Beautiful. Perfect. Dead.

In the peaceful seaside town of Cape Bonita, wicked secrets and lies are hidden just beneath the surface. But all it takes is one tragedy for them to be exposed.

The most popular girls in school are turning up dead, and Penelope Malone is terrified she’s next. All the victims so far have been linked to Penelope—and to a boy from her physics class. The one she’s never really noticed before, with the rumored dark past and a brooding stare that cuts right through her.

There’s something he isn’t telling her. But there’s something she’s not telling him, either.

Everyone has secrets, and theirs might get them killed.

Pretty Dead Girls wasn’t as nail biting as I was hoping it would be, but it was still a good read.

Monica definitely stays true to her roots of YA with this thriller and keeps the characters very real. I would have to say this is like Mean Girls meets Pretty Little Liars, having more of PLL vibe to it with the dramatics and mysterious thriller antidotes. But well held it back for me, was being able to “connect” to any of the characters.

The overall plot is what kept me interested in this story. I didn’t care for any of the characters, except Cass. He had me on my toes because he sort of comes out of nowhere and has connections to the girls who are slowly winding up dead. And now he’s seemingly interested in Penelope but staying secretive about his closed off about his “friendships” with Pen’s closest “Friends” who are being plucked off one by one.

I only deducted one star for the lack of character development because everything else was very enticing and made the book so intriguing that I wanted to figure out who the killer was. Monica gives us some bread crumbs to follow throughout the book and I surprisingly was right on my guess, but I have to admit they were not the only one on my radar of possible killers.

Overall, it’s a great mystery to read and follow. Just don’t expect to become too invested in the characters or really connecting to them. To be honest, I truly envisioned characters from the show, Pretty Little Liars, as the characters in this book just because I just couldn’t envision the characters written. 😕

Give it a go if you enjoy YA reads.

Used is KP’s debut novel. It’s one she has been writing on and off for years. And I am so glad that she released it to us to read.

This novel felt very real to me – not just the characters but the story itself. It’s unfortunately a life others have lived. We’ve all heard the stories on the news or through others but for a reason I can’t explain, KP’s book made it all more real and personal to me.

“Nine Steps.”

KP does a great job of giving us the details without laying all the gory details out for us. I know for some, they may want that more dark and twisted part to make the book more suspenseful, but it wasn’t needed. You can tell that Sabra has a very hard time talking and rehashing her past and that shows through the past reflections. And I think that’s why not having those descriptive details works with this book – the character can’t handle that and if KP were to go that deep into it Sabra’s memories, we would lose the true character of Sabra.

Trevor – oh that boy is a Saint. And I know any mom’s out there would love for their young sons to turn out to be just like Trevor. Sabra and Trevor started out as friends four years ago when she first arrived at college. Trevor has always wanted more, but respected Sabra and her reasons for not wanting to ruin what they had. Sabra has always expressed that she’s not a commitment type of gal and Trevor has seen that over the years. His loyalty to Sabra won me over immediately – even as a friend, he was there for her.

KP wrote a very real and personal story. Her characters and their story really helped in making this book feel more alive. While I know that those who love their psychological thrillers to be a bit darker, I think that KP still keeps the thrilling suspense alive with just the minute details she gives – it adds to the appeal of not knowing everything.

I hope KP continues to write as I would love to read another novel by her.

The Mount Trilogy concludes with Sinful Empire!

What’s mine, I keep, and that includes Keira Kilgore.

It’s no longer enough to have her in my debt. No longer enough to own her body.

I want something more.

She can try to resist, but I’ll never give her up.

Nothing will keep us apart.

Not her. Not my enemies. No one.

Her debt will only be paid one way—with her heart.

ALL THE STARS FOR THIS TRILOGY!!!

Let me start this off my saying this has got to be one of my favorite reads this year. Not the book, but the entire trilogy!!! This trilogy is the first I’ve read by Meghan and she has won me over big time!!

Sinful Empire is the conclusion to Mount and Keira’s story. And let me tell you, Meghan keeps on delivering the angst, drama and hotness in this book. There isn’t a slow down at any point, if anything, she ramps it up a bit in this one. I devoured this book as quickly as my busy life allowed me to.

The King has finally found his Queen, the one he was never looking for. But their road is definitely not an easy one. It’s riddled with bullets, lines being crossed and dead bodies.

“Revolution is not without bloodshed, and neither is vengeance.”

I won’t go into any of the details on what happens in this book. Just know that this book keeps the pace with the others with regards to the drama, suspense and hot as hell bedroom scenes – actually, I don’t think any of their sex scenes are even in the bedroom in this one; but they are damn hot ones! HA! Not only is the action hot and heavy there, but Meghan keeps us on our toes with everything happening around Mount and Keira.

Meghan does a magnificent job of keeping the flow with this one just as enticing and exciting as the previous ones. Yes, these two are finally getting their HEA, but as is their life, it’s not without problems. Meghan keeps her characters true to who they are and doesn’t change them just because their situations change.

I absolutely love that she doesn’t make Mount this pussyfoot man after realizing how much he feels for Keira. He’s still a man who stays in the shadows, a ruthless man who delivers pain to those who cross him and that doesn’t change just because Keira is in his life now. And Keira is a still fierce woman to reckon with and doesn’t become all mushy on Mount because things are building between them. She still pushes him and his men and doesn’t back down at all. She’s really starting to realize who she is and what power she holds.

Meghan stays true to the story line and her characters throughout the entire 3 books. And that’s what makes this trilogy even better. Yes, they finally get their HEA, yet everything is still the same. There isn’t one thing that I would change in this whole series/trilogy. I love it!!

I am looking forward to Savage Prince in the coming year!!

Standing “O” Meghan. 😉

Read an excerpt from THE BEAST WITHIN

Even still, the memory of Nika’s lips on mine burned me more than the acidic feeling of the sunlight as it had finally penetrated the window and seared my skin. Feeling her kiss again had lifted me in a way I’d never expected to be lifted. Our last goodbye kiss was soft, sweet, tender, but full of so much passion. But even it paled in comparison to the taste of her blood in my mouth. The memory wasn’t leaving me. That sensuous liquid had absorbed my every thought and desire. Her heartbeat raging in my ears had drowned out all reason. Clamping onto her neck had felt so natural to me, so right. I’d wanted nothing more than to tear through her skin and feel that burst of warmth course down my aching throat. Oddly enough, I had a feeling Nika would have let me bite her; I thought she’d even wanted me to. But I wouldn’t hurt her in that way, regardless of what the demon inside me wanted.

Once I was inside the lowest level, I breathed a sigh of relief. Shutting the soundproof doors meant shutting out Nika’s honey voice, a voice that plagued my dreams, made me ache in ways that reminded me that a man still lived inside this body of a monster. The way her dress had clung to her, the way my hands had felt running over her body, her warm breath washing over my face, the desire in her eyes, the fire in her kiss … I hadn’t expected her to undo me as quickly as she had. I was putty in her hands, and I’d nearly lost control. But I couldn’t afford to. I wouldn’t snap. Now, or ever. I would remain in full control of this lust. And that meant I had to stay away from Nika. She was too desirable to me. All I would bring her was pain. Or death. And I couldn’t handle either of those scenarios happening.

I would tell her. Tonight, I would tell her. We couldn’t be together, not like we were before. I needed her to stay away from me. I needed her to let me go. Please, Nika, let me go.

The Beast Within is 5th book in the Conversion series. However, you do need to read the 4th book to understand this book as everything continues on from that one; but it is not necessary to read books 1 through 3 to understand anything as books 4 and 5 are sort of “offspring” of those.

I was super excited to see where SC would take us in The Beast Within after reading The Next Generation. While I thoroughly enjoyed the overall story, I did find myself at times, skimming part of this book. It’s not that I found it boring, I just felt there were more details to minor things that I didn’t care for and skimmed those parts. LOL

The story is told from both Julian and Nika’s POVs like the previous book, but we also get Hunter’s POV in this one. I wish we would have had more of his POV than we got but there was still enough to understand everything. I felt Julian’s relationship with Arianna flowed decently into this book (there were a few times I felt it might be overbearing to the main story line though). But overall, it paired well with everything else going on and also helped readers see Julian in a better light and build his character too.

SC did a great job of giving us both the romance and the suspense in this book. I thought every fight scene was well played out and wasn’t too over or under written. And the sexy times were definitely amped up in this book and I felt fit perfectly into where things were headed with everyone. SC stayed true to her characters and their reactions on different scenes, which helped keep the story relevant and as real to life as you can get in a paranormal romance. LOL

Overall, it was a very enticing read and a great continuation of these two siblings. The book flowed well and kept me entranced the majority of the time. I am really hoping that SC gives a book next about Julian and what is to come for him.

Etern1ty by Erin Noelle…Blog Tour & Review

Exp1re (Book 1)

Numbers.
They complete me.
Nothing makes sense without them, the building blocks of logic.
A math teacher by day, a statistics doctorate student at night, my obsession to solve problems is constantly fed.
I’m exactly where I want to be in life, no unknown variables or unsolved formulas.
Until I meet her.
Lyra.
The woman beyond the numbers.
How can I stay away, when everything about her draws me in?
But how can I fall in love, when she won’t promise me eternity?

“Annie, wait,” I blurt, holding my hand up in the air. “We haven’t had a minute alone since I got home. I told you I needed to talk to you tonight.”
She ignores my protests and buries her face into my lower abdomen, trailing her freshly glossed lips down the thin line of hair that travels from my belly button and disappears beneath the flannel cotton of my pajama pants. “We have the rest of our lives to talk. I haven’t had you inside me in way too long, and I’m not waiting any longer.” Her teeth clasp around the waistband and she drags the pants down far enough to reveal my goods. She frowns at the sight of my flaccid, clearly unaroused shaft, and then glances up at me, her brow wrinkled with confusion. “You didn’t miss your fiancée?”
The way she says that word—the same way she’s said it all evening long, at every chance she could get—grates on my nerves for a reason I’m not even sure of. She hasn’t done anything wrong exactly, but she expects me to be the same man I was when I left here a couple of weeks ago—the man who was comfortable and content in his life and relationship, happy even.
I’m no longer that man. Not even close.
Meeting Lyra changed everything; my life’s formula completely flipped around. She’s the answer I didn’t know I was searching for. And now I’ve come home to a huge mess. But I couldn’t bear to devastate my mom. Not again.
And as far as Annie… I am enough of a gentleman not to embarrass her in front of all our friends, coworkers, and family members. I may have realized I don’t love her like I thought I did, and I know telling her that is going to cause enough pain; she surely doesn’t deserve to be humiliated on top of that.
“I did miss you,” I insist as I reach down and yank my pajamas back up over my hips, prompting the crease in her forehead to deepen, “but we need to talk. I have things I have to tell you about my trip.”
I pause to wet my cracking lips with a nervous swipe of my tongue. The movement draws her worried gaze away from mine and down to my mouth, and then she quickly crawls up the length of my body and kisses me. Her tongue plunges deep and determined, her chest pressed flush against mine. She smells like desperation and tastes like regret.
“Whatever happened while you were there,” she whispers against my lips in between kisses, “it’s okay. I understand. Just leave it there, in the past. We can focus on the future. With each other. Your wild oats have now been sown.”
Her mouth returns to mine as her hand wedges between our bodies and slips inside my waistband, fingers stroking my shaft feverishly, frantic for a reaction. My cock, the Judas bastard, responds despite my brain’s opposition. And that’s when I know what I have to do.

Great ending to an amazing duet. Why not 5 stars – because again, like the first book, I was hoping to have some sort of scientific element explored in this book, but alas, there was none. BUT, that is ok as the overall storyline was amazing.

Etern1ty is the conclusion to Exp1re and brings you write back into the thrill of things. We were left going “HOLY SHIT” and started off at “OH SHIT” as Lyra and Tavian are back home in their respective hometowns and needing to move forward in their lives.

There is a lot that these two go through. I was on the edge of my seat a lot during this book. I enjoyed how Erin allowed things to play out and how natural everything felt. Lyra and Tavian were truly meant for one another.

Again, my only gripe is the lack of sci-fi in this book. It’s hard ignore that part when it’s a big part of who they are. And yet neither felt compelled enough to find out the why or how behind. And that just baffles me.

But again, I loved the overall story. Just know that going into this duet, that there is no sci-fi part in this book except for the numbers. None, nada, nilch. It is straight romance with added suspense. But a great read none-the-less.

EXCERPT

If I was going to be honest with myself, I was discounting sex with the guy because of Henry Goddamn Lexington.
I desperately tried to shake him off. If I gave James a chance, something could develop between us and I wouldn’t give a rat’s ass that I weighed twice as much as he did. He obviously couldn’t care less, if the way he kept running his eyes over me when he thought I wasn’t looking was anything to go by.
“I was concentrating on my career for a while,” I finally replied. “But I need to start prioritizing my personal life too.”
“I get it.” He nodded. “After my divorce I realized how little time I’d prioritized my personal life. It was why my ex left me. I knew then I had to make some changes.”
“So … you didn’t want to get divorced?” I asked tentatively.
James shrugged. “I know it’s for the best now. But at the time, I was pretty wrecked by it.”
“Haven’t you ever considered trying a reconciliation with your ex?”
He frowned at me and I flushed, realizing what a stupid thing it was to say on a date. “Well … she started dating pretty quickly.”
“So she’s seeing someone.”
“No. They broke up a few months ago.”
“Maybe you should talk to her.”
“Okay, wait.” He held up a hand. “Are you counseling me to get back together with my ex on our first date?”
“It does sound like it,” a deep, familiar voice said from behind me.
I tensed.
No. Way.
James looked beyond my shoulder and not wanting to but drawn to, I half turned in the booth to find Henry sitting in the one directly behind me.
Our faces were so close it took me a second to recognize the anger burning in the back of his blue eyes. It was still there even as he flashed me a cocky grin and stood. “Mind if I join you?” he said, and sat down beside me, forcing me along the booth.
This was not happening!
How was this happening?
He was supposed to be in Panama or Seattle or something!
“Henry Lexington,” he held out his hand to James who shook it in bemusement. “A friend of Nadia’s.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“You too. Although to be honest, I’m surprised to meet you.” I could feel him looking at me but I stared straight ahead at James. I was beyond tense, bracing myself for what Henry was about to say or do. “I was under the impression Nadia was off the market.”
My jaw almost hit the table.
He did not just say that.
James looked between Henry and me. The smart man cottoned on extremely quickly. “Look, I don’t want to get in the middle of something.” He slid out of the booth and pulled out his wallet but Henry stopped him.
“Let me pay for your lunch. Compensation for a colossal waste of your time.”
The anger slipped out in his words and James paused. He looked at me. “Nadia, are you okay with this guy?”
I gave him a weak smile, grateful that he’d asked. “I’m sorry, James. Henry and I have a little unfinished business. I didn’t mean for you to get caught in the middle.”
“As long as you’re okay?”
I nodded and he pulled out money from his wallet and threw it on the table, despite Henry’s offer. “It was nice to meet you anyway.”
“You’re a gentleman,” I said as he walked away. And he was.
Why did I have to be attracted to the asshat beside me and not the one who was walking away?
I didn’t even have to look at Henry to be overwhelmed by him. He was so much bigger than me in the booth, his heat and anger pulsing as he pressed his knee against mine.
“Look at me,” he seethed.
Not wanting to be a coward, I finally did and winced at the awful look on his face. “Henry—”
“You can either play this out in public—and I can’t promise it won’t get loud—or you can get that sexy-as-fuck ass of yours out of this booth and into my car. Your choice.”
“That’s not much of a choice,” I snapped.
“Nadia …” he warned between gritted teeth.
With an exaggerated, exasperated sigh, I grabbed my purse and nudged him with my knee. He got out and despite his anger, he held out his hand, helping me up out of the booth. As soon as I was on my feet, his fingers curled tight around mine.
There was no hope of escape.

It’s been awhile since I have read Hero, but it did not take any time for the details of that book to come back to me. However, you did not read to Hero to understand any of the characters in this book. This can be easily read as a standalone.

If you read the blurb, you pretty much know what to expect in this book. So anything else I say, pretty much gives away the juicy details that you should read on your own. Samantha is always able to draw you into the story and feel what the characters are feeling and I love that so much. And this book is no different.

Villain is an enemies to lovers romance but this time it’s the guy chasing the girl. Nadia has a lot of trust issues and refuses to allow Henry to be the next man to undermine her. But Henry is determined to win her over and become more than just bed buddies. Nadia is one hell of a strong heroine and I love her tenacity to stay strong and true to herself and not giving in so easily.

Villain is definitely full of drama and at times felt it might become a bit cliché, but Samantha stays true to her form and delivered a great angsty romance with some humor added in and amazing characters. It’s definitely fast paced but a very fulfilling read.

Synopsis

I once loved a boy who grew into a man.
A man that promised me stability, loyalty, and a lifetime of security. I had it all—at least I thought so. Until mere minutes with someone else made me want for more. More than I already had. Forbidden wants that I shouldn’t wish for.

Cade Ryder was everything my Ivy League pedigree should have stayed away from. Every sane part of my existence screamed for me to keep my distance.
Distance from where he worked. Distance from him, his body, and his soul-searing eyes.

But the more I stayed away, the more our lives merged. Now my life—my normal—is unraveled. My heart, my hope, my new future all in the hands of a tall, tatted bartender.

I planned my forever with the perfect man. But sometimes the heart wants more than stability, more than security, more than what others want for you. One thing’s for sure—destiny can’t be planned.

Let me start out by saying I discovered Mia Kayla this year and instantly fell in love with her writing! Why? She writes love stories that you can see happening in everyday life, she writes them well, and she writes happy endings! Oh, I just adore you Mia Kayla! I adore Unraveled just as much!

Oh man, oh man! Let me tell you all what a hot and sexy romance this is! Cade Ryder is everything and more! Tattoos- check, hot-check, goes after what he wants-check, loves hard-check, and above all-down right sweet-check!!!!! I don’t want to forget about Angelica. If there is ever a girl you want to pick a better man for her-she is the one. Angelica is in a relationship that has gone stale and she is fighting to try to make it better. This is an example of how Mia Kayla takes a character and makes them so relatable. It is a love that a lot of us have experienced. The kind of love where you love a person but are not in love with them any longer. I love that Angelica takes control of her own life and goes for what she wants. That want my friends is Mr. Cade Ryder. These two together are amazing and sexy!!!! You will find yourself routing for them from the beginning.

I highly recommend this book. If you love romance stories with a happy ending but you are just not sure how a character will get theirs- this is the book for you! In fact, I love that it is part one in a series, The Ryder Boys, because the end left me wanting more of this couple and their family! Just amazing and beautiful to read!

Hunt Me Down by A.L. Jackson…Release Day Blitz & Review

Hunt Me Down

A stand-alone novella in A.L. Jackson’s brand-new Fight for Me series…

“I love this story. It was short, sweet and hot and felt like a full novel to me!” – Two Book Pushers
READ FOR FREE ON KINDLE UNLIMITED
Ahh, you guys! I’m thrilled to bring HUNT ME DOWN to you!! It was a blast writing this novella. It was originally a part of the GLAMOUR Anthology, and now is officially a part of the FIGHT FOR ME series of stand-alones. So go ahead, sink your teeth into something sexy and sweet.
Blurb:
Never underestimate a man who knows what he wants . . .
Broderick Wolfe is a man accustomed to getting what he wants. He will hunt it, fight for it, and make it his own.
Lillith Redd is a straight-laced attorney who’s dedicated her life to serving the people of her hometown of Gingham Lakes.
When Wolfe Industries sets its sights on leveling the old part of town and building a high-rise hotel in its place, Lillith steps up to go toe-to-toe to with its owner.
Little do either of them know, they’ve just met their match.
Hunt Me Down is a modern-day reboot of Little Red Riding Hood set in the world of A.L. Jackson’s bestselling FIGHT FOR ME series, originally a part of the Glamour Anthology and previously titled Red Hot Pursuit. This novella is a fun, flirty, uber sexy contemporary romance. The only fantasy happening here is in the bedroom. So hold on—you’re getting ready to sink your teeth into something hot and sweet.
Disclaimer: This book was originally titled Red Hot Pursuit in the Glamour anthology. It has not been changed or added to in any way. This novella does not need to be read before or after Show Me the Way and does not give away any spoilers for other Fight for Me novels.

Hunt Me Down is a sweet, sexy and sassy novella in Amy’s Fight For Me series. You do not need to read any of the others books to read this one. It’s actually a great book to wet your whistle if you are looking for a sneak peak at what you to expect from Amy and this series.

Broderick and Lilith have been battling each other over email for months. He’s trying to buy out the building that has been home to Lilith since she was a teenager. She’s determined to stop him from destroying the memories and building of the one woman who always stood by Lilith.

However, when Brody and Lily meet face to face, things get even more heated between the two. It’s the initial meeting that really throws things off-kilter and has them both thinking differently; Lilith isn’t sure what to expect from Brody and Brody becomes even more determined to not only get the building, but the girl too.

Hunt Me Down definitely takes on the theme of Little Red Riding Hood and Amy does a great job playing into that. It’s the perfect pairing that adds some hotness to this story. Brody and Lily were fun to read about it and I enjoyed their game of chase.

Definitely pick this one up!

Bodyguard by C.D. Reiss…Blog Tour & Review

Bodyguard, the highly anticipated new standalone from New York Times bestselling author CD Reiss is available NOW!

bodyguard front.jpg

Bodyguard by CD Reiss

Release Date: November 14th, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Protecting a celebrity in Hollywood isn’t easy, but protecting Emily could break his heart.

As a world-class dancer at the height of her career, Emily enjoys all the perks of fame—the parties, the glamour, the tours—but they’ve also attracted the attention of a dangerous ex-boyfriend hell-bent on getting her back.

Enter Carter Kincaid, a bodyguard so crushingly sexy he takes her breath away.

Carter’s the best in the business, and Emily is—professionally speaking—off-limits. But when it comes to stirring his desires, she’s making all the right moves. What’s happening between them is so hot it could get both of them burned. As Emily’s past gets closer, Carter is willing to break every rule of the job to save her. But letting Emily into his life also means letting her in on the secrets of his own past. For these two, falling in love could be the greatest risk of all.

So I am either really becoming super picky over what I am reading anymore or I am just finding books to be just ok for me lately. And that is not good, at all.

I did not read the first book in this series (you do not need to) but I did read her other previous release, King of Code, and I really enjoyed that book. But I found myself struggling to get into the Bodyguard. And I can’t pinpoint any one thing, I think it was a bunch of things for me.

The story line was nice. While I enjoyed the push and pull between Emily and Carter, it started to grate on my nerves at times. I enjoyed the tension and the chemistry between the two but the constant battle was drawn out for me.

I loved the single dad portion of this book. And what made it unique was the age of the child – he was a teenager. I just wished I saw more interactions between these two and I think that’s where I missed the connection on that.

Fist-bump. “Size of my heart.” – yea, this got me. Read the book and find out and what I mean.

Overall, is was just a nice read. Because it felt very slow to me, it took longer for me to get through because I felt no urgency to see what would happen or how things panned out. If you are a fan of CD Reiss, you will enjoy this book a lot.

Excerpt:

“Are we going to have another ‘about last night’ conversation?” I asked.

“If you want to.”

What did I want to say? Everything. but mostly, I wanted to tell him how much I liked kissing him and how conflicted I was. I wanted to demand answers immediately and give him space at the same time.

All the words tried to jump forward, but when he stopped at a light, our eyes met in the rearview. The words landed in a tangle, unsaid.

He tapped the steering wheel when he turned it, using both hands for the first time since I’d gotten in.

“Hey,” I said.

“Yeah?” He briefly looked at me in the mirror.

“What happened to your hand?”

“Burn.” he brushed his left hand over the bandage at the top of his palm, right where you’d burn it if you were picking up a hot pot handle. He caught my eye in the rearview again.

I didn’t know if I believed him.

“What were you cooking?”

“Breakfast.”

“And you still went to get a Danish?”

He rubbed his upper lip with his left hand and tapped the wheel with the bandaged one.

“I burned my eggs.”

Right. Hot pot. Burned hand. Smoke-filled kitchen.

“You know what’s funny?” I said.

The Three Stooges.”

“I don’t know anything about you. You could live in your mother’s basement.”

“That’s just where I bury the bodies.”

Blatant avoidance. It had been cute before; now it was getting on my nerves.

“Are you married?”

“No!”

He could have been lying, buy lying liars always lied. There wasn’t a thing I could do about that except make sure I asked.

Something was wrong. We’d kissed twice, and twice he’d shut down. I should have been the one shutting down. I was the one with all the ex-boyfriend baggage. Why was I the one who was always so willing?

But there he was in the front seat, driving with both hands on the wheel, glancing at me once in a while to make sure I wasn’t choking on my tongue in the back seat. Discomfort radiated out of him.

Here I was with my hands in my lap thinking about ways to kiss him again.

He pulled into the little lot and wedged into a space. He turned off the car, popped his seat belt, and stared at the wheel for a split second too long. I was about to open the car door myself when he turned all the way around, arm over the back of his seat, bandaged hand on the back of the passenger side.

“Kissing you…” He stopped and looked at my lips so intensely I folded them back and bit them. “You’re dangerous. I can’t even see your lips, but I can taste them. I couldn’t brush the taste of you out of my mouth this morning. Right now. The honey. I can taste it but not enough. I want to kiss you again, and I can’t. I lose my shit around you. I can’t do it. My job is control. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

My jaw loosened, and I let my lips go.

“No, I don’t. I’ve met bodyguards before. You’re a stoic bunch, but you’re not all celibate. And if you think this is easy for me, you’re wrong. I’m afraid too. I’m afraid you’re going to get hurt because of me. last night…” I put my fingertips to my lips as if that would keep the choking sob from coming. I kept it back. “Last night he showed me he’s back, and if he’ll hurt me, he’ll hurt you.”

If I thought seats would be a barrier between us, I was wrong. He launched himself between them and placed his lips on mine. Our third kiss was unexpected, uncomfortable with him stretched between front and back. I wove my fingers in his hair, giving him my mouth, and taking his.

I wanted that kiss to tell him it was all right. He could lose control. He could bemore than a protector. He was as safe with me as I was with him. But I couldn’t without lying to both of us.

He yanked his lips away.

“Trust me.” He leaned his forehead against mine.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

I am once again going to be in the minority on this book. While I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and was really looking forward to this book, I felt a bit let down on how things played out.

We got to know Noah a little bit from the previous two books so we knew he had a rough past with losing his wife and child. It’s been almost 10 years since they were both taken from him, but he hasn’t been able to let go of the guilt he’s carried. Plus the guilt of losing another woman in his life too.

When Noah and Kiki met, he was Kiki’s biggest supporter and encouraged her to live out her dreams. And these two just seemed to fit like a glove together. And then one decision that Noah made for the both of them, shattered not only Kiki’s heart, but her dreams too.

And now Noah has a chance to right his wrongs and prove to Kiki that he was only doing what he thought was best for everyone all those years ago. But over the years they have both changed and Kiki has truly hardened her heart and doesn’t trust so easily anymore.

I really enjoyed the story line on this one but felt that how it all played out, just felt unnatural to the characters. And the ending was totally rushed compared to how everything else played out in the book. We have this amazing build up to about 80% and then the crescendo and everything playing out and every body getting their HEA in the last 20%. I truly expected this book to end in a cliffhanger because of how everything was leading up to that point. I just felt that the characters really contradicted themselves with their actions between the beginning and end of the book. And that’s what has me walking away from the end of this book going “WTF. All that exciting build up and a really deflating ending. UGH”

Overall, it was just an ok read for me.

Time to heal.

Somehow, though, he never found the enthusiasm. Or maybe that was just an excuse. Another way of punishing himself for walking away from the woman he loved in favor of the woman he’d owed.

And since he’d never have either of them again, he needed to kick his own ass, pick up the pieces of his life, and start building something real. After all, there wasn’t a tech gadget he couldn’t design, build, or repair. So why was he so clueless when it came to his own damn life?

It was time, and it would be easy. Painless even, because God knew Evie embodied everything he admired in a woman. Strength. Intelligence. Ambition. Humor. Beauty. She was as desirable as Lyle had promised and obviously enthusiastic.

In other words, he was all out of excuses.

He stood up, intending to tell her to lead the way. But the words that came out of his mouth shocked them both. “I’m sorry, Evie,” he said. “You’ve been wonderful, but I have an early meeting, and I should probably get home.”

“Oh.” He’d surprised her as she was rising, and now she teetered awkwardly on her heels, as if his unexpected words would physically topple her.

He reached out a hand to steady her, and for the briefest moment, he considered pulling her close and fighting his way past his hesitation. She was everything he should want in a woman—with the unfortunately insurmountable problem that she wasn’t what he wanted at all. Or, rather, she wasn’t who he wanted.

Goddamn him.

Goddamn his stupid, unrealistic fantasies.

And while he was at it, goddamn Kiki, too.

He was being an idiot and unfair, and he knew it. An idiot, because he’d made his choice to walk away from Kiki long ago, and he knew damn well that he’d shattered her in the process. Even if he could have seen his way clear to look her up after all these years, he’d forfeited his right to come crawling back.

Unfair, because not ten minutes ago he’d been ready to take the plunge with Evie, and yet here he was, dodging and shifting like a damn coward, trying to swim up out of the deep black ocean of loss and pain. A familiar pain that wrapped him like a blanket, so cloying it was almost comfortable. And he knew damn well that there was only one way to fight it—he needed to take the girl to her room and try to fuck the darkness out of him.

The way he’d done with countless other women.

The way that never worked like it should. That only dulled the sharp edges of his pain, but added no light to the darkness.

That wasn’t what he wanted. Not anymore. One of the reasons he’d moved to Austin was to heal, after all. To heal, and to break bad habits.

Still, it was tempting, and it took more strength than he expected to shake his head again and say very gently, “I really am sorry. I’m not … ready.” She’d been polite enough not to mention the tragedy in his past, but he was certain that Lyle must have at least told her that he’d lost his wife and daughter. Hopefully, that softened the blow of rejection.

She’d regained her footing, and now she stepped back, her forehead creased as her eyes flicked over him, expertly assessing him as she would a witness. “It’s been almost nine years, I’m told.” The sharp edge of her voice sliced his heart. So much for softening the blow. “If you don’t get ready soon, I can’t help but think you’re going to end up sad and alone.”

With a thin, sympathetic smile, she turned and walked away, leaving him to watch her go and wonder at her perceptiveness. Because she was right.

He was going to end up sad and alone.

Hell, he already was.

Love on the Edge of Time, an all-new stand-alone story about a love too great to be bound by time, from Julie A. Richman is available NOW!

LOTEOT_Print_Web

Love on the Edge of Time by Julie A. Richman

Publishing Date: November 13th, 2017

He likes whiskey and wild women

She likes Ben & Jerry’s

He’s about to get kicked out of his own band

She ate her way off the Miss America pageant circuit

What could these two possibly have in common?

A psychiatrist

A lot of unresolved issues

A whole bunch of shared lifetimes

And a love that is never-ending

As bad boy rocker, Jesse Winslow, and former pageant queen, Kylie Martin, each fight the demons screwing up their lives, the one person who holds the key to healing their ills and reuniting two souls that have searched for one another, lifetime after lifetime, is the only one who knows the whole truth.

And keeping that truth from them may just be in preeminent psychiatrist Dr. Claire Stoddard’s best interests.

Claire has committed the ultimate sin in the medical world. She’s fallen for the one man she’s forbidden to love.

Her patient, Jesse Winslow.

And she’s not about to lose him to Kylie Martin… Again.

Julie, Julie, Julie. You never cease to amaze me with your story-telling abilities. And this book is just another example of your amazing mind and how you are so easily able to sweep readers off their feet and pull them into a story like no other.

I really have no idea how to start this review. Julie has truly outdone herself with this one. Can you two lives truly be destined to be together so much that their lives are entwined throughout history?? They are fated to find one another each time only to be separated for one reason or another?

And then when they have both hit rock bottom in their lives, one purposely sabotaging their life and the other just continues going on benders because it’s what he does. But now they both want to get a hold of their lives and fix their problems. Is it fate that leads them to the psychiatrist? And when their sessions have them reliving historical moments, it’s just crazy. That’s all I can say.

How Julie intertwined both Kylie and Jesse’s lives and then adding in Claire’s influence on them, I am in awe of her writing talent. There are so many twists and turns in this book, that you find yourself not wanting to put this book down. Learning the answers to everything, while some we may not like as much as others, it was just captivating to watch everything come together.

Please know that going into this book, it is not your typical romance story. It was one that transcends times in so many ways, that if will leave your reflecting on things.

Excerpt:

This time he didn’t text. He just called, waking her at two-fifteen a.m.

“Bare-ly dressed again tonight?”

Her laugh, filled with sleep was gruff. “Barely dressed every night.”

“What exactly do you have on?”

“A pink tank top and pink silk bikini.”

“Take them off,” he ordered.

“Excuse me,” there was an element of surprise in Kylie’s voice.

“You heard me. Take them off. Now.” Just hearing rustling on the other end of the line, he could feel his cock stiffen and it felt damn good after all this time. Baby, I’m back, he thought.

“We’re having phone sex? But, Jesse, we haven’t even kissed yet,” her protest was weak. And even she knew it.

“Yes, we’re having phone sex, and when I get back to New York, we’re going to do a lot more than kiss. You’ve friend-zoned me, Toots, and I’m busting out.”

Kylie was smiling on her end of the phone. Friend-zoned Jesse Fucking Winslow? Was he serious? “Nobody puts Jesse in a friend-zone,” she couldn’t help herself.

“Are they off?” He totally ignored her joke.

“Mmm-hmm.”

“What was that?” he asked, his voice gruff and serious.

“Yes, they’re off.”

“Okay, spread your legs, and with your phone, take a picture of your pussy for me.”

“Seriously?” She knew she was blushing in the dark.

“Take the picture, Kylie.”

“Okay, but if you sell this to the paparazzi, I will kill you.” There was a rustling sound, then, “Oh, my God, I can’t believe I’m doing this.”

He laughed.

“Okay, here it comes. I hope it’s photogenic. It would be really embarrassing to have a non-photogenic pussy.”

Pulling the phone from his ear to look, Kylie could hear his moan, exciting her even more.

“So photogenic, Toots, just like the rest of you. And I love the red landing strip. It’s so hot. Oh, man, I love this. Spread your legs wider and use one hand to spread your lips open for me and send me another.”

Following his directions, she did as he requested.

I must’ve been 5 or 6 when I started writing “stories”. I would write them and hide them.

Not wanting anyone to see my “secret” thoughts. I needed to write – even back then. Now I’m just not hiding them anymore. Is that a sign of maturity? Nah…

Writer, photographer, insatiable wanderluster, edge-player, foodie, music addict, pop culture fanatic, animal lover, warrior for the rights of people and planet, and avid cusser (am a Native New Yorker, so very little offends me…and if I am offended, it must be pretty freaking bad..like bad grammar!)
