Power ebbs and flows through the tides of history. Civilizations rise and fall in sync to society’s orbit. Humanity echoes the faults of its forebears, the future written by the past’s hand.
In the throes of man’s lust for domination, a young girl emerges from the cinders of war, forged in the fires of adversity, proved in the waters of fortitude. Surviving a plague conceived by nature and a genocide crafted by man, she will rise as both beacon to her persecuted people and blight to their oppressors. An army will assemble against her, while another breed of warrior will join her ranks.
She will inflict a reckoning on those who wielded war in the name of peace and spark redemption for those who suffered in the name of progress. She is one, representing all. She is all, occupying one.
She is plague, and her dawn is nigh.

When Nicole said that she was releasing a book that was nothing like she had ever written before, she was not lying – at all.
Dawn of Plagues is a post-apocalyptic world where the remaining humans have been divided in two “groups”; those who serve and those who rule. But there is an uprising in the air, but the story of getting there is one that Nicole crafted brilliantly in this book.
Nicole created and brought this world to life straight from the words on each page. I was immediately consumed by her words, the development of these places described so impeccably, you could visualize their despair and beauty at the same time.
Lyv, Tek, Sanders, Hoc, Bes, Dar and so many more – all of her characters were brilliantly written. Even when the book is written from Lyv’s POV the entire time, you could feel and sense the emotions and convictions of others through either their mannerisms or their words.
Dawn of Plagues came to life in so many ways for me. I hadn’t expected to be moved to tears while reading this book, and yet because of Nicole’s talented writing, I was so engrossed in the scene and the characters, I felt tears stream down my face at one point. But throughout this book and with every character, I felt their passion and their purpose. Hell, I even laughed at some the levity that Nicole brilliantly wove into this fiery book.
I took away so much from this book, but I want to leave you all with a few (of many) snippets that stood out for me:
“When people look outward for a hero, they forget to look inward for the one that dwells there.”
“No greater atrocities have been committed than those in the name of righteousness.”
“I don’t live in the absence of fear, I act in spite of it.”
“There was not greater evil in the world than a man who embraced the dark when he recognized the light.”
I could truly go on and one with this book. I can’t tell you the amount of highlights and notes I have from reading this book. I loved every morsel that Nicole wrote.
A Nicole said, this is nothing like she has written before; there is no romance in this book. But it showcases her talent by writing an intricate story with characters that will weave into your being. This story may be told from one character’s POV, but you will understand it from every character’s conviction.
Dawn of Plagues is one book that will stick with me. I have read many post-apocalyptic books but very few have etched their way into my soul. Even if you aren’t a fan of this genre, read this book. I promise you won’t regret it.
