YES! YES! YES! YES! Everyone needs Keri Lake and her brilliant books in their reading repertoire. There are no words out there to explain the awesomeness that is Keri and her books. Keri has once again, blown me away.

Intrepid is listed as a contemporary romance because it has the components of it, but for me it’s also along the lines of dark, suspenseful romance. And I love it! This is where Keri shines – she’s my go-to for this genre and what I compare a lot of other books to. This book isn’t nearly as gritty, raw and gruesome as some of her others, but it’s still just as damn good.

“I was already on God’s shit list, so why not sweeten the ride to hell?”

Ty is a paradox, an enigma that has you questioning some of his actions but at the same time, you totally understand his reasoning. He has this passion for danger and an allure that draws the women to him; plus he’s not too bad on the eyes either. He’s conflicted over Sera and does this push and pull with her that adds to the hype in this book.

Sera doesn’t fit the mold that everyone expects of her – your typical high-class, mousy little girl with Daddy Warbucks as her father. She’s hellraiser with her spitfire attitude. She’s seen the dark side too many times and it’s left marks on her – both emotional and physical. The walls she has put up she never intended for anyone to get through, that is until she finds herself reluctant to to stay away from Ty.

“Like light and dark, fire and water, the moon and the sun trying to come together. We didn’t mix.”

The attraction between Sera and Ty is off the charts even if isn’t the most healthy. It is real and raw and in their world, that’s the closest to honesty they’ve ever had. You find yourself understanding their need to ignite this small kindling into a firestorm because sometimes that best thing is the wrong thing.

Keri delivers another gritty and passionate story filled with scenes that will leave you questioning your sanity and others that will leave you breathless. There is no black and white in this world, there is only justice. And sometimes justice is delivered in the most horrific of ways.

Keri is a brilliant mastermind with her writing; her talent is unlike any other I have read before. Keri is the epitome of a dark and suspenseful romance author and Intrepid is just one of the many books that showcases her vivid and remarkable talent.

At the end of this book is a bonus scene featuring the characters from Ricochet, Aubree and Nick which I absolutely loved!!! So if you haven’t read that yet, go read it afterward this one and the come back and read the bonus content!

Yup – there is always one of us in the crowd and I am usually that one. :/ But bare with me and I will explain myself.

Ok, so I apparently missed the boat on this one. I see so many 5 stars with this book and I feel like I missed something. Or maybe it was just bad timing in reading this book for me. I was so looking forward to reading this book, that I think maybe too much time passed for me between the books and I lost the “oomph” I had from the last book.

I remember Closer so well and was super excited to start this one. But as I was reading this book, somewhere in between 25% and 50%, I felt the book go flat and lost the momentum I had going in. Teller and Ella started to annoy me with their tendencies and felt like they were moving nowhere – rinse, wash, repeat but just in different atmospheres. UGH

It was until the huge bomb was dropped that things sort of picked up for me, but at this point, I had almost DNF the book but refused to only because I enjoyed Closer so much and wanted to see where Teller and Ella ended up. Everything seemed to move at a better pace for me and these two stopped doing their dysfunctional dance and moved forward.

I have to say that Mary’s writing is unique and beautiful. It’s another reason why I stuck with this story. I think the time frame between these two books is what hurt me the most – not that I forgot anything that happened, but the intense feelings I felt after finishing Closer, were gone. 🙁

Mary does do a great job of keeping her characters as they are, but I felt there were portions that things were dragged out, which hurt the book for me. I love the dysfunction of Teller and Ella – that’s what makes this duet stand out from others. They aren’t cookie cutter and they stay true to themselves. That’s another reason why I continued on with this book. But it wasn’t enough to make me feel everything I felt in that first book.

Overall, I am sure if these two books are read back to back, I have no doubt they will be perfect and people will love them. For me, it was a letdown from book one and I hate that, I really do. But that won’t stop me from reading any other books by Mary. I truly believe this was just the case of it’s me, not the book. And truly, that sucks.

I have been a big fan of Amy’s since I read the book, Pointe of Breaking, with Sarah J Pepper and I have followed both authors religiously since then. So I was able to see the goofiness unwrapping with Amy finding herself continuously going to a tire shop to write and all craziness that happened because she kept returning. And that is how this book came to fruition.

Wait With me is a hilarious and very entertaining read. Some of the things that happen in this book did happen to Amy and I love that she intertwined those instances into this story. It made all the more realistic in ways. These characters felt real and their characteristics were honest.

Miles and Kate are two people who normally wouldn’t meet under different circumstances. Kate is struggling to find her writing mojo due to a recent break up. One day, she finds herself writing all the words while her car is getting worked on and comes back to find this tire shop is her place to go.

Miles is a mechanic at the tire shop and finds Kate slipping in and out of the Customer Care Center, not so stealthy she thinks. But it’s on the day that he is taking his non-smoking break that Kate tries pull off the whole stealth-mode approach but ends up walking straight into Miles.

And it’s from here that Amy takes us on this journey of comedy, romance and sexy times. There isn’t one thing that I did not love about this book. Miles and Kate were the best match and challenged one another. The whole story flowed extremely well and felt natural.

Thank you Amy for sharing what you thought were embarrassing moments in your life and turning them into one hell of great story!!

It all began when Daws went to Tires Tires Tires to get a new set of wheels on her car. She was suffering from writer’s block, but apparently the complimentary coffee and cookies cured her. So she decided to bring in cars of friends and family so she could keep writing in the magical waiting room.

Her social media musings had her fans in stitches and it wasn’t long before inspiration struck again. This time…Daws was to write a sexy romantic comedy about a romance novelist who sneaks into a tire shop and gets caught by a hot mechanic. You can imagine where the love story goes from here.

Eventually, the little tire shop opened their arms to Daws, even putting her release date on their marquee sign outside.

It wasn’t long before Buzzfeed got wind of it. Then Scary Mommy. Then InspireMore and several other blogs with followers well into the millions. WGN News in Chicago, Fox 10 in Phoenix and Canada Public Radio are all talking about the adorable feel good story of how inspiration can strike in the strangest of places.

Licks is the third book in an inner-connected series (Legs, Stub and Licks). Each one can definitely be read as a standalone and I have to say they each carry a different weight within the contemporary romance genre. Licks has more of the drama, angst and suspense in the story.

Licks is a two-plot story that was interesting to see play out. Gwen and August were friends growing up but when things got in the way that they couldn’t resolved properly because of being young and immature, they missed out on a lot of years til now.

Gwen and her friends, Ainsley and Rachel made a pact on their birthday (they share the same date) to fulfill a major goal in their life before their next birthday. Gwen’s just so happened to me finding out who her father is. But she now has less than 36hours to fulfill that goal and she is no closer now than before. And then in walks August.

August has not seen or spoken to Gwen since her birthday nine years ago. Some major shit went down that he was not able to get over. He quit college and went on to become a musician. He became a huge hit in Europe and moved there. But now he’s back to take care of some personal things and one them having to deal with Gwen. But it’s not what you think.

I have to say that I loved the overall plot line on this one. However, I think it was the delivery that has me not loving this one. I had an extremely hard time connecting to this one and feeling these characters. It’s not Kelly’s writing, but I felt that maybe there was too much inner monologue and that hurt the flow of things. I found myself skimming a lot because I got bored of what the character was thinking. But it did not keep me from moving forward – I never once wanted to stop. I had to know how everything turned out in the end.

Overall, it was just an ok read for me. It is told from both Gwen and August’ POVs so that definitely helped with the story too. I just missed the connection somewhere and felt something was missing. But just because this book didn’t work me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. I have read plenty of her other books and loved them. This was just an unfortunate miss for me.

I have to first say that I love when I read Lauren’s work, she never writes in one genre. One book will be hot and steamy and then the next one, sweet and loving. And I love that about Lauren. She writes what comes to her and she does it so well. ok – onto the story at hand.

Sparks Fly is one of Lauren’s more sweet and loving reads. But this story is so much more than that. Not only do I love this story as a romance. But I love the important meaning behind the story – helping others for the greater good. I cried in this book because of the humanitarian efforts mentioned. The selflessness of these characters is inspiring. Yes, they are fictional people but damn that make you want to get up and do something.

Sage is set to be the next King and he must choose his wife by his 25th birthday. There are certain rules an criteria that he must follow in choosing his bride to be. However, for the last few years of his life, he has been hidden away from the limelight and living his life his way. He does not agree with a lot of the traditions that he must follow and his marriage is just another aspect he does not like.

Everly is one of the four women Sage’s father has approved of as a suitable woman to become Sage’s future wife and Queen of Canterbury. However, she unlike the other three, wants nothing to do with marrying the young prince. She wants to follow her dreams and marry a man she loves, not just for the prestige and wealth.

“Nothing is what you think. You have to find the truth in everything. At the end, is where we will begin.”

This quote explains this book perfectly. I love how Lauren played Sage and Everly’s story out. It may be a whirlwind romance, but it’s not short of it’s suspense and turns. And as I said earlier, the selflessness of these two was so appeasing, it just made the story sweeter.

A light, enjoyable and sweet read from Lauren that I would recommend to anyone.

Did I like this book? Yes!! So much so that I took the time to reach out to the author to let her know I did! It is sooooooooo good. Brittany Anne truly took me on a journey of heart break, lust, hatred and love. It was so much fun to read Hooked On Me. I felt every emotion that Victoria felt, really, I did. I think that was why this book was so great.

Victoria was so young when she met Gabe Matthews. Not only was she young but he was such a screw up. He breaks her heart into a million pieces and does it in such a way that as a reader, I was screaming at Victoria to stop having feelings for him. However, like any great author, Brittany Anne made me fall in love with Gabe Matthews despite my hatred for him. I really just love the journey these two go on together. I love the roller coaster ride of emotions. I especially love that I could see how someone would fall in love with someone they thought they could not stand. It is really all about second chances and it was amazing!

I took this book and read it in two days, okay really two carpool lines and two nights. It was so hard for me to put down! This is one that I will for sure purchase to keep on my shelves at home and recommend for anyone in love with a great love story.

If you have not read a book by Meghan March yet, you have no idea what you are missing out on. This woman blows me away with each new book she comes out with.

This series is set in the same place as her previous series, good ol’ New Orleans. You don’t need to read any of her previous books to know start this series, but she will definitely taunt and tease with you previous characters that will make you want to go back and read their stories too.

Meghan holds nothing back with this book. It starts off with bang, continues through with the drama and sexiness and ends with our jaws smacking the floor. Not once is there any slow down and Meghan gives us just enough bread crumbs to keep us begging for more.

Temperance is the COO of Seven Sinners and thinks she’s going to meet a possible new client for their company. What she ends finding herself walking into, is nothing she ever anticipated but something she has been desperately looking for. This is also where she meets Mr. Mysterious.

I will not give anyway details in this book as this one of those books that even giving a small scruple of info will give away too much that the reader needs to discover as they read. I love these characters and this whole plot line and can’t wait for more!

Meghan delivers a perfect start to this new series and leaves us wanting the next book pronto!!

“That you, Temperance?”
My gaze searches the darkness, interrupted only by the Chinese lanterns and fairy lights hanging from the trees, until it lands on the red dragon emblazoned on the back of a black silk kimono, topped by a fluffy white head of hair.
Shit. My landlady.
“I’m so sorry to disturb you, Harriet. I’ll just—”
She spins around, spry for her advanced age. “Oh, girl, you’ve got sex hair. At least that makes one of us.”
I squeeze my eyes shut in humiliation. “I . . . uh . . . got—”
“Done up right by a real man, I’d say. About damn time, girl. I was starting to think you were a lost cause of all work and no play. Almost wondered if I’d have to find a new tenant to get some entertainment around here.”
I blink twice as she shuffles toward me, fluffy pink marabou slippers on her feet. “You were going to kick me out because I work too much?”
I knew my landlady was a little nutty, but I didn’t realize she was downright crazy.
“It would’ve been a last resort. I was going to send you a male stripper first. Girl, you need some fun in your life, and you do nothing but go between here and work. Boring as hell.”
Her point is finally sinking in, but part of me is still in shock. “I’m boring?”
“Of course you are. I swear, you go out of your way to stay that way too. But not tonight. Tonight, you look like you got dicked down by a real man.” She takes a seat at the outdoor patio table and reaches for a bottle of wine. “Here’s a glass. Now, sit down and consider part of your rent spilling the juicy details.”
Dumbstruck, I close the distance between us and take a seat at the table. “It’s nothing. I swear.”
“Girl, you’re practically walking bowlegged. I’ve been around the block plenty of times. You won’t shock me.”
I reach for the glass of wine and take a long drink. Good Lord, I needed this.
“I shouldn’t even be admitting what I did tonight.”
Harriet’s aged eyes practically light up as she grins. “Those are the best stories. Come now, I’ll take it to the grave.”
I squeeze my eyes shut. “I think I accidentally went to a sex club.”
Harriet’s wineglass clinks the metal of the table. “I knew this was going to be good. How do you accidentally go to a sex club?”
I tell her about the note that came to the office, and rushing to meet the appointment, assuming I was there to sell whiskey . . . and end with the part about running from the room.
Harriet claps with childlike excitement. “There’s hope for you yet, Temperance. When are you going back?”
I’m stunned at her reaction. I didn’t exactly expect her to judge, but I sure didn’t think she’d cheer me on.
“Never. I can’t. That’s not me. I’m not . . .”
“Interesting? Sexually adventurous? Up to be manhandled regularly by a real man?”
“I don’t even know his name!”
Harriet waves off my concern. “If I had a nickel for every man whose name I didn’t know, I’d be even richer than I am now. You can’t take life so seriously. You’ll never make it out alive. What to say? Where to start? I have sat here and stared at my screen for who knows how long trying to figure out what to say, how to say it and just explain the sheer jumbled mess of words and emotions rolling through me.

Romance for the most part is always predictable. Even when there is a lot of drama and angst thrown in, we have a pretty good idea of what the ending looks like, it’s just the journey getting there is unstable. With this book, this duet, you have no idea what the ending will be or how the characters got there.

“I hated them both.
But I loved them both, too.
And for that, I hated myself.”

The first book, I did not rate a 5 stars because I did not get the “HOLY SHIT” feeling. With this book, totally different. Kandi swept me into this story fully and held me in death grip til the end. She had me yelling at my kindle, strangling the poor electronic in frustration and just flat out crying at times. All that was mixed with adding confusion on who I truly felt deserved Charlie in the end.

“The best man for her isn’t even playing.
If he was, neither of us would stand a chance.”

And that was a huge twist for me. I was dead set on one man being the perfect match for Charlie – til this book. Kandi had me viewing both men with new eyes. In the end, the one I wanted Charlie to choose wasn’t who I wanted and to be honest, I don’t think either deserved her. But I am truly ok with who she ended up with; she chose the man that her heart could see past all his flaws. And for that very reason, I am ok with that decision.

“He was fucked up, just like all of us, but he loved Charlie fiercely.”

Everyone was far from innocent in this book and Kandi makes you see that. They all make their own choices and mistakes and have to live with them.

This duet is one that I think everyone should read. The first book didn’t make me feel that way, but this book changed all that. It is worth every damn tear, laugh and burst of anger.

I am really not sure there isn’t a genre out there that Rachel can’t write. I may have only read two of these books so far, but I love this series so much. It is hilarious!!

The Consequence of Rejection is Jason Caro and Maddy Summers’ story. Maddy walked away from Jason 10 years ago right after he proposed and never looked back. Jason has been trying to mend his broken heart ever since – was even engaged at one point. But has never been the same since high school when Maddy crushed his dreams and took his heart with her.

So you would think would be a sappy love story but let me tell you it is anything but that! Rachel made me love these characters. Jason has the had the worse luck lately and things don’t get any better when Maddy quietly returns to town. However, Jason’s friends are fed up with his hum drum attitude and want to try and change his luck now that Maddy has returned.

I won’t give you any details of what the boys have up theirs sleeves (really just Max), but you are in for some great belly laughs with this one. When the girls are whisked away for a spa weekend, Max recruits Reid and Colt to assist him in his idiotic, yet at times genius plan, to help Jason get over Maddy so he can move. Let’s just say that things are about to get really fun and enjoyable!

Rachel laid out a great story with some amazing characters. Not only do I love the main characters, but the secondary character are just as amazing and great. They all play an integral role in this one and just makes everything all come together. And Rachel really has me wanting to go back and read Max’s book now.

Another awesome story to add to this series. Great series with amazing characters. Each story will have you laughing so hard and wanting to know each of the other characters’ stories.

Felicity didn’t charge off to find Gabe. She needed to get her bearings first. Back in the day I’d be tempted to take a dip in the river myself. Gabe stopped at the farm for a rope. I understand he plans to go out to your swimming hole on the river. You kids used to have a blast out there. It’s a lovely spot. Still, it’s never a good idea to swim alone.”

The “farm” wasn’t a working farm these days, its old barn instead the offices for Sloan & Sons, a respected, busy construction company in town owned and run by Evelyn’s son and his wife and grandchildren. Gabe had worked for them through high school and until he dropped out of college.

Felicity started to say something about swimming holes, but Evelyn was already on her way up the street. “A rope,” she said, rolling up her window. “Leave it to Gabe.”

Felicity and Gabe’s story is simply sweet. The River House is an old school romance novel that will melt the hearts of those that have been reading romance for a long time. Neggers takes the “good” in romance writing and places it right into this book. The River House is not raunchy or all about hot sex but it is about love. It is a love story that will wrap you up and cuddle you like a good old blanket. It is truly sweet and romantic. It is a slow paced book and not rushed for all those who like to take their time reading. A great book to recommend to friends and family.

So this book took me by surprise. The blurb had me intrigued enough to take a chance on this author (she is new to me) and since I have love of paranormal reads, figured it would at least be something I enjoyed. I did not expect to really get so wrapped up in the story.

There are so many vampire books out there, that it is truly hard to find out that stands out from the rest. Cole has definitely done in her job in making this story unique and different from other stories I have read.

Charlie has had this inkling of wanting to escape her aunt’s little cabin for quite some time. They never venture much outside the woods and as a teenager dangling on the edge of adulthood, Charlie’s anxiety of seeing what else is an itch that needs scratched desperately. And Charlie does get her wish, just not in the way she expected.

“The veil that’s hidden a strange, darker world from what I know has only been pulled back a fraction. I’m not sure I’m ready for more.”

Charlie is taken on a journey she never intended to embark on. Sebastian, a vampire who is her captor, is also her only hope of finding her aunt and rescuing her. Sebastian has many questions and knows that Charlie is a key part of finding those answers.

We are thrown into a world where vampires have different species and have been battling for ages. A war is impending amongst them and as Charlie learns of these different species, she is grasping with her new knowledge and what this means for her. The readers are given a lot of interesting and entertaining facts, but we are left with more questions than we started with and an intense need to know what happens next.

Cole has definitely set up an intriguing world with great characters. The plot development is engaging and just when you think you know everything, she throws in another twist that has you second guessing everything you just thought. I love it!

I cannot wait for the next book to arrive to see what it is in store next for Charlie, Sebastian and Opal. Great start to what I feel will be a very enthralling series.
