That was the moment Beckham appeared in the doorway like a storm cloud.

“Randi?” I froze, because I knew that voice.

Rome McGuire.

The sound was rough and sexy, with just a hint of a growl. Deeper than it’d been eight years ago, when I’d thrown caution to the wind and hopped on the back of his motorcycle for one glorious night.

Back then, I’d still been a shy little thing, terrified that some hot biker might actually want to talk to me, let alone take me out. When I caught him watching me at the party, I remembered studying the floor, his shirt collar, even the beer in my plastic cup, because I hadn’t known what to do with myself around such raw male glory. Apparently some things never change, because when I turned to face him, I found myself staring at the floor again.

This was a mistake, because his feet were down there. And the battered, black leather boots he wore led to jeans-covered legs. Legs topped by thick, muscular thighs.

Stop it. You’re acting like a giant dork! My brain hissed.

Oblivious and mesmerized, my gaze rose to the faded denim around his fly, and it was all over. My eyes started tracing the folds of the Okanogan Fire and Rescue T-shirt covering his still-muscular chest, although the Reapers Motorcycle Club vest he wore was a change. Back then, he’d been hanging around the Nighthawk Raiders MC. That whole club had disappeared for reasons I’d never fully understood, and the Reapers had taken over the town shortly afterward. Apparently Rome was one of them now.

Interesting…

I’d always wondered what’d happened to Rome after I’d left. We’d never said goodbye. That summer, the wildfires had swept through so fast that my family had to evacuate with the clothes on our backs. We hadn’t bothered to come back and sift through the ashes.

I’d kept in touch with my old boss, Tinker, of course.

I’d even considered asking her about Rome, but in some ways those fires were the best thing that ever happened to me. Starting over meant starting college in Missoula, and then a whole new life.

Wasn’t like Rome and I could’ve ever been anything real, anyway. Guys like him weren’t for girls like me.

My gaze reached his neck, which bristled with thick, black stubble that was more than a little out of control—this was different from when I’d known him before. Not that he’d ever been baby-faced, but he’d definitely matured. Now there were a few wrinkles around those dark blue eyes, although the dimple was still there. So was the crooked smile that’d spontaneously combusted my panties.

Correction.

A crooked smile that was currently combusting my panties. Who knew that a supermarket could be such dangerous territory?

“Been a long time,” he said. I shrugged, unsure what to say. I mean, yeah, we’d gone out on a date. He’d kissed me and wow… Not that we’d gotten much past second base, but he’d scored a home run in the lower deck of my ballpark, if you know what I mean. But he was one of those guys—you know, the kind of guys who hit lots of home runs with lots of girls.

“Yeah, well…” My words trailed off.

I never read anything by Carrie til earlier this year and she is quickly becoming one of my one-click authors for sweet and sexy reads.

When I read the blurb for this one, there was no doubt in my mind that I had to read this one. And Carrie did not let me down.

“Because being with him is the best high I’ve ever known.
Because when he touches me, there is no better feeling in the entire world.
Because I’m the moth and he’s the flame.
And the thing is, I know that he wouldn’t even notice if I burned completely.”

Demi and Paxton had an odd relationship, if you can call it that, in college. She wanted more and he was the stereotypical college football player that didn’t want to be tied down to one girl. Whereas Demi looked at him like he hung the moon and one day she would wear him down.

Years later, they see one another again but Demi has her walls up high and strong. Paxton is now a huge pro football player and she is the CEO of her own company. Demi wants nothing to do with him but he’s determined to prove he’s nothing like the college boy she remembers.

“A person doesn’t forget the dismantling of their heart, ventricle by ventricle.”

Carrie does a really nice job of switching between past and present from both their POVs, giving the readers the best of both worlds. Seeing how Paxton has matured helps Demi understand him more. And seeing how hurt Demi was in the past, makes us understand the walls she has up.

Paxton and Demi’s relationship is a sweet and beautiful story. Nothing is too fast and these two learn a lot about one another. I love that Paxton stops at nothing with Demi – he is dead set on winning her over. While, I did wish there was more angst and drama, I still enjoyed this one.

Another rock solid story from Carrie.

Mace was making a fucking mistake, and he didn’t care. Adrienne tasted like sin and seduction, and he knew if he stopped kissing her, he’d let his mind wander to what the hell he was doing, and he’d fuck up everything even more.

So, he kept kissing her.

And then he took it deeper. His fingers tangled in her hair, and she slid her hands up his chest, digging into his flesh. Their moans were lost in the wind and rain outside as it beat down on the bathroom window, and he couldn’t help but explore her mouth.

He’d thought about doing this countless times; thought about tasting her, having her. He’d imagined himself licking up her neck and down between her breasts before devouring her everywhere else. He’d thought about how she’d arch into him as he plunged into her, and they’d both come, panting and sweaty.

He’d thought about all of it because he’d been attracted to Addi from day one, but had never wanted to hurt their friendship. That was still the case because she was the most important adult in his life, the strongest relationship he had with another person besides Daisy.

Another smashing hit for Soraya in her Chicago Syndicate series!

For the Love of Luca may be book number eight in this series and it may feature the couple in her very first book, but you do not need to read any of the previous books in this series to understand everything going on in this book. Now, will this book make you want to go back and read the previous books, most definitely yes.

I can’t applaud and shout to the rooftops how much I love Soraya and her mafia series. She is one my favorite authors when it comes to mafia series – she knows how to mix the suspense, action and romance perfectly without losing any aspects to the story. She intertwines everything so perfectly and delivers one hell of a story.

For the Love of Luca felt like the perfect follow up for those of us who have read about Luca and Fallon in the previous books. For those who haven’t, it’s the perfect book to see a strong relationship in the mafia world can grow so much.

Fallon is no longer this meek and fragile woman. She has learned what her husband’s role is, even though he had done his best to protect her from most of it. But any woman standing along side a mafia man, needs to be able to hold her own too. And Fallon proves that she is cable, even when Luca still wans to protect her from ugliness of their world.

Luca is a man who doesn’t like not having control. And that constant need to have control, blinds him from seeing how confident and stronger Fallon has become. His need to not only protect his family within the mafia, but Fallon and their kids causes him to lose sight of things and inevitably throwing things into the shit storm they find themselves in.

As with all her books, Soraya gives us everything in her books. I can never put one of her books down once I start them. I feel like I am revisiting a long lost family, a lethal family, but a family none the less that I love revisiting them with every book she writes. I can’t wait for the next book in this series, because well, I can never grow tired of this series!!
