“Noah, are you down here?” Kristina called from the top of the basement steps.

Despite the lack of response, she continued down and crossed the room to the mostly closed door in the back corner–Noah’s bedroom since he’d returned just before last Christmas. God, Kristina had thought she’d received the best Christmas present ever–Noah, home from Iraq, safe and sound.

Well, mostly sound, anyway. An IED blast had taken the hearing and most of his vision on his left side, and he’d struggled with bad migraines and equilibrium problems when he’d first returned. But he was home and he was alive, and having him back again had made it feel like she could finally breathe after years of knowing he was in danger every second of every day.

She knocked softly. “Hey Noah, it’s me.”

All she heard was a long exhale of breath, but it was enough.

Why hadn’t he answered her? Her stomach clenched as she pushed open the door far enough to see Noah standing in the dark doorway to his bathroom, his back against the door jamb, his arms crossed, and his head hanging on his big shoulders.

She didn’t need to ask if he was okay, because he was radiating not okay loud and clear. Kristina walked right up to him. “What’s going on?” she asked. Dim light from the rec room filtered over him, allowing her to just make out the tight clench of his square jaw, the narrowed cast of his dark brown eyes, the harsh set of his beautiful mouth.

Wait. What? Where had that little observation come from?

Noah shook his head, forcing Kristina to drop the ridiculous line of thought.

She stepped closer so that she could look more directly into his eyes. “Come on, Noah. It’s me.” She ached for him to open up, but what she noticed even more was the low buzz rushing through her body. From how close she stood to all his taut hardness. It wasn’t like she was just noticing that Noah was hot, like, dayum hot, but nearly five years in the Marines had matured him and built hard muscle that hadn’t been there before. And clearly her body was just noticing, probably because they hadn’t had the chance to spend much time together since he’d gotten back.

“Kristina,” he said, his voice so low it was nearly a whisper, or a plea. He leaned his forehead against hers. It was such a sweet, needful gesture that Kristina’s chest seized.

“First, I’m hugging you. Then we’re talking, buddy,” she said, wrapping her arms around his big shoulders and planting her cheek against his chest. The embrace wasn’t unusual-they’d always been affectionate with each other. She’d lay against him while they watched a movie or he’d sling an arm over her shoulders while they were out together. When things were bad with her dad, he’d hold her when she finally gave into her grief about it and cried. That’s how they’d always been.

He embraced her right back and leaned his face against her hair.

After a long moment, Kristina pulled away–

Noah wouldn’t let her go. His grip on her tightened, and he held her fast against him. Was he breathing faster? Was he trembling?

Against her belly, he hardened.

Kristina’s breath caught in her throat. Noah was aroused…by her? Or just, like, in her general vicinity? Or…? She swallowed hard as her thoughts flew.

As they stood there, suspended in the dark, stolen moment, the air around them flashed hot and closed in, narrowing the world to all the places their bodies touched. His erection grew, pressing against her with more insistence. Heat bloomed over her skin everywhere and she held herself perfectly still. Because this was different. This was not friendly. This was more.

A strange tension wrapped around them, and it scared and attracted Kristina in equal measure. She shuddered out a breath as her body came to life against his. Her breathing quickened, her nipples peaked, her core clenched.

Noah made a noise in the back of his throat like a moan, and his arms tightened around her, pulling their bodies totally flush.

Kristina’s breath caught at the hard press of his body and at the shocking arousal it unleashed in her.

But it didn’t seem to matter to her body. The soft cotton of her dress became heavy and irritating against her skin, and all she wanted was for it to be off. So he could be all over her. This sudden, intoxicating need was brand new to her-in general and certainly with Noah. She wasn’t a virgin, but she’d never felt with another man the kind of desire rocketing through her just then. And all they’d done was touch.

Why was this happening?

Her hips shifted without her meaning to do it, and it made her belly grind against all that hardness.

Noah hissed in her ear. His fingertips dug into her back…and then wandered, one hand pressing low against her hip, one skimming up her neck into her hair. Holding her tight. Bringing her closer.

She was half sure she was imagining that they were locked inside this raging bubble of attraction, except that his heart thundered beneath where her head rested, his breathing had gone rough, and his skin felt every bit as feverish as hers.

She had to stop this…whatever this was.

Tilting her head back, the words were on the tip of her tongue. Her eyes locked with his, and even in the dimness she could see that they were blazing hot and almost predatory in their directness. It stole her capacity to speak, because she was unequivocally sure he’d never looked at her like that. Need roared off of him and through her, making her heart beat like a bass drum.

Kristina swallowed hard. What would she do if he kissed her? One kissing experiment aside, she’d never had to ask that in regard to him. Another question followed close behind: what would she do if he didn’t?

A sexy, sultry, familiar chuckle fills my speakers and I almost wreck my car. Lilith? What the hell?

“Big D, I was busy,” she smarts off.

“Busy with what? Your hair is dripping wet and you don’t have any makeup on. And wait…is that a hickey?” Big D says, clearly amused.

She plays it off with a chuckle. “You say hickey, I say Tinderbite.”

I growl as I think about those fuckers who came on my property looking for her.

“Tinderbite?” Big D questions. “Do I even want to know what that means?”

“It means…” she trails off. “Whatever. Don’t judge, D. Like you haven’t ever been late. Everyone is late. It’s Monday, for crying out loud. I bet half our listeners are late and sitting in traffic on the 295.”

I crawl to a halt, indeed stuck in traffic on the 295.

She continues, “In fact, let’s take some calls. What excuse are you giving your boss this morning for why you were late? Does it beat ‘I-was-trying-to-cover-my-Tinderbite-with-foundation-and-failed-miserably?’”

Big D chuckles. “Okay, Lil, I’ll play your game. Let’s see what our listeners have to say. Call us at 555-732-WXOJ and let us know.”

I dial the number and wait in a queue while a guy named Brandon complains he’s late because his neighbor’s lawn service blocked his driveway and he couldn’t get out. A lady named Gwen tells us about how her son had a blowout with his diaper and she had to bathe him before she could leave.

Boring.

Answer, dammit.

“This is Big D,” he answers. “You’re on the air. Tell us why you’re late this morning.”

“Hey, I’m Wonka. I’m late because I spent all night exorcising my crazy neighbor’s demons.” I yawn for effect. “It took up a lot of energy and I was exhausted this morning. Although, I could have been a little later to try one more time.”

Big D snorts. “We’re calling it exorcising demons these days. That’s a new one. Thanks for calling in, buddy. We’ll take a new caller—”

“Wait,” Lilith’s voice says. “I need to hear a little more of this story. She sounds like quite the temptation. Definitely worth sinning for.”

Goddamn, she sounds so sultry on the air. My cock is hard.

“She does love red,” I admit. “It looks pretty good on her. She just needs a saint to tame her evil ways.”

She huffs. “I’m not—I’m sure she’s not evil. You sound kind of evil. Big D, he has an evil voice, doesn’t he? Probably does all kinds of crazy crap in his grandma’s basement.”

I cringe because she’s not far off from the truth…

Big D snorts.

“Oh, I’m definitely a saint. This one is as evil as one can get. Would you believe, speaking of Tinder, she sent all her failed Tinder dates to my house. Who does that?”

Big D laughs and Lilith lets out a hiss.

“Sounds like you deserved it, to be honest,” she says. “If I were her, I’d fork your yard just for being a pompous little man.”

“Little?” I choke out. “There is nothing little about me. In fact, she likes to call me Big Willy.” I pause for dramatics. “Like that big killer whale from the 90s movies. Also, she already forked my yard once.” Fuck how that shit pissed me off.

Big D is laughing, but Lilith is riled up.

“Usually, if someone goes as far as to buy fifty boxes of forks, they mean business. Their victim totally deserves it. Not to mention, she sounds quite dedicated. Do you know how long it takes to put over seven thousand forks in someone’s grass? All night, Wonka. All night.”

I laugh. “Well, she definitely has stamina. You’re right about that.”

“Pig,” she says. “Next caller.”

“Actually,” Big D tells her chuckling. “Big boss man is waving behind you to keep talking. Apparently, the listeners are blowing up WXOJ’s Twitter feed. They want to know more about the naughty neighbor from hell.”

“Ughhhhh,” she groans.

“Do you have all day? Because I have so many stories. Would you know she ‘accidentally’ egged my house once?” I question.

“Accidental eggings can so happen!” she argues.

Big D roars with laughter. “And how’s that? Was she on her way to an Easter egg hunt and took a little tumble onto her neighbor’s porch?”

“She probably was. You’re both pigs. Why are you siding with Not-So-Big Willy over here, D? I thought we were besties,” she says, irritation in her tone.

“Aww, girl, you’ll always be my favorite. Tell us more, though, Mr. Wonka.”

“She’s super crazy and obnoxious,” I explain to him. “But she kind of grows on you.”

“She sounds delightful,” Lilith says.

“A real peach,” Big D agrees with a snort.

I hear her slap him and him say, “ow.”

“I have a problem with her,” I tell them, growing serious.

“What?” Lilith asks, hurt in her voice.

“I wanted to ask her out, but she blew out of my house without giving me her number. Even though she’s borderline bananas, I’m quite fond of her cherry lips. What should I do?” I question.

“Awww,” Big D replies. “She sounds sweet.”

“Oh, she’s real sweet,” I agree.

“Anywayyyy,” she draws out, embarrassment in her voice. “Maybe she’ll see him later since they’re neighbors and all.”

“Maybe he can’t wait that long. Maybe he misses her already,” I mutter.

Big D chuckles. “Well, maybe he should do a grand gesture like show up at her work and take her out. I bet she’s real fond of cheap beer and greasy cheese sticks. But, hey, aren’t all chicks that way?”

“Well, I did learn where she works today,” I admit. “It’s a possibility. That would mean leaving work early, though, and I’m already late. I’m not really the kind of guy who lets his job slip to go on dates.”

“Sounds like she might be worth it, though,” Big D says. “Right, Lil? She sounds worth it?”

“Totally worth it. Bye now, Wonka. Good luck with all that. And now we have a song called ‘Creep’ by Radiohead. Seems fitting.”

The connection ends and soon Thom Yorke’s voice fills the line. I’m grinning like an idiot. On the way to work, I plot out a plan to show a wild, colorful, vibrant woman like Lilith Hamilton that I know how to be fun too.

I can be so fun.

So I love Meghan Quinn and her writing style. I don’t know that there isn’t I haven’t read by her that I have not loved completely. And One Baby Daddy is just another book to add to that list.

One Baby Daddy is a complete standalone in her Dating by Series. It is Hayden’s story, whom we met first in Three Blind Dates. However, I love that Hayden’s best friend is Racer (Twisted Twosome) from Meghan’s Binghamton series!! I love that she intertwines these two series. You do not need to read any other books to enjoy this one, but she will make you want to go back and read about these others characters (and let me tell you, you will love them too!). Oh and Calder from Back in the Game also makes an appearance too.

Ok – on to this book!! Hayden is a professional hockey player who is now is his off season after losing an important game. He chose to return to Binghamton instead of his parents because he wanted some alone time. It’s in Binghamton that he meets Adalyn, a very close of Racer’s at his “welcome home” party.

Adalyn came into Racer’s circle due to other mutual friends and these two just really hit off and agreed they were better off as friends. Aside from Racer warning Hayden to stay away from Adalyn, there is something that draws him to her. And so beings their journey.

I have to admit, Hayden surprised me. That man has a lot of restraint. And Adalyn has the patience of a saint. The chemistry between these two is off the charts this book is a slow torture burn. But I loved it so much. Hayden wants their relationship to built on more than the physical. But when it does get physical, things go south for them.

Hayden and Adalyn are good at communication, to a degree. Like all relationships, there are ups and downs but when one of you is a professional hockey player where the majority of your time is spent training, playing and traveling for that sport, it adds even more pressure to the relationship. There was a certain individual who was adding some outside issues and while he annoyed at first, in the end, Meghan was able to make me like him.

Meghan writes a very real and heartfelt story. I love Hayden and Adalyn both separate and together. They are both strong individuals who know what they want out of life. They are both stable people with great families behind them which makes this story all the more enjoyable.

One Baby Daddy is another smashing romance with the perfect blend of humor added in from Meghan.

I am loving Aleatha’s lighter side. For anyone who has read Aleatha in the past, she is one my favorite go-to authors for romantic suspense. However, I will absolutely buy her lighter, funnier reads in a heart beat too.

These books are all standalones that are inter-connected but you never need to read a previous book to know what is going on in the next book.

Shana and Trevor’s story had me smiling the entire time. I loved how these two met and then even when they were oceans apart, that spark never tied. Aleatha does a great job of taking this from an insta-attraction first meeting to one with a bigger depth than just physical attraction.

Shana and Trevor are individuals who have secure jobs and love what they do. Even though their jobs could force them to move anywhere, they still want to take this bond to the next step and don’t wan to miss out anything, like they did before.

Another One is a slow burn romance with lots of laughter and ALOT of sexy time!! And if you didn’t read the novella, A Secret One, before reading this – you will definitely want to afterwards. It’s the meeting of Shana and Trevor that they talk about in this book.

I have been reading this series since the first book. You do not need to read any prior books to read this duet (book two comes out shortly after this one). However, I do highly recommend reading them in order so you have a better feel on all the Wright siblings.

I have been a tough critic of this series because I was expecting more from certain books than what I got. However, I never once stopped continuing on with this series because I know Linde’s stories and her writing are worth giving the next book a try. And sticking with this series was very damn well worth it.

The Wright Love is the start of Sutton and David’s story. Sutton has been through the ringer for the last year of her life. She is the baby of the family and nothing like her siblings. I knew this duet was going to be more emotional than the others and truly wasn’t expecting much in the way of drama. But Linde surprises me and throws in some unexpected suspense and delivers a fantastic twist at the end of this book.

David has got to be the one of the sweetest men I have read so far this year. He puts Sutton’s needs above his own and moves at her pace. He doesn’t push for anything and even backs off when she gets spooked. But he never once loses his sight of what he wants – Sutton. Maybe it’s my hormones, but I love a man that respects any woman enough to adhere to her requests but keeps himself aware of her at all times.

Linde, I think this book (duet) may be your best in this series! I can’t wait to see how Sutton and David’s story ends!
