When Keri said that she was going to write a romantic thriller, I was all-in, no blurb needed.

Just when I think that Keri has taken us to the darkest recesses her of mind, she draws us down another dark alley with her twisted musings.

Voss is a very twisted man that I am not sure we will ever understand. He may be able to “control” his wants, urges and desires but I don’t think he will ever be able to truly control himself.

Nola’s family is definitely fucked over by fate – no way else to say it. Somewhere along the time, someone in her family pissed off a higher being and now Karma is having her fun with them.

The Sandman – who is he really?!?! How does he know Nola and what he does want with her? We have an idea how Voss plays into this, but that still remains a bit of a mystery too. What does the Sandman want from him??

I have to say that I am quite intrigued by the whole suspense and thrill of this story. The romance definitely plays second fiddle to it but it’s a nice blended feature. The sex in this book is definitely more on the erotic side and even a bit disturbing at times. However – that is what adds to the thrilling part of this story – without the depravity of those scenes, this book would be lacking.

Overall, I have no doubt this duet will be a smashing hit as a romantic thriller. Aside from a thing or two that bugged me, this book is an amazing start to the duet. I am so glad that we do not have long to wait for the second book to release; I am anxiously waiting on pins and needles to see what else Keri can surprise us with.

The entire day had been building up to this moment, at least in Colt’s eyes. It felt like hours of foreplay, which was exciting rather than frustrating. He hadn’t been this eager to be with a woman for as long as he could remember. He’d dated, but after the incident overseas, he’d lost the desire for any kind of relationship. He concentrated on being the best commander he could be to protect the men who served under him.

“Today was awesome,” Macie said softly. They were sitting on the couch in the spacious suite, each drinking a glass of wine.

“Yes it was,” Colt agreed. Her hand was resting on his thigh and he covered it with his own.

She stared at him for a long moment before leaning forward and putting her glass on the coffee table in front of them. Then she took his glass from his hand and placed it next to hers. Colt watched her take a deep breath before she spoke.

“I haven’t been this relaxed in a long time, and it’s because of you. Usually when I’m in a strange city, I stress about directions, who’s around me, and what my plans are for the entire day. But I didn’t have to do any of that with you. I trusted you to know where you were going and that you would figure out what we would do all day. It felt good. I like being with you, Colt. I have a question, and I hope you’ll be honest with me.”

“Of course I will,” Colt answered immediately.

“Does the difference in our ages bother you? Or the fact that I’m Ford’s sister? I know he gave you a hard time about the night of his wedding. I hadn’t told him about it because I thought you saw me as just a friend or something. But now that things are…better between us, I got to thinking about the fact that I’m a decade younger than you are.”

“It doesn’t bother me in the slightest,” Colt told her. “In fact, I hadn’t even thought about it until you brought it up. Does it bother you?”

“No,” she said immediately. “But I don’t want you to get in trouble or have anyone at work say anything because I’m only thirty-three and you’re forty-three.”

“Listen,” Colt said earnestly. “We’re both adults. I like you, and you like me. I don’t give a flying fuck what other people say about us. And, if you do care, I’ll do my best to shut that shit down if I hear it. What goes on between us is only between us. It’s no one else’s business. And Truck and I talked. He loves you, Mace. Even though you weren’t communicating, he still thought about you and worried about you all these years. I’ll admit that he wasn’t happy with me, but he’s not going to be thrilled about anyone being with you, simply because you’re his little sister.”

“Okay,” she said.

“Okay?” he asked.

“Yeah.”

My Review:

Every Last Breath is the first in a new series from author Juno Rushdan and the first of her work I’ve read. Well, after being on the edge of my seat reading since I first picked up this book, I can assure you I’ll be following the rest of this series. This book was awesome!

There was so much I loved about this book. To start, Maddox is one amazing kick-ass heroine with a past that shaped who she is today. It’s a past laced with heartbreak and loss and a past that haunts her every day. I loved her. Cole has an equally messy past that, we find early on, intertwines with Maddox’s in a family drama way that I couldn’t way to dive into. It was deliciously messy and scandalous and added a layer to their current reunion that broke my heart. Together, the sexual tension between them filled the pages and made the dangerous task at hand even more tense. Oh man, how I loved all of it!

Adding to these two dynamic characters is a whole cast of super-secret special ops badasses I have no doubt we’ll be seeing more of all of them as the series continues.

Filled with twists, turns, action, smoldering sexual tension, and one helluva cast of characters, this story was incredible from start to finish. Thank you, Ms. Rushdan, for a fabulous read! I can’t wait to see what’s in store!

Sin & Discipline is another amazing standalone book from Lil White and she doesn’t let her readers down at all.

Lennon Carter is musician dedicated to his craft and is well-known for the music he creates. He’s returned to his old stomping grounds as a teacher for a music program that will aware a scholarship to an exemplary and prestigious music school.

Amelia is one of the 100 students who will be auditioning for the scholarship and is placed under Lennon’s teachings. However, their initial meeting was not quite what she anticipated.

Lily White does a great job of taking a delicate story line and not blowing it completely out of proportion and overdramatizing. I love how things come to fruition, blend and work out. There is no unnecessary drama and she holds true to the characters’ maturity.

While there is a mild taboo, it’s nothing outrageous and I think many readers won’t be appalled by it. There is quite a few blazing hot scenes with a smide touch of BDSM/Erotica – I would describe it as a good peak at what could be. I love that some scenes Lily plays out while other scenes, she leaves it your imagination and I find that sometimes even hotter.

Overall, I was truly engaged in this story from start to finish. I enjoyed the underlying suspense that blended well with the taboo and sexy scenes. While the ending felt slightly rushed and a bit abrupt, sometimes it’s just better to leave as is and allow the reader to imagine what they want for the couples future.

“Who are you, Amelia Dillon?”

Confusion flooded me. “What?”

It bothered me how my question came out more as a startled squeak than a word.

He grinned, just the corner of his lips curling with lazy satisfaction. Reaching out with his free hand, he trapped my chin between his fingers, holding my gaze to his without concern that I hadn’t invited the touch. Electricity sparked where his skin met mine, my head dizzy, my breath as uneven as my heartbeat.

“Who are you?”

My heart was in my throat, beating staccato so hard that I swore I was a few seconds from passing out. “I don’t-“

The gentle tone of his voice was at odds with his question. “Are you the shitty little thief hiding in a hoodie and baggy jeans? Or are you a musician who demands respect based on her talent and discipline?”

He was enjoying this moment far too much, the truth of his amusement written in the line of his lips, the sleepy look in his blue eyes. It only frightened me more.

“I’m a musician,” I whispered.

Mr. Carter leaned forward and I panicked, my eyes locked to his lips. He shouldn’t have been this close to me. There had to be rules against this. He didn’t seem to care.

I wasn’t a girl to be pushed around or controlled. Yet, in his presence, I stilled in place, unable to find the willpower to fight or move away.

Breath hot against my cheek, he whispered, “I don’t think you are. I think a musician would know better than to risk her hands acting like a stupid hoodrat that robs people. I think a musician knows better than to question the man who will be judging her performance. I think-“

My lips parted on a tremulous breath.

“-you didn’t believe me when I warned you I would spank your ass red if I ever caught you doing something so stupid again.”

There was no question about it; I was three seconds away from passing out.

He knew it and I knew it, his blue eyes locked to mine when he warned, “You should know that threat extends to you questioning me in class as well.”
