Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren…ARC Review

Love and Other Words is out TODAY!

Synopsis:

Love, loss, friendship, and the betrayals of the past all collide in this first women’s fiction novel from New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Autoboyography, Dating You / Hating You).

The story of the heart can never be unwritten.

Macy Sorensen is settling into an ambitious if emotionally tepid routine: work hard as a new pediatrics resident, plan her wedding to an older, financially secure man, keep her head down and heart tucked away.

But when she runs into Elliot Petropoulos—the first and only love of her life—the careful bubble she’s constructed begins to dissolve. Once upon a time, Elliot was Macy’s entire world—growing from her gangly bookish friend into the man who coaxed her heart open again after the loss of her mother…only to break it on the very night he declared his love for her.

Told in alternating timelines between Then and Now, teenage Elliot and Macy grow from friends to much more—spending weekends and lazy summers together in a house outside of San Francisco devouring books, sharing favorite words, and talking through their growing pains and triumphs. As adults, they have become strangers to one another until their chance reunion. Although their memories are obscured by the agony of what happened that night so many years ago, Elliot will come to understand the truth behind Macy’s decade-long silence, and will have to overcome the past and himself to revive her faith in the possibility of an all-consuming love.

My Review:

Being a huge fan of this writing duo, I was beyond excited to get my hands on an early copy of their newest book. From the very first chapter I knew this was going to be an unforgettable read, and boy was I right. It was simply sublime.

This is a different book we are used to reading from Christina Lauren and it really showcased the talent these two authors hold.  These characters and this story were so fresh, so lovable, so memorable. It’s a story of living a childhood filled with both pain and wonder.  About finding that one person you connect with through the happiest of times and the most trying of times.  About an unbreakable soul-deep connection you can never break, no matter what ups and downs you experience with that person.  It’s a story about forgiveness and love.  A story about learning to let go of the past and embrace what the future may hold.  A story that is so well written you will connect with every word on every page.

I don’t know how these authors do it, but they manage to create worlds that capture a reader every single time.  There were so many reason to love this story.  Macy is an honest and vulnerable gal. Elliott is her total equal in both of those respects. Together they begin as two beautifully endearing kids and grow into interesting and admirable adults.  Unfortunately, there is a painful moment that interrupted their relationship and after years apart fate sees to it that they have the chance to mend what’s been broken between them. What starts out as a relationship of innocence and first love turns into a beautifully emotional and lasting bond built on the love they found when they first met. Truly a love story for the ages!

If I’m being honest, there’s no way I can adequately tell you just how much I adored this book! I laughed, I cried, I devoured every page and this is a book I recommend on the highest level.

Thank you, Christina and Lauren, for this memorable and heartwarming story! #TeamMelliottFOREVA

Wait With Me by Amy Daws…Review

the wait is over

From Buzzfeed to Babble to Scary Mommy and even network television—the most anticipated social media viral sensation is LIVE!

The story of romance writer Amy Daws’ relationship with a little tire shop in South Dakota is a refreshingly fun tale that ends in an auto shop romantic comedy that you have to read!

Daws’ fans have loved watching this story trend, but more importantly, they are loving this 5-star read about a couple who meet outside of a tire shop…

Its LIVE-flipped

When romance novelist, Kate Smith, finds her long lost writing mojo in the customer waiting area of a tire store, the complimentary coffee isn’t the only things that’s hot. But sexy mechanic, Miles Hudson, is just up for a friendly test-drive of her new book idea.
At least, that was the agreement…

I have been a big fan of Amy’s since I read the book, Pointe of Breaking, with Sarah J Pepper and I have followed both authors religiously since then. So I was able to see the goofiness unwrapping with Amy finding herself continuously going to a tire shop to write and all craziness that happened because she kept returning. And that is how this book came to fruition.

Wait With me is a hilarious and very entertaining read. Some of the things that happen in this book did happen to Amy and I love that she intertwined those instances into this story. It made all the more realistic in ways. These characters felt real and their characteristics were honest.

Miles and Kate are two people who normally wouldn’t meet under different circumstances. Kate is struggling to find her writing mojo due to a recent break up. One day, she finds herself writing all the words while her car is getting worked on and comes back to find this tire shop is her place to go.

Miles is a mechanic at the tire shop and finds Kate slipping in and out of the Customer Care Center, not so stealthy she thinks. But it’s on the day that he is taking his non-smoking break that Kate tries pull off the whole stealth-mode approach but ends up walking straight into Miles.

And it’s from here that Amy takes us on this journey of comedy, romance and sexy times. There isn’t one thing that I did not love about this book. Miles and Kate were the best match and challenged one another. The whole story flowed extremely well and felt natural.

Thank you Amy for sharing what you thought were embarrassing moments in your life and turning them into one hell of great story!!

viral sensationIt all began when Daws went to Tires Tires Tires to get a new set of wheels on her car. She was suffering from writer’s block, but apparently the complimentary coffee and cookies cured her. So she decided to bring in cars of friends and family so she could keep writing in the magical waiting room.

Her social media musings had her fans in stitches and it wasn’t long before inspiration struck again. This time…Daws was to write a sexy romantic comedy about a romance novelist who sneaks into a tire shop and gets caught by a hot mechanic. You can imagine where the love story goes from here.

Eventually, the little tire shop opened their arms to Daws, even putting her release date on their marquee sign outside.

It wasn’t long before Buzzfeed got wind of it. Then Scary Mommy. Then InspireMore and several other blogs with followers well into the millions. WGN News in Chicago, Fox 10 in Phoenix and Canada Public Radio are all talking about the adorable feel good story of how inspiration can strike in the strangest of places.

excerpt

She slaps her hand on her knee and bellows gallantly, “But you know what, Miles, you’re right! I should totally find a random hookup tonight.”
“Whoa, I never said anything about random.”
“Well, you’re doing it, so why can’t I?”
I narrow my eyes. “You don’t seem like the random type.”
“Maybe I should be.” Her eyes narrow when she leans in and whispers against my lips. “Can I tell you a secret, Miles?”
“You can tell me anything, Mercedes.”
She giggles and crooks her finger for me to lean in even closer. I’m so close I can smell the faint scent of her cherry lip gloss, and it’s not helping the half boner having a party in my pants.
Her lips graze my ear when she whispers, “My writing makes me horny.”
I nearly choke on my beer. “I’m sorry, what?”
“My writing makes me horny.” She pulls back and nods her confirmation. “I’m serious. I have a sex toy that works really well and really fast, but I miss the heat of a man, ya know?”
My eyes scrunch together, and I rub my fingers in the sockets to make sure I’m awake and hearing this all correctly. “I mean…I don’t really ever miss the heat of man, so I don’t think I know exactly what you’re saying.”
“Fine, the heat of a woman.” She rolls her eyes dramatically “You know what I’m talking about. The heat.”
I frown and shake my head. “You’re going to have to elaborate because I think of a lot of things when I think of women, but their body temperature isn’t one of them.”
“You asked for it.” She laughs and leans in so she’s speaking low and soft and directly into my ear. “The heat of a woman is so much more than temperature. It’s the soft, sensual curves of the female form. The way your fingers dig into the meat of her thighs when she’s wrapped around you. Her smooth, sunken tummy when she’s on her back, the delicate bumps of her ribcage when she’s throwing her head back in pleasure. Tight little nipples in pillows of creamy softness. The fact that you could fold yourself around her and envelop her body almost entirely and still want more. You’re saying you don’t miss that kind of heat?”
I blink slowly, recovering from what just happened. Her voice was a sensual, verbal caress straight on my cock. Then there was the warm heat of her breath on my ear. The deep husk of her tone. The way her warm palm rests softly on my thigh.
Fucking hell.

Savage Prince by Meghan March….Blog Tour & Review

SavagePrince availnowbanner

Who knew things could get even darker and dirtier in New Orleans? New York Times bestselling author Meghan March introduces the Savage Prince of the city, the man you never want to meet.

I do what I want and who I want. I don’t follow anyone’s rules—even my own.
I knew I shouldn’t touch her, but it didn’t stop me.
Didn’t stop me the second time either. Only made me want a third.
My lifestyle suits the savage I am, and she doesn’t.
But Temperance Ransom is my newest addiction, and I’m nowhere near ready to quit her yet.
I’ll have her my way, even if it means dragging her into the darkness.
Hopefully it doesn’t kill us both.

Savage Prince is book one of the Savage Trilogy, set in the same world as Ruthless King, however you do not need to read the Mount Trilogy to devour this scandalously hot new story.

If you have not read a book by Meghan March yet, you have no idea what you are missing out on. This woman blows me away with each new book she comes out with.

This series is set in the same place as her previous series, good ol’ New Orleans. You don’t need to read any of her previous books to know start this series, but she will definitely taunt and tease with you previous characters that will make you want to go back and read their stories too.

Meghan holds nothing back with this book. It starts off with bang, continues through with the drama and sexiness and ends with our jaws smacking the floor. Not once is there any slow down and Meghan gives us just enough bread crumbs to keep us begging for more.

Temperance is the COO of Seven Sinners and thinks she’s going to meet a possible new client for their company. What she ends finding herself walking into, is nothing she ever anticipated but something she has been desperately looking for. This is also where she meets Mr. Mysterious.

I will not give anyway details in this book as this one of those books that even giving a small scruple of info will give away too much that the reader needs to discover as they read. I love these characters and this whole plot line and can’t wait for more!

Meghan delivers a perfect start to this new series and leaves us wanting the next book pronto!!

“That you, Temperance?”
My gaze searches the darkness, interrupted only by the Chinese lanterns and fairy lights hanging from the trees, until it lands on the red dragon emblazoned on the back of a black silk kimono, topped by a fluffy white head of hair.
Shit. My landlady.
“I’m so sorry to disturb you, Harriet. I’ll just—”
She spins around, spry for her advanced age. “Oh, girl, you’ve got sex hair. At least that makes one of us.”
I squeeze my eyes shut in humiliation. “I . . . uh . . . got—”
“Done up right by a real man, I’d say. About damn time, girl. I was starting to think you were a lost cause of all work and no play. Almost wondered if I’d have to find a new tenant to get some entertainment around here.”
I blink twice as she shuffles toward me, fluffy pink marabou slippers on her feet. “You were going to kick me out because I work too much?”
I knew my landlady was a little nutty, but I didn’t realize she was downright crazy.
“It would’ve been a last resort. I was going to send you a male stripper first. Girl, you need some fun in your life, and you do nothing but go between here and work. Boring as hell.”
Her point is finally sinking in, but part of me is still in shock. “I’m boring?”
“Of course you are. I swear, you go out of your way to stay that way too. But not tonight. Tonight, you look like you got dicked down by a real man.” She takes a seat at the outdoor patio table and reaches for a bottle of wine. “Here’s a glass. Now, sit down and consider part of your rent spilling the juicy details.”
Dumbstruck, I close the distance between us and take a seat at the table. “It’s nothing. I swear.”
“Girl, you’re practically walking bowlegged. I’ve been around the block plenty of times. You won’t shock me.”
I reach for the glass of wine and take a long drink. Good Lord, I needed this.
“I shouldn’t even be admitting what I did tonight.”
Harriet’s aged eyes practically light up as she grins. “Those are the best stories. Come now, I’ll take it to the grave.”
I squeeze my eyes shut. “I think I accidentally went to a sex club.”
Harriet’s wineglass clinks the metal of the table. “I knew this was going to be good. How do you accidentally go to a sex club?”
I tell her about the note that came to the office, and rushing to meet the appointment, assuming I was there to sell whiskey . . . and end with the part about running from the room.
Harriet claps with childlike excitement. “There’s hope for you yet, Temperance. When are you going back?”
I’m stunned at her reaction. I didn’t exactly expect her to judge, but I sure didn’t think she’d cheer me on.
“Never. I can’t. That’s not me. I’m not . . .”
“Interesting? Sexually adventurous? Up to be manhandled regularly by a real man?”
“I don’t even know his name!”
Harriet waves off my concern. “If I had a nickel for every man whose name I didn’t know, I’d be even richer than I am now. You can’t take life so seriously. You’ll never make it out alive. Now, you go upstairs, take the rest of this bottle of wine, and get tipsy enough to forget all the shouldn’ts and can’ts. If you need me to do some stalking to find this guy, just let me know. I have connections.”

WHAK cover FINAL_1

Left or right.

It’s that simple, and it isn’t simple at all.

If I turn left, the road will lead me back to the man I promised my life to, the one I’d imagined building a family with, the one who’s done everything in his power to get me back.

If I turn right, the road will take me to the man I loved first, the man who brought me back to life, the man who would do anything to keep me.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn’t know I had.

And I love them both.

My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves — one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself.

The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine too.

Left or right.

All I have to do is take a breath and turn.

What to say? Where to start? I have sat here and stared at my screen for who knows how long trying to figure out what to say, how to say it and just explain the sheer jumbled mess of words and emotions rolling through me.

Romance for the most part is always predictable. Even when there is a lot of drama and angst thrown in, we have a pretty good idea of what the ending looks like, it’s just the journey getting there is unstable. With this book, this duet, you have no idea what the ending will be or how the characters got there.

“I hated them both.
But I loved them both, too.
And for that, I hated myself.”

The first book, I did not rate a 5 stars because I did not get the “HOLY SHIT” feeling. With this book, totally different. Kandi swept me into this story fully and held me in death grip til the end. She had me yelling at my kindle, strangling the poor electronic in frustration and just flat out crying at times. All that was mixed with adding confusion on who I truly felt deserved Charlie in the end.

“The best man for her isn’t even playing.
If he was, neither of us would stand a chance.”

And that was a huge twist for me. I was dead set on one man being the perfect match for Charlie – til this book. Kandi had me viewing both men with new eyes. In the end, the one I wanted Charlie to choose wasn’t who I wanted and to be honest, I don’t think either deserved her. But I am truly ok with who she ended up with; she chose the man that her heart could see past all his flaws. And for that very reason, I am ok with that decision.

“He was fucked up, just like all of us, but he loved Charlie fiercely.”

Everyone was far from innocent in this book and Kandi makes you see that. They all make their own choices and mistakes and have to live with them.

This duet is one that I think everyone should read. The first book didn’t make me feel that way, but this book changed all that. It is worth every damn tear, laugh and burst of anger.

Thank you Kandi for writing something that will forever be with me.

Risen by Cole Gibsen…Release Day Blitz & Review

Blurb

Fans of Vampire Diaries and Twilight will be thirsting for this latest vampire addiction…

My aunt has been kidnapped by vampires, and it’s up to me to save her. Only…I had no idea vampires existed. None. Nada. I’m more of a reader than a fighter, and even though I’d been wishing to escape my boring existence in the middle of nowhere, I’d give anything to have it back now if it meant my aunt was safe.

Then there’s the vampire Sebastian, who seems slightly nicer than most of the bloodsuckers I’ve run into so far. Yes, he’s the hottest being I’ve ever come across, but there’s no way I can trust him. He swears he’s helping me get answers, but there’s more to his story. Now I’m a key pawn in a raging vampire war, and I need to pick the right ally.

But my chances of surviving this war are slim at best, when the side I choose might be the one that wants me dead the most.

So this book took me by surprise. The blurb had me intrigued enough to take a chance on this author (she is new to me) and since I have love of paranormal reads, figured it would at least be something I enjoyed. I did not expect to really get so wrapped up in the story.

There are so many vampire books out there, that it is truly hard to find out that stands out from the rest. Cole has definitely done in her job in making this story unique and different from other stories I have read.

Charlie has had this inkling of wanting to escape her aunt’s little cabin for quite some time. They never venture much outside the woods and as a teenager dangling on the edge of adulthood, Charlie’s anxiety of seeing what else is an itch that needs scratched desperately. And Charlie does get her wish, just not in the way she expected.

“The veil that’s hidden a strange, darker world from what I know has only been pulled back a fraction. I’m not sure I’m ready for more.”

Charlie is taken on a journey she never intended to embark on. Sebastian, a vampire who is her captor, is also her only hope of finding her aunt and rescuing her. Sebastian has many questions and knows that Charlie is a key part of finding those answers.

We are thrown into a world where vampires have different species and have been battling for ages. A war is impending amongst them and as Charlie learns of these different species, she is grasping with her new knowledge and what this means for her. The readers are given a lot of interesting and entertaining facts, but we are left with more questions than we started with and an intense need to know what happens next.

Cole has definitely set up an intriguing world with great characters. The plot development is engaging and just when you think you know everything, she throws in another twist that has you second guessing everything you just thought. I love it!

I cannot wait for the next book to arrive to see what it is in store next for Charlie, Sebastian and Opal. Great start to what I feel will be a very enthralling series.

Excerpt from Risen:

“Don’t say it like that, Charlie. I wanted to protect you.” She tugs on the edge of my cardigan, pulling me toward her. “I love you. You’re the most important thing in my life, do you understand?”

There’s a desperation in her eyes that tightens my throat. Swallowing hard, I nod.

She lets go of me with a sigh. “Maybe I took it too far.” She sweeps her dreadlocks over her shoulder and twists them tightly. “All I’ve ever wanted was to keep you safe.”

Safe. The world spirals, cold and slippery, down my spine. “What are you so afraid of?”
She opens her mouth only to shut it again.
Jax growls.
We turn as he claws at the door.
“The only thing there is to be afraid of,” she whispers. “The monsters.”

But with an election on the line and public pressure rising, Addison—and the cruel hand of fate—might not give him a choice.

My Review:

Getaway Girl is the newest work from Tessa Bailey, one of my all-time fave authors.  From the cover alone I was totally intrigued and when I finally got my hands on this bad boy you can bet I read it in one sitting. It was everything I had hoped it would be a more *dreamy sigh* oh, how I loved this book.

If you know me, you know there is nothing Tessa writes that I haven’t loved.  Every book has dynamic characters you can’t help but fall in love with and a storyline you can’t help but be caught up in from start to finish.  So it was safe to say I would enjoy this book and now that I’ve finished reading I have to say the word “enjoy” is not nearly strong enough a word for how I felt about this book. Hands down, this is the best book she’s ever written and one of the best books I’ve read of 2018 thus far.

From the opening scene where Addison is watching the decimation of a relationship in front of a church full of people at the wedding of the couple whose bond is crumbling, I knew this was going to be one helluva ride. After that moment, Addison and Elijah’s journey begins and it’s filled with emotion, heat, humor, and some scandal.  I ate up every word on every page.

Addison is a spit-fire with a past that’s molded her into a gal with a tough exterior hiding the biggest heart.  She’s resilient and strong, always putting on a brave face no matter how difficult it may be at times.  Elijah is a sweet and honorable Southern gentleman whose panty melting good looks add to a bona fide swoon worthy package.  Addison turns out to be just the fresh breath of air he needs in a life he’s spent doing what’s always been expected of him.  In a life of tradition and expected roles, she’s the one thing he could have never seen coming and he knows immediately she’s something special he needs to hold on to….only catch?  They decided to be friends.  Nothing more than friends. And that’s where the real fun begins.  The sexual tension they are both trying to deny builds to an undeniable level and when they take their friendship to the next level it is so damn perfect.  You can practically feel their frenzied feelings jump off the page.  But feelings and emotions and traditions and families and life are all messy and Addison and Elijah have their work cut out for them.  It’s not an easy road but it’s a road so worth taking and when they realize what they’ve found neither one of them will let any outside factor tear them apart.  I won’t ruin anything for you but I will tell you that the ending of this book is movie-worthy and had me laughing and crying as if I were standing in Addison’s shoes.  It was magical!

Tessa really flexed her writing muscles with this book.  She gave us what we already love from her writing but added layer of something more.  I can’t put my finger on what exactly that more was, but it was there making every moment of this book sing.  Truly, this read was an experience I won’t soon forget.

Thank you, Tessa, for our sassy Addison and our sexy sweet Elijah.

About the author:

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of ten years and six-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

“Hypnotically romantic…this book reads like a sensual dream and I didn’t want to wake up.” – Tessa Bailey, New York Times bestselling author

Escort, a sexy new contemporary romance standalone from New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren is now LIVE!

There is no shame in pleasure. And no love in business.

I have a blind date tonight, and I know with 100% certainty that I’m getting lucky. There shouldn’t be any surprises, not for one as jaded as me, but when I walk into the penthouse suite of L’Etoile, everything changes.

1) For one thing, Bea is heartstoppingly gorgeous. Pale green eyes and endless freckles. Curves I want to spend all night exploring, as if her body was made for me.

2) Her innocence makes me want to use my entire inventory of bedroom tricks on her and then invent a few more.

3) Except that . . . she’s a virgin.

I can initiate her into the world of desire without letting her get attached, can’t I? A few hours of tutoring, and at the end of the night a small fortune will be deposited into my bank account.

Yes, you read that right. There are many words for what I do. After all, mine is the oldest profession. I’m an escort, which means this date is nothing more than a mutually enjoyable transaction.

But once I realize one night with her won’t be enough, I’m the one who’s screwed.

Escort is the first book I have actually read by Skye Warren. Yes, yes I know – I am an idiot for not reading any of her books sooner. I have just about every book of hers on my TBR, I have just never had the time to read any. And wow, I actually hate myself for not making the time to read any of her works sooner.

This book was amazing to me. There was no deep-rooted plot or an in-depth look into these characters. If anything, there is very little digging real low beneath the surface of Bea and Hugo yet they were so captivating to me. They both have a past that plays into this and their story and their interactions were exquisite and enticing. I could not walk away from this book, even if I tried.

Once again, this book proves that a true writer will win you over with their words, regardless of how deep the plot goes. I became so entangled in their story, regardless of how brief and quick it was, that I needed to know how everything turned out. I was so enamored by Hugo and Bea and their lives. And that tiny little twist that Skye adds in just makes this book all the more entertaining.

This book was perfect for me. I devoured it in no time and it left me, elated, aroused and feeling amazing. Yea – words really can do that. If you are like me and have never read one of her books, I highly urge you to read this one. And if you are already a die hard fan of hers, I have no doubt you will love this book too.

The word seems to take her aback. “Pleasure?”

“That’s the nature of my business, yes.” My body tightens, because it would be pleasure indeed to touch this woman. To kiss her. To make her moan for me.

Although I might have to rethink that plan, because the word pleasure might as well have been medieval torture based on the way Bea looks at me. “I thought we were going to have sex.”

She sounds so forlorn it could break my heart.

Instead I laugh, a small huff of breath, because I can’t afford to have a heart.

“Sex,” I say, standing to full height, circling the scuffed oriental coffee table, standing behind her chair. “And pleasure. Pleasure and sex. They’re interchangeable.”

I brush my knuckles over the side of her neck, a demonstration. Her wild curls tickle my skin.

It’s provocative, this. If she had agreed to dinner I would have started with small touches, a glance of my palm against the small of her back as I pulled out her chair, holding her hand while we talked over a glass of wine. Perhaps being so bold as to run a finger along the inside of hers, where it’s more sensitive. She would shiver; her gaze would meet mine.

There’s an order to these things. You can move fast or slow, but there’s still an order.

“We can skip the pleasure part,” she says, her voice high, her breathing faster. Her chest rises and falls in the black dress, made all the more alluring by how much it covers. She’s a mystery. The black sky in the city. I have to work to see her secrets.

“No,” I chide gently. “We focus on the pleasure. That’s the point.”

“What if—” Her breath catches as I drop the back of my hand over her collarbone, a reverse caress. That’s what one does for a skittish creature like her. “What if I have a different point?”

“And what point would that be, my sweet Bea?”

“I want to lose my virginity,” she says, so fast it comes out as a single word.

IWANTTOLOSEMYVIRGINITY. It takes my lust-warmed brain a full minute to comprehend. She’s not only nervous, this woman. She’s a virgin.

My hand freezes. I yank it away. “Pardon me?”

I can’t have heard her correctly. There is no chance in hell that this beautiful young woman, as strange and interesting as she is, is a virgin. No chance in hell that I was the one tasked to be her first. I could not possibly spread her legs and thrust inside her, knowing that no one’s ever been there. It would be a physical impossibility. Never. No possible way.

“It doesn’t have to take long,” she says, suddenly earnest. Almost begging me. “I don’t need…you know…whatever you do for other women. I only want the sex.”

My God. “You are insane.”

A scrunch of her nose. “Well, you don’t have to sound too surprised. It is what I requested when I called. The woman said that’s what you do.”

“I’m not taking your virginity.” On some level I might have guessed this about her. If I had considered it even possible, I might have. Virgins don’t hire me. They stammer and giggle and turn away from me, their protective instincts strong enough to send them in the opposite direction. So perhaps I can be forgiven for not recognizing this one, so forthright.

Bea frowns. “Is that a different department or something?”

She’s mocking me. She’s mocking me for being, well, prudish, and I feel strangely buoyant. I could float away with the absurdity of it. “Yes, it’s a different department. The department of a frat boy who fumbles around in the dark.”

“Are you seriously not going to do it?”

The irony is enough to flatten me, that this is a woman I might have pursued outside this job. She would have been too young for me, even if I weren’t an escort and she wasn’t my client. That wouldn’t have stopped me from wanting her.

But in another incarnation, if I had been one of those fumbling frat boys, I would have followed this woman to the ends of the earth. That’s a hypothetical scenario on multiple levels, but I’m good at hypotheticals, which is another reason I’m good at my job.

So good that I please every single client I’ve ever had.

On Hart’s Boardwalk by Samantha Young…Review

Synopsis:

One of New York Times bestselling author Samantha Young’s most beloved couples returns for the first time in a brand new novella set ten years after her blockbuster bestseller Before Jamaica Lane…

Nate and Liv have a great life together but they miss the spontaneity and freedom they enjoyed early on in their romance. Careers and their children have inevitably kept them busy, so when Nate discovers Liv is feeling disconnected from him, he plans an anniversary trip to the idyllic seaside town of Hartwell, Delaware. There he hopes they will have the opportunity they’ve been craving—a chance to reinvent themselves and fall in love all over again.

With each new day comes a new adventure, from wedding crashing at the five-star boardwalk hotel to pretending they are two strangers having a chance encounter at the boardwalk bar. In the midst of this daring, sexually charged game of romantic rediscovery, Nate and Liv discover the only constant they need is each other.

My Review:

Samantha Young’s On Dublin Street series is one of my favorites. Of all time. Set in Young’s homeland, Scotland, in the bustling city of Edinburgh, each book is an homage to the streets, lanes, roads, and ways—and all the places I can’t wait to visit—and this group of friends that become a family. And my favorite of all is Nate and Olivia from Before Jamaica Lane. Theirs is everything I love about a great romance: friends to lovers, lessons in seduction, curvy librarian heroine and sexy comic-lovin’ hero who only has eyes for her, once he sees the right one was in front of him all along.
 .
The beauty of the series is growing with all the characters and every couple as the series progressed, and getting to see beyond the happily ever afters in nearly every case. On Hart’s Boardwalk is a very special novella because not only do we get a peek at Nate and Olivia TEN YEARS DOWN THE ROAD (!!), but this time, it’s a crossover with Young’s latest series, Hart’s Boardwalk, or Nate and Olivia Do America.
 .
The other real gem with this family is that they feel real, because they practically are real. In Scotland, they’re part of a bustling, everyday setting, and each couple deals with real family struggles and rough starts, terminal illness and substance abuse, incarceration and poverty, the things that affect us all usually in some way or another. And in the ten years since Nate and Olivia fell in love, they have two careers and two adorable daughters, and they love their life. But along with being busy turn-of-the-30-to-40-year-old parents in the midst of full-blown adulthood, Nate has suffered a loss, and Olivia can’t help but feel he’s pulling away for her when she was always the one he ran to. This angsty uncertainty is so in tune with the ups and downs of life, and so relatable. You’re anxious for Nate and Olivia to get back on track, but in the meantime, it feels so real to know that even our storybook characters go through these stages, the same as us.
 .
Dreamy as he is, Nate’s solution is to show Olivia they’ve still got it, and the two set off on a 40th birthday trip for Olivia to the seaside town of Hartwell, Delaware. It’s hot and sexy—every bit as much as the first time around, because now they’re older and wiser. And the sexiest thing about two people as beautiful and loving as Nate and Olivia finding that new spark is that it’s the last ten years of history that make them so much more even now. It’s a perfect little story, and will only make us greedy to revisit all of our beloved On Dublin Street couples, one at a time, forever and ever.

Crazy Sexy Love by K.L. Grayson…Release Day Event & Review

.
Title: Crazy Sexy Love
A Dirty Dicks Novel
Author: K.L. Grayson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 21, 2018
 .
Blurb
.

Three-time world champion bull rider Rhett Allen has never been afraid to get his hands dirty. Hard work, sweat, and determination have gotten him where he is today—and that’s holed up in a hospital room, wondering how he let that damn bull buck him off. He’s also wondering why he thought it was a good idea to let his twin brother talk him into returning home to heal.

Rhett has a million reasons to come home to Heaven, Texas, and only one reason to stay away. That reason comes in the form of a sweet and feisty girl who stole his heart long before he ever thought to give it away. The only problem…that girl has turned into a stunning woman.

Monroe Gallagher is downright sexy with more curves than he has notches in his bed post. It’s been six years since he’s seen her, six years since he’s felt any form of peace, and six years since she gripped his heart in her delicate little hands and squeezed the life out of it. The longer he’s in Heaven, the more he starts to realize that the heart she took from him—the one she crushed into a million pieces—she also never gave back.

My Review:

I absolutely adore any and every thing K.L. Grayson writes and I was so looking forward to this release from just the cover and blurb alone. And yep, she’s done it again.  I LOVED this book!

Ok, so I’m already a sucker for a second chance romance and when K.L. Grayson is writing that second chance romance you can bet that you’re going to feel every bit of emotion from her fantastic characters.  And boy, did I ever with this book…

Super delicious pro-bull riding champ Rhett begrudgingly heads home after a bull riding injury and he knows what’s in store when he returns….Mo.  The girl who stole his heart all those years ago.

Mo has had her own set of circumstances that has shaped who she is today and she’s also never forgotten that cowboy from her past.

What happens now, when a little fate and forced proximity comes into play, makes pure magic.  Oh man how I loved these two together.  Mo is a strong, selfless gal and I loved reading her.  Her life hasn’t been a cake-walk and her story broke my heart but I knew Ms. Grayson would give her the happily ever after she deserved 😉 Rhett is the whole freaking package.  He’s sexy, sweet, and has a  soft side that had me swooning.  OMG and that southern drawl?  Call me a goner for that man! Their journey isn’t an easy one and they definitely handle some bumps along the road as they reconcile past hurt feelings and broken hearts but when they come out on the other side of things, it’s sublime.  Have I mentioned I loved these two characters!?

If you’re looking for a total page-binging read, this is a book you must get on your list.  Thank you, Ms Grayson for yet another stellar read! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next.

Excerpt

“Make love to me.”
“Plannin’ on it.” Pushing up from the bed, I kick off my shoes and slip her sandals from her feet. Her eyes follow my every move.
Careful not to lift my left arm too high, I reach behind my head and pull my shirt off. When I reach for my sweats, she sucks in a sharp breath, her eyes glued to my cock as I let my pants fall to the floor.
“Your turn.” I crawl onto the bed, her eyes searing through me. When I undo the button of her shorts, she lifts her hips, allowing me to pull them off, along with her white cotton panties. Sitting up, she reaches for the bottom of her shirt, lifts it over her head, and flings it off to the side.
“You are so beautiful, Mo.”
The last time I looked down at her like this, sprawled out in front of me, I was too young to appreciate her—too young to understand the depth of what she was giving me. But that’s no longer the case. I’ve dreamed of her many times over the last six years, but my fantasies didn’t do her justice. Nothing compares to having her in my bed—hair fanned out, chest heaving, creamy skin begging for my mouth. I have to reach out to touch her to make sure she’s real.
I slide my fingers over her abdomen. The muscles contract beneath my touch.
She looks down, but I shake my head. “No, sweetheart, keep your eyes on me. You have nothing to be embarrassed about. I’ve seen every inch of you, remember?”
Her cheeks turn the prettiest shade of pink. “It’s been a long time. My body has changed.”
“Hasn’t been that long, and trust me, your body is perfect.”
With a flick of the front clasp, her bra opens, her beautiful breasts spilling out. She shrugs out of it, and I lower my body to hers, scarcely able to believe this is happening.

Summary:

I thought I knew him. He thought he knew me. We were both wrong…

Dr. Corinne Cabot is living the American dream. She’s a successful ER physician in Chicago who’s married to a handsome husband. Together they live in a charming house in the suburbs. But appearances can be deceiving—and what no one can see is Corinne’s dark past. Troubling gaps in her memory mean she recalls little about a haunting event in her life years ago that changed everything.

She remembers only being in the house the night two people were found murdered. Her father was there, too. Now her father is in prison; she hasn’t been in contact in years. Repressing that terrifying memory has caused Corinne moments of paranoia and panic. Sometimes she thinks she sees things that aren’t there, hears words that haven’t been spoken. Or have they? She fears she may be losing her mind, unable to determine what’s real and what’s not.

So when she senses her husband’s growing distance, she thinks she’s imagining things. She writes her suspicions off to fatigue, overwork, anything to explain what she can’t accept—that her life really isn’t what it seems.

When I heard that Courtney Cole was writing a psychological thriller, I was all in. The I read the blurb, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one.

Such Dark Things is a twisted thriller with a bit of romance added in. There are some situations that appear in this book that those who read Courtney Cole’s other books may not be able to handle in this book. It’s why she chose to publish this under a pen name. So please keep that in mind if you decide to read this.

This book hooked me from the start. It’s told from two POVs – Jude and Corrine’s. They are a married couple; he’s a psychologist and she’s an ER doctor. And it’s from the both the past and present with the past leading up to the present.

Seventeen years ago on Halloween, Corrine witnessed her father kill two people but she remembers nothing about that night except standing next to the two dead bodies. Her father is serving time in prison for the murders and she’s been fighting demons from that night ever since.

Corrine is very dedicated to her job and spends alot of her time there. It also helps her from focusing on her nightmares that comes around this time of year. As Corrine is struggling to get a hold of her nightmares, she feels her husband is pulling away from her. Jude knows that Halloween is a very difficult time of the year for Corrine so he always gives her extra space to work through it. But he finds himself seeking out the attention of a younger woman. She gives him the attention that he’s missing from Corrine. And once he makes that first mistake, she makes it impossible for him to stop.

Courtney throws a lot of twists and turns into this story. I really enjoyed watching how everything played out. Every single character is unique and plays a significant role. Jude’s brother Michel, Corrine’s sister Jackie and best friend Lucy are all intricate in Jude and Corrine’s life.

Such Dark Things was riveting and captivating. While I did figure out a thing or two, I was still surprised by a few shocks that Courtney threw in and had my jaw dropping. I am really hoping that Courtney continues to write in this genre because she wrote one hell of an spellbinding read.

Excerpt

Prologue-
My skin is sticky with blood.
My waistband is wet with it, and I can taste it on my lips. It’s splattered on my face, and it tastes like metal that has been rotting in the sun and rain for a hundred years. The night makes me shiver, the cool breeze rustling my hair, and for a split second, I’m back there in that house, standing in that blood. My bare toes feel the warmth of the liquid turn cool as the minutes tick past.
Goose bumps raise on my neck, and a knot that I can’t swallow is lodged in my throat. My feet are frozen frozen frozen on the ground, and I can’t move.
Their eyes are open and lifeless, although they stare at me.
They see me.
Yet they see nothing.
I can’t breathe.
My lips are ice, just like theirs.
My heart is pounding and racing and stuttering, and I can’t breathe I can’t breathe I can’t breathe.
“Corinne. You’re safe here. Corinne.”
And just like that, I’m not there.
I’m here.
“There was blood all over me.” My words are stilted and fragile, like glass.
I stare at my hand, and even though it’s clean now, I see it as it was seventeen years ago, covered in the blood of two souls…souls that were living and that aren’t anymore. It’s hard to wrap my mind around. First they were breathing, and then they weren’t. It happened in a split second. I inhale shakily.
“Think about that moment,” the doctor instructs. “Who can you see?”
I think on that. “Melanie is next to me on the floor. Her head is bleeding into a pool. There is so much blood that it looks black.” I close my eyes, because it had been the first time I’d seen blood like that, and it terrified me. “Joe is on the bed. His blood is splattered all over the wall. Both of them have their eyes open.”
Staring at me.
The emotions welling up in me are like a wave, swelling, swelling, swelling…until I can’t handle it anymore. The horror and the guilt and the pain are just too much.
“I can’t do this,” I blurt out. “I’m done for the day.”
Dr. Phillips looks at me, and he’s calm and detached.
“Corinne, why are you here?”
I pause. What a stupid question. “You know why I’m here.”
I hate it when they treat me with such condescension.
“Humor me,” he tells me. “Why are you here?”
I grit my teeth and look away.
He waits.
“You’re saying that I tried to hurt myself. But I wouldn’t do that.”
I look at him now, and he’s so fucking emotionless. I look down at my left wrist, at the bandage covering up the stiches.
“I wouldn’t,” I insist again. “I’m a fucking physician. I wouldn’t have cut my wrist horizontally. If I really wanted to hurt myself, I would’ve known to cut vertically along the vein.”
I finger the gauze. Beneath it, the cut throbs, evidence of something I don’t remember doing.
“I’m not crazy,” I add. And I don’t know if I’m trying to convince Dr. Phillips, or myself.
“You’re not crazy.” He nods. “But you’ve experienced a mental break. You’re here because you need to deal with the causal underlying issue so that it won’t happen again. Right?”
He’s a fucking asshole.
I stare at the wall. At the whiteness, at the sterility.
“You need some plants in here,” I tell him, avoiding the question. “Greenery puts patients at ease. All this blankness…it’s maddening.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” he says wryly. “Corinne…”
I interrupt. “Dr. Cabot,” I tell him. “I’ve earned it.”
“Dr. Cabot,” he corrects himself. “You’re right. You’ve earned it. You worked a long time to finish medical school and your residency. You’re a top ER physician. You have a life envied by everyone around you. You’ve got to take care of yourself, so you can protect this life you’ve built.”
I close my eyes. Behind my eyelids, it’s dark and safe. It’s black and warm.
“Protect it from what?” I whisper.
“You tell me,” he answers. “You’ve got something inside of you that is triggered now, something that creates panic and a fight-or-flight response. We know what your father did so long ago. What we don’t know is why…or what damage it has caused in you, damage that seems to be affecting you now.”
“I don’t know either,” I say helplessly, my eyes opening to the white walls again. “I can’t remember. I never could. You know that.”
“I know.” Dr. Phillips nods again, and he tries to be so fucking comforting. “You have a history of dissociative behavior. You blocked out what your father did so long ago, and it stands to reason that your brain has developed that as a defense mechanism. It’s doing it again now. If we don’t get to the bottom of why your memories are being triggered now, after all of these years…you’ll never have peace. Do we agree on that?”
Reluctantly, I nod.
“So we have to start at the beginning. You have to stay here and focus.”
Anger flares in me, red and hot, and I stare him down. He doesn’t blink and neither do I.
“Focus?” I ask him, and my words are sharp and I wish they would cut him. “You think it’s as simple as sitting down and focusing? How dare you sit there and tell me what to do, when you have no idea what it’s like?”
I stand up to leave, but the psychiatrist’s next sentence holds me in my place, freezing me.
“Corinne, you promised Jude you’d try.”
Jude.
My beautiful, understanding Jude.
I swallow hard. I did promise. And I have to follow through, even though the pain it causes me is immeasurable. I owe it to him. I’ll do it for him. Not for this psychiatrist, but for Jude.
My body folds back into the seat, and I finger the medical bracelet circling my right wrist. Corinne Elizabeth Cabot, Female. It’s me, condensed into one stark sentence, yet I’m a stranger to myself right now. That’s why I’m here. I don’t know myself or my thoughts. My memories are foreign, blocked, nightmarish, out of control.
“Fine.” There’s nothing else I can say.
Dr. Phillips is quietly triumphant. “Let’s begin again. Take a deep breath and close your eyes.”
I do, drawing the cool air in a rush over my teeth, expanding my lungs and holding it, before I let it slowly exhale. I do it again, then again.
“Think back to that night, Dr. Cabot. Stand in that room. Tell me where your father is.”
I envision it, I see it in my mind like it was yesterday. My father in his bloody steel-toed boots. “He’s on the porch, waiting for the police to come.”
“He left you alone in the house with two dead bodies?”
“Yes.”
“He didn’t try to run?”
“No.”
“Okay. What did you do then?” my doctor asks me calmly, unfazed by the ugliness of my story.
“I was stunned. I think I was in shock. My hand was bleeding.”
Dr. Phillips looks at my hand, because I’m stroking the scar now, an unconscious nervous tic that I often do when I’m anxious. “What happened to your hand?”
“I don’t remember.”
“Is there a lot that you don’t remember from that night?”
“Yes. You know that.”
“Yes, I do,” he acknowledges. “So you’re standing in the middle of a bloody crime scene because your father left you alone. What did you do then, Corinne?”
“I looked out the window,” I tell him. “I was frozen. I couldn’t move. My feet felt like concrete and I was afraid if I moved, my heart would explode. So I took deep breaths. I watched the trick-or-treaters walking by. I looked at the blood on my shoe. I looked at the jack-o’-lanterns that were lit on porches, and the ghosts hanging in the trees. There was a full moon. There was light on my shoulders.”
“Anything else?”
“I stared at the street sign on the corner. All Hallows Lane.”
“That’s ironic,” the doctor points out needlessly.
“Yes.”
“How long did you stand there?” His question is quiet.
“Until they came and took me away.”

Ride Dirty is part of author Laura Kaye’s Raven Riders series and is the fourth novella in the 2018 1,001 Dark Nights line-up.  For many years now I have looked forward to anything Laura Kaye puts out and this was no exception.  I couldn’t wait for Caine and Emma’s story and, oh my, it was just as amazing as I knew it would be.

Here’s the thing about Laura Kaye and broken heroes…holy hell can she write them!  Caine is such the perfect example of that.  He’s had a horrible past. Truly heartbreaking and it had my chest physically aching as I was reading him and just how far he’s come and how he’s still trying to overcome things today.  I just loved him and wanted nothing more for him to have his happy ending.  Enter Emma…

If ever there was a gal perfect for Caine, it was Emma.  She’s the sunshine in his darkness and I loved them together. The connection they share is emotional and intense and it’s deliciously steamy and BEYOND sexy.  These two burned up the pages and I was so sad to have read them as fast as I did!  It’s stories like these that make me hate reading as fast as I do!

And now this is where I go into how sad I am to see this series come to an end.  I have loved these guys and gals from the very beginning and while I will miss them, I know Ms. Kaye has other amazing stories in store for us!

Whether you’re already a fan of Ms. Kaye or this is your first taste, I know you will love Ride Dirty as much as I did!

Five Loves
