My Review:

Bohemian is the fourth book in author Vanessa Fewings’ Stone Master Vampire Series, and admittedly the first in the series that I have read.  Clearly I have been missing out because this is a beautifully written book and I must add the entire series to my reading list.

Scotland Yard Inspector Ingrid Jansen is put on the case of a woman abducted from the streets of London.  She has no idea at the time that this case will lead her back into the world of immortals, a world she must keep hidden from her fellow detectives on the case. A world she was ordered to stay far away from by her former vampire lover and head of the vampire society.  Easier said than done when Ingrid realizes that the missing woman is part of that immortal world.  Ingrid finds herself caught up in more than just the mystery of a missing person when the vampires she is trying to leave behind show up on her doorstep.  She is suddenly caught up in mystery and deceit and at one point has no idea who she can trust anymore.  Can she trust the vampire love she has been trying in vain to forget about? Or maybe the vampire enemy that seems to be changing his ways? Or should she trust the legendary instinct that has gotten her this far in her career?  Uncertainty has never held such a high price….the life of a missing person is at stake.

This, to me, was a refreshing change of pace in that it was a mystery with some fantastic suspense and the added beauty of the classic vampire.  What I mean by that is that the vampires in this book are eloquent, members of high society, stunningly beautiful and remain hidden from the mortal world.  They have a lot of the traits that make up the “original” vampire and it was nice to get back to those roots….not being able to go out into the daylight as just one of those traits.  What was also enjoyable was the fact that even though it is the fourth book in a series I have not read, I was not lost while reading.  Relationships and background information was explained with just enough information to keep me up to speed without going into too much detail and diluting the story.  The mystery piece of the story was done really well and had me guessing until the very end, which I didn’t see coming at all.  Ingrid was a likable gal with a good head on her shoulders and reacted to situations in a very natural way.  I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for her and her vampire love, Jadeon.  In this book they have reached quite a turning point in their relationship and it was a treat to read.

The Stone Master Vampire Series is a vampire series worth checking out if you haven’t already and a vampire series I am looking forward to reading more from!  Thank you, Vanessa, for a beautifully written, suspenseful, mysterious story!

Tempting the Cowboy: A Paint River Ranch Book (Entangled Indulgence) (Amazon)

Barnes & Noble  ~  Goodreads

Synopsis:

After taking a job on a quiet Montana dude ranch, ex-cop Rylan Frederickson finds herself surrounded by unbelievably sexy cowboys. Too bad the one she wants is her boss…and the single dad of a four-year-old. It doesn’t matter anyway, because after a recent tragedy, there’s simply no more room in her heart.

Letting a new woman into their life is the last thing Cole Haywood wants for him and his daughter, Birdie. But as Rylan’s presence at Paint River Ranch breathes new life into his family he can’t ignore his growing attraction.

When the sparks between them turn into fireworks in bed, Rylan’s torn between the family she’s lost and the one she may have found. Now she must decide if something that feels this good is worth the risk.

My review:

Tempting the Cowboy is the first book in a new series from author Elizabeth Otto, and oh my, what an amazing start!

Rylan Frederickson has had too much of her life taken away by tragedy and is looking to make a fresh start.  It’s that desire that leads her to Paint River Ranch.  Certain that a more simple life working as a housekeeper on the ranch is exactly what she needs to start to heal her hurt.  What she’s certain she doesn’t need is to deal with the gorgeous, sexy, yet ornery, co-owner of the ranch.  He’s an attraction she really can’t afford and even worse he’s a single dad of a beautiful four-year old little girl.  The combination of a handsome, doting father and an adorable, loving little girl represents what was taken away from her and what she could never have again.

Cole Haywood is a busy man these days.  Running his family’s ranch and being a single dad take up all of his waking hours, but he wouldn’t change a thing….except maybe adding the love of a good woman into the mix.  On second thought, maybe not.  He’d tried that route before and it didn’t turn out well.  It did, however, lead to a new section to the Paint River Ranch employee handbook.  No *ahem* relations with the staff.  Now, after meeting Rylan, the new housekeeper, he’s thinking that maybe that handbook needs another revision to remove that section.  Unfortunately there’s more than just a policy keeping him away from Rylan and he’s reminded every time that he looks at his little girl.  He can’t afford to make any mistakes and his focus needs to remain on his little girl, Birdie, and his ranch.  The question is, how long can the reasons to stay away from Rylan hold up?

The paths that Rylan and Cole have gone down lead them both to this crossroads in their lives and it seems like fate has led them here together.  Both equally wounded by love and life in the past, they don’t realize it right away, but eventually they will…that they can help each other heal and learn to love again.

I devoured this book.  I read it in just one sitting and loved every minute.  It starts out with Rylan and Cole not liking each other one bit and turns into a passion fueled romance that I adored.  Rylan’s story absolutely broke my heart and I wanted nothing more than for her to have a happy ending.  She deserved it more than I can say.  As a police officer, she was as tough as nails, but in her personal life she wasn’t strong enough and she’s paying for it now.  I really enjoyed seeing her emotional journey through this story and I cried through so much of the last part of this book…but, you know I love that!  Cole is an equally amazing character.  He is gruff and rugged with a gorgeous body and killer looks.  He carries around so much weight on his shoulders but carries it with dignity.  His loyalty to his family and his love for his little girl made him even more delicious than just a sexy cowboy.  Together, Cole and Rylan are a match made in heaven.  They rise above the lows life has given them and in the end, realize they have found love and another chance at a happily ever after.  Now, I will tell you that it isn’t an easy road and the last few chapters had me sobbing and my chest was aching but don’t worry, you’ll love the ending.  I promise!

Thank you, Elizabeth, for a fabulous story.  I am SO looking forward to more from this series and the Haywood boys!

Synopsis:

Liv Braxton’s Felon Rule #1: Don’t get emotionally involved.

Smash-and-grab thieving doesn’t lend itself to getting chummy with the victims, and Liv hasn’t met anyone on the mining colony of Nevarro worth knowing, anyway. So it’s easy to follow her Rules.

Until her ex, Tonio, shows up with an invitation to join him on the job of a lifetime.

Until Zia Talbot, the woman she’s supposed to deceive, turns Liv’s expectations upside down in a way no woman ever has.

Until corporate secrets turn deadly.

But to make things work with Zia, Liv has to do more than break her Rules, and the stakes are higher than just a broken heart . . .

***

Well, consider me a Cathy Pegau fan. This book reads like a kickass heist movie IN SPACE with the requisite fast-paced ending and twists I never saw coming. In other words, I loved it! It’s smart and funny and the plot kept me turning the pages. I thought the world-building and science fiction elements were well done.

Liv, our heroine, is funny in that “Oh, I wish I had said that” kind of way. Yep, she’s a smartass. She makes a classic mistake during a job—she falls for her mark, Zia. Who happens to be another woman. The romance doesn’t kick in until the second half of the book and some reviews I read thought Liv’s conflicted feelings for her ex in the first half of the book negated the romance with Zia or made them root for a reunion. I feel like it added another layer of depth. For me, it felt like a natural progression. Liv works with hunky ex, has impure thoughts and almost acts on them. (I mean who hasn’t almost slipped and hooked up with an ex?). Meets girl. Thinks girl is hot. Falls for girl. I think someone who didn’t necessarily know they could fall in love with a member of the same sex might discover it in just that fashion.

Rulebreaker is a Phoebe’s Pick!

About the author:

I had stories revolving in my head as a kid, but made little effort to get them down on paper. Home computers were rare way back then, and using my Brother Correct-O-Typewriter was a pain. Funny, then, I thought it too time consuming to use a pen and paper. Now, I will most likely write my stuff out by hand before sitting at the computer to input/edit.

Writing was not the career path I chose when the time came. I thought the arts, while enjoyable, was not the way to make a living. So I went into science. Wildlife biology, to be exact. Yep, plenty of prosperous biologists wandering about in the woods, you know. Obviously money was not high on my list of job perks. But I enjoyed the course work (how many college students can say THAT?) and managed to get short-term positions for a few years. It was fun, hard and sweaty work, and gave me the chance to see and do things I wouldn’t have if I had chosen accounting or even writing. Like get lost in the woods overnight. But that’s another story.

I got engaged, then married–to a scientist, assuring perpetual financial uncertainty. We lived in Oregon for a while, and when he was offered a job in Alaska we jumped at it. So, now we live here with our kids and critters and the occasional moose strolling through the yard. I can’t afford therapy, so I write. I want to do what I want to do, so I write. I want my kids to know that pursuing dreams is important, so I write.

ARC Review….Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren

Beautiful Player releases TODAY!

BeautifulPlayerCOVER

Book links:

Amazon  ~   Barnes & Noble  ~  Goodreads

Synopsis:

In the third book in the Beautiful Bastard series, an agreement between a venture capitalist and a bookish woman quickly becomes a very NSFW version of My Fair Lady.

When Hanna “Ziggy” Bergstrom moves to New York City for graduate school, Will Sumner thinks his responsibilities to his best friend’s nerdy little sister will be limited to the occasional dinner and check-in. Little does he know that Ziggy is ready to break out of her bookworm academic shell and move more into bombshell territory. Of course she figures the gorgeous womanizing venture capitalist Will is the best person to help mentor her in this new field of study: dating.

Will takes on the challenge with more than a healthy dose of skepticism and humor, but soon finds that Ziggy just needed a tiny push, not a world of change, to reveal a woman every man seems to notice. Soon “Ziggy” is gone and the unfiltered, innocently seductive Hanna Bergstrom is hijacking his dreams, his moods, and even his orderly no-strings-attached dating life—beginning the night his mentoring activities move between the sheets.

My review:

Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Bastard Series.  I was so flipping excited when I got an early copy of Beautiful Player in the mail, but that excitement pales in comparison to the love I have for this book after finishing it.  Good Lord.  This book is by far my favorite in the series and has left me with a serious book hangover.

As much as she hates to admit it, Hanna Bergstrom knows her social life is seriously lacking.  She doesn’t need her family to point it out….but that’s exactly what they do on their latest visit to see her in NYC.  She’s too busy with grad school for a life and dating and all of the distractions that come with it.  Plus, she’s never really been good at the whole dating scene and hates the uncertainty of not knowing what guys like or what they want.  Her place was in the lab and with all things science related.  However, at the suggestion of her older brother, she reaches out to his childhood friend, and her first crush, Will Summer.  The thought of seeing Will again after all these years was slightly terrifying, if she’s being honest. He is tattooed, gorgeous, smooth, brilliant, successful, edgy, a combo that threatens to bring back all of those young girl crush feelings back to the surface.  Hanna was older now, and surely she could handle hanging out with a friend, right?  Maybe he could teach her the ropes of the dating world and help her gain her confidence with the male species.  Maybe she could lie to herself and deny she’s completely lost to Will the second she sees him….

Will Summer was happy to agree to see Ziggy, aka Hanna Bergstrom, after not seeing her for more than a few years.  Her family had been good to him since he was young and he owes them more than just a few casual meet-ups with his best friend’s younger sister.  He owes a lot of the man he is today to the Bergstrom family.  Things are going really well for him since he last saw her.  He’s successful and happy, not only with his career, but with his regular success with the ladies.  Being a fan of control and order, things are just the way Will likes them.  Imagine Will’s surprise wen he sees Ziggy and the woman she’s grown into and his immediate physical response to her when they meet early one morning for a run.  After spending just a short time with her, he realizes he’s reaction is not only to the beauty she has become but also to her amazing, honest, open, quirky and funny personality.  He may have made a promise to hang out with her, but can he make a promise to keep things strictly friend-zone only with her?  Not.   Freaking.  Likely.

My original review was going to read something like this:

“Buy this book.  Buy this book. Buy this book. Buy this book. Buy this book.”

But I figured that although I really just want you to trust me, and buy this book, that I should probably write more than that.  Oh, I loved this story.  There were so many things I loved about this book.  Hanna is one of my favorite book gals ever.  She is brilliant, nerdy, funny, no, not just funny, HILARIOUSLY funny, open, real and just plain enjoyable to read.  Will is delicious.  The fact that he’s also brilliant and tattooed under a suit and tie was enough to have me swooning.  Together the relationship they have is enviable.  What starts out as something innocent turns into something so detectably scorching that I have complete sections of this book that moved to the top of my favorite scenes list.  Not only were the scenes hot, but also Hanna’s yearning to learn what makes sex so enjoyable added an honest and open aspect to their relationship that made things so intense. Hanna making Will tell her exactly what he wanted, or Will making her say exactly what she wants him to do….I just have no words.  I actually had chills reading some of their interactions.  Even the scenes with their clothes on had such an amazing feel.  I just loved everything about this book.  There wasn’t anything I didn’t like or even one paragraph that I didn’t savor.  Have I mentioned I have a serious book hangover right now?  *pout*

I also loved seeing our other Beautiful Bastard cast members….Max, Sara, Bennett and Chloe.  They were all there along the way and gave some great advice when Hanna and Will needed it.

Now, here we are at the end of my review and my final thoughts for you all are:  BUY.  THIS.  BOOK.   Thank you Christina and Lauren for my favorite book in your series and for giving us Hanna and Will, a book couple I won’t ever forget.

Synopsis:

An alpha hero’s attraction to the one woman he can’t have could draw him into a killer’s snare in the sizzling new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster

Charismatic bar owner Rowdy Yates isn’t the kind of man women say no to. So when he approaches waitress Avery Mullins, he fully expects to get her number. However, the elusive beauty has her reasons for keeping her distance—including a past that might come back to haunt them both.

Avery spends her nights working for tips… and trying to forget the secret Rowdy is determined to unearth. But when history threatens to repeat itself, Avery grows to rely on Rowdy’s protective presence. As the sparks between them ignite, she will be forced to choose between the security she’s finally found… and the passion she’s always wanted.

My review:

Getting Rowdy is book three in Lori Foster’s Love Undercover series.  Being a Lori Foster fan, and after seeing the eye candy on this cover, I was really looking forward to this book and I gotta say…I think this may be my favorite book of the series so far!

Bartender Avery Mullins has been quietly lusting after bar owner Rowdy Yates for a little while now and she would love nothing more than to act on that lust, throw caution to the wind and spend a hot night with him.  But there’s more than one thing holding her back from acting on that.  First, there’s the little issue of Rowdy’s extra curricular activities with the ladies and his reputation as a ladies man, and second, there’s the issue of Avery’s less than memorable past.  It’s that less than memorable past, however, that will leave Avery no other choice than to trust Rowdy and accept his help, which leads Avery’s feelings from lust to something much deeper.

Avery Mullins is slowly killing Rowdy Yates.  Well, not literally, but every time she shuts down his advances, he swears the build up of his attraction for her will end up killing him.  He’s not looking for long term by any means but he is dying for just a taste of her.  There’s something about her he is drawn to and with every day he sees he in his bar, it gets stronger.  Little does Rowdy know that they have way more in common than just a mutual attraction.  While he’s used to his craptastic past pushing people away once they learn about it, he has a feeling it may be the sort of thing that Avery may be able to relate to.  She’s definitely hiding something and when he sets out to figure out what it is, it puts them on a path that will lead to much more than a one-night stand.

So, as I had said, I love Lori’s writing.  She does the alpha male so well and Rowdy Yates is one of the best.  I will admit, I was nervous about starting this book, because I wasn’t in love with the previous book in this series….BUT, this book totally turned it back around for me.  The fire between Avery and Rowdy was a delicious slow build to a full on inferno.  The two of them together are smoking hot!  Avery was hesitant to start anything with Rowdy, and I couldn’t blame her.  His reputation for being a ladies man was legendary and with girls constantly falling at his feet nightly at the bar, I would have felt exactly the way Avery did.  She held her ground with him and I really admired her for that.  Then, when I found out about her past, I admired her even more.  She stood up for what she believed in and had to leave her old life, and family, behind to make things better for her.  Unfortunately that past comes back to bite her in the ass, but Rowdy is there to help her and damn if it didn’t make me adore him!

Rowdy is the damaged hero with a terribly sad childhood that broke my heart, but it turned him into the man he is today, and it’s a pretty great one.  He reminds me of a Robin Hood of sorts.  Doing what’s needed to do to make things better for the less fortunate, but not always in the most legal of ways. Oh, and do I need to mention the cover again!?! Drool worthy doesn’t even begin to cover it. The two of them took a really crappy situation and used it to build a relationship that I’m sure will stand the test of time.

The mystery that surrounding Avery has an ending I totally didn’t see coming and I loved feeling the surprise at the end of the book! Well done on that, Lori! Oh, and the introduction of a kick ass character named Cannon has me DYING to see more of him! DYING I tell you!

All in all, I really enjoyed this book.  It was hot, mysterious, emotional and entertaining.  I definitely recommend for a spot on your reading list!  Thank you, Lori, for another fantastic read.

ARC Review….Falling for the Marine by Samanthe Beck

Falling for the Marine releases today!

FallingForTheMarineCOVER

Book links:

Amazon  ~  Barnes & Noble  ~  Goodreads

Synopsis:

USMC helicopter pilot Michael McCade has two goals: Get his damn back into alignment and keep his nose clean until his commanding officer clears him to fly again. The doctor-recommended massage therapy seems like a necessary step toward returning to the cockpit, but when his too-hot-to-handle neighbor, Chloe Kincaid, turns out to be his masseuse, he strays from the straight and narrow in a major way.

Chloe Kincaid is looking for a simple, no strings attached, ego-boosting hook up. But when her positively panty-melting neighbor, USMC Major Michael McCade, (aka Major Hottie), shows up on her massage table, she lets desire get the better of professionalism. Now theyre pretending to be engaged to avoid a whole lot of unanticipated consequences of a momentary lapse in judgment. But can a girl who avoids attachments at all costs fake an engagement to a straight-arrow soldier without falling hard?

My review:

Falling for the Marine is the second book in Samanthe Beck’s McCade Brothers series and follows Lover Undercover, a book I freaking loved.  Well, Samanthe has done it again….I fell for the marine in the very first chapter!  This book was yummy goodness!!

Having a whole lot of not-so-great in her life, Chloe Kincaid is ready to turn her luck around.  Looks like lady luck has another idea in mind, however.  Chloe finds herself in a *cough* compromising position and is handcuffed to her bed frame…with the keys having fallen down her HVAC vent.  With no other option, she yells for help and is rescued by her hot and sexy neighbor.  After that debacle, she plans on avoiding him at all costs but when he shows up on her massage table to deal with an injury, clearly she realizes avoiding him isn’t an option.  Lady luck ends up having the last laugh when circumstances between Chloe and her hottie neighbor lead to faking an engagement….that in turn leads to some very NOT fake feelings between them.  Has Chloe’s luck finally turned around?

Never having had to deal with physical limitations, USMC Major and helicopter pilot Michael McCade is not happy being grounded after a lower back injury.  Things start to look up, however, after he walks into his therapy appointment and finds the delicious damsel in distress he rescued the other night as his massage therapist. But when things get too hot during their session, he has to rescue her again….apparently there’s only specific, above the belt touching allowed during a massage.  Feeling responsible for Chloe’s current situation, which involves a lack of a job and apartment, he invites her to stay with him until she gets back on her feet.  Unfortunately his chivalrous actions end up going much further when his CO finds out about his living arrangements.  Shacking up with a girl is kinda frowned upon…well, unless that girl was his fiancée.  Problem solved! If only it was that easy. Soon Michael starts to have dreams of Chloe being his real fiancée….can he convince her what they have may be real after all?

The undeniable and instant attraction between Chloe and Michael was intense and delicious.  Chloe had more than a few admirable qualities about her. She had great optimism despite being unlucky in love before.  She has a free spirit but in the end, knows she needs to put her heart on the line.  Michael is the ultimate loyal, responsible, big-hearted alpha male with looks to kill.  On the flip side, his vulnerability shows with his injury and it made me love him even more.  He figures Chloe out almost instantly and calls her out when she tries to shut down.  Their personalities work so well together and it was such a treat to be able to see their relationship grow into something very real.  There were more than a few fun peculiarities in their relationship that I adored and the very end was abso-freaking-loutley PERFECT!  I laughed and cried and was so happy with the way Samanthe wrote Michale and Chloe’s book ending.  Pure perfection for a couple that started out quite the opposite!

Samanthe has a way about her writing that pulls the reader in from the very beginning and holds that interest until the end….I love that.  I will be looking for more from her and can’t wait to see what else she has in store for the yummy McCade brothers!  Thank you, Ms. Beck, for another marvelous read!

Short Rides is an anthology compilation of two novellas and one short story in the Rough Riders world. These are NOT meant to be read as standalone stories, but are a peek into favorite character’s lives after the happily ever after…

The stories included in the Short Rides anthology are:

King of Hearts* — Deputy Cam McKay deals with a murder/suicide case on Valentine’s Day.

Rough Road — Chassie, Trevor and Edgard Glanzer spend a romantic weekend away from the ranch and kids celebrating their anniversary…only to return home to face their biggest challenge yet.

All Knocked Up — Keely and Jack Donohue are having a baby. Given Keely’s raging pregnancy hormones, will Jack need to wear a cup in the delivery room?

Selene’s Review:

At the beginning of this anthology, I was crying. After that, I was completely furious and outraged! And by the end, I was laughing my boots off!!!

This sequence of short stories definitely is author Lorelei James at her best. She makes us fall in love with our favorite characters all over again while taking us along on new adventures! The three stories together had just a little bit of everything and they left me salivating for more.

Cam’s story, King of Hearts, absolutely broke my heart, mended it back together, and then completely melted it. All three stories send a strong message of family as a saving grace but none more so than this one. What I loved about this one especially is the depiction of how difficult former soldiers, emergency responders, and police officers have it and how their experiences can weigh down on them to the point of tragedy. The scenes between Cam and his brother, his wife, and his kids were absolutely beautiful and it reminded me of why I keep coming back to this author.

Edgard, Trevor, and Chassie’s story was much like their book Rough, Raw, and Ready; a little sad and A LOT HOT. I absolutely never tire of those three together and reading through the trials and tribulations they have to go through because of their “unconventional” lifestyle always breaks my heart. No three characters in this series are more deserving of love and the way they protect their children is incredibly touching. Did I mention how hot their love scenes were? *shudder*

Finally, we got to see Keely (McKay) Donohue pregnant. THREE TIMES. Keely and Jack’s story had me almost rolling on the floor laughing! The fact that she threw a planter at her husband went beyond funny right into “I think I just peed myself” territory. And I have to say that no other couple to date in this series has the heat factor that these two have. All I can say is that I hope to have makeup sex like them in the near future.

Well done, Miss James. Very well done.

About the Author:

A bit about me: When I’m not squirreled away behind my laptop writing fun, sexy, contemporary erotic romances set in the modern day Wild West, I can be found reading everything under the sun, practicing yoga until I’m a pretzel, shootin’ my .22, watching the Professional Bull Riders tour on Versus, and running a kid’s taxi service, all in the guise of avoiding housework and rustlin’ up vittles.

Why do I have a particular fondness for all things western? Well, I’m a fourth generation South Dakotan, living in the Black Hills, which is chock-full of interesting characters, including cowboys, Indians, ranchers, and bikers. The geographical diversity of the surrounding area showcases mountains, plains, and badlands. Living in and writing about rural settings gives me a unique perspective, especially since I’m not writing historical westerns. Through my fictional world, I can show the ideals and the cowboy way of life are still very much alive.

Connectivity by Aven Ellis….A Most Appropriate Giveaway

A *Most Appropriate* Connectivity Giveaway

If you have read Connectivity by Aven Ellis, you will recognize these two things: the song “London Calling” and the phrase “Keep Calm and Carry On.”

“London Calling” is MK’s ringtone for William. And William loathes the overuse of “Keep Calm and Carry On”–so of course MK had to tease him about it.

Aven wanted to do a giveaway for Read-Love-Blog readers, and she found these fun bracelets that represent two things from the book. How fun is that?

I will be drawing two winners (one for each bracelet.) Drawing is open to both USA residents and those abroad. Entries will be received until October 31st. Winner will be drawn on Friday.

And if you haven’t read Connectivity yet, what are you waiting for? London is calling, you know.

By the way, you can find my review of Connectivity  here.

Synopsis:

Frankie Baudouin has a hundred reasons not to trust Nate DeLuca. First, he’s a DeLuca. Second, he kissed her—in front of the entire town—and then never called. Oh, and he’s after her land. Sorrento Ranch is Frankie’s last chance to prove to her family—and to herself—that she has what it takes to be an award-winning winemaker. And she will stop at nothing to ensure her success—even if it means playing nice with the starched, sophisticated, and oh-so-sexy Italian.

For Nate, Sorrento Ranch is more than just soil and grape vines; it was his father’s dream—a dream Nate is determined to make a reality. So when he finds himself forced to cohabitate with a hot-headed, irrational, and incredibly gorgeous Baudouin, Nate is surprised to discover that chaos could be so much fun.

My review:

Autumn in the Vineyard is the third book in Marina Adair’s St. Helena Vineyard Series, a series that I have loved since book one.  Well, this third book was just as amazing and really showed Marina’s talent….I’m sure Frankie was no easy gal to write, but she ended up being a gal I adore.

One wouldn’t call Frankie Baudouin girly, and that’s exactly how she likes it.  Frankie was raised in the vineyard, working amongst the vines and wouldn’t have it any other way.  Some might say she’s got a pretty big chip on her shoulder, but after being tossed out of her family’s business, how can you blame her?  Now she’s out to prove to everyone that she has what it takes and that wine runs in her blood and is what she was born to do.  Her family, the town, and even that Nate Deluca will all see what she’s made of.  She’s especially looking forward to rubbing Nate’s nose in it.  He’s been a thorn in her side since high school and after he had the nerve to kiss her in front of everyone, that thorn is digging deeper.  Now she finds out that he’s after the land she plans on using to make her wine, the wine that is going to prove her worth, and no way will she let that happen.  Unfortunately fate has a different plan and she finds herself forced to spend entirely too much time with him, and soon finds her resolve softening toward him.  Is the attraction worth risking all she’s ever worked for?

Nate DeLuca has lusted after the rough, terse and spit fired Frankie for as long as he can remember.  He made a move on her not that long ago and it ended up with her kneeing him in the family jewels.  A move that still stung.  He knows she’s had a less than ideal family life and he knows it’s part of what’s turned her into the woman she is today.  But the gruff exterior can’t hide her beauty or the fact that she’s loyal and has a heart bigger than she’d ever let on.  Yep, he’s got it bad for her and now after finding out they technically own the same land, he sees this as an opportunity to show her just how wonderful she is in his eyes.

Where to even begin?  I loved this book.  The dynamic between Frankie and Nate was amazing.  The push and pull was positively perfect for the personalities they have and it was shown so well.  There can’t be any two completely different people than Nate and Frankie.  She is totally un-girlie, flies off the handle at the drop of a hat and has a screw you attitude the size of Texas.  Nate is kind and caring and calm. She wears combat boots and he wears loafers.  He comes from a tight knit family and she’s the outcast of hers.  But you know what they say, opposites attract!  Nate knows Frankie better than she knows herself and his determination to show her just how amazing she is to him melted my heart.  He did so much for her, but kept the credit hidden all just to make her happy, and he knew if she found out he had taken care of a problem, she’d run.  He is patient with her and in the end she knew what he had known all along…that she was worth it.  There were so many times my heart broke for Frankie while I read this book, but Nate’s actions made everything better.  He is a knight in shining loafers without a doubt.  The end scene was one of the best scenes ever and it played out like a movie in my head while I read it.  *dreamy sigh* Marina does romance so flipping well!

I could gush about this book for many more paragraphs but instead of boring you, I’ll just say this:  buy this book! It’s another fabulous read from Marina and I will continue to look forward to more from the St. Helena Vineyard Series!

About the author:

Every author can identify the exact moment of inception, when the skies parted, the heavens sang, and a divine being came forth, anointing them one of the chosen, blessed to spend the rest of eternity weaving stories of ‘ever after’ for mass consumption.

For me, it wasn’t so much a moment, but an intervention.

Sophomore year, my fellow Blockheads sat me down and explained that I had an addiction. I was a NKOTB–A-holic. Afraid of becoming enablers, they refused to listen to another one of my never-ending stories about our passionate intrigues with Jordan, Joe, Jon, Danny, and Donnie. What they didn’t understand was that New Kids on the Block wasn’t my obsession—they were my current romance-medium of choice.

Twenty years later, my romance addiction is a hard, bodice-ripping, half-dozen books per week. When I’m not reading it or watching it, I am writing it—or workshopping it—or editing it—or strategizing how my hands to get more of it.

In 2010, I realized I was closer to menopause than prom and got serious about my career, writing my way toward a post-graduate degree in creative writing (in the off chance that the first one didn’t stick) and becoming a published romance author.

January of 2012, I sold my first novel, TUCKER’S CROSSING, to Kensington Books and The St. Helena Vineyard series to Montlake Romance.  KISSING UNDER THE MISTLETOE, the first in the series is a National Bestseller and #1 Romance Series bestseller. SUMMER IN NAPA releases May 14, 2013 and AUTUMN AT THE VINEYARD releases October 2013. In 2014 the first in the Sugar Series, BUT SUGAR’S TWICE AS SWEET, will release from Grand Central’s Forever line.

I live with my husband, daughter and three neurotic cats in Northern California.
