“Maybe I care,” she retorts. “Think about what this will do to us.”

“What could it do? Force us to admit that yes, we’re in a relationship now? What’s wrong with that?”

“This so-called relationship only happened because you sought me out and then lied to me!” Her voice is shrill, her eyes wild, and she visibly shakes. She’s angry.

At me.

“I never meant—” I clamp my lips shut when I see her hostile expression. She looks ready to pounce. Christ, maybe she’s right. Maybe we shouldn’t have met today. Our hurt feelings are still too close to the surface, too raw and painful.

“Do you really think meeting me today was a mistake?” I need to know her answer, though I might not like it.

Katie watches me, pressing her lips together. I wait for her response, air lodged in my throat, my heart tripping over itself in my chest. I feel like it’s all come down to this. “This won’t work,” she whispers.

“What won’t?”

“Us. The two of us . . . together. We need to accept it.” Her face almost crumples but she somehow keeps it together, all while she slaughters my heart with her words. “We shouldn’t be seen together in public. If anyone recognizes us, it will become this—thing, and soon the media will be talking. About us and our sick relationship. And I don’t want that. I don’t think you do either.”

My spine stiffens involuntarily and I slowly back away from her, holding my hands up in front of me in pure defensive mode. As if my position can ward o the blow only her words can deliver.

I thought my father knew how to pack a punch, saying just the right thing to make me internally bleed. A few choice words from Katie Watts and I feel like I’m near death.

“You want me gone? I’m gone,” I tell her, but I don’t budge. I’m hoping she’ll stop me. Despite the pain she’s causing, I don’t want to walk away from her. Even though it feels like my heart is about to crack into a million tiny pieces. I swear she already broke my heart when she first found out who I really was and ran, exiting my life like she was never in it.

Now she doesn’t want to be seen with me in public. Doesn’t want Lisa to know. The rational side of my brain understands why she might feel that way. But the irrational side, the emotional side, is screaming in agony over her rejection, demanding that I hurt her back.

My vengeful side makes me think of my father.

I rub a hand across my chest to ease the radiating ache, but it doesn’t help. The way Katie watches me isn’t helping either.

“It’s for the best,” she whispers. “The minute she spots us, she’ll tell . . . everyone. And then we’re in trouble. They’ll twist our relationship into this weird, sick thing, and I can’t. I can’t bear it, Ethan. I’ve already suffered through too much and so have you. This—we’re not worth it.”

My mouth drops open. We’re not worth it? She’s the only person in my life who’s worth anything.

“I’m—I’m sorry.” The choked words leave her and I can’t say anything in return.

She turns and leaves, her steps hurried, her at black shoes slapping against the pavement as she scurries away. I watch her go, don’t stop her, don’t say her name. I don’t do a damn thing, as if I’m paralyzed, and I wonder for one crazy moment if I might be.

But I’m not. I’m just struck numb by her words, by her worry. She’s right. I know she’s right. The media will turn our relationship into a train wreck, and with good reason.

My Review:

Mister O is the newest work from author Lauren Blakely and admittedly the first of her work that I’ve read. Well, I have now gone into full-blown stalker mode and am tweeting all things Mister O like a crazy person and will be shouting my love for this book from all available rooftops. I freaking LOVED this book.

Ok…I will try not to just blabber on and on and I promise I will try to make coherent sentences while writing this review…wish me luck!

I love a good friends to lovers story. I especially love a best-friend’s-little-sister-off-limits friends to lovers story. But even more than that I love a hidden-crush-best-friend’s-little-sister-off-limits friends to lovers story. And that’s exactly what this story was. But I can’t even put this book into a regular hidden-crush-best-friend’s-little-sister-off-limits friends to lovers story category. Why? Because this book was so well written and these two characters were so damn amazing and the sex was so off the charts hot that this book really belongs in a category of its own. I mean it was just SO MANY THINGS! Ok, I’m getting it together here, I swear…

To start, it’s from a female-worshipping-male’s POV, which when done well, I adore. And it’s safe to say, this POV was done brilliantly. Nick Hammer is funny, sexy, quirky, dirty, respectful, and delicious. His inner dialog was incredible. I alternated between laughing and sighing dreamily. He’s a man’s man throughout with a nerdy side that had me swooning. I seriously loved everything about him. And when it comes to his infatuation with Harper, the hidden-crush-best-friend’s-little-sister, she is just as spectacular and a match for Nick in every way. She’s less experienced than Nick when it comes to matters of the opposite sex which leads them onto a “friendly” sexual tutoring mission and holy HELL, it’s starts off insanely hot and heavy and only gets hotter as the lessons progress. I’ll tell you what, I give these two an A+ in both physical and emotional chemistry. Of course, things get way deeper than just the physical level and when feelings start to emerge and life throws a curveball to these two, I was a nervous wreck. But not to worry…Ms. Blakely not only gave a great physical connection to Nick and Harper, but she also gave them common sense and a whole lot of chutzpah so when they were faced with the “what now?” scenario, they did what I know we all wanted them to do. I was crying and laughing and swooning all at the same time when their story reached its end. (and the end’s end…because with two epilogues I was in my book-loving glory!)

So, if you’ve stuck around to this point and have put up with my blathering, bless you, and now I send you off to go pick up your very own copy os Mister O…because if you haven’t guessed, I LOVED THIS BOOK!

Weighing In…Is the Black Dagger Brotherhood Great Again?

Here at Read-Love-Blog sometimes we come across a book, idea, or concept that catches our interest and, even though we may not have the time to review it just yet, we want to share our thoughts with all of you. This is how the new feature “Weighing In” was born! Our very first Weighing In is from blogger/reviewer Stacey and takes a look at music romance anthologies. We hope you enjoy!

Weighing In…Is the Black Dagger Brotherhood Great Again?

Short answer? Yes.

Or should I say Beast-sized answer?

If you plotted out my level of enjoyment with this series you’d see a whole lot of peaks and valleys, but mostly a downward trend since Rhev’s book, Lover Avenged. After that, it was a whole of meh. John Matthew’s book, which I was really looking forward to? Meh. Payne’s book – the only female warrior which I had super high hopes for? Meh. And then Tohr’s book. For me, a total implosion.

Tohr was so devastated when his pregnant shellan, Wellsie, was killed that he just poofed away and was wasting away to nothing. He was wrecked. A shell of himself. His story needed to reach down into my guts, pull them out—grabbing my heart on the way up—stomp on them a bit and then piece it all back together until I was a puddle. I hated this book. It’s one of the few times I’ve wanted to throw a book across the room. I didn’t feel anything between Tohr and this replacement shellan. Epic fail, people.

But I soldiered on, like a good BDB fan, and read Lover at Last, Qhuinn and Blay’s story. More meh. So I stopped reading. I haven’t read The King or The Shadows. But when I heard The Beast was Rhage? I couldn’t resist.

And I’m glad.

Like, really, REALLY glad.

This felt like vintage BDB. Ward even managed to revisit one of my favorite scenes from Rhage & Mary’s original book and make it damn good all over again. I was swooning again. It was all good. So, so good. The trademark J.R. Ward things are there: lots of subplots (some more interesting than others), the banter, the camaraderie in the Brotherhood—all of it.

And I’ve heard good things about the BDB Legacy spinoff series, so I think I’ll read that. And, hell, I’m feeling so good after The Beast, I might as well give the two I skipped a chance as well.

An iron horse with a flaxen tail.
The faster the horse runs,
the shorter his tail becomes.

Matilda is hanging laundry on the line out front. Knickers? Fuck. She’s hanging her lacy knickers on the line? What am I going to do with her? No doubt, she’s one of those girls who can take what she wants from life. She’s genuine and raw. Her unfinished qualities make her curiously unique. She could strip you down, rob a bank, steal anything with that wonder-filled smile. Is it that I haven’t been around a woman in a few years, or is it her?

The sun is blazing as the boys and I head to the feed mill. After ordering our supplies, we walk from the mill to Grandma Nell’s kitchen for breakfast. Nell’s is one of those comfort-food diners that fills me and my boys up well and for cheap. The boys slide off their cherry-red stools at the counter every ten seconds or so until Nell spots us.

“I hear you have company out at the farm,” she says, wiping her hands on her apron.

That makes me think about how Matilda had an apron on when she ran into me while trying to get to the oven dinger yesterday. Her full breasts pushed against my chest as I scolded her. I haven’t had a woman pressed against my body in over two years. Matilda, Lord help me. I’d held her there as long as I could, looking down into her abundant cleavage. Then I forced myself to walk the other way so she wouldn’t see my raging hard-on.

My Review:

Fly With Me is the first in a new series from author Chanel Cleeton and I absolutely loved it. From start to finish this book is filled with heat, humor, and a ton of emotion.

Right from the start we are treated to Jordan’s sparkling personality and a dose of humor as she sets out for a night out on the town in Las Vegas for her sister’s bachelorette party. But pretty quickly things turn from funny to smoking hot when she meets Noah. Sexy swagger filled, fighter pilot Noah. Oh man, talk about an instant attraction. It was hot and fast and just perfect. Soon they both realize what happens in Vegas shouldn’t stay in Vegas and that what they’ve found was something special. Would they’re budding relationship be able to handle the struggles of not just a long distance but with all the things military life brings to the table?

I loved so much about this book. I loved Jordan’s entire personality. She’s strong, confident, determined, and witty. I love that she knows who she is and isn’t afraid to be that person. Tyler was equally amazing. He shares a lot of the same traits as Jordan in being determined, confident, and damned sexy. Together they are delicious. The heat between them is ridiculously hot but also tender and sweet at times. Noah is, like Jordan says, a unicorn in the dating world. He’s so many things rolled into one sexy package. Of course, I knew as well as things were going for them, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. And oh man, when it did, I was so heartbroken. It really shook things up for Jordan, Noah, and the men he flies with. I won’t ruin anything but I will tell you to get some tissues and not to worry too much. It was a necessary moment they needed to have and while I was sobbing my eyes out, I understood it. It really added a touching emotional layer to this story and made my love it even more.

It’s safe to say this is shaping up to be a fave series of mine and I cannot wait to see what Ms. Cleeton has in store for us next!

“You know what?”

An amused eyebrow rose. “Hm?”

Even his questioning noises oozed sensuality. It made her mind wander. If a simple question sounded like that, what would happen if he said it closer, quietly? Against her ear? Between her legs— wait, what? She snapped her head back, aware of the sexy, slippery slope she could go down and how her nipples seemed to have perked and jumped to attention already. She licked her lip, forgot anything about him being close or between anywhere, and focused back on their conversation.

“There’s—” Her voice cracked. “A very small contingent of people who’ve genuinely asked me if I’m okay. Colin probably being the most direct and most interested.”
