The Wright Mistake by K.A. Linde…Blog Tour & Review

A new stand alone enemies-to-lovers romance by USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

I spent six weeks screwing Austin Wright’s brains out and all I got was this broken heart.

He can’t be trusted. Not with my body or my heart. Yet, two years have passed and I still crave him like an addict needing a fix.

The last time we tried this, it nearly ruined me. I know I should run and never look back. But his dark haunted eyes and razor blade smile speak to my soul. His touch sets my body on fire. And we all know what happens when you light gasoline. Someone is bound to get burned.

A second chance might destroy us both.

Because everyone knows two wrongs don’t make a Wright.

This is the kind of K.A. writing that I love reading. If you’ve read any of my reviews of her last two books in this series, then you know that neither of them really wow’d be. I am so glad that I tried reading this one and not just giving up because this is the best book the Wright series so far. Each book is a standalone but I highly recommend reading them in order because previous characters are mentioned in the book.

The Wright Mistake is Austin’s book. Out of all the Wright siblings, Austin is the one who walks around with a chip on his shoulder and has this sense of entitlement. He’s a functioning alcoholic who pretty much does what he wants and never apologizes for any of his actions. He’s the asshole of family who feels he has nothing to lose. Until he realizes he’s about to lose everything he never deserved to have.

Jensen is stepping down as CEO and Morgan is moving into this position, leaving her position as CFO open. A position everyone assumed another Wright would move into, more specifically, Austin. But the board doesn’t think so due to his actions and his uncontrollable drinking.

Julia Banner is the head of HR at Wright Construction and has had to deal with Austin in her office more times than she count. And it doesn’t help that at one time they had dated until it ended badly. So not only do they have to see each other at work, but Julia is very close to the wives and girlfriends of his brothers.

Julia decides to give Austin another chance, for reasons even she’s not sure of. Austin is willing to do anything to be the man Julia deserves. She knows that Austin has a problem with drinking and states the only stipulation is no alcohol, which he is willing to do. Julia is very supportive of Austin, knowing that it won’t be easy for him. But she also doesn’t allow him to make excuses or take any of his crap.

But Austin isn’t the only dealing with some past problems. Even though Austin numbs his pain with alcohol, Julia is running and hiding from hers. And when she finally has no choice but to tell Austin about it, he’s there to try and help her.

There relationship is not a smooth one. And it’s definitely not pretty one either. They both go through a lot and it really tests their love for one another. It pushes them to make decisions that are extremely difficult, but necessary to move forward, possibly together or separate. There’s a lot of raw emotions that take place in this book, but they are so worth it.

This is my favorite Wright Brother story by far. I love all the high tension running this book mixed with the suspense near the end. Now I am looking forward to some Wright sister stories in the near future.

Excerpt:

Just as she finished her last piece of toast, a knock sounded off on the door to Scarlett’s apartment. Her heart did the samba in her chest, but she pressed a hand over the front of her dark-green tank top to cover the commotion. Eli had said he wanted to stick to business. She could totally do that. They’d be professional. Polite. Work only.

But the perfectly professional, perfectly polite greeting Scarlett had worked up in her head completely disintegrated at the sight of Eli standing on her doorstep with a charming-as-hell smile on his face and a brown paper bag in his hand.

“Morning.” He extended the bag, looking hotter than anyone had a right to. Seriously, who made a hoodie and a pair of banged-up jeans sexy? At five o’clock in the morning? It just wasn’t right.

“What’s this?” she blurted as she took the bag from his outstretched hand, and God, could she be any more graceless?

If Eli was bothered by her distinct lack of a filter, though, he sure didn’t show it. “This is a vegan breakfast burrito.” He paused, tipping his blond head slightly as he added, “And we can add that to the list of things I never thought I’d say.”

Scarlett blinked, trying to piece the words together in a way that made sense. “You bought me a vegan breakfast burrito?”

“No. I made you a vegan breakfast burrito.”

The shock pumping through her veins must’ve taken a detour over her face, because Eli took one look at her and backpedaled. “Okay, sort of. I went up to the main house an hour ago to get a bunch of crates that didn’t fit in the box truck, and Owen was making breakfast burritos. I helped him come up with one for you that fits the bill.”

“Why?”

Scarlett clamped down on her lip just a second too late to bite down on the overly bold question, but to her surprise, Eli just laughed.

“What, is breakfast some sort of sacrilege once you cross the Mason-Dixon Line or something?”

Seriously, she needed to build some sort of immunity to that here-comes-trouble smile of his. Either that or she was going to have to head back to that cute little town where she’d gotten her coffeepot for some cute little batteries to fuel her cute little vibrator.

“No! Nope, mmm-mmm,” she barked, chasing the burn from her cheeks with a sweep of her fingertips. Sure, Eli was good-looking (Fine. He was sex on a stick. Potato-potahto). But they needed to stay professional. That’s what he’d said he wanted.

Only from the look of the cocky, come-and-get-it smile on his face right now, Scarlett wasn’t so sure he’d meant a single word.

Meet the Author:

Anita’s rapid paced storytelling style pulls readers into a parallel universe where mystery, mayhem, murder are the order of the day. Her stories are an addictive diversion, trading the heavy, gray world of real life for a fantastically colorful world where bad is good, and cool is smoking hot.

Her love of mysteries and puzzle solving came from her Grandpa John, who introduced Anita to her first detective hero – Nero Wolfe. Food was as central a character in Anita’s life as it was in Nero’s, where Sunday dinner at Nonna’s table was a command performance.

Excerpt:

Tom couldn’t see where Peach went, and he didn’t like it. What was she going to do with a frying pan against a killer? A door opened, then a solid thump and the landing of a heavy weight. Peach. He was afraid to call out. There was no helping her if he was caught, too. He hadn’t been in a fist fight since college.

“Tom?”

Relief flooded his system at the sound of her voice. “Tell me you’re okay.”

“I need help. The tape Poppy used this morning. It’s on the kitchen counter.”

He found the tape and went to the steps to where Peach stood over the unconscious body. They carried the guy to the basement and thoroughly taped his hands, legs, and mouth. In the windowless basement, he took out his phone and called Jeb.

“We caught one. He’s tied up in the basement. I don’t know if he was alone.”

“No. There’s a minivan on the street, engine running. I’m moving the Escalade into the driveway behind Peach’s house. Be ready to run at my signal.”

“He’s coming,” he said to Peach. “We need to be ready when he signals.”

“What’s the signal?”

He didn’t think to ask that. Engineers were not cut out for this kind of excitement. His head was so busy he couldn’t think at all. “I hope it’s obvious. We’ll get out of this.”

“Of course we will.” He noticed she wasn’t trembling with fear. She wasn’t frantically scrambling or babbling incoherently. Everything about Peach was cool and collected.

Palm South University: Season 3 by Kandi Steiner….Release Day Blitz & Review

Title: Palm South University: Season 3
Author: Kandi Steiner
Release Date: Aug 10, 2017
Add to TBR

Drama. Lies. Sex.

Welcome to Palm South University.

The weather isn’t the only thing heating up in South Florida. At a school where fraternities and sororities don’t exactly play by the rules, relationships are bound to be tested. Parties and sex are definitely key ingredients in the Palm South recipe, but what happens when family issues, secret lives, and unrequited love get tossed in the mix?

Follow Cassie, Bear, Jess, Skyler, Erin, Ashlei, and Adam as they tackle college at a small, private beach town university. Written in television drama form, each episode of this serial will pull you deeper and deeper into the world of PSU.

Where the sun is hot and the clothes are scarce, anything can happen.

My favorite series has returned for it’s third season!!! PSU is my guilty pleasure – it’s like my favorite tv series that I get to binge watch, and in this case, read. And Kandi has left me reeling with needing more already!!!

The third season starts off with them all returning to PSU the following year after their summer break. Bear, Skyler, Ashlei, Jess, Cassie, Adam and Erin are all trying to adjust to their new lives as they each embark on new things this semester.

Ashlei is starting an internship that she has been looking forward to all summer. All of her drama has been put behind her and she’s ready to start anew. However, what she doesn’t expect is to become the CEO of the company to have eyes for her, both in and out of the boardroom.

Bear finally feels less stress now that he knows his younger brother is safe and able to be a kid and not worry about him being with their druggie of a mother. However, when his brothers get their frat suspended for a whole year, he’s doing all the he can to make sure the brothers don’t lose their letters forever.

Skyler – she is just the bubbly girl we all love. She’s trying to figure out if Poker is what she wants to do with her life completely since nothing else really seems to interest her. She takes a ton of different classes, but nothing really entices her. But she does not let any of that get her down – she’s the one character who really makes me smile non-stop.

Erin is trying to move past what happened to her at the end of last semester. She’s been trying to put on a strong front, but Bear sees through it. He’s the only one who knows what happened, but Erin refuses to talk about it. She’s been able to handle it and move forward in her own way, even though that night still haunts her so many other ways. But her focus is on a stronger her and being the best President her sorority has ever had.

Jess and Jarrett are trying the long distance thing since he got an internship over the summer and now has a full time job in NYC. Jess struggles with the new bumps in a long distance relationship and tries not to sound like the needy girlfriend. However, Jarrett seems to be less and less communicative because of his new responsibilities and that takes a toll on Jess. And when Jarrett misses one of their scheduled face times, thinks really hit the fan for them.

Cassie and Grayson are going strong with their relationship even though he’s been signed with an agent and things have been getting way busier for him. Even though it takes her awhile to finally give herself completely to him, he’s patient and understanding with her. But the one thing that is a huge wedge in their relationship is her friendship with Adam. And when push comes to shove, Grayson gives her an ultimatum between the two of them, she’s forced to choose the Grayson, even though her heart breaks over losing Adam and his friendship. But then Grayson gets too comfortable and secrets come out that hurt both him and Cassie.

knows that this year will be extremely busy for him as the new President of his frat. He’s got a lot riding on his shoulders, and he feels he has a lot to prove of himself. And then when Bear’s frat gets suspended, Adam feels a bit more pressure to keep up with the parties and make a bigger name for his frat. As he’s dealing with all that, he’s trying his best to keep things between him and Cassie as friends-like as possible, even though his feelings run much deeper. He’s always there for her when she needs him and this season is no different. He understands that she’s with Grayson, but sometimes the head and heart don’t always work together.

All in all, this was a very chaotic semester for some. For others, it’s the start of more to come. Kandi does a great job of blending the more serious topics along with the normal college antics that go on at college. It’s great watching the sister bond between the girls and knowing they always have each others’ back. Adam and Bear are each holding their own in this group of strong females and stand out themselves equally. I can’t wait to see what Kandi brings us next and I really, really hope we don’t have to wait long.

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

Twisted Twosome by Meghan Quinn….Blog Tour & Review

We’re celebrating the release of  TWISTED TWOSOME by Meghan Quinn!

TWISTED TWOSOME
NA Romantic Comedy
 Purchase: http://hyperurl.co/99udeh
Add to Goodreads: http://bit.ly/2uarCWF

From the first day I met Racer McKay, I knew our interaction was going to be incredibly brief. First impressions really do matter and unfortunately, I didn’t make a very good one.

At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I was never going to see this man again, right?

Wrong! When I’m met with the opportunity of a lifetime, there is only one man in the state of New York who can assist me. And can you guess who it is?

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

So, we reluctantly join forces.

Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.

*Twisted Twosome is a stand alone romantic comedy.

Meghan Quinn, I love you so hard!! Please do not ever stop writing! Twisted Twosome is Racer’s story – we met him in My Best Friend’s Ex and I am so glad that he got his own story!!

As with a lot of Meghan’s books, this is a romantic comedy. Meghan really has a niche for this genre. She’s never too over the top with the antics or silliness. She has a perfect blend of humor and romance with some added angst to make the story come together. While, some things are sort of cheesy, I love that Meghan herself points these things out and it just really makes the book all the more enjoyable. But it’s truly her balance of everything that makes her rom-com books stand out.

“You learn to live freely when you lose a piece of your heart.”

In Twisted Twosome, Racer has to take on side construction jobs to help keep his afloat with all the bills piling up on him. He lost his dad, while he does miss him and the memories, he doesn’t wallow in that grief, he does his best to be what his dad taught him. He doesn’t do the whole pity party and does what he can to earn extra money. Which is how he comes to working for Gerogiana (Georgie) and doing the construction on her business adventure.

Georgie isn’t exactly who Racer thinks she is. She comes from a very affluent family and the few times he’s had to deal with her, she’s always be flouncing around her kitten heels and having her family’s staff wait on her. And Georgie saw him as the rude and arrogant asshole he is when he opens his mouth to tell her off when she cost him a huge chunk of money because of her prancing around in her heels. Yea, these two hit off real well!!

“Make mistkaes, tell the worst truth rather than the best lie, love hard, and be the better man.”

Meghan did an amazing job writing this whole story. The interactions from Georgie and Racer are hilarious and quite entertaining. They hold nothing back from one another, and this just adds to the boiling chemistry between the two. While these two may work the other nerves to the very end, they are both fighting an obvious attraction that is just boiling over at every turn.

The secondary characters definitely add to the humor and crazy. Tucker and Emma make their appearance with their wedding and we get brief glimpses of Adalyn and Smalls. We also meet Georgie’s family (Abe and Averly and her borther Spencer, the playboy) along with her best friend Madison. I am interested to see who Meghan writes about next, but if the ending is any indication, I am thinking it will be Adalyn.

Another fantastic rom-com from Meghan Quinn!!

Excerpt:

“Thanks for lunch, I haven’t had a fine peanut butter and jelly sandwich in quite some time.” Racer takes a giant bite from one of three sandwiches I made him. The man can eat; I just want to know where he puts it all. “What is this, crunchy peanut butter?” He looks over the sandwich, studying it intently.
“Yes, it’s crunchy with mixed berry jam.”
He nods and takes another bite. He talks with his mouth full, which for some weird reason makes him oddly adorable. “Nice touch, George. The peanuts add a nice texture.”
“Are you going all food critic on my PB and J skills right now?”
Lifting his shirt, he dabs away some of the sweat that’s collecting on his forehead, beneath his backward hat. His abs flex with the movement, drawing my attention. Each divot calling out to me to touch, to examine . . . to lick.
“I think every human should be judged on their PB and J skills.”
I pull my eyes away from his stomach just in time not to get caught staring. “Why do you think that?”
“Because,” he takes another bite, “I think building a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is in everyone’s repertoire, but only the truly skilled know how to make a proper one. And I want to be friends with the truly skilled.”
“Is that so?” I take a drink of my green tea and study him for a second, watching the way the muscles in his jaw move with each bite and swallow. It’s sexy.
His neck is sexy? Is that possible?
“So where do I land on your scale of sandwich artists?”
He smiles from my term, and I realize how much I adore his boyish charm. Pulling his eyes away from me, he examines one of the sandwiches I made him and starts assessing it. “Good ratio of peanut butter to jelly. Nice choice in bread. The crunch you added has been a pleasant surprise, and the mixed berry jam is fucking delightful.” I giggle from his girly term. “But . . .”
I perk up; there’s a but? “But what?”
He quirks his mouth to the side, almost to say, “Sorry, but you’re not quite perfect.” “The bread, it should have been toasted. Toasting it would have taken you to boss level when it comes to the PB and J.”
“Toasting it?”
He nods and takes another bite. “When you don’t toast a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the peanut butter and bread form a paste on the roof of your mouth. Even though it tastes good, it can get quite irritating.”
“But I didn’t have a toaster.”
“Rookie mistake.”
“Well, If I knew I was going to be critiqued, I would have sprung for bacon.”
He pauses mid bite and stares at me over his sandwich. “You’re a beast for bringing up the option.”
I polish off the rest of my sandwich and wipe my fingers. “Well, maybe next time you’ll communicate expectations better. I’m not a mind reader, Racer. Frankly, the fact I didn’t make boss level is on you, not me.”
I stand and gather my trash as he stares me down. “Don’t you turn this on me. You didn’t have a toaster. The toaster is what’s key. This is on you, Georgie. This is on you!” he calls out as I make my way to the back, laughing to myself the entire time.

About the Author:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Porter by Georgia Cates….Release Blitz

Title: Porter
A Men of Lovibond Series Standalone
Author: Georgia Cates
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 4, 2017

Blurb
My
employee’s daughter. The tomboy. The kid who once did odd jobs around the
brewery. That’s all she was… until three years passed and she walked into my
office for an interview.
Frankee
Dawson is no longer that girl I once called Kiddo. She’s grown into a
beautiful, sexy, desirable woman. Very desirable. And that’s a problem. She’s
my employee’s daughter. Lovibond family. And too young for me. Too innocent.

I want to
feel her respond to my kiss.
I want her
body to tremble as she anticipates my touch.
I want to
learn all the places that bring her pleasure.
But mostly
I want her to know that she’s never truly been loved by a man until me.

Frankee is
my intern and under me for the summer. Literally. It’s a difficult secret to
maintain when you can’t keep your hands off each other.

This was
supposed to be a hot summer fling. Sex and fun without commitment—that’s what
we called it. But we were wrong. This is more. I’ve never felt this way about a
woman. Never cared more about someone else’s happiness more than my own.

I love her
and I’m happy. So damn happy… until a terrible mistake from my past springs
forward and threatens to rip us apart.
There are a
million reasons for her to leave me. And trust me, she should. But all I really
need is one good reason for her to stay.

Frankee and
I stayed up until three in the morning. I couldn’t keep my hands off of her.
Not when she was wearing that sexy-as-fuck lingerie.
I’ve never
seen anyone wear anything like that. Sure, I’ve watched porn and seen it on
those women, but never on a real-life woman. And never one in my bed.
Frankee is
like my very own porno princess.
I gave her six orgasms last night—one an hour.
I’ve never done that before. Not that I don’t have the ability. I’ve just never
been inclined to.
“Frankee.”
She doesn’t
stir. Not even a little. I shake her shoulder this time. “Frankee. Wake up,
baby. I have to go.”
She rolls
to her back and slowly opens her eyes. “Someone fucked me into next week.
You’ll have to check back with me when it comes around to see if I can wake
up.”
“You don’t
have to get up, but I do have to go.”
“No. Don’t
go. Staaaay.” She has no idea how badly I want to.
At some
point during the night, Frankee washed off her makeup, and I’m seeing her for
the first time without cosmetics. It’s confirmed. She’s a natural beauty and
doesn’t need that garbage on her face.
“I wish I
could stay in this bed with you all day, but I promised Stout I’d help him move
his stuff to his new house today. I was supposed to be there already, but I
couldn’t bear to leave when you looked so beautiful in my bed.”
I already
know he’s going to give me shit for being late.
“Wait a
minute… before you go.”
Frankee
dashes to the bathroom, still wearing her porno princess attire from last
night. That is one convenient getup. I hope she has more of those.
She returns
from the bathroom with her hair twisted into a topknot. I don’t know what it is
that makes that so damn sexy.
She wraps
her arms around my shoulders and lowers herself to straddle me on the bed.
“Kiss me before you go.”
Her mouth
is minty. And hungry, based on the way she devours my mouth and neck. “Is this
your plan for tempting me to stay?”
Her hands
are working to undo the button and zipper on my jeans. “No. This is.”

Excerpt:

It was the prickle on the back of his neck that warned Blade he was being followed.

Slowing his steps, he forced himself into a casual stroll as he checked out the streets of Bonne, Louisiana. He feigned interest in several glass storefronts that lined the town square, nodding toward the occasional pedestrian who studied him with blatant curiosity—and if he wasn’t mistaken—which he rarely was—a thread of fear.

Clearly, the small town thirty miles south of Baton Rouge didn’t get many visitors.

Of course, it was possible that the men stared because he was six foot four with the hard muscles of a trained athlete that flexed and rippled beneath his faded jeans and ivory thermal shirt. And the women…well, their gazes were clearly trained on his short gold hair, midnight eyes, finely chiseled features, and those wide lips that normally smiled with a charming ease, but were now pressed together with grim determination.

Turning onto a side street, he thankfully found it all but deserted. The town had obviously never been a bustling metropolis, but over the years it’d faded to a sleepy village. Which meant he could deal with his stalker without unwanted attention.

Maintaining his leisurely saunter, he passed by an abandoned gas station that was next to an empty lot. The breeze tugged at his short hair, chilling his skin.

Louisiana had two seasons. Hot and humid. Or cool and humid.

Today it was the latter.

Come on, my friend, he mused to the male who was tailing him. Just another couple of blocks and we can…chat.

At the edge of town, it didn’t slowly ease from commercial to residential to suburbs like most places. It just ended. As if the thick woods ahead of him refused to give way to progress.

Turning, his back to the stand of trees now, he folded his arms over his chest and studied the seemingly empty street.

“Show yourself, Hiss,” he commanded in a low voice.

Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

The Lavender House by Hilary Boyd….ARC Review

The Lavender House is out TODAY!

Synopsis:

Nancy de Freitas is the glue that holds her family together. Caught between her ageing, ailing mother Frances, and her struggling daughter Louise, frequent user of Nancy’s babysitting services, it seems Nancy’s fate is to quietly go on shouldering the burden of responsibility for all four generations. Her divorce four years ago put paid to any thoughts of a partner to share her later years with. Now it looks like her family is all she has.

Then she meets Jim. Smoker, drinker, unsuccessful country singer and wearer of cowboy boots, he should be completely unsuited to the very together Nancy. And yet, there is a real spark.
But Nancy’s family don’t trust Jim one bit. They’re convinced he’ll break her heart, maybe run off with her money – he certainly distracts her from her family responsibilities.

Can she be brave enough to follow her heart? Or will she remain glued to her family’s side and walk away from one last chance for love?

My Review:

The Lavender House is the newest work fro author Hilary Boyd and admittedly the first of her works that I’ve read.  I have to say, I was happy to have found this author and this read was a change of pace for me that I enjoyed.

The story starts out with quite a bang…Nancy’s husband of 34 years drops the bombshell that he’s leaving her.  Talk about a beginning!  What follows is a year in Nancy’s journey after that moment.  Her journey to find love again with a man her family doesn’t really approve of, dealing with numerous family issues including an aging mother, a daughter with her own family and restaurant they run, and truly finding herself again.  I enjoyed seeing the evolution of Nancy from the wife and woman she had been for over 30 years and the road it took to get her there.  There are many ups and downs I felt as I read, especially when Nancy was interacting with her family.  I will admit that there were times I struggled a bit while I was reading as it was at times hard to relate to a woman who is quite a bit older than myself but overall, the situations were things that members of my own family have gone through and looking at it through that perspective made things a bit more relatable.

Overall I’m happy I had the chance to read this book and enjoyed it!
