cole.

J Sterling is one of my OG authors that I will always come back to. She started my love for sports romance and when I saw she was going back to baseball, I could not be more excited. And she did not let her readers down!!

The Ninth Inning starts off her newest series, The Boys of Baseball and she smacks this one out of the park (yes, I had to be corny and throw in some baseball analogies). LOL

The Ninth Inning introduces us to the few fellows who these books will be about, but this book is Cole and Christina’s story. And it is a very sweet yet hot romance.

Cole has always made baseball his main focus and never allowing anything or anyone to distract him. Now in his senior year, he is finding himself in a slump with this batting and he has no idea why and he needs to fix it in order to have any chance to be drafted.

Christina has had an odd friendship/relationship with Cole until he told her to pretty much get out of his life. So she did – removed him from aspect of her life and hasn’t seen, talked or come in contact with him the last 7 months. Christina goes to a baseball party knowing she’ll possibly run into him but also to prove that she can move past whatever they were.

And that is all I am going to say. You need to figure out how things pan out and what happens between that party and the end. It is ride full of bumps, turns and groveling. I really, really enjoyed this book so much. I loved the chemistry between Cole and Christina and they both won me over with their abilities to talk things through and never giving up.

I cannot wait to see what Jenn brings us in the next two books about Chance and Mac. So excited!!!

About J. Sterling
My goal is to write books that you can get lost in and stories that will leave you with a smile and a full heart. If you can forget about the real world while you’re reading and fall in love with my characters, then I’ve done my job. A lot of what I write has real life aspects in it, but that’s what makes the stories so relatable- the fact that they could happen to anyone… and have!
I live in California with my son, Blake. If you can’t find me sitting behind a computer screen, then there’s a good chance I’m sitting in the bleachers of a baseball stadium watching him play. I love traveling to new places, meeting my readers and spending time with the love of my life, my very own second chance romance, who inspires me daily.
I know you have a million books to choose from and I am humbled, grateful and thankful each time you choose to read one of mine, or tell someone else to read them. Thank you.

Release Day Blitz & Review….First Verse by M. Robinson

Release Date: March 24
Dear diary,
Once upon a time…
There was a girl with long golden hair who had the truest, bluest eyes that turned white when she cried.
She lived in a kingdom far, far away in a tower made of stone, but her mind was made of glass that she kept sharp as knives.
Where her memories hid behind her darkest doubts.
Her deepest thoughts.
Her diary became the only thing she could rely on.
No one saw through her looking glass.
No one cared.
No one tried.
Until the villain presented himself as the hero in her life.
He took and took and took some more.
With no regret.
With no shame.
With no apology.
The page never turned.
Their story didn’t end.
Tomorrow never came.
His life of debauchery was their journey to nowhere.
She’d give anything to go back in time.
To walk where she had walked.
To see what she had seen.
One step.
One breath.
One day at a time.
Though in the end, “I love you” were just words.
That destroyed us inside.

Pre-Order Your Copy Here:

5+++++++++ Stars

I love it when a book gives me goose bumps all over and that’s exactly what First Verse did from start to finish. WOW!!

I’ve been anxiously waiting for Cash’s story and as always, M. does not disappoint.

First Verse starts off the duet of Cash McGraw and Journey Pierce perfectly. Yes, Cash and Journey were introduced to fans in other books, but you do not need to read any of those to understand or know who these two really are. M. does a phenomenal job of allowing both previous readers and new readers the pleasure of getting to know Cash and Journey the way we should – as though we’re meeting them for the first time. However, for those who do know they are, it’s seeing things from another view point and many things coming full circle. Oh, I’ve got goosebumps again just rethinking what I just read.

My love for Cash only grows more after reading this book. He’s a man who’s lived his life for music – music is his life and love. He feels very misunderstood by his family and when he lost his bestfriend because of poor choices on his part, he felt completely alone. But he always had his music, to express himself, to hide his demons and to show everyone that he was more than they gave him credit for.

This book has so much raw and gritty emotion in it. The life of a rock musician who uses his music to hide his true self from the world. I loved every single bit off this story.

And there is Journey. We don’t get a whole lot about her, BUT, what we do get to know, let’s just say I was shocked learning a few things about her. She is one strong lady and I hope we get to see more of her background and what transpired in the last 12 years for her.

I want to say so much about this story, but I won’t. Just know that this is story will grip you from the start and not let go. I read this in one sitting but I couldn’t walk away and now I really need to know how this all plays out.

OMG….M, you have my heart literally hanging by a thread here. I need Last Lyric NOW!!

Blurb:
When my best friend died of cancer just before her eighteenth birthday, she left her coveted bucket list to me.
The things she already crossed off? Skinny dipping, going to Paris, completing the local hot wing challenge, road tripping to the ocean, and sending out a message in a bottle.
So, it falls on me to finish it for her, to honor her memory. In the next year, it’s my mission to:
1. Dye my hair
2. Have sex
3. Camp out in a tent
4. Go bungee jumping
5. Get revenge on Lincoln Kolb
Most are doable, some terrify me, and then there is the last item on the list. When the raven-haired football god dumped my best friend during senior year of high school, she was devastated. The jerk with charm for days found out she was sick, and betrayed her in the worst way possible.
But he doesn’t know me, I went to school a town over. Now, to fulfill my promise, I’m the newest freshman on the campus where he is the big man. If there is one thing, aside from cheap beer, that a jock can’t pass up, it’s a shiny new girl.
So when I catch his eye, play hard to get, and then fall into his bed, I know my scheme is working to perfection. But what Lincoln can’t see coming is the beatdown I have planned for his ice-cold heart.
Unfortunately, what I never saw coming was the one he had planned for mine.

Carrie Aarons has done it again!!! Fool Me Twice is another great standalone read from Carrie Aarons featuring Henley and Lincoln.

Henley and Lincoln, aka Jimmy and Stallion, respectively, are quite the pair.

I truly enjoyed reading about these two, not only as a couple but as individuals. Henley is grieving her best friend’s passing and is respecting her best friend’s wishes by completing her bucket list. And the very last wish is revenge on Lincoln Kolb

Lincoln is his high school’s star quarterback and has the cocky persona to go along with it. However, there is so much more to him than what people see on the outside.

I won’t go into any more about the plot because this story is best read with as little knowledge as possible. One thing that I have learned over the years when it comes to writing college-age romances is finding the right balance in the maturity level. Carrie nails this one perfectly – Lincoln and Henley know where they want to go in life and know what it will take to get there but they also know they need to experience college life the right way.

Carrie delivers another emotional and charismatic story that will stay with you longer after you finishing reading it. Fool Me Twice is a definite must read!!

Excerpt

“How good are you at keeping secrets, Lenora Astalis?” His voice wrapped around my neck like a noose.
I wanted to cough. I needed to cough. He terrified me. I hated him with the heat and passion of a thousand blazing suns. He made me feel like a scaredy cat and a snitch.
“Oh, yes. If you’re coward enough to pretend you’re asleep, you’re good enough to keep a secret. That’s the thing about you, Astalis. I can smash you into dust and watch your grains dance at my feet. My little circus monkey.”
I might’ve hated Vaughn, but I hated myself more for not standing up to him. For not opening my eyes and spitting in his face. Clawing his unnaturally blue eyes out. Taunting him back for all the times he’d taunted all of us at Carlisle Prep.
“By the way, your eyelids are moving,” he said drily, chuckling.
He straightened up, his finger making a brief stop at the base of my spine. He snapped his fingers, making a breaking sound, and I nearly jumped out of my skin, letting out a gasp. I squeezed my eyes tighter, still pretending to sleep.
He laughed.
The bastard laughed.
Was he sparing me for the time being? Was he going to check in on me from now on? Retaliate if I opened my mouth? He was so unpredictable. I wasn’t sure what my life would look like in the morning.

Sweet geez, that was intense!!! WOW. This book definitely takes your breath away.

Angry God was sooooo much more than I had anticipated. And it is by far, my favorite in this series. I am not sure what that says about me, but I freaking devoured this book because I could not get enough of it.

This book will not be for everything as it deals with some heavy subject matter and will hit the nerves of those with a history of being bullied. Also, Shen in no way glorifies or excuses bullying, but it definitely makes you view the actions of others from a different POV.

Lenora and Vaughn’s journey is not a pretty one. It is riddled with pain, grit and a lot of darkness. These two hold no punches when it comes to expressing themselves, especially to one another. Vaughn has always had this god-like presence and people have come to respect that. However, he has met his match when Lenora comes trapezing back into his life during their senior year of high school. And their tortured souls never get a break as they both continue on from high school into their internship at the same university.

Shen writes two complicated and twisted characters that will leave your heart breaking. Vaughn hides his scars behind his walls and Lenora is the only one who seems to be able to see past them. Lenora is the complete opposite of Vaughn in many ways and her attitude towards him is what slowly breaks down those walls he has built.

Shen truly delivers it all with Angry God. She saved the best for last and wrecked our hearts beautifully.

Blurb:
One year ago, the boy next door was captured as a prisoner of war.
The boy whose window faces mine.
The backyard buddy who bandaged up my skinned knees.
The childhood crush that kept me up at night, wondering if he’d ever be my boyfriend.
The town hero I wrote endless letters to after he shipped out.
The green-eyed charmer who promised me a kiss the day I turned eighteen.
And now, he’s home.
But he didn’t come back as the boy I once knew.
He’s a man now, one with demons I can’t comprehend.
The damaged soldier keeps telling me I’m not his anymore.
That the war took him, turned him into someone unrecognizable.
What he hasn’t considered is that it took me, too.
He swears there is nothing left between us, that his heart died overseas. But with each look through our windows, we both know his lies are just that. With each fated meeting, the truth only becomes more evident.
Everett Brock occupies the shadows now.
And as much as I try to pull him into the light, it seems the switch is permanent.
What he doesn’t realize is that I’m willing to follow him into the darkness.

Carrie has really upped her writing with this book.

Hometown Heartless is a standalone from Carrie Aarons and one that took me by surprise. I have read a fair amount of Carrie’s books and this is first book that I have seen Carrie take on a topic that is riddled with so much emotion and depth to it.

Carrie has always been an author that I could depend on for a sweet romance with a bit of drama sprinkled in her stories. But none of her other books compare to this one. It’s my first five-star book from her and a book that shook me in ways I had not anticipated.

Hometown Heartless is about two high school friends with always skirted around being more but never took that leap. When Everett chose to serve his country, he and Kennedy took that their feelings to paper and opened up more in those letters than they allowed themselves before he left.

Now Everett has returned home and he’s not the same person he was when he left. He’s haunted, secretive and keeps everyone at a distance. As much as Everett tries, the connection he shares with Kennedy will eventually blow up.

Carrie does a phenomenal job of making this story about more than the romance and the explosive chemistry between Everett and Kennedy. It’s a story about overcoming demons, healing and finding yourself again.

Kennedy and Everett both grow a lot in this book, both together and separately. Carrie allows everything to happen naturally and organically with these characters. The flow of this book blends everything together so seamlessly and it was impossible to put down.

Carrie – you just reached another level in writing. You can see how much research you put into this book to make it all the more authentic. Hometown Heartless is a great way to start off my 2020 reading list!

Excerpt

“What’s your favorite movie?”
“Of all time?” he asks.
“Pick one from the past ten years.”
“I can’t,” he says. “There are so many great ones, and I love them all for different reasons. I love the technical aspect of Birdman. I love the performances in Call Me by Your Name. Fantastic Mr. Fox is my favorite cartoon because Wes Anderson is a goddamn genius.” He glances at me. “What about you?”
“I don’t think Fantastic Mr. Fox counts. It seems older than ten years.” I lean my head back and stare up at the ceiling. It’s a tough question. “I’m like you. I don’t know that I have a favorite movie. I tend to judge more on the talent than the story line. I think Emma Stone is probably my favorite actress. And Adam Driver is the best actor of our time, but I don’t think he’s landed the role of his lifetime yet. He was great in BlacKkKlansman, but I’m not crazy about some of the other movies he’s been in.”
“But did you see the Kylo Ren skit?”
“Yes!” I say, sitting up. “On SNL? Oh my God, it was so funny.” I’m smiling, but I hate that I’m smiling. It feels weird to smile when I’m so full of sadness, but this is how Miller makes me feel every time I’m around him. He’s the only thing that seems to be able to take my mind off everything, yet he’s the one person I can’t really hang out with.
Thanks for that, Shelby.
It sucks. I don’t like thinking about it, even though we’re together right now. But tomorrow at school, things will go back to how they always are. Miller will keep his distance. He’ll respect his relationship with Shelby, which will only serve to make me respect him even more.
And I’ll just continue to be in a depressing funk.
“I should go,” I say.
Miller hesitates before moving. “Yeah, I think my break was over ten minutes ago.” We both stand up, but I can’t get out of the aisle because he’s blocking my way, facing me, not making an effort to walk away. He’s just staring down at me as if he wants to say something else. Or do something else.
“I’m really sorry about what happened,” he says. At first, I’m not sure what he’s talking about, but then it hits me. I press my lips together and nod, but I don’t say anything because it’s the last thing I want to talk or think about.
“I should have said that the other day. At the funeral.”
“It’s fine,” I say. “I’m fine. Or at least I’ll be fine. Eventually.” I sigh. “Hopefully.”
He’s staring at me like he wants to pull me in for a hug, and I really wish he would. But instead, he turns and walks out of the aisle, toward the exit. I stop at the restroom on our way out. He grabs a trash can and starts to pull it toward the theater we just came out of.
“See you tomorrow, Clara.”
I don’t tell him goodbye. I walk into the restroom and don’t even bother pretending things will be the same at school tomorrow as they were tonight. He’ll avoid me while being all faithful and shit, and whatever. That’s okay. I need to stop interacting with him anyway, because as good as it feels when I’m around him, it’s starting to hurt when I’m not. And I don’t need another painful thing added to my already existing pile of excruciating feelings.

It’s been quite awhile since I have read a book by Colleen. Don’t ask me why, I really have no legit reason why, aside from having commitments to reviews of other books over the years. However, this book really intrigued so I made a point in finding time to read it.

After reading this, I am definitely going back and reading the few books of Colleens that I have missed on reading recently because I really do miss her writing style and her characters. This book was so poignant and can truly be read by anyone and walk away with something from this book.

Regretting You is a story about so many things – betrayal, love, loss, grieving and moving forward. A young love. A mother and daughter navigating their changing relationship after a tragic loss. A woman moving forward in her life while trying to find the answers in what she hopes in the right places. It made sound like a lot, but Colleen weaves these stories together seamlessly.

I loved every single part of this book. The relationship between mother and daughter. The relationship between grandfather and grandson. The relationship between friends, both old and older. I loved these characters. Morgan’s fierce protectiveness of her daughter forces her to make decisions that are so selfless, it speaks volumes of her character. Clara may be a teenager with overbearing parents but watching her grow as the story progresses was astounding. She makes mistakes, stumbles a lot but it’s those stepping stones that change her for the better.

Regretting You is a story that will touch even of us in different ways. It touches on so much and Colleen delivers the message in a very impactful and real way. There is rawness to Colleen’s writing that brings her stories to life and captivates her readers. Definitely a 2019 favorite read for me.

Meet Me On Love Lane by Nina Bocci…Blog Tour Stop and GIVEAWAY

About Meet Me On Love Lane

Series: Hopeless Romantics (Book 2)

Paperback: 304 pages

Publisher: Gallery Books (December 10, 2019)

From the USA TODAY bestselling author of On the Corner of Love and Hate comes a romantic comedy about a woman who grudgingly returns home to small-town Pennsylvania, only to find herself falling in love—not only with the town, but with two of its citizens.

Charlotte Bishop is out of options in New York City. Fired, broke, and blacklisted by her former boss, she’s forced to return to her hometown of Hope Lake, PA to lick her wounds. Although she’s expecting to find a miserable place with nothing to do, she is pleasantly surprised to discover it is bustling and thriving.

She’s only supposed to be in Hope Lake temporarily until she can earn enough money to move back to New York. She’s not supposed to reconnect with her childhood friends or her beloved grandmother. She’s not supposed to find her dream job running the local florist shop. And she’s definitely not supposed to fall for not one but two of Hope Lake’s golden boys: one the beloved high school English teacher, the other the charming town doctor.

With a heart torn between two men and two cities, what’s a girl to do?

A perfect blend of humor and heart, Meet Me on Love Lane is the second in a new series from USA TODAY bestselling author Nina Bocci that is sure to charm fans of Josie Silver and Sally Thorne.

My Review:

I’m a sucker for a second chance romance, and when it’s written by an author like Nina Bocci, I just know it’s going to be as good as ever. To say that about this book is a gross understatemnet…this story is FABULOUS! With heartwarming and relatable characters, this was a totally unputdownable read for me. I loved this entire cast and would love to dive into this fictional world for even just one afternoon. If you’re looking looking for your next read, look no further! This is a MUST read!

Landon & Shay: Part One, an all-new second chance romance by Brittainy C. Cherry, is available now!

Landon & Shay AMAZON

Shay Gable hated my guts, and I hated hers, too.

We went out of our way to avoid one another at all times. When she came my direction, I went the other. When we locked eyes, she’d turn and walk away.

All of that changed the day I was presented with a challenge. It started out as a stupid bet: make Shay fall in love with me before I fell in love with her first.

That was an easy bet for me to win.

I didn’t love, I hardly liked.

Yet slowly the game started to shift. Shay made me crave things I never knew I wanted like love, happiness, and her.

The closer we grew, the more she challenged my darkness, and the parts I kept locked away.

The hurts.

The pains.

The truth.

The game between us became too real, our feelings intermixed, and the risks of hurting one another grew higher.

But you know what they say…

All’s fair in the game of love and war—especially the heartbreaks.

Excerpt

Landon
Spin Seven was a mixture of spin the bottle and seven minutes in heaven. When it was my turn, I reached out to the bottle with no concern about whether or not it would land exactly where I wanted it to go. At fourteen years old, I’d learned how to perfect my spin-seven skills in order to kiss the girl I wanted.
Though, this time, I knew there wasn’t going to be a lot of kissing going on. More like yelling.
The bottle spun and spun, around and around. Shay’s eyes stayed glued to the glass beer bottle. The moment it started to slow down, I watched her lips part as she quietly muttered, “No, no, no,” before it stopped directly in front of her.
The circle began oohing and aahing at the idea that the two sworn enemies were on their way to the closet together for seven minutes straight. They were all here for that show, and I knew the moment we stepped into that closet, the door would be surrounded with people whispering and pressing their ear against it from the outside, trying to catch a snippet of what was going on behind closed doors.
I stood from the circle and gestured toward Shay. “Please,” I offered. “Chickens first.”
She grimaced, her thick, full eyebrows lowering a hair before she pushed herself up from the floor and headed toward the closet in haste. We both stepped inside and stood nose to nose.
“Okay, friends, you know the rules,” Eric said, grabbing the handle of the door. “Seven minutes in heaven—or, in your case, hell. Have fun!” He slammed the door shut, and the moment it happened, Shay whined with irritation.
“I can’t believe I’m locked in here with you for seven minutes. I could think of a million things I’d rather be doing,” she grumbled, probably with a pout.
“Like what?”
“Oh, I don’t know…watching paint dry.”
“Well, since we’re here, we should probably spend our time wisely,” I joked, moving to unbuckle my jeans, knowing it would bother her. I wished I could see the annoyance on her face. I loved when I got under her skin enough to make her nostrils flare.
“Oh my gosh, remove that idea from your mind, Landon, and stop messing with your belt, because there’s no way in hell I’m touching you.”
“I’ve thought about it before,” I said, my voice low and tame.
“Thought about what?”
“Kissing you.”
She huffed sarcastically. “I’m sure that’s not true.”
“You’re right, it’s not.”
“I know.”
It was true, though. It’d happened once—and only once—after Lance’s funeral. I had spent a lot of weeks being out of it, using alcohol to cope with the shitstorm raging inside my head, and I was a bit unstable. If my friends hadn’t been looking out for me, I would’ve probably gone overboard. I remembered walking into school one day and seeing Shay standing there at her locker with a few of her friends. She was laughing and tossing her head back in such a genuine way, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
I kept thinking about how she’d held me weeks prior and stayed with me during the lowest point of my life. She had been there—my enemy—taking care of my scars. And as I’d stared at her in the hallway, I’d thought about thanking her—walking over to her, parting my lips, and giving her my gratitude. I wasn’t used to people doing shit for me with no hope of anything in return, and Shay had done it without any expectations.
I remembered looking at her eyes, and then moving down to her slender nose, and then her cheeks, then those juicy lips.
I wondered how those lips would taste if I used mine against them to thank her. I wondered if she tasted like the candy she was always popping into her mouth. I wondered if she dripped of the angelic sin I always claimed her to be. I wondered for a split second…considered it for a blink in time…and then she slammed her locker, walked away, and I sobered up.
Still, I had considered it.
We both went quiet for a few moments before I cleared my throat again. I didn’t like silence. Silence and I didn’t get along too well. “Just one kiss, Chick. I can keep it a secret.”
“You keep secrets the same way you keep girls. AKA, you don’t—other than Monica.”
“Monica’s not mine.”
“That doesn’t change the fact that she thinks you’re hers.”
I smirked a little. “You jealous of her?”
“Jealous of her having to deal with a guy like you? Never in my life.”
“Whatever you say, Chick.”
“I wish you’d stop calling me Chick,” she snapped. “I hate it.”
“You want a new nickname, sweet cheeks? I can give you a new nickname, sweet cheeks.”
She shivered in disgust. Good. There was nothing I enjoyed more than getting on her nerves. “Not that either.”
“I’ll keep working on it.”
“Or you could just call me by my name.”
“Nah, Shay’s too ugly a name to leave my lips.”
“I hate you.”
“I hate you more.”
“Yeah, but I hate you the most.”
I snickered. “You really think you can get a guy like me to fall in love with you?”
“Yes. I’m positive, actually. People are the easiest to read, and that includes you.”
“You can’t read me, Shay.”
“I can, like an open book.”
“Okay.” I reached into my pocket, pulled out my cell phone, and turned on the flashlight, lighting up the small space. “Read me.”
She raised an eyebrow. “You sure you want me to do this? Reading people is kind of my gift, and you might not like what I have to say.”
“I never like what you have to say, so this time shouldn’t be any different. Go for it.”
She rolled her shoulders back and stretched out her arms as if she was about to deadlift me. “Okay. You’re fake, Landon.”
That was it? That was the big reveal? “What the hell do you mean I’m fake?”
“I mean exactly that. You. Are. Fake. F-A-K-E. Fake. There is nothing real about you. You’re a walking lie.”
I laughed. No joke, I actually laughed out loud, which didn’t happen often for me. It was a deep-rooted, belly laugh.
“What the hell are you talking about?” I questioned. “Everything about me is real. I’m the realist damn person you’ll come across in our town.”
“No,” she disagreed with a shake of her head. “You are the fakest. You’re even faker than the new boobs Carly Patrick got for her eighteenth birthday.”
What?!” I breathed out, stunned by her words. “I’m not fake, Shay.”
“It’s not a big deal, Landon.” She shrugged her shoulders and went to picking at her nails. “People seem to love your fakeness.”
“I’m not fake,” I argued again, my blood boiling at this point. “Plus, I’ve seen Carly’s boobs up close and personal. Those are straight in-your-face, nips-don’t-flick fake. There is no way in this world I’m more fake than those silicone watermelons. I’m a lot of shitty things, but fake isn’t one of them.”
“Okay then, can you answer a question for me?”
“Anything.”
“How many people know you’re sad?”
“The hell kind of question is that?” I barked.
“A very straightforward one,” she replied. She seemed so cool, calm, and collected—one of the many things I despised about her. It was as if her life was always so solid. I wished for that kind of stable structure, and seeing that she had it annoyed the living hell out of me.
“How long have you been sad, Landon?”
I glanced at my watch. “About a solid three minutes now, because being trapped inside this closet with you is complete hell.”
“Aren’t you the one who wanted to come in here with me?”
“Bad call. A lapse in judgment. I forgot how annoying you are.”
She smiled. She freaking smiled at me, pleased by my annoyance. “Are you going to answer me about your sadness?”
“Are you going to suck my dick?” I replied.
“Do you always do that?” she asked, tilting her head to the left as she studied my expressions. She was doing that thing she did—reading me. Taking note of my movements and the tightness of my jaw, taking in every inch of me.
Don’t let her read your pages, Landon. She couldn’t have even handled my prologue.
All my walls were up, and I wasn’t going to let her knock them down.
“Do what?” I questioned.
“Use sarcasm to shield your hurting.”
“There’s nothing hurting here. Look at this life. I have money, badass parties, and girls throwing themselves at me—why would I have anything to hurt about?”
“Maybe because money, girls, and parties don’t make a person happy. I see how miserable you are in your eyes.”
I grimaced and whisper-hissed, “You don’t know shit about me, Shay.”
“Then how am I able to get under your skin so easily? If that wasn’t true, if you weren’t sad, why would my saying that bother you so much?”
“You don’t,” I calmly replied.
She did.
She was pushing me, making me uncomfortable with the fact that she did seem able to see the parts of me no one else could. Anger was building in my chest, and I needed to defuse it before it became too big.
“Maybe it’s best if we shut up for the rest of the time,” I told her.
“For the second time in my life, I agree with you.”
Shay sat down on the floor of the closet, and I did the same, leaning back against some coats that were hanging. How did seven minutes feel like seventy? Was time moving at all? This was hell.
Then came the silence. The silence that brought out heavy thoughts. Shay could read my mind somehow, and so, when the silence became too much, I cleared my throat and tried to make small talk in hopes of shutting my own brain up. “A chicken and Satan walk into a closet—stop me if you’ve heard this one.”
She laughed a little.
It was quiet and low, and dammit, I’d never heard Shay laugh at anything I’d ever said before, so that was new. What was also new was the small part of me that enjoyed hearing her sound.
“Landon?” she whispered.
“Yeah?”
“Just shut up, all right?”
Yeah, okay.
“One more minute, you horny hatebirds!” Eric called out.
We both stood, and I took a step closer toward her. “I get you not wanting to kiss. That’s intimate and personal, but if you want, this is your last chance to touch my cock while no one’s looking. I won’t stop you.”
“No thanks. I’m allergic to peanuts,” she said so effortlessly and loudly, causing the crowd on the other side of the door to burst into laughter.
Shay smirked again, feeling proud of her little dig at me. That beautiful, annoying smirk I loved to hate.
Shay: 1
Landon: 0
I wasn’t worried, though. The game was just getting started. She might’ve scored one point, but I wasn’t going to let it happen again. We were playing on my field, and Shay didn’t know what she was up against.

This book was so much more of everything than I had anticipated. Brittainy knew what she was doing when she chose to make Landon and Shay’s story a duet. However, I am thoroughly impressed with how Part One ended.

This one started off slow for me. Too much background on Landon & Shay’s families right at the beginning had me wondering if this had anything to do with the plot. It was information overload and a lot to take in right at the beginning. I wasn’t really connecting to the characters so it took me a bit to really enjoy this one.

However, once we started to get more into Landon and Shay, who they were, who they were to each other, things really started to get entertaining. However, those areas at the beginning that didn’t jive with me, were making sense as the story went along and allowed you to understand certain events better. I won’t say what happens but just know that Landon and Shay and their story is more than just a romance.

Landon and Shay is so much more than just the story of them. It is story that deals with situations I feel is extremely poignant and important to read in today’s society. One particular issue that stands out is depression. Depression is something that so many people look down upon when in reality, way more people have it but chose to ignore it in hopes of not drawing attention to themselves. This part of the story hit closer to home for me because depression and mental problems do run in my family. Reading Landon’s thoughts and his inner dialogue is so true. It is scary to read but sometimes reality isn’t always rainbows and unicorns. Thank you, Brittainy for being so real, raw and direct with this. It truly impacts the overall story in ways you can’t imagine.

I loved this book so much. While it may have started off slow for me, in the end, it broke me and made me feel so much. This is a book that you need to read – it’s more than a romance – it’s a life story.

Release Day Blitz & Review…Calico Descending by Keri Lake

RELEASE DAY

Title: Calico Descending

Author: Keri Lake

BLURB

I was fourteen when I was sold to the men in black uniforms. Too young to understand I served a purpose beyond that of the other girls they’d taken.

For the greater good.

Now, after four years in Calico, I’ve seen more death and suffering than during my days of surviving out in the Deadlands against the threat of Ragers and famine. I didn’t think this world could get any bleaker. Didn’t think it could take any more from me than it already had.

Not until I finally learned my purpose.

That same day, I walked the dark halls in the bowels of this hell, where the suffering is in silence, and ghosts of the dead whisper through the walls. A place where nightmares are real.
A place where I met my Champion—the most revered Alpha in S-Block—locked away in his dark cell.

For the greater good.

He’s their weapon, their only line of defense against the mistakes of the past: the mutations that could wipe out all of what’s left of us.
Me, I’m his whipping girl. His reward for good behavior.
And his punishment for acts of defiance.

After falling into a slight book funk – this one has awaken my book love again!!!

O.M.G. Holy shit – I cannot get enough of this series. Hot damn, Keri!!

Calico Descending is the sequel to Juniper Unraveling. You MUST read Juniper Unraveling in order to fully understand this post apocalyptic, dystopian world. While Calico Descending focuses on a whole new set of characters, Juniper Unraveling gives you all the details and world building that you need to fully grasp this book.

Keri really knows how to deliver a dark, dangerous and gritty story inside a world that you can’t begin to describe in your worst nightmares. The story goes back and forth between past and present from Cali’s view until the views meet up to the present day. In her present views we meet three Alphas – Cadmus, Titus and Valdys. They are all a key to what is going on inside Calico.

I was just as drawn and ensnared with this book as I was the first one. It is a dark, twisted, creepy and very unsettling post apocalyptic world with characters that will grip you. I was honestly one edge the entire time reading this book. I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t stop thinking about it. It is that addicting.

I cannot praise this story enough. Even if you don’t think this genre is your thing, give it go. Be warmed, it is very detailed and gruesome at times, but that is what makes it so damn good too.

Keri delivers another jaw-dropping story that truly sinks its claws into. It also makes you wonder what our world would truly be like should we ever face a post apocalyptic world.

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren…Review

Synopsis:

Sam Brandis was Tate Jones’s first: Her first love. Her first everything. Including her first heartbreak.

During a whirlwind two-week vacation abroad, Sam and Tate fell for each other in only the way that first loves do: sharing all of their hopes, dreams, and deepest secrets along the way. Sam was the first, and only, person that Tate—the long-lost daughter of one of the world’s biggest film stars—ever revealed her identity to. So when it became clear her trust was misplaced, her world shattered for good.

Fourteen years later, Tate, now an up-and-coming actress, only thinks about her first love every once in a blue moon. When she steps onto the set of her first big break, he’s the last person she expects to see. Yet here Sam is, the same charming, confident man she knew, but even more alluring than she remembered. Forced to confront the man who betrayed her, Tate must ask herself if it’s possible to do the wrong thing for the right reason… and whether “once in a lifetime” can come around twice.

With Christina Lauren’s signature “beautifully written and remarkably compelling” (Sarah J. Maas, New York Times bestselling author) prose and perfect for fans of Emily Giffin and Jennifer Weiner, Twice in a Blue Moon is an unforgettable and moving novel of young love and second chances.

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners and the “delectable, moving” (Entertainment WeeklyMy Favorite Half-Night Stand comes a modern love story about what happens when your first love reenters your life when you least expect it…

My Review:

Hello.  My name is Jillian and I’m a huge Christina Lauren junkie.  It should come at no surprise that I was beyond excited to get my hands on an advance copy of this book and as soon as I did you can bet your behind I dropped everything to dive in. Well, I’ve gotta give it to this dynamic writing duo….they’ve done it again. I mean is there anything these ladies can’t write?

From start to finish, Tate and Sam’s story pulled me in and didn’t let go. I’m already a sucker for a second chance romance and when CL writes it, forget about it! *swoon* These characters are beyond dynamic and the plot is beyond emotional and I loved every page.

Whether you’re a CL junkie like myself, or new to their work, I know you’ll love Twice in a Blue Moon just as much as I did!
