The soft ding of the elevator stopping on this otherwise quiet floor catches my attention. I practically leap out of my seat, not wanting to be in a position to be talked down to if it is Alexander.

Review

So I am probably one of the few who has not read One to Hold prior to this.  And because I am a huge fan of paranormal, I am actually glad that I didn’t. I had no idea what to expect going into this.  And I absolutely loved every bit of this book.

It started off with some hot and heavy scenes and only pulled me into the story from there.  Melissa is a hybrid, not a complete vampire yet.  Derek is a vampire hunter.  And that is all I am saying about that.

They’re lives become intertwined in ways they never expected.  It’s a suspenseful and erotic story that will keep you glued to the pages.  I can’t say there was a lot of mystery as it was pretty easy to figure out certain things but the way Tia wrote the story, you were still captivated by everything going on.  The storyline was very unique with the paranormal twist.  And the sex scenes were written very well – hot damn!!!

I honestly wish this wasn’t a standalone book.  I would have loved to see this go into a series with each book based on different characters.  But seeing as this book was apparently the same as One to Hold series but with just a paranormal twist, I don’t think it would be a smart move.  I love that Tia did this as a standalone for that very reason – she did a great job tying everything together in one book.

If you love a good paranormal romance with no cliffhangers or continuing stories, you will really enjoy this book.

Derek’s eyes are on my mouth. I’m breathing so fast, I can see my chest rising and falling as he slams my body against the wall. Pinned again, he looks hard into my eyes before claiming me roughly, forcing my lips apart, and finding my tongue.

A little noise squeaks from my throat. I don’t know why he’s treating me so roughly. I grasp his shoulders, following his movements with mine, hearing his heart beating faster like mine. His blood heats in my veins and moisture pools between my legs. Even frightening and angry, I want him so much.

Without speaking, he takes my hand and leads me to the bed. He lifts my wet dress over my head and steps to drop it in the empty tub, pausing a moment to quickly discard his own wet shirt and jeans. I watch him mesmerized as he takes an oversized towel off the ledge and returns to me. He’s gloriously nude, the low light deepening the lines on his chest and stomach, his enormous cock fully erect.

Touching my hair with the towel, he gives it a few squeezes then spreads it on the bed behind me. Anger mixed with desire is in his eyes. He lifts me and pushes me onto my back then grips my thighs, shoving them open. Immediately, he begins to kiss and lick my center.   1. This my first book that I have read by Emma Hart.  And I promise is wasn’t intentional either.  And it won’t be my last.

First off I must say you can definitely read this book as a standalone in the series and not be lost at all.  However, there are previous characters in this book so if you do not want to know how those characters ended up where they are, do not read this.  Otherwise, you are good to go.

I really enjoyed reading about Jessie and Aiden.  These two are obviously from the same area and went to the same school.  And yes, they had their fair share of run-ins, but neither saw the other as anything more than just that – classmates.

The dynamics between these two is amazing.  They are like oil and water yet they both know how to set a spark in the other.  They challenge each other in ways no one else has.  They don’t put up with the other’s bull either.  And they hide nothing – what you see is what you get.  Except the lie they are telling the world…..and themselves.

“I fell in love with my lie.”

I truly loved watching this entire relationship blossom.  The interactions between Jessie and Aiden had me laughing so hard at times.  And seeing them both with their families, it just really made the story so much more real.

Emma really know how to make a story feel very real and true to life.  I enjoyed reading about the other brothers and it makes me want to go back and read their books to see how they got to where they are.

Great series and I am looking forward to reading more of this series and more from this author.

“What are you doing?”
“Getting you into the shower.” At what must’ve been my
skeptical expression, he added, “It’s the fastest way to get you warm.”
“I see,” I murmured.
He made quick work of turning on the water and testing it
with his fingers. When it seemed to his satisfaction, he turned back to me. I
still sat on the toilet, shivering and trembling.
We stared at each other for a moment. Rev jerked a hand
through his hair. “Yeah, uh, I guess I better let you get in now.”
When he started to go, I grabbed his arm. “Wait. I need help
getting out of this dress.”
His eyes flared at my request. It wasn’t a come-on in
disguise. I had needed the help of one of our maids earlier tonight to get it
zipped. Instead of asking me to stand up, Rev bent over my back, bringing his
hands to the zipper. Slowly, he tugged it down.
As the front gaped open, I didn’t bother trying to cover
myself.
Rev’s hands momentarily faltered, and when I looked up, I
met his gaze, which was staring at my bare breasts. I hadn’t needed to wear a
bra because of the tight-fitting bodice. He cleared his throat several times,
then tugged the zipper the rest of the way down.
There was not a doubt in my mind, heart, or body about how
much I wanted him. I knew he expected me to want to take things slow in the sex
department, but that’s not how I felt. Regardless of the ghosts of the past, I
wanted him more than I had ever wanted any man. I wanted him to be the one who
proved to me that sex was physically and emotionally safe. That it could be a
loving act between two consenting people.
But with the roller coaster of feelings rocketing through
me, it was more about an all-consuming lust and desire.
When Rev stepped back from me, I rose to my feet. The dress
slid down my body
and pooled at my feet, leaving me in only my panties. Both
empowerment and vulnerability raced through me.
“Rev, I want you to look at me.” He shook his head and kept
his gaze on the floor. “I said I want you to look at me,” I repeated.
“That’s not what this is about. It’s about you getting warm
before you catch pneumonia,” he countered.

His eyes, which burned with lust and unfilled desire,
snapped to mine. “How can you ever doubt even for a second how I feel about
you?”
I threw my hands up. “Because I’m standing practically naked
before you and you won’t fucking look at me!”
“We’re both teetering at the edge of uncharted territory.
After everything you’ve been through, I would rather die than hurt you.” “You
hurt me more when you won’t look at me or touch me,” I protested.
With an agonized sigh, Rev finally allowed his gaze to rake
down my body. There was no feeling of embarrassment or inadequacy. Just the
look on his face warmed me from head to toe. “You’re so beautiful,” he
murmured.
Tears stung my eyes from his adoration. “I am?” I
questioned.
He smiled. “Every inch of you.”

I was born in Brisbane, Australia. My step-dad was in the Army, which caused us to move around a lot. We finally settled in country Victoria, Australia. I am the youngest of four children and I can say that I was spoilt a bit. I drove my mum crazy when I refused to eat meat at a young age. Now I live with my husband and two children, and I find myself regretting all the troubles I put my parents through because my monsters are just as picky as I was.

I started writing in 2013 and self-published the first of the Hawks MC Club series Holding Out. The next to follow was something different, I wrote Senseless Attraction, a YA novel. Soon I was back to the Hawks series with number two Climbing Out. I have more to write in the series, but there will be also be more novels in the humorous erotica genre, like Left to Chance, which is out now.
