From the first day I met Racer McKay, I knew our interaction was going to be incredibly brief. First impressions really do matter and unfortunately, I didn’t make a very good one.

At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I was never going to see this man again, right?

Wrong! When I’m met with the opportunity of a lifetime, there is only one man in the state of New York who can assist me. And can you guess who it is?

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

So, we reluctantly join forces.

Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.

*Twisted Twosome is a stand alone romantic comedy.

Meghan Quinn, I love you so hard!! Please do not ever stop writing! Twisted Twosome is Racer’s story – we met him in My Best Friend’s Ex and I am so glad that he got his own story!!

As with a lot of Meghan’s books, this is a romantic comedy. Meghan really has a niche for this genre. She’s never too over the top with the antics or silliness. She has a perfect blend of humor and romance with some added angst to make the story come together. While, some things are sort of cheesy, I love that Meghan herself points these things out and it just really makes the book all the more enjoyable. But it’s truly her balance of everything that makes her rom-com books stand out.

“You learn to live freely when you lose a piece of your heart.”

In Twisted Twosome, Racer has to take on side construction jobs to help keep his afloat with all the bills piling up on him. He lost his dad, while he does miss him and the memories, he doesn’t wallow in that grief, he does his best to be what his dad taught him. He doesn’t do the whole pity party and does what he can to earn extra money. Which is how he comes to working for Gerogiana (Georgie) and doing the construction on her business adventure.

Georgie isn’t exactly who Racer thinks she is. She comes from a very affluent family and the few times he’s had to deal with her, she’s always be flouncing around her kitten heels and having her family’s staff wait on her. And Georgie saw him as the rude and arrogant asshole he is when he opens his mouth to tell her off when she cost him a huge chunk of money because of her prancing around in her heels. Yea, these two hit off real well!!

“Make mistkaes, tell the worst truth rather than the best lie, love hard, and be the better man.”

Meghan did an amazing job writing this whole story. The interactions from Georgie and Racer are hilarious and quite entertaining. They hold nothing back from one another, and this just adds to the boiling chemistry between the two. While these two may work the other nerves to the very end, they are both fighting an obvious attraction that is just boiling over at every turn.

The secondary characters definitely add to the humor and crazy. Tucker and Emma make their appearance with their wedding and we get brief glimpses of Adalyn and Smalls. We also meet Georgie’s family (Abe and Averly and her borther Spencer, the playboy) along with her best friend Madison. I am interested to see who Meghan writes about next, but if the ending is any indication, I am thinking it will be Adalyn.

Another fantastic rom-com from Meghan Quinn!!

Excerpt:

“Thanks for lunch, I haven’t had a fine peanut butter and jelly sandwich in quite some time.” Racer takes a giant bite from one of three sandwiches I made him. The man can eat; I just want to know where he puts it all. “What is this, crunchy peanut butter?” He looks over the sandwich, studying it intently.
“Yes, it’s crunchy with mixed berry jam.”
He nods and takes another bite. He talks with his mouth full, which for some weird reason makes him oddly adorable. “Nice touch, George. The peanuts add a nice texture.”
“Are you going all food critic on my PB and J skills right now?”
Lifting his shirt, he dabs away some of the sweat that’s collecting on his forehead, beneath his backward hat. His abs flex with the movement, drawing my attention. Each divot calling out to me to touch, to examine . . . to lick.
“I think every human should be judged on their PB and J skills.”
I pull my eyes away from his stomach just in time not to get caught staring. “Why do you think that?”
“Because,” he takes another bite, “I think building a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is in everyone’s repertoire, but only the truly skilled know how to make a proper one. And I want to be friends with the truly skilled.”
“Is that so?” I take a drink of my green tea and study him for a second, watching the way the muscles in his jaw move with each bite and swallow. It’s sexy.
His neck is sexy? Is that possible?
“So where do I land on your scale of sandwich artists?”
He smiles from my term, and I realize how much I adore his boyish charm. Pulling his eyes away from me, he examines one of the sandwiches I made him and starts assessing it. “Good ratio of peanut butter to jelly. Nice choice in bread. The crunch you added has been a pleasant surprise, and the mixed berry jam is fucking delightful.” I giggle from his girly term. “But . . .”
I perk up; there’s a but? “But what?”
He quirks his mouth to the side, almost to say, “Sorry, but you’re not quite perfect.” “The bread, it should have been toasted. Toasting it would have taken you to boss level when it comes to the PB and J.”
“Toasting it?”
He nods and takes another bite. “When you don’t toast a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the peanut butter and bread form a paste on the roof of your mouth. Even though it tastes good, it can get quite irritating.”
“But I didn’t have a toaster.”
“Rookie mistake.”
“Well, If I knew I was going to be critiqued, I would have sprung for bacon.”
He pauses mid bite and stares at me over his sandwich. “You’re a beast for bringing up the option.”
I polish off the rest of my sandwich and wipe my fingers. “Well, maybe next time you’ll communicate expectations better. I’m not a mind reader, Racer. Frankly, the fact I didn’t make boss level is on you, not me.”
I stand and gather my trash as he stares me down. “Don’t you turn this on me. You didn’t have a toaster. The toaster is what’s key. This is on you, Georgie. This is on you!” he calls out as I make my way to the back, laughing to myself the entire time.

About the Author:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Loving Kalvin by Siobhan Davis….Review

BOOK BLURB:
A friends-to-lovers second-chance romance from USA Today bestseller Siobhan Davis. Standalone with HEA and no cliffhanger.

Lana
I knew it would end in disaster, but I didn’t listen to reason. I didn’t care. Because I loved him so much.
Kalvin Kennedy ruled my heart.
Until he destroyed it.
Shattered it so completely that I became someone else. Someone I loathed. Someone who repeatedly lied to her loved ones.
So, I ran.
From him. From myself. Desperate to hide my new reality.
But I could only run so far.
When he reappears in my life, I’m terrified. Unbelievably scared of facing the consequences of my actions.
Never mind that I still love him and want him so badly—there’s too much at stake now.
How can I trust him with the biggest secret of all when he’s likely to rip my world apart again?

Kalvin
Lana was always far too good for me. Everyone knew it but her.
I tried to stay away, but I was weak.
And I hurt her.
Crushed her until she barely resembled herself. Forced her to follow a path she would never have willingly chosen.
And then she was gone.
And my world has never felt as empty, as lonely.
She begged me to stay away. Not to find her. To forget she ever existed.
But that’s like asking me to slice my heart in two and toss half aside.
I’ve never believed in fate, but when I rock up to the University of Florida, I’m ready to eat my words.
Because she’s here. Like I hoped she would be. And I’m determined to prove I deserve a second chance.

“An emotional and heart touching story. I am looking forward to the next adventure in the Kennedy saga.” Jacquelyn. Goodreads reviewer

Loving Kalvin is the 4th book in Siobhan’s The Kennedy Boys series. It is a standalone, however, if you want to understand the true meaning behind Kalvin and Lana’s history, I would highly recommend reading the previous three books, which you do need to read in order.

Quick background:

Kalvin and Lana have known each other since they were two. But they were never on the same level in society’s eyes. He was the rich boy and she was the daughter of the help. As they got older, Kalvin denied whatever he was feeling for Lana and in her eyes, strung her along while he played the field with every other girl. Lana ended up doing the unthinkable and in her blind hate and rage, accused of him rape, something she knew wasn’t true. She requited her statement in court but asked that he leave her alone and never look for her.

And that’s where this Loving Kalvin starts off. Lana is now enrolled at UF and trying to move on with her life. She has changed her name so that people don’t recognize her so easily and hopefully prevents Kalvin from ever finding her.

Kalvin finally got his shit together and realized that his feelings for Lana were never going to dissipate and that he needed to prove to her he was in it for the long run. But he also knows that he has a lot to prove of himself to her.

If you have read any of Siobhan’s other books in this series, this book doesn’t have the deep angst and drama that the others have. And it shouldn’t. Kalvin and Lana story is about second changes, learning to trust and love again. These two have gone through a lot and now they are trying to move forward, together.

I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of Lana because of what she did. Even after reading this book, I am still on the fence with her. She is very selfish and uses excuses to explain away her decisions. I will be honest, Kalvin is a damn saint for being able to forgive her for everything and wanting to have that second chance. Without giving any of the twists away, Lana isn’t completely honest with Kal when they start to rekindle what they have, and her dishonesty with him is way worse than her wrongful accusation of rape.

I know many are thinking, if you don’t like one of the main characters, how could you rate the book with 4 stars. Let me explain myself – Siobhan was able to write a character that I am sure she no doubt knew her readers wouldn’t care for initially but would maybe empathize with once we got her story. In my case, no, I still didn’t like her. I don’t hate her, but I am not a Lana fan at all.

For me, it’s the fact that she is able to write an amazing story with characters I may love and/or hate that I rate this book so high. When an author is able to make the story so damn good, that I actually want to smack characters upside their heads because of their actions, that’s a damn good book!

Loving Kalvin is an enthralling and emotional story. Siobhan really knows how to bring out all the stops and keep you rooted in the story with the ups and downs of a great love story. Another enticing read from Siobhan.

Chasing Vivi by A.M. Hargrove…Blog Tour & Review

Chasing Vivi by A.M. Hargrove

Release Date: July 13th
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Chasing Vivi, an all-new romantic standalone from A.M. Hargrove is available NOW!

VIVI

Vivi Renard—a blast from the past—wasn’t supposed to affect me like this.

When I knew her ten years ago she was nothing more to me than a highly functioning brain.

Hell, I paid her to do my homework.

Only now … she’s drop dead gorgeous but had the nerve to turn me down for a date … several times.

No one turns me—Prescott Beckham—down for anything.

I’m on a mission and won’t stop until I’m firmly planted between her thighs, hearing her moan my name.

Her plump red lips have me dreaming filthy things and acting like a kid with his first crush.

If I can’t have her, I don’t want anyone else to either.

What’s worse is I want to own every single bit of her.

Except there’s a slight problem.

Vivi can’t stand me.

Even the old let’s be friends again thing failed.

She tossed it back saying we were never friends to begin with.

But I’m the king at playing ruthless games.

So she’d better be ready to drop her thong, because Vivi is going to end up in my bed sooner … or later.

And I’m pretty damn sure it’s going to be sooner.

Excerpt:

Vivi rubs her hands on her thighs. She’s nervous and has been ever since I stood over the table. She seems to have more confidence in herself now than she had when I knew her but that doesn’t account for her skittishness. Back at Crestview, she had been overweight—I knew that—only I didn’t know, or maybe I didn’t pay attention, to the other girls giving her a hard time. And why should I have? I had so much going on in my head I could barely keep my own shit together.

“So?” I prod. “Homework binder?”

“You did a pretty good job with me. I only figured you put the other girls in the same boat. You know, with the homework stuff and all.”

“I had you wrapped around my homework binder at Crestview. That’s your metaphor for finger.”

It’s not a question. I’m baffled because I had no idea. Yeah, I was a flirt, but I flirted with everyone to get what was necessary. It was the only way I knew how to accomplish my goals. She needed the money and always acted like she had no interest in me whatsoever.

“Of course. You had everyone wrapped around your finger. Well, maybe more of them were wrapped around your, um.” She points in the direction of my dick.

Sexy little Vivi can’t say dick out loud. Isn’t that the cutest thing in the world?

“Say it, Vivi.”

“Say what?”

“You know what.” I lean into her and get close to her lips. “Say it.”

Her chest puffs out as she says, “Dick.” Her lovely neck flushes pink and two bright spots of fuchsia dot her cheeks. This is sweet innocence at its utmost.

“Excellent. Now say cock.” I put a great deal of emphasis on the “c” and “k” at the end of the word. Silver gray irises turn stormy and deep creases form on her forehead.

“Why would you want me to say that word?”

“Because it makes you uncomfortable as hell and I’m an asshole. I like to see you squirm, Vivi.”

“I won’t say that. It has nothing to do with truth or dare. And besides, it’s my turn.”

I take a couple of good slugs of my drink, sit back, and cross my arms. “Do your worst.”

She puts an elbow on the table and rests her cheek on her hand. “Truth or dare?”

“Dare.” It’s impossible not to laugh at her comical expression. I curtailed her plans.

“You can’t do that!”

“Do what?”

“Pick dare.”

“I most certainly can.”

Her head tilts back, and I can only imagine what she’s thinking. A chuckle escapes.

“You’re a jerk,” she says.

“So I’ve been told.”

“Okay, then. I dare you to tell me why you loathe the man you’ve become.” She gloats at the clever way she’s twisted the game. And stupid me should’ve figured out she’d come up with something like this. Vivi was always brilliant.

“Loathe is extreme. Let’s say I’m not particularly fond of who I am right now.”

“Fine. Go on.”

Now I’m the one who’s squirming. Where do I even begin? Vivi is almost a stranger to me. There’s no way I can bare my pathetic soul to her.

“I have daddy issues.”

“Really?” Her question is one of disbelief and she appears to be holding back a laugh.

“Hard to believe, isn’t it?”

“Um, yeah. Prescott Beckham, the guy with the world at his fingertips, has daddy issues? I think not. I Googled you after I ran into you that day. From all accounts I read there were no daddy issues to be found. Nada. Try again.”

“I have a team that keeps my secrets out of the media. You wouldn’t find anything on me. But it’s true. I grew up without a mom and my father was not much of one. So, there you have it.” I give her one of my best smirks. It usually does the trick on most women.

She leans back and tucks her chin closer to her body. “That’s it? And I’m supposed to buy that?”

“That’s all I have for sale, Little Wolf. Sorry.”

“You’re not a very fair player.”

“My turn.”

“Nope. I’m done.” She drinks another swig of her beer.

“No, you aren’t. I’m picking for you. Truth. How many men have you fucked, Vivi? And what exactly have they done to you?”

She shoves her arms into her coat and pushes at me to get out of the booth. But I have zero intentions of going anywhere. “Let me out, Prescott.”

“Not until you answer me.”

“That’s none of your business. How many women have you been with?”

“Too many to count.”

Her jaw flops open and I close her mouth with a finger under her chin.

“You asked, Little Wolf.”

Chasing Vivi is a second chance, frenemies to lovers to romance.

Vivi and Prescott went to Crestview together where they really weren’t friends but they also didn’t hate one another – they knew of each other. One thing neither expected was to run into the other in their later years of life.

Vivienne Renard was known to all as the smart, fat girl at their private school. She dealt with constant bullying and hated every day of attending school. But she did it for her mom – she never complained because of how much her mom worked to keep Vivi there.

Prescott Beckham was the rich, hot boy in their private school. Girls flocked to him and he never really have to lift a finger to get anything done. The most he had to do was pay Vivi to do his homework so he wouldn’t flunk out.

Years later, Prescott runs into Vivi at her work, where he is floored by what he sees. Vivi looks and acts nothing like herself from their high school days. She is confident, beautiful and tells Prescott to pretty much fuck off. And that doesn’t do anything but light the fire under Prescott’s because well, he’s never been told no.

I really enjoyed this story – the ugly ducking turning into a beautiful swan. But it’s not just about that. Vivi never once uses her new found beauty as a tool to use in her favor. It’s her head-strong demeanor that keeps Prescott’s attention more than anything. She challenges him in ways he’s never expected. Vivi makes Prescott want to be a better person; however he himself has some obstacles to overcome.

Vivi and Prescott both have their own issues to work through. I love watching them both grow and have these epiphanies of how immature and dumb they are acting at times. It really makes the book relatable and the characters more realistic. I will say that this story is a slow burn, but it doesn’t deter or make you want to stop. You enjoy the progression of watching these two grow and fall in love, slowly, like it should be.

A.M. has always been able to make her stories come to life and that is why I enjoy her books so much. So if you have never read anything by her, this is definitely a book you should read and see what I mean.

WHAT IN THE HELL DID I JUST READ!?!?!?! Talk about WOW!

When I was contacted my Tiffany Reisz’s publicist to read an arc of her upcoming release, I jumped at the chance. I have to be honest, I have never read any of Tiffany’s work before (yes, I know, I have been missing out on ALOT), but I have heard nothing but great things so I was excited for this opportunity.

Tiffany Reisz is the first author to ever push me outside my boundaries with this book. And let me tell you, I have some extremely high boundaries, even when it comes to erotica. But this one, yea, I got a tad unsettled with some scenes (beastiality – not my cuppa tea at all). Tiffany definitely knows how to write unique and cringe-worthy scenes. So please, if you can’t stomach more than soft book porn (or even soft book porn), this book will not be for you at all; unless you want to push your boundaries, then by all means – GO FOR IT!!

I won’t go into any specifics of what occurs in this book. It is very fast paced and Tiffany dives right into the heart of this book. Tiffany holds nothing back in her writing. And I love how she has woven the arts into this and the history behind these great pieces. While I was cringing during certain scenes, I was still intrigued to see where this book would go. I did figure out the whole underlying mystery before it was revealed, but I still enjoyed how Tiffany made everything come full circle.

Overall, this book was very good. Even though it pushed my boundaries, I am glad that I forced myself to continue on and not allow small parts to ruin the book completely for me. And I did find myself looking up pieces of art that were mentioned in this book and learning more about the artists and the history. Tiffany’s tie-in of the arts was an integral part of this plot line and I really enjoyed that aspect.

Trusting You and Other Lies by Nicole Williams…Blog Tour & Review

AP new - synopsis.jpg
USA Today and New York Times bestselling author Nicole Williams delivers a seductive summer romance worth swooning over. Perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Stephanie Perkins.

Phoenix can’t imagine anything worse than being shipped off to family summer camp. Her parents have been fighting for the past two years–do they seriously think being crammed in a cabin with Phoenix and her little brother, Harry, will make things better?
On top of that, Phoenix is stuck training with Callum–the head counselor who is seriously cute but a complete know-it-all. His hot-cold attitude means he’s impossible to figure out–and even harder to rely on. But despite her better judgment, Phoenix is attracted to Callum. And he’s promising Phoenix a summer she’ll never forget. Can she trust him? Or is this just another lie?
It felt like hardly any time had passed at all before the bike slowed when we made it into Flagstaff. Callum took a sudden turn that led away from the main part of the city, and we weren’t on that road long before it opened up into a parking lot.
My arms tightened around him when I scanned the parking lot. Other than the bike’s headlight, I couldn’t make out any-thing else.
“Okay, we’re stopped now. Think you could ease up your death grip on me before you crush my liver?” He parked the bike and turned off the engine.
It was so quiet out here. Scary quiet. “Where are we?” I loosened my grip, but I didn’t let go.
He glanced at me over his shoulder. “Don’t you like a surprise?”
“Not when I’m in the middle of some dark parking lot late at night.”
Callum fought a smile. “It’s barely eight. Not quite the witching hour.”
An owl hooted from somewhere in the woods. I jumped. “Where the hell are we?”
He stopped fighting his smile. “The Lowell Observatory. Perfectly safe and nonthreatening, I swear.”
“What are we observing?”
Callum waited for my arms to drop at my sides before sliding off the bike. “Pretty much anything you want to up there.” He tipped his head and looked up at the sky.
My head followed. “The stars? That’s what we’re going to be looking at?”
“Stars, moons, planets. Take your pick.” He helped me undo the helmet’s chin strap after I fought with it on my own for a few seconds. “This is one of my favorite places.”
“In Arizona?”
“Anywhere,” he answered, pulling a small flashlight from his pocket and turning it on. He pointed it in the direction of a sidewalk and started toward it, making sure I was close beside him.
“How many times have you been here?” I asked.
“I come a few times every summer, more when I was coming here with my family.”
I kept my focus on the light in front of us. With that bright beam, the black didn’t seem so thick around us.
“So are you into astronomy?” I asked.
“You could say that.” When another owl hooted, I didn’t leap out of my boots. This time I barely flinched. Callum’s presence calmed me. “But I didn’t know it the first time I came. I only started getting into astronomy a few years ago.”
“Why did you first start coming here?” We were getting closer to what I guessed was the observatory, but nothing about it screamed tourist attraction.
“It was Ben’s idea, I guess. He knew about the trouble my brother was getting into at home and that I was following in his footsteps. He has this freaky way of looking at a person and knowing what they’re feeling or what they’re thinking. Those first couple of summers at camp he used to be able to take one look at me and know when I was about to do something I’d probably regret.” He paused and shook his head. “I really hated Ben at first.”
“And now you love him.” I nudged him as we approached a doorway.
“And now I respect him. I appreciate what he’s doing and why he does it.” He turned off the flashlight and held open the door for me.
“So your mom would bring you here to look up at the sky and your problems were solved?”
He chuckled softly. “That’s what Ben tried to sell. He said there was nothing like looking up at the universe to make my problems shrivel into nonexistence.”
“Is that doubt I’m detecting in your voice?”
“That’s I- know- better- from- experience in my voice.” Callum
waved at a lady sitting behind a counter at the front and led me inside. It was dark in here, too, which made me shift a bit closer to Callum. “Ben tried really hard to sell me on the perspective thing, but, I don’t know, looking up at the stars or thinking about the size of the universe didn’t make my issues seem any smaller or less significant. They were still the exact same size when I walked out of this place.”
“Then why did you keep coming back?” I asked as he stopped behind the biggest telescope I’d seen in real life.
“Because it got me out of my head, you know?” he answered immediately. “It got me to focus on something else for a while, and even though I’d leave here with the same problems I walked in with, they felt more manageable. More like I could handle them.”
I hadn’t expected him to open up like that. That was becoming a trend when it came to Callum. One minute he came off as the most closed- off person I’d ever met, and the next he could spill his guts. “And then you fell in love with the stars,” I said, watching him as he looked through the telescope, making a few adjustments on the dials.
“And then I did.” He made one last adjustment before motioning me to look. Even though it was dark, his eyes were glowing. I’d seen him in his element this summer, but never like this. If this wasn’t passion, I wasn’t sure I’d ever seen it.
“So you’re saying this place has played a totally insignifi-cant role in your life?” I smiled at him as I moved up to the telescope.
“Completely insignificant.” He stepped aside to give me room to look.
I wound my hair around one shoulder, closed one eye, and leaned over so I could peek through the eyepiece. I could have been looking at a star just as easily as I could have been looking at a planet or a moon. I didn’t feel my problems drifting away from me by the masses, disappearing into the Milky Way, but just like Callum had said, somehow they felt less overwhelming. Less powerful.
The longer I stared up there, the stronger I felt down here. “I get it,” I whispered after another minute, feeling like the entire universe was staring back at me as I gazed into it.
He took a step closer. “I knew you would.”

Nicole never fails to deliver on a YA romance novel. And this one I enjoyed a little more because it wasn’t just solely focused on the romance side of things; it also focused on Phoenix and her family and how they fumble through some rough patches thrown their way.

Phoenix is heading into her senior of high school. She’s been used to going to same school her whole life, living a fairly privileged life and has set her sites on an elite college. She’s your typical sassy teenager who’s not so eager to be spending her whole summer with her family at Camp Kisme. She’s got the mindset that this will be the summer from hell and she won’t enjoy a minute of it. Especially since her parents haven’t been getting along and she knows that they are keeping secrets from her and her brother, Harry. She feels as though her life is slowing going to hell – typical teenager when things are going their way.

What Phoenix doesn’t expect is Callum. Or to actually enjoy being a counselor at Camp Kismet. Or to watch her brother become this kid whose come into his own. Or find trust in her parents again. What she doesn’t expect is anything that actually happens.

Nicole wrote a brilliant story. Phoenix and her family struggle through some difficult things. Phoenix learns a lot about herself and grows more mature. While the beginning was a tad slow for me, the last 60% made up for it. While I knew how things were going to end, I still really enjoyed this book.

If you enjoy YA books, you definitely don’t want to pass this one up. It’s a cute coming of age story.

EXCERPT:

“This life is not glamorous,” Duke told her. “We travel constantly. We sleep on the ground most nights. When we’re not in danger from storms, we’re in danger in cities where we are considered criminals. This life is not for the faint of heart.”

“There are things I do not know, things I will have to learn. But I am capable. I am familiar with sacrifice. I know what it is to make hard choices.”

“Tell me you’re not considering this,” Locke said to Duke.

The old man was silent for a long moment, both Locke and Roar looking to him for support. Duke rubbed at his mustache, a habit of his when he was thinking deeply. “Let’s think about this, Locke. She’s smart. And determined.”

“She’s a child.”

Roar’s shoulders hunched in Locke’s peripheral vision, and he swallowed back the guilt. He could apologize later. For now, it was imperative that he won this argument.

You were a child when I brought you into the fold,” Duke said. “She’s a young woman with a good head on her shoulders. And if this is what she wants, I’m inclined to at least hear her out.”

Just like that, Roar’s shoulders straightened, and Locke turned to watch a devastating smile bloom across her mouth. His weakness when it came to her only made him more cross.

“What skills do you have?” he snapped at Roar.

“Skills?”

“Yes, skills. What can you do? Or do you just plan to tag along for the ride?”

A flush spread over her cheeks, and her voice was tentative when she answered, “I’m good on a horse. Very good.”

Where in the world would she have learned to ride? He quickly hardened his expression. “Horses are fine for travel, but they don’t do well in storms. They, unlike you, have good survival instincts.”

As soon as the words were out of his mouth, Locke could have sworn he felt an updraft—the first sign that bad weather could occur—and he knew that this time he had pushed too far.

Roar marched toward him, spearing a finger into his chest and said, “I can read and write. I can speak Taraanese, Finlaghi, and Odilarian. I can read maps. I know enough about grassland vegetation and wildlife to survive without a market to buy food and drink. I’m good with knives and a bow. I learn quickly, and I’m not afraid of hard work. And I’ve spent my entire life reading as much about storms as I could get my hands on.” For a moment, her voice cracked under the weight of her anger, but she took a huffing breath and continued: “I’m good with numbers. It’s been a while, but I think I can probably still draw the constellations from memory, which should make me decent at navigation. I can—“

“Enough.” Locke’s voice came out in a deep rasp. He captured her long, delicate finger in his fist before she could continue poking him. He felt short of breath at the sight of her—livid and lovely. “Enough.”

The old Locke might have kept arguing, and Roar would have met him toe-to-toe. But if becoming a storm hunter had taught him anything, it was that fighting head-on wasn’t always the way to win. Sometimes strategy was required. He met Duke’s eyes over her shoulder, and if he had thought Roar looked smug before, she had nothing on his mentor. The man raised his eyebrows in a challenge and asked, “You?”

He hated the idea of bringing someone into this dangerous life, but if it was going to happen regardless, he sure as hell wouldn’t hand her safety over to anyone else, not even Ransom. And at the very least, it would give him the opportunity to change her mind. He gritted his teeth and nodded his acceptance.

I really enjoy Cora Carmack’s books and love Fantasy reads. So when I heard she was writing one, I had to read this one. However, I did keep myself for getting too excited and setting my expectations high. I’ve learned from past experiences that high expectations have often lead to extreme letdowns so I didn’t want to go through any of that again.

Thankfully, with Roar that was not the case at all. One of the main reasons I love fantasy reads is due to the world building. This is what sets this genre apart from all the others. If I can’t picture the world the author is trying to build their story around, I can’t connect to anything else in the book, not even the characters. Cora does a magnificent job of creating this world in her own unique way. I have how everything is intricately planned out with the storm elements.

Roar/Aurora is the next in line for the throne. But she’s not quite ready to take on her crown. Roar finds herself running off with storm chasers and learning a lot about herself and falling in love. The romance in this book was the only portion I had a hard time stomaching. I found myself at times rolling my eyes, but overall, it did not take away from the story or the characters. There are quite a few characters in this book but they all play an important role to Roar. While it’s hard to find any connections to them because we don’t get to know any of them well, I didn’t find myself caring too much about that. There were some I like more than others, but they all play a part that is needed.

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this book. The world building is fascinating – how special people are able to destroy various storms. The storms themselves were quite interesting as they had emotions and acted out on those. Really quite entertaining and different. And that characters just added to everything. I won’t give you details of the story, the love interests and how her journey plays out. I won’t take that excitement away from you as you read. Knowing what to expect just kills the overall vibe, at least to me it does.

Roar is a book you definitely want to read, especially if you are fan of fantasy reads. If you’ve enjoyed any of Cora’s pervious books, I have no doubt you will really like this one, regardless if you read fantasy or not.

Ilsa and Tia definitely make an amazing writing duo. The Last Guy is a very sweet and easy read with some hot and steamy sex scenes mixed in.

The story is told from both Cade and Rebecca’s POV. And what makes it even better, I really have no idea who wrote what or which character. The book flowed easily and I enjoyed reading the story from both sides of the spectrum. I loved that these characters were a bit older and were much more relatable in that respect.

If you read the blurb, then you know the idea behind the story. I won’t give you any details of how things play out but I will tell you that Ilsa and Tia not only wrote strong lead characters, but two of their secondary characters were awesome. Chas and Trent – these two stole my heart. I love Chas’ upbeat attitude and Trent is just one of those gay best friends everyone wants to have. I really hope that these two get a book – perhaps together or not. LOL

The Last Guy should definitely be on everyone’s TBR list that loves a great romance without all the angst involved.

Sexy, laugh-out-loud funny, and sweet at times, this series is all about exploring romance tropes like friends to lovers, fake fiancé, arranged marriage, surprise pregnancy, budding office romances, and more, that all share one fabulous thing in common–they end in a happily ever after.

FAMED by Magan Vernon:

On the heels of Mary James leaked sex tape – totally a fake one to make her boyfriend jealous she might add- she needs some PR help if she ever wants her acting career to end up in a fiery hell like her love life.

Chris Garcia has been working his way up from mail room clerk to junior associate at Tate & Cane and now to get to the next rung of the corporate ladder he has to take on the firm’s toughest client: Mary James.

With a little help from a nosey Aunt Rosita and Mama Garcia, the two decide the best way to move forward is simple: a fake relationship.

But what happens when something fake gets to be too real and FAME gets involved?

One-Night Stand-In – T. Gephart

Sarah Madison loved working at Tate & Cane Enterprises.

While she looked and, for the most part, acted conservatively—she was a gladiator in the boardroom. The fast-paced, energetic work environment not only fed her need for corporate blood but also allowed her to work for one of her role models, Olivia Cane—living proof a woman really can have it all.

And after months of paying her dues, she was finally offered the promotion she’d been vying for. Which was great, except for the fact she had to share the position with a new guy they brought in especially for the role.

Kyle Drake was smart, experienced, and probably just as good, if not better, in negotiations. And if she wasn’t careful, prove he could do the job without her. Add in good-looking and an incredibly sexy smooth talker, and everyone in the office either wanted to be him or sleep with him. Which Sarah could have totally ignored if he hadn’t been the stranger she’d married in Vegas during a fake ceremony six months earlier.

He was supposed to be her one-night stand, a stand-in for a ceremony that wasn’t even legally binding. They were never even going to see each other again. Hell, she apparently hadn’t even known his real last name at the time. It was the only time she’d ever done something completely reckless and spontaneous.

It figured that one time would come back and bite her where it hurt.

I think I will be in the minority on this book when it comes to not loving it. It’s a good book, don’t get me wrong, but it was that for me – ok. One-Night Stand-In is part of the Imperfect Love Kindle World series and compared to the other books in this series, this one for me, just didn’t wow me like the others did.

I finished this book last night and the only thing I remember is the main plot – which is the blurb. LOL So, that tells you how much of a lasting effect the main characters had on me. Don’t get me wrong, the story line was cute. I enjoyed how they met and how they ended up running into each other again down the line. And the interactions between the two were at times funny, but overall, I just had a hard time seeing their connection beyond the physical part. And that’s why this novella was just ok for me.

As I said, I am in the minority on this book, but when it’s compared to the other stories that I have already read in this Kindle World, it does fall somewhat flat. It’s a story that I won’t remember in a week. I know based on Goodreads rating system that my rating should be a 2 – but I feel the book deserves a 3 because there are portions I enjoyed more than others.

Give it a try though. You may find that you like it.

THE RUN IN – KELLY ELLIOTT

Becoming the new Marketing Manager at Tate and Cane was a game changer. I was hell bent on proving I deserved this job, and that it wasn’t my cousin Sterling Quinn who had helped me score the new job title. Him being one of the CEO’s best friend—didn’t help the rumors.

Well screw that.

Ten years of sweat and hard work was the reason I was sitting in a large corner office with a killer Manhattan view. More focused than I’d ever been, it was time to take the bull by the horns.

And God help the person who stood in in my way.

********

Things I left behind in Seattle, Washington: A promising career at a top marking firm, the past I was desperate to escape, and obviously my sense of direction. It was because of all of those reasons I was standing in the middle of New York City lost and cursing at my phone.

If I didn’t get to Tate and Cane soon, I wouldn’t only be late, but also blow the chance to make the good impression on my new boss, Mason Quinn. And I needed that more than anything.

One wrong turn, an unfortunate collision, and an expensive suit drenched in my soy chia tea latte was not how I wanted to start my first day.

Then there was the other little problem I had. The drop dead gorgeous man whose suit I’d ruined was my new boss.

And boy did he look pissed.

TIED BY KIM KARR

I was rich, single, and connected, which meant a steady diet of beautiful women wherever I went.

I really did think I had the perfect life.

Until I went and married a supermodel I’d just met, and everything changed.

Of course there were choices. But the word annulment meant giving her up, and I never give up anything. Still, I was a bachelor at heart, and having a wife, well, I didn’t really know what to do with that.

After only forty-eight hours of marriage, I had already gone and screwed everything up.

Now I have thirty days to prove to my new wife that I’m husband material. There’s only one problem—I don’t even know what husband material means. However, I’m certain that won’t stop me from excelling at it.

My wife tells me it isn’t going to be easy. That I have numerous issues to overcome.

First, there’s my jealousy. It needs to be tamed. Did I flip over the fact that her latest picture was causing men around the world to do dirty things all over the covers she graced? Hell, yes. I couldn’t help myself though. When her photo went viral, my caveman instincts kicked in, and I demanded she quit her job and stay home—barefoot and pregnant in my kitchen. I can work on that, right?

Then there’s my mother. I need to convince her that my new wife is not the money hungry floozy she called her. Did my mother actually call her that? Yes. I can’t help it that my mother wants me to get rid of my new wife. The problem is what my mother wants, she always gets one way or another. Still, turning my mother’s opinion around can’t be that hard, can it?

There are many other issues, but according to my new wife, those are minor compared to the biggest one—she says I will never be able to accept being tied down.

Don’t worry—I got this one. I intend to prove to her in no uncertain terms that being tied up, down, or horizontal is just what this Upper East Sider needs.

Tied is another novella and great addition in the Imperfect Love Kindle World.

Tied focuses on two characters that are from Kim Karr’s other book, Toxic, but you don’t need to read that book in order to know anything. I really enjoyed getting the back story on James and Lindsay because we only know of them through James’s best, Phoebe, in Toxic.

Kim did a wonderful job with how these two not only play into her other books, but also with this Imperfect Love World. James and Lindsay are another couple that do Vegas and get married on a whim, with only knowing each other for maybe a day. And that’s just the beginning. Yes, I know it sounds impossible, but read the book and you will see how they get there. And how everything pans out. It is really quite the unconventional yet unique and sweet romance.

The story line is written out beautifully and everything seems to happen naturally. Their interactions are outrageous or baffling. They act like adults and handle themselves as appropriately as they can (cue James’ mother – if I had a woman like that in my life, let’s just say I’d need a room full of liquor to handle her so I didn’t kill her. LOL). Lindsay usually doesn’t care for men who tell her what to do, but James domineering presence tends to make her feel things she’s not used to feeling. It’s just a perfect mix for these two.

If you are looking for something quick, easy to read and yet still really hot and steamy, this is the book for you. You’ll finish it in less than a few hours, but you may need to cool yourself down somehow afterwards.

UNSUPERVISED by Cora Kenborn

Niall

A non-existent love life, unstable paycheck, and a six-year-old who’d rather hit boys than books sound more like a cry for help than a dating profile. On paper, it would seem like I need a life coach, but I’ve managed to get a decent grip on the single-dad thing. My love life, on the other hand, is an entirely different story. With my sexy Irish accent, I should have women of all ages losing their minds, but I seem to attract only a certain type—crazy.

The last thing I want is a new relationship, but I need a date for my company’s charity function. A chance meeting with a tall, leggy blonde who looks like she could use a night out is the perfect solution. Beautiful, sane, and she has a kid? We have a winner.

I didn’t count on Laken being unforgettable. Unlike all the other fake women I’ve met in this city, she’s real. And if there’s one thing I value more than anything, it’s honesty.

Laken

I didn’t bust my ass in college to be a nanny. Unfortunately, a 4.0 GPA and sucking up to the owner’s sister did nothing to secure a coveted Tate & Cane Enterprises internship. I’m not proud of being a nanny-for-hire to get my foot in the door, but my wealthy socialite employer has the ears of company executives. Swallowing my pride, I do what I need to—until an afternoon at the park changes everything.

I don’t mean to let him think Preston is my kid, but he just assumes. This isn’t me. I’m not a liar. Although his panty-melting accent does unspeakable things to me, I should set the record straight. There’s only one problem. Niall is a freelance photographer for Tate & Cane and invites me to a company event as his plus-one. He’s my “in.”

If I can hold on to this charade long enough, I can get the job and the man of my dreams. I’m winging this completely unsupervised. Game on.

TWISTED by Mandi Beck

Three friends walk into a bar . . . One walks out the fake girlfriend of a hot, bearded Scotsman.

Fannin McGuire is up for promotion at Tate and Cane Enterprises, but first she has to make it through her stepsister’s wedding. To Fannin’s ex. Yep. Her ex-fiancé is about to be her new brother-in-law. One big happy family. And lucky her, she also gets to work with him.

While Fannin is putting all of her energy into her career, her ex is putting all of his energy into making her life hell. Just when Fannin is sure she’ll be attending the wedding without a plus one, in walks Jasper James to save the day. He’s the bartender at the Iron Flask, the account she’s trying to land, and everything she didn’t know she needed or wanted. Before Fannin knows what’s happening, Jasper is playing knight in shining armor and she likes it. And him. A lot. With his smooth Scottish accent, ridiculously good looks, and that beard? She doesn’t stand a chance.

Jasper isn’t in the habit of rescuing anyone. But when Fannin is confronted by her ex about her lack of a date for his upcoming nuptials, Jasper can’t help but step in. Her wild hair, violet eyes, and killer legs have him doing a few things he normally wouldn’t. Never mind that he shouldn’t be getting involved with the woman in charge of making the bar a global success.

Their fake relationship becomes more real than either thought it would. Now they’re at the mercy of their feelings when truths are twisted, and the lies don’t taste as smooth as the whisky.

CHEEKY by Natasha Madison

Bradley Fitch has it all. A suave job, a gigantic trust fund, and an accent that makes panties drop faster than the speed of light. His new life in New York City is fast-paced and furious, but it’s nothing a little getaway can’t cure.

What says party and unwind like Las Vegas? Nothing. Plus, whatever happens there has to stay there.

When his best friend bails, he finds himself sitting on the plane next to his best friend’s sister.

She’s off-limits—proverbial caution tape wrapped around her body. Of course, she’s also totally ball busting gorgeous.

Lexi Quinn fell in love with Bradley at eight years old and then vowed to kill him at eight and a half. What was supposed to be a romantic week away is turning into a nightmare. Her ex is actually married, her luggage is lost, and her reservation is cancelled. And she’s sitting next to the man she swore to hate forever

One week. No strings attached. What is the worst that could happen?

It’s all fun and games till this British bad boy gives new meaning to BBC and becomes a little bit too cheeky.

This really was a cheeky read – pun intended. Cheeky is part of the Imperfect Love Kindle World that has partnered with Kendall Ryan and many fabulous authors including Natasha.

Cheeky was my second book by Natasha Madison and quite different from the one I read previously, but I still enjoyed this book a lot. I really liked the entire story line and the characters – Lexi and Blake paired very well together.

Lexi and Blake have known each other since they were kids. Lexi had her kid crush on Blake, but she never allowed herself to wallow in dreams of them ever being something more. Bradley knew Lexi was off limits so to ever assume anything more could come between them was just something he never allowed himself to think about. They are no older and settled in their lives and jobs. And when they agree to this one week of no strings attached fun – they both know nothing more will become of it. HA!!

First off, let me tell you that Natasha can write some sexy sex scenes. And foreplay – WOAH!! GEEZUS!! I love how she wrote Lexi – that girl owns her sexuality and has no qualms about it. She is confident in her body, herself and what she can do for a man. That alone is just sexy. And Blake has no problems with it either – I think that just stokes the fire in him even more. Lexi is definitely not what he expects and that just makes everything all the more enjoyable.

If you are looking for a steamy, sexy read with some built in humor and a little sweet romance, this book is for you. It’s an extremely quick read and has all the right components for a great, hot read. I highly recommend this read for anyone who loves romance!!

Forbidden Promises is the fourth book in The O’Malley’s series. While this book can technically be read as a stand-a-lone, there are a lot of continuing plot from the previous 3 books that continue into this one, it might be hard for some to connect all the dots and line the families together. I can’t say it takes away from this book’s sole plot, but it may slow down your reading overall trying to put things together.

This book is probably my least favorite so far in the series. I rated it at 4 because the book was intense and the overall drama and mystery continued on, but I felt there was more of a focus on the sexual relationship between Jude and Sloan that was necessary. Don’t get me wrong – I enjoy some great sex scenes, but I just felt that overpowered that plot of the book and this series.

Sloan is the mousy and obedient one of the O’Malley’s. She finally had enough of her family’s business that she left without anyone knowing where she was headed. She found herself living across the country and next door to Jude – a man who seems to want to be left alone.

Jude – I am not even sure where to start with him. He leaves me confused and with some contradictions. He doesn’t get himself involved with other people because his job forces him to leave immediately after everything is done – he doesn’t set roots anywhere. So when Sloan makes him take notice more than he ever has in anyone, that leaves him feeling out of sorts. With that being said – as rugged and dominating as he comes across, I had a hard time believing his actions were real. Near the end, they became more believable, but in the beginning it was difficult.

My only gripe was the relationship between Sloan and Jude – it just seemed too forced. I like that Katee did address the whole first relationship part and Sloan trying to decipher is it love or lust – that did help things. But again, it just didn’t seem believable the whole time.

I have to say that the redeeming parts of this book are the action and drama in this book. It’s what I have come to love and expect from this series. The O’Malley’s are involved in the Boston Mafia along with the Sheridan’s and their shared enemy – Dimitri. There’s a lot of suspense and action and I absolutely love it. And the overall plot just keeps getting better!!!

As you can tell, I didn’t really tell you much about this book itself or how things transpire. This is one of those books where you really can’t say one thing without giving the good stuff away. So it’s best just left unsaid and let the reader find out everything for themselves.

Overall, it’s a different take on how the other books played out, but it’s still good. I have my own issues with it which may not bother others. It’s a good read.

“I won’t hurt you, Sloan. I promise.”
There was no logical reason for her to trust him, but he’d been careful with her up to this point. Perhaps he’d be careful with her with what came next. She nodded mutely, watching as he rolled on a condom that he’d retrieved from his pocket. Her body hummed in anticipation and trepidation, but she didn’t let it show as he moved back to join her on the bed.
Jude palmed her between her legs, his big fingers exploring her. It didn’t seem possible that he could spark pleasure with a few specific touches, but it didn’t take much to have her relaxing, letting him once again take the lead. He kissed her neck. “Feels good, huh?”
“Well, I—oh.” Her eyes went wide when he pushed a second finger into her. It stretched her, the feeling not entirely pleasant at first, but he merely waited, pulsing the slightest bit, until pleasure took hold once more. She clutched his shoulders. “Kiss me again. Please.”
“You don’t have to ask twice.” He took her mouth like he owned it—like he owned every part of her. Jude slid between her legs, his body rubbing deliciously against hers. His hard length slid through her wetness, creating a friction that sparked a tide of desire deep inside her. Again? I couldn’t possibly…
He nipped her bottom lip and then soothed the slight ache with his tongue. “Ready?”
There was no mistaking his meaning. She nodded. Despite the earlier orgasm and how good it felt to have him moving against her, she was so incredibly empty. Instinct had her hooking a leg around his hips and arching up to meet him, needing more, so much more.
Jude reached between them, and then he was at her entrance. He kissed her, tongue twining with hers as he pushed into her, just a single inch. It was too much and not enough and she couldn’t help but thrash, pinned in place by his big body, overwhelmed by her helplessness and what he was doing to her. “Jude, I—”
“Shh. I’ve got you.” He rolled, taking her with him. One second she was on her back, finding it hard to breathe, and the next she was straddling him where he sat with his back against the headboard.
Sloan looked down, daunted by the sheer size of him. “I don’t know if this is going to work. You’re too big.”
He laughed, deep and full-throated, the sound rolling through her like the tide. “You can take every inch of me, sunshine. I promise you that.”

Praise for The O’Malleys Series

“It can be hard to make a ruthless assassin into a sympathetic character, but Robert handles the task with ease. She also deftly shows Sloan’s transformation from a pampered and protected naïf to a strong woman with a backbone of pure steel. A tension-filled plot full of deceit, betrayal, and sizzling love scenes will make it impossible for readers to set the book down.”—Publishers Weekly on FORBIDDEN PROMISES

“You will finish it in one sitting and die after you’re done because the next book isn’t out yet. This was one sexy ride!”—Reviewer Top Pick, Night Owl Reviews on FORBIDDEN PROMISES

About Katee Robert

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Katee Robert learned to tell her stories at her grandpa’s knee. Her 2015 title, The Marriage Contract, was a RITA finalist, and RT Book Reviews named it ‘a compulsively readable book with just the right amount of suspense and tension.” When not writing sexy contemporary and romantic suspense, she spends her time playing imaginary games with her children, driving her husband batty with what-if questions, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.
