Excerpt:

I shrug. “Because I can’t help but trust you. Even though it’s stupid and I have no good reason for it–I want to trust you. I want you to be someone I can trust.” I open my mouth, to tell him about the boy, about why it is so important to me. Why I should stay away from him, and why I can’t seem to.

Peter speaks first. “I don’t know who your father is. I don’t know why you want to run from your past. But the thing is, Gwen, I don’t care. I want to be part of now. I’ll fight tooth and nail to be part of now.”

“What if now is temporary?” I ask, thinking about my aunt and my tenuous grasp on sanity and all the reasons I should step away from Peter.

“Then we enjoy what we have,” he murmurs. I shudder as his voice wraps around me, as warm as the hand curving around my neck. He makes a low noise, and lifts me, until I’m sitting in the circle of his crossed legs. Pressed against him. I can feel his heartbeat through his shirt, the unsteady pounding. His fingers are still pressed against my hips, still holding onto me despite having me where he wants.

I should move back, put distance between us, so he knows that this isn’t ok. I sit still and silent in his arms and wait for the chiding voice, telling me it’s wrong.

The voice that has drown out every thought and feeling, every time a boy has touched me.

But it’s silent, oddly absent—maybe it is as charmed by Peter’s appearance as I am.

“What is Lane, to you?” he asks, breaking my thoughts.

I shrug, looking at the pulse point pounding in his throat. “A friend.”

“I don’t want you near him.” He says.

There is a part of me, slight but there, that is annoyed by his pronouncement. But the bigger part is smirking, leaning in so that my lips tickle along his neck. Peter goes very still, as I whisper, a hairs breath from his skin, “Are you jealous?”

His voice is low, gravelly, “Yes. Fuck, yes I am. I don’t want any man near you—I hate Micah for being your brother. I want you with me, always.”

His voice is so fierce, wild. It’s a savagery that is at odds with the soft circle of his arms, the gentle press of his fingers on my back.

That is all tenderness and fragile care.

He let the silence fall between them as the tub filled, turning off the water when it hit the right level. He stood; his skin itched for him to get the hell out of there. He needed space. He needed to get some control over his emotions, his body.

“Water’s ready. Towels over in that basket. Stay as long as you want—the heater will maintain the temperature.”

Cici brushed past him, his body tingling where she touched him. He was hyper aware of her movements behind him, jerking slightly at the thump her high heels made when they hit the tile floor, groaning with the hiss of her minidress slithering over her skin and sliding to the floor. The swish of water as she climbed in; her sigh as she settled under the tumbling warmth. Fuck, he should leave. Where was that space he was thinking about earlier? He needed to get there.

Now.

“Come here.”

He froze. His body tensed as he willed it not to move. This was a bad idea.

“Deacon.”

He turned, her blue gaze clashing with his as steam rose around her, fl ushing her skin and making her auburn hair twist into curls that dragged and clung to her damp skin. He wanted to follow their path, licking and tasting, making her burn.

“Come here.”

He groaned. This was the time to leave. She’d want to talk and he couldn’t be trusted to keep the secrets he needed to keep for just a little while longer. One wrong slip to Cici and she’d bolt, vulnerable and too angry at him to pay attention to the danger.

“I’m…I can’t…too jacked up. My nerves are shot.”

“Your nerves are shot?” She huffed out a bitter laugh as she leaned back against the tub, eyes closed, the pale globes of her breasts breaking the surface of the water and putting her hard, pink nipples on display. “I almost got killed tonight and I need you here with me. Calm the beast and get your ass in here.”

Whoa. His cock hardened even more in the painful confines of his jeans. She was pissed and his sick, depraved mind got off on it. A new kink in his extensive arsenal.

“Look at you. You’re a goddess. Everything about you says don’t fuck with me.”

Her eyes opened, snapping to lock with his own. “Don’t make fun of me.”

“I’m not.” And he wasn’t. She was vibrating with rage and he was afraid. Afraid that her demon would reach out and grab his and he wasn’t sure he could contain the chemical reaction. He swallowed hard, loving the small burst of pain that brought him down a little. “I’m not okay tonight, Cici. I’ll hurt you.”

“Tough shit. Get the beast under control.”

“But—”

“You won’t.”

She looked at him then and he could have resisted her if she’d been a demanding shrew, but the goddam vulnerability in her eyes killed him. On the surface she was a goddess. The huntress. Diana on a rampage, but her eyes gave it away. Not far below the surface was her shimmering, open, hurting core and he had to give in to that.

His guilt, his fear, his rage would have to wait.

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Don’t punish me for this later.” He reached over his head, grabbing his shirt and yanking it off and throwing it on the floor. Within a matter of seconds his jeans and boots had joined it and he was naked, his cock jutting out from his body in full arousal.

Cici drank him in, her gaze following every line of his body from the top of his head to his feet and then resettled on his groin with a flash of blue around her pupils. Deacon groaned, wrapping his hand around his dick and stroking from root to tip as she watched him, turning him on more with that look than anyone’s touch had ever done.

He glances back down at the paper. “Do you know what this means?”

“Dude, I’m going to have it permanently inked to my skin,” I say. “Of course I know what it means.”

“You’d be surprised how many people don’t know what they’re getting tattooed on,” he replies. “They’ll get random words in the foreign language of their choice tattooed because they think it looks pretty, and they have no idea what it actually says.” He snickers. “Or the assholes who insist spelling a word in their tattoo wrong, even when you point out to them that the spelling they want to use is not right, and that you’re and your are two different things.”

He’s a closet grammar freak, and my ridiculous and embarrassing crush intensifies. I clear my throat a tiny bit and refocus on the conversation. “Well, you don’t have to worry. I know what it means.”

“Does Mar have your email address?” he asks.

“Who?”

“The girl in the front.”

“No…”

“Well, I can email you the different fonts so you can pick one before setting up the actual appointment,” he says, looking completely casual about asking me for my email address.

God, Milcah. It’s for business. There’s nothing personal about it. Which is awkward, since my email address is still the same as it was when I made it in the sixth grade. I scribble it onto a paper and shove it towards him. “Thanks,” I say, trying to keep my voice sounding normal.

Why am I acting so freakin’ bizarre?

He folds the paper and tucks it into the pocket of his faded jeans. “Great. Hopefully I’ll have them for you tomorrow or the next day.”

I don’t have to go see Dr. B again for another two weeks. I still have time.

“Thanks,” I say, twisting my hands together and feeling awkward.

“I guess I’ll be seeing you around,” Callum says, flashing me a smile.

“Yeah.” I turn around and leave his office before I say anything stupid.

Mar, the girl in the front, smiles at me as I walk toward the door. “Do you need to schedule a follow-up now?” she asks, leaning against the desk.

I am inexplicably jealous of the fact that she gets to spend so much time in the same building as Callum, and I wonder what the hell has happened to my brain. Apparently, when they removed my boobs, they removed my common sense, too.

“Not yet,” I say, determined to be extra nice to her because the insane part of me wants to hate her. “But I’ll give you a call when everything’s figured out.”

“Great,” she says. “Have a great day.”

“You too,” I say, and walk out of the tattoo parlor, only slightly perplexed how nothing in the tattoo parlor was what I thought it would be.

My review:

Tame Me is the first Blue Box Special in the 1,001 Dark Nights Series as well as the first story in author J. Kenner’s Stark International series, a spin-off of her Stark Trilogy. Talk about kicking off a series with a sexy and steamy bang. This novella was incredible!

Jamie Archer has decided it was time for a new plan. Her current situation wasn’t working for her anymore and she really needed a change. She was tired of not being happy with the girl looking back at her in the mirror. She wanted to ditch her sex-as-a-temporary-fix-for-a-permanent-problem ways. She wanted to mean more to herself and find out who she truly was. The first step in her plan was leaving L.A. and heading back home to Texas. With her mind made up and just about ready to set out on the road there was on thing that she hated thinking about leaving behind. Ryan. Deliciously sexy, he was the only man she had wanted, but never acted upon. Now he’s the one thing keeping her on the fence as to whether she should leave or stay.

Ryan Hunter has watched Jamie for quite some time now. He knows her habits, her ways, her inner fire…he knows her. The heat between Ryan and Jamie is blazing and builds at a delicious and delectable pace. Ryan is 100% alpha and makes no bones about telling Jamie exactly what he wants from her and hot damn, it is wonderfully detailed and beyond super sexy. I admired Jamie and her quest to find out more about herself. She is also a witty and sassy gal, which I loved. She gave Ryan quite a run for his money and the chase was indeed a whole lot of the fun. Together they make a scrumptious pair and totally balance one another out both in the bedroom and out. Hard and soft, stubborn and yielding…they really are a beautifully equalized couple.

My review:

Sweet Ruin is the third book in author Nazarea Andrews’ University of Branton Series. I have loved this series since the first book and let me say, Nazarea has really turned up the heat with this latest installment!

Megan Beauchamp isn’t a fool. She knows she has to work extremely hard if she ever wants to make it big in the PR firm she works for and handling celeb heart-throb Asher Knox is definitely the hardest job yet. But if anyone is an expert at handling Asher, it’s her. She isn’t like all the other women in his life in that she doesn’t let his status affect her. Sure, he’s gorgeous and sexy with a killer accent, but she knows him inside out and backwards and knows he’s really just an ordinary guy. An ordinary guy with a huge crush on her. Luckily for her, she isn’t interested in all the headaches that comes with relationships. What she needs to do is focus on her career. Sometimes that’s easier said than done.

Heart-throb Asher Knox has it all….except Megan. He’s rich and famous and über successful in Hollywood but he can’t help but be falling hard for her. She’s ignored his advances thus far but things have a funny way of working out sometimes and when Knox sees a chance at getting Megan away from all the glitz and glam, he knows he needs to take this chance for what it’s worth….the chance to make her fall for him.

Luca James has been in sort of limbo for too long. He’s best friends with Megan and would love to take it to the next level…but he wants more. He craves a different type of relationship, one he’s sure Megan wouldn’t be into. She’s already mentioned in the past that she doesn’t like to share….which is exactly what he does like. Will he ever get a chance to show Megan that sharing could be better than she’s ever imagined?

Fate, however, seems to have a plan for these three and sets them on a trip that will change them all…forever.

Excuse me for a minute while I cool down a bit. Whew, this book was by far the hottest and sexiest of the University of Branton Series. I, of course, enjoy a break from the vanilla every once in a while and this was just delicious. The chemistry between Megan, Asher and Luca was there right from the start and I can’t say who I would have chosen if I had to pick between Luca and Asher. Megan definitely had a tough choice but luckily she didn’t have to choose between them. *wink, wink* Again, this is definitely the sexiest of the Branton series and it was a nice departure and addition!

And of course it was a treat to see my fave Branton professor and other cast of characters I’ve grown to love!

Thank you, Nazarea, for letting us visit Branton again! It will always be one of my favorite towns and I will look forward to reading more of your work in the future!

My Review:

Rock It is the first book in author Jennifer Chance’s Rule Breakers Series and kicks it off with an enjoyable start.

Lacey Dawes’ career as a PA in a major talent agency has really been amazing thus far. She’s doing everything she could have dreamed of and when the chance to work with major star Dante Falcone is dropped in her lap she can hardly believe it. I mean he’s been her crush for as long as she can remember. She knows everything about him from way back when he was a little known teen idol to now…one of the most sought after stars in music. Sure, she’s beyond thrilled to be working with him but if she’s being honest, she’s pretty terrified too. But she knows she will be able to keep things on the most professional of levels and will be able to bury her screaming-fan-girl-ish crush, right? Turns out that is way easier said than done when she starts working with Dante. How is it possible he could be even more amazing in person? Oh, she was in so much trouble.

Dante Falcone is thankful every day for his fame and success. He has everything he’s dreamed of and is always working at getting to the next level in his career. But there’s always been something missing. He can’t quite figure out was it is, exactly, until he meets Lacey. There is something about her that draws him in. It’s almost like he’s met her before. But surely that can’t be true. He would remember someone as beautiful and refreshing as she is. Still, he can’t get her out of his mind. What better way to keep her around than to insist that she’s the one he wants to head up his latest tour and projects with his new talent agency? Nothing has ever been out of reach when he sets his sights on it, and Lacey is no exception.

I’m always a sucker for a Rock God meets fresh-faced girl story and Rock It totally delivered. Dante is the ultimate rocker with a soft side and big heart and the desire to find love and Lacey totally fits that bill. One of the things I liked best about Lacey was her very real reactions when she’s around Dante. Her plan of being professional and composed completely fly out the window and more often than not she ends up fumbling over her words and actions because, let’s face it, wouldn’t you if you had to work with your ultimate celeb crush? I know I would! It’s those reactions that made her a very endearing character and one I really enjoyed reading. And the chemistry between Dante and Lacey is totally scrumptious!

I am looking forward to more in this series and to see where Jennifer takes us!

About Jennifer Chance

I come by romance honestly, having spent several years writing adult romance and entering romance contests through Romance Writers of America–including finaling twice in the prestigious Golden Heart contest and winning once. But despite these and other contest wins, my first published novel came not in adult romance, but as a writer of YA historical fiction (you can read all about my Elizabethan spy girls stories, the Maids of Honor, here.)

Still, despite my love of Elizabethan spies, I could never quite give up those super Alpha contemporary romance heroes. So, in the summer of 2013, I decided to see if perhaps I might still have a romance or two up my sleeve.

I wrote a tale about a girl whose biggest high-school and college crush–a rock star–suddenly becomes her biggest client, only now she has to be professional and not betray the fact that she’s completely in love with the guy. It was a fun, sexy, romantic fantasy, and I suggested the idea to my agent… who asked what other ideas I had in addition to this story. Shortly after, the Rule Breakers series was born.

To separate these books from my historical work, I adopted the name Jennifer Chance. I am now pursuing my dreams (pretty much round the clock as it turns out) and am THRILLED to be able to have four e-books coming out in 2014 and early 2015, all with Random House LoveSwept’s New Adult romance line.

As to what will happen from here, who knows? But as long as there is a story to be written and an HEA to be had, I’ll be the one over in the corner, tapping away on my keyboard.
