What’s your new release about, and why are you excited about Thrill Me?

I’ve always loved romance series that center on a family, and Thrill Me is the first book featuring the five gorgeous Mitchell brothers of Fool’s Gold. (Doesn’t the image of five strong, sexy men make you quiver?) This is a great time for readers who have never read a Fool’s Gold book to jump in and give it a try, because it’s the first book of a series-within-the-series.

First to fall in love is eldest brother Del, who made his fortune in extreme sports. When Del was in his early twenties, he feel head over heels in love with Maya Farlow. She loved him, too, but she was afraid of losing herself in the strength of her feelings for him. Because of her rough childhood, Maya felt she could only depend on herself. She broke up with Del in the harshest way
she could think of so that he wouldn’t try to follow her.

Now, ten years later, Del and Maya have both returned to Fool’s Gold, and Mayor Marsha has asked them to promote the town’s new slogan, Destination for Romance. What do you think of the contemporary boom happening right now?

From my perspective, contemporary romance has always been popular. My sales have continued to rise steadily as readers tell

their friends about my books. (Thank you, thank you! Sincerely, thank you. Nothing is more powerful than one reader telling another, “I love Susan Mallery!”)

All of the Fool’s Gold paperbacks have hit the New York Times bestsellers list, all but the first one in the Top 10, if I remember right, with three going as high as number two. Most recently, Hold Me hit number two in May. (I’m writing this before the release of Kiss Me, so you’ll have to check my Facebook page, www.facebook.com/susanmallery, to see how that one did.)

I think contemporary stories will always be popular, as millions of readers prefer to read about characters in situations they recognize. One of the things I love best about romance is that there is room for every reading taste within the genre. Contemporary, historical, or futuristic. Sweet or sexy. Wherever a writer’s imagination travels, if she writes a good story, readers will happily go along with her on the journey.

How do you keep the conflict in your contemporaries realistic and just tough enough?

To feel realistic, conflict must be specific to the characters. As in real life, characters’ experiences make them who they are. In Thrill Me, there’s a very good reason why Maya is afraid to depend on the love that she and Del share. As a child, she never felt safe because her mother bounced from one bad relationship to another, with Maya trailing after her, helpless as a child to change her circumstances. When she grew up, she was determined not to repeat her mother’s mistakes. She couldn’t trust anyone but herself to make sure that she achieved everything she wanted to in life. Not even Del, the man she loved with every fiber of her being.

My books are inherently hopeful. Readers know they can count on me for a happy ending, so I can create a strong emotional conflict and you can relax into the reading experience because you know it’s going to be resolved. Love is transformative.

“The rains have made the gardens bloom, and it warms my heart to see it so.”

Cyrene laughed lightly. “I have not gardened in a month’s time. I fear I can no longer call myself a gardener.”

She remembered when she had told the king of her interest in gardening at the last feast day almost a week ago. After that dance, Queen Kaliana added a list of plants to her assignment, forcing her to reread every page she had already dredged through for information. It had wasted two entire days.

“Perhaps I could change that,” he offered.

He directed her down the staircase and into the courtyard below lit solely by the setting sun in the distance.

Her stomach churned at the thought of him offering assistance to any of her needs. It was like what she had read in her children’s books of the tales of Leifs, and how one request would be necessitated by a much larger sacrifice. Cyrene missed her footing on the pebble path and stumbled forward a pace. Edric steadied her. He turned his body to face her in the middle of the garden, and her breath caught at the sight of him in the setting sun.

“You do not wish me to speak to the Queen?”

“I spoke out of turn. Please forgive me.”

“I cannot forgive that which I do not understand. Did the Queen somehow offend you?”

Cyrene shook her head. “I fear that the Queen does not…like me.”

“It’s nothing, my King.” She turned her face away from his. She couldn’t possibly tell him the real reason.

My review:

Just One Lie is the second book in author Kyra Davis’ Just One Night Series and even though I own the first in the series, Just One Night, this is the first of Kyra’s work that I’ve read. Which looking at it now is absolutely NUTS because I loved this book. Beyond loved.

First I want to mention that this can be read as a standalone, as I can attest to, and you won’t be lost or miss out on anything. Ok…now onto a hopefully not rambling review as you may know I tend to do when I love a book this much…

Melody Fitzgerald could be called a wild child. She could be called a free spirit with a devil-may-care attitude. She could also be called talented with a gift for creating edgy and beautiful music and giving performances that took an audience’s breath away. But that was the thing with Melody…she was multifaceted and holds many different sides to her personality. That’s what drew people to her and what had the either holding her close or pushing her away. It’s what attracted the brooding and mysterious Ash as well as the very opposite preppy and stable Brad. Two very different men attracted to a woman who was like a freshly blown soap bubble….beautiful and mesmerizing but fragile and ready to pop at any moment. There’s lots of emotion swirling under the surface like the iridescent colors on the clear bubble and it’s those emotions and Melody’s past that threaten to make her pop. Will either Ash or Brent be able to help her stay afloat?

It was a hard choice for me when I first started reading, to be honest, on who I would choose for her to end up with. I loved the way the story opened up with Ash and I loved their hot and heavy relationship but I wasn’t sold on him. Enter Brad. The sexy drummer who looked anything but. He was preppy and solid with a maturity about him that didn’t fit the typical drummer persona. I loved him almost immediately and loved that there was also a mystery about him. Of course, when we get beyond the surface with Brad I loved him even more. I don’t want to give anything away but I will say he is 100% swoon worthy.

Of course nothing was easy when it came to Melody. She has too many demons in her past and they are always threatening to break free at the most inopportune times. It broke my heart to see her struggling. Normally, I prefer a damaged hero being rescued by a good and whole heroine. This was the complete opposite and I loved it more than I thought. Never once did I find Melody weak or annoying. Her struggle was touching and gut wrenching. Her journey is indeed a rough one but also one that I loved from start to finish. I laughed and cried and, as I said earlier, devoured in one sitting. It was dark and beautiful and ended on such a perfect note that I wore a silly grin on my face for the rest of the day. So, so, so good!

Ok….hopefully I didn’t put you to sleep with this long review and hopefully you got the hint that I adored this story and highly recommend! Thank you, Ms. Davis, for an amazing read!

Synopsis:

Gabrielle Ginsberg spends her daylight hours going toe to toe with Braden Pierce, a ridiculously handsome assistant district attorney for the Philadelphia criminal court system. However, sometimes life as a public defender can reach embarrassing lows. Especially when Gabrielle is forced to spin creative tales in support of her clients’ criminal activity while running the risk of being laughed out of the courtroom, all in front of her crush. After acting completely out of character at a dive bar frequented by her fellow colleagues, Gabrielle scores a date with Mr. Hot Prosecutor who appears to share a mutual attraction.

Quick Byte:

The Law of Attraction is a light-hearted romp in and out of the courtroom that will have the reader laughing out loud. There was one scene in particular, involving a chihuahua name Bruno that had me practically in stitches. Unfortunately, I enjoyed the build-up more than the actual relationship between Gabrielle and Braden. Things progressed rather quickly for my personal taste and lacked a genuine appeal at times. However, Ms. Silber does a great job of keeping the humor consistent and the reader engaged throughout. Gabrielle is funny and I found her character interesting and likable.

Tavia Gilbert is probably my favorite part of this audiobook. She is such an accomplished narrator and she never fails to keep me entertained. There were even moments when I needed to roll up my car windows at traffic stops, not wanting neighboring drivers to hear just how convincing she was during the particularly hot parts.

All in all, I enjoyed The Law of Attraction and would recommend to a reader looking for a romance that is both fun and light. Please be aware, the first two books in the Lawyers in Love series lead into one another with book one ending on a bit of a cliff-hanger.

Adam is captivated by her nerdy talk and peculiar tendencies and sets out to make it his mission to turn the Star Wars loving hipster to the dark side, where mingling with models is widely arousing.

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Relinquished completely took me by surprise and blew me away. Kimi (K.A.) has come barrelling out of the doors with an explosive novel!

I don’t even know how to start this review. I have so many thoughts rushing through my head. I have to say that this book gripped me from the beginning and never let go.

Jules is a foster child and was in and out of homes til she aged out. Her life since then hasn’t been a peach either. Barely scraping by, Jules does what she can to survive. Jules is very strong woman for going through what she has and not allowing herself to just give up.

“I was tired of just existing. It was time for me to finally fight and claim the life and future I wanted for myself.”

Dante and Holden come across Jules when they visit the bar she works in. She keeps her guard up around anyone and everyone. But with them, for some odd reason she can’t explain, their is some sort of guardianship coming from them.

However, once they get closer to her, things start to spiral out of control. And just when we think we are going to get some answers, more twists and turns are thrown our way.

Kimi does a phenomenal job of keeping things move along at a great pace and slowly leaking tidbits of information. It’s just enough to give you pieces of the puzzle, but it’s not enough to put them together correctly. She weaves this dark and edgy love story so perfect.

“Everyone has scars that tell a story. Even though they don’t define who you are, yours tell me that you’re not a victim, you’re a survivor. They validate your past, but you’re a stronger woman because of them.”

The dynamics between all the characters felt so real. You can feel the protection that both brothers felt for Jules, but in two completely different ways. The hatred I felt towards the evil men in this book had me putting my kindle in a death grip, wishing it was their necks. I love when an author is able to get such strong reactions from me.

Relinquished is like a puzzle crafted to make you second guess every piece you are given. You will not see the ending coming. I loved every single bit of this book! Bravo Kimi!!!

“Are you kidding?” She sounded breathless, wound way up. “I thought roller coasters were fun. I had no idea.”

He kept his attention on the tank fill. He needn’t have bothered. The loading team roared up to twenty gallons short of filled, then topped off at a thousand exactly using the reaction time to shut down the pumps. Three seconds later he heard the double-slap on the outside of the chopper, signaling that he was good to go.

He had the rotors humming even as the verbal confirmation came in over the headset.

A dozen feet aloft, Denise spoke over the intercom, her voice so calm and steady that it wholly belied the breathless gasp of moments before.

“I really liked kissing you.”

Beautiful, charming, and spoke her mind without games. Who the hell was she?
