Excerpt:

Karl’s in the kitchen, making crepes. It amuses me how many of my friends are foodies and I manage to still ruin water when I attempt to boil pasta. “You mean, like hand-to-hand combat?”

I steal one of the broken crepes littering the counter next to the stove and shove it in my mouth. “Yesh.”

“I’m a Quake, Chloe, not a cage fighter.”

Rats. I guess—

“I have a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu,” Iolani says suddenly. She’s over at the refrigerator, pulling out a carton of grapefruit juice. She smiles winningly at Karl. “I am a Volcanic and a black belt. We ladies are quite badass, you know.”

Well now. This is quite convenient if I do say so myself. “Do you think you can show me some moves?”

“Let me check my schedule.” She pretends to pull a list out of her pocket. “Hmm . . . mm-hm. Yep.” The imaginary list is stuffed back in her jeans. “I suppose I have a little free time I can slot you into. But only a little, mind you. I’m quite busy down here.”

I toss one of the broken crepes at her; she giggles and easily dodges it.

“Yes, you’re so busy,” Karl drawls. “It must be so exhausting, watching all of your soap operas one after another. What will you do if you miss an episode? Will Joe ever tell Jane that he screwed her daughter? Will Bob ever let Mary know he had quintuplets with the nurse that woke him up from brain surgery?” A sly grin curves across his lips. “Inquiring minds must know!”

“It’s Marcel who cheated on Felicia with her daughter.” Iolani sticks out her tongue. “And Rudolpho and Estelle with the quintuplet problem. But my, my, Karl Graystone. Don’t you know these storylines just as well as I do? How very scandalous of you.”

I burst into laughter. “She’s got you there.”

He sighs, but he’s chuckling, too. “Moira is obsessed. It’s like osmosis. Even Em is more interested in watching them than her cartoons. And now Lani here is watching them day and night with the volume turned way up . . . it’s like I can’t escape.”

“I’ll tell you what, Graystone.” Iolani pulls a glass down from the cupboard and pours herself a drink. “How about you watch my eppies for me while I’m working with Chloe? That way, I can get all the deets from you and it will be like I haven’t missed a step.”

I crack up all over again at how he pretends to be so excited at this. “Can I? Really? We can debrief afterward!”

Iolani kisses her hand and pats her butt. “You know you want to know.”

“Whatever.” He turns to me. “Why the need to fight? You’re a Creator. I’m pretty sure you can best anyone without having to throw a punch.”

I hop up on the counter. “You’ve seen how the Elders tear me apart.”

Both eyebrows shoot up. “You want to physically fight Elders? Like . . . with your hands?” He shakes his head. “Chloe, I’ve been with you in several of those fights. You don’t need to land a punch. You have your bow, not to mention all you need to do is touch one and it’s gone.”

Synopsis:

Northern was supposed to be a fresh start—a place where people didn’t know who I was or how I had spent years in and out of mental institutes. People didn’t know about my parents death or the island no one heard of. But when Peter sits next to me in lit class, I can’t stop the memories, and I don’t want to. He looks too much like the boy from the island, and despite my best intentions, coaxes my secrets from me.

He’s gorgeous, irresistible, a little mad, and completely lost—we are a pair of broken cogs in a world neither of us truly fits into. He is somehow gentle and fierce, heartbreaking in his devotion and savage in his defense.

When Belle, his best friend, shows up, pale and lovely and sick, Peter pulls away from me, a startling withdrawal. It’s a relationship that scares and confuses me. She is at times warm and friendly, and other times is violent and unpredictable.

Peter says that he wants me, but refuses to let himself get close. And there are secrets, surrounding both of us, that border on nightmares. As the memories close in, as Belle gets sicker and more violent, I’m torn between what is true and what I believe, and what this magical boy knows about my mysterious past.

My review:

Girl Lost, from what I understand, is a modern-day take on Peter Pan. Now, I will totally admit that I have never actually read Peter Pan and haven’t seen the movie since I was a kid…which left me feeling a bit lacking after finishing this book. However, I still really enjoyed it and was kept interested from start to finish.

Gwen Barrie has been trying to come to terms with the horrific event that took her parents’ lives and left her adrift at sea for weeks…alone. They say the memories she has of the Boy and some island are complete fabrications of her mind. A coping mechanism to deal with the emotional trauma. It’s what lead her into the mental institution.  But Gwen can’t help but feel it was all very real. And now that she’s out of the institution and starting college, she is faced with the grown up version of her “imagined” Boy and the fear that maybe she really wasn’t insane after all. Maybe he was real and maybe he had come back for her. Of course, her brother, aunt, and psychiatrist disagree with her which means she should keep her distance from this possible manifestation of her imaginiary long-lost Boy. Easier said than done. Especially when he won’t take no for an answer and is beyond insistent that they become friends….which will most likely lead to more. And that’s what terrifies Gwen the most.

As I said earlier, I probably would have had more of a connection with Girl Lost if I had read Peter Pan but it was an interesting and suspense filled read nonetheless! Gwen pulled at my heartstrings from the very beginning and I wanted some sort of healing for her at the end. She was in this constant state of limbo in between the world of sanity and insanity. I felt awful that she was questioning her sanity at every turn. I was also fascinated with Peter and his remarkable likeness to the Boy she remembered from all those years ago. I was kept on the edge of my seat from the very start and was enthralled with Gwen’s tale. I won’t give too much else away because I don’t want to spoil anything for you guys!

All in all, Girl Lost was an interesting and fascinating read with plenty of twists and turns. Thank you, Nazarea, for another fabulous read!

Settling Ashes by Diana Gardin…ARC Review

Settling Ashes releases May 15

Settling ashes cover

Synopsis:

He broke her heart, she’s missing the largest piece of the puzzle…

Paige Hill is no stranger to physical pain, but the ache that plagues her heart is an entirely new kind of hurt. She left Rutherford to escape it, but did she make a huge mistake? Her ex-boyfriend Beau, who scooped up the broken pieces of Paige like he never got the chance in their past, doesn’t think so. He wants her to stay…

Clay Forbes can’t eat, can’t sleep, and can’t fight the murder charge that hangs like a guillotine over his head. None of it matters if Paige won’t forgive him. He’ll do anything to find her and bring her home.

But how safe will that home be when the two are finally reunited? It seems the death of Hannah Davis is definitely unfinished business in their small college town, and someone is still on a mission to keep Clay and Paige apart…this time forever.

My review:

Settling Ashes is the second book in author Diana Gardin’s The Ashes Series and one could say the second part of Paige and Clay’s story, picking up where Out of the Ashes left off.

With the betrayal of her boyfriend still fresh in her mind, Paige Hill has turned to her ex-boyfriend, Beau, to help her escape her college town and all of the pain and confusion that comes along with that once safe haven. She still couldn’t believe Clay had been caught in his ex’s bed especially after the torment the ex had caused Paige since she had started dating Clay. Making matters worse is that Clay’s ex had been murdered right after Clay spent the night there and he was the prime suspect. It was just too much for Paige to handle. Being back in Beau’s company felt safe and comforting and she needed that. If only Beau could see the situation for what it was and not a chance for them to get back together. Paige knows she has to go back and face Clay and resolve their issues whether it means they can work it out and stay together or go their separate ways isn’t exactly clear yet. And of course there’s the matter of the murder investigation. How much could one girl have to deal with in her lifetime?

Clay Forbes was certain of three things: he didn’t kill his ex or sleep with her and he needed to get Paige back. With Paige back, he could handle the investigation and all of the stress that came with it. But he needed her back. He needed to prove to her that he would never hurt her like that and that no two people had ever meant to be together as much as they are. When she shows back up at campus he had never felt more relieved. He wasn’t relieved, however, that she brought her ex back with her. He wasn’t stupid enough to think she had gotten back together with him, but he knew he had a fight on his hands. A fight for Paige and her heart…and his freedom. Deep down Clay knows it will all work out in the end and Paige would be by his side.

Between a murder investigation, battered trust, and high emotions, Clay and Paige have one hell of a rough road ahead of them. Will they find out who actually killed Clay’s ex? Will the love they’ve found be enough to ride out the storm?

I was so happy to get to the conclusion of Clay and Paige’s turmoil with this book. I had been so anxious since finishing the last book and was so worried for these two. Throw in the murder mystery and this book has it all. Clay is a man on a mission and he won’t go down without fighting for Paige. He knows it’s going to take a lot to get her just to sit down and listen to him and his side of the story but he also knows he’s innocent…of the murder and the infidelity. Now, if he could just get her to listen. Paige is such a strong character already and now to have to deal with this? Most gals would be running for the hills for good. But one of the things I love most about Paige is her ability to look at things at different angles and is open to talking and working things out. Thankfully, with the support system of friends they have, Clay and Paige are able to get through the rough waters and back to a good place. Of course, it still doesn’t help that there’s a murderer out there. Talk about a “whoa” moment when the killer is revealed! Never saw that coming a mile away! Oh, and the ending of this book? So freaking perfect! I was a giggling and crying mess! Loved it.

Thank you, Diana, for another amazing read!

FindingSerenity_CVR_Revised

Title: Finding Serenity

Series: Seeking Serenity series, Book #2

Author: Eden Butler

Genre: NA Contemporary Romance

Release Date: April 7, 2014

Tour Organized by: As the Pages Turn

Synopsis:

Mollie Malone’s mom skipped out on her. Her biker dad, always loose and easy with the law, still was able to make her feel loved, and to keep her safe. But thirteen years ago, when his luck finally ran out and he landed in prison, Mollie found herself a new family – a group of friends in the sleepy little college town of Cavanagh, Tennessee, where now they all attend the local university. These girls know about the rotten roots of her family tree but accept her anyway, and the bond between them is so strong and supportive that Mollie is finally able to see past graduation to a future that is bright and secure.

But sometimes the past doesn’t stay buried.

Suddenly, inexplicably, there’s a shadow behind every step Mollie takes. Someone is lurking in that shadow, threatening not only Mollie, but also the new family she has claimed for herself.

And it isn’t just the past that has Mollie’s life in upheaval. Hunky former Marine Vaughn Winchester – who Mollie really would like to get to know much better – thinks Mollie is just a kid; he’s made it clear she wouldn’t ever be able to understand the demons haunting him. But if that’s what he believes, then why does he keep sticking his nose in her business? And if he thinks she’s such a kid, why does he keep trying to kiss her?

Vaughn’s mind games are frustrating, especially since Mollie knows enough about secrets to be convinced that there’s something he isn’t telling her, something he’s so far been able to keep hidden. But when that secret is revealed, Mollie is forced into a situation that tests her loyalty and threatens even her closest friendships – just when the shadow of her past returns, and she’s going to need them the most.

My review:

Finding Serenity is the second book in author Eden Butler’s Seeking Serenity Series and after reading, well, more like devouring, the first in the series I was so excited to read Mollie and Vaughn’s story and I loved it. Loved, loved, loved it.

Mollie Malone didn’t have what you’d call a normal childhood. There were no white picket fences or tea parties with pretty dresses. She grew up in the hard biker lifestyle without her mother and a dad who taught her the importance of knowing how to fight and to be able to save yourself out of any situation. Other girls may have hated it, but not Mollie. She loved her life. Sure it had been hard at times but she wouldn’t trade it for anything. She loved her dad…which made him landing in prison really tough for her. Still Mollie wouldn’t trade her life for another’s. She had made three great friends that were like sisters to her. Of course it was one of these friends that led her to meet Vaughn. The king of mixed signals and former Marine who she couldn’t stop thinking about no matter how hard she tried. Just Mollie’s luck that things in her life and enemies of her father would start to surface and she would end up relying on Vaughn for help and protection. There was no way she could get him out of her head now. Not being in his company day in and day out. Man, she was so screwed…

Vaughn Winchester knows very well that he should be staying away from Mollie. He knows he shouldn’t even be entertaining the notion of having any kind of relationship with her other than to make sure she was safe. But damn if he can’t help himself. Wanting any kind of relationship only brings him back to his past and reminds him of all the reasons he doesn’t deserve a second chance at love. He would do well to remind himself of that. Easier said than done. Especially when his latest mission includes being glued to Mollie’s side 24 hours a day until the threats can be identified and eliminated. Man, he was so screwed….

Each with their own wounded pasts; Vaughn and Mollie are thrown together with tensions mounting and emotions high. Will they be able to realize they deserve a bit of happiness in this dark time? The bigger question is, will they realize they can find that happiness in each other.

Well, Eden has done it again. This book was freaking amazing from start to finish. Mollie Malone is one of the toughest and most real and honest characters I’ve read in quite some time. She’s had a pretty rough life but has always made the best of things. Sure, she doesn’t really have a sunny disposition but that’s what makes her real. She is not one to sugar coat things. She says it like it is and on more than one occasion during this book her words were so very touching to me. The world isn’t a nice place a lot of the time and no one knows it better than Mollie. She’s smart mouthed, witty, sarcastic and tough but she is also the true meaning of loyal and loves big when she decides a person is worthy of it. I adore that girl. Vaughn is her perfect match in the sense that he’s also seen and been through his own share of hellish situations and reading them broke my heart. I totally understood why he was closed off and why he wanted to deny his growing feelings for Mollie. He’s the ultimate protector and wants nothing more than to keep Mollie safe. Of course the sparks fly when Mollie doesn’t believe she needs any help keeping safe and oh my, those sparks are amazingly hot. The tension between them is palpable and the attraction is undeniable. It’s push and pull at it’s best with Mollie and Vaughn. Of course adding to all of this is the suspense of the unidentified threat to Mollie and trying to figure out who is responsible. Eden wrote that aspect of the story beautifully and we were really kept guessing through the entire book.

Add to that more than a few twists and turns along the way and Finding Serenity was the total package for me.

Oh, and getting to see the whole gang again was the icing on the cake! Declan, Autumn, Sayo and the rest of the crew are always there to support Mollie and each other.

I will be adding this book to my list of recommendations to anyone who asks me what they should read next and will be anxiously awaiting to see what Eden has in store next!

Heart in Wire by R.L. Griffin….Blog Tour Stop & Review

heart in wire cover

Synopsis:

This book has spoilers in it if you haven’t read the By A Thread series yet, you may not want to read the synopsis. This is a companion book to that series and I highly suggest reading it first.

Have you ever been involved in an epic love story where you wound up alone? Have you devoted yourself so completely to someone that you lost yourself in their abyss?

Patrick Greer spent the past five years revolving around El. He fought like hell to not feel the emotions for her that were hidden deep in his gut, until he couldn’t anymore. He was so sure of them, of her, of what they were to each other, until he wasn’t.

Patrick couldn’t even imagine the things he’d done for her, with her and to her. El broke him.

He was a liar, a friend, a lover, a fixer, a runner and a killer.

Now he had to figure out who he was without her.

*There are adult situations, tons of cussing and you may enjoy this book with an adult beverage.

My review:

(reviewer’s note: if you haven’t read the rest of the By A Thread series, I suggest you do in order to truly understand and get the feel for Heart in Wire)

Heart in Wire is book four in author R.L. Griffin’s By A Thread Series but I kind of feel like you could say it’s a different POV of book three, Seamless. I say that because this book is from Patrick’s point of view and takes place around the same time as Seamless did…sort of. I know I’m probably confusing the hell out of you! Either way, I adored this book and seeing things from Patrick’s view was just as heart wrenching as I imagined it would have been.

Patrick Greer’s life had revolved around one thing for the past few years: Stella. Not his job, not his friends, hell, not even his girlfriend. No, it was only Stella. To say their relationship was complicated would be understatement of the year. Maybe the decade. Their relationship put “complicated” to shame. He had done everything for her. He held her through the faked death of her fiancée, gotten her through her grief, picked her drunken self off of the floor too many times to count, and had even committed an unthinkable crime. All for her. And for a few days, he thought maybe, just maybe she loved him back the way he loved her. Turns out she didn’t. She loved him, just not in the way he wanted he to. The way he needed her to. Now, he was a mess and tangle of emotion and utterly confused as to what the hell he was supposed to do now. One thing was for certain; he had to leave. He had to get away from her and if it meant moving a few hours away and ignoring all phone calls and texts from her, then so be it. At some point you have to make the choice to save yourself. If he wasn’t what Stella wanted then he would go own without her. Which of course, was easier said than done. And so beings the story of Patrick and his journey of healing, accepting and moving on….

I fell in love with Patrick through this series but no more so than in Seamless. He was the ultimate good guy protector and was there for Stella through thick and thin. But when I noticed while reading that she clearly didn’t feel the same way for him that he felt for her, I knew he was headed for his own personal hell. And that’s where he ends up in Heart in Wire. Damn, this man killed me. I wanted to hug him and assure him that he would one day be able to move on and find the love that he was so worthy of and deserved whole heartedly. To read things from his POV was an experience I won’t soon forget. I was so torn in wanted Stella to just run away with him, knowing after reading Seamless that it wouldn’t end that way, and wanting him to find a gal who loved him and cherished the big-hearted protector he was. I have a saying that I use often: face it, embrace it and erase it. I wanted to tell Patrick to do just that. He is trying his damnedest to cut the ties that bind him to Stella and be ok with himself without her…and it’s a rough road. But luckily there’s alight at the end of this wretched tunnel for Patrick. I won’t spoil anything for you but I will tell you that the very end of this book had me sobbing my eyeballs out and tweeting poor R.L. and thanking her for where Patrick’s journey takes him.

If you haven’t read this series, I urge to you get started and meet Patrick and the rest of the gang. This is one of those series that I will always look forward to new releases from. Thank you, R.L., for another amazing addition to the By A Thread series (and for dealing with my Patrick tweets!)

Excerpt:

She was naked, standing right outside the shower, and glared at him, incredulous. He could tell she wasn’t used to getting turned down, but she was nothing he was attracted to.  He knew why he picked her though, she was dumb, blonde, and tan, everything opposite of El.  He would stick his dick in random females until he rid himself of the heaven he felt when he’d been inside her.  He’d do whatever he needed to do to get through this bitch shit he was going through.  Hell, he’d rather grieve over killing his friend than continue to mourn a woman who’d been such a big part of his life, only to find out he wasn’t a part of hers.

“Fucking asshole,” he heard Blondie growl as she was leaving the bathroom.

Billy’s words rang through his head as he let the scalding water run down his back. “You’re holding her hand because you want to; she’s holding yours because she needs to.”

Patrick would never let himself be in that situation again. El had been calling him and leaving messages for months, but he refused to listen to any of them.  He felt like if he listened, even to just one, he’d fall back into the abyss that was Stella Murphy. Her existence tightened the barbed wire around his heart. He needed someone with wire cutters to come along and rescue him, but it definitely wasn’t a blonde bimbo.

Synopsis:

Olivia Beckett’s once-charmed life is falling apart. Her family is about to lose everything, and she has almost no chance of continuing her college education. She can’t even seek solace from her high school sweetheart. He’s changed. She doesn’t recognize the boy she used to know— his violent behavior is escalating and it scares the hell out of her. Her whole world is crumbling, and she has no one to turn to……

Sebastian “Bash” McDaniels is an up and comer in the boxing world working nights at the local college bar until he can land the fight of his dreams that will get him the hell out of Boston and away from his family’s tragic past. He’s weeks from his goal when Olivia Beckett comes tumbling into his life in a flash of silky dark hair and haunted eyes. When he saves her from a potentially brutal beating, they begin to grow close, but Olivia’s ex isn’t ready to let her go so easily.

Bash can’t bring himself to walk away, but fixing Olivia just might leave him broken…

My review:

Fix You is the first book in author Christine Bell’s Bash and Olivia\McDaniel’s Brothers Series and I will warn you, has a bit of a cliff hanger ending.  Now, I don’t mind those type of endings and even if you do, I totally say read this book anyway…it was THAT good! (and the second book comes out soon)

College student Olivia Beckett has entirely too much weight on her shoulders.  Her family is going through a major rough patch and is losing all financial stability and she’s starting to realize her boyfriend since high school is turning into someone she doesn’t want to be with.  His temper is getting out of hand and the excuses she’s been making for him come to an end when she is saved from a violent situation in a bar bathroom.  As embarrassing as that was, it was the turning point she needed.  There were no more excuses to be made for his behavior and her bartender in shining armor savior, Bash, is just what she needs to help her through this.  But adding insult to injury, Bash loses his job over saving her.  He insists it was just a job to tide him over until he gets in the ring, but she knows better.  Seizing the opportunity, Olivia decides Bash is the perfect teacher for the self-defense lessons she fears she will need when she breaks things off with her boyfriend.  Hopefully it will also help ease her guilt over getting him fired…the bigger question is, will is ease her wicked strong attraction to the gorgeous boxer?

Sebastian McDaniels, aka Bash, does not need this kind of distraction or complication in his life right now.  He just needs to keep his focus on training and getting ready for his fights.  He does not need to be involved in a clearly effed up relationship between some douchebag college kid and his girlfriend.  Nope.  Too bad there’s no way he could ever allow a girl to be hurt by a guy.  Especially someone as beautiful as Olivia.  Now he’s lost his job, thanks to his heroics, and she shows up asking for self-defense lessons.  He wouldn’t be any better than her ass of a boyfriend if he turned her away and didn’t help her again.  Now, if he can just convince himself that as soon as the lessons are over, he will be able to let her go….

What starts out as two people thrown into a situation by chance turns into a sizzling hot and undeniable attraction that will prove too strong to ignore.  But with so many forces working against them, will they be able to make things between them work?  Or will Olivia’s ex turn out to be more dangerous than just in the physical sense?

Oh man, I loved this book.  Again, I will say that it has a kinda cliffy ending but please don’t let that turn you away from Bash.  He is too delicious to ignore.  He’s the strong, silent type that comes from the wrong side of the tracks but has a true moral compass and could never let a man hurt a woman.  His hard edged looks are at odds with his soft heart and who doesn’t love that?! The bad boy boxer with a soft side is always a win for me and Bash was all that and a bag of chips.  Olivia is in a pretty tough spot and I feel for her.  She’s starting to realize her “boyfriend” isn’t who she thought he was and is changing right before her eyes.  But she’s decided to get rid of him and knows it may become dangerous so she’s trying her best to prepare for the worst.  I’m worried for her but knowing that she has forged a friendship with Bash comforts me a bit.  I say a bit because something happens at the end and Olivia may be on her own for a little while, without Bash, and the boyfriend is mighty pissed.  But the spark between Olivia and Bash can’t be denied and they are positively delectable together! (so HA to you, loser boyfriend!)

I cannot wait for the next installment in Bash and Olivia’s story and will be anxiously awaiting its release!  Thank you, Christine, for one hell of a story!

Synopsis:

He’s the last thing she wants…but the only thing she needs.

Willa Peet isn’t interested in love. She’s been there, done that, and has the shattered heart to prove it. Ready to shake the breakup, she heads to Dublin, Ireland. But there’s a problem. A dark-haired, blue-eyed problem with a bad attitude that rivals her own. And he’s not doling out friendly Irish welcomes.

Shane Claymore just wants to race. The death of his father forced him off the Formula One circuit, but he’s only staying in Dublin long enough to sell the Claymore Inn and get things in order for his mother and younger sister. He never expected the sarcastic American girl staying at the inn to make him question everything.

But even as Willa and Shane’s fiery natures draw them together, their pasts threaten to rip them apart. Can Shane give up racing to be with the woman he loves, or will Willa’s quest to resurrect the tough-talking, no-shit-taking girl she used to be destroy any hope of a future together?

My Review:

Unfixable is the newest work from author Tessa Bailey and is Willa’s story. I had been dying for Willa’s story since we first met her in Protecting What’s His and it was so worth the wait. This book, in true Tessa fashion, blew me away.

To say Willa Peet has given up on love and happy endings would be a gross understatement. Willa had a childhood made up the complete opposite of gumdrops and rainbows. Her mother was a junkie prostitute, bringing home unsavory men and constantly putting her and her sister Ginger at risk of the dangers that come with the underbelly of society. The only person she could ever rely on was Ginger and when Ginger got her happy ending, Willa couldn’t be happier. That still didn’t mean she believed in all that love and happiness for herself. She’d given it the old college try recently with a nice guy who was good to her and said he loved her but in the end she only proved herself right: she wasn’t meant for love. Life and the baggage that came with it was just too much recently and she needed to take a step back and get away. The perfect opportunity arises when she wins a photography contest and an all expense paid trip to Ireland for a month. Ever since Ginger bought her a camera when she was little, it was the one escape she had. The one thing she truly felt at peace doing. And now it had given her a chance to escape. Escape her inner turmoil, her too familiar town, her personal chains, her ex-boyfriend. Ironic that the minute she lands in Ireland she will meet a ruggedly handsome, dark-haired, blue-eyed, ornery Irishman whose family just happens to own the inn she’s staying at. He gets under her skin immediately and she’s scared to death that it may not exactly be in a bad way.

Shane Claymore begrudgingly spends his day running his family’s inn and is counting down the minutes until he can get out of there and return to what he loves. Racing. He was between a rock and a hard place at the moment and was pissed as all hell about his situation. He had left his family, thanks in part to his disapproving father, and never wanted to see the insides of this inn again. Yet here he was. Since his father had died he had been back at the inn helping his mother and sister run the place but he was itching to get back on the track….and just biding his time until he was behind the wheel again. So here he is, at the airport, waiting for some contest winner to take her back to the inn where his family would host her for the next month. Almost immediately thought he realizes he’s in trouble. He never counted on the smart mouthed, understatedly beautiful girl who walked off the plane. And he sure as hell didn’t count on being attracted to her.

You know what they say about finding love when you least expect it, right? Willa and Shane both have zero desire to get attached…. especially not to each other. But the undeniable attraction and chemistry will win out in the end. The questions that will remain are: will a month be enough time to scratch the itch? With both Willa and Shane having plans to move on with their lives after the visit ruin what they’ve found?

So, you may know that I’m a huge Tessa Bailey fan. I love all of her Line of Duty books and I was so sad to see that series end, but also excited for Tessa to write something different and new. Willa’s book was just that…different and new. Willa is a complicated gal and when we first met her I knew she was going to be an amazing character. And she truly is. She has every right to feel the way she does about flowery love and colorful happiness. It’s also just not who she is. She’s a heroine that doesn’t do girly crushes, writing doodles with hearts and “Mrs. Willa (insert guy crush last name)” and I totally love her for that. I can relate to that. I knew there would be someone out there who would love her for being that way. For being her. And oh my, was Shane the freaking perfect match! He’s almost like the guy version of her. He’s been hurt before and gets the whole messed up family thing. He also calls Willa out when she needs it and that’s what I loved most about him. He made her face things she wouldn’t have otherwise and made her admit there was something between them. And what they have between them is a combustible spark that heats up hotter and hotter every scene. Damn, Tessa can write some chemistry! I will admit I was worrying that things wouldn’t work out for them because, let’s face it, their time came with an expiration date. But don’t you worry. If there’s another thing Tessa does so freaking well it’s write some killer endings. This ending? Had me crying, laughing, palms sweating, reading wide-eyed, nervous, and ultimately so freaking happy. It stands out in my mind as one of the best book endings I’ve ever read….and I’ve read a whole lot of book endings.

I will always recommend Tessa’s work and Unfixable is now the newest member of my rec list. Thank you, Tessa, for continuing to give us amazing stories with tremendous characters. You freaking rock, girl!
