I managed a bright smile that was so fake it was ridiculous to the other three standing there then turned on my heels and made my way to the French doors overlooking the gulf. Before I reached the exit, Eli moved in front of me and opened a door then stood back so I could go outside. There was the guy I remembered. The gentleman everyone loved. But as quickly as he appeared with the opening of the door, it was gone. No smile. No thank you for the rescue. Not even silent eye contact.

I slid off my heels and left them at the top of the stairs then headed down toward the sand below barefoot. The breeze was warm, so my arms weren’t chilled. Summer wasn’t officially here until the solstice, but in South Alabama, it had most definitely arrived.

The moon was full and walking beside Eli in the silence felt nice. There was no need to talk if he didn’t want to. We’d done that already. I hadn’t gotten him out here to talk anyway. I was tired of talking today. I’d done more than I usually did. Besides, Eli had little to say. No need to force him to speak.

The house was just a light in the distance when he finally spoke.

“Why did you do that?” he asked.

I lifted a shoulder to give a half shrug. Still no thank you. Not even the sound of gratitude. “You looked like you needed an escape.”

“I did,” he agreed.

“I was headed upstairs to escape myself. But I couldn’t ignore my hero mentality and let a poor guy get eaten alive by angry females.”

“Hmmm,” was his only response. What did that mean? And why did it have to sound so raspy and sexy? I should be annoyed by his lack of response. Not turned on by a deep husky rumble.

Back off Ophelia. Don’t go there. You already discussed this with yourself. He is off limits. Girl code unscripted or some shit. “I owe you one.” His voice and words surprising me. That was as close to a thank you I was going to get, but I’d take it. Besides if he was gushing over me and appreciative would I be as attracted to him? I knew that answer and I was going to pretend I didn’t. It made me sound shallow. I hated shallow. Needing to get out of my own head, I decided I’d do the small talk thing. Or attempt it with him.

“No, I think we are even now. I owed you one,” I told him. I felt his gaze on me then. Meeting that gaze was a stupid idea.

I was really worried that series was going to fall down the gutter after the last few reads. But I should have known K. Webster would reign that shit back in and set us back on track and truly give us what we want and need.

Gluttony truly lives up to the sin. God has never wanted for anything. He’s seen firsthand how easily money controls and that nothing is off limits. His father’s greed and gluttonous ways have filtered down to God and he tries his best to never become the man his father is. However, he knows that he has an obsessive personality so it’s hard to never binge on something since everything comes so easily for the Goddard family.

K. Webster does a great job of moving the plot along, having Gluttony/God perform his task as part of The Elite and still build a decent plot between God and Zemira. I truly enjoyed this book the most so far as it feels that it fleshed out well and kept things moving along.

Even though I did not care that the romance took the stronger stance in this one, it was the best fleshed out romance so far in the series. Zemira helps God understand and work out his issues, all the while understanding about The Elite and what they do. I could see how things developed between them so naturally and there wasn’t any extra outside drama.

Overall, I have to say that this the best book in the series so far. I am curious as to what the next two books will be about and how this all pans out in the end.

This society was birthed by Malcolm Benedict, II who wanted more for Americans. More wealth. More influence. More power. The predecessors of each group of seven choose people who fit the sin that will mold them into who they are needed to be in the future—what America needs them to be. This is after a detailed study of many potential candidates. The university’s acting dean behaves as a liaison for the society bringing the college applicants to the predecessors so that the selection may begin. The society members who are going out will bring forth a candidate that the society votes on and approves.

After they are chosen, the initiates are given a token and an invitation to initiation. The initiation will be a test to their character and ability to do what’s right for the betterment of the society. Once the initiates pass their test, they are discreetly branded with the mark of the society and are groomed through challenges during the course of their elite education to breed them into the influential people they were meant to be.

Once in The Elite Seven, there is no getting out. The money and power are their rewards. Should they choose to stray or break the rules, the society strips them of everything. Anything they once had will be removed. Opportunities will never arise. They will no longer have the support of the society. To this day, there have been no known occurrences of anyone from the society having to be banished. This elite group of people is what every young man and woman aspire to be a part of. While the group is a secret society, they are whispered about amongst the privileged folks in the country. Anyone who is anyone knows of the group and secretly hopes it’s their son or daughter who is selected, for good fortune is showered on the family for decades to come.

Forgiven is the second book in The Nash Brothers series. It’s Bowen and Lily’s story, which we got a glimpse of in the first book.

Bowen and Lily have a love that very few find – it’s a love that never stops, regardless of how much time has passed; regardless of how many hurt feelings have passed in between. For ten years, Lily and Bowen have been trying to move on with their lives but can’t get past what happened so many years ago.

Carrie sets this story up very well, but I was not in love with the reasoning behind the secret. I love that neither Bowen nor Lily ever deny their love for another (at least to themselves). Lily can’t move forward because she needs answers that Bowen refuses to give. Bowen can’t move forward because his heart belongs to Lily.

The story plays out nicely without a lot of drama. However, when a secret is held for ten years, I expected there to be a bit more drama and for the secret to be a bit more dire than it was. For me, this was the biggest let-down of the book. I loved getting to know Bowen an Lily a bit more and that there attraction wasn’t drug out. But I felt that the huge secret and how it all came out was equivalent to a deflating balloon – just meh.

Overall, it was good read but it didn’t give me the same vibes as the first book. I know a lot of people will love this one because there is no drama or angst and it’s truly a swoony romance. But when you lead the story with a huge secret that has taken ten years away from two people, I wanted there to be a more dramatic flare added in.

Definitely give the book a read – the characters are very likeable and I do love the small, home-town background these books are based around. I will definitely continue on with the series and see Carrie gives us with the twins, Fletcher and Forrest.

Thirty-two years old

Greyson’s assistant, Allison, finished giving me a tour of the house. “Okay, I think that’s everything. I’m going to head out now, but go ahead and make yourself comfortable. Get used to the property. Mr. East knows you’re here today, so don’t feel like you aren’t allowed to wander around a bit. If you need anything, my cell number is on the contact list in the book, or you can email me. If nothing comes up, I hope your first day goes well. Claire will be with you Monday to make sure the transition goes smoothly.”

I must have looked terrified because as Allison grabbed her coat and purse to leave, she gave me a light squeeze on the shoulder.

“You’re going to be fine, Eleanor. Mind over matter. You got this. Let’s touch base later in the week so I can check in on how things are going.”

“Sounds great. Thanks, Allison.”

After she left, I took a deep breath and flipped through a few pages in the binder. Then, I did a once-through of the house, familiarizing myself with whose room was where. There was something so unsettling about the quietness of Greyson’s home. It was so dark with an odd gloomy feeling attached to it, haunting almost. I didn’t mean dark as in the lighting situation, rather it was the energy level. There was such a heaviness in the space.

The place felt like a house, not a home.

If I hadn’t known any better, I wouldn’t have believed a family lived there at all.

It felt so abandoned, almost like a memory frozen in time.

That might’ve just been my own thoughts, thought, due to knowing about the tragedy that had taken place in the lives of the individuals who lived there. With the number of books I’d read, it wasn’t inaccurate to say my mind wandered toward the dramatics.

I walked back into the kitchen, flipping through the binder, completely taken aback by the girls’ schedules. Between school, swim lessons, karate, piano lessons, physical therapy, and grief counseling, I wasn’t sure how they found the time to live a little.

“Eleanor.”

I leaped out of my skin at the sound of my name and turned to see Greyson standing behind me with an empty glass in his hand. He was dressed in a suit and tie, which was so strange to me.

Who wore a suit and tie in their own home?

I hardly wore pants when I was home alone.

“Oh, Greyson, hi. Sorry I’m still here. Allison was just giving me a tour, and she said it was okay to look around a bit more.”

“She made me aware.”

Wow. He had responded immediately, unlike the first time I saw him. I called that progress.

I smiled at him, but he didn’t smile back, and that felt like the oddest thing in the world. The old Greyson had been full of smiles.

“It’s a beautiful home,” I stated, unsure what else to talk about. “It’s massive. I swear, it’s like ten times the size of my place.” He blankly stared my way as I shifted from foot to foot. “I love the décor,” I blurted out, and I hated myself the second the words left my lips. Just walk away, Eleanor. Don’t be awkward. “Those throw pillows in your living room are to die for. Where did you get them?”

“The interior designer chose everything,” he replied dryly.

“Oh, right, of course. My interior designer is normally the clearance section at T.J. Maxx,” I joked. “Or on special occasions, Target.”

He didn’t laugh, probably because I wasn’t funny.

I wondered when was the last time he’d laughed.

Did he ever find anything funny anymore?

We kept staring at one another in the most uncomfortable silence, though I didn’t feel as if I could pull myself away from it. I probably stared at him too long, but how could I not? I’d gone fifteen-some years without looking at him. It was understandable that I wouldn’t be able to turn away quickly.

The awkwardness of it all finally came to a halt when Greyson cleared his throat.

“Eleanor?”

“Yes?”

“I came for water.”

“Oh?” I stared at him like an idiot, wide-eyed like a deer in headlights, waiting for his next words. I stood still as if he were going to expand on his interest in water. Was he offering me a drink? Were we going to sip water and catch up on things? Was I finally going to be able to ask him how he’d become the CEO of his father’s company at such a young age? What had happened to his father?

His stare narrowed, and his lips turned down in a displeased fashion. He nodded once.

“Hmm?” I asked.

He nodded more aggressively this time, gesturing past me.

I glanced behind me and realized I was standing right in front of the refrigerator, blocking the water dispenser. I stepped to the side, mentally beating myself up.

Idiot.

“Oh, right, of course. Well, I think I’m done here, so I’ll see myself out,” I stated, scrambling to grab my binder. “Have a good afternoon.”

He didn’t reply, but that wasn’t shocking. I was quickly learning that this new Greyson didn’t have nearly as much to say as the old one.

While the characters from Eighty-One Nights are entirely new, their storyline is a combination of fresh material and carefully selected themes, scenes, and settings from The Beauty Series, The Sin Trilogy, Dear Agony, and Indulge. This is intentional. I chose some of my favorite elements from previous releases and interjected them into Hutch and Lou’s story. Let’s call it a “story fusion” between our old favorites and new material. This work was briefly released under a pen name and was titled The Girlfriend Experience.

He stops eating and looks at me. “I’d never degrade you by calling you a whore.”

“Not a whore. Your whore. There’s a difference.”

I can almost see the wheels turning in Hutch’s head. “You’re my whore?”

“Yes. Only yours.”

“My whore.” He grins. “I don’t think that I’m supposed to like that, but I do.”

“And I don’t think I’m supposed to like being your whore, but I do. Very much.”

He reaches out for my hand and brings it to his mouth, kissing it. “You never cease to amaze me.”

“Dirty talk. Never underestimate the power of it.”

I was a tad hesitant on how much I would enjoy this one. I love that Georgia was upfront with how she came about this idea but I still have some small reservations that it would be pulled off well. And boy was I wrong.

Do not go into this with any pretenses on what you have read before. I can assure you, whatever you are thinking, it’s not what happens in this book.

Max (Hutch) is a widow but his heart is not where one would think it is. Max is struggling to move forward in his life, but in ways no one can imagine. He holds a lot of secrets from everyone in his life and he has his reasons. But those secrets are also preventing him from being able to be himself in life.

Cait (Lou) is struggling to find a way for her last upcoming year in college. She’s found herself in a bit a pinch with money until her best friend lets her on in a little secret. A secret that will forever change Cait’s life – for better or worse.

Max and Cait meet in one of the most unusual ways but nothing about their lives is normal. So it’s only fitting that they meet this way. Their “girlfriend arrangement” meets both their needs and they follow the expectations set for one another. While Cait has her reservations on certain things, they both come to agreement that they both can agree upon.

I have to say – this story was so much more than I had expected. And I loved every for it. I love the interactions, the secondary characters, the nuances they learn about one another and the agreement to always say what they are thinking. And the sex in this book – WOW!! There was a lot more than I had anticipated but it definitely did not hurt the overall plot of this story. If anything, it only help serve the purpose and the deepening of the relations between Max and Cait.

Since this is a duet, I knew to expect a cliffy. While it’s definitely one I saw coming, I am still anxious to see what happens next. There are still some secrets that have not been spilt and some underlying problems that I am anxious to see play out.

Georgia Cates has definitely delivered on he promise of giving us a “story infusion” by blending the old with the new and giving us a story that we soon won’t forget.

“Because there’s nowhere else to look!” I rushed out before my stupid cock could get any ideas. “Look, waking up in the morning can be challenging for a guy.”

“I don’t need to get up for a coffee with… you know.” I motioned to my groin. “And see you half-clothed.”

I discovered Emma Hart not too long ago and I have been in love with her books ever since.

The Roommate Agreement is friends to lover trope, but I absolutely love Emma’s take on this one. It’s natural progression that you know is bound to happen, but it’s how it all plays out that makes this books so enjoyable.

Emma definitely knows how to blend the perfect amount of humor into a book and make it this perfect romantic comedy. The sarcasm, banter and overall vibe from this book is so tangible, it feels so life-like.

Shelby and Jay have been best friends for over 20 years. Jay is left needing a place to stay (naturally we all rely on our best friends) but his ability to actually adult, drives Shelby insane. So she creates The Roommate Agreement and idea stolen from her fave show (and mine), The Big Bang Theory. And things progress from there – but not in the way you make think.

The Roommate Agreement is very charming and hilarious with characters you can’t help but love. There isn’t a thing I would change about this book. Emma nails it all perfectly – I was laughing throughout the whole book, relating to the characters and just flat-out truly enjoying the hell out of this story.

Emma Hart does it again – delivers a story with the perfect blend of romance, quirkiness, amazing characters that you want to become your best friends.
