Trigger by Kirsty-Anne Still….Blog Tour & Review

Title: Trigger (Pericolo)
Author: Kirsty-Anne Still
Release Date: Sept 18, 2015

I used to watch her through the lights. I watched as her body turned and twisted as she morphed into my siren.
I wanted her—I craved every ounce of Ryleigh Turner. But I knew once I had her, all I would do was corrupt every inch of her pretty little soul.
Valentinos aren’t made for tales of love. We star in the horror stories you fear.
We’re the monsters that make you scared to ever hope again.
It’s time that she realises that.
****
He’s watched me for months, given me every reason to allow my curiosity to start killing me slowly.
He makes the world melt away; he makes me want to throw all my inhibitions away and greet him personally. But every time the music ends and the lights lift, he vanishes, crushing my hopes.
Until one day, a moment of chance happens.
How does a man like Dante Valentino cope with a woman as messed up as me?
Easy.
I let him have every inch of my tainted soul.
***
Not all love stories have a beautiful start.
Some just need a perfect trigger.
**This is a dark romance with intense scenes of murder and sex. There is coarse language used throughout. Not for the faint hearted.

REVIEW

Kirsty, you have definitely redeemed yourself with this book!!  I read this first book in this series and wasn’t really thrilled with it.  I almost didn’t want to read this book because of the first book but felt that everyone always deserves a second chance.  And I am sooooo glad that I did.

Trigger starts off with some jaw-dropping action and doesn’t let up from that.  It just gets better and better and even more suspenseful as the book goes on.

“Never forget the devil was once an angel.”

Dante is a lethal man – in many different ways.  He doesn’t apologize for who he is or what he does.  And he doesn’t expect anyone to just walk away from his life and not be scarred by it.

Ryleigh lost her parents at a young age but doesn’t remember much about them.  Now as an adult, she has made her mission to find out what happened to her family and give her self peace finally.

I love how Ryleigh challenges Dante.  She gives him a run for his money.  She may look like a mouse – but remember all mice have seen the worst of things and they know how to defend themselves.

This story is full of suspense, action, romance and some pretty hot sex scenes.  I love how it’s told from both Dante and Ryleigh’s POV’s too.  We see how each of them are going through things.  We understand what they are feeling and gives us a better insight to their actions.

“Destiny is a dance with fate.”

Kirsty does a great job of keeping the book flowing at a the right pace.  You are never once confused as to what is going on.  However, I will say that because the author is from the UK, some will words and phrases are a tad different and may come across differently (hopefully editing may fix this).  And that’s my only quirk with this book and the writing – seeing as how the characters are supposedly from America, writing as though they speak and think has to stay American – otherwise it was sort of takes away from the character’s persona.

Again, I will say that this book truly surprised me and I really enjoyed it.  I personally feel that the author grew with this book.  It feels way more constructed and the delivery was much better.  I am really glad I chose to read another book by her.

As I pull her against my body, swaying to the music, I gaze down at her, and now my breathing shallows. The voice that whispers to me is unknown, dipped in disguise, and doused in addictive tones. It whispers the seed of madness that consumes me – fall in love.
But as always, I decide to stop the thought from burrowing any fucking deeper.
“This is lust, not love, cara. It’s what has you so confused. Lust mimics love to trick a naïve heart.” I keep the conviction strong in my voice, forcing her to understand what it is I want. We may have had this conversation before, but it didn’t do much to heed her rapid emotions. “I’ve never felt lust like this, and I know I never will again, which is why I brought you here. I want tonight to end with you screaming my name. I want to claim you as mine and make you realize I don’t do love.”
“I know you don’t,” she replies, bitterness edges her words. “You don’t need to worry, Dante. I know why you want me here. I got the message loud and clear, but if you think you’re getting into my panties quite so soon, you can think again. My motives here aren’t sexual. That’s just an added bonus.” She narrows her gaze on me, the pupils shrinking as she calmly responds to me. “I think the other evening proved a lot to us. I allowed you to have my entire body, and while I loved the way you commanded me, I won’t give it to you so easily. You’ve had a taste of it, Dante. You can work for another round.”
“I don’t have to do anything,” I respond dryly, ire heating me. “I could have any girl I wanted. I don’t have to wait for you to put out.”
She takes a step back, breaking our connection.
“Go on then,” she tells me, her voice strong. “Go and have any girl willing to give it up to you as easy as I did.” She doesn’t come back to me. “I’m going to the bar, so you go and find a girl as willing as I am to adhere to your sadistic requests.”
I used to be just another Fanfiction writer! That was until one person showed real interest in my work. And then another, and then another, until I had this whole group of people reviewing like crazy and wanting original work from me. I’d spent years writing for free online, I didn’t believe I had it in me to publish something!
But I’m glad I did!! I never imagined pushing my work and striving to reach my ultimate. I never imagined I’d be the girl who started The Viper Rooms! But who am I to deny the inspiration when it hits?
I love writing, it’s a lifeline. I love creating a world that others fall into. I love having the control to make a whole new world. It’s like a dependency, an addictive one. It’s one of the things I’m extremely proud of.
As much as I complain, I love the mini dialogues that go on in my head, the plotlines that attack me when I least expect them to. The ones that jump to life at the most inappropriate times and drive me totally crazy!!
For now I split my life between writing, dreaming, working, and volunteering with children.

(“Something I Can Never Have” ~ Nine Inch Nails)

UNKNOWN

The day I turned fourteen, I tortured a man for the first time. Strung him up naked in one of my dad’s warehouses. Gagged him so I didn’t have to listen to him scream like the traitorous cunt he was as I cut off a different body part every ten minutes. Just as I’d watched it be done numerous times over the past couple of years.

First were his hands and feet, each removed with a single swing of the new sword my father had given me that morning at breakfast for my birthday. I remembered how proud he and my uncles were of my clean, precise form, insisting we all toast with a shot of Baikal vodka after each strike. The alcohol boosted my confidence and conviction, and by the fifth time I walked into the seedy back interrogation room, illuminated only by a flickering fluorescent light hanging in the middle of the cracked ceiling, I felt like The Man himself—invincible, immortal, and on top of the mafia world.

Another swift swipe of my gold-plated sword, and the man was no longer a man, anatomically speaking. And when I brought his pretty bride in to see him one last time, I demonstrated all the ways he would never enjoy her again, brutally fucking every hole her body had to offer, all less than a couple feet from him. His eyelids were stapled open, forcing him to watch as she abandoned their vows and trembled with release on top of my teenaged cock while I viciously pounded in and out of her.

Then, as my family members—both blood and sworn by oath—had their way with her in the next room, I brought my blade to the cockless bastard’s throat and whispered the words “Forgive me, Lord, for I have sinned” in my native tongue as I sliced him from ear to ear.

The entire warehouse erupted in cheers and applause as the lowest associates in my father’s brigade rushed in to clean up the bloody mess before our women and my school friends arrived for the actual birthday party.

I may have been born into this powerful family by chance, but I would die in the Brotherhood by choice.

That was over eighteen years ago, and though I’m now third in line to rule one of the most powerful organized crime rings in the world, a lot changes when a boy becomes a man. No longer am I interested in spending time filleting the scum of the earth or fucking tainted whore pussy. No. I don’t waste my time on that shit any more. I’m saving my wrath for the day the man responsible for the murder of my wife and my brother, as well as a handful of others in my family, stands before me to answer for what he’s done.

And with the Lord above and the Demon below as my witnesses, I swear once I get my hands on him, Vincent Ricci is going to wish with every fiber of his being that I was still that fourteen-year-old boy who didn’t know what it was like to have the most precious thing in the world taken from him. A boy who didn’t know the fierce agony and mind-controlling rage that comes along with losing the person you love most.

The boss of the powerful Ricci Family of Chicago may have been able to evade me and my men for the last two years, but finally, I have the one thing he desires most of all. The one thing that will make him vulnerable and careless and irresponsible.

And she is currently bound to my bed.

Staring down at her as she sleeps soundly, knocked out from whatever drugs they gave her, I can’t help but notice the resemblance of her to my Darya.

Porcelain skin. Thick, dark lashes resting peacefully on her high, prominent cheekbones. Rosy lips so full and lush they beg to be kissed. I’m almost scared to see her with her eyes open. Will she have those same blue sapphires that can…

I stand up abruptly from the bedside chair and step toward the window, peering out at the waves as they lap relentlessly along the rocky Pacific Coast, laughing at myself for the absurd thoughts. Now is not the time to think about lashes or lips or eye color. Now is not the time to adulate over my prisoner—this American Princess, as they call her.

She is only the means to an end.

Because now is the time for revenge.

 Sometimes you reach a
point where you just can’t take any more — a breaking point, some call it.
The day I watched my husband murder the woman who was
pregnant with his child, my point didn’t just break, it exploded like a full
magazine’s worth of hollow points firing through the barrel of a
fully-automatic AK-47.
Literally.
I am no longer his American Princess, nor am I his slave.
Now, I’m a murderer in hiding. My name was Bryleigh Carter
Oliveira, and that was my story.
Translucent is one woman’s story of breaking free, starting
over, and learning to trust again through willful submission.

Hard As Steel by Laura Kaye…ARC Review

Hard As Steel releases tomorrow, 9/22

2_1001 Dark Nights_Laura Kaye_300dpi

Synopsis:

After identifying her employer’s dangerous enemies, Jessica Jakes takes refuge at the compound of the Raven Riders Motorcycle Club. Fellow Hard Ink tattooist and Raven leader Ike Young promises to keep Jess safe for as long as it takes, which would be perfect if his close, personal, round-the-clock protection didn’t make it so hard to hide just how much she wants him—and always has.

Ike Young loved and lost a woman in trouble once before. The last thing he needs is alone time with the sexiest and feistiest woman he’s ever known, one he’s purposely kept at a distance for years. Now, Ike’s not sure he can keep his hands or his heart to himself—or that he even wants to anymore. And that means he has to do whatever it takes to hold on to Jess forever.

My Review:

Hard As Steel is the newest work from author Laura Kaye and is part of the 1,001 Dark Nights 2015 line-up as well as a cross-over of Ms. Kaye’s Hard Ink Series and her Raven Riders Series. I am a huge fan of Ms. Kaye’s and when I tell you I devoured this story, that would be a gross understatement. I couldn’t put it down! It was phenomenal. Filled with suspense and scorching heat, it was just amazing.

The attraction between Jessica and Ike was two things: mutual and hidden. Neither one wanted to admit to the other that they had this secret yearning but now that they were stuck together in very close quarters, shut off from the rest of the world, deep down they both knew it would only be a matter of time before the need took over. The reasons both of them felt unworthy of the other were different but also very much the same: fear. Fear for their safety. Fear of unworthiness. But fate and emotion would help with Ike and Jessica overcome the fear and when it did? It was a thing of burning hot beauty.

I loved every thing about this book. I loved the plot, the suspense, the building emotion, the attraction between these two headstrong and vulnerable characters…all of it. Ms. Kaye does such a beautiful job with building the entire situation and sexual tension between Ike and Jess and it connected me to both of them on such a delicious level. I wanted nothing more than for these two broken souls to get together and trust in one another. Separately, Jess and Ike are wonderful characters. She is feisty and quirky and had me laughing out loud so many times. I loved that she lives her life on her own terms and she’s such a breath of fresh air in the world of book heroines. Ike is just as amazing with his gruff exterior and hidden big heart. I loved that he lets Jess be who she is and appreciates it with an adoration that had me swooning. Together these two are off the charts smoking hot. Hands down, this is one of the hottest books from author Kaye and I loved every smoking hot second of it!

This is a story you won’t want to miss. I cannot wait to see what’s in store for this series and will be anxiously waiting for more!

EXCERPT

My gun began to feel heavy in my hands. I needed to use it, and soon.

Light was seeping in underneath the door, so I pushed my goggles up on my head and slowly pushed it open.

The kitchen was empty, and the only light came from above the stove. The fridge hummed and the house was silent except for muffled laughter coming from down the hall.

A terrible scream splintered the room.

A man’s scream.

Had the ambush already begun?

I exchanged a worried glance with Diego as we heard doors further down the hall being flung open. Footsteps.

People ran past the kitchen, heading up the stairs toward the scream, not bothering to look our way.

All of them except for Juanito, that was.

He stopped dead in his tracks at the archway, staring at us like we were ghosts. I couldn’t help but grin.

He snapped out of it, reaching for his gun, but mine was already aimed at him. I shot him in the kneecaps, both of them, just as his gun fired, bullets cracking the ceiling.

Then, as if on cue, all of the outside erupted in gunfire. The sound shook the walls, and through the rattling windows bursts of light filled the sky. My army was here.

I ran over to Juanito who was screaming in pain, and picked him up by the collar, shaking him.

“All right you little fuckface,” I sneered at him, trying to fight the urge to strangle the fucking life out of him. “Tell me where Esteban is and I’ll make your death painless. Don’t tell me and I’ll break your bones with a hammer. Which one is it?”

His screaming wouldn’t stop. I shook him again. “You can’t protect him now. You’ll never fucking walk again and he sure as hell won’t give two fucks about a pathetic piece of garbage like you. So talk.”

But before he could, Diego was calling out my name. I let go of Juanito, rolling over him just in time as the air above me burned with bullets. Diego fired back at the assailants, and I kept rolling until I was behind the kitchen island. I quickly reached for the grenade which I knew could take out enough of them without damaging the structural integrity of the house, and tossed it out of the kitchen. It rolled down the hallway.

They yelled at each other to move but it was too late. I pressed my hands over my ears as the blast went off.

“Jesus, Javi,” Diego swore as pieces of plaster rained down on him. “You haven’t even moved back in yet.”

I didn’t care if it was sloppier than my usual methods — it was efficient. I scrambled to my feet and stared at the wreckage. There was a ragged hole in the wall, smoke and flames licking the edge.

I shrugged. “I wanted to open up that room anyway.”

Miraculously, or something of that nature, Juanito was still alive, holding on to his bleeding and blasted knees as he writhed on the floor.

He was missing half his face though, so it wasn’t like he escaped the explosion unscathed. He was very scathed and crawling for freedom.

I covered my nose and mouth with the crook of my elbow and walked into the smoke, letting it wash over me. Juanito looked up at me with what was left of him, begging for mercy with an outstretched hand.

I stepped on his hand instead, crunching the bones beneath my boot.

“That was for my sister,” I seethed. “I know you intercepted her call when she was calling me for help.”

“Javier, we have to go,” Diego said, coughing and coming over to stop me. A war was raging around me, but none of it mattered. All that mattered was an eye for an eye.

This time I stomped on Juanito’s arm, driving it in with all my might, like I was squashing a cockroach, until I felt it break beneath me.

He screamed.

I smiled.

But I was the furthest thing from happy.

And Juanito couldn’t even speak at this point. His mouth was a flap of burning skin, covering a gaping hole. He was useless.

I slid the hunter’s knife out of its sheath, and with one swift motion, stabbed it downward into the top of his skull.

The screaming stopped.

For Luisa Chavez, a twenty-three year old former beauty queen, a better life has always been just out of her reach. Sure, she’s had men at her feet since she was a young teenager but she’s never had the one thing she’s craved – security. Having grown up in near poverty, her waitressing job in Cabo San Lucas can barely let her take care of herself, let alone her ailing parents. Every day is another unwanted advance, every day is a struggle to survive.
When Salvador Reyes, the depraved leader of a major Mexican cartel, takes an interest in her, Luisa is presented with an opportunity she can’t afford to pass up. She’ll become Salvador’s wife and exchange her freedom and body for a life of riches – riches she can bestow upon her deserving parents. But Luisa quickly finds out that even the finest wines and jewels can’t undo the ugliness in her marriage, nor the never-ending violence that threatens her every move.
Soon, Luisa is looking for an escape, a way out of the carefully controlled life she’s leading. She finally gets her wish in the worst way possible.
As it is, being the wife of Salvador makes her an ideal target for rival cartels and there’s one particular man who needs Luisa as part of his cartel’s expansion. One particular man whose quest for power has destroyed lives, slit throats and gotten him out of an American prison. One particular man who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.
That man is Javier Bernal. And he wants Luisa. He wants to take her, keep her, ruin her.
Unless she ruins him first.
Some men were born to create empires, some women were meant to be queen.

Lone Rider by B.J. Daniels…Blog Tour Stop & Review

LONE RIDER
by B.J. Daniels

Synopsis:

A cowgirl at heart, Bo Hamilton does her best thinking in wide-open spaces. So when money goes missing from the family foundation, Bo rides into the Crazy Mountains to figure things out. But a killer hiding among the sawtooth ridges takes her captive and isn’t planning on ever letting her go.

Bo’s disappearance gets folks thinking she’s the guilty one who’s run off with the money, but Jace Calder would bet his ranch that she’s innocent. Not that he has any reason to trust the beautiful, spoiled senator’s daughter. Still, Jace is going after Bo and bringing her home to face the truth. But in the wild, rugged Crazy Mountains, he finds Bo at the mercy of a suspected murderer. Jace is her only hope, and he’s about to find out what they’re both made of.

My review:

Lone Rider is book two in author B.J. Daniels’ Montana Hamilton’s Series and after moving the first in the series, I was so anxious to read this book. Well, from start to finish is was an action packed thrill ride I won’t soon forget!

This installment follows a few story lines. Bo Hamilton’s horrid tale of dealing with a potential thief in her non-profit organization and sudden abduction while spending time in the monotonous near her home which leads to her former fiancée, Jace, coming to find her is the main story. We also have the continued tale of Bo’s mother having resurfaced after her apparent death 22 years earlier and having amnesia, forgetting the last 22 years. Also, there is the continued drama with Bo’s presidential candidate father and (I have a feeling EVIL) stepmother. There are two other smaller story lines that, I believe, set us up for more to come from this amazing series.

Now, you’re probably thinking this seems like a whole lot crammed into one book but I can assure you, it was phenomenal. I loved every aspect of this book and have grown so attached to Bo and her family at this point. I was so worried for her being held in those mountains with such an insane and unstable person. I was white knuckled reading my e-reader! Luckily, Jace is one hell of a hero and, without giving too much away, holds up his end of the bargain to go find Bo and bring her home. I also have some MAJOR suspicions with the (evil) stepmom and have a feeling she’s involved in a whole lot of the nefarious deeds happening in this series. I can’t WAIT to see what happens next!

I think I should mention that while this book could be read as a stand-alone, I think you would probably gain more from reading the first in the series before diving into this one. I mean, it’s only one book! And that was also an amazing read by the way (yes, I did stalk poor B.J. on twitter while reading that one with continued updates….I couldn’t help myself!)

And I MUST give a mention to the very last scene in this book. Jace really earns some MAJOR romance points for that one! Totally movie worthy if you ask me.

All in all, this was a great romantic suspense and this will be a series I continue to look forward to. Thank you, Ms. Daniels, for another amazing read!

Exposing The Heiress by Jennifer Apodaca…..Book Tour Stop & Review

Exposing-the-Heiress

Exposing-the-Heiress1

Synopsis:

This Marine will protect her at all costs…

She quickly breaks the engagement, only to be blackmailed by her nowex-fiancé, who threatens both Alyssa and the son she gave up for adoption. With nowhere to go, she turns to the one man she can trust.
Former Marine sniper Hunter Reece’s lethal skills could save Alyssa’s life. But his little sister’s best friend has turned into a woman, who is an irresistible mix of secrets and sexiness. And while Hunter can trust himself to protect her, he can’t trust himself to keep his attraction hidden…or even pretend to be the man that Alyssa remembers.
Because the only way to keep the lovely heiress safe is to become the one thing he knows she could never love…a killer.

My review:

Exposing the Heiress is book number three in author Jennifer Apodaca’s Once A Marine series. When I stared this book I had no idea it was part of a series and now that I’ve finished it, I will certainly be reading the others in the series. I loved this book!

I love friends to lovers stories, romantic suspense, and stories with a damaged hero. This fell into all of those categories and was packed with heat, emotion, and tons of suspense. Two childhood friends who went in very different directions end up together in a suspenseful situation and soon realize the attraction they both felt, but thought to have been one-sided, was in fact very much a mutual one.

The wealthy and successful Alyssa is being stalked by her now ex-fiancee and is some serious danger. The damaged and multifaceted ex-Marine sniper Hunter is her savior. Together they are positively delicious. Hunter is strong, determined, broken from the war and is clawing his way back to normal. I loved everything about him. He has a soft side we get to see about halfway in and I adored it. He is also very intense and dirty talks like a champ. Total yum! Alyssa is also strong and a tough cookie when it comes to dealing with the man threatening her very existence. The suspense aspect of this book had me on the edge of my seat and I was so worried for these two amazing characters!

Overall this book has it all and I highly recommend! And as soon as I finish typing this, I will be heading over to buy the other two in the series. Thank you, Ms. Apodaca, for a wonderful read!

I’m Devin Hill.

Tested as a genius at age seven, I hide my emotions, become what they expect…bury my secrets. At nineteen, I trudge toward a predestined path, blinders on, heart safeguarded.

Until I dare to be wild.

Until Alec Marquez crashes into my world.

Until all that follows redefines everything I’ve ever known.

What happens when you stumble into a world of spies…and discover you belong there?

My Review:

The Espionage Effect is the newest work from the dynamic writing duo of Kat Bastion and Stone Basti0n and took me on one hell of a suspenseful and sexy ride. I loved it!

Ok…now I can’t give too much away in this review because this is a journey you really need to experience as you read. And I will envy all of you for being able to experience those twists and turns for the first time!

Devin Hill is a bona-fide genius. Her parents are as well. They all used to be happy until a traumatizing event happened when she was a child. Now, Devin has built walls up that no one is capable of breaking down. She has learned to take care of herself in any type of situation and can handle just about anything thrown her way. But the one thing she really needs is to just let go for, even if for a few days. Which leads her, and her best friend, to a tropical beach with visions of cocktails and beach reading on the horizon. That all changes when the handsome and mysterious Alec Marquez literally crashes into her world. Everything changes from that very moment and what seemed to be a relaxing vacation turns into a mission to save lives….including their own.

Oh my, this book was amazing! Equal parts sexy and suspenseful there was mystery and tons of smoldering heat. I adore Kat and Stone’s writing and by far this is my favorite book of theirs yet. I was nervous for Devin and her getting hurt, both emotionally and physically, and I wasn’t sure who she should be trusting. I wanted her to trust Alec but I just wasn’t sold. He is sexy and mysterious and kept me guessing and I loved it. The plot of this story was phenomenal. It was well thought out and complex but not overly done. The shocking twists that happened at the end knocked my socks off!

If you’re looking for a fresh, exciting, sexy, and suspense filled read with two dynamic characters, this is the book for you! Thank you Kat and Stone for one hell of a read! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next.

Running Fire by Lindsay McKenna….Blog Tour Stop & Review

Synopsis:

He was a haven in the midst of Hell…

Temporarily assigned to the Shadow Squadron in a troubled region of Afghanistan, Chief Warrant Officer and pilot Leah Mackenzie is no stranger to conflict—even if most of her physical and emotional scars are courtesy of her vicious ex. Still, she’s got a bad feeling about picking up a team of stranded SEALs. A feeling that’s all too justified once enemy fire hits their helicopter and all hell breaks loose…

SEAL Kell Ballard’s goal was to get the injured pilot out of harm’s way and find shelter deep in the labyrinth of caves. It’s a place of dark intimacy, where Leah finds unexpected safety in a man’s arms. Where prohibited attraction burns brightly. And where they’ll hide until the time comes to face the enemy outside…and the enemy within their ranks.

My Review:

Running Fire is the eight book in author Lindsay McKenna’s Shadow Warriors series and admittedly the first of her work I have read. Filled with suspense, emotion, and plenty of heat, this book has introduced me to an author I will surely be reading more of.

Chief Warrant Officer and pilot Leah Mackenzie finds herself in the capable and healing hands of Navy SEAL Kell Ballard when her helicopter is shot down while on an extraction mission and he rescues her from the wreckage. Now she and Kell have no choice but to hunker down and wait until the threat of the Taliban has moved on from their location and until it’s safe to get the injured Leah back to base. All of the close shared proximity leads to attraction and the surfacing of buried feelings when there isn’t too much else to do but talk.

But officers and the enlisted aren’t allowed to have any sort of relationship and with a past as damaged as Leah’s, it could never work between them….or could it?

I really enjoyed this story. Leah had a rough childhood, with most issues stemming from a military father she had looked for approval and love from but hadn’t received. A father who emotionally was just plain unavailable. Add those issues to a horrible marriage to an abusive jerk, and you could say that she didn’t have the best idea of what love was. Of course, that is polar opposite from Kell who was raised out on a farm in a big, loving family. It would turn out that Kell was exactly what Leah needed at exactly the right time. Kell is so wonderful, taking care of Leah not just physically but emotionally as well. He’s got a huge heart and a soft demeanor which is so at odds with what being a SEAL entails. I loved that about him. He was so amazing with Leah and didn’t just help her heal from her physical wounds but would help her heal from her abusive past. Leah is strong but is really struggling with trying to move on. I really felt for her when she divulges just how awful her marriage was and just how wretched the abuse she endured at the hands of her ex was. I would have reached through my e-reader and strangled him if I could have.

Luckily love wins out over hate and even with one hell of a nail-biting ending that had me a nervous wreck, I was so happy for how Kell and Leah’s story turned out.

Thank you, Lindsay, for a wonderful read and for giving me another author to look forward to reading more from!

About the author:

unnamed-11I’ve lived six lives in one and it all shows up in the books I write, one way or another.

I was always a risk taker and broke mustangs at thirteen years old in Oregon. I learn to break them with love, not threat or pain.

At 17 years old, I picked night-crawlers (worms) out in our Oregon orchards from 9pm to midnight, every night. I earned enough money to buy my school clothes and book. I also plunked down $600 to a flight company at the Medford, Oregon airport and asked them to teach me…a girl…to fly. I soloed in 12 hours, which is average. From that time until I left for the US Navy at 18, I had accrued 39 hours of flight time in my Cessna 150 single engine airplane.

I was in the US military and was an AG3 (weather forecaster). There was no airplane club, so I couldn’t fly when I was in the Navy. But I could look at the clouds in the sky ;-).

Later, I flew in a B-52 bomber for a day and night mission (18 hours total), a T-38 Talon jet, USAF, where I was riding in a “chase plane” on a test flight in a Dragonfly jet.

I was one of the first AFLA (American Fencing League of America) women fencers to fence with epee and sabre. These weapons were closed to women because they were too ‘heavy’ for a female to handle. I said baloney and fought the males and won half my bouts. I was part of a surge of women fencers on the East Coast in the 1970’s to push for equality in the sport. Together, we changed the sport and changed the mind of the men. Today? In the Olympics? Women now fence in foil, epee and sabre, thanks to what we did as a vanguard showing the world it could be done.

I then became a volunteer firefighter when I was a civilian once more, the first woman in an all – male fire department in West Point, Ohio for three years. I became a local expert not only in firefighting, driving the engine and tanker trunks, but also had training in hazardous material (Reynoldsburg Fire Academy, Columbus, OH).

My books always reflect what I experienced. If you like edgy, gritty, deeply and emotionally intense love stories with sympathetic heroes and heroines, check out my newest series that will be available mid-Oct. 2015, and it incorporates much of what I have lived.

ARC Review…Spotless by Camilla Monk

Spotless releases today, 5/12

25060158

Synopsis:

Island Chaptal—nerdy IT engineer by day, romance novel junkie by night—just walked into her messy New York apartment to find Mr. Right waiting for her. No, wait…Mr. Clean.

A gentleman professional killer with a bad case of OCD and zero tolerance for unsorted laundry, March isn’t there to kill her…yet. He wants the diamond her late mother stole for a sinister criminal organization. Island agrees to help him find it, facing the kind of adversaries who dismember first and ask questions later. Good thing she’s got March to show her the ropes. And the guns. And the knives.

The buttoned-up Island is soon having a blast racing from Paris to Tokyo following the clues in her mother’s will, and for the first time, she’s ready to get close to someone. But falling for a hit man may be the very definition of loving dangerously.…

My Review:

Spotless is the debut work from author Camilla Monk and kicks off this series with a quirky and suspense fantastic start!

Island Chaptal’s world has just been turned upside down. Her life is being threatened by a dangerous stranger now standing in her living room.  He’s also just informed her that her mother was not at all who she thought she was and that Island was supposedly the keeper of quite a large treasure that her mother had apparently left with her. Of course, she had no idea what this man was talking about and his murderous threats weren’t bringing up any repressed memories of a mysterious priceless treasure. His murderous threats also didn’t stop her from wondering why this killer was cleaning up her apartment as he ransacked it or why she was weirdly curious about him. He didn’t seem like he would actually kill her which only added to the mystery at hand. This mystery wouldn’t be over any time soon and before she realizes it, Island is in the middle of a bad guy vs. worse guy in a mission to not only find one of the largest diamonds in the world, but to also stay alive.

Island and her anally organized hit-man, March, head off on a trip across the globe in search on answers and treasure all while fighting off attempts on their lives and growing more and more attracted to each other with every hour they spend together. Talk about one hell of a mixed up mess…will they get out of it alive?

I was intrigued by this story from the synopsis and while the plot was just as great as the synopsis promised, I was pleasantly surprised at just how I much I adored the two main characters, Island and March. Island is one of the quirkiest, funniest, and totally endearing gals I’ve read. She had me laughing at how she was processing all of the craziness that just dropped into her lap. She reminds me a bit of Kathleen Turner’s character, Joan Wilder, in Romancing The Stone…a bit of a buttoned up homebody dropped into an insane adventure. She’s honest and doesn’t have much of a filter which leads to some pretty funny dialog between her and her hit-man. Speaking of March, he is just as quirky with a bad case of OCD and a soft spot for Island. The banter between the two as they go off in search of this huge diamond is just fantastic. Their attraction was bound to happen and I liked March so much by the end that of course I was willing to overlook the fact that the had killed people in his past. Then, after learning of his childhood and how he ended up in the murder-for-hire field, I was a goner and loved him even more.

Now, I won’t give anything away in regards to finding the diamond or falling head over heels for one another but I will say that the ending of this book has me DYING for the next installment in this series.

Humor, suspense, emotions, and a dash of heat, Spotless has it all. Thank you, Camilla, for an amazing read!

Manhunt by Tyler Anne Snell….ARC Review

24753060

Synopsis:

An innocent beauty looking for answers turns to a detective looking for vengeance

One day. One town. Three missing women. Things like this didn’t happen in Culpepper. Except that they had—once before. Eleven years ago, young Braydon Thatcher was unable to stop a tragic murder, one that hit painfully close to home. Now a detective, Braydon can’t help but notice the eerie similarities between the two crimes. But he has to focus on the present and keep distractions to a minimum. Distractions like Sophia Hardwick, who crashes into town like a Florida thunderstorm, demanding to know where her missing sister is. The attraction between them is nearly his undoing. But he has to protect her, because it’s clear someone is resurrecting ghosts in order to punish Braydon. And if he lets his emotions for Sophia get the best of him, she could become yet another victim…

My review:

Manhunt is the debut work from author Tyler Anne Snell and was a thrilling and suspenseful freshman novel. A true who-done-it leading up to a twist at the ending, I was on the edge of my seat from the very first page.

Detective Braydon Thatcher and Sophia Hardwick are thrown together by the worst of circumstances…the disappearance of three local women, one of which was Sophia’s sister, Lisa. It’s that disappearance that leads Sophia into Braydon’s town and into his life where they will form a bond while working to get to the bottom of this mystery and hopefully find these women alive. Braydon never expected that his past would play a part in this investigation and when he realizes who is responsible for these kidnappings, and murder, it may be too late…not just for the three missing women, but for Sophia as well.

Wow, this book really kept me in a white-knuckled grip on my e-reader! From the very beginning, we are thrown into the investigation and mystery surrounding these women and detective. I loved the immediate relationship Sophia and Braydon form when she marches into his office and demands not just answers, but that she will be along for the ride as he finds those answers. Braydon is a determined and focused man who also knows not to make Sophia any more riled up than she already was. Smart man, that detective! Sophia is a total spitfire who refuses to sit back like a wall flower. I really enjoyed her personality and determination to find her sister, no matter what the cost. Now, as for the actual crime, I thought it was really well done with a background that makes this mystery even more diabolical and nerve-wracking. Even though I had an idea as to who was responsible, there was a twist at the end that totally threw me for a loop and I love that in a story!

Overall, if you like a good mystery with a dash of romance, this should be on your to-read list. Thank you, Tyler, for one heck of a thrilling read!
