Book 2_Holding Strong by Lori Foster_cover

Synopsis:

An up-and-coming MMA fighter wants more than just one night from a woman fleeing her past in Lori’s irresistible new novel.

Heavyweight fighter Denver Lewis plays real nice, but he doesn’t share. That’s why he’s been avoiding top-notch flirt Cherry Peyton. But a man can only resist those lush curves for so long. Their encounter surpasses all his fantasies, bringing out protective urges that Cherry’s about to need more than she knows…

Denver’s combination of pure muscle and unexpected tenderness has been driving Cherry wild. Yet no sooner does she get what she’s been craving than old troubles show up on her doorstep. And this time, Cherry can’t hide behind a carefree façade. Because the man by her side is one who’ll fight like hell to keep her safe…if only she’ll trust him enough to let him…

My review:

Holding Strong is the second book in author Lori Foster’s steamy and sexy MMA fighter series and focuses on the uber alpha fighter Dallas and the sweet and kind Cherry. From the very beginning the heat rose up off the pages and drew me in. Then the suspense took hold and I was a goner. This book was fantastic.

Denver and Cherry had been denying a mutual attraction for too long. Denver thought she was too sweet and pure for him. Cherry thought he was too hard and tough for her. Neither one could have been more wrong and finally, after denying the attraction for far too long, they both concede defeat and give into the heat. And oh, my, was it hot. Before either one can realize it, the sex they share seals the deal and solidifies things between them and takes the from friends to lovers. But it wouldn’t be that easy a transition and they have to wade through emotional waters as they both learn how to love one another. As if that wasn’t a hard enough challenge, both of their pasts decide at that moment to come back to haunt them. It would prove to be difficult, but with each other to lean on, certainly they would be able to weather the storm…all while staying alive.

Honestly, between the heat and steamy scenes and the suspense and mystery surrounding both characters, I don’t know what I enjoyed most. I loved Denver for his take charge attitude and his willingness to take care of his girl. Whether it be an illness or someone threatening her safety, he was so good to her and it was totally swoon-worthy! Cherry was equally enjoyable with a huge heart and a penchant for taking care of herself without any help. She was strong and had live through a childhood no one should have endured. But she realized that had made her stronger today and I really appreciated that. Now, the scorching heat between them? Delicious. I loved that because they already had a friendship of sorts they were able to start out hot and heavy. Mmmhmmmm!

Overall, another hot and thrilling read form Lori Foster that had me hooked! And of course, I can’t wait to see what’s next for my favorite MMA fighters!

Synopsis:

Nothing has ever come easy for Lila Bailey. She’s fought for every good thing in her life during every day of her thirty-one years. Aside from that one night with an impossible to deny stranger a year ago, Lila is the epitome of responsible.

Steadfast. Strong.

She’s pulled herself out of the train wreck of her childhood, proud to be a professor at Tulane University and laying down roots in a city she’s grown to love. But when some of her female students are viciously murdered, Lila’s shaken to the core and unsure of whom she can trust in New Orleans. When the police detective assigned to the murder case comes to investigate, she’s even more surprised to find herself staring into the eyes of the man that made her toes curl last year.

In an attempt to move on from the tragic loss of his wife, Asher Smith moved his daughter and himself to a new city, ready for a fresh start. A damn fine police lieutenant, but new to the New Orleans force, Asher has a lot to prove to his colleagues and himself.

With a murderer terrorizing the Tulane University campus, Asher finds himself toe-to-toe with the one woman that haunts his dreams. His hands, his lips, his body know her as intimately as he’s ever known anyone. As he learns her mind and heart as well, Asher wants nothing more than to keep her safe, in his bed, and in his and his daughter’s lives for the long haul.

But when Lila becomes the target, can Asher save her in time, or will he lose another woman he loves?

My Review:

Easy With You is book number 8.5 in author Kristen Proby’s With Me In Seattle Series, as well as story number 3 in the 1,001 Dark Nights 2015 line-up, and serves up on hell of a crossover between author Proby’s Seattle series and her new Boudreaux series. I loved every sexy and thrilling minute of this story.

Lila and Asher meet when she falls, literally, into his lap on a flight and while the attraction was there, neither one of them thought to take it to the next level by getting a phone number. Fate fixes that when they run into each other again at a bar one evening. Realizing that this second chance meeting isn’t one to be ignored, they take advantage of it and spend one hot, delicious, sexy night together. But still, no phone numbers exchanged. They both knew it was better that way. Asher was a single father now and he needed to focus on his daughter and his work. He didn’t want to form any kind of bond with a woman that could one day come back to hurt him. Like the bond he once had with his wife. The wife that was now gone. Lila had her reasons as well for wanting to focus on her work and life, most of which were courtesy of a less than stealer childhood.

Soon enough, though, fate plays her hand again and puts these two together when there’s a serial killer on the loose at Lila’s university. She had no idea Asher had moved to her town and was now heading up the case. She had no idea how seeing him again would affect her. The same can be said for Asher. This case brings out a protective side in him that he can’t ignore. He would do whatever needed to be done to keep Lila safe.

With their attraction still just as heated as it was the last time they saw one another, and the added emotion with danger lurking just out of sight, things between Lila and Asher will reach a fevered pitch in the most delicious of ways.

Oh, my. From start to finish, this novella had me glued to the pages. Asher is take-charge and protective. He truly shines as a single father and he had me swooning too many times to count. I loved how he loves his daughter. Lila is strong and determined with a good level head when it came to knowing when to take the protection Asher was offering. Nothing annoys me more than a heroine that just won’t listen to reason and Lila was the complete opposite. Together they are a beautiful match and really burn up the sheets *fans self*.

The combination of suspense, heat, and stellar characters was simply fabulous. It was also a combination that was perfectly balanced. There wasn’t too much or too little of one of the layers and I really appreciated that. I have found a lot of romantic suspense stories tend to lean towards the lighter side when it comes to the sex and it leaves me feeling a bit let down. Not this one. Oh, not even a little bit…the sexy scenes in this novella were delectable.

Thank you Kristen, for a fantastic read! I hope we see more of your romantic suspense in the future because you rocked it!!

Guest Post:

The Warrior Most Likely… by M.L. Buchman

I’m currently celebrating the release of the sixth book in my Night Stalkers military romantic suspense series Bring On The Dusk. In the story, long-time team member Colonel Michael Gibson of Delta Force finally finds true love with pilot Captain Claudia Casperson.

Each book in the series has followed the battles and loves of members of the real-world’s U.S. Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. These are the best helicopter pilots and crew on the planet, far in advance of even our closest allies.

The fictitious 5th Battalion D Company was founded by Major Mark Henderson and it is he who has overseen the building of the unit. But in many ways it is the wife he met in Book #1 The Night is Mine who has overseen the lives and loves of those who fly for the 5D. In six books, there has been a wide variety of personalities and skills.

One of the unexpected joys of having the opportunity to build a cast over the course of six books (and yes, there is already a 7th in planning) is learning more about them as each book progresses. Even though Emily and Mark were book #1, Kee and Archie book #2 I Own the Dawn, or Trisha and Bill book #5 Light Up the Night, both the writer and the reader learn more about them as we go. It’s part of the joy of the journey.

So fans look back and ask: Who Is The Warrior Most Likely To …

·         … use the ejection seat from their helicopter after a dangerous run in with enemies?

Surprisingly, or perhaps not, there is only 1 helicopter (excluding James Bond) that has an ejection seat, the Russian Kamov Ka-50 assault helicopter. The problem is that if you eject upward, you hit the rotors. (The Kamov carries heavy explosives to sever the blades and a heavier rocket seat to eject the pilot.) If you eject downwards, well helos tend to fly very low so you’re going to be propelled straight into the ground.

All that aside, who is the warrior most likely to get his butt shot out of the sky…but survive? Major Mark Henderson takes the cake on that one. He’s shot down over Uzbekistan in I Own the Dawn(where it is noted that it is far from his first time). He also trashes a perfectly good stealth Black Hawk inTake Over at Midnight. I often think the only reason he didn’t crash more of them was because left the military to fly in the Firehawks firefighting series. In that, he flies his command plane with his kid aboard and Emily would kill him if he crashed with her aboard!

·         …not wait for backup?

Lola LaRue Maloney and her husband Tim are always pushing the limits. Are they that stupid, nope, they’re that good. Just check them out in Take Over at Midnight or Light Up the Night.

·         …decorate their military living quarters with pictures of their significant other?

Curiously I think this is the notoriously unsentimental Sergeant Kee Stevenson…and it would surprise her no end when you pointed it out. Her best friend Connie from Wait Until Dark would have mechanical diagrams on her walls. Michael and Claudia from Bring On the Dusk would each carry a small picture of the other next to their hearts.

But Kee had no past and keeps being surprised at having Archie and Dilya in her life and is fascinated each time the moment is captured. She remains herself, but it is a part of her that she doesn’t recognize, the big heart that she wears right on her sleeve.

And now for a fun one!

·         Who is the most likely to have a little too much fun celebrating a successful mission and end up karaoke-ing the night away?

I think this would fall to “The Girls of the Night Stalkers.” I can just see them in a band like Donna and The Dynamos in “Mamma Mia.” Trisha and Lola completely leading the way. Connie checking their sound balance. Kee beat boxing in the background, but only after she’s had at least a half a beer. Claudia dragged reluctantly onstage for the sweet ballads, and slipping away at the first opportunity. And Emily, sitting back with Mark, a kid on a her lap, and a clear expression that informs her friends that she wishes them all the best and says “Don’t even think about it.”

My review:

Bring On The Dusk is the sixth book in author M.L. Buchman’s Night Stalker Series, a series I have loved since stumbling upon a few years earlier. With each book I grow to love the series more and more and with Bring On The Duck, I have found my favorite in the series thus far. Claudia and Michael’s story was beautiful and thrilling. I loved everything about it.

Captain Claudia Jean Casperson is the newest pilot and member of SOAR, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. This is something she has dreamed of her entire life and now she had finally made it. She had been bitten by the flight bug when she was just a little girl and the need to fly had never left her. Since then, she had worked hard though Annapolis and the Marine Corps to make it to where she is right now. She took pride in her skill and pride in always being prepared. Pride in her ability to assess situations and remain level-headed and in control. Most of that had earned her the nickname “The Ice Queen”, but she hadn’t really minded much. It kept the men at bay and when it came to military men, that was fine by her. That all changed when Colonel Michael Gibson got into her helicopter and into her life…

Colonel Michael Gibson excelled at what he did. He didn’t get to be his rank in Delta Force without excelling. He loved the solo aspect of his missions. He had always been a solo kind of guy and enjoyed things that way. No attachments. It kept his life light and simple. Like his childhood had been in the Redwood tress of Oregon. He liked blending in and no one taking notice of him. One, because he didn’t crave the spotlight and two, because he could take more of his surroundings and the people in his presence when he was quietly observing from the shadows. People had always been interesting to him but no one had ever captured his attention more than the SOAR pilot that had picked him up the night before. Claudia Jean Casperson was a woman and pilot like no one he had ever known. There was a quiet grace about her that matched his own. Captain Casperson just may be the only woman who had the ability to make him want more…

The immediate attraction and pull between Claudia and Michael is something neither one can ignore. It’s strong and powerful and something neither one has ever experienced before. But when a black in black mission comes their way, their budding relationship will be put to the test when one of them may not make it back alive…

There is just something about the way author Buchman wrote these characters that made my heart sing. Michael has a quiet and intense way about him that drew me in from the very start. It’s quite opposite of the way one would think a Delta Colonel would be. He isn’t one to brag or stand in the spotlight. He isn’t one to act the macho part. I loved that about him. Claudia is equally amazing. She is strong, determined, and goes after what she wants at every turn. Especially when it came to Michael. I loved that she was willing to take charge and risk her heart when it came to him. Together they are quite dynamic. They balance each other out beautifully and there is a light humor and banter between them that comes out every now and then that had me chuckling. They truly just got one another on a different level. One of my favorite parts that I must mention is when Michael takes Claudia to the redwood tress he grew up in…that bit of this story will stay with me for a long time. That was the point I really fell in love with these two characters. There was laughter, frustration, emotion, and plenty of heat.

While the writing in this book is heavier on the technical military aspect than other books in this genre, it’s always balanced out well with well-developed characters and plenty of emotion. Thank you, Mr. Buchman, for another amazing addition to the Night Stalker series!

Wild Horses by B.J. Daniels…Blog Tour Stop & Review

22859480
Synopsis:

It took only one impusive moment on an empty two-lane highway to cost her everything.

A man’s responsible for his own prosperity—especially if he’s Cooper Burnett, the most determined cowboy in the West. No one knows what he sacrificed to claim a piece of Beartooth, Montana, for himself and his beautiful fiancée, Livie. No one knows what he’s willing to do for love…until a stranger’s twisted vendetta threatens the happy ending they should’ve had long ago.

One fateful mistake isn’t the only secret Livie Hamilton is keeping from her fiancé. Victimized during a treacherous blizzard by a man she thought she could trust, she’s pregnant…but unsure who the father is. With an unknown blackmailer threatening to expose her, she must confess to Cooper and trust he’ll still protect her. But when the truth falls into place, she may lose the only man she’s ever loved—or worse.

My review:

Wild Horses is the first book in author BJ Daniels’ The Montana Hamilton’s Series and kicks off this new series with one of the most suspenseful and amazing stories I’ve ever read. I loved every nail-biting second!

While this story primarily focuses on soon to be married senator’s daughter Livie Hamilton and cowboy and horse trainer Cooper Burnett, there is much more brewing in the small town of Beartooth, Montana.

Cooper never really believed he deserved the beautiful and kind senator’s daughter, Livie. Of course, she did everything she could to convince him otherwise. He was everything she wanted in a man and future husband. He was hard-working, handsome, caring, and loyal. But those niggling feelings were always in the back of his mind. Those feelings led to an argument one evening and Livie leaving the house angry, upset, and as it would turn out, head-on into a situation that would threaten their future together, lead to blackmail, and possibly even threaten the future of her father and his bid for president of the United States.

As is that wasn’t enough on the Hamilton’s family plate, the mother Livie and her sisters thought they lost 22 years ago shows up with no memory of the time she lost with them. Where had she been?  Had she left them and never thought about them for all this time? Do they want to include her in their family again?

Being a wealthy and politically prevalent family, you would think they would be used to people looking for an angle to take advantage of them…or worse, letting jealousy spur plans to ruin them. To an extend, they were. But things have never gotten to this level and when it all comes entirely too close to home and involves old feelings of hatred and jealousy, no one is safe from the evil it brings.

Holy HELL! This book was amazing. Packed with mystery, murder, suspense, envy, greed, and high emotion, I was hooked. Add to that a cast of characters who had my guessing on the extent of their shadiness and I was kept on the edge of my seat from the very first chapter. Author Daniels did a phenomenal job with dropping breadcrumbs along the way that kept me satisfied but still hungry for more. I loved every angle that was introduced and was a nervous wreck for Cooper and Livie and wanted them to get the happily ever after they truly deserved. Adding to that was the sudden reappearance of this long-lost mother and blackmail letters coming from a mysterious man, and I was devouring pages to see what would happen next. I love experiencing a read with that impact!

Now, I can’t give anything away here in regards to how things end up for the entire Hamilton family and with so much packed into this book I certainly don’t want to ruin even one moment for a fellow reader, so you’ll have to grab a copy and see the outcome for yourself (insert evil laugh)

Thank you, Ms. Daniels, for taking this reader on one of the best roller-coaster rides I’ve read. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next!

MAKE-ME-UP-1600x2400

Synopsis:

Former special ops-turned private-investigator Cam Hardy leaves a trail of broken hearts wherever he goes. He’s all charm and sex appeal, and who can blame him for putting it to good use? Besides, it works damn well on the stunning and tough-as-nails makeup artist Drea Sanford. Only this time, Cam may be in over his head…

Drea is trying to keep her naughty affair with Cam a secret. After all, he’s Harbor City’s version of a Casanova…if Casanova had a motorcycle. When Cam makes their hot little liaison known to the public, however, Drea vows never to have sex with him again. Then one of her clients turns up dead. Now Drea is suspect number one—and she needs Cam’s help. But sleeping with him is one thing…trusting him is quite another.

teaser 3

My Review:

Make Me Up is the third book in author Avery Flynn’s Killer Style series and is now, hands down, my favorite of the series thus far. Between the characters, the murder mystery, and the thrill a minute action, this book was amazing!

Makeup artist Drea Sanford is in quite a pickle at the moment. The client she had just applied lipstick to has keeled over. Dead. And at the moment Drea was looking like the prime suspect. Of course, that couldn’t be farther from the truth but the police didn’t know that. The only person she has on her side right now and willing to help her was Cam Hardy. The same guy she had been having a behind-closed-doors-not-to-be-spoken-of-out-loud affair with. An affair she had just broken off earlier because he decided to kiss her in public. She was big on keeping her private life private and sleeping with a playboy like Cam should have stayed private. but now she was smack bam in the middle of a murder investigation and needed his help. Soon she would need more of his help when they realize one of the biggest mobsters, for some reason, wants her dead. How much could one girl take? She was stuck between a rock and a hard place….that being murder charges and Cam’s delicious chest.

If they got out of this mess, could she give Cam a chance to be something permanent and public? Would he want to be?

I freaking loved this book! From the word “go” the action and heat in this story are intense and delicious. Drea and Cam have been secret lovers for a little while now and she wanted it to remain that way. Unfortunately, fate had a different idea and leaves her with no choice but to put her life in Cam’s hands. Which after a while she realized wasn’t a bad place to be. She was shown a totally different side to him when the chips were down and it was a side that was hard to resist. He’s strong, smart, and beyond capable of saving her life. She just has to let him. Not an easy task for a gal who has been on her own for too long to remember. Both Drea and Cam have sad pasts and that just helps their connection grow and by the end of this story their bond is solid. I loved these two so much together! Their chemistry is off the charts and while I understand why Drea is guarded, I was so happy she decided to let Cam in. Cam is a perfect match for her and is strong and soft when it comes to Drea. He just gets her and why she is the way she is.

Adding to all of their fabulous heat is the murder mystery and suspense that had me on the edge of my seat for almost the entire read. Avery knocked it out of the park with this story! I was completely glued to my eReader from the very first page and couldn’t put it down until I read the last word.

Make Me Up was fun, flirty, sexy, and packed with thrill and suspense. I loved everything about it and I can’t wait to see what Avery has in store for us next! Thank you, Avery, for this kick ass book!

Beyond Limits by Laura Griffin….Arc Review

Beyond Limits releases Tuesday 1/27
22609410

Synopsis:

An FBI agent and a Navy SEAL race against time in New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin’s newest Tracers novel. “Griffin delivers the goods!” (Publishers Weekly)

FBI agent Elizabeth LeBlanc is still caught in the aftermath of her last big case when she runs into the one man from her past who is sure to rock her equilibrium even more. Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn is back home from a harrowing rescue mission in which he found evidence of a secret terror cell on US soil. Elizabeth knows he’ll do anything to unravel the plot—including seducing her for information. And despite the risks involved, she’s tempted to let him. Together with the forensics experts at the Delphi Center, Derek and Elizabeth are closing in on the truth, but it may not be fast enough to avert a devastating attack…

Following in the bestselling tradition of the Tracers series, including Exposed, Scorched, and Twisted, Beyond Limits pulls out all the stops with Griffin’s most gripping thriller yet

My review:

Beyond Limits is the 8th book in author Laura Griffin’s Tracers Series and sadly the first of her work that I’ve read. I say sadly because this book was positively amazing and I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to discover Ms. Griffin and her work. I loved everything about this book and it was a thrill ride from start to finish!

FBI Agent Elizabeth LeBlanc hadn’t expected to see him again. After all, she had spent almost a year trying to get him out of her head. She should have known there was no way to dismiss the memory of the sexy and imposing SEAL Derek Vaughn that easily. And of course, fate being the fickle thing she was, the case she was now working on would have to be one that he and his team had just been a part of overseas. If she thought she had been able to erase the effect he had on her, she was sadly mistaken. Everything about him set her senses aflame and now she would have to start the Derek Protection Program steps all over again. If only it were that easy. Derek was not one to be dismissed and he certainly wasn’t one to not act on a hunch when he saw one. Even if it did put his life and career on the line. Now they were working together, albeit way off the books, to stop a terrorist attack on home soil. An attack that involved the people he had just dealt with overseas and the people she was dealing with back on home turf. She knew she only had a thin veil of resolve left when he started bringing up the reasons they should be together. She barely made away with her heart intact last time. Would she have the strength to keep him at arm’s length again? Does she want to? With more than her heart on the line, there is too much on her plate. Derek is making his feelings clear while they search for the threat that could hurt far too many people. It wasn’t just her hurt she had to worry about.

Would they be able to take down the threat before it was too late? Would they take their attraction to the next level if given the chance? With far too much at stake and so many reasons a relationship between them wouldn’t work, would they decide to give their feelings and attraction a chance?

Holy hell! This book was one of the best romantic suspense stories I have ever read. Hands down. The story line and plot were amazing. Just enough technical lingo to make it feel entirely real but not overwhelming that I was bogged down with the details. The characters were just as amazing as the storyline. Elizabeth is a strong woman with good reason to want to keep her heart protected. She knew how SEALS worked, knew the risks they took and knew she couldn’t handle the thought of loving and losing Derek. I don’t blame her in the least, either. But eventually his charm wears her down (I mean how could it NOT?) and she is totally thrown off her axis. Derek is one of the most amazing characters I’ve read. He is smart, resourceful, funny, kind, and has a soft side to him that had me swooning. Together they make one hell of a team and the push and pull, both professionally and personally, was pretty damn terrific to read.

This book, in my opinion, could be made into a movie tomorrow and become a huge hit. The terrorist plot was amazing with twists and turns I never suspected and the romance was beautiful and touching. Hands down, a book I will immediately be recommending to any romantic suspense fan.

Thank you, Ms. Griffin, for giving me a new series to follow and love. I can’t wait for the next installment!

Full Blaze by M.L. Buchan….Blog Tour Stop, Review, Excerpt, & Giveaway

Full Blaze

Synopsis:

When Australian helicopter pilot Jeannie Clark rescues wildfire photographer Cal Jackson from a raging burnover, she doesn’t know she’s bringing aboard a firebrand. Cal is quickly recruited for MHA’s covert operations that reach far beyond the flames. Together Jeannie and Cal are assigned to an overseas operation with a lot more at risk than burning trees. And they’ll need all the skill, love, and trust they can muster if they’re going to survive the heat of this jungle battle.

My review:

Full Blaze is the third book in author M.L. Buchman’s Firehawks Series and the first in this series that I’ve read. I’m a huge fan of Mr. Buchman’s work from his Night Stalker Series and was so excited to get my hands on an early copy of Full Blaze and in true M.L. fashion, this book was thrilling, suspenseful, and super sexy. I loved it!

Female Aussie pilot Jeannie Clark had more than a few choice words for the photographer she was currently rescuing in the middle of her battle against a raging wildfire. Almost as soon as he is in her chopper, one of those choice words was: sexy. But no matter how good-looking he was, it didn’t take away her annoyance at having to pluck him for the fire’s grasp. Even more annoying to her was when she found out he wasn’t just a photog, but also a red card-carrying firebrand. Since her team needed all the help they could get with this fire, it looked like he would be sticking around. A distraction she really didn’t need, especially since on top of being sexy he was also kind and funny and was wearing down her annoyance as fast as the fire was eating up acres. If she didn’t keep her distance she knew her annoyance would grow to attraction and at this moment in time, she had a job to do. So when the head of their operation teams him up with her, to fly with her and use his expertise, she knows she’s so screwed.

Fate couldn’t have intervened better than she did the moment Cal realized he had been rescued…not only at the last second, but by a beautiful Australian pilot. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. She was beauty and grace and was one hell of a pilot. He had never seen anything like her and damn if he didn’t want to get to know her better. Now, after his rescue, they were teamed up and Cal sure hoped it was both on and off the mission. He felt a kinship with this group of people and hadn’t realized how much his life had been missing until her met Jeannie and this amazing group of pilots. Could he ever have the chance to be a part of their team? And Jeannie’s life?

Risking life and limb leads to a connection both Jeannie and Cal never could have dreamed they’d find. But with such a dangerous profession, will they be able to survive fires and dangerous missions in order to make a relationship work.

One of the things I like best about author Buchman’s writing is that it’s not as fluffy as some romantic suspense novels can be. I tend to find his writing enjoyable for that reason. His heroines are always tough as nails and inspiring to read. His heroes realize their partners are strong and independent and let the ladies in their lives be the tough chicks they are and I adore that about them. Even the guys know not to mess with their gals! Cal and Jeannie were no exception. Cal has had a rough life and he broke my heart when he opened up about his childhood. But I knew that past helped shape him into the man he was in this story. Kind, loyal, intuitive. Jeannie has had to bust her chops to get where she is today and her tenacity was admirable beyond measure. Together they make a couple that give and takes and balances out beautifully.

Another reason I loved this story was we got to see two of my favorite characters from the Night Stalker series and it was so great to read more of them!

Thank you, Mr. Buchman, for yet another pulse-pounding and sexy read! Keep them coming!

Excerpt:

Cal enjoyed the ride as they flew high over Santa Barbara, the Pacific Ocean stretching out to fill the horizon as they approached it. Jeannie had left him feeling immensely mellow. He’d never been with anyone who responded to him with such heat, nor offered it right back. And usually heat left him simply greedy for more. Jeannie doused the fires in him just as effectively as she did with her chopper, as if she’d somehow washed his insides clean as well.

Tell her, you idiot.

“You’re an incredible woman, Jeannie Clark of the dark-red hair.” He watched her as she checked something on her instrument panel, then adjusted their heading, ushc a tiny shift that he knew it was a delaying tactic. It was okay, he could wait. There were only the two of them and a breathtaking morning light aboard Jeannie’s Firehawk.

“Why?”

“Let’s see. Chronological or order of importance?”

“Give me a break, Hotshot.”

“Not a chance, Helitack. I could start by enumerating your womanly curves and just how much I enjoyed them last night.”

“And this morning.”

“Reverse chronological, then since we’re covering last night.”

She puttered and turned to glare at him.

“Watch your heading, Helitack,” he ordered her, though she hadn’t wiggled off her flight path in the slightest.

She continued to glare for a long moment before abruptly laughing and turning back forward.

Damn! Why were both of his cameras in the bag? That laugh had lit her up brighter than the morning sun. It was the first time he’d heard it up close rather than across half a camp, and it transformed her from merely incredible to downright magnificent. What in the hell was he doing presuming to even be aboard this woman’s chopper? He had no more qualifications to be here than… Cut it out, Cal. She invited you. That’s enough. Enough for now, anyway.

Hart Attack by Cristin Harber…Blog Tour Stop, Review, & Excerpt

CristinHarber_HartAttack_1400px

Synopsis:

Outside of Titan Group, there are few people that Roman Hart would die for. He’s a soldier, a protector, and he’s haunted that one of the people he should’ve been able to protect didn’t let him. That was years ago, and now a hardened heart and a cocky attitude are his impenetrable shields, until one woman—one challenge—drives him to distraction.

On the outside, Beth Tourne has it all. Luxury car, gorgeous condo, and a job partying with the rich and famous. It’s a plush CIA cover, but she wants more. Anything for an adrenaline rush that can override her guilty numbness and let her forget the tragedy she never saw coming.

Their scars make them perfect operatives. Their mirrored pasts give them deep, wounded reasons to stay alone. But the more they ignore the tension, the more vulnerable they become. Survival means trust. In one another, behind closed doors, and on the job. The only way they’re making it out alive is if they find peace while waging a war.

My review:

Hart Attack is the fifth book in author Cristin Harber’s Titan Group Series and unfortunately the first book in the series I have read. I say unfortunately because I have clearly been missing out on one hell of an amazing series and author. This book is everything a romantic suspense should be. It was exciting, pulse pounding, hot, sexy, and action packed!

Now, I will say that since I don’t know a whole lot of the back story between Roman and Beth, my review may be lacking in that area but I will say that regardless of not reading the previous books in the series, I didn’t feel that I was missing out with the plot that played out in this installment.

Beth Tourne is damn good at her role within the CIA. She’s the pretty face who uses her refinement and social status to schmooze with the high-caliber criminals the government is after and she does her job well. The one major downfall is that she really isn’t taken too seriously by her colleagues and that pisses her off. She yearns for a real assignment she would be able to show off her real skills as a CIA agent. She also yearns for the excitement that type of assignment would bring to help push away the pain she is suffering after a devastating loss in her past. Then there was Roman. Roman, the sexy Titan Group member who has grown to mean something to her despite her attempts at keeping her life focused solely on her career. Both infuriating and intriguing, Beth knows the attraction between them is growing and when she finally has the chance at a meaningful assignment, it may come at quite a cost.

Titan Group member Roman Hart has spent years perfecting his skill as a soldier, fighter, protector, and pompous ass…according to Beth. Beth, the only woman that he wants to both push away and pull closer. The woman who breaks down his defenses and makes him want more. And that scared the crap out of him, primarily because he didn’t know how to handle having the woman he is caring more for day by day in situations that risk her life. He went through the pain of losing someone her loved a few years earlier and vowed never to let anyone get close to him again and to never feel that type of pain again. If only his heart would get on board with that plan. Now Roman must figure out how to handle the risks her career puts her in. Easier said than done for a man like Roman…

With lives and love on the line, both Beth and Roman will have to break down their emotional walls and learn to trust and love again…before it’s too late and they lose the chance at happiness fate has given them.

This was one hell of a book. I was drawn in from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down. The chemistry and attraction between Beth and Roman was done beautifully. It wasn’t soft and sweet. It wasn’t tender and fluffy. It was hard and real. It was honest and raw and I loved all of it. They both have been hurt terribly in the past and have very valid reasons for wanting to push one another away. It was those feelings that made the push and pull between them so delectable. Even though they both wanted to remember the reasons why they should stay away from each other, their hearts have a way of reminding them of just why it’s so damn right to be together.

Adding to their individual emotional turmoil is the complication of Beth’s new assignment and the dangers she is in. Dealing with the wealthy and unsavory will put Beth in harm’s way and possible at the hands of a traitor within the CIA. The suspense aspect of this story played out beautifully and left me white knuckled, holding onto my e-reader and paying Beth and Roman would make it though and get their happy ending. (I won’t give anything away except to tell you that the ending was simply perfect! *dreamy sigh*)

Thank you, Cristin, for an amazing read packed with emotion and suspense. I will certainly be going back to the beginning of the series to enjoy all of the Titan Group members!

Excerpt:

Beth parked in the driveway of his nice house, which sat on a huge piece of property. After a quick knock on the door, it opened. Roman was bruised and battered and shirtless, and the shelved box of feelings came screaming open. Whatever his agenda was, the shirtless hello wasn’t fair.

“No, no, no.” She closed her eyes and pointed blindly. “Turn around, get dressed, and we can try this again.”

She stood her ground and wouldn’t cross the threshold. There was no possible way to remain detached when a wall of perfectly sculpted muscle stood a few feet away. “Roman.” She shook her head. “I’m not a booty call, go find a shirt.”

“Babe.”

She peeked through one eye. Holy shit! He was perfect. Her mouth watered. Definitely dangerous, he was a man who could leave her without a sane thought left.

About HARD TO COME BY:

Derek DiMarzio would do anything for the members of his disgraced Special Forces team—sacrifice his body, help a former teammate with a covert operation to restore their honor, and even go behind enemy lines. He just never expected to want the beautiful woman he found there.

When a sexy stranger asks questions about her brother, Emilie Garza is torn between loyalty to the brother she once idolized and fear of the war-changed man he’s become. Derek’s easy smile and quiet strength tempt Emilie to open up, igniting the desire between them and leading Derek to crave a woman he shouldn’t trust.

As the team’s investigation reveals how powerful their enemies are, Derek and Emilie must prove where their loyalties lie before hearts are broken and lives are lost. Because love is too hard to come by to let slip away…

My review:

Hard To Come By is the third book in author Laura Kaye’s Hard Ink Series, a series I have loved from the very beginning. While I love every character in this series, I have to say, Marz and this book are my absolute favorite in the series so far. There is something about this wounded warrior and his very unlikely love interest that pulled me in from the very first chapter and didn’t let go until the very last page. It was phenomenal!

(I do want to make note that I vote reading the series as a whole before digging into this book. The back story and plot are becoming more involved with each book and I would hate for you to miss something…it’s just too good!)

A team of former special forces operators has been working tirelessly on getting to the bottom of the mystery that got them all kicked out of the army and half of their team killed. It’s this situation that has led them to Emilie Garza’s front door.

Her brother was involved somehow in a drug smuggling mess that was plaguing their city and their lives. She had no idea, however. The team had to get to her and hopefully get some answers. This leads Emilie and Derek Marza to cross paths and set off an immediate, and somewhat forbidden, attraction. What started out as a play to get Emilie away from her house so some of the guys can check it out and see if it held any clues to her brother’s whereabouts, turned into a dinner date and opened up all sorts of feelings between Emilie and Derek. Talk about bad timing. Making matters worse was they the team did in fact find some things and they knew Emilie’s brother was a ticking time bomb and she wasn’t safe. Another date later, Derek was a jumble of emotions. Emilie was going to have to know the truth about her brother soon. And the truth about why she and Derek had met in the first place. How was Derek supposed to let her know he had been lying to her from the second they met? Would she ever forgive him? He had to tell her, and soon…because things with her brother and the other dangers were getting worse by the minute. Would she ever be able to overlook his lies? He really hoped so…she ended up becoming a bright spot in his life and he didn’t want to let her go.

Man. I loved this book. While the story line continues and grows with each book, each installment in the series primarily follows one couple. Derek (aka Marz) and Emilie are the main focus in this book and I loved them together from the word “go”.

On paper, they aren’t a good match. She is the sister of one of Marz’s current enemies. Never a good way to start out. But Marz being Marz, he always looks for the good in a situation and immediately finds it in Emilie. She isn’t involved with her brother’s indiscretions and he knows it with deep certainty. One of his best qualities is always looking at the silver lining. He’s one of the most memorable characters I’ve read and stands out in my mind thanks in part to his character and outlook on life. He’s loyal and smart. Never lets life get him down, despite having lost his leg in the battle that killed half of his former teammates. Always trying to lighten the mood and help carry his friend’s emotional burdens. He has a beautiful soul and he will always be a favorite of mine. Emilie is a perfect match for him. Deeply understanding and equally loyal, she stands up for what’s right even if it may hurt her brother and her family. She’s full of integrity and heart and doesn’t flinch when Marz shows her his physical weakness. They had fate on their side when they met, for sure.

As far as the rest of the story, there were three huge “WHOA” moments that I can’t give away but I will tell you that I cried when I read two and cheered for the third. The story took a turn I didn’t see coming and it’s one that I’m glad it did. There may be hope for redemption of these amazing soldiers in the eyes of the government and I couldn’t be happier! But my lips are sealed…

Laura has done it again with Hard To Come By. Packed with emotion, suspense, action, and well-developed characters, this book is the whole package. I cannot WAIT to continue on with this series and see where the Hard Ink gang is going to end up. Thank you, Laura, for a fantastic book!

Dangerous Denial by Amy Ray…Review

Dangerous Denial cover

Synopsis:

Denying the past proves deadly for BK Hartshaw and Trevor Mayhew in this gripping noir novel where nothing is as it seems. BK is a rising star at a public relations firm, and tonight’s charity ball should be a high point in her career. But a closely guarded secret threatens to destroy her chance for happiness with the only man she’s ever loved… a man who is also hiding a deadly secret. Trevor has tried to put the past behind him, pretending it never happened. But the conniving father he’s been running from for years has finally found him-and is determined to settle the score once and for all. BK and Trevor’s deeply buried secrets are about to catch up with them-and everyone they know and love. Who will pay the ultimate price for their dangerous denials?

“The sins of the parents are visited upon their children in this entertaining thriller. BK’s (short for Beatrice Karen) and Trevor’s lives collide when a charity ball erupts into violence. Tightly plotted suspenseful moments and a deftly-executed plot twist combine to keep readers holding onto this novel until the wee hours.” – Publisher’s Weekly (2008 ABNA review)

My Review:

Dangerous Denial is the first work from author Amy Ray and let me just say, what a fantastic debut it was! Thrilling, gut wrenching and emotional, this book had it all.

Dangerous Denial follows the childhoods of two different children who have similarly awful upbringings. Trevor Mayhew had a horribly abusive father who hated him with ever fiber of his being and took all his anger out on Trevor whenever he had the chance. Trevor’s mother tried to keep him as safe as possible, as often as she could, but when Trevor didn’t have her any longer, the only person he could rely on was his loving grandmother. The grandmother who had kept him safe and taught him what love really was. His grandmother would save him one night, and he would try his best to rebuild his life and bury his past once and for all. BK, while wasn’t abused physically, got her share of emotional abuse while growing up. Her mother and half-sister never missed a chance to make her feel less than both of them. Fat, ugly, nerdy. Once her mother got remarried, she was able to get out from under her thumb and head off to school where she could hopefully thrive. Eventually, fate will bring BK and Trevor together. The questions that remain are have they both been able to overcome their horrible pasts…are they capable of love and being loved?

Whew! This book was freaking amazing. Now, there is a HUGE twist that I can’t give even a teeny bit of away, but it is one of the best twists I’ve ever read. I felt so bad for Trevor and BK and their wretched childhoods. Trevor more than BK. That poor little boy was treated like trash and I felt so awful for him. I wanted to reach into the book and hug his poor beaten body. But I never lost hope that he would eventually get away from the abuse and have a good life. His grandmother was brave and loving and I admired her strength when it came to Trevor and standing up to his monster of a father. Poor BK was always put down, and in the worst ways for a young woman. It was always about her not measuring up and it damaged her self-esteem terribly. Luckily BK met a wonderful friend along the way and they forge a strong bond that BK needed. Now, I can’t tell you how Trevor and BK’s paths cross but I will leave you with this: nothing is as it seems.

The plot was packed with twists and turns and I was kept on the edge of my seat until the very end. I loved that and I loved the “whoa” moment author Ray wrote into this story. It was well done, with subtle hints along the way, all leading up to a fantastic ending.

Thank you, Amy! I will be looking forward to reading more of you in the future!

Hollywood on Tap by Avery Flynn…ARC Review

Hollywood on tap cover

Hollywood On Tap releases today!

Book links:

Amazon  |  Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:

For years, Sean O’Dell has hidden his past as a Hollywood heartthrob from everyone at the Sweet Salvation Brewery. However, the arrival of nosey efficiency expert Natalie Sweet threatens the status quo. It doesn’t help that with her glasses, buttoned-up sweaters and always pulled-back hair that she’s uncovered one secret already: His attraction for hot librarian types.

Natalie has had enough of the strong-and-silent Sean submarining her efforts to change the brewery for the better. She’s ready to do whatever it takes to make her vision a reality, even if that means taking down the pig-headed and too-hot-for-his-own-good brewmaster.

Sizzling attraction battles stubborn determination as Natalie and Sean go head to head in a battle that’s anything but business as usual.

My Review:

Hollywood On Tap is the second book in author Avery Flynn’s Sweet Salvation Brewery Series and after loving the first in the series, I was thrilled to get an early peek at this installment. Well, Avery has done it again. This book was packed with heat, emotion, and suspense and I was hooked from start to finish!

Since her and her triplet sister had inherited her family’s brewery, things for efficiency expert Natalie have been pretty busy. Not only is she trying to figure out the best way to get the business up and running in a more successful manner, but she’s trying to deal with the moody and broody brewmaster, Sean. Dealing with him was the far more daunting task, if you asked her. Sure, he did a great job, but his sexy and silent persona was chipping away at her patience. Before she has time to even contemplate what that could mean, things start going haywire at the brewery and people’s safety is at stake. Can she get to the bottom of the hijinks before someone got hurt all the while she ignores the growing attraction to Sean? God, she really hoped so…

Brewmaster Sean O’Dell had been hidden away from the prying eyes of his former Hollywood life for years now, and he’s never been happier. He loved this brewery. Loved the people. Loved his new life. What he didn’t love was Natalie Sweet getting all up in his business with her flowcharts and suggestions on how to do his job better. He hated the sexy buttoned up way she held herself even more…it was driving him insane with lust and that was the last complication her needs. Deep down he knows, it’s only a matter of time before he makes a move on her. First things first, though. He has to figure out who is trying to sabotage the success of the brewery he’s grown to love.

The attraction between Natalie and Sean is getting hotter and hotter with each passing shared moment and they both realize they won’t be able to deny it for much longer. Will they be able to overcome Sean’s past and whoever has it out for the Sweet family brewery and make things work between them?

What a great book! Avery has a great talent for packing in a lot of suspense and heat into her stories, and along with two fabulous main characters, this book rocked. Sean is quiet and mysterious with an undeniable sex appeal. He was quite the sexy surprise when he takes control of the attraction he feels toward Natalie and acts on it. The poor gal didn’t stand a chance. He is totally delicious. Natalie is all prim and proper on the outside but a bundle of emotion on the inside. She is a complex character and I really enjoyed reading her. Together, they are smoking hot! The chemistry is off the charts and beyond sexy. Adding to the heat was the element of suspense that was also done really well. From the very first incident in the brewery, we are kept guessing as to who could be responsible until the very end. I love that in a book.

Overall, this story is the whole package! I can’t wait to see what Avery has in store next for the Sweet Salvation Brewery family.  Thank you, Avery, for a smoking hot and suspenseful read!
