Synopsis:

Get Wild in the Wildlands

From New York Times Bestsellers, Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright, the heat of the bayou is back with Rage/Killian in an all-new dual ‘tail’. Enter the Wildlands, where a new, volatile danger threatens the sizzling hot Pantera.

RAGE
Rage might be an aggressive Hunter by nature, but the gorgeous male has never had a problem charming the females. All except Lucie Gaudet. Of course, the lovely Geek is a born troublemaker, and it was no surprise to Rage when she was kicked out of the Wildlands.
But now the Pantera need a first-class hacker to stop the potential destruction of their people. And it’s up to Rage to convince Lucie to help. Can the two forget the past—and their sizzling attraction—to save the Pantera?

KILLIAN
Gorgeous, brutal, aggressive, and human, Killian O’Roarke wants only two things: to get rid of the Pantera DNA he’s been infected with, and get back to the field. But the decorated Army Ranger never bargained on meeting the woman—the female—of his dreams on his mission to the Wildlands.
Rosalie lost her mate to a human, and now the Hunter despises them all. In fact, she thinks they’re good for only one thing: barbeque. But this one she’s guarding is testing her beliefs. He is proud and kind, and also knows the pain of loss. But in a time of war between their species, isn’t any chance of love destined for destruction?

My Review:

Rage/Killian is the newest work from authors Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright. It is the 11th novella in the 2015 1,001 Dark Nights line-up as well as story number 17 and 18 in the authors’ Bayou Heat series. While I have read Ms. Ivy in the past, I have to admit this is the first I have read of both Ms. Wright and of the Bayou Heat series and I must say…I am completely hooked! The heat, action, and enthralling stores have me dying to know more and diving into the backlist titles!

Rage:

I loved this story. I always enjoy a good enemies to lovers story line and paired with the amazing writing of Alexandra Ivy, this was a total win for me!
Rage is sexy and a bit cocky. He is charged with finding the one person who had always seemed to be immune from his charm and the one person who had equally intrigued and irritated him…Lucie. She had gone from the Wildlands but had never really left his thoughts. Little did he know that the same held true for Lucie and his presence always in the back of her thoughts. Now they must work together to save the Pantera. Of course that proves to be easier said than done when there was never an easy friendship between them. But then again, sometimes that’s what makes the best and most heated physical relationships. This was no exception.

The heat and chemistry between them was fast and intense and oh so delicious! On top of that, I was so worried that Lucie and Rage would have tome and the resources to hack into the enemies system and foil the attempt to ruin the Pantera. High emotion and lots of action had my glued to each word of this story!

Killian:

Holy. Hotness. Batman. From the very beginning of this story I was completely hooked. There was so much intensity packed into this novella that I just couldn’t stop reading.

Human ex-soldier Killian O’Roarke is hell-bent on one thing: finding the animals whose DNA had been infected into him as some sort of military experiment and have it removed. He didn’t want any part of it left in his system and he wanted it done now. He never thought in a million years he would end up falling for one of the very same animals he didn’t want to be. He never thought that one woman would change everything about him. He never thought he may actually be ok with it, either.

Rosalie hated the human as much as he hated her. She hated all humans for that matter. Humans had caused her nothing but horrible heartbreak and pain and this one would be no exception. She never thought she could be proven wrong and she sure as hell never thought she would end up falling for this complex man. Talk about fate throwing both of them for a loop.

Again, another amazing enemies to lovers story that was jam-packed with so much intense emotion that it practically leapt off of the pages. It started out with a seething hatred between both human and animal but turned into a heated lust and attraction that had me devouring the words Ms. Wright had written. On top of all of that, my heart broke for the individual turmoil both Killian and Rosalie were going through. They both just want their old lives back, no matter how impossible that was. Their defenses are both high and the beauty that comes when they let them down and connect in a way only two damaged souls can was remarkable. I just could NOT get enough!
I suspect fans of the series will adore this installment and new readers will enjoy the peek into the Pantera world! Thank you, Ms. Ivy and Ms. Wright, for two amazing novellas and for giving me another series to look forward to reading!

ABOUT ALEXANDRA IVY:

Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

ABOUT LAURA WRIGHT:

Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

Make Me by Tessa Bailey….Blog Tour Stop with Excerpt and Review

MakeMe
About MAKE ME

In the final Broke and Beautiful novel from bestselling author Tessa Bailey, a blue collar construction worker and a quiet uptown girl are about to discover that the friendzone can sometimes be excellent foreplay.

Construction worker Russell Hart has been head-over-work boots for Abby Sullivan since the moment he laid eyes on her. But he knows a classy, uptown virgin like her could never be truly happy with a rough, blue-collar guy like him. If only she’d stop treating him like her personal hero—a role he craves more than oxygen—maybe he could accept it.

With the future of her family’s hedge fund on her shoulders, Abby barely has time to sleep, let alone find love. And her best friend Russell acting like a sexy, overprotective hulk any time their Super Group goes out in public definitely isn’t helping her single status. But after a near-tragedy lands Russell in her bed for the night, Abby’s suddenly fantasizing about what he looks like shirtless. Chest hair and tattoos—who knew?

As Russell struggles to keep Abby at a safe distance, she begins to see through his tough-talking exterior—and acknowledge her own feelings. Now she’s ready to turn the friend-zone into foreplay…and make him lose control.

My review:

Make Me is the third and final book in author Tessa Bailey’s Broke and Beautiful Series, a series I had completely fallen in love with since the very first page of the very first book. While I loved each book and I adore all of the characters, this book has landed as my hands-down favorite of the series.

It seems like the only thing Russell could concentrate on these days was the all-consuming attraction he felt for Abby. If he’s being honest, though, it’s been that way since the day he first laid eyes on her. She was beautiful, smart….and off-limits. To him, at least. No way would someone who came from the land of silver spoons and privilege ever want to be with a man like him. He knew he was a good, stand-up, loyal man, but he sure as hell hadn’t come from the same side of the tracks as she had and he wanted better for Abby that what he could offer her. It still didn’t stop him from wanting her like a starving man wants a steak. He had been successful at keeping her in the friend-zone and in the friend-zone she would stay…until one fateful day when a nap and too many shots of tequila changes everything…

Abby had loved Russell’s company and friendship since their little group had come together. She had relied on his sternness and surly behavior. It always made her feel better to see his scowl at her choice of non-sensible footwear, or when he insisted she text him after getting home from a late night. He had come to mean so much to her and in her world, a world that hadn’t included real friends until now, it meant more than she could ever say. But just when she thinks she has her adorably gruff construction worker friend out, things change. All of a sudden she notices him in an entirely different light and it awakens things inside her. Desires and emotions she had never had the chance to explore. Would she be able to convince him to explore those new feelings with her? She knew with a deep certainly that she didn’t want it to be anyone else….

Two very different people form two very different backgrounds have one very singular desires…but will they both be able to push away all the hidden insecurities and give in to what the both want so desperately?

First off, I will NOT cry while typing this review (I hope…). Secondly, I will try not to ramble. Ok, here goes…I loved this book. I. Loved. This. Book. I know I’ve said that a million times before, and I totally mean it, but this book was just everything.

Russell and Abby made my heart happy, then ripped it out, stomped on it, crushed it to a million pieces, fixed it all back up, and made it whole again and filled with so much love for these two that I could just burst. The gradual build of chemistry between Russell and Abby through this series was amazing and all leads up to this story. A story filled with so much tension and emotion that I couldn’t stop reading it until I knew everything would be ok. And what a journey to “ok” it was. Even when Russell and Abby finally admit their feelings, it still wasn’t ok. And I totally got it. I wasn’t mad at Russell for feeling he wasn’t enough for Abby but still needing to be by her side and protect her. And after learning about his past, I understood why he felt that way. It broke my heart, but I understood it. Abby is an amazing gal with so much on her plate. But she’s also got a whole determined streak in her that she brings out with Russell and I loved her for it. I wanted to high five my e-reader when she really backed him into a corner and pushed him until he had to relent.

Adding to the mess is Abby’s family and their livelihood is in a bit of trouble and because she was used to being friend-less her entire life, she was handling it all on her own, behind the scenes. That, of course, only brings out more of the alpha protector in Russell and God if that didn’t make me love him more. They were both a jumble of feelings and emotion and lust and it hit a fevered pitch more than a couple of times and, damn, it was magic.

Of course, all of the ups and downs lead up to a whole lot of “one step forward, two-steps back” for them but it was the journey they needed to take. There are so many stumbles along the way and my heart hurt for these two but that’s what I count on from Tessa. That level of attachment to characters and that level of emotional connection.

What I also loved so much about this book was that it brought me back to those first Line Of Duty books by Tessa, with those swoon worthy alpha male protectors. This series was definitely a departure with a lot more fun and sass, and as much as I love all of that, this was the ending that brought me back to the beginning, in a way. This series was a perfect balance with each character bringing something different to the collection. (ok, I may be crying a bit…)

Thank you, Tessa, for giving this series an ending that only you can give! And thank you for giving all of us the Broke and Beautiful series! (Now I’m going ahead and having a good cry…)5 star rainbow unicorn

Excerpt:

Chapter One

Day one hundred and forty-two of being friend-zoned. Send rations.
Russell Hart stifled a groan when Abby twisted on his lap to call out a drink order to the passing waiter, adding a smile that would no doubt earn her a martini on the house. Every time their six person “super group” hung out, which was starting to become a nightly affair, Russell advanced into a newer, more vicious circle of hell. Tonight, however, he was pretty sure he’d meet the devil himself.
They were at the Longshoreman, celebrating the Fourth of July, which presented more than one precious little clusterfuck. One, the holiday meant the bar was packed full of tipsy Manhattanites, creating a shortage of chairs, hence Abby parking herself right on top of his dick. Two, it put the usually conservative Abby in ass-hugging shorts and one of those tops that tied at the back of her neck. Six months ago, he would have called it a shirt, but his two best friends had fallen down the relationship rabbit hole, putting him in the vicinity of excessive chick talk. So, now it was a halter-top. What he wouldn’t give to erase that knowledge.
During their first round of drinks, he’d become a believer in breathing exercises. Until he’d noticed these tiny, blond curls at Abby’s nape, curls he’d never seen before. And some-fucking-how, those sun-kissed curls were what had nudged him from semi-erect to full-scale Washington monument status. The hair on the rest of her head was like a…a warm milk chocolate color, so where did those little curls come from? Those detrimental musings had lead to Russell questioning what else he didn’t know about Abby. What color was everything else? Did she have freckles? Where?
Russell would not be finding out – ever – and not just because he was sitting in the friend zone with his dick wedged against his stomach – not an easy maneuver – so she wouldn’t feel it. No, there was more to it. His friends, Ben and Louis, were well aware of those reasons, which accounted for the half-sympathetic, half-needling looks they were sending him from across the table, respective girlfriends perched on their laps. The jerks.
Abby was off-limits. Not because she was taken – thank Christ – or because someone had verbally forbidden him from pursuing her. That wasn’t it. Russell had taken a long time trying to find a suitable explanation for why he didn’t just get the girl alone one night and make his move. Explain to her that men like him weren’t suitable friends for wide-eyes debutantes and give her a demonstration of the alternative.
It went like this. Abby was like an expensive package that had been delivered to him by mistake. Someone at the post office had screwed the pooch and dropped off the shiniest, most beautiful creation on his Queens doorstep and driven away, laughing manically. Russell wasn’t falling for the trick, though. Someone would claim the package, eventually. They would chuckle over the obvious mistake and take Abby away from him, because really, he had no business being the one who’s lap she chose to sit on. No business, whatsoever.
But while he was in possession of the package – as much as he’d allow himself to be in possession, anyway – he would guard her with his life. He would make sure that when someone realized the cosmic error that had occurred – the one that had made him Abby’s friend and confidant – she would be sweet and undamaged, just as she’d been on arrival.

Unfortunately, the package didn’t seem content to let him stand guard from a distance. She innocently beckoned him back every time he managed to put an inch of space between them. Russell had lost count of the times Abby had fallen asleep on him while the super group watched a movie, drank margaritas on the girls’ building rooftop, driven home in cabs. She was entirely too comfortable around him, considering he saluted against his fly every time they were in the same room.
“Why so quiet, Russell?” Louis asked, his grin turning to a wince as his actress girlfriend, Roxy, elbowed him in the ribs. Yeah. Everyone at the damn table knew he had a major thing for the beautiful, unassuming number whiz on his lap. Everyone but Abby. And that’s how he planned to keep it.
“I know why,” Ben said, causing Russell’s stomach to catapult itself across the bar. Before he could change the subject, Ben pulled his student-turned-main squeeze closer and continued. “He doesn’t need to give us advice on girls anymore. His powers have been diminished.”
“We’ve slain the beast.”
Ben and Louis toasted their plastic beer cups without a single glance at one other. Why was he friends with these two again? Oh right. The power of beer had brought them together. Praise be to Heineken. Smug as they were, though, Russell knew humor was their way of showing support. If it wasn’t humor, it would be sympathy, aka dude kryptonite.
“What kind of advice did he give you about us?” Roxy wanted to know, shooting Louis and Ben stern glances.
“Uh-uh.” Russell shook his head. “I’m calling bro confidentiality on you both. That includes pillow talk and supersedes any and all forms of sexual coercion.”
Ben adjusted his glasses. “That reasoning, however, should lend some insight into what you ladies missed.”
Honey leaned across the table and patted Russell’s arm. “It all worked out in the end, big guy. Who knows? You might have had something to do with it after all.”
Russell opened his mouth to respond, but whatever he planned to say withered in its inception because Abby spun in his lap again, sending the world around him into slow motion. A left jab of her scent – which after careful consideration he’d termed white grape sunlight – caught him in the chin and he barely restrained the urge to shout oh, come on, at the top of his lungs. Her big hazel eyes were indignant on his behalf, mouth pursed in a way that shouldn’t have been sexy, but damn-well was. She’d snapped her spine straight, hip bumping his erection in the process.
Please, almighty God, just kill me now.
“Russell gives great advice,” Abby protested and Russell would have smiled if he wasn’t busy earning his master’s degree in boner-soothing meditation. She really had no idea her outrage only made her sweeter because it looked so unnatural on her. “Remember the man on the first floor of our building? The one who used to clear his throat loudly every time we walked by?” She waited for Honey and Roxy to nod. “Russell told me the next time it happened, I should just shout TROUBLE at his door. I did. And it hasn’t happened since.”
When Louis and Ben started laughing into their beers, Russell flipped them off behind Abby’s back. What his friends knew that Abby didn’t? As soon as she’d told him the problem, he’d paid a visit to their downstairs neighbor and explained that trouble would find him if he so much as breathed in Abby – or any of her roommates’ – direction again. Hence, the single word being so effective. Russell was trouble.
But as Abby turned a bright, encouraging smile on him, swelling his heart like an inflating balloon, he recognized that his brand of trouble had nothing on Abby’s. She didn’t even know how dangerous she was to his health. Because while Abby was the package that had been delivered by mistake, he’d gone and fallen for her, despite his attempts to simply be her friend.
And maybe it was his imagination, but the loss of her seemed to loom a little closer each day. Like any minute now, she would peer a little closer and realize he was in imposter. Loss was something with which Russell was familiar. Loss had cut him off at the knees at a young age, made him hyper aware of how fast it could happen. Whoosh. Chopped off at the knees. So he was already in damage control mode, hoping to limit the fallout when she inevitably headed for a younger version of Gordon Gekko. For now, it was all about keeping a comfortable gap between him and Abby.
She scooted back on his lap to make room for the waitress who had returned with a round of drinks, and Russell gritted his teeth.
Okay. Comfortable definitely wasn’t the right word.

***
I have friends. I have friends now and it’s glorious.
Six months ago, when Abby Sullivan had placed the ad on Craigslist, seeking two roommates to share her Chelsea apartment, her highest hope had been for noise. Maybe it sounded silly, but apart from the Ninth Avenue traffic trundling past and the occasional shouting match on the street, her life had been so quiet before Honey and Roxy showed up. She’d been hoping for hair dryers in the morning, dishes being tossed in the sink, singing in the shower. Anything but the void of sound she’d been living with, alone in the massive space.
Then, oh then, she’d gone and done something even more impulsive than placing an advertisement for massively discounted rent in cyberspace. She’d blurted upon meeting them for the first time that she didn’t need help paying the rent; she merely wanted friends. Unbelievably, it hadn’t felt like a mistake to reveal such a pitiful secret to a couple of strangers. There had been a feeling when all three of them first stood in the same room that it would work out, like a complicated math equation that would prove itself worth the work.
Now? She couldn’t imagine a day passing without them. The guys had been an unexpected bonus she hadn’t counted on. Especially Russell.
As they walked crosstown toward the Hudson River where they planned to watch the Fourth of July fireworks, Abby smiled up at Russell where he towered over her. She received a suspicious look in response. Suspicious! Ha! It made her want to laugh like a lunatic. All the way back to her furthest memory, she’d been reliable, gullible, sugar-filled Abby to everyone and their mother. Even Honey and Roxy, to a degree, handled her carefully around subjects that might offend her or hurt her feelings. She was too grateful for their presence to call them on it, though. Sometimes she opened her mouth, the words I’m not made of spun glass hovering right on the tip of her tongue, but she always swallowed them. They meant well. She knew that with her whole heart. Maybe someday, when she was positive they wouldn’t vanish at a rare show of temper—the way people always did when she bared a flaw—she’d tell them. Until she worked up the courage however, she would stay quiet, and appreciate her new best friends for the colorful positivity they’d brought into her life.
But Russell? She appreciated him even more for getting mad at her.
Such occurrences were her favorite part of the week. Russell stomping into the apartment, grumbling about her not checking the peep hole. Refusing to go out on a Saturday night until she changed into more comfortable shoes. Giving her that daunting frown when she revealed they’d had a leak in the bathroom for three weeks and hadn’t yet called the super to repair it. He’d had it fixed within the hour, but he hadn’t spoken to her the entire time.
It was awesome.
Because he kept coming back. Every time. No matter what—no matter what she said or did—he never washed his hands of her. Never got so fed up with her admittedly flighty behavior that he skipped a hang out. Or didn’t respond to a text. He was the steadfast presence in her life she’d never had.
No one spoke to Abby at her job. She’d been hired after graduating at the top of her Yale class and placed in a silent power position at a hedge fund. Her father’s hedge fund. So she could understand her co-workers’ reticence to invite her for happy hour. Or even give her a polite nod in the hallway. At first, she’d been prepared to try anyway. Force them to acknowledge her in some small way, even if it was just passing the stapler in the conference room. Then she remembered. When she forced her opinion on people, or had an outburst, they went away, and didn’t come back for a long time.
Her coworkers assumed she sat in her air-conditioned office all day playing Minecraft or buying dresses online. And why wouldn’t they? She’d done nothing to sway that notion. In reality, however, she worked hard. Showed up before the lights came on and stayed later than everyone else. Brought work home with her and often, didn’t get to sleep. She had no choice.
Stress tightened like a shoelace around Abby’s stomach, but she breathed through it. Tonight was for fun with her friends. Tomorrow morning would be soon enough to face her responsibilities.
“It’s the shoes, isn’t it?” Russell demanded, encompassing Abby, Roxy and Honey with a dark look. “This always happens in the eleventh hour. You girls started limping around and we just have to watch it.”
Ben sighed. “Here we go again.”
“No, really. I think I’ve finally figured it out.” Russell swiped impatient fingers over his shaved head. “You ever heard of sympathy pains? When my sister-in-law gave birth, my brother swore someone was firing a nail gun into his stomach. To this day, the guy has never been the same.” He pointed at Abby’s electric blue pumps. “Women wear these evil creations around to confuse us. Sure, they make a girl’s legs look good, but that’s the black magic, my friends. They want us to feel their pain and not understand why.”
Louis turned, walking backwards on the sidewalk so he could face them. “I have to admit, I’m with Russell on this one.” He smiled at Roxy’s outrage. “You could go barefoot and it wouldn’t make a difference to me.”
“I’ll round it out with a third agreement,” Ben chimed in. “I like Honey in her Chucks.”
That statement earned Ben a kiss from Honey and a groan from Russell. “I’m thrilled you assholes have found a way to use my amazing logic to earn points.”
Abby loved the familiar argument simply because it was familiar—a routine she had in common with others—but she had to admit her feet were throbbing. After a night of dancing, the crosstown walk was giving her blisters. She wore heels all day at the office, but they were sensible and low-heeled. Nothing like the stilettos she’d borrowed from Roxy. In fact, now that she’d acknowledged her tired feet, every part of her seemed to sag with exhaustion, as if she’d finally given her bones permission. “I can end this argument right here,” Abby interrupted with a weary, but determined smile. The group stopped to watch as she slipped off her shoes and placed her bare feet back onto the cool sidewalk with a hearty sigh. For some reason, everyone’s gazes swung to Russell who – God love him – was frowning at her like she’d just crashed his beloved truck.
“A new tactic, gentlemen. Take note.” Their four friends laughed at Russell’s ominous tone, but Abby stayed pinned under his scowl. Although now, his scowl had a hint of uncertainty behind it. “Put them back on, Abby. You’re going to step on something. Broken glass, or—”
Abby breezed past Russell. Honestly, he worried constantly for no reason. They were only a few blocks away from the river and the streets were well lit. What was the worst that could—
Her feet left the ground, her gasp cutting off as she was cradled against Russell’s big chest. His expression was hidden, thanks to the streetlights shining blindingly above his head, but Abby knew from experience, he would be annoyed. She couldn’t prevent the smile from spreading like wildfire across her face, feeling as if it reached as far as her chest. It seemed impossible, but somehow she’d earned a place among these people who cared about her. Friends. Good friends. The kind you can’t live without.
Especially Russell. Her favorite.
“You were put on this earth to make me crazy, Abby. You know that?”
“I’m not sorry about it,” she whispered. “Does that make me a bad person?”
“No. It makes you a woman.”
She muffled her laugh with the use of Russell’s shoulder. “Men make women crazy, too. It’s not a one-sided affair.”
He frowned down at her. “What would you know about it?”
That question coming from anyone else might have embarrassed Abby, but for all Russell’s bluster, he never judged her. Not for her lack of a love life, anyway. Shoes were another matter altogether. “I know things.”
“Things, huh? Maybe Louis and Ben should spend more time at their own apartments.” His arms flexed as he hefted her higher, with minimal effort. “Do you actually like watching the fireworks or is this just a patriotic custom we’re upholding?”
“No, I love fireworks.” She tilted her head back and looked at the sky. “Everyone forgets over the course of the year how incredible fireworks are. You know? They forget until they’re standing beneath them again. You don’t like them?”
He stared ahead as he answered. “I like that you like them.”
Abby smiled, knowing Russell would have to be extra gruff for the remainder of the night to make up for that slip. And needing to torture him a little over it. “That’s how I feel when you make me watch the Yankees.” She laid a hand against his cheek. “It’s worth it just to see your adorable man eyes light up.”
His sigh was sharp, but she caught the corner of his mouth kicking up. “All this time, I thought you were enjoying it.”
“The blooper reel is my favorite.” Drowsiness settled more firmly over her and she stifled a yawn against his shoulder. “Also, I love when kids in the audience catch foul balls.”
“Crowd. It’s called a crowd.”
She hummed in her throat, eyelids beginning to weigh down. “I knew that. Just seeing if you were paying attention,” she murmured.
Russell chewed his bottom lip a moment, worry marring his features. “You’re so tired lately, Abby. Everything okay?”
“Totally fine,” she lied. “Just going to rest my eyes a minute.”
Positive he would wake her up when they reached the Hudson, she wound her arms around his neck and dozed off. It was the first time she’d slept in three days.

Just One Lie releases today

Synopsis:

The long-awaited follow-up novel to the runaway New York Times bestseller Just One Night—which Publishers Weekly gave a starred review and proclaimed, “Davis skillfully creates an uplifting story in which sex is presented both as freedom and as a metaphor for power, and where raw chemistry is the clear winner over bland complacency.”

In the instant international sensation Just One Night, sensible Kasie Fitzgerald unleashed her passions—and found herself—through an explosive affair. In Just One Lie, we meet Kasie’s wild and tortured sister, whose impulsivity and lack of self-control has set off a chain of events that changes her family forever.

Melody Fitzgerald is the opposite of the “perfect” daughter. The lead singer of an indie rock band, she is impulsive and creative, with a rebellious streak that both defines her and becomes her greatest enemy. Her lover, the enticing and unpredictable Ash, shares her free spirit and penchant for trouble. On the face of it, he seems to be her perfect match.

So why is she so drawn to her soft spoken, reliable drummer, Brad Witmer? How can a man who wears polo shirts and reads the financial section of the paper be of any interest to her at all? And why on earth does someone like that appear to be so captivated by her?

Before she knows it, Melody finds herself on a path of self-discovery, passion, and affairs of the heart. But will a dark secret from her past derail it all? Or will its exposure be the very thing that unburdens her heart and allows her to seek a future with the one man who loves her completely?

My review:

Just One Lie is the second book in author Kyra Davis’ Just One Night Series and even though I own the first in the series, Just One Night, this is the first of Kyra’s work that I’ve read. Which looking at it now is absolutely NUTS because I loved this book. Beyond loved.

First I want to mention that this can be read as a standalone, as I can attest to, and you won’t be lost or miss out on anything. Ok…now onto a hopefully not rambling review as you may know I tend to do when I love a book this much…

Melody Fitzgerald could be called a wild child. She could be called a free spirit with a devil-may-care attitude. She could also be called talented with a gift for creating edgy and beautiful music and giving performances that took an audience’s breath away. But that was the thing with Melody…she was multifaceted and holds many different sides to her personality. That’s what drew people to her and what had the either holding her close or pushing her away. It’s what attracted the brooding and mysterious Ash as well as the very opposite preppy and stable Brad. Two very different men attracted to a woman who was like a freshly blown soap bubble….beautiful and mesmerizing but fragile and ready to pop at any moment. There’s lots of emotion swirling under the surface like the iridescent colors on the clear bubble and it’s those emotions and Melody’s past that threaten to make her pop. Will either Ash or Brent be able to help her stay afloat?

It was a hard choice for me when I first started reading, to be honest, on who I would choose for her to end up with. I loved the way the story opened up with Ash and I loved their hot and heavy relationship but I wasn’t sold on him. Enter Brad. The sexy drummer who looked anything but. He was preppy and solid with a maturity about him that didn’t fit the typical drummer persona. I loved him almost immediately and loved that there was also a mystery about him. Of course, when we get beyond the surface with Brad I loved him even more. I don’t want to give anything away but I will say he is 100% swoon worthy.

Of course nothing was easy when it came to Melody. She has too many demons in her past and they are always threatening to break free at the most inopportune times. It broke my heart to see her struggling. Normally, I prefer a damaged hero being rescued by a good and whole heroine. This was the complete opposite and I loved it more than I thought. Never once did I find Melody weak or annoying. Her struggle was touching and gut wrenching. Her journey is indeed a rough one but also one that I loved from start to finish. I laughed and cried and, as I said earlier, devoured in one sitting. It was dark and beautiful and ended on such a perfect note that I wore a silly grin on my face for the rest of the day. So, so, so good!

Ok….hopefully I didn’t put you to sleep with this long review and hopefully you got the hint that I adored this story and highly recommend! Thank you, Ms. Davis, for an amazing read!

Servicing The Target by Cherise Sinclair….ARC Review

Servicing The Target releases 7/28

25327554

Synopsis:

A discharged Army Ranger, Ben considers his job as a BDSM club security guard to be an excellent hobby. He’s never been tempted to join in. But everything changes when the notorious Mistress Anne inadvertently reveals the caring heart concealed beneath her Domme armor.

Now, he’s set his sights on the beautiful Shadowlands Mistress. Maybe he’d considered himself vanilla, but she can put her stiletto on his chest any day, any time. He’ll trust her delicate hands to hold his heart. And if she wants to whip his ass on the way to an outstanding climax, he’s just fine with that too.

Sure, he knows she likes “pretty boy” slaves. And he’s older. Craggy and rough. And six-five. Minor hindrances. The mission is a go.

My Review:

Servicing The Target is book number ten in author Cherise Sinclair’s Masters Of The Shadowlands Series, as well as a Blue Box Special from 1,001 Dark Nights, and from the very beginning, I was fascinated and pulled in by Mistress Anne and Ben. Their relationship is unconventional and truly unique. I loved every minute.

Shadowlands Mistress Anne and club security guard Ben are opposites in a very crucial way….what they prefer in their sex lives. Ben is vanilla as far as what he’s experienced in the past and Anne is, well, let’s say she’s rocky road with colored sprinkles and chocolate sauce. So very opposite from one another. But Ben is willing to bend. He’s willing to give things a try…for Anne. Anne really doesn’t want to admit it, but she wants different things lately…and it’s shaking her to her core. Could it be possible that they really could have some sort of a relationship? Of course, in Anne’s mind that means strictly physical. She didn’t do love. Ben, however, has other plans and, as a former Army Ranger Sniper, he knows once he has his sights set on a target he won’t miss.

Oh, how I loved this book. I loved so many things about it. On top of Ms. Sinclair’s signature scorching heat we are once again treated to the multiple layers of the characters and, in this particular story, the growth and changes within both Ben and Anne. I love that Anne, for being as tough as she is, starts to soften toward Ben and, even though there are more than a few stumbles along the way, is open to giving love a chance. Ben just killed me. I loved his ingrained respect for Anne, always saying “ma’am” even before they became physical and the “ma’am” became a requirement. I loved that Ms. Sinclair gave him a personality that had more than a few dichotomic traits. To me, there’s nothing better than a strong exterior with soft and emotion rich elements underneath the surface….and Ben has that in spades. I also loved his persistence when it came to Anne. It wasn’t over the top but it was just enough to keep her aware that he was there…waiting for her to give in. Together these two are smoking hot, of course, but also such a wonderful fit.

I once again have to mention how much I enjoy the emotion and reality Ms. Sinclair paints her characters and stories with. Truly, it’s an art and she always makes her books not just about the acts that are involved in the BDSM lifestyle, but the people who live it. I admire her ability to continuously shine a positive and beautiful light onto this exceedingly popular genre and allow readers a glimpse into the trust and love that goes into a true D/s relationship.

Thank you, Ms. Sinclair, for once again writing a story that kept me riveted!

Book Blurb:

Oakley Easton wants two things: to be a good mom to her daughter and to ditch her less than ideal night job. Hooking up with bad boy drummer Pike Ryland? Not on the agenda. She needs a promotion. Not sex, tattoos and rock ’n’ roll.

Pike isn’t about to let Ms. Prim and Proper shut him down so easily, especially when he stumbles upon Oakley’s sexy night job. She’s only playing a role on those late night calls with strangers, but when he gets her on the line, all bets are off. He won’t stop until that sultry voice is calling his name for real.

But as they move from anonymous fantasies in the dark to the flesh-on-hot-flesh reality of the bedroom, the risk of falling in love becomes all too high. And the safe, quiet world that Oakley’s worked so hard to create is about to be exposed to the one person who could ruin it all.

My Review:

Call On Me is the eighth book in author Roni Loren’s Loving On The Edge series and the first in the series I have read. Well, after reading this book I have gone back and bought the entire backlist because this book was phenomenal and Ms. Loren is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

This is an imaginative and original tale of sexy rocker meets reserved single mom with a few twists that made me fall in love with these two characters and kept me glued to every page…which seems like a rarity for me these days.

Oakley is a strong gal with a somewhat hidden talent and a story behind her reluctance to embrace it. I love the many layers to her personality. Her daughter is her life now and she does whatever is needed to make ends meet and give her a happy life. I admired that so much. I also loved how she didn’t give in right away to Pike’s charms….and there were charms aplenty! I think she gave him the right amount of “run for his money” and gives in at just the right time, in my opinion. Which, again, I think is rare in a character these days. She’s a gal I would love to be friends with if she jumped off the pages.

Pike is equally amazing. He gives Oakley the space she needs and time to warm up but his persistence is so heartwarming and sexy as hell. He truly ended up being a knight in tattooed armor and has such a delicious soft side opposite his rocker facade. He was so good with both Oakley and her daughter and I loved the sexy ways he employed to get Oakley to open up to him and try new things.

Together these two are smoking hot and deliver a delectable pairing of smoking hot heat and tender emotion. Now, I will say their journey has a few bumps along the way and the last bit of the book had me crying and my heart breaking but not to worry….Ms. Loren delivered an ending that was totally movie worthy and had me swooning and sighing happy contended sighs. I just loved it!

If you’re looking for a fresh take on the sexy hot rocker meets good girl story with well-developed characters, this is a book for you! As I said earlier, Ms. Loren is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and I cannot wait to read more from her in the future!

Excerpt:

“So,” Devon said, obviously searching for a change in topic, “you know a guy in the next band?”

“The drummer. He’s the one helping out with that music project at Bluebonnet. He gave us tickets, thought Reagan might have fun.”

Dev’s eyebrow arched. “Right. Because he thought your kid might have fun.”

“It’s not like that.”

“Uh-huh.”

Guitar chords blasted through the speaker for a moment as the crew on stage did the sound check. Oakley turned her head as the big screens on the side of the stage lit up with a publicity photo for Darkfall—the wind making the screens ripple and the bodies in the picture come to life. The crowd cheered.

“Look, mom!” Reagan shouted back at her. “It’s Mr. Pike!”

“I see, baby.” Boy, did she. The larger than life image had Pike staring down the camera with his bandmates. Badass. Tough. Beautiful.

“Which one is he?” Devon asked, following her gaze.

“The blond.”

“Whoa,” he said low enough for the kids not to hear. “You had that guy over for pizza and managed keep your clothes on? You have more restraint than I do.”

He had no idea. “I have no interest in being a groupie.”

“Can I be one?”

She shoved his shoulder. “You’re such a tramp. I’m so telling Hunter when he gets back in town.”

“Tell him. He’d agree. But seriously, is the guy a jerk? He looks like he has high potential to be an egomaniac. I don’t want that kind of guy around my baby sister and niece.”

She frowned and dragged her eyes away from the picture. “Oh, he’s got an ego, all right. He’s entirely inappropriate most of the time and a shameless flirt. But I wouldn’t say he’s a jerk. He’s kind of, I don’t know, weird and manic and…funny.”

Devon tipped up the bill of his hat, eyeing her with a sly smile. “Oh, so we have a mad crush then?”

“What? No.”

“Oak, you’re here in the Texas heat at a hard rock festival. You don’t even know these bands. And a few weeks ago, when I asked if you wanted to take Reagan to see that 80s cover band, you told me she was too young for concerts.”

Oakley crossed her arms. “Rae has since proven her maturity.”

He smirked. “Bull. Shit. You’ve got the hots for this guy.”

“He’s not my type.”

Dev shook his head and draped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close so the kids couldn’t hear. “Come on, don’t freak out about it. You work too hard and spend too much time alone. This could be good for you.”

“An ill-advised hookup with a drummer who will drop me as soon as he gets bored could be good for me?”

“Exactly. Look, I know I’m your brother and shouldn’t be saying this, but there’s nothing wrong with a finding yourself a hot, temporary fuck buddy.”

“Dev!”

He laughed. “Oh, don’t be such a prude. I mean, yes, you’re right. The guy’s probably not boyfriend material. But you’re a grown woman and deserve some fun. You know we’re always happy to have Rae over if you need a date night.”

“I think you just flunked big brother school.”

He gave her shoulder a pat. “Okay, fine, want responsible brotherly advice? Use a condom. And don’t let him take video.”

She poked him in the ribs. But before she could respond to his comment, the lights on stage began to flash and the crowd surged forward, excitement like a contagion moving through them.

“Come on, mom! Let’s get closer.” Reagan grabbed her hand and dragged her with the flow of the crowd.

They’d already been pretty close to the stage, thanks to the special passes Pike had sent, but now they were only a ten or twelve rows of people back on the far left side of the stage. Bodies pressed close to them and she couldn’t help but get caught up in the fervor of the crowd.

She pushed onto her toes, knowing the drummer was almost always the first one to come out.

“Is that him?” Dev asked.

“Where?”

Devon pointed to the other end of the stage, and Oakley froze up the moment her eyes landed on Pike. Tight gray jeans, combat boots, and a black sleeveless T-shirt that showed off his ink. All swagger and sex and guyliner. Pike waltzed onto the stage like it’d been built just for him. He lifted his hand in greeting, earning screams from the audience, then hopped behind his drum kit. He put in his earpiece, raised his drumstick, and leaned over to his mic with a cocky smile. “Y’all ready for us, Dallas?”

The crowd erupted. Sound exploded from his drums.

And Oakley forgot to breathe.

Good. God.

The rest of the band ran onto the stage, adding guitars and vocals to Pike’s heavy rhythm, but Oakley barely heard the words.

All she could do was stare. Pike took command of the drums like he had a personal vendetta against them, banging hard and violent but with a sharp-edged grace that made it look like moving art. Every part of his body worked in perfect rhythm—muscles flexing, tattoos dancing, sweat flying—and the expression on his face wasn’t far from what she’d imagined he looked like in the throes of sex. He was taking the songs in his fists and making them his with every swing of his drumsticks.

Oakley swayed on her feet, the pounding beat taking on an erotic edge, vibrating though her and invading her like a drug.

He looked possessed.

He sounded amazing.

And she was toast.

She felt the urge ride up her throat and she couldn’t stop it. Her hands went up with the rest of the crowd and she screamed Pike’s name like a goddamned groupie.

Fucking. Toast.

She’s an expert in helping others de-stress, but Arilyn Meadows is running on fumes. No time to find Mr. Right—but after discovering her yogi boyfriend in a compromising asana, Arilyn would rather dog-sit for her honeymooning friend Kate than risk her heart on another downward dog. And when police officer Stone Petty—radiating masculinity and bad-boy attitude—is sent to her for mandatory lessons in cooling off when the job gets too hot, Arilyn vows to ignore his seductive glances and sexy grin. But there’s no halting their sizzling flirtation—a red-hot, high-speed chase that’s breaking all the limits

My Review:

Searching For Always is the fourth book in author Jennifer Probst’s Searching For series, a series I love more with each release. I think I probably said with the previous book that it was my favorite of the series and I have to change my vote…..this book, by far, is my favorite!

If ever there was a enemies to lovers/opposites attract story to fall in love with, this is it. Officer Stone Petty and yogi Arilyn Meadows have been at odds since the first met…and it gets more and more heated with each exchange they have.

He’s a meat-eating, tough ass, rough and tumble burly cop. She’s a vegetarian, animal loving, loving yoga instructor. He loves the chaos of a good police chase; she loves her meditation and calm surroundings. She fosters dogs of all kinds; he can’t stand them. Truly, opposite in every way.

Of course that only means the push and pull between the is off the freaking charts smoking hot and when the heat finally combusts into a flame, it is white-hot! The range of emotions I felt while reading this book was all over the place. Both Arilyn and Stone have heartbreaking pasts that helped shape who they are today and, ironically, it’s the pasts they tried to keep hidden that brings them together when it surfaces. I loved these two together and I loved reading their journey. I laughed and cried and gritted my teeth in frustration and in the end it all added up to one of the most amazing stories Ms. Probst has written.

I also have to say again that Ms. Probst writes some of the best, swoon producing, movie worthy endings I have ever read…..this book was no exception! All I have to say is: big, bad, uniformed police man holding cute little doggie in a pink studded collar. (you guys MUST read this book!)

Thank you, Ms. Probst, for once again giving us an incredible romance with brilliant characters and tons of heat and emotion!

Book Blurb:

The new Loving on the Edge romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Nothing Between Us turns on the heat between two men who wonder how much they’re willing to risk in the name of love.

Four years after an accident tore their friendship apart, Hunter and Devon are living separate lives. Hunter is now the all-America hero—a congressman’s son and a pro pitcher in Houston preparing to marry his beauty-queen girlfriend. Devon is in Dallas running a new restaurant.

But when Hunter unexpectedly shows up in Devon’s bar, Devon can’t turn him away. Damn it if the man isn’t still gorgeous. But engaged? Hell no. All he’s doing for Devon is bringing back memories of their college-roommate days, and the night their relationship went too far. Turns out Hunter has never forgotten it either.

Now Devon can’t help but be drawn in all over again by the only guy who’s ever gotten close enough to break his heart. Maybe one more night together would be enough for both of them to finally move on. Or maybe one night will change everything…

My Review:

Yours All Along is story number 7.5 in author Roni Loren’s Living On The Edges series and is admittedly the first in the series I’ve read. Well, consider me hooked! This novella was amazing. It was emotional and sexy as hell and I loved every second.

I love a good friends to lovers story and I love a good reunited lovers story….so you can imagine how much I loved this mash-up of those two favorites. It made no difference to me as far as telling Hunter and Devon’s story that this was novella length. Author Loren does a stellar job at telling this couple’s backstory and what led them to where there at this point in their lives. She also did a stellar job in having the reader feel every emotion that the characters shared. And let Me tell you, there is an abundance of emotion.

Hunter’s family is uptight and straight-laced without the ability to bend or see outside of what they think is “normal” so that put a ton of strain on Hunter when he started having an attraction to Devon. Poor Hunter was confused but also anxious to explore these feelings. I loved him and his willingness to try something new. Devon is so amazing and supportive with Hunter and helping him navigate these unfamiliar waters. HE was patient and sweet but also damn sexy.

God, I loved them together and was so heartbroken when they ended up going their separate ways. Luckily fate had a plan for these two and brings them back together and when she does it’s so ridiculously hot and sweet all at the same time. The relief and happiness in both of them at the end was palpable and I sat there was a goofy grin on my face when I read the very last page.

Overall, this was one of the best m/m books I’ve read this year and I will certainly be picking up the rest of the series. Thank you, Ms. Loren, for a beautiful and steamy read!

Excerpt:

This was so not his scene. Hunter tried to move to the beat of the pop song as the crowd pulsed around him near the front of the stage, but this music was not his thing and the high school chick in front of him kept casually grinding herself back against him, making everything awkward. He wasn’t drunk enough for this shit. Grinding girl sent him a look over her shoulder that obviously was some sort of invitation, but he couldn’t be less interested. She had on a pound of makeup and reeked of some kind of sweet perfume and alcohol. No thanks.

Dev was having no trouble keeping up with the beat, though, and seemed to be having a way better time. The shots he’d taken before they came in had probably helped. The kid had been in a weird mood the whole ride here. But now he was bouncing next to Hunter, face lit up with pride, as he watched his baby sister perform on stage. Hunter took a long sip off his cup to finish his beer, entertained more by the view of his tipsy, dancing friend than what was on stage or the girl in front of him.

“Isn’t she amazing?” Devon yelled.

Hunter smiled and tossed his empty cup to the ground, Dev’s exuberance contagious. “Yep. She’s totally hot.”

Devon shoved him in the shoulder. “Watch it, big man. That’s my baby sister. I’ll kick your ass.”

Hunter caught Devon’s wrist before he moved away, the heat of Dev’s skin against his palm sending a jolt through him, and without thinking, he pulled him closer. “I’d like to see you try, Easton.”

Devon’s gaze flicked to Hunter’s grip on his wrist then to the scant space between them, confusion flaring there. “What are you doing?”

Hunter knew he should let go, but somehow he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Holding on to Dev in the mass of chaos felt like finding safe harbor in the eye of a storm. He put his mouth close to Devon’s ear. “I’m using you as a shield. I need you to protect my virtue from the jailbait over there. Maybe she’ll think we’re together.”

Devon glanced over at the girl, who peered back again, focus zeroing in on Hunter. Dev gave him a wicked look, his smirk loose from his buzz. “We’ve got this. Just follow my lead.” Devon hooked his finger in Hunter’s belt loop and dragged him over to the spot he’d been dancing in. The music pumped through the arena, and the colored lights sparked over Devon in a haphazard, colorful pattern, revealing only pieces, snapshots. Hunter couldn’t look away. Dev rocked to the beat. “Come on, big man. Dance. Let’s shatter her little schoolgirl fantasy about landing a college guy for the night. Let her think I’m taking you home.”

Hunter laughed, nervous all of a sudden. “I suck at dancing.”

“Nobody sucks at dancing at a concert. Just close your eyes and move.”

Hunter wasn’t sure that was the truth, but he did have a little buzz going, and Dev’s grip on his waist was keeping him in time with the music. He closed his eyes and hooked an arm around Devon’s neck, focusing on letting go and moving with the beat.

“There you go,” Dev declared. “Just move.”

Hunter rarely danced and definitely had never tried with a guy, but before long, he could feel himself getting swept up in it—the beer, the music, the skill of his dance partner. All if it was pulsing through him with an electric edge, waking up everything and dragging him into the oblivion. He opened his eyes, finding Dev with flushed cheeks and laughing eyes. Devon spun around and then grabbed Hunter again without missing a beat. God, the kid was something. Devon was in his element tonight. Not that he ever held back. He was open about who he was, but seeing him in this environment proved that Devon still held some things in check around the frat house. Here Devon was free . . . and fucking magnetic.

The draw was something Hunter was learning to get used to. From the beginning, Devon had had this undeniable pull on him, but it’d been purely a friendship vibe. They connected and just got each other’s humor. Their differences had been a nonissue.

But after the night they’d shared his bed, the pull had gotten decidedly less clear cut. Hunter hadn’t lied when Devon had asked if he looked at guys in a sexual way. He didn’t. He was just starting to look at Devon that way. And it was completely fucking with his head.

Devon turned and put his back to Hunter, keeping close but moving with the music and leaving enough space between them that it didn’t cross into bump-and-grind territory. That’s when stalker girl decided she had an opening. She shimmied over and tried to work her way in between him and Devon. Her body brushed against Hunter’s arm in seductive invitation. But before she could slide into Devon’s spot, Hunter took a wide step, grabbed Devon’s hand, and pulled Dev against him hard. Their chests collided, and Devon’s eyes widened.

At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall. At twenty-five his body hovered over mine. Every girl’s fantasy became my reality. I was dating a rockstar. Yet I was slowly falling for another man. The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.

Flynn Beckham was the opening act.

Dylan Ryder was the headliner.

What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?

I’ll tell you what happens. Things get ugly.

My Review:

Beat is book number two in author Vi Keeland’s Life On Stage series and being a big fan of Ms. Keeland’s writing, I was so excited to get my hands on this book. Well, let me say that I blame today’s bags under my eyes on the sexy and deliciously sweet Flynn Beckham because once I started this book, there was no way I could put it down. I loved it so much!

This was a love triangle that had me all in all sorts of knots, but in a good way. Lucky is totally caught off guard when she thinks her life is pretty set and as good as it was going to get. Which wasn’t terrible. She owned a bar, had a rock-star boyfriend she and the rest of the single girls in the U.S. had pined over since being teenagers, and a great best friend. All in all it was pretty good. But there was always something unsettled right under the surface she chose to just bury it deep. Then she met Flynn. Suddenly that unsettled feeling came to the forefront…but inexplicably became calm when he was around. She knew it had to mean something. She wasn’t sure she wanted to admit it. Too bad she wouldn’t have much of a choice when her boyfriend decides to take her on tour with his band at the same time the band’s bass player is replaced…with Flynn.

Now she was stuck on a tour bus with her boyfriend and the guy she was beyond attracted to. Too bad they weren’t one in the same. And that’s when my nerves kicked in! I didn’t know what I wanted Lucky to do. On one hand, Dylan, is an ok guy in the beginning; even though rumors of him cheating were always in the periphery. On the other hand Flynn is just so amazing all around. He’s talented, funny, kind, caring, understanding, and is so good to his little niece that I just about died. There truly wasn’t one thing I didn’t love about him. Lucky sure did have her hands full with these two. But one wins out in the end and while I won’t tell you who, I will say that I was SO FREAKING HAPPY! (so, yeah, you can probably guess who it is lol!)

This book had it all. I laughed, I cried, I blushed…I loved it ALL. Ms. Keeland once again wrote an amazing story with characters I just adored. Thank you, Vi!

Excerpt:

Getting through Flynn singing is incredibly hard. The way his throat moves, the way his mouth caresses each syllable of the low, raspy sound that falls from his lips. I should be watching his posture, his breathing, the way his larynx forces out the words—but instead I’m focused on the beauty of his mouth and how the sound of his voice glides over my body, making it feel both warm and tingly at the same time. I’m lost when the song finishes, yet I haven’t really observed him yet.

“So. Give it to me straight. What am I doing wrong?”

Ummm…absolutely nothing from what I can see. Everything was perfect. Don’t change a thing. Shit. “Could you do it again? Maybe a different song, one you haven’t sung in a while. So the sounds are less familiar to your body. Sometimes that can give me a different view.” At least I make it sound like a real thing when the words come out.

He sings again, and this time I force myself to observe. “Hmm…your posture is great. Most people have a tendency to favor one side of their neck, which makes them tilt a bit when they speak, and it becomes magnified when they sing, which puts strain on the muscles around the vocal cords. Your alignment is perfect.”

“Thank you, it goes with the rest of my perfectness,” he says with a teasing arrogance that, from the little I know about him, I know isn’t real.

“You didn’t let me finish.”

“You can’t now tell me I’m not perfect. I was already basking in the glow.”

“Actually, it was perfect…but almost a little too perfect. Which makes me think you don’t usually stand this way when you sing.”

“It isn’t the way I normally sing. On stage, I usually have a guitar over my shoulder. Even if I’m not playing it, it’s there.”

“Well, I need to see you holding your instrument to assess you fully, then.”

Flynn’s eyebrows quirk up and the dirty grin on his face is unmistakable.

“The guitar. I’d need to see you holding the guitar.

“That’s a shame.” He shrugs, the playful smile still on his face. “But okay. It’s your call. Whatever instrument you want to see me hold is fine with me.”

“How big of you.”

“So now we’re talking about the other instrument again?”

I roll my eyes, although this conversation is having more of an effect on me than I let on.

ARC Review….Easy Charm by Kristen Proby

25325798

Synopsis:

Gabrielle Boudreaux, the youngest of the Boudreaux clan, is a single mother of her young son, Sam. Running a Bed and Breakfast at the family plantation house at the edge of the Mississippi River, Gabby loves her inn, her boy and her family. She meets new people every day, and takes pride in the house and land that has been in her family for more than five generations. Blessed beyond measure, she’s also lonely, although she would never admit that to anyone. Until Rhys O’Shaughnessy walks through her door, brooding and wounded and the sexiest thing she’s ever laid eyes on.

Rhys has been at the top of his game as a major league pitcher for the Boston Red Sox for more than ten years. Baseball is in his blood. But when he tears his rotator cuff and has to sit a season out, he retreats to Inn Boudreaux at the recommendation of his cousin, Kate, to heal and work toward building his shoulder back to perfect shape with only one goal in mind: to return to the game he loves. But he didn’t plan on being utterly charmed by a devastatingly beautiful woman and her baseball-loving son.

When Rhys’ shoulder has healed and he’s given the chance to return to his team, will he leave the family he’s come to love behind, or will he stay with Gabby and Sam?

My Review:

Easy Charm is book number two in author Kristen Proby’s Boudreaux Series and after loving the first book, I was so excited and beyond lucky to get an early copy of Gabrielle and Rhys’ story. It lived up to everything I hoped for these two amazing characters. Emotional , sexy, and sweet, Easy Charm is the whole package.

Youngest in the Boudreaux family, Gabrielle isn’t looking for love. She’s got an adorable little boy, Sam, and runs a Bed and Breakfast, both of which keep her with little time to find love. She’s also been burned before and tends to be a bit leery when it comes to finding a knight in shining armor. But what happens when love comes looking for her? What happens when an eligible, handsome, and successful man comes for a stay at the B&B? Would she have the courage to give it a shot?

The last thing Pro baseball player Rhys O’Shaughnessy wanted to do was not play baseball. He lived it. Breathed it. It was his life. But suffering a potentially career ending injury will help a guy realize pretty quickly that he may need to take a rest. He didn’t know what to expect when he was talked into staying at a Bed and Breakfast on the edge of the Mississippi River but the last thing he expecting was to be immediately taken with the owner. She was beautiful and right away he could tell she was a tough cookie both as a mother and as a the proprietress of her business. He could also tell right away that she had some major walls up. He did love a challenge and would make it his mission to break down those walls. He just hoped she would let him.

The thing I love about Ms. Proby’s writing is that it is a delicious balance of sexy and romantic. This was no exception. Rhys is every bit the gentleman when it came to getting Gabrielle to warm up to him. I loved that he respected her and let her set the pace….but when she gives in and gives him the green light?  Holy hotness, Batman!! Gabrielle is a strong woman. She was dealt a tough hand when she was younger but she has learned a lot from that. She’s learned that she can rely on herself and didn’t need a man in her life to validate who she was both as a woman and mother to her son. Speaking of which, Sam is so damn cute and his personality leaps off the pages! Being a mom of a son myself, I truly appreciated the attention Ms. Proby spent on him in the story.  After all, he is a part of who Gabrielle is and I just loved their dynamic.

Of course, all good things must come to an end and the little bubble they resided in along the Mississippi pops when Rhys has to face the fact that his injury has healed and he can return to his life. I won’t lie, I was a nervous wreck and wanted nothing more than for them to stay together and I definitely cried some tears along the way. They both deserved happiness so much! Luckily, Ms. Proby writes some of the best endings around. She also wrote some of the hottest almost-at-the-end-of-the-book-and-I-can’t-give-spoilers-about-why-it’s-so-hot sex in this book and I loved it! (trust me, you’ll know what I mean after to read it *insert evil laugh*)

Thank you, Ms. Proby, for once again giving us a story filled with love, delicious heat, and amazing characters. This will continue to be a series I look forward to reading more of!

ARC Review….Dream Of You by Jennifer L. Armentrout

1001 Dark Nights_Jennifer L. Armentrout_300dpi

Synopsis:

Abby Erickson isn’t looking for a one-night stand, a relationship, or anything that involves any one-on-one time, but when she witnesses a shocking crime, she’s thrust into the hands of the sexiest man she’s ever seen – Colton Anders. His job is to protect her, but with every look, every touch, and every simmering kiss, she’s in danger of not only losing her life but her heart also..

My review:

Dream of You is story number 4.5 in author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Wait For You series as well as novella number 9 in 1,001 Dark Nights’ 2015 line-up. This was also another first for me, thanks to the intro from 1,001 Dark Nights, and now that I’ve read and loved Dream Of You, I will certainly be picking up the rest of the books in this series!

As if being on the worst date in the history of dating wasn’t a bad enough way to spend an evening, young widow Abby Erickson suddenly finds herself in a circumstance that makes her lame date seem like a paradise….witnessing a murder. Yeah, that would do it. But a bright spot in this epically horrid evening was seeing Colton Anders. Colton, a blast from her high school past was now a detective and one of the men in charge of bringing the killers to justice and keeping her safe in the process.

Fate may have put her in the path of these killers but also out her in the path of her long lost crush. A long lost crush who may have had a thing for Abby, too? As much as she would love to believe that, he was the handsome and popular jock back then and she was the studious book nerd. Sure opposites attract all the time but no way could Colton have a thing for Abby like she did for him all those years ago….or could he? Maybe fate knew a thing or two….

From the very first page of this story I was hooked. Hell, from the very first sentence. Ms. Armentrout completely drew me in and I had so many feelings and emotions for Abby. Sure she witnessed an awful thing and I was scared for her safety, but more than that I was so sad for her that she had lost her husband so young and had really been alone since then. Four years. Alone. She had a few friends and a great job as an editor (which led to some great author and book references that had me grinning like the fan girl I am) but her love life was non-exsitant and that made me so sad for her. But then, like the sun coming out on a cloudy day, things started looking up for this amazing and extremely relatable gal. Colton comes back into her life and shocks her by admitting he had feelings for her but had never acted on them. I loved that their past was a connection that came back to life when this unexpected event happened. It’s their second chance and one they grab onto with both hands. It’s not without a bit of apprehension, however. This leads me to one of my absolute favorite things about this story….Abby is just like so many of us when it comes to her body image. She’s not unhappy per se, just not totally comfortable with herself and the way she looks and that resonated deeply with me, as I imagine it will with many readers. We all have our insecurities and when Abby’s friend gives her the come-to-Jesus talk, I wanted to cheer and shout from the rooftops how much I loved the words written in that paragraph! It’s possibly one of the best parts of a book I’ve read and one that will stay with me. Kudos to Ms. Armentrout for writing what so many of us needed to hear!

Dream Of You is suspenseful, sweet, sexy, emotional; and with wonderful characters, it’s the total package. I cannot wait to go back and start this series from the beginning and have no doubt I will love each book. Thank you, Ms. Armentrout, for a fantastic read!

Searching For Beautiful by Jennifer Probst….Blog Tour Stop & Review

SFB_BLOGTOUR

SearchingforBeautiful

Synopsis:

The highly anticipated third novel in the Searching For series from Jennifer Probst, “one of the most exciting breakout novelists” (USA Today), featuring a runaway bride and the man who wants to be more than just her best friend…

Genevieve MacKenzie has her life completely under control. About to wed the charming Chief doctor at the local hospital, she’s an up-and-coming surgeon with everything she could ever want. Until an escape through the church window on the day of her wedding sends her life into a tailspin…and flings her right into her best friend’s arms.

When Wolfe catches his best friend falling out a window on her wedding day, he doesn’t ask questions. He whisks her away, determined to watch over her and discover the truth behind her desperate escape. But when his feelings turn more than platonic, he realizes he may risk his most important relationship in order to protect his damaged heart, and the woman he loves.

Can Genevieve and Wolfe’s friendship turn into something deeper—or is it already too late for true love?

My review:

Searching For Beautiful is book number three in author Jennifer Probst’s Searching For series and I loved, loved, loved this book. Loved.

Never in her wildest dreams did Genevieve MacKenzie think her life would be in this much of a mess. She never thought she would have been about to marry an emotionally abusive man, never thought she would have walked out of her wedding, never thought she would be letting everyone around her down. She wasn’t that girl. She was the one with her head on straight and always succeeded in everything she did. And yet here she was….a mess. Luckily she had Wolfe by her side. Her best friend was always by her side though. And she loved him for it. And with things in such turmoil around her, she needs it more than ever. The thing was she really needed to stop her thoughts from dipping into friends with benefits territory. She had just left her fiancée, she shouldn’t be thinking about Wolfe that way. Man, it was hard….

Wolfe never had anything to thank fate for…until now, when he sees his best friend escaping out of the wedding chapel window and begging him to take her away. Fate got a high-five for this. Since Gen’s fiancée had tried to limit the time they spent together, he hadn’t seen her in entirely too long. But now she needed him nd he would move heaven and earth to make her happy and whole again. She never came out and said it, but he knew her fiancée was a controlling jerk. Now he had her back in his life, and he would be her knight in shining armor…even if he was anything but. And he would cherish every minute they had together because as awful as it made him, he would never stop thinking about Gen and never quit wondering if he could be the type of man worthy of someone like Gen. But he never would be…

Together, Gen and Wolfe have a chance.  A chance at love. A chance at a happy ending. But will they take it?

I’ve been a huge fan of author Probst’s writing for a few years now. She writes amazing characters with depth and emotion. Story lines that are interesting and entertaining. She ways delivers a great read. But this book was by far, her best book yet. There were so many layers in this highly emotional story that I just couldn’t stop reading and was devouring every page. Wolfe broke my heart. He’s an amazing character with a childhood that, the way Ms. Probst wrote it, had me crying big ugly tears and wanting to reach through the pages and hug him. The horror he endured was unimaginable and made me want a happy ending for him with a desperate passion. Gen was equally amazing. The situation she found herself in was one that too many women find themselves in and in writing her story, Ms. Probst gives a voice to the many victims of domestic violence. The relationship between Gen and Wolfe grew from friends to lovers in such a delicious pace that when they finally make the jump into a physical relationship, it was sublime. Smoking hot and charged with emotion, I adored them together! There are many stumbles along the way for these two, but I knew Ms. Probst would give them the happiness they were so worthy of.

If there’s one book you pick up after reading one of my reviews, I hope this is it. With so much to love in this story, I highly recommend it. Thank you, Ms. Probst, for one hell of a fantastic read!
