GOD DAMNIT, Lauren!!! I love you and I hate you right now. LOL This book was so much more than what I thought it was going to be when I started reading it. I went into this book blind – I didn’t read the blurb and just dove right in. And let me tell you, even after finishing this, I went back and read the blurb and it still won’t prepare you for everything and to be honest, I love that the blurb doesn’t give the story away. But geezus, this book had me in a ball of emotions.

I am going to say this now and get it out of the way. If this book came with any type warning as to what is going to possibly happen in this book, the whole plot of this book would have been ruined. So any reader out there that states they wish they had an inkling of what was going to happen needs to be quiet; giving away any portions of a book because the reader needs “to be prepared” for what is going to happen is ridiculous. You need to go into this book without any knowledge of what is to come – enjoy the “suspense” of what the author is writing. It just makes the book that so much more enjoyable and meaningful.

I am writing this review with tears streaming down my face, even a day after I finished this book; I just can’t hold them in. This book broke me, it really did. I applaud Lauren for writing such a heart wrenching book, but I want to “yell” at her too for making me feel so much. LOL But in all honesty, I love when an author is able to pull such strong emotions from me – I was completely vested in these characters and their story; they became like family to me.

I won’t say much about this book except is it soooo much more than the blurb. Kenzie is one hell of a strong woman; she’s a god damn pillar of strength. I just can’t fathom being in her shoes, but she definitely made me want to be just as strong as she. And Connor – that man is one in a million. There are no others like him. This story is heart wrenching yet so beautiful. I can’t say enough wow’s to express my feelings on this book.

Something I feel that is worth mentioning too, is the songs that Lauren mentions throughout this book. Many of the books I read, songs are always mentioned in them and at times I do look them up, and sometimes I just ignore it altogether. However, with this book, these songs were a very important part of the story and I felt moved to look up the lyrics to them and even listen to them (when I could) while reading this book. And wow are they even more impactful than I anticipated.

And that’s all you are getting from me on that. Just be prepared for more when you read this book. The story is so beautiful but will make you cry. Once you start this book, you won’t be able to stop reading it. I finished this book while I was at work because I had to know how it all played out. And yes, I was ugly crying so hard, I had to leave my office to compose myself.

Lauren’s message behind this story is something we all take for granted daily. Live life to it’s fullest, each day is a blessing. Never take for granted what you already have; it’s not always greener on the other side.

Lauren, you are a diamond in the rough that everyone needs to know about. Your writing is impeccable. Your characters are so real and their stories are amazing. And I love that write not only contemporary but erotic/bdsm novels. I can’t wait to read more from you in the future.

I have to say that I was rooting for one in particular and in the end, he did win out, which of course made me even happier.

I can’t not mention Noely’s best friend and co-host, Dylan in this review. Dylan is a hoot and definitely a great partner-in-crime for Noely. She may be happily married, but she loves hearing all the juicy tidbits just as much as we do and she cracks me up the whole book with her antics. We all need a Dylan in our lives, just saying.

Meghan does not leave us hanging either. We do get to see how the other two men move on in life with their own books, which are the next two in this series. And no, I am not spoiling who wins her heart – read and find out. I guarantee you will enjoy every step of Noely’s dating adventures.

I didn’t realize how close I was to the restaurant because I’m ten minutes early. Does that make me seem desperate? No, I chastise myself. It shows that I respect the other person’s time . . . right?

God, dating is the worst. There are so many unspoken rules you have to follow to not look desperate, or to not look like a psycho, or a creep, or horny, or—

“Can I help you, miss?”

Straightening up, I turn toward the hostess stand, which is a beautifully carved piece of wood. Standing behind it is an exotic, tall woman with long black hair, stunning grey eyes, and a massive engagement ring on her hand. Please tell me she got that rock from dating someone in this program.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that happiness for my life is dependent on getting married, but to see a success story in the flesh—particularly for me—would be encouraging.

“Hi, yes, I’m Noely Clark. I have a date at seven tonight with”—I lean forward, feeling silly and whisper—“with WindsorKnot.”

Her smile is kind and reassuring, making me feel a little calmer. “Yes, Miss Clark, I have you here for seven. You’re date hasn’t arrived yet, so can I show you to the bar for a drink while you wait?”

“That would be lovely, thank you.”

With my clutch tucked under my arm, I follow tall, dark, and beautiful to the bar where a very handsome Asian man is standing with a towel draped over his shoulder and a bright grin on his face. He’s wearing a button-up shirt with rolled sleeves, a brown vest covering his chest, which totally channels his inner Justin Timberlake.

“Danny, this is Miss Clark. She has a reservation at seven. Would you be so kind to make her whatever drink she would like?”

“Of course.” He winks at the hostess who presses her warm hand on my arm.

“Enjoy, Miss Clark. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. My name is Veronica, this is Danny, and we will be happy to serve you in any way.” With a parting grin, she moves back to her hostess spot.

Well, she’s nice.

“Miss Clark, please take a seat. What would you like?”

My tight, formfitting red dress makes my hop onto the bar stool a difficult task, but with a pleading prayer to the dress gods and a swift jump, I situate myself, only breaking a minor sweat.

I let out a sigh of relief and place my hands on the bar in front of me, scanning the glitzy bottles of “muscle relaxant.” “Hmm . . . how about a Moscow Mule?”

“Coming right up.” He gets to work and I watch as he magically floats around the bar, pulling the ingredients. “We recently bought new copper mugs, and I’ve been dying to use them.”

“Yeah? Am I the first?”

Winking, he says, “You are.”

If I didn’t know any better, I would say Danny is a bit of a flirt. Either that or he’s super friendly. Or simply made to be a bartender.

From beneath the bar, Danny pulls out a shiny, hammered-copper mug, and I’m instantly taken by the design. So sleek, just like its surroundings. The restaurant, with its white exposed brick, natural wood features, electric colors, and stone tabletops, is sexy, yet inviting. The friendly waitstaff is an absolute bonus. Every table is cornered off in its own spot, never getting too close to the other tables around it, and the mood lighting is on point with dim Edison bulb lights hanging from the ceiling and tabletop candles. I’m feeling the mood.

Despite the welcoming atmosphere, I can’t help but feel nervous, even after my brief exchange with WindsorKnot. There’s something to say about a blind date: the anticipation, the unknown, the knowledge that you’re having dinner with someone to possibly form a romantic relationship. It’s intimidating, but exhilarating all at the same time.

Could this be the last time I ever go on a first date? Will he like me? Will he want to get to know me?

Butterflies float around in my stomach and my cheeks heat as Danny places a napkin in front of me, topped by my drink with a lime slice on the side.

“Here you go, Miss Clark. Please enjoy.”

I smile politely. “Thank you.” When I take a sip, I’m instantly assaulted by the ginger-lime combination. Perfect. “This is fantastic.”

“Good.” Danny winks again and like an old-time bartender, starts drying a tumbler with the towel hanging over his shoulder. Eyeing me for a second, he asks, “A little nervous?”

After taking a sip from my drink, I lick my lips and nod. “Just a little.” I scrunch my nose, squinting ever so slightly. “Is it obvious?”

“Nah, you look pretty chill compared to a lot of blind daters I see come through the door.”

“Oh, I’m sure you see a lot of different reactions to these dates.” I lean forward, the cold wood of the bar cooling my sweaty hands, and whisper, “Any good stories you can tell me?”

Danny chuckles quietly and leans forward himself, taking a look from side to side before answering. “Plenty, but looks like your date just arrived.”

My date just arrived?

The temperature in the room seems to go up a thousand degrees as my body seizes and my shoulders tense. “Oh God, can you see him? Is he hot? What does he look like? Should I turn around? No, I shouldn’t, he would know I was checking him out.” Whispering a little louder, I ask again, “Just tell me, is he cute?”

Danny’s eyes scan over my head and his smile stretches across his face. “That’s for you to judge, not me.” Damn you, Danny.

Oh Christ, I’m not ready.

That’s right, I’m not freaking ready for this.

I get it, I know I said I was ready, that I wanted to do this, that I was all-in, that I wanted to find my soul mate, but now that I’m here, seconds from meeting “the one,” I’m pretty sure I’m going to throw up. Yep, I’m going to throw up. I can feel it rising.

Oh God, I’m going to retch all over him, right on his shoes. I know it. It’s bound to happen.

“Relax, you’re going to have fun,” Danny whispers before he turns to the bottles behind him.

As if the light hairs on my arm can sense it, they stand at attention as the sound of faint footsteps come closer.

Click, click, click. The cement floor leaves zero room for sneaking up on anyone.

My Review:

Beautiful Lawman is the fourth book in author Sophie Jordan’s Devil’s Rock series and while I have loved the series so far, I have to say this was my favorite yet. Man, oh, man, how I loved me some Hale!

This was totally a modern-day Cinderella story of sorts. Piper’s been battling her family’s tarnished reputation in her small town all while trying to raise her younger sister, keep her dead-end job, and stay close to her imprisoned brother. She has been through so much in her life already and the last thing she wants is any trouble. She’s just going to keep her head down, get through each day until her brother is released, and then they can all leave this town. Unfortunately, when her little sister gets into a bit of trouble, sexy Sheriff Hale enters the picture. Once he’s in the mix, things become deliciously complicated and the attraction between these two can’t be ignored.

I loved these two characters. Piper is one helluva string gal and takes anything life can throw at her in stride. I loved that about her. Hale is a total good guy with an alpha side I ate up with a spoon. Together they are combustible. She’s got her defenses up and he’s determined to break them down and the push and pull that comes with that is sublime. I just loved it!

Now, I have to admit while I was reading I was totally picturing Hopper from Stranger Things. Hale isn’t described like that physically in the book at all, but his no-nonsense and sometimes gruff personality totally gave me the Hopper vibes and I adore me some Hopper!

While you don’t have to read the series as a whole before you get to this book, it’s such a great series I recommend you do.

ALL THE STARS FOR THIS TRILOGY!!!

Let me start this off my saying this has got to be one of my favorite reads this year. Not the book, but the entire trilogy!!! This trilogy is the first I’ve read by Meghan and she has won me over big time!!

Sinful Empire is the conclusion to Mount and Keira’s story. And let me tell you, Meghan keeps on delivering the angst, drama and hotness in this book. There isn’t a slow down at any point, if anything, she ramps it up a bit in this one. I devoured this book as quickly as my busy life allowed me to.

The King has finally found his Queen, the one he was never looking for. But their road is definitely not an easy one. It’s riddled with bullets, lines being crossed and dead bodies.

“Revolution is not without bloodshed, and neither is vengeance.”

I won’t go into any of the details on what happens in this book. Just know that this book keeps the pace with the others with regards to the drama, suspense and hot as hell bedroom scenes – actually, I don’t think any of their sex scenes are even in the bedroom in this one; but they are damn hot ones! HA! Not only is the action hot and heavy there, but Meghan keeps us on our toes with everything happening around Mount and Keira.

Meghan does a magnificent job of keeping the flow with this one just as enticing and exciting as the previous ones. Yes, these two are finally getting their HEA, but as is their life, it’s not without problems. Meghan keeps her characters true to who they are and doesn’t change them just because their situations change.

I absolutely love that she doesn’t make Mount this pussyfoot man after realizing how much he feels for Keira. He’s still a man who stays in the shadows, a ruthless man who delivers pain to those who cross him and that doesn’t change just because Keira is in his life now. And Keira is a still fierce woman to reckon with and doesn’t become all mushy on Mount because things are building between them. She still pushes him and his men and doesn’t back down at all. She’s really starting to realize who she is and what power she holds.

Meghan stays true to the story line and her characters throughout the entire 3 books. And that’s what makes this trilogy even better. Yes, they finally get their HEA, yet everything is still the same. There isn’t one thing that I would change in this whole series/trilogy. I love it!!

I am looking forward to Savage Prince in the coming year!!

My Review:

Dawn of Surrender is part of Liliana Hart’s MacKenzie Family series and is the last 2017 release in the 1,001 Dark Nights collection. After finishing this novella, I have to say, hands down this is my all time favorite MacKenzie story. It was simply sublime!

This novella is he prequel of the entire MacKenzie Family series and give us a look into how it all began. There was something so special about this story. Seeing Cole and Elizabeth’s relationship begin, grow, and turn into a marriage and foundation that started one of the most beloved book families was just so incredible. I’m not sure what it was about this tale that drew me in so much…maybe it was the simplicity of the time it was set in or the pureness of a husband and wife learning one another and becoming a strong couple or maybe it was the combination of all of that. All I know is that this story is still with me and I have no doubt will be for quite some time.

Thank you, Ms. Hart, for giving us this incredible tale. I cannot tell you how much I loved it!

My Review:

No Reservations is the newest work from author Kristen Proby and it part of her Fusion series as well as novella number 22 in the 2017 1,001 Dark nights lineup. I adore Ms. Proby’s Fusion series and was so excited to get more of these fab characters!

I love when a no strings relationship turns into a full-fledged strings and all sorts of feelings attached situation! This story was such a perfect example of when that trope is done so damn well. These two characters were so fun to read. Hot, steamy, flirty, and down right delicious! I devoured this novella!

Whether you’re already a fan of Ms. Proby’s writing or this is your first taste, I know you will love No Reservations as much as I did!

My Review:

Dirty Filthy Fix is the newest in author Laurelin Paige’s Fixed Trilogy and is the 21st release in 1,001 Dark Nights’ 2017 line-up. I always know I can count on a decadently sexy, emotional story from Ms. Paige and this was certainly no exception. I loved every minute of this novella!

I imagine it has to be hard to pack such a punch in a novella length story, although when it comes to Laurelin Paige, you’d never know it. From the very start we are treated to complex characters with wonderfully layered personalities. I loved Trish and how well she knew herself and what she wanted out of men and her sex life. Even when presented with some hard choices, she didn’t compromise in what makes her happy. I loved that. I also loved Nathan for the same reasons. He is unapologetically who he is and wants to live the life he’s made for himself. On the flip side, they both are willing to compromise to give their relationship a try. Man, I loved the ending to this book and how they made things work!

Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the wonderfully sexy and sensual scenes Nathan and Trish share. My goodness, Ms. Paige delivers on the heat and then some!

Dirty Filthy Fix is one helluva delicious fix, that’s for sure! Whether you’re a long-time Laurelin Paige fan or this is your first taste, I know you will love this story as much as I did!

OMG Meghan – what are you doing to me?!?! I can’t get enough of this trilogy!! As soon as this book landed on my kindle, my whole body was dying to jump into this book and see what was happening next. I am seriously OBESSED with Keira and Mount.

First off, if you have not read the first book in this series, Ruthless King, go do that right now. Just stop reading my review (it may spoil something) and go read it. DO IT!! Why are you still reading this???? For those who have read it, continue on….or just go start this book now because like me, you need to know what happens!!

Defiant Queen continues on with Keira and Lachlan’s story and Meghan’s does not let up on anything. The book continues as the perfect pace with an amazing mix of action packed moments and holy shit sex scenes!! I couldn’t out this book down at all.

We learn a bit more about Lachlan with some snippets of his past and Keira is still fighting herself with her body wanting Lachlan and her mind raging a war against that. She knows that this will never be more than a debt being paid but when Lachlan starts complicating things more, she’s starting to see a different side to him.

Keira and Lachlan have this magnetic push and pull with one another. And with everything else going on around them, it just adds this perfect blend of angst, drama and sexual tension. I love every damn word in this book!! And that ending – OMG. I just can’t.

OMG!!! Monica – what you are doing to me?!?! WHY?!?! That ending has crushed me!!

So yea, as you can tell, this book ends in one hell of a cliffy. And the saving grace is that we do not have to wait long for the second book. And I for one, am extremely grateful that Monica didn’t try to wrap up their story in a few more chapters to rush everything and give us one book. Yes, I hate my having my heart ripped from chest and watching it sit on my bookshelf beating away til January, when I can possibly put it back in. But I am more than happy that Monica is sticking to her guns and giving us the complete and full story that Amira and Damien deserve and not this rush, hurry up shit that puts everything together in this happy package in a few short chapters.

Ok – onto this book. I am truly not sure what to say that won’t give anything away. Monica is one author I know that I can depend on to deliver, the suspense, angst and hotness all wrapped into one amazing story. I went into this story blind, as I have with every single one of Monica’s books since her first book. You do not read any of her previous books to read this one.

El Santo is about Amira and Damien’s past and how they came to know one another. There is nothing pretty about the environment they grow up in. Damien was raised to be a soldier. Early on he knew what his life would like; he just never realized how revered and feared he would he become to everyone. Amira was the one person who never feared him. She saw the darkest part of him but knew behind that darkness was someone who just as much of a pawn as she was.

“One day soon, I won’t be the man who saved her. I’ll just be another fucking monster that haunts her dreams.”

Monica weaves a very emotional story into this suspenseful plot. My adrenaline was pumping the whole time I read this book; my emotions on high waiting for the next twist or turn to take place. This book delivers the ugly, raw and heartbreaking truth of Amira and Damien’s fated relationship. And damn, if it wasn’t worth every emotional second.

Well, if the last book I read by Kandi was any indication that she really knows how to wrangle your emotions, this book definitely proves that once again.

Kandi wrote another meaningful and strong story. It touches your heart in so many ways. It opens your eyes to the way people see things. Not only does this story make you find the happiness in everything, but it makes you also see why some people just can’t see that light; why people struggle with depression. And sometimes there just isn’t a reason why; it just is and that’s ok.

Emery and Cooper are two polar opposite people in every aspect possible. She’s light, he’s dark. She sees hope in everything; he sees nothing but a dead end. She wishes for her true love; he doesn’t believe in true love. But these two also teach each other in ways they never anticipated.

Emery has a lot more experience in life than Cooper. She’s been cooped in her little town her entire 20 years, but has a goal of getting out and moving to Washington where her dream school is. But her life up until now hasn’t exactly been peachy, but she has refused to let that stop her. Without giving much away, Cooper has used the hurtful words thrown her way to push her forward, to never be like that.

Emery has pretty much lived the perfect life anyone could want. Except he just can’t see the beauty in it. And it’s not because he isn’t grateful, but because he suffers from depression. A depression that he can’t explain and that makes it all the more difficult for him. Only one person in his life has ever understood him, his grandmother. And now she is gone. So he’s set out on the journey he promised her before she passed.

Oh I am getting chills throughout my body just thinking about this journey. Emery picks up Cooper on the first leg of his journey and damn if it’s not a journey of a lifetime. Not just because of the places they visit, but how they both each grow a bit along the way – in the short span that it is, they grow in ways neither expected. And that is all I am giving you. Because their journey is one you need to take with them without any insight.

Kandi, thank you for writing another poignant and meaningful book. A lot of times we read to get lost in the characters or other worlds; to let our imagination take over. And then we read books like this where we get wrapped up in the emotions and the heart of the story because it’s something that needs to be heard and understood.

To fellow readers, yes this is just story that I know you will enjoy and fall in love with the characters. But know that you are also getting one hell of a meaningful story that rings true to life for so many people.

My Review:

Prince Roman is the newest work from author C.D. Reiss and is novella number 19 in the 2017 1,001 Dark Nights lineup. I always know I can count on Ms. Reiss for a sexy, fun, flirty story with a kick ass heroine and boy, oh, boy this was no exception.

As in the real world, workplace romance can be very very tricky. Never has this been more true than in the situation we find Raven and Roman. You see, Raven is the woman in charge and Roman works for her. That, I must say, was the aspect I most enjoyed. I love a strong female lead and think it is so damn important in this day and age, especially. She was a boss both inside the boardroom and in the bedroom, being unabashed when it came to saying exactly what she desired. But I also loved Roman in that he could let Raven take the lead but also assert his own delicious brand of alpha dominance. Yummy with a capital “Y”!

These two were off the charts smoking hot and I couldn’t get enough of them. Adding to their insanely scorching chemistry is the internal struggle they both go through when they start to realize what was supposed to be a casual, secret fling is turning into much more and the possible ramifications of what that could mean for both of their careers. I don’t want to ruin even one second of their journey for you, so you have to trust me when I say: pick up this book!

Whether you’re already a fan of Ms. Reiss or this is your first taste, I know you will adore Prince Roman!

Biography:

C.D. Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.
