Road to Nowhere by M. Robinson….Cover Reveal

COVER REVEAL
FROM USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR M. ROBINSON
RELEASE DATE: November 8th
Cover Model: Marshall Perrin
Cover Design by: The Final Wrap
I once read that every
warrior hoped an honorable death would find him. I always went looking for
mine, but not even the Reaper wanted me.
I was trained to kill. I was
trained to not ask why. To take orders and just march in line. Hooah
motherfucker.
Life or death.
Ride or die.
And I’m not only talking
about the military. I’m talking about the life that led me on the road to
nowhere.
My life.
I fought for my brothers.
I fought for my family.
I fought for my country.
And I fought for her…
Never realizing I might die
for them too.
I sat under a tree in an open field, waiting for the twelve
o’clock train to pass through town. Another habit I formed growing up. I loved
nothing more than trucking through the woods on my dirt bike near the tracks.  Finding myself in the middle of nowhere, relishing
the freedom.
Waiting…
Thinking…
Contemplating…
The past. The present. The future.
Then. Now. Forever.
My fucking life.
Wishing I could get on the next train and never look back.
But it was just that. A wish. A glimmer of hope outside of the bullshit called
my life. Nothing had changed since the last time I fucking lived in this goddamn
town. No welcome home party from family or friends, no thanks or parades from
the town residents for serving our country.
Nothing.
Everything I had done, I had done it for him. If I didn’t
have my baby brother, Noah, to look after, I would have never come back here. I
thought I was done with this place, I left my past behind and everything that
came along with being a Jameson. Then life reared its ugly head and snapped me
back to my reality. In the end it never mattered, I would always be on the
wrong side of the tracks and they would always lead me to the wrong station. Changing
my people, places, and things throughout the years didn’t help change the
outcome of the choices I’d made. Of the things I’d done.
I fought for my goddamn brothers.
I fought for my goddamn country.
Never realizing…
I might fucking die for them too.

honor-cover

Don’t be fooled.

Don’t make excuses for me.

I am not a good man.

I’ve seen things no one should, done things no one should talk about. Honor and conscience have no place in my life. But I’ve fought and I’ve survived. I’ve had to.

The first time I saw her dancing on that seedy stage in that second rate club, I felt my heart pulse for the first time. Keelyn Foster was too young, too vibrant for this place, and I knew in an instant that I would make her mine. But first I had to climb my way to the top. I had to have something more to offer her.

I’m here now, money is no object and I have no equal. Except for her. She’s disappeared. But don’t worry, I will find her and claim her. She will be mine.

Like I said, don’t be fooled. I am not the devil in disguise… I’m the one standing front and center.

Jay’s down it again!!  I’ve been dying for Nassir’s book and it’s more than I expected!!

We’ve heard so much about Nassir in Jay’s previous but never really got to know him.  He’s quite the enigma and now we get to know more about him.  We get to see where he came from and how see how his past has shaped him into this man he is today.  Don’t get me wrong – he’s ruthless and cares for no one.  He won’t think twice about any decision.  Except when it comes to Keelyn.

Some bad things happened to Keelyn in the Point and she took off.  I loved watching her show off her strong independence to Nassir.  She’s not someone who can be controlled.  And it’s because of her personality that she is able to handle someone like Nassir.  She is his equal in many ways but they also complete one another.  They see each other for whom they really are.

I can’t explain to you how much I loved reading about these two.  It’s extremely intense, steamy and romantically suspenseful.  The chemistry between them is undeniable and so hot.  Nassir may come across as the bad boy but when it comes to Keelyn, he’s swoon worthy guy chasing after what he wants.

This book will keep you at the edge of your seat and having you pleading for more by the end.  And I have no doubt we will be seeing more of other characters in future books.

KEELYN

Maybe if I hadn’t spent the last six months slinging pancakes and greasy hash to hungover hipsters and avoiding the too-curious eyes of the cops who like to hit up the diner for early-morning breakfast, I would have noticed the ominous shift in the air.

Before I came to Denver six months ago, my senses had been honed to pick up on the slightest threat. Before, anything that might be dangerous, that might put me in peril, had made my skin tingle, made everything inside of me vibrate with awareness. Now I had settled into a simple, dreary rhythm. Every day was the same as the one before it and there was no outside threat constantly hounding me, hunting me, haunting me. I let my guard down. I had gone soft, and as a result the biggest danger of them all managed to slip into my new normal without giving any kind of hint he was there.

My nonslip shoe—that were probably the ugliest things ever made but absolutely necessary considering the greasy food the tiny kitchen pumped out—squeaked on the laminate floor as I made my way over to the lone patron who had taken the last available seat in my section. The massive plastic menu completely covered his face, but the Rolex on his wrist and the perfect cut of his suit jacket let me know he wasn’t my typical kind of customer. There wasn’t a flannel shirt or police blues in sight, and as I got closer, a whiff of something exotic and familiar engulfed my senses and stopped me in my tracks. Of all the things I had left behind, he was the one I had tried hardest to forget.

The tingling across my skin spread. My tummy tightened. Blood rushed loudly between my ears. My shaking fingers curled around the pen in my hand like a weapon. Before I could pull it together and walk away, the menu lowered and I was pinned to the spot, immobilized by eyes the color of spice rum.

They were wicked eyes. Eyes that saw far too much and gave nothing away. Eyes I daydreamed about. Eyes that caused me to wake up in a cold sweat. Eyes that turned me inside out and shook me up as they made a slow perusal from the top of my head to the tips of my god-awful shoes, returning to my face and staying there as I struggled to keep my shit together.

He slowly put the menu down on the cracked tabletop and leaned back in the booth. He was strikingly out of place here and I absolutely hated how that sexy twist of his mouth, a mouth that I dreamed about almost every night, made my traitorous heart flutter and my pulse kick.

I was also strikingly out of place here, but I’d learned to fake it. He, obviously, never bothered to fake anything. He wasn’t a man with virtuous intentions and he never pretended to be.

Gone were the mile-high stilettos that I always wore. In their place I now donned work shoes that prevented me from falling on my ass as I ran food and dirty dishes to and from the kitchen. I was hiding in plain sight, knowing that the last place on earth anyone who might come looking for me would check out would be this greasy spoon. This was the opposite of me and the life I had always lived, so even though I could afford better, craved more, this was where I needed to be…until he showed up.

From USA Today bestselling author Jillian Dodd comes the second book in a sizzling series filled with action and adventure. Fans of The Selection and The Hunger Games will discover a heart-pounding thrill ride of espionage and suspense set in glittering high society.

The world’s most deadly assassin, a man known only as The Priest, has come back from the dead to take a series of high profile hits. When the assassin completes his first task—shooting an important world leader, the global community goes into collective shock and his government vows retaliation.

With her cover firmly cemented as Huntley Von Allister, Spy Girl’s vacation on the Royal Yacht is cut short when she’s called home for her next mission—and, this time, it’s personal.

Can Huntley accomplish her mission before the next hit takes place?

And what will happen when she finally comes face-to-face with the man who killed her mother?

Excerpt

“No, Huntley, I did not.” He sighs. “Even though I was upset to learn the truth about you, I’m certainly not over you. And I could never offer you up to another man.”

A quick glance over the railing confirms that Daniel is still training in the pool a deck below. Knowing I won’t be overheard, I say, “I’m sorry, Lorenzo. If I weren’t who I am, if I didn’t have to do this—”

“Things would be different,” he says, finishing my sentence. “I know. I’m a King and you’re—you. It would never work.”

“Right.”

“But what if it could?” he asks.

“The only way it could is if one of us were willing to quit.”

“I can’t quit my country.”

“So you want me to quit?”

“I’m not sure. I have so many unanswered questions.”

“What were you told about me?”

“Very little. The man who called simply stated that your training and cover had taken years to put into place. He then requested I not tell a soul, for your personal safety.”

“Lorenzo, it’s one thing to know what I do. It’s another thing to have witnessed it.”

“While I will admit your talents are slightly unusual, it doesn’t make them any less spectacular.”

“You saw me kill people. I’m good at it.”

“And thank goodness that you are, or I’d be dead.”

“And I’m a liar.”

“I watched you work the crowd to perfection at both the Queen’s Garden Party and Her Majesty’s Royal Ball. Where I come from, we call that being diplomatic.”

I laugh out loud. “You almost make me feel like a normal girl.”

“Will you tell me how you ended up in this profession at such a young age?”

“Can I be honest with you?”

“Of course.”

“I’m not doing this for my country.”

“Good, then it will be easier to convince you to live in mine.”

It’s crazy how fast the buzz comes back after you’ve been sober for so long.Whiskey stood there, on my doorstep, just like he had one year before. Except this time, there was no rain, no anger, no wedding invitation — it was just us.

It was just him — the old friend, the easy smile, the twisted solace wrapped in a glittering bottle.

It was just me — the alcoholic, pretending like I didn’t want to taste him, realizing too quickly that months of being clean didn’t make me crave him any less.

But we can’t start here.

No, to tell this story right, we need to go back.

Back to the beginning.

Back to the very first drop.

This is my love letter to Whiskey. I only hope he reads it.

Excerpt

The first time I tasted Whiskey, I fell flat on my face.

Literally.

I was drunk from the very first sip, and I guess that should have been my sign to stay away.

Jenna and I were running the trail around the lake near her house, sweat dripping into our eyes from the intense South Florida heat. It was early September, but in South Florida, it might as well have been July. There was no “boots and scarves” season, unless you counted the approximately six weeks in January and February where the temperature dropped below eighty degrees.

As it was, we were battling ninety-plus degrees, me trying to be a show off and prove I could keep up with Jenna’s cheerleading training program. She had finally made the varsity squad, and with that privilege came ridiculous standards she had to uphold. I hated running — absolutely loathed it. I would much rather have been on my surf board that day. But fortunately for Jenna, she had a competitive best friend who never turned down a challenge. So when she asked me to train with her, I’d agreed eagerly, even knowing I’d have screaming ribs and calves by the end of the day.

I saw him first.

I was just a few steps ahead of Jenna, and I’d been staring down at my hot pink sneakers as they hit the concrete. When I looked up, he was about fifty feet away, and even from that distance I could tell I was in trouble. He seemed sort of average at first — brown hair, lean build, soaked white running shirt — but the closer he got, the more I realized just how edible he was. I noticed the shift in the muscles of his legs as he ran, the way his hair bounced slightly, how he pressed his lips together in concentration as he neared us.

I looked over my shoulder, attempting to waggle my eyebrows at Jenna and give her the secret best friend code for “hot guy up ahead”, but she had stopped to tie her shoes. And when I turned back around, it was too late.

I smacked into him — hard — and fell to the pavement, rolling a bit to soften the fall. He cursed and I groaned, more from embarrassment than pain. I wish I could say I gracefully picked myself up, smiled radiantly, and asked him for his number, but the truth is I lost the ability to do anything the minute I looked up at him.

It was an unfamiliar, warm ache that spread through my chest as I used my hand to shield the sun streaming in behind his silhouette, just how you’d expect the first sip of whiskey to feel. He was bent over, hand outstretched, saying something that wasn’t registering because I had somehow managed to slip my hand into his and just that one touch had set my skin on fire.

Handsome wasn’t the right word to describe him, but it was all I kept thinking as I traced his features. His hair was a sort of mocha color, damp at the roots, falling onto his forehead just slightly. His eyes were wide — almost too round — and a mixture of gold, green, and the deepest brown. I didn’t coin the nickname Whiskey until much later, but it was that moment that I saw it for the first time — those were whiskey eyes. The kind of eyes you get lost in. The kind that drink you in. He had the longest lashes and a firm, square jaw. It was so hard, the edges so clean that I would have sworn he was angry with me if it weren’t for the smile on his face.He was still talking as my eyes fell over his broad chest before snapping back up to his sideways grin.

“Oh my God, are you fucking blind?!” Jenna’s voice snapped me from my haze as she shoved Whiskey out of the way and latched onto my hand, ripping me back to standing position. I’d barely caught my balance before she whipped around to continue her scolding. “How about you brush that long ass hair out of your eyes and watch where you’re going, huh champ?”

Oh no.

I didn’t even have time to call dibs, I couldn’t even think the word, let alone say it, before it was too late. I watched it, in slow motion, as Whiskey fell for my best friend before I even had the chance to say a single word to him.

Jenna was standing tall, arms crossed, one hip popped in her usual fashion as she waited for him to defend himself. This was her protocol — it was one of the reasons we got along. We were both what you’d call “spitfires”, but Jenna had the distinct advantage of being cripplingly gorgeous on top of having an attitude. She flipped her long, wavy blonde ponytail behind her and cocked a brow.

And then he did, too.

His smile grew wider as he met her eyes, and it was the same look I’d watched fall over guy after countless guy. Jenna was a unicorn, and men were enamored by her. As they should have been — she had platinum blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, legs for days and a personality to boot. Now, before you go thinking that I was the insecure best friend – I had it going on, too. I worked hard, I was talented – just not at the things traditional high school boys valued.

But we’ll get to that.

“Hi,” Whiskey finally said, extending his hand to Jenna this time. His eyes were warm, smile inviting — if I had to pick the right word for him, just one, I’d say charming. He just oozed charm. “I’m Jamie.”

“Well, Jamie, maybe you should make an appointment with the eye doctor before you run over another innocent jogger. And you owe Brecks an apology.” She nodded to me then and I cringed at my name, wondering why she felt the need to spill it at all. She always called me B — everyone did — so why did she choose the moment I was face to face with the first boy to ever make my heart accelerate to use my full name?

Jamie was still grinning, eying Jenna, trying to figure her out, but he turned to me after a moment with that same crooked smile. “I’m sorry, I should have been watching where I was going.” He said the words with conviction, but lifted his brows on that last line because he and I both knew who wasn’t paying attention to the trail, and he wasn’t the guilty party.

“It’s fine,” I murmured, because for some reason I was still having a difficult time finding my voice. Jamie tilted his head just a fraction, his eyes hard on me this time, and I felt naked beneath his gaze. I’d never had anyone look at me that way — completely zeroed in. It was unnerving and exhilarating, too.

But before I could latch onto the feeling, he turned back to Jenna, their eyes meeting as slow smiles spread on both of their faces. I’d seen it a million times, but this was the first time I felt sick watching it happen.

I saw him first, but it didn’t matter.

Because he saw her.

Author note: Loinerd is Cliff’s video game character.

We’ll Be Characters

Loinerd and PlanetClaire flew through the moonlit forest until they could no longer hear the yapping of the wolf-like creatures that had given them chase. The creatures had sprung out of nowhere and landed a few choice blows before Loinerd and Claire had outsmarted them and sped out of their reach. They now found themselves in a dark, secluded corner of the woods.

“Over there,” Claire said, gesturing toward the arched form of a fallen tree. The thick, bent trunk had grown over with vines and formed a sort of shelter. They were able to stand underneath the high point where the tree had cracked. “Turn around,” she ordered.

Loinerd obeyed. Silvery moonlight illuminated his nearly bare back. His vest and shirt hung in tatters, revealing deep claw marks.

“We better hope those aren’t poisoned,” Claire said, reaching into her boot and pulling out a vial. She dabbed the contents onto her fingertips and ran her slender fingers along each of the cuts.

Loinerd flinched. “Let me look at your injuries.”

“Let me finish.”

After she’d applied ointment to the last scratch, Loinerd turned and scanned her figure. The black unitard hugged every lean curve, but large gashes caused the fabric to gape open, exposing raw, pink flesh.

“Give me the vial.” Cliff hoped she hadn’t heard the huskiness in his voice that betrayed his sudden arousal.

Claire handed him the medicine and lifted her hands away from her sides. Cliff held his breath while he reached a virtual hand forward to push up the fabric just beneath her left breast. He stretched the hole so he could assess the extent of the damage. Reaching his other hand forward, he applied the ointment with gentle, circular strokes. During the charged silence between them, Cliff’s mind traveled to all sorts of naughty places.

“Tell the truth,” Claire said, breaking into his thoughts. “Have I ever been your masturbation muse?”

“What?” Cliff was knocked off guard by her bluntness, but his avatar kept stroking.

“Lately, Loinerd’s been the go-to guy in my spank bank.”

Cliff choked on his laugh. When he heard Claire giggle, he moved his character’s ministrations to less temptingly placed wounds. Though who was he kidding—every inch of this woman’s animated body was tantalizing.

“Sorry. I didn’t realize you were so shy. Want me to change the subject?” she asked.

“No. I mean, I…uhm…”

PlanetClaire shot a hand out to hold one side of Loinerd’s face and brought her mouth to his. Cliff clicked his controls to return the kiss and take her in his character’s arms. As he watched the avatars make out, he felt slightly stunned. His in-game sex had only ever been with non-player characters. He’d never before connected with another live human in virtual coitus.

With the two characters intimately engaged, the scene played out in autopilot. Cliff and Claire only had to make quick selections on how to proceed. At any time, either one of them could pull out from the embrace, but neither of them did. PlanetClaire moved deeper into the makeshift shelter. Tree limbs and heavy vines angled downward, providing privacy, though she had to kneel to fit under the natural ceiling. She shrugged out of her low-cut top, revealing a pert pair of breasts with dark brown nubs at their centers. Cliff longed to bite them.

Loinerd lowered to his knees and leaned in, his head swiveling as he played out Cliff’s desires. From the screen, PlanetClaire moaned. Through his headphones, Cliff heard her real-life breathing become heavier. He matched his breaths to her rhythm.

Now that they were engaged in full-on intimacy, the screen showed a montage of the characters’ nude forms from various angles, keeping the video adult-rated but not outright pornographic. Claire’s form was all pinks and peaches and browns. The only black remaining on her was a winged dragon tattoo stretching from shoulder blade to shoulder blade. Loinerd licked down the dragon’s tail trailing along her spine.

While Loinerd and PlanetClaire pumped and thrust and writhed against each other, Claire whispered to Cliff in breathy huffs, “Meet me in San Diego. At the convention. Just for one night.”

Cliff panted back, “What about keeping real life separate from gaming?” As much as the idea appealed to him, he didn’t want to make any stupid agreements in the passion of the moment.

“It won’t be real life…cosplay…with masks. We’ll be characters.”

“Oh, God, Claire,” he groaned, no longer trying to hide what he was doing to himself while he watched their characters copulate. “Let’s do it.”

Excerpt:

“I’m trying to treat you differently.” I shake my head. “That’s not what I mean.”

“What do you mean?” She takes a step closer, the scent of her coconut sunscreen filling my senses.

“Look. I haven’t been in a relationship in a long time. Most of the women I meet either want to be with me because of the whole fireman aspect or they want to be with me because of who my father is.”

“I don’t care about either of those things, at least not when it comes to what I want from you,” she clarifies.

“I know that which is why I’m doing my level best to get to know you before I fuck you. And believe me, I will, just as soon as you—”

She drops the towel. Saylor drops the motherfucking towel and stands there, nothing on her luscious body.

“Whoops.”

My legs propel me forward, my hands go to her shoulders, pulling her to me until her cold skin hits mine. Her nipples scrape my chest, making me hard, making my board shorts so tight that I’ll probably have to rip them off.

She tips up her chin, all at once a siren and seductive. “As soon as I do what?”

I touch her face and she leans into me, rubbing against my hand as her lashes fall to her cheeks. “Say yes.”

Her eyes open. “Yes.”

my-review

I am currently looking around my kitchen and all I see are Trader Joe bags and grocery bags. They have been there in my messy kitchen since yesterday morning, some empty and some still with boxed items in them. Why? Because I started reading Hard to Fall and got sucked in immediately! So Much so that this messy kitchen is the result! I kept reading until I finished once I picked it up and now have bags under my eyes but let me say it was worth it!

I just adored the corky, passionate, and just plan fun relationship of Saylor and Hayden. Saylor, a owner of an animal settler and daughter of a famous actress, meets Hayden, a hot fire fighter and son of a politician, the weekend of their best friends wedding. The results of that weekend make the whole first part of the book steamy, suspenseful and so much fun to read. It is like having a juicy secret and you are one of the few to know. Marquita Valentine writes this book so you feel like you a part of it. I just love it. I mean I read it in one day to see if and how the secret got out!

You will instantly fall in love with Saylor and Hayden as a couple. They are sweet, honest and passionate about each other. Having their own personal issues doesn’t stop these two from falling in love but also brings them closer. Hard to Fall was a refreshing read where the characters stand by each other the entire book and do nothing else but love each other. Marquita Valentine, job well done in continuing the series Take the Fall, and I will never regret my messy kitchen!

Exclusive Excerpt:

Max

“What are you working on?” Max asked.

The drafting chair nearly fell as Zoe jumped a mile high. “You scared the shit out of me. What are you doing skulking around at four in the morning?”

“I wasn’t skulking. I had to go to the bathroom. When I came back, I realized you weren’t in bed.”

“I’m used to living alone,” Zoe said in explanation, shaking her head. “I’ve learned never to ignore the muse. She likes to play hide and go seek sometimes. When she asks to come out to play, I always say yes.”

Halfway between wakefulness and sleep, Max smoothed a hand through her hair and down her back. She was back in the sexy little outfit she’d put on after her shower, but before she’d blown his mind with that massage. Thinking about that massage was certainly waking up certain parts of his body.

“You want to come back to bed?” he asked, all awake now and ready for a second go round.

“Maybe in a little bit,” Zoe said, turning back to the white paper and black ink in front of her. She had a pencil behind one ear. Ink stained most of her fingers. He wondered if she ever got any on the paper. She was scratching the pen across the textured sheet, when he looked close at the drawing. It wasn’t Budapest or Prague or Krakow on the page, but a single level house that looked very much like post World War II suburban Los Angeles.

His eyes snapped to the upper right hand corner. The place where the name of the strip was always placed. But her stylized lettering of Wanderlust was absent. In its place was Canoga Park. It was in pencil, yet to be inked. Max’s eyes wandered across the table. There were three or four Wanderlust strips scattered about that looked halfway completed, pictures drawn, but the words were still in pencil. These Canoga Park strips were nearly done, though.

stirred-rdl-ex-graphic

“Is that the Valley?” he asked.

Zoe jumped again. “You’ve gotta stop doing that. I thought you’d gone back to bed.” Forcefully, she snapped off the klieg bright light that had illuminated the desk. “I’ll come with you this time, make sure you make it.”

Max got into the blanket and duvet laden bed first, then lifted up the covers in blatant invitation. Zoe slipped in, curling toward him. She was quiet so long Max thought she’d fallen asleep. But she shifted her legs, and let out a long sigh.

“What’s that other strip you’re working on?”

“Nothing. Just a throw-away idea.”

“What do you mean, throw-away? Looks like you’ve done some work on it.”

“Not throw-away, exactly. Just something that probably won’t go anywhere. I don’t have a Beetle Bailey or Peanuts. Most strips don’t have that kind of longevity. I certainly don’t think anyone will be hard pressed to continue on Wanderlust after I’m dead. So I have to have some back up plans. It’s not like I’m Mort Walker and have a big family to keep me alive after death.”

“Do you want a family?” Max asked because he very much wanted one when the timing was better.

“I already have a big one. You’ve met every last one of them, I think.”

“I’m asking if you want to get married and have kids.” He was more blatant this time.

“I like to practice,” Zoe said, derailing any further a conversation he really wanted to pursue.

I hate to admit it, but I’m head over heels infatuated with him.

Royally Screwed by Emma Chase….Excerpt & Review Tour

rs-fb-now-ad-3

royally-screwed-for-webEmma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series & Legal Briefs Series, returns with the first of three sizzling standalone books about a family of racy, irresistible Royals.

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka “His Royal Hotness”, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant—hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

***

Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it.

***

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

my-review

Emma Chase is at again with another fantastic start to a great series.  Each book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading them in order since we get a tad of information about each royal from the start.  And it just makes the series even that much more enjoyable

Royally Screwed in Prince Nicolas’ tale and the lovely Olivia from the states.  These two meet at her family’s coffee house and it’s from there that things start to fire up.
Prince Nicholas is the heir to the thrown. He’s done everything that is expected of him and whatever his grandmother, the Queen, hands down to him.  But now she’s asking something of him to save not only the monarchy, but to keep their family as the head of the country. Nicholas is given a deadline to come up his decision on whom to marry.  So he decides to take that time and use it as his last hoorah – His one and only freedom left.
“That explains why his eyes are on your ass like a cat chasing a laser beam.”
Olivia is the oldest child in her family, so she has taken it upon herself to keep the family business going.  And just like every mom and pop business, small businesses struggle to stay afloat in this day and age.  But Olivia’s family has a secret that keeps them afloat – homemade pies.  And it’s these pies that brings the Prince back to her business.
But things are never easy when it comes to a commoner and royalty attempting to have some sort of relationship, even if for a brief time.
“The world is full of cunts, dearie – some are just smellier than others.  Remember that, and they’ll never be able to hurt you.”
I love the interactions between these two.  They instantly click and definitely keep each other their toes with their ribbing.   Olivia makes him feel like a normal person and not the Prince everyone sees.  And he makes her feel like she is more than a commoner.
“She looks into my eyes and I’m lost.  Wrecked. Owned. There’s  no thought, no desire – except to please her.  Make her see stars and touch heaven.”
Emma has painted a beautiful story and quick the interesting set of royals for us to follow.  Along with Olivia and Nicholas, we meet his brother Henry and few other unique characters that add to the hilarity and uniqueness to this series.  I am really looking forward to Henry’s book and see where Emma takes us.

She’s even lovelier than I remembered, than I dreamed. Delicate midnight tendrils frame a face that belongs in a museum—with stunning dark sapphire eyes that should be commemorated in vibrant oils and soft watercolors. If Helen launched a thousand ships, this girl could raise a thousand hard-ons.

She’s prettily made, the top of her head coming only to my chin, but fantastically curvy. Great full tits that strain the buttons of a wrinkled white blouse, shapely hips in a black skirt tapering to a tiny waist I could wrap my hands around and toned legs encased in sheer black tights finish off the whole package very nicely.

An unfamiliar anxiousness fizzes like soda in my gut.

“The door was open,” I explain.

“It’s broken.”

Logan flicks at the lock. Security is his life, so a broken lock would annoy him like a puzzle with the final piece missing.

“What do you want?”

She has no idea who I am. It’s in the defensive way she holds herself and the accusatory note in her voice. Some women try to pretend they don’t recognize me, but I can always tell. Her ignorance is rather…thrilling. There are no expectations, no hidden agendas, no reasons to pretend—what she sees is what she gets. And all she sees is me.

My throat is suddenly a barren wasteland. I swallow, but it’s difficult.

“Well, he’s desperate for some pie.” I hook my thumb at Simon. “And I…wanted to apologize for the other evening. I don’t normally act that way. I was on a bit of bender…”

“In my experience, people don’t do things when they’re drunk that they wouldn’t do normally.”

“No, you’re right. I would’ve thought all those things, but I never would’ve said them out loud.” I move closer, slowly. “And if I’d been sober…my opening bid would’ve been much higher.”

“She crosses her arms. “Are you trying to be cute?”

“No. I don’t have to try…it just sort of happens.”

my-review

What do I say?  What can I say?  HOLY SHIT!!  That was one hell of ride that I truly wasn’t sure how it was going to end.  And I didn’t want it to!!
Away from the Dark is the sequel to Into the Light and you MUST read that first in order to understand anything going on in this book.  And trust me – this is two book series you want to read immediately!!!
This book started where Into the Light ended and we get to find out what happens to Jacob, Sara and The Light.  Cause let me tell you, the cliff hanger you are left with after book one, has you immediately jumping into this book going “OMFG.  HOLY SHIT. I NEED TO KNOW!!”
Just like the first book, this book is told in multiple POV’s and keeps everything moving at a great pace.  There is no lull in suspense or mystery.  If anything, it just adds to your anxiety and digging for more and more clues.  I refuse to say anything else.
Except this:
“Sara loves Jacob.  And Jacob loves Sara.  Please never forget that.”

I love how Aleatha ends this.  Everything that had me wondering was connected but still left things open.  Part of me wants another book – the part of me that needs to know everything.  And another part of me that is completely happy with how things are now.  Either way, I love this series and felt Aleatha wrote one hell of suspenseful and entertaining book.

Sara

Shrill screams echoed throughout our dimly lit bedroom, accelerating my heartbeat and pulling me from the terrible nightmare. I waited for more, until the realization struck. The screams were my own.

“Jacob?” I called, my voice shaking with dread as I reached for my husband. Instead of reassurance, my fingers met cold empty sheets. He was gone—still away at another campus.

What just happened? Was it a dream?

I clung to the covers as I puffed my cheeks and slowly exhaled. While each breath helped to still the chaos, the exercise wasn’t enough.

Who am I? Who is he?

Jacob’s questions from months ago came back. They were my security. They’d worked before.

I am Sara Adams and my husband is Jacob Adams.

Pushing the images from my dream, or nightmare, away, I imagined Jacob’s comforting embrace. Slowly I threw back the down comforter and willed the cool air to soothe my perspiration-drenched skin. From the way my heart galloped in my chest, I might have been running a marathon, not sleeping.

In my sleep I’d been battling to escape a vehicle, and then an explosion of heat.
It had been a dream, I reassured myself—a nightmare. The accident I’d had, nearly nine months before, had been different. I couldn’t remember it, but I’d been told that I’d been injured and gone unconscious. In the nightmare I had been out and away from the wreckage.

I shook my head.

It seemed so real.

In my dream I hadn’t been able to see past the darkness, yet I’d known I wasn’t injured.
My arms surrounded my midsection as the memories replayed like pictures in my mind. Someone was hurting me—purposely harming me, and there was a voice—a deep voice.

Jacob’s voice?

No. He wouldn’t hurt me.

My entire body shuddered as goose bumps peppered my skin. Sitting upright, I reached for the bedside lamp. With trembling fingers I turned the knob and my eyes adjusted as the soft light combined with the sun’s perpetual summer glow.

I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate on Jacob’s questions.

Who am I? Who is he?

This time I said the words aloud, praying that if I spoke the truth, the images would disappear. “I am Sara Adams. He is my husband, Jacob Adams.” I pulled myself from the bed and walked to the bathroom. Turning on the light and the faucet, I cupped the cool water and splashed my face. As I reached for the cup and began to fill it, a metaphoric dam that had been constructed to hold back my past burst.

My mind was flooded—no longer with simple images, but with scene after scene.

For the first time since I could recall, I knew the woman in the mirror.

I knew me.

my-review

OK.  So I totally didn’t see that ending coming at all.  But let me back it up and start from the beginning.

Aleatha has written one hell of book and a great start to this 2 book series.  I took my time reading this book because I wanted to soak it all in.  But I also had to take my time because I would get seriously pissed off at things going on and some of the characters.  I had to walk away before I did some serious damage to my kindle or screamed at someone around me accidentally.

In the Light is told in several POV’s but Aleatha transitions between them all very smoothly and has you feeling for Sara, our heroine.  She’s awoken in a clinic and has no recollection or memory of how she got there or her time before then.  Not only is she healing from an accident, but her eyes are bandaged up and she’s forced to rely on her husband, Jacob for everything.

There are some many intricate layers to this story, I don’t even know what to tell you. And truthfully, I can’t say anything that won’t ruin this book because it’s that damn mysterious and suspenseful.  God I absolutely loved this book.  I loved everything about this book.

We also get insights from Jacob, Sara’s husband and Stella, who’s searching for her missing friend Mindy.  She’s amazing at her and she’s using everything within her power and resources to try and find Mindy and anything that ties to her disappearance.

Let me tell you – Aleatha does a phenomenal job of painting the world of The Light.  She’s so damn good, I absolutely despise The Light.  Hate it.  Loathe it.   We learn the way of The Light as Sara relearns her way through it.  Avoiding corrections from her husband and the Commission.  Learning to never question anything and always be appreciative of being chosen to be a part of the Assembly.  But will her memories ever return?  Will she ever remember her time before her accident?

The story ends in a cliffhanger that I was not expecting at all and has left me speechless.  I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this story.  I will devour that book in heartbeat!
