Release Day Event….South of Surrender by Laura Kaye

SOS Release Day Blitz

South of Surrender Release Day Blitz Giveaway

From the amazing Laura Kaye:

“I am thrilled to welcome Chrysander Notos to the world today! Chrys is the hero of South of Surrender, the third book in my Greek-mythology inspired Hearts of the Anemoi series. The Anemoi were wind gods the Greeks associated with controlling the wind, the weather, and the seasons, and as the summer god, Chrys is the hottest of them all! Need more proof? Check out this hot excerpt and the giveaway that follows!”

Unable to resist the draw to her any longer, Chrys claimed her mouth, devouring, searching, taking.

Laney froze, then was right there with him.

Their tongues met, dueled, twirled. He fisted his hand in her hair and guided her, deepening when he wanted, restraining her when he needed.

Her hands slid up his chest toward his neck.

Chrys gasped into the kiss, but fought the reflexive desire to pull away. Instead, he pushed her back one step, then another, until her back encountered the door. He grabbed her arms and pressed them to the surface over her head. The control flooded relief through him and fueled his arousal another notch.

“I want to touch you,” she whispered around a kiss.

His brain scrambled for a moment, and then he wedged his body in tighter, the ridge of his cock coming in snug against her belly. She unleashed a strangled moan as Chrys plundered her mouth, relished her sweet taste, bathed in her life-giving heat.

Good gods, her body was absolutely alive with her arousal. She clenched and unclenched her hands, her arm muscles flexing where he restrained her. Her abdomen writhed against his, creating a maddening friction against his erection. Her thighs shifted and squeezed.

It was only with the barest of restraint that he resisted willing her clothing away, turning her to face the wall, and tugging her hips out so he could bury himself deep.

Lost in the imagery, Chrys didn’t notice the change in her movements until she slowly dragged her injured leg up the outside of his. Her wrists pressed against his hold and a yearning moan worked up her throat. “Chrys,” she whimpered, her thigh moving higher and wrapping around.

His pulse lunged into a sprint. Damnit. He pulled back and stepped away, the phantom feeling of her flesh trapping his spiking fear through him. “I’m sorry,” he said, rubbing his lips, regret a rock in his stomach. He could still feel her, taste her. Making sure she was steady on her feet, he dropped his hands from holding hers.

Synopsis:

Landon “Blackhawk” Walker is ready to get out of the Navy SEALs. He has seen and done enough, and can’t wait to get to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico where three tasks await him: get back into civilian mode, take a boat out to the El Arco Rocks, and win back the heart of the woman he lost because of his career.

Maya Gonzalez has tired of the heartbreak that comes with Landon’s deployments year after year. When he walks back into her life, she cannot deny her heart, despite her reservations.

As they lose themselves in each other and the beauty of Cabo, their passion is rekindled once again, but Maya knows that one phone call means deployment for Landon, putting an end to their reunion, and possibly their relationship.

My Review:

Chica Bella is the first work I have read by Carly Fall and is part of her Honor Guard Series.  Being a sucker for a man in uniform, I was eager to dig into this book and was happy I did….it was a great read!

Landon Walker is a Navy SEAL who has recently come off of assignment and has come to realize that he may be finished with the SEAL life.  He is back in Cabo San Lucas and hoping the woman he has had to leave behind more times than he cares to think about will take him back…again.  Only this time, he hopes he will be able to stay with her, forever.

Maya can’t believe he’s back, sitting here at her bar, and bringing all sorts of emotions back to life within her.  Hurt, relief, longing, lust, just to name a few.  He had left her nine months ago and she has been worried sick and trying to live a life without him…and now he’s back.  Popping in just as he always does.  This time she isn’t sure she has the strength to love him and have him leave without a word until he can return again.  Sure, she understands his service to his country comes first, but she’s tired of coming second.

Landon and Maya only have two weeks, maybe less, to reignite the flame they have between them and enjoy as much of one another as they can.  Landon is praying he gets the call he desperately wants…the call that they have found his replacement and he can spend the rest of his life at peace, with Maya.

Even though this story is only 53 pages, is has everything a 300 page story has.  Love, emotional turmoil, lust and eventually, happiness.  I really enjoyed Carly’s writing style and was drawn to the characters from the beginning of the story and was entertained until the very end.  I will definitely be checking out more of her work!

Thank you, Carly, for packing a whole lot into a small package!

Excerpt:

“Where were you?” she finally asked, her voice quiet.

“Afghanistan.”

He didn’t look at her, but he felt her body tense next to his. “Were you hurt?”

He shrugged, but then thought better of trying to blow off her questions. Maya had always said she wanted nothing but honesty from him, and he had been the one to offer this Q&A.

“I took some shrapnel in my chest, but it was all superficial.” He gazed down at her as she studied his chest as if she could see the wounds he was talking about.

“Did you kill?” she whispered, her stare never leaving his chest.

Dammit. This was the part he hated because she abhorred violence, but killing was his job. If he didn’t take out the bad guys, they would kill American soldiers, and he would be damned if that happened on his watch. “Yes.”

She closed her eyes for a moment.

“Did you think of me?”

“Oh, God, Maya.” He put his finger under her chin and turned her face to his. Her brown eyes sparkled with tears that made his heart feel as though it might quit beating. “Maya, it’s always you. It’s thinking of you that made me want to stay alive. It’s the thought of your smile, your face, your body pressed up against mine that kept me warm at night, the sound of your laughter that made me smile when I felt like I couldn’t smile again. Maya….”

He didn’t know what else to say, so he did what he had wanted to do since the day he left her almost a year ago.
He brought his lips to hers.

Summer-in-Napa cover

Buy from Amazon  ~  Buy from Barnes & Noble

Synopsis:

When Alexis “Lexi” Moreau caught her husband, Jeff, sampling the sous-chef’s more intimate wares in their New York restaurant, she ran—all the way back to her hometown of St. Helena, California. Six months later, Lexi has no husband and no restaurant. But she does have a three-step plan: First, convert her grandmother’s bakery into her dream bistro. Second, ignore Grandma’s matchmaking attempts. And third, avoid Marco DeLuca, her ex’s commitment-phobic, distractingly sexy best friend.

In school Lexi was off-limits for Marco. After all, she was his buddy’s girl. But she’s still as smart and as gorgeous—and apparently as immune to his charms—as she used to be. Yet the simple fake romance they agree upon to dodge Lexi’s grandmother’s matchmaking plans soon turns deliciously complicated. And the sultry summer might bring together all the right ingredients for Marco to win the only woman he’s ever wanted.

My Review:

This is the second installment of Marina Adair’s St. Helena Vineyard Series and follows Kissing Under the Mistletoe.  I was so excited and looking forward to this story after loving Kissing Under the Mistletoe and it lived up to every expectation I had….and more!

Lexi Moreau is back in her hometown of St. Helena and looking for a new start after leaving her ex-husband, ex-restaurant and ex-dreams behind in New York.  What she isn’t looking forward to is running into all of her old friends and having to deal with all of their questions….and worse, their pity.  What she REALLY isn’t looking forward to is a calendar bursting at the seams with blind dates set up by her grandmother and her grandmother’s friends.  Lexi has a lot on her plate with trying to re-build her life and find a new future, certainly she won’t have time for love, but when she starts seeing old friend Marco DeLuca more and more, Lexi realizes that he may have been “the one” all along.

Marco DeLuca is up to his eyeballs in work.  He’s trying to get the old hotel, his hotel now, the one  in the center of town, up and ready to showcase at the Summer Wine Showdown…which is the biggest event in St. Helena every summer.  What he isn’t planning on is running into a very stuck Lexi Moreau hanging ass first out of her grandmother’s bakery window.  He always had a thing for her, but she had married his best friend, and even though they weren’t together any longer, she was still off-limits.  Man code dictated she was still off-limits.  So he should walk away, but Marco was never known to walk away from a beautiful woman.  His shoulder just may be the shoulder she needs to cry on….and he may end up realizing he should have never let her marry his dumb-ass of a former best friend.

Together, Marc and Lexi have more obstacles to hurdle than most.  Grandmothers determined to set her up, long-buried feelings, town snoops, bitter ex-girlfriends and an ex-husband that turns out to have a laundry list of dishonest deeds that threaten to ruin what Marc and Lexi have just begun to realize as a love they have denied themselves since they were teenagers at prom.

What a fantastic, feel good, honest and true romance read.  I freaking LOVED this book.  What Marina gives the reader is truly a gift.  I felt for each character.  Every laugh and every cry and especially every minute of sexual pull between Lexi and Marc.  Dear God….the heat from Marc was palpable.  There’s a scene in this book, in the pantry, that ranks as one of my fave hottest moments (a Frisky Friday post, perhaps?).  Marc has such a way with words that I don’t doubt for one minute that any woman would be putty in his hands.  He is sex on a stick and has such a big heart that when he finally finds love, you know it’s all-in, forever.  Lexi is a freaking dream character!  I love her!  I don’t love many heroines as much as I love Lexi.  The fact that she eats her weight in éclairs through this book and finds the strength to smile in the face of adversity all while still giving love a chance is so admirable.  I had more than a few laugh-out-loud-at-work moments while reading this story.  Lexi and Marc are a book couple I will be looking for in future installments in this series…they are just too great together! Oh, and don’t even get me started on the grandmothers! Those ladies are the best and I wish we all had women like them in our lives! Talk about fan-freaking-tastic characters!! Spunky, no-nonsense, loyal ladies with a love of life and their families….love those old biddies!

Marina is such a phenomenal storyteller.  I am lucky to have been giving the chance to read Summer in Napa Valley and be able to bring my voice to all of you in recommending it.  If you love love, happy endings and paddling through countless emotions to get to that happy ending, this is a book for you.  Thank you, Marina, for doing what you do….and don’t ever stop! Can’t wait to have another visit to St. Helena in the future!

About the author:

Every author can identify the exact moment of inception, when the skies parted, the heavens sang, and a divine being came forth, anointing them one of the chosen, blessed to spend the rest of eternity weaving stories of ‘ever after’ for mass consumption.

For me, it wasn’t so much a moment, but an intervention.

Sophomore year, my fellow Blockheads sat me down and explained that I had an addiction. I was a NKOTB–A-holic. Afraid of becoming enablers, they refused to listen to another one of my never-ending stories about our passionate intrigues with Jordan, Joe, Jon, Danny, and Donnie. What they didn’t understand was that New Kids on the Block wasn’t my obsession—they were my current romance-medium of choice.

Twenty years later, my romance addiction is a hard, bodice-ripping, half-dozen books per week. When I’m not reading it or watching it, I am writing it—or workshopping it—or editing it—or strategizing how my hands to get more of it.

In 2010, I realized I was closer to menopause than prom and got serious about my career, writing my way toward a post-graduate degree in creative writing (in the off chance that the first one didn’t stick) and becoming a published romance author.

January of 2012, I sold my first novel, TUCKER’S CROSSING, to Kensington Books and The St. Helena Vineyard series to Montlake Romance.  KISSING UNDER THE MISTLETOE, the first in the series is a National Bestseller and #1 Romance Series bestseller. SUMMER IN NAPA releases May 14, 2013 and AUTUMN AT THE VINEYARD releases October 2013. In 2014 the first in the Sugar Series, BUT SUGAR’S TWICE AS SWEET, will release from Grand Central’s Forever line.

I live with my husband, daughter and three neurotic cats in Northern California.

Synopsis:

Left on bended knee, with nothing but a ring in his hand and a gaping hole in his chest, Ivan Rusilko lost everything when Jaden Thorne said, “I can’t.”

Now, six months later and despite her endless attempts to reach him, finding forgiveness for Jaden’s indiscretion is last on his list of things to do. Dr. Ivan is married to his career now, and his professional success is taking him places he’s never been before. But even the glow of accomplishment can’t heal his devastated heart. Determined to recover, to move forward at any cost, he now finds moments of respite in distractions that leave him emotionally bankrupt. He’s empty, a shadow of his former vibrant, life-loving self. On the outside, he may seem to be the man he always was. But inside, a terrible desire threatens to rip him apart and ruin him forever.

Meanwhile Jaden is haunted by the memory of the moment she saw the light wither and die in Ivan’s eyes. She knows it died at her hand. After months of trying to explain herself, of begging for mercy, she takes herself back to Miami, back into Ivan’s path, for one last chance at redemption. Can she entice him back into her arms? Convince him to give her a second chance? She’s determined to do whatever it takes to find forgiveness—even if all that’s left is forgiving herself.
In this final book of The Winemaker’s Feast Trilogy, The Winemaker’s Dinner: Dessert, author Dr. Ivan Rusilko is writing solo, drawing freely on his own life and love experiences to craft a heartbreaking and wildly erotic tale about lost hope, desperation, contrition, and—if it’s possible—the quest for a perfect ending to a real-life love story. True to its title, Dessert serves readers an indulgent, decadent last course, rich with twists, turns, and tantalizing truths.

Love is beautiful, guys like this really do exist, and the power of real romance is something we can all believe in.

My Review:

This is the third installment in the Winemaker’s Dinner Series and picks up where Entrée left us…an emotional a puddle of mush on the floor.

We are back in Miami with Ivan six months after the disaster proposal that crushed his hopes and dreams.  He has thrown himself into his career and, in theory, he should be happy with the success he has.  He is, in a way.  But in those quiet moments that work and patients and new expansion plans can’t fill is when the pain takes over.  The Band-Aid Ivan has found to help get him through those moments is just that, a temporary fix to cover a wound that refuses to heal.  He’s been through broken hearts before…surely he can get over this, too, right? Unfortunately, right now, it isn’t looking that way.

Jaden has just wrapped up filming her successful season of One Hot Dish and is beyond happy to close that chapter in her life and say a long-awaited adios to her prick co-host, Damian.  Damian, the self-centered egotistical ass that ruined her life…well, she was just as much to blame now, wasn’t she.  With the season wrapping up, she will be headed back “home” to Miami for a two-month break.  Now she will just have to decide on what to do with her time there….hide or take a stand and fight for the man she left behind, broken.

Together they will need to find their ways back to a sense of peace and, ultimately, happiness…whether it’s together or apart.  You have to go through Hell to appreciate Heaven and the journey they have ahead of them, even six months after the last night they saw one another, is going to be a rough one.

Let me start my part of this review by saying this book took the exact opposite direction I assumed it was going to take….and at the risk of sounding like a cold-hearted bitch, I have to say I am beyond happy it went in this direction.  This book is considerably darker than the others in the series.  That being said, I don’t think I would have been satisfied if this book wasn’t dark.  Ivan is reeling and broken.  He was ready to spend his life with Jaden and she threw his love and adoration back in his face when she declined his proposal and confessed her “adultery”.  It would be unbelievable, albeit less painful, if he was sad for a month and then got back to a business-as-usual attitude.  I was sobbing by page 16, but as you know, those are the kind of books I love most.  I love to feel what the character feels…and to feel Ivan’s utter defeat was truly an experience I won’t soon forget.  I was a bundle of anxious nerves through this read…until the very last 10ish pages.  Damn…those last few pages are some I carry with me for quite some time.  Ivan is truly an artist with words.  There are a few paragraphs that are so well written and the words are spoken with such love behind them I must have read them twenty times after finishing the book.  Freaking perfect!

So here I am…all sad that I’m finished with the book and, of course, am dying to hear what’s next for Ivan but I can’t help but think of one of Ivan’s favorite sayings….”Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”.  Thank you, Ivan for an amazing finish to a series I will continue to recommend to all of the new readers I come across and thank you for, well,  just being you!

Excerpt:

“Jaden grabs a first full of his hair and yanks his head back, forcing him to look at her as she seemed to search for something he wasn’t communicating.  Her breath heavy and unsteady, she ran gentle fingers across his face and jaw.  Ivan brought his hand around to the back of her neck and tilted her head, his teeth ripping at her bottom lip.  Her body responded as it always had, and she clutched his hair with both hands.

Releasing her bottom lip from his teeth, he held her face between his hands, studying her face, her reaction as held he against the bricks with his body.  She was every bit as beautiful as he remembered, but he could not look at her now without feeling the pain of having been ripped in two.  But this was not the time for feelings.  He looked he up and down and marveled  at her beauty as the freak within trembled in excitement.  Satisfaction.”

Locked cover

Synopsis:

Who is Sebastian Lock?

The bar Sophia Pearce is in doesn’t look like much. The wine is bad and the decor worse. But when a sudden attack of curiosity leads her to sneak past security and into the back room, she discovers something unimaginable. The most lavish party she’s ever laid eyes on, in the most unlikely of places.

But that’s nothing compared to what comes next, to the man she meets back there. Sebastian Lock. Gorgeous, commanding, and radiating charm, he is exactly the sort of silver-tongued rake Sophia has sworn to avoid. Unfortunately, he doesn’t care much for her promises.

Every instinct tells her to run, but the chemistry between them is as inescapable as gravity. Soon, he’s opening her eyes to a whole new world of pleasures, pleasures she never thought she’d enjoy.

There’s just one problem. Sebastian is more than he seems. Between the famous company he keeps and the almost paranoid secrecy of his employers, he’s a puzzle Sophia can’t quite solve, and his insistence on keeping things casual forces her to confront the demons of her past.

Can she learn to trust again? Or will Sebastian’s privacy tear them apart?

This is a 35,000 word novella, or about 120 pages. It contains light BDSM, including spanking, restraint, and anal play, and is intended for readers aged 18 and oveNote: This book is the first part of a trilogy that is designed to be read together, much like The Blackstone Affair. Sebastian and Sophia will get their happily ever after, but not until the last book.

Lockout (The Alpha Group Book Two): Due May 2013
Unlocked (The Alpha Group Book Three): Due June/July 2013

Excerpt:

I sighed. “It’s stupid really. Remember when I said I’d explain my safe word?” He nodded. “Well, when I was running away that first night, it occurred to me that the situation bore some passing similarity to Cinderella. You know, shoes left behind at the ball and all that.”

He seemed to find this incredibly amusing. “I’m a little rusty with my fairy tales, but I don’t remember Cinderella being quite as sordid as that particular evening.”

“You mustn’t have been reading the right version.”

“Apparently not.” He grinned. “Well, that does explain why you were in such a hurry to leave. And here I was thinking you were embarrassed.”

I shook my head. “Nope. I just had to escape before pumpkin o’clock.”

Sliding closer, he wrapped his arms around my hips, locking my body against his. “So if you’re Cinderella, that makes me Prince Charming then?”

Whatever lingering frustration I’d felt instantly melted away. “I guess so,” I said, my voice suddenly fluttering. How the hell does he keep doing that to me?

“Well then, I believe that means that since I’ve returned your lost slippers, we’re meant to kiss now.”

I knew I should probably stop him. Someone could walk in at any moment. But as usual, I seemed to have no willpower where he was concerned. Craning his neck, he brought his mouth down to meet mine. The kiss was somehow firm and hungry, yet impossibly soft, and the warmth of it flowed through me. As our bodies rocked back against my desk, he reached up and ran one hand roughly through my hair, driving us together, as though someone might steal me away at any moment.

Some indeterminable time later, he broke away. “I do believe I should bring you things more often,” he said with a smile.

“I’m not sure I’d ever get much done if you did.” Glancing and the clock I winced. “Speaking of getting things done, you should probably go. As much as I don’t want to go back to this stuff, it’ll just be there tomorrow if I don’t do it today.”

I slipped out from under his arms and reached to open the door, but he followed behind me, catching my wrist in his hand and sliding up against me until my body was pressed into the wood. Trapped again.

“I’m sorry we don’t have more time,” he said, drawing his free hand softly down my hip. “I do like the idea of fucking you right here.”

I could feel his excitement jutting into my lower back like hot metal. Just a few inches lower and… Jesus Sophia, you’re at work for fuck’s sake.

“This is my office, Sebastian,” I said, trying to sound disapproving. I didn’t do a very good job.

Dropping his head down he brushed his lips gently across the curve of my neck. “Well, I guess that wouldn’t be proper,” he whispered. “We’ll just have to wait. Are you free tomorrow night?”

“I think so.”

“Good. Then come to the Royal Bay hotel, room four hundred, at eight o’clock.”

“Why?”

“You said you wanted to start learning more about what it is to submit, so tomorrow I’m going to show you. I think you’ll find the experience… eye opening.”

About the author:

Maya Cross is a writer who enjoys making people blush. Growing up with a mother who worked in a book store, she read a lot from a very young age, and soon enough picked up a pen of her own. Her previous work spans many genres including horror, science fiction, and fantasy, and she has now started this pen name as an outlet for her spicier thoughts (they were starting to overflow). She likes her heroes strong but mysterious, her encounters sizzling, and her characters true to life.

She believes in writing familiar narratives told with a twist, so most of her stories will feel comfortable, but hopefully a little unique. Whatever genre she’s writing, finding a fascinating concept is the first, and most important step.

The Alpha Group is her first attempt at erotic romance.

The Damaged Hero and Why I Love Him

When I create my hero for my series, the first thing I dream up about other than his gorgeous rock hard abs, piercing eyes, and fine a–, is the true crux of his journey.

His issues.

I adore issues. The more the better. Give me an alpha man, who’s been hurt, dragged through the mud, abused, and is afraid of trust, emotion and commitment, and you have me hooked.

Umm, I swear I’m a pretty happy person in my real life. And my husband has none of those problems.  Swear.

But fiction is where the excitement and sex and truth is dragged out and exposed for a reader’s pleasure.

Bring it.

My marriage to a billionaire series started with my fantastic hero, Nick, in The Marriage Bargain. His parents screwed him up big time, so he struggled when struck by Alexa’s inner light, humor, and kindness. I loved slowly breaking down his walls and watching him discover he is able, and deserving, of love.

Michael stormed the pages of The Marriage Trap, less damaged than my usual heroes in order to let my heroine, Maggie take center stage. But this hot tempered, gorgeous Italian was going to claim his bride no matter how hard the path was. He struggles with his own family issues and is challenged to fight for something he believes in. I loved watching him come to that realization and taking my snarky heroine by storm.

Maximus was my older, elegant, James Bond type hero from The Marriage Mistake. His father left him when he was young, and he gives new meaning to the term commitment phobe. Of course, he never expected Michael’s younger sister to seductively pursue him, and make him squirm both physically and emotionally to claim something he’d never wanted before. Watching his journey left me breathless and wanting…more.

What’s next? Make way for my most damaged hero of all, Sawyer Wells from the upcoming The Marriage Merger. He’s so damaged he made me work even harder to try to heal his wounds and urge him believe in love. When I hook him up with the last Conte sister, Julietta, my workaholic, strong willed, successful CEO, literal sparks shall fly. It releases July 30th everywhere,  and is up for preorder so claim your copy together.

Thanks to Jillian for having me here to summarize a bit of my series and give such a fab giveaway!!

Happy Reading!

You can pre-order your copy of The Marriage Merger from Amazon or Barnes & Noble

marriage trap cover

Synopsis:

Italian billionaire seeks faux fiancée. Willing to agree to anything in return…

In order for his sister to marry, Italian billionaire Michael Conte has to find himself a bride – and fast! When he learns that photographer Maggie Ryan is going to be in Milan, Michael hatches a plan to introduce her to his family as his “fiancée.” Never mind that Maggie is confident, independent, and a control freak. Never mind that she’s everything he doesn’t want in a wife… and everything he wants in his bed!

Convinced that Michael is in love with her married gal pal, Maggie agrees to keep up the ruse if he’ll keep away from her friend. Besides, she’s not attracted to charming, ridiculously hot billionaires who drive her nuts. Once they’re in Italy, however, everything changes – and the sexual tension between Maggie and Michael goes from simmer to naked nuclear meltdown!

But have they found the perfect arrangement… or are they trapped in a make-believe marriage?

My Review:

The Marriage Trap is the second installment in Jennifer Probst’s Marriage to a Billionaire Series and a fabulous addition to the series!  This book follows Maggie Ryan, Nick Ryan’s sister, and Michael Conte, the sexy and suave Italian businessman and best friend to Alexa Ryan, in a story filled with emotions that kept me on the edge of my seat through most of the book!

Maggie Ryan still doesn’t trust that the Rico Suave-ish Michael Conte isn’t in love with her sister-in-law, Alexa.  She sees him at every damn family function these days.  Not surprising she has suspicions about Michael seeing as how Maggie grew up with her brother, Nick, in a less-than-normal household where adultery and a lack of love and nurturing were the norms.  Even though Michael has repeatedly denied such feelings, she can’t help but remember the disastrous blind date they had gone on a few months back where, at the end of the date, he looked her dead in the eye and told her it could never work.  His love for Alexa had to be the reason. Not that she cared.  Maggie was never interested in the long-term, where the risk of being hurt was a constant threat in her mind.  A threat she will shield her brother and Alexa’s relationship from at any cost.  So, when she has an opportunity to do a favor for Michael, and in turn have him in her debt, she knows exactly what to do to keep her family safe…and take Michael out of the picture for good.

Michael Conte can’t believe the mess he’s in now.  After a frantic phone call from his one sister in Italy, he is now in the hot seat and being blamed for the reason she can’t marry her long-time love.  As if he doesn’t have enough on his plate, with the grand opening of his family’s bakery here in the States, now he has to figure out how to solve this mess.  You see, there’s this old tradition that says she can’t marry until he is married.  The problem is, he isn’t even close to marrying.  So now, with the threat of breaking up his sister’s relationship, he has to find a wife…now.  Luckily, after overhearing Maggie Ryan talking about a business trip she has planned to Milan, he has an idea.  Convince Maggie to be his fake wife, visit his family together on a little detour from her Milan trip, have them believe he is married, and, VOILA! Problem solved.  Only somehow he knows, this is going to end up being anything but easy….especially when Maggie can’t stand him.

This book was emotion packed from the very first chapter and I loved it! Maggie is a tough, sassy, loyal and driven woman who hides a softer side that broke my heart.  She is a wounded soul who deep down, just wants to be loved and feel wanted….two things she’s never felt as though she has been.  She is a fierce protector of her family, which ironically, makes her so much like Michael.  Michael is a fantastic character.  He has every quality a gal could ask for.  Successful, driven, loyal, fierce and of course, drop dead sexy!  The tit-for-tat between Maggie and Michael is done so well!  Their chemistry is amazing, even though they both want to deny it, which to me, makes it even better! But my favorite part of the whole book is the ending.  Damn, does anyone write more romantic endings than Jennifer?  Nope! So far, in each book in this series, the endings play out like a well-scripted movie in my head and are done beautifully! Freaking loved it! Plus, we got to see what Alexa and Nick have been up to…which of course, I loved.

And now…I’m on to The Marriage Mistake because I already can’t wait to see what happens with Carina and Max! Thank you, Jennifer, for another amazing read!

About the author:

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. At twelve, I took a pen in hand and wrote my first love story. I haven’t stopped since. Those heroines taught me valuable lessons that served me well. I learned to keep my head up high and surge forward when I was afraid; I learned to demand respect in a relationship; I learned about compromise and dreams and independence. Those are the stories I want to write, and I can only hope I give back some of the joy I received over the years.

I live in the beautiful Hudson Valley in upstate New York. I’ve traveled to many places but always seem to be drawn back to the mountains. I graduated with a business degree, worked for Mercy College, and now spend most days dedicated to my family and my characters. I’ve pursued many career paths such as travel agent, yoga teacher and insurance salesperson. I’ve wanted to be an airline pilot, a dancer, an archaeologist, and a vineyard owner. I have been all of the above through Jennifer-Probst-1-Crop-258x300romance novels, and intend to explore many more.

One of my turning points in my career was when I joined Romance Writers of America and met the wonderful people in my local chapter, The Hudson Valley RWA. Through supportive critique sessions, I learned how to develop my raw skills to get a publishable manuscript. I discovered my tendency for wordy prologues and passive phrases that all new writers work through, and now try to help others on their journey.

My “leisure time” is spent writing, reading, and raising two active boys. I believe animals are the other children in this world, and enjoy spending time at the local animal shelter, where I got my first “baby” Bella, a shepherd hound mix who gets into as much trouble as my son! I rescued my second dog from an abusive home, a beagle, basset hound who is the peacemaker in the household.

I met the love of my life when I had finally given up on my own romantic journey. The first time he asked me out he promised to buy my book if he could buy me dinner. We had dinner and fell in love over sushi and haven’t been apart since. We married and settled into domestic bliss. That’s when I learned it wasn’t about happy endings. It was about happy beginnings.

Marriage Bargain COVER

Synopsis:

A marriage in name only…

To save her family home, impulsive bookstore owner, Alexa Maria McKenzie, casts a love spell. But she never planned on conjuring up her best friend’s older brother—the powerful man who once shattered her heart.

Billionaire Nicholas Ryan doesn’t believe in marriage, but in order to inherit his father’s corporation, he needs a wife and needs one fast. When he discovers his sister’s childhood friend is in dire financial straits, he offers Alexa a bold proposition.

A marriage in name only with certain rules: avoid entanglement. Keep things all business. Do not fall in love. The arrangement is only for a year so the rules shouldn’t be that hard to follow, right?

Except fate has a way of upsetting the best-laid plans…

My Review:

The Marriage Trap is the first in the Marriage to a Billionaire Series by Jennifer Probst and a fantabulous start to a fantabulous series!

Alexa McKenzie cannot believe she is actually sitting in her living room with a bunch of mumbo-jumbo ingredients and a list of traits she wants in a man and is actually going to cast a love spell to have him delivered to her front door.  Well, when you’ve lost all hope and are in need of a miracle to help save your family’s home, people do crazy things…like wish for a man who’s got 150 thousand dollars to spare, along with a few other requirements, of course.  What has she got to lose…other than her heart?

Nicholas Ryan is so close to finally becoming the head of his family’s corporation…his life long dream.  The only thing standing in his wife…or lack thereof.  Figures.  The last thing he wants is to get married, but now in order to inherit the company, he has to find a wife and quick. Fate seems to have a little something up her sleeve when a childhood friend happens to have come across some financial strain and needs money, fast.  That, he could handle.  Looks like a marriage of convenience just landed in his lap. She needs money and he needs a wife….

This was another one of those “I’ll just start this book and get back to my to-do list later….whoa! is it really two hours since I sat down and started reading?!”. I was hooked from start to finish. Nicholas, or Nick, started out as a cold-hearted soul and transformed into the kind of guy girls dream of.  I mean, yes, he’s gorgeous and well-built and über wealthy, but his coolness and closed off emotions left lots to be desired.  Enter: Alexa.  Complete opposite of his emotion-free world, she brings exactly what he needs into his life…warmth, happiness, fun and love.  They are a fantastic couple and had me rooting for them from the beginning.  I wanted them to be more than an agreement on paper and damn, if the sexual tension wasn’t just delicious between them! YUM! This story was a great mix of humor, angst and emotion.  And don’t even get me started on the ending…I cried my eyes out!  Big, fat happy tears! *dreamy sigh*

If you’re looking for a fun and flirty read with lots of heat, then put this on your list!  Just make sure you’ve finished your to-do list before you sit down to start!  Thank you, Jennifer, for a great start to what’s sure to be a favorite series!
