THE BLOOD SCION Blurb:

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I followed them.
I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in fear. That is when the monsters came out to play.
And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us.
The Houses. And their Scions.
Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation and death.
And somehow, I am one of them.

Chapter 1: The Reporter

No one wakes up and thinks, This is the day my life will change.
We wake up and think, I forgot to set the coffee. Five more minutes. I think I’m going to stop for a bagel. Did Elise give my dress back? Five more fucking minutes.
“Farley!”
I curse under my breath. Elise is yelling for me and that means I used up my five minutes ten minutes ago.
“I’m awake,” I say and she sticks her head around the screen that partitions my corner of her loft from the rest of the open space. Elise would be just as happy having me sprawled across her messy loft, but I like personal space and privacy.
Even if that space is miniscule and that privacy is pseudo, and we rent the loft from a family of four who side eyes us every time we leave.
The TV is on in the corner as I emerge from my bed, and I frown. “Turn it up.”
Elise makes an aggravated noise as she reaches for the remote. She’s painting her nails, the fumes making my nose wrinkle as I pour the coffee—thank God, I did set it last night.
A classically good looking man in his mid-forties is addressing a crowd of reporters, all of them hanging on his every word.
“The atrocities won’t stand. We need to remember that we were dying when the Houses stepped forward with the antidote to the Brakken and restored order. The fealty given to their lines and Scions are not only appropriate, it is their right.”
I glance at Elise, scanning her tablet as the blood red polish dries. “What happened?”
“HR0 bombed a coven.”
My blood runs cold and I swallow hard to keep from rubbing away the goosebumps running down my arm.
The human rights movements terrify me. Not because I disagree with them. I don’t. I agree too much. It’s terrifying because the Houses don’t tolerate any dissent. Some will accept the rumblings of the movement, as long as it stays only that.
But no House will tolerate humans attacking the covens. And–“Where did it happen?”
Elise glances up at me, her pale eyes haunted. “Seattle.”
Fuck.
The west coast belongs to House Klinge. And they are savage. Blood will spill tonight, and wash Seattle’s streets red. I wonder how many will die to appease the fury of the House before the patriarch brings his princes to heel.
Hundreds.
“Go,” Elise says abruptly. “You can’t fix everything and the HRO knew the risks. We all do.”
I nod, and grab my coffee, heading into the shower as the Kennedy scion drones on.
We all know the risk of crossing one of the Houses. But some are desperate enough that they no longer care.

The sun is shining, something that is comforting as I step out of the brownstone and jog down the steps. The subway isn’t far, but it’s enough that the sunlight protects me—and that’s done very carefully.
Most people think any sunlight will protect them. It’s why apartments became outdated after the plague. They might be right. No one believes the memories of a terrified little girl—even I’ve started to wonder if I was wrong. I keep my fears to myself, buried deep.
I keep a lot to myself. More than anyone, even Winston, realizes.
The office is quiet when I step in—most of the reporting staff is on assignment, and some will be scrambling to get a soundbite from the Houses.
Not that they will—some might get the idle blood chatter, but no Scion would bother themselves with our tiny e-zine. We’re not important enough for the big boys to even notice.
Which is fine. I flick my hair out of my eyes and grab my messages from my unpaid intern and close myself into my office without a word.
There’s a few from my brother, and one from my editor. Two without a number to respond to. I frown. Most of the time, people email me. Anyone who works with knows I loathe the phone. Even Kevin knows—he’s just too much of an ass to care.
My inbox dings and I shove the messages aside as I focus on the stories waiting for me.

THE SCIONLESS HOUSE Blurb:

Twelve Houses. Twelve vampire lines. We ruled from the shadows, and manipulated the world, and when humans came too close to destruction, we intervened.
Every House has a Scion. A fragile, easily broken human that stood shoulder to shoulder with the house Princes and Princesses.
Except for ours. The Ravens, House Cantelie.
We’ve been without a Scion for almost fifteen years.
But that will change…and her life will be mine to protect.

Monster Prick by Kendall Ryan….Release Blitz & Review

Over my dead body.

That’s what I told Gracie when she informed me of her plan to pick some random guy she met online to get rid of her pesky virginity.

If anyone is touching her, it’s going to be me.

I shouldn’t even be considering it, but I can’t get it out of my head: her, under me, begging me.

***
Arrogant. Cocky. Prick.

Those are the words I’d use to describe my older brother’s dangerously handsome best friend.

When he learned of my plan to kick off my white cotton briefs, ditching my good girl persona once and for all by losing my virginity to the first eligible bachelor I could find, he flipped out. Said over his dead body.

He says if anyone’s going to do it, it’s going to be him.

I hate that I’m even considering his offer.

But I am … I sooo am.

Ever since he suggested it, all I can think about is his cocky smile on those full lips as he’s driving in to me.

But if we cross that line … will I ever be able to go back?

MONSTER PRICK, a sexy romantic comedy, is a spin off novella from SCREWED, but can be read as a standalone, as it features a new couple.

REVIEW

Monster Prick is Kendall’s first try at a novella. I must say that I enjoyed. Did I enjoy it as much as her other books, no. But that’s because I enjoy her writing so much and wanted this story to go more in depth. But then that would kill the whole point of this being a novella. LOL

Hudson and Gracie are too loveable characters. Yes, Hudson is a manwhore. But not when it comes to Gracie. And no matter what he says, he sucks at hiding it. Gracie – lord I wanted to squeeze this girl. She is so sweet and cute – what isn’t there to like about her.

Their story is very endearing and has you hoping for the best. Just when we get to the point I want more, we are given the epilogue. Please do not take this as a bad thing – it just proves that Kendall sucks you right into a love story and has you wanting more and more. But the story is written very well and other than wanting more, it flows beautifully.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It is so sweet and heartfelt. For anyone looking for a loveable but quick read – this is it!

EXCERPT
Hudson
“What if I could help you?”
I have no idea what the hell I was thinking. The words just
leaped out of my mouth. Listening to Gracie talk about kicking off her granny panties
and popping her cherry with some random Internet dick…I guess it drove me
temporarily insane.
But there’s no taking back the idea now. Gracie sucks in her
breath, blinking wide-eyed. “What do you mean?” she asks.
What do I mean? Here I am, sitting next to the world’s most
beautiful girl—drowning in her eyes, her scent, the gentle puff of her breath
on my mouth that begs me to close the distance. I know what I want, but I also
know what will happen if I take it. My best friend will rip off my balls and
feed them to me. And I’ll probably deserve every second.
But sweet Jesus, I’m pretty sure Gracie wants this, too, and
that’s enough to blow my better judgment to pieces. All I care about right now
is making her feel better. In as many ways as possible. And if her slightly
quickened breathing, blown pupils, and flushed cheeks are anything to go by…
As an experiment, I dart out the tip of my tongue to wet my
lips. Her darkened eyes drop like a magnet yanked them. Yeah, bingo. Having a
little black book as thick as the dictionary has its advantages. I know damn
well how to tell when a woman wants me.

Designed for Murder by Avery Flynn….Blog Tour Stop & Review

Designed for Murder (Killer Style 4) by Avery Flynn

Date of Publication: November 10, 2015

Blurb

This book can be read as a standalone!

Devastated after he discovers the woman he loved and his partner in the role-playing game, Magic Battledome, was a psychotic killer, Maltese Security’s resident computer genius, SciFi fan and geek-about-town Carlos Castillo retreats into his work. Tossing aside all ties to the Magic Battledome community, he eats, sleeps and breaths investigations. He’s determined to prove to the rest of the team—and himself—that he’s not all book smart and street stupid. He pleads for a case and finally gets one the boss thinks is right up his alley. Someone is targeting a Live Action Role Playing (LARP) Magic Battledome team, delivering vicious beatings before robbing them of their costumes. To solve the case, Carlos has to dive back into the world he’d abandoned.

Mika Ito loves creativity in all its forms. As a textile designer and a LARPer, she combines her two favorite things by creating costumes for her fellow Magic Battledome elves. But when someone starts targeting her fellow LARPers and the police don’t seem to be much help, she hires Maltese Security to solve the case. If a reformed sinner is the most devoted, then a former LARPer is the most rudely dismissive and Carlos Castillo fits the bill. But when they discover that the material she’s been using for the costumes has been soaked in liquid cocaine by someone in her supply chain, they must work together to solve the case. Especially now that the bad guy is doing whatever it takes to retrieve the tainted material—including having lethal designs on Mika’s life.

My Review:

Designed for Murder is the fourth installment in author Avery Flynn’s Killer Style series, and although it can be read as a standalone, I have loved this entire series and highly recommend reading them all regardless.  This story was just as fast-paced and sexy as the others but there is just something about these two sexy geeky characters that puts it in the lead as my fave of the series thus far.  I loved it!

With so many things to love about this story, it’s hard to know where to start.  Mika is a star in the LARPing world and is determined to get her hands on the person responsible for hurting her gaming family.  It’s that determination that leads her to Maltese Security.  She’s no-nonsense and speaks what’s on her mind and I loved reading her.  Carlos has been burned in the past after falling for the wrong woman and because of her, he had given up the on-line gaming part of his life.  An on-line world hew as a gaming god in.  Now he was hell-bent on working cases in Maltese that didn’t include computers whatsoever.  Man, does fate have a plan for these two!

From start to finish, the heat and action in this story kept me glued to each page and every word.  This book starts out with a bang (pun intended lol!) and just got better and better.  Mika and Carlos are beyond smoking hot together and having to work together to stop these attacks added a layer I loved.  Mainly because after their initial meeting, neither one thought they’d ever see each each other again. Talk about a surprise when your supposed one night stand walks into your meeting at the security company you want to hire.  Their chemistry was undeniable and even though neither one was looking for a relationship, their pasts and both having gone through a traumatic event, will connect them on a level much deeper than just a working relationship.

The who-dun-it aspect was also done really well and was a mystery I loved getting to the bottom of.  But I have to say, my overall favorite thing about this story and these characters was the LARPing and the geekiness.  It was a fresh element and one I think a lot of us can relate to.  I’m a geek at heart myself so I loved the costumes and gaming.  Such a great addition to an amazing story.

Entertaining and lovable characters, sex, mystery, action…this book really is the whole package!  Thank you, Ms. Flynn, for another stellar addition to the Killer Style series.  I can’t wait to see what’s next!

About Avery Flynn

Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.

She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staffs knew her by name.

Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Crashing: The Wedding by Kristen Hope Mazzola…Book Blitz & Review

Title: Crashing: The Wedding (Crashing #0.5)
Author: Kristen Hope Mazzola
Release Date: Nov 2, 2015
Find on Goodreads
**This Book is a Standalone** It is a companion novella to The Crashing Series and takes place before Crashing Back Down (book 1 in the series).
Well this is freaking great…
Right when my best friend’s wedding was in full swing, the flowers were paid for, the dresses were being tailored and the bachelorette party was planned and nonrefundable, the bomb gets dropped right on my doorstep at four in the morning.
“The Wedding is OFF!” Mags yelled right as I opened the door to my apartment.
Oh hell no! We’re not canceling these plans. I will make this work. I will get her and Randy on track to walking down that freaking isle. I am getting to go on a bachelorette weekend vacation to party with my best friend! This is happening whether Mags and Randy like it or not.
That’s what a best friend is for, right?!
***18+ for sexual situations, cursing, and adult content.***
review
I really enjoyed this novella. It is a prequel to the other two books in this series and you truly do not have to read them to understand this at all.

I have not had the opportunity to read the other two books in this series so I personally felt this was a great intro to the characters. It gives you a sense of who they are beforehand.

You can sense the sisterhood between Charli and Mags in this novella. It’s a very sweet and heartfelt friendship. I smiled a lot throughout the story until we got to to the gripping point where book 1 comes into play. It’s a very small piece but this book gives you the background you need to understand Mag’s character.

Again, since I have not read any other books in this series or by Kristen (that will be changing), I am hoping that we might get a book about Charli and the other characters in this tight knit group. And if they already are – have no doubt that I will be reading and reviewing those at some point in the near future!

Great prequel Kristen! You definitely grabbed my attention and have me curious as to what happens in the following books!

“May I have this dance?” Mitch extended his hand to me after throwing his napkin on his plate, and of course it was a twostep that came on.
I shoved out of my chair. “Why the heck not?”
The drinks had already started to go to my head as Mitch led me out onto the dance floor. The tent that had been set up in the yard was magnificent. There were twinkling lights strung up everywhere with a few chandeliers hanging about. The DJ had put beautiful lighting around the space to give it a nice purple hue.
“Try not to step on the shoes, they’re rented,” Mitch teased as he started to push me around.
I didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the wedding bliss that was swimming around, but as I looked up at Mitch as he twirled me around, I saw him in a completely different light. His dark hair, smoldering stare, chiseled jawline, beautiful tattoos, and smile that could last for days—it was all stunning to me.
Before my mind could overanalyze what my heart was doing, I was grabbing Mitch’s shirt and pulling his lips down to mine. Slowly, our lips connected. Smooth and soft at first, the sweet kiss then turned into hunger and lust. My tongue explored his mouth and his hand slid down my back to grip my ass.
Trying to catch his breath, Mitch pulled away from me. “Are you sure this is a good idea?”
Once his words registered, I took a step back. “Probably not.”
Mitch hugged me to his side. “If we are ever going to hook up, I don’t want either of us to be drunk when it happens.” He kissed my forehead and handed me off to Mags as she swished over to me. “Want a drink?” Mitch looked at both of us as we nodded.
Crashing Back Down (#1)
Mags McManus has just become a war widow in her mid-twenties. Her late husband, Randy, left for the Army right after their wedding. Instead of celebrating his homecoming and living in marital bliss with her soulmate, Mags finds herself living in constant agony. Dealing with the guilt of still living without Randy, are Randy’s best friends and parents.
Rising from the ashes of this tragedy, Mags starts to learn how to love and trust again, finally being able to find happiness. But sometimes things really are too good to be true and again Mags learns how cruel the world can be as she crashes back down.
Falling Back Together (#2)
“I don’t know if it’s fate, coincidence, or my curse, but I’m still breathing, and my breaths are for you.”
Mags McManus is far from a normal woman in her mid twenties. Being a war widow, a business professional, and a brokenhearted train wreck only skims the surface of the layers of who Margret McManus truly is. Waking up in a hospital bed, alone and confused, Mags once again has to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart. With her best friends by her side, Mags slowly starts to learn the answers she so desperately longs for. But is everything going to continue to spiral out of control? Or is there a light at the end of this dark, twisting tunnel where all the broken pieces can finally fall back together?

But when he meets Berkeley, a woman who affects him like no one else, a new kind of battle begins . . .
An Admiral’s daughter, Berkeley knows her life has been planned since birth. The right school, the right boyfriend—and now that she’s graduated—the right marriage. But after years of being right, Berkley is ready to be a little wrong. And Dare Conners has wrong written all over him. The sexy soldier has a body built for sin and secrets he won’t share. What starts as a fling quickly grows into something more. But summer can’t last forever, and when the truth comes out, both Berkeley and Dare could be in for quite a fall.

My review:

Last True Hero is the newest work from author Diana Gardin and being a huge fan of Ms. Gardin’s work, I was so excited for this book.  Well, from start to finish, I loved every second of it!
Dare is at a crossroads in life.  His Ranger days are pretty much behind him and without a real place to call home, he ends up in a small town, staying with a close friend, and trying to figure out what’s next.  He never expected to meet a woman like Berkley.  He never expected to want to say in this small town.  He never expected to fall in love.
Berkley is looking forward to one thing: getting out from under her parents’ controlling thumbs.  She never wanted the buttoned up and prim and proper life they have planned out for her.  The only problem is she just doesn’t know how to do it.  Enter Dare.  He is everything she wasn’t looking for but everything she wants.  Could he have entered her life at this moment for a reason?
The obstacles Dare and Berkley face are numerous and seem impossible.  But together, they can face it all….if they just give it a chance.
Oh, I loved this book!  This was just one of those stories that you start and can’t put down.  From amazing characters, a great small town del and to relationships between friends, there was so much to love.  The relationship between Dare and Berkley grows at a delicious pace with a lot of three steps forward, one step back, and I loved it.  Dare is struggling with getting his feet under him and has a heartbreaking past with a childhood spent in foster car after his parents death and now struggling with PTSD.  He’s strong and resilient, though, and has a wonderful outlook on life and I loved it.  He takes care of Berkeley and has such a soft side and a huge heart.  Truly the whole package! Berkley is in a tough spot with being and adult but not being treated like one.  I was rooting for her from the very beginning to have the courage to tell her parents what she really wants out of life.  She is a tough cookie but respects her parents and hates to think she would let them down if she headed down a different path than the one they planned for her.  Man, I was pulling for these two to get the change at love that they truly deserved!
Adding to the growing relationship between Dare and Berkeley are some amazing friends and a bit of drama when Dare’s troubled brother comes to town.  Whew, that was a nerve-wracking situation for sure!
Overall, this is a well-written and well-rounded story that I know any romance lover will adore. Thank you, Ms. Gardin for a fantastic story!  I can’t wait to see what’s next for this amazing group of characters.

This decision is what opened her eyes to the fact that she still very much loved to write, and her first novel was written.

review

Ok – so don’t bite me head off, but this is the first time I have read a book by K. Bromberg. I know, I know – I have been completely missing out and I get that now. And I will be going back and reading the other books in this series.

This is the one book in this series that can be read as a standalone and I absolutely fell in head first. And I was pulled under completely. I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I jumped into this book. But all the thrills, excitement and holy sh*t moments kept me glued to my kindle.

Tanner immediately intrigued me. He’s very much an alpha in every way. He takes no sh*t and does what he wants. He’s very street smart and intuitive. But he throws himself into his work to avoid the tougher things in his life.

BJ/Beaux is not what he expected. She deals out sh&t as quickly as he. And she’s his new photographer who won’t back down from him. But she too has her own shit that she isn’t handling well.

I think another factor that made this book so damn enthralling was the setting. It’s fast paced and action packed. And that’s how the entire book plays out. These two are forced to be together practically 24/7 and that makes up for an explosive storyline. This book is full of suspense, surprises and lots of action.

Kristy – you have earned yourself another huge fan! Bravo.

Excerpt

“Beaux!” Even when I say her name, I’m cursing myself for it. “Beaux!” She just keeps walking, causing my better judgment to win out over my obstinacy.

“I said stay away . . . and it’s BJ to you.” She stops and turns around, but a passerby on the sidewalk bumps harshly against her shoulder. Her small frame sways from the contact, and I’m beside her in two strides.

“You can’t go that way unless you’re looking for trouble.” I decide to ignore her comment.

She just shakes her head and starts walking away from me, but at least she’s moving in the direction of the hotel. I swear I hear her mutter something about always looking for trouble, but I miss the rest of it when a car passes in between us, the sound drowning out her voice.

My feet kick up the dirt on the street as I try to catch up to her. I lie to myself that I want to talk to her to establish some kind of ground rules about how we’ll work together, try to restore a professional level, but I know I’m just making sure she gets back into the confines of the hotel safely.

The barely chilled air-conditioned lobby of the hotel meets us as we enter, but it feels like heaven in contrast to the stifling heat outside. If she knows I’m beside her, she doesn’t acknowledge it, and that’s fine with me. I just want to make sure she’s nice and tucked away in her room where I don’t have to worry about her for a bit while I try to drum up some leads.

The elevator car opens on cue as we approach. I step in right behind her, lean against the rear wall, and fold my arms across my chest to mimic her posture. The door closes, but neither of us moves in a game of chicken. Just when the doors start to open up again without the car ascending, Beaux steps forward and presses the button for the twelfth floor. She looks over to me and raises her eyebrows in question.

“My room, please. You remember where that is, right?” I angle my head, stare at her, and enjoy watching her cheeks flush with anger.

I wait for the snide comment to come, but she just turns and faces the doors of the elevator without pushing the button for the eighth floor. Tension is so thick in the car, you can all but see it.

“I don’t trust you,” I say evenly, but it cuts through the silence.

“Good,” she says matter-of-factly as the car alerts our arrival on the twelfth floor. “Be careful whom you trust—the devil was once an angel, you know.”

And with that she walks off the elevator without another word, her comment already replaying in my mind.

HIDDEN IMPACT

by Piper J. Drake

An aloof bodyguard and mercenary puts his heart on the line in HIDDEN IMPACT, the first book in the Safeguard series by Piper J. Drake.  Fans of Marie Force’s Fatal series or Laura Kaye’s Hard As It Gets, will love this brand new romantic suspense series.

Synopsis:

He’s not the hero she’s looking for…

As part of the elite Centurion Corporation team, military-veteran-turned-mercenary Gabriel Diaz is a natural defender. He’ll do anything to ensure a mission is successful. Anything but get emotionally invested—he learned the hard way that can be deadly. Easy bodyguard jobs in between the more challenging missions are all he’s interested in now.

Maylin Cheng is desperate and running out of time. Her younger sister has gone missing but no one seems to take her concern seriously. Her last hope lies in asking an aloof bodyguard for help. He dismisses her outright, but all that changes when she is almost killed in a not-so-accidental hit-and-run right before his eyes.

As Maylin leans on Gabriel, she begins to rely on him for more than just her safety. But as their attraction grows, so does the danger surrounding them. When the elaborate web they’re trapped in unravels, Gabriel will do anything to protect them. Even if that means putting his heart in the crosshairs.

Book one of the Safeguard series

My Review:

Hidden Impact is the first book in a new series from author Piper J. Drake and kicks off the series with a solid start.  Romantic suspense, with me, at times is a hit or miss.  This book was a definite hit!

Marlin’s sister is missing. having never gotten on a plane home to return from overseas.  She needs help, and fast.  She also needs the kind of help only a professional can give her and she’s sure was hell hoping Gabe could be that guy.  He dismissed her as soon as she approached him, but soon enough he will realize not only is Maylin’s site in danger, but also Maylin herself, and not one to leave a person in harm’s way, has no choice but to take on her cause.  He also has no choice but to acknowledge the attraction building between them.

It sure seems as though they were not only on a collision course with danger, but also with love…

For me, a good romantic suspense has an equal measure of heat, passion, suspense, and action.  Some books are too heavy on one or the other and it just kills it for me.  Hidden Impact was one of those great and perfect balances.

The mystery surrounding Maylin’s sister’s disappearance kept me glued to each page.  Dying to know what had happened to her, and why it seemed as though someone was also after Maylin.  There were more than a few attempts on Maylin’s life and she was lucky to have found Gabe and his team.  That’s not to say Gabe was thrilled about helping at first, and I also liked his no-nonsense, at times gruff, attitude.  He’s been through the ringer in the past and trust with him is hard to come by.  He wasn’t ready to jump in the minute he saw a damsel in distress and that was a tad refreshing to read. Also refreshing was Maylin.  She is one of the most unique heroine’s I’ve read. I loved that she had many layers to her personality.  She cooks, says what’s on her mind,  she’s inquisitive and determined, and I love her use of sayings and how she embraces her culture.  She’s fresh, entertaining, and loyal.  I just adored her!  Together, these two are smoking hot and have a fun back and forth relationship…of course that’s after they give into the delicious building attraction.

I also really enjoyed the characters who make up Gabe’s team.  I’m sure we will see more of the as the series moves forward and I can’t wait!

Whether you’re a long-term fan of the genre, or just getting into it, this is a book I know you’ll enjoy!  Thank you, Ms. Drake, for a fantastic read!

Excerpt:

“What you need to do is hear me out.” Steel edged her voice now, and maybe a bit of desperation.

It was the former, not the latter, that made him take a real look at her.

Her eyes caught him first. Deep emerald green. Shocking, actually, set in a delicate Asian face framed by a cascade of hair so black the lighting caught blue highlights. Her features were naturally beautiful, accented with a minimal amount of makeup. Very different from the majority of the people in attendance, regardless of gender.

Color leached from her face as she must have realized she had his full attention. But she didn’t back away or break eye contact. Good for her. Lesser men had balked when Gabe had stared them down.

“My little sister is missing.” The edge was gone from her words but the desperation was still there.

Anger washed away. Damn. “I’m sorry, miss. But the police are the people to contact.”

Political targets, reporters and prisoners of war were the kidnap victims private military might be contracted to locate and retrieve. The kind of people held for ransom in places so far off the radar, even sunlight might not find them. And those weren’t his team’s specialty.

The woman in front of him was a normal civilian. Willowy, slender. The thought of a little sister conjured up images of some tiny waiflike kid. He and his partners were heavy hitters, not the kind of people you sent in to do anything but cause strategic destruction. They went into hot spots overseas and did the things politicians didn’t admit to knowing about at these glitzy events, things a US uniform wouldn’t be doing. Delicate, gentle—the sort of handling a traumatized girl retrieved from a kidnapping situation would need—was not their forte.

The older sister shook her head. “I’ve spoken to the police and the US Embassy. No one will do anything, not yet. And by the time they believe something’s actually wrong, I might never find her.”

Missing persons cases were tough. She was right about the time crunch. There was only a short window before the abducted was more than likely dead. Considering what could have already happened, death might not be the worst thing either.

Definitely not going to add to what this woman was already imagining. Hopefully she didn’t know what could happen.

“You’d do better hiring a private investigator.” He drew his eyebrows together, tried not to let the urge to squirm under her very direct stare show. Damn. Give him vapid groupies and a clueless entourage and he had no problem staring them down. This woman, it was like she could see straight through him and know how much he didn’t want to cause a scene at this very moment. There was nothing good he could do for her.

Easy Melody by Kristen Proby….Blog Tour Stop & Review

ABOUT EASY MELODY:

Callie Mills never intended to return to New Orleans and the life she left behind more than a decade ago. There was no need to open old wounds when she had the life she’d worked hard for in Denver. But when she’s fired from her awesome job in Colorado and her father dies, she has no choice but to return home to run the derelict bar left to her in the heart of the French Quarter. Callie must not only face bad memories but turn The Odyssey into something she can be proud of.

And who better to help bring in crowds of people than Declan Boudreaux?

Declan is a sought-after musician who knows he’s good at what he does and loves doing it. Known to pack the house, he also loves women and doesn’t expect to be knocked back a step by the beautiful new owner of The Odyssey. Callie is sharp, gorgeous and funny, and makes him yearn for something he never has before… Commitment.

But when Callie’s able to turn the business around with renovations, making it one of the hottest bars in the Quarter, will she sell out and leave her past behind once and for all, or will Declan be able to convince her that’s she’s where she needed to be all along…in his arms.

My Review:

Easy Melody is the third installment in author Kristen Proby’s Boudreaux Series, a series I have loved since the very beginning.  This book was just as wonderful as the first two and I can’t get enough of this family and their love interests!

A whole lot has happened in Callie’s personal life in a short amount of time.  Her father died, she was left his bar in New Orleans, and now she has just been dumped both romantically and professionally by her long-term boyfriend.  Things just about sucked.  So when she returns to NOLA to figure out what to do to get this newly inherited bar running in the positive, the last thing she needed was any type of distraction.  Especially of the male musician variety.  Unfortunately all those intentions go right out the window when she sees Declan…

What starts out as a fling turns into something much more and it scares the hell out of both of them.  Can two people looking for anything but a commitment finally desire one?

One of the things I love about Ms. Proby’s writing is whenever I start one of her books, I know it’s going to be an effortless read and an enjoyable experience.  She writes with an ease that I know all readers enjoy, myself included.  I can always count on wonderful dialog and interesting characters, especially with the Boudreaux clan!  I loved Declan and Callie.  Callie is strong and determined but also has a soft side that I just adored. Declan is a charmer indeed and has an ease about him that I could eat up with a spoon.  And that accent? Swoon. Every time he calls Callie “sugar”, I melt! The heat and passion between them was delectable and there was a scene involving a piano that burned up the pages *fans self* mhhhmmmm!  I also love reading the interaction between the siblings and the partners who have joined in the family.  Coming from a large and close family myself, it’s always a joy to read their tight-knit group.

Once again, Ms. Proby delivers emotion, passion, and enjoyable characters from start to finish.  I can’t wait to read more of my favorite New Orleans family!
