my-review

I was asked to review this book and after reading the blurb I was sent, I was hooked.  It’s an adaption of Charles Dicken’s Oliver Twist with today’s modern flare.  It’s truly quite an interesting book.

Olivia Twisted is told in both Z and Liv’s POVs.  They both are foster kids, but Z is living a slightly better life due to the “home” he now lives in.  It’s not Liv is living with horrible foster parents now, it’s just that Z seems to be doing quite well for himself  – enough that he’s able to afford a Ducati.  Yea, crazy for a foster kid.

Anyway – I enjoyed the plot and how Vivi built this story up.  It’s a slow build and shows what these characters thinking as things progress.  Liv is dubbed as naïve by Z but I think she’s anything but naïve – she’s curious enough to question everything that goes on.

I was a little let down when it came to the big build up and what was planned for Liv, the overall book was really good.  I was hooked from start to finish and the pace kept me glued to the pages.

I look forward to reading the next book, Olivia Decoded. Especially since this one didn’t really end on a cliffhanger.

my-review

Olivia Decoded takes place about 8 months after Olivia Twisted ended.  And yes, you should read Olivia Twisted before reading this to get a good background on all the characters and what happened to get them to this point.

This book isn’t so much about the hacking and computer stuff as the first book.  It’s more about the mystery behind Liv’s stalker and how it all ties her and Z/Jack together.  Yes, there is talks about hacking going on, but it’s not the focus of the book.

I enjoyed how Vivi played everything out.  I was truly surprised by the twist of events and hwo things went down.  I honestly didn’t see that coming.  However, my biggest gripe is the time frame in which things happen.  For instance, on a particular day there visiting a school that is letting out and then what should be hours later, a text is received stating they’ll be at school by 3.  See -things just not working out in the timeline for me.  But that’s my only gripe and for some I know that will irk a lot more than it did me.

Overall, the story was very interesting and flowed well (aside from the timeline issues).  I was kept interested in the story and definitely needed to know who was behind everything.

“Wow, who gave you that?”

“My grandfather. He left it on my car seat this morning.”

“Oh, boo. I thought maybe you had a secret admirer or something.” I try not to smile at her obvious disappointment. Emerson’s been on me to date for months now. She knows I had someone back in Richmond who was special, but only that we broke it off before I moved here. She doesn’t know anything else about Jack. No one does, because what would I say? The last guy I dated is a criminal, and the last time I saw him was right after we got kidnapped by his horrible boss and almost died trying to escape. That’d go over really well.

“I don’t know, what do you think?” Emerson breaks into my thoughts as we walk down the hallway to our lockers.

“About what?”

She sighs. “Where Kade’s taking me tonight. Girl, you are not with it today, are you? Are you doing anything tonight?”

“My grandfather’s taking me to dinner.”

“Sweet. Not so romantic, but sweet.”

I smile. “Yes, he’s sweet. But a little over the top on gifts sometimes.” Even after eight months of living the wealthy life, I’d be happier if he gave me a gift card to a bookstore instead of extravagant jewelry I rarely wear.

My phone starts buzzing, and I pull it from my pocket. Grandfather’s text reads: What gift?

I frown, typing, The bracelet you left in my car. I snap a quick picture of the bracelet on my wrist and send it to him. Maybe his text was a hint to send a picture, though I doubt it. He’s usually pretty direct about things.

“What’s up?” Emerson asks.

“Looks like Grandfather forgot he left me the bracelet.” But even as I say it, it doesn’t sound right. He’s one of the sharpest people I’ve ever known, and he runs a financial institution.

“Maybe he gave it to one of his staff to put in your car.” Her voice has the usual bitter tone whenever she’s thinking of her parents. They’re hardly ever around, and when they are, they don’t pay much attention to her.

“Yeah, you’re probably right.” I don’t believe that, though. Even though it’s possible Mrs. Bedwin did put it there, I doubt it. Grandfather is the type to handle things himself when it comes to me. But Emerson’s parents travel so much for their business that they often let their staff handle things like birthdays and other events they think aren’t important. So as grateful as I am that Grandfather’s always there for me, I don’t like to rub that in Emerson’s face.

“Maybe you really do have a secret admirer,” she says hopefully.

I roll my eyes.“I doubt that.”

“Oh, really?” She stops in her tracks, her eyes fixed straight ahead. I follow her gaze, a sharp sense of dread creeping down my spine. A white rose is dangling from the vent in my locker.

A rose I know wasn’t placed there by my grandfather.

I sell more than sex. I sell experiences. My clients are women of taste and style, with money to lavish on their most intimate fantasies. The contract is clear: Absolute confidentiality. No limits. 100% satisfaction guaranteed. I take them to that place in the half-light, where pleasure blurs with pain, and sex becomes so much more. Beautiful filth, sweet and dirty and so fucking delicious. They take it all and always come back for more. I’m in it for the money, and maybe the pleasure, too. I don’t do emotional involvement. Ever. I’m a professional, and this is business. Until she walks in. my-review

DIRTY. FILTHY. SIZZLING. SEX.

SIX.

If you’re looking for a story that toes the line of eroticism and holy fucking shit, then the debut novel from author James Crow is the book for you.

Emma Jane is in the unfortunate circumstance of having to marry in order to save the future of her greedy, selfish, pretentious family. The only thing more unfortunate than that is the unattractiveness of her future husband. William is a bland, entitled, trust-fund type who enjoys slow, boring sex in the dark. That’s a far cry from what Emma Jane is used to doing with the stable boys in the sheep pen. The only person in her family that she has anything in common with is her hippy, free-spirited, vivacious Aunt Fiona.

Aunt Fiona surprises Emma Jane with a week-long getaway as a wedding present. It’s there where Emma Jane explores the deeper, darker, dirtier side of sex and submission; with none other than Master Jonathon Gold.

Though meek and nervous once she arrives, Emma Jane quickly finds that it’s easy to give herself up to Jonathon completely. Unfortunately, by doing so, she also gives him her heart. Can Jonathon give Emma Jane his heart in return or does it still belong to someone else?

This book left me wanting more from Jonathon and Emma Jane and I am happy to hear that there is a sequel in the works. I have butterflies knowing that Mr. Crow will be leading me through more dirty, filthy experiences with Jonathon and Emma Jane.

Fair warning, you will never again be able to think of shaving, round rooms, massages, showers, and condiments with out blushing.

my-review

This story melted my heart in so many ways.  And it’s not the lead male or female that stole heart – it’s the little girl, English who runs away it.

I won’t go into too many details about this book.  You have to experience all the feels of this book firsthand.  Trust me, you will be under the rainbow after reading this book.

Beck unexpectedly finds himself being at father at the young age of 19.  Fast-forward six years later and you get to see what kind of father he is.

English is starting her first day of school and Sheridan is her teacher.  As much as English doesn’t want to go, it’s Sheridan’s great thinking that wins English over.  And that’s where everything starts.

I love the slow build of everything.  Sheridan and Beck do not hit off right away and even as things progress, you can see that Sheridan isn’t really impressed by Beck other than being a great father.  Outside of that, he’s a butthole – seriously that’s what Sheridan calls him.

Annie wrote a very endearing and true to life story.  The interactions between not just Sheridan and Beck but with Beck’s parents are so honest and heartfelt, you truly forget this story isn’t real.

But what made me love this book even more was English.  That little girl stole the limelight in this book.  She’s a true angel and such a bundle of joy and energy.  I kid you not, after reading this, I couldn’t help but hold my own little one and just squeeze her a little tighter.  Our children are our world and we will do anything for them.

Another smashing hit for Annie!

Book Summary

junkie-ebook-1-2
I’m a heroin addict. A junkie. A whore. I’ll do anything to get my next fix.
Anything.
Including walking right onto the property of Austin’s most ruthless and feared drug
lord to beg for some H. I don’t know his name, only that people call him Boss. Oh,
and that he won’t think twice to put a bullet in my head.
But like I said, I’ll do anything to get my next fix. Even if it costs me my life.
Or changes it forever.

my-review

This is my first book by Heather C Leigh so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  I didn’t read reviews of her previous books because I didn’t want others opinions to persuade me in any direction.  I wanted to go in blind and be surprised by reaction.  And surprised I was.

I was expecting a very dark and twisted story, and I got that.  But I was not expecting the surprising heartfelt gestures from the drug lord.   And he himself was surprised by what he was doing, but he knew deep down why.

Boss is Austin’s king drug lord and he’s ruthless.  He killed his predecessor before him and knows what it takes to maintain his rule.  Miri is the junkie who somehow finds herself at his doorstep going through the beginning stages of withdrawal from heroin.

Surprising himself, Boss takes in Miri and has this overwhelming need to take care of her.   Boss has not been able to forgive himself of things in his past and he’s hoping that Miri is his way of fixing those wrongs.  However, Miri proves to be quite the spitfire when she’s not jonesing for a fix.

The dynamics between Boss and Miri are quite interesting.  These two definitely go nose to nose a few times and the fire between them is stoked, ALOT.  But Miri know that nothing comes free in the drug world.

The history of both Miri and Boss really play into this story.  It explains a lot of how they got to this point and the decisions they continue to make.  Even though these two are completely different, there attraction couldn’t be any more intense.  But Boss knows that in the drug world, anything you are extremely protective of, will also become your biggest weakness.

I love the story that Heather has developed and I am quite intrigued as to how all this will play out in the next book, Jagger.

Excerpt

Boss gives Miri a hit

Despite Miri’s disgusting appearance, her nasty addiction to heroin, and the
fact that her maybeboyfriend had been stealing from me to feed her habit, I felt
responsible for her. It was my shit she got hooked on, and she just seemed… frail
and in need of someone to take care of her. It was almost as if she were sent here as
penance for my past failures to take care of my mom and sister.
Besides, Miri intruded on my property. She knew where I lived. I couldn’t
just toss her out. It was highly unlikely, but she could call the cops and get them
down here with a warrant in the blink of an eye.
Better to get her dosed up and calmed down before trying to talk.
“Jase,” I barked.
One of my men immediately appeared at my side. “Yes, Boss.”
“Bring me the kit.”
With a sharp nod, he left the room and reappeared in less than two minutes
to hand me a small zippered pouch. “Here you go, Boss.”

“All of you leave,” I ordered as I began prepping the kit. One by one, I lined
the items up on the table, in the order I would need them. Everyone obeyed my
command but one.
“Boss, come on…”
“Milo, don’t push me any further tonight.” I turned to give my lieutenant a
dark stare that said don’t fuck with me. He better not press his thoughts in front of a
stranger.
Milo’s lips pressed tight as he struggled to keep his mouth shut and follow
my orders. Nothing new from the big, strongwilled man. He was very opinionated
at times. Tense and agitated, Milo gave in and agreed. “Fine. I’m going home then,
Boss.”
“See you in the morning.” I dismissed Milo and returned my attentions to
the sweaty, gross, trembling girl in my kitchen.
Using an alcohol pad, I wiped my hands to kill any germs. Then I picked up
a tiny packet of white powder, careful not to spill any, and poured it into a spoon
designed to lie on a flat surface without tilting. The rubber tourniquet was long
compared to Miri’s razorthin arm. I knotted it around the tiny limb, holding back a
pained grimace at touching her filthy skin. When I glanced up to check on her, I
found Miri watching intently. I blinked and tore my gaze away from those wide
green eyes to search for a vein. There wasn’t a single usable one on her
scarriddled arm.
“Shit,” I muttered when an inspection of her other arm turned up the same.
“II use my feet.” Miri’s voice was so soft I nearly missed her response.
Caught in the sliver of emerald in those captivating eyes, it took me a minute
to reply.

“All right.” I removed the tourniquet, put it around a slender ankle, and
placed her left foot on the floor to get better blood flow to the extremity. A single
bluish vein stood out, surrounded by a halfdozen faded and fresh track marks.
“There it is.” I grabbed another alcohol pad and swabbed the area. Syringe in hand,
I uncapped a vial of sterile water and drew up a small amount, adding it to the
powered opiate in the spoon. Using a lighter, I cooked the drugs until the mixture
was reduced to a clear, bubbling liquid. As I waited for the chemicals to cool, Miri
became frantic.
“IIt’s okay. I ccan take it hot. Really. II don’t mind. Please…”
“No.” I shook my head. “It’s not safe. You could blow a vein or worse.”
“I don’t care! Give it to me.” She started to struggle in the chair, in danger of
tipping it over again.
Fed the fuck up with today’s events and bullshit in general, I caught her chin
between my thumb and forefingers and pinched hard enough to hold her still.
“Stop this immediately or you’ll get nothing. Listen carefully, because I’m
only going to say it once. I’m never, ever hospitable to intruders, so you should
consider yourself lucky to still be breathing right now and not being driven to a
remote location where no one will ever find your body.”
Those dull eyes widened with fear and her lip trembled. “Okay, okay. I’m
ggood. I’ll be good. I’m ssorry.”
I ripped open another alcohol swab and wiped off my fingers. Filthy junkie.
Once the mixture was cool, I drew it up into the syringe using a filtered needle and
made sure the air was out.
“Ready?” I’m not sure why I bothered—I knew the answer before the
question was asked.
“Yes, please, please, please.” Miri vibrated with anticipation.

Despite the fact I grew up around drugs, despised drug use, watched my
family implode from drug addiction and never once allowed anyone to get high in
my house or permitted drug use among my employees, I went against everything I
believed personally and stuck the needle into the vein on Miri’s foot. I pulled back
to watch as dark red blood entered the syringe. With visual confirmation I hit a
vein, I removed the tourniquet and slowly injected the opiate into her system until
the syringe was empty. Working efficiently, I cleaned up the kit, put the used items
in a container for the staff to dispose of, and washed my hands at the sink.
Then I sat down and waited.

Review:

Roni Loren starts this story off with a character who shy and unsure of herself. Cora is lost in the game of love and really never sees herself being loved or even wanted, after all she is tomboy who is every mans best friend. As she searches for the truth at her new job, she discovers herself falling in love with not one but two hot bosses. Hayes and Ren are characters who you have to love. They are strong, dominant, hot and funny as hell. It is like getting a two for one in book boyfriends.

As I started to read Loving You Easy within the first chapter I said to myself “well I didn’t see that coming”. Five pages later, I kid you not, I said “Holy Sh!%t, I did not see that coming at all”! This book truly surprised me in every way. It was a mystery, a love story, kinky, and surprising.

I am not sure I would necessarily read a book like this again, simply because it is not a story line I particularly seek out, however Roni went for it. I must say she succeeded! This is simply a great book that had wonderful written characters who not only found themselves but each other. The best part of it all is that it had great scenes of all different types of love and even better was that the Cora, Hayes and Ren truly accept and embrace who they are without any apologies. Roni Loren deserves credit for writing about a love we have all heard about but is often not accepted. My hats off to you Roni!

Excerpt:

Cora inhaled through her nose, trying to calm herself. She should be okay. The party was crowded and blending in shouldn’t be a problem.

She moved through the main part of the room, grabbing a glass of wine off a passing waiter’s tray and scanning faces for Grace. Usually her friend was hard to miss, but Cora didn’t see her blond head anywhere. Dammit.

She spotted a table in the farthest spot from the hallway. Two women were sitting there, but there was a chair free. She headed that way and retrieved her phone from her purse so she could text Grace.

The women looked up when she reached their table. Cora smiled. “Hi, do you mind if I sit?”

The older of the two women waved a hand. “Not at all, please do. We were just about to go to the bar anyway.”

“Oh, you don’t have to get up. I—”

But they were already up and gathering their things.

God. She was apparently wearing people repellant tonight. She resisted doing a sniff test to make sure her deodorant was working and then plopped down in one of the chairs. The last thing she wanted to do was sit at a table alone again, but she needed to text Grace, and standing around with no one to talk to looked even more conspicuous. She set down her wine so she could type two-thumbed.

Cora: Where r u??? #911

The message sent, but as Cora stared at the screen, no little dots popped up to indicate that Grace was responding. “Come on, where the hell are you?”

She opened up her favorites list, ready to call Grace until she answered, but before she could hit the button to dial, a hand planted on the table right next to Cora’s wine, rattling the glass.

She startled but didn’t look up. That hand was all she could focus on. Because somehow, she knew. Tan skin and long fingers, the edge of a colorful tattoo peeking out from a shirt cuff.

Cora prayed for a trap door. An eject button. An invisibility cloak.

None appeared.

In one fluid motion, the chair across from her was pulled out and dragged closer. Her guest slid into the spot. Uninvited. Unapologetic. His mere presence demanded she respond. There was a sense of… provocation. Almost a dare. Cora forced herself to look up.

Shit. The curse almost slipped out.

It was worse than she’d thought—the looking. The guy could’ve just stepped off the red carpet. Charcoal suit, plum-colored T-shirt, a mess of perfectly styled jet-black hair, and a face that was so beautiful it’d almost seem feminine if not for the hard angle of his jaw and the shadow of stubble. This was a guy who knew he looked good and wasn’t afraid to use it like a weapon.

He gave her an unreadable smile. “This seat taken?”

Her throat felt like it’d narrowed to nothing, but she forced words out. “Seems a little late to ask.”

The man’s coal eyes sparkled, like he was in on some eternal joke. And he was. He knew. Somehow in this sea of people he’d picked out the girl from the dark. He knew she’d just watched him get off in the hallway, and she couldn’t play it off.

“I’m sorry.” She blurted—too loud, too sharp. One hundred percent without grace. Fantastic.

He leaned back in his chair, grabbed a drink off a passing waiter’s tray, and hooked an ankle over his knee, looking like he could literally be comfortable anywhere with anyone. “You were there first. Maybe I should apologize. Though, what you were doing all alone in the dark has got me curious.”

She cleared her throat, trying to tap the brakes on her body’s railroading response to this man. He was a stranger, but they’d shared this intensely sexual moment. Her wires were crossed, her body confused. “I was just trying to find a quiet place to make a call. But I… couldn’t get a good signal. Then… you walked in with your… a woman.”

He smiled and his gaze strayed toward the bar. Cora couldn’t help but follow it. It’s like he’d put his hand on her head to make it turn. At the bar, a woman with a long ponytail and blue maxi dress was in the arms of a man with salt-and-pepper hair. They were kissing—a little too passionately for this kind of party.

And Cora couldn’t help it—she had the thought. Can he taste this man’s come on his girlfriend’s lips? The thought tripped a wire inside her. One it shouldn’t. Her cheeks burned. “If you’re worried that I’m going to say anything, I’m not. Not my business.”

“You’re right. It’s not.” Her companion looked back to her, a secret smile playing around the edges of his mouth. “But it wouldn’t matter if you did. He already knows. He was the one who set it up.”

Cora’s lips parted. On some level, she knew that kind of thing happened. She was no innocent. But she couldn’t hide her knee-jerk reaction or shake off the sense that this man was toying with her. “Then why did you come over here? If you’re not worried about me outing you?”

He frowned, a line appearing between his dark brows. “I don’t recognize you. Have you been to one of Grant’s parties before?”

She straightened. Technically, she wasn’t crashing this thing. Grace’s boss had been the one to get the invite and had let Grace come on his behalf with a plus one. But Cora suddenly felt one hundred percent out of her league and like she’d been left out of some joke. Not that she was going to let this guy know that. “No. Haven’t had time to get to one before now.”

“Well, then I’m over here because things seen out of context by those who don’t know what they’re looking at can be misconstrued and get people in trouble. From the outside looking in, what happened could look… non-consensual. I needed to make sure you understood.”

“You needed to cover your ass. Got it,” she said, unsure why it came out with a biting edge to it. “You’re good.”

His eyebrow arched and he shifted forward in his seat, bracing his forearms on his thighs and pinning her with that gaze. “Plus, I thought I should know the name of the woman who chose to stay and watch while another woman sucked me off.”

The words hit her like a stun gun. Zap! And all she could hear in her head was him saying, Suck it.

Suck. It.

She should be offended, disgusted. They should not be having this conversation. Instead, her heart tried to pound out of her chest and her skin went tingly. “You don’t need my name.”

“Mmm.” He nodded. “True. But you want to tell me anyway. Just like you wanted to stay longer and watch it all.”

So be prepared to be annoyed, aggravated and wanting to bitch-slap these three best friends.  However, you are also going to find yourself so sucked into their lives that you want to know what happens next with them.

Olivia, Emily and Dustin are all best friends.  Olivia goes away every summer to stay with her father.  However, this time around when she returns, things are slightly different.  Em  Dustin are now hanging with the popular crowd with Em getting high and drunk constantly and fooling around with the new guy, Ryan.  And Dustin is acting a little more jealous because he and Olivia did some things before she left to stay with her father.

Then the fallout- Olivia finds out she’s not the only one who had been fooling around with Dustin.  And while Ryan is messing around with Em, he’s obnoxiously flirting with Olivia.  Yea – it’s just one huge effing disaster waiting to blow up.

Then along comes Amanda who befriends Olivia.  Amanda is probably my favorite character in this book because she just doesn’t play games.  Everyone else just drives me nuts.  But I can walk away.  It’s like watching a damn car accident.  You know it’s not going to end well, but you just can’t stop watching everything play out.

I may not care for some of these characters but this book had me glued to my seat, waiting to see what happens next.  I am going to need lots of wine to get through this next book!

my-review

So I have now started this review about 10 times and still have no idea how to start it.   Jessica Sorensen is just awesome – that is all I can say.  She whips out books like clockwork and they are so damn good.

What Lies in the Darkness is an amazing YA suspense and thrilling read.  I actually thought of Veronica Mars while reading this – just this has a slight paranormal vibe going on along with a tad bit more intensity to it.

Mak and her four best friends are all so different yet the same.  They come from different backgrounds but none of them want to fit into the crowd – they are ok with being the outcasts.  And it’s because of that, they all find themselves delving deeper into a mystery they never expected.

The girls want to get revenge on the school’s biggest tormentor.  But what they end up doing, is walking into a very deeply rooted mystery of their down.  Mak is being threatened with her life but refuses to give up.  Will she up like her brother and father?  Who’s behind everything?  Who’s willing to standby and help her?

Jessica has really packed a lot into this first book.  There’s a lot of mystery surrounding a few characters and that just adds to the suspense of this all.  How do they all fit into the story?  What part do they play?  The book moves at a quick pace and Jessica keeps us on our toes with the ever twisting events.

I can’t wait to see what she brings us in the next book.

THE ONE REAL THING by Samantha Young

BLURB

Welcome to Hartwell, a quiet seaside escape where uncovering old secrets could lead one woman to discover the meaning of a love that lasts…

While Doctor Jessica Huntington engages with the inmates at the women’s correctional facility where she works, she’s always careful to avoid emotional attachments in her personal life.  Loss and betrayal taught her that lesson long ago. But when she comes across a set of old love letters in the prison’s library and visits the picturesque town of Hartwell to deliver them to their intended recipient, she finds herself unable to resist the town’s charm—and her attraction to the sexy owner of a local bar proves equally hard to deny.

Since his divorce from his unfaithful ex-wife, Cooper Lawson has focused on what really matters: his family and the boardwalk pub they’ve owned for generations.  But the first time Jessica steps into his bar, Cooper is beyond tempted to risk his heart on her.

Yet as their attraction grows hotter and Jessica remains stubbornly closed off, he begins to realize it will take more than just passion to convince her there’s only one real thing in life worth fighting for…

my-review

One Real Thing is exactly what I have come to love reading anything from Samantha Young.
Jessica is a doctor who works in a women’s prison.  She’s smart, sweet and has a huge heart. She ends up taking a vacation in small town after she comes across some interesting letters.
Cooper has been betrayed in the worst way and is finally in a good place in his life.  Then in walks Jessica.  And nothing is what either expects afterwards.  I love their interactions; it’s a slow build and that makes it all the more real and life-like.
I loved the small town that Samantha builds.  I loved all the details she provides and helps create the most vivid pictures.  The other characters, Emery, Archie, Bailey, and Vaughn are just as amazing and I can’t wait to get to know them more in future books. The town of Hartwell that Sam has created has me wanting to move this fictional place and meeting these characters.
I found myself laughing, grinning like a fool and awing while reading this book.  I can’t say enough about this book.  From the letters, to getting to know each character, to the ending, everything came full circle and it flowed beautifully.
I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series!

excerpt pic

Why did it feel like having sex had complicated things so much? Usually sex was complication-free for me.

But before that night I’d been completely sure that Cooper was interested in exploring something more with me, and now I was freaking out that his interest would wane now that he’d had me.

I shook my head slowly. “No. It was good.”

He scowled, his arms tightening around me so much there wasn’t an inch of space between us. “It was better than fucking good, Jessica.”

I scowled back and pushed at his chest for some breathing space. “Well, I’m sure you’d know all about that.”

“What the fuck does that mean?”

“You use the word ‘fuck’ a lot.”

“It’s a good fucking word.”

I was tempted to laugh at how disgruntled he sounded and he seemed to catch my amusement because his hold on me eased.

“What’s going on in your head, Jess?”

I thought about evading this conversation. I’d never had to have an adult, open conversation with a man about sex. However, I realized, somewhat reluctantly, if I wanted something more with Cooper Lawson I was going to have to give him more than I was used to giving.

I couldn’t change his past, but I could figure out what it was he wanted in the future by just being honest and asking the question.

“You still want something with me, right? This”—I gestured behind me to the table—“it wasn’t just about sex.”

“No,” he said. “It’s not just about sex.”

As I heaved a sigh of relief, he let go of my waist to cup my face in his hands, dipping his head down to mine so our noses almost touched. He stared deep into my eyes and I shivered. I felt like he was trying to see right into my soul.

“I’m in this for the long haul, Doc. I was before you walked into my bar tonight, but now, after the best fucking sex of my life, after how wild that was, there’s no way I’m letting you walk out of here without me.”

And there he went doing it again.

His words resonated deep within me along with giving me that deep, sexual belly flip of arousal.

My fingers curled into the top of his biceps. “Best sex of my life, too,” I murmured. “It stunned me a little. Confused me . . . I thought maybe . . . you . . . this was old hat for you . . .”

He gave me a crooked grin. “You think I make a habit of fucking women in my bar.”

“You could,” I said. “You are definitely a man who could pull that off.”

Cooper threw his head back in laughter and I pressed my body deeper into his to feel his joy.

And then he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me.

Just as I’d suspected, he was a really good hugger.

When he pulled back he was smiling gently at me. “You’re the only woman I’ve had in my bar.” He let me go only to take my hand in his. “No one sits at that table anymore.” He gestured to the scene of the best sex we’d both ever had. “It’s now a shrine.”

“You can’t do that!” I was mortified at the possibility of people finding out why there was a table in Cooper Lawson’s bar that no one was allowed to sit at.

“I can. It’s my bar. I think I’ll even carve ‘Coop and Doc were here’ on it.”

Finally getting that he was joking, I made a face. “Funny.”

“You’re slow on the uptake tonight,” he teased.

“My brain was just frazzled by the orgasm to beat all orgasms.”

He squeezed my hand. “You up for more brain frazzling?”

I shivered at the thought. “Definitely.”

His eyes darkened. “Let’s go back to my place.”

Exhilarated by the prospect, I followed him, and it wasn’t until we’d stepped outside the bar into the cool night air that I said, “I don’t suppose you know where my panties are?”

“I do, actually.” He led me to the back of his bar to the parking lot. A dark-colored GMC was the only truck there.

“Um . . . could I have them, please?”

He stopped me at the passenger side of the truck, pressing me up against the car. “Why?” he whispered against my lips before he kissed me deeply. He came up for air a few seconds later. “You’re not going to need them where we’re going.”

The nagging pressure between my legs increased. “You are so very, very good at stringing the exact right words together.”

He kissed me again.

“You’re just good with your mouth in general,” I murmured.

Cooper grinned and brushed his lips over mine. “In the truck, Doc.”

Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen…Release Tour, Review & Excerpt

rookie-move

Synopsis:

The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold…

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast….

Excerpt:

“Come right this way,” Georgia heard her coworker and roommate Becca say, the clomp of her Dr. Martens echoing through the grand old passageway. “Nate is excited to meet you.” Becca was the owner’s assistant, and Georgia lingered half a second to wave her down and offer her a donut, too.

But Becca didn’t happen to look in Georgia’s direction as she led a tall man down the corridor. Something about his gait snagged Georgia’s subconscious. So she took a second look.

And that’s when her heart took off like a manic bunny rabbit. Because she knew that man. She knew the chiseled shape of his masculine jaw, and the length of his coal-black eyelashes.

Oh my God.

Omigod, omigod, omigod.

“How was your flight?” Becca asked him, oblivious to the fact that Georgia was spying.

“Not too bad. I got in late last night.”

The sound of his voice fluttered right inside Georgia’s chest. It was the same smoky sweet timbre that used to whisper into her ear while they made love. She hadn’t let herself remember that sound in a long time.

Now it was giving her goosebumps. The good kind.

“Welcome to Brooklyn,” Becca said while Georgia trembled. “Are you familiar with the area?”

“Grew up about thirty miles from here,” he answered while chills broke out across her back.

Holding her breath, Georgia eased her office door further closed, until only a couple of inches remained. She could not be caught like this—freaked-out and speechless, hiding behind a door.

The movement caught Becca’s eye, though. Georgia saw her turn her head in her direction and then pick her out in the crack where the door was still open. Becca raised one eyebrow—the one with the barbell piercing in it.

All Georgia could do was close her eyes and pray that Becca wouldn’t call out a greeting.

There was a pause before Georgia heard Becca say, “Right this way, please.”

Quietly, Georgia stepped into her office and shut the door. After flipping on the light, she let her briefcase and pocketbook slide right to the floor. Only the folder that Nate had given her was still in her shaking hands. She flipped it open, her eyes searching for the new player’s name on the page.

But she didn’t even need the paperwork to confirm what her racing heart had already figured out. The newest player for the Brooklyn Bruisers was none other than Leonardo “Leo” Trevi, a six-foot-two, left-handed forward. Also known as her high school boyfriend, the boy she’d loved with all her heart until the day that she’d dumped him. And now he was here?

“Thanks, universe,” she whispered into the stillness of her office.

My Review:

Rookie Move is the first book in a new series from author Sarina Bowen and admittedly the first of her works that I’ve read.  Well, with a hero like Leo Trevi, I was totally hooked and will be looking forward to more from this author and this series.

Who doesn’t love a good true-love-reunion story?  From the very beginning I was intrigued as to what could have happened in Georgia and Leo’s past and why, even though they clearly still had feelings for one another, they had gone their separate ways.  I especially loved how Leo made no bones about letting Georgia, and his team, know she still held his heart.  Of course that leads to a whole lot of delicious back and forth and tension where Leo sets off on winning Georgia back.  Is there anything hotter than a big burly man having a weakness for his woman?  Nope!  Now, of course there was a pained bit of history between them and once I found out why they had split up, it broke my heart.  It was totally understandable and I loved that the time between then and now gave them both a chance to grow separately because now they are just perfect together *dreamy sigh*.  Oh, and the ending?  Completely, off the charts, swoon worthy!!

I also loved the dynamic between Leo’s teammates and I suspect this is a group of guys I am going to love getting to know as the series progresses!

Thank you, Ms. Bowen, for a hat trick of a read!

My Review:

Knocked Out By Love is part of Abby Niles’ Love to the Extreme series and while I haven’t had a chance to read the entire series just yet, I have read the first book and now this latest installment…and loved it!

One of my favorite things about a series like this one is being able to pick it up at any time and not be lost.  Each book focuses on one couple and although you will see the other characters in the series pop in and out of the book, it doesn’t affect the reader’s ability to enjoy a great read.

This story focuses on Brody and Scarlett. I really enjoy a friends to lovers story and in this case, a dash of forbidden romance was added in when Brody had been hiding his love of his best friend’s wife, Scarlett.  Luckily for Brody, Scarlett’s husband turns out to be one heck of a giant asshat and Brody may finally have a shot with her.  Of course, he has to battle all sorts of internal struggles when it comes to her and is he really should go after her.  Man, I love those battles and I love when a woman has the power to bring a big, strong fighter to his knees.

Scarlett is a gal on a mission and is determined to get her groove back when life throws her a curve ball.  I loved her tenacity and I love her with Brody.  Together they are sexy and sweet and I loved reading their relationship go from friendship to so much more.

The Love to the Extreme series is one I will continue to look forward to more of and I can’t wait to see what’s next!  Thank you, Ms. Niles, for a kick butt read!
