They stopped at
the door of his trailer, then Shane took the big leap and said, “Do you want to
come inside?”
He saw Ella’s
throat move as she swallowed. “Yes. I would.”
He stepped back
to allow her to enter first, then followed her in, grimacing as his knee did
its best not to cooperate. He set his rigging and his chaps on top of his gear
bag next to the small kitchenette unit, then reached behind him for the door
handle.
“I…um…” Ella
smiled nervously. “What’s the deal with your shoulder?”
Not what Shane
had been expecting. “Partial tear of the labrum.”
“Do you tape
yourself?”
“When I have to.
It’s awkward, but the sports guys aren’t at some of the smaller rodeo.” Shane’s
heart beat a little faster as he said, “Want to see?”
Ella sat down on
the bench she’d slept on less than a week ago. “Yes.”
Shane shrugged
out of his protective vest, tossed it on top of the rest of his gear and
unsnapped his shirt. Ella swallowed again, making him wonder if she’d spent
much time with guys in intimate situations.
Or if it was a
matter of her being nervous around him.
He shrugged out of his shirt and stepped closer so she could see the wrap
job he’d done. She got to her feet and inspected the front, then put a light
hand on his shoulder to turn him, so she could see the back, too. “How many
rolls of tape on your elbow?”
“More than one. I
don’t want to hyperextend.”
She ran an exploratory
hand over the thick layers of white athletic tape covering the area from his
bicep to the middle of his forearm. Then she made the mistake of glancing up.
Their gazes locked and it was suddenly very clear to him what needed to be
done. Ella was of the same mind. They leaned closer at the same moment, their
lips meeting. Her hand tightened on his taped forearm as she welcomed his
tongue into her mouth, teased it with her own.
 Ella dropped her hand away from his
arm and smoothed the hair from her forehead as she pulled back. “Just so you
know, I didn’t ask to see the tape job as an excuse to have my way with you.”
 “You can’t imagine how disappointed I am.”

I am loving every installment of this series.

Meredith keeps on delivering a suspenseful and enticing plot. Just when you think things can’t get any more twisted or convoluted, Meredith throws in another curve ball and has you more on the edge of your seat.

You will find yourself completely vested in this plot, these characters and needing to know what happens next.

I know I am being absolutely vague as to what happens in this installment and that is on purpose. Every detail is an important part of how things are being played so any specific details may give away a huge part of the suspense and twists thrown at you.

All you need to know is that Tristan is still remembering parts of his past with Isabel and that these two are still making new discoveries as they find out the answers to some questions but left with even more.

This book felt the most intense since the first one and I loved it!! I cannot wait to see where this all leads to.

“Have you seen the new ranch hand?” Callie gushed to her coworker Svetlana.

Svetlana—aka Lana—took a break from mopping and looked at Callie. “I cannot keep up with all of the new hires,” she said with a sniff.

“Oh, come on. How could you have missed him? I swear his hotness even made Mrs. Gradsky blush—and she’s been surrounded by good-lookin’ cowboys her whole life.”

“Did our boss lady catch you drooling over this man?”

“God no. I was literally hiding in the bushes outside the office as I picked up trash.” Callie sighed. “I had to stay still even when I wanted to break the damn branches to get a better look at that killer ass of his.”

“You were checking out his…?”

Her mind supplied “package” but virgin Lana would blush ten shades of crimson if Callie admitted that. Instead she said, “Behind? Of course. Such a hardship, watching that perfect cowboy butt sauntering away from me. But he did me a solid before he disappeared inside the office. He turned around and his frontside was just as delicious as his backside.” She whistled. “The man has it going on. Dark blond hair, vivid green eyes, great smile.” Amazing smile. Even from thirty feet away the man oozed charisma.

“You are what my mama used to call boy crazy,” Lana said.

“I’m not interested in boys. I’m interested in men.” Not that a man like him would take interest in her, especially not when she was covered in dust after a full day of doing grunt work.

“You are certain this new ranch hand is not married?” Lana asked.

“I assume not since he’s living in the bunkhouse with the rest of the hired hands.”

“How do you know that?”

Because curiosity had gotten the better of her. Despite Lana’s claims there were too many new hires, there actually weren’t. The Gradskys paid their employees very well, so employee turnover at the rodeo school or the ranch associated with the school was nearly nonexistent. When a new school session started there was an influx of students and parents, but the local staff only increased by two or three. And in the year she’d worked there, none of the hires had looked like him.

“Cal-lee,” Lana accused, stretching out her name. “You followed him.”

“I noticed him and another guy hauling some stuff from the parking lot into the bunkhouse.” She frowned. “He didn’t have much, now that I think about it.”

“Probably because he got kicked out of wherever he was living before. If he’s that good looking the guy’s probably a major player.” Her eyes took on a mean glint. “I hope if he cheated on his wife she took him for everything and he has to start over with nothing.”

Lana assumed the worst about everyone—men especially. Which made zero sense since she’d never had a boyfriend.

“Life is about mistakes. It’s how we correct them that matters.”

This book can be pretty much summed up by that quote.

The Tenth Girl has the plot of books and movies that I have read before. But it’s the characters and the writing that makes me really enjoy this story and Carrie’s take on the idea of “boy makes stupid bet, falls in love and possibly loses girl.”

Cain is the star quarterback in his senior year, prepping to go to the most best college he can for football. Harper is the new girl at school after she and her mom move back to Texas for her senior of high school. Harper becomes Cain’s next target, but what ensues is nothing either expected.

I love that Harper maybe innocent in some aspects, she has a good head on her shoulders and doesn’t always fall right into the “stupid girl” daze. Cain has his douchebag moments, but I like that Carrie paints him a different light than most books too. He has the jock vibe, but he’s not a complete dick either.

“I am what you designed me to be. I am your blade. You cannot now complain if you also feel the hurt.”

Harper and Cain are fairly mature for their age with certain aspects, but sometimes do act a bit childish in their actions at times. As with all teenage love, they don’t talk things through and the need to create more drama than necessary is added in, but I think it helps add to the overall vibe of this story.

There is a lot to this story that I enjoyed reading and found entertaining because it just added more to the book. The cliché secondary characters, the parties, the nastiness coming from the school’s queen bee – I love these additions in this book – without it, the YA vibe would have been lost and felt too mature for kids still trying to figure out what the hell they are doing in life.

If you are in the mood for an easy and entertaining read – I highly recommend this one.
