JE SUIS A TOI

“Life taught me an eternal love will demand the worst sacrifices. A transcendent
love will split your soul, cleaving you into pieces. A love this strong doesn’t grant
you sweetness—it grants you pain. And in that pain is the greatest pleasure of all.”

Q made me the happiest esclave in the world. He gave me his heart, his empire, his
ruthless unforgiving love. And life finally left us in peace.
A man like my maître has special needs though, growing stronger as our lives
intertwine. The only way to survive his monster is to agree to all his desires.
Including his latest wish.
I’m his.
And I won’t refuse.

je suis a toi teaser 4

Excerpt

“Don’t struggle. You know I’ll keep you safe.” Q’s murmur danced down my
back.
My panic receded as trust billowed fast and true.
Q was born into darkness, but he’d never baptized me in his blackest desires.
And because of that, I could implicitly say he spoke the truth. No matter what he
did to me, he would never truly harm me.
Q paused, his tattooed chest soaking. His feathered sparrows fluffing off
droplets almost alive on his skin. “I told you once never to fall for me. That I didn’t
want the curse of breaking your heart while I broke so many other pieces of you.”
His hands landed on my breasts, cupping them reverently. “Yet you fought me, just
like you said you would. You fell for me, just like you promised me you would.
And now, you’re willing to give me what I need even after I tricked you and lied.”
I swayed as I fell even deeper for this complex husband of mine. Q was all my
fantasies in one glorious lifetime. The fact he finally wanted to share me with his
child spoke volumes about his capacity to love.
“I’m so glad you ignored me, esclave.” His fingertips branded my nipples with
pain. “So fucking happy you married me.” Pushing me backward, he smiled
harshly as my spine met the pool wall. His chest strained as he sucked in a heavy
breath. “You’re so fucking beautiful.”
My heart hammered in my ears as he kissed me.
His tongue laced with mine, and I sank into the sweet embrace, knowing it
would be the last I received tonight. The air crackled with an impending storm. Q’s
control frayed every second, his eyes drenching in determination and the salacious
need to hurt.
Breaking the kiss, he opened his hand, revealing the other item he’d retrieved.
A tiny pair of silver scissors.

empire smash cover art

I have lost everything.

My purpose

My love

My soul

Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle — the promise I made her brings me back.

So I breathe.

I live.

I hate.

And I allow the anger to oil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade. I am broken, I don’t want to be fixed.

But the Empire is crumbling and it’s my job to fix it.

My job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.

A trip to New York, only one chance to redeem a lost part of our mafia family.

The only issue is, the only way to fix it, is to do something I swore I’d never do again.

An arranged marriage.

Only this time.

I won’t fall.

Or so help me God, I will kill her myself.

My name is Sergio Abandonoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate?

You have no idea.

I am the mafia.

I am the darkness.

Blood in. No out.

EXCERPT

Sergio looked ready to strangle me. “No. I don’t believe I asked for an annoying little sister, but if that’s what you’re offering, please don’t let me stop you. Just know, I won’t hesitate to put you over my knee if you get out of hand.”

The minute the words left his mouth. I froze.

He froze.

The taxi driver stared little laser like holes into the rearview mirror.

And Sergio leaned toward me.

I swallowed as tension swirled around us.

He gripped me by the chin and turned my head to the side, his lips brushing my ear. “It’s like you have a death wish.”

“You wouldn’t do it.”

He pulled back as both of his eyebrows shot up, and then he looked down, like he had spotted something.

I followed the direction of his gaze and let out a little gasp as a gun dug into my stomach.

“It’s been directed at you for the last four minutes,” Sergio said through a practiced smile. “I meant what I said. Listen well. I keep my word. Kiss me, and blood will be spilled.”

“Y-you’re a crazy person!” I hissed, shoving at his chest. “And I wasn’t going to kiss you!”

“Sure you weren’t.” He put the gun away. “Good talk though, right? Oh look, the movie theater.”

To say that I scrambled out of the car like a kid running away from her kidnapper would be a gross understatement, but the minute my feet hit the pavement, I paused.

My body told me to run.

The guy had pulled a gun.

On me.

I didn’t even watch violent movies.

Twenty-Four hours before were were to be married–I offered to shoot her.

Ten hours before our wedding–I made a mockery of her dying wish.

Five hours before we were going to say our vows–I promised I’d never love her.

One hour before I said I do–I vowed I’d never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife–I knew.

I’d only use my gun to protect her.

I’d give my life for hers.

I’d cry.

And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl–a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.

I always believed the mafia would be my end game–where I’d lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.

Or the beginning of something beautiful.

The beginning of her.

The end of us.

EXCERPT ONE

Crossing behind the couch toward the kitchen, I find myself remembering those naked, intimate moments with Kayden only a short time ago. The passion. The trust I’d felt for him. And then his words: “We both want more. Until we don’t.” The words send a surge of adrenaline and nerves through my body.

The scent of freshly brewed coffee teases my nostrils as I reach the kitchen, where I immediately find Kayden standing behind the island. But it’s not him that makes my heart lurch, as usual. It’s my gun that’s lying on the counter between us.

And when I should perhaps step backward I find myself charging forward to claim the other side of the counter.

“What is that for?”

“You thought you needed it earlier,” he says. “I want you to have it now.”

My fingers curl on the tiled counter. “Do I need it?”

“That’s for you to decide.”

“That isn’t the answer I want.”

His jaw sets hard. “If you’re expecting an answer you’ll want, you’d better pick up that gun.”

We stare at each other, a push and pull between us that has nothing to do with fear or intimidation, and everything to do with a bond we both know is being tested. “I know what you’re doing.”

“What am I doing?”

“The same thing you did outside that church, when you helped me hold the gun to your chest.”

“Which is what?”

“Offering me the façade of control.”

“You holding a loaded gun on me in no way equals a façade.”

“I know you now,” I counter. “You don’t give up control, even when you say you are.”

He rests his hands on the counter, one turned just enough for me to catch a glimpse of the hawk inked on his wrist, its wings spread, the mark of a man whose rules of many must dictate his actions. “There are two sides to this coin,” he says, his words drawing my attention, his pale blue eyes piercing mine. “The me with you, and the me with everyone else.”

“We barely knew each other at the church.”

“I’d already decided you were mine. You just didn’t know it yet.”

EXCERPT TWO

“You are all kinds of tattooed hotness, Kayden Wilkens. Hawk.”

His lips curve. “Is that you talking or the wine?”

“It’s called liquid courage.”

“You’re adorably drunk.”

I stroke his cheek, which feels much better than mine. “But you’re here, and you are The Hawk and I know I’m safe.”

“You are safe with me, Ella.”

“I am, but you’re dangerous to everyone else.”

His expression sobers. “Is that what you think of me?”

“Don’t go getting serious on a drunk person. I didn’t mean that negatively—you’re everyone’s protector.” I grab his T-shirt. “I meant that the bad guys are in trouble when they piss you off. And I meant it like you’re a badass, thus the ‘you’re sexy’ comment. Wait. Did I say that or think that? I’m saying it now. You’re sexy.”

He flattens his hand at the small of my back. “Badass?”

“Badass.”

“Do you know how badly I want to be inside you right now? Right here?” His hands go to my sides, traveling to my breasts, his thumbs stroking my nipples to hard peaks.

I grab his hands as my cheeks flush. “Too bad I wore jeans. You’ll have to behave.”

“Will I?” he asks, flicking my nipple.

I grab his wrists, firming my voice. “Stop, because yes, you do. I am not getting undressed in public.”

He reaches down and fingers the easily undone laces that line the front of my jeans. “I’ll settle for you having an orgasm until we get home.”

I reach for his hand. “I can’t have an orgasm in public, either,” I say, but my body betrays me, my sex clenched and wet.

“That sounds like a challenge—and this is barely public.” He pulls several of my laces loose. “I told Niccolo I couldn’t command you to orgasm. I want to try.”

“You can,” I assure him. “You can pretty much just look at me and I’m wet.”

“Are you telling me you’re wet now?”

“Very—so take me home and do something about it.”

His hand goes to my jaw and he drags my gaze to his.

“I never thought I’d use the word home again—let alone have a woman I want to use it with. I love you, Ella.”

“I love you too—” He slips his fingers beneath the laces and suddenly they’re intimately pressed to my sex. “That was unfair!”

“You’re not wearing panties,” he observes, slipping a finger inside me.

“Kayden—”

“And you are very, very wet.” His head lowers, lips at my ear. “I would kill to feel you around me right now.”

I pant, and my sex clenches around his fingers. “You’re about to embarrass me.”

“No one can see us.”

“That’s not what I mean. I mean—” He thumbs my clit and presses another finger inside me. “I’m going to come really fast.” He kisses me, a deep slide of his tongue, and oh . . . oh . . .

Synopsis

Love the music—never the man.

At twenty years-old, Sabrina Caroline was America’s sweetheart pop star, until she took a year off to treat her social phobia that her cut-throat-manager/mom paid top dollar to keep quiet. Now as part of her comeback, she’s forced into collaboration with one of the hottest rock bands topping the charts—Birds of Prey—whose lead guitarist happens to be her biggest mistake…and her biggest regret.

Hawke Owens never imagined Birds of Prey would surpass the basement of the Duncan High School for Performing Arts, let alone score them a European tour. But success has its price, and for him, it’s being forced to work with the only girl who shattered his heart—Sabrina Caroline. She’s everything that he remembers and more, every memory and fantasy come to life. At first touch, their connection is electric, but it’s also as strong as her determination to follow her number one rule—she doesn’t date rock stars…even though she’s become one.

Loving her again is as natural as holding his guitar, but she’s destroyed him once, and this time the stakes are higher, more public, and the consequences life-altering.

Against the backdrop of the birth of MTV, they’ll have to choose between the demands of their label, and the demands of the heart.

review

Novellas and short stories are normally tough reads for me because I find it hard to really get into a story when it’s only so many pages long.  Well, Rebecca has proven to me once again that any amazing writer can deliver a story in any form.

“He was the door I’d shut to save myself.”

Against All Odds is one hell of sweet and rocking love story.  Brie and Hawke were best friends turned pop and rock stars after one unexpected moment in their lives.  It changes their lives completely – for better and worse.  In the world of celebrities, can two hugely pop stars truly stay together?

I loved how Rebecca wrote this story.  She quickly pulls you into the guts of the story and lays it out all there.  You immediately feel the tug of war that Brie and Hawke feel; the trepidation on both their parts.  Rebecca kept this at a great pace while still delivering all the angst and feels needed to make draw you in and keep you there.

“Love the music  Never the man.  But the man was my music, and with one gone, the other suddenly felt meaningless.”

A quick yet extremely entertaining read.  Highly recommend it!!

Excerpt

He took my face in his hands and leaned in until he was all I could see, all I could feel, and smell. How easily he consumed me with a simple touch. “There have been too many women. Too many meaningless encounters. Too many faces. But there’s only been one name in my mouth, and it’s always been yours. Only yours.”

His mouth met mine without preamble, and before I could protest, I was lost to the feel of his lips on mine.

It was so familiar, yet new. When his tongue stroked the seam of my lips, I opened for him, and reveled in his groan as he sank into the kiss. I found the support beam against my back as he pressed against me, our bodies aligning with the fit I’d always remembered as perfect.

It was still just as exquisite.

His hand stroked down the side of my body, a path of fire igniting in his wake until he gripped one of my hips, pulling me even closer to him. With the other, he tilted my head for a deeper assault, exploring the recesses of my mouth, lingering like he didn’t already know every part of me.

It was the best second first kiss in the history of kisses.

I arched, pushing my breasts against his chest, and looped my arms around his neck. Then I kissed him back with every ounce of passion I’d missed these last three years. I kissed him the way I’d fantasized about since I walked out, with tiny nips and fuller, lingering caresses. When that wasn’t enough, I sucked his tongue back into my mouth and reveled in his groan of surrender.
He still wanted me, and that knowledge was more intoxicating than any alcohol, more high-inducing than any drug.
His hand shifted, running under my dress until he met bare skin where my garters attached to my stockings. “Holy shit, Brie. You’re going to be the death of me.”
He squeezed my bare thigh, and I lifted my leg, semi-wrapping it around his hip.
I’d almost forgotten how powerful it was to kiss Hawke, how it consumed every sense, every thought, until I was just a jumble of feelings and need. It was never just a kiss, it was a full-body experience that blocked out the rest of the world.
A moan escaped my lips as his set to my neck, and my head rolled back against the beam. He hit the spot right above my collarbone and I whimpered.
“I love that sound,” he murmured, then gently sucked that patch of skin so he could hear it again.
“Hey guys—whoa!” Chad’s voice penetrated my haze of desire.
“Go the fuck away,” Hawke said, moving so I was covered from Chad’s gaze. “Yeah, well, I would—I mean, good for you guys, and it’s about damn time—but
Oscar Oswald is here and he’s asking for us.”
I pushed gently against Hawke’s chest. If Oscar Oswald was here, it could mean huge things for their career. He was the biggest name going in rock. “You need to see what he wants.”

Excerpt

Once upon a time, he’d been my everything.

He was standing in the corner talking to one of her great aunts, holding an empty glass that my brother had kept filled with whiskey all afternoon. I wanted to help—to do something, anything, to take that dark, stormy look out of his eyes—so I asked him if he wanted to get some air.

He took my proffered hand without a word, but instead of leading me outside like I expected—maybe to the front porch for a breath of the cool February air—he towed me upstairs. And straight into the bathroom. Without a word, he pulled my black cashmere sweater off over my head.

I stood there shocked for a few seconds. This was Shaw—my former best friend and secret lifelong crush. The man who once held my heart in the palm of his hand when I was young and foolish. And he had just been through the most traumatic event of his twenty-six years—losing his wife to a drunk driver. Yet here he was, singularly focused on getting me naked, and seemingly as quickly as possible.

I remember the lights.
I remember I wanted to photograph them, the way the red and blue splashed across his cold, emotionless face. But I knew even if my feet could move from the place where they had cemented themselves to the ground and I could run for my camera, I wouldn’t be able to capture that moment.
I had trusted him, I had loved him, and even though my body had changed that summer, he’d made sure to help me hold onto who I was inside, regardless of how the exterior altered.
But then everything changed.
He stole my innocence. He scarred my heart. He took everything I thought I knew about my life and fast-pitched it out the window, shattering the glass that held my world together in the process.
I remember the lights.
The passionate, desperate, hot strikes of red. The harsh, cruel, icy bolts of blue.
They symbolized everything I endured that summer.
And everything I would never face again.
Rhodes ran a hand through his still-damp hair as he watched me look around. “You want something to drink?”
My eyes found his but dropped a little to note the way his shirt was still sticking to his abdomen. “Just water is fine.”
He nodded, stepping into the kitchen long enough to grab a glass and fill it with ice and water from the fridge. Setting it down on the counter in front of me, he lifted a thumb and pointed to the room down the hall behind him. “I just need to shower real quick. You can too, if you want.”
I swallowed hard, my eyes practically bulging from my head. And for the first time — Rhodes laughed.
Well, he chuckled.
“I meant when I’m done, Natalie.”
“I know,” I said quickly. I totally didn’t know. “I will. When you’re done. I have extra clothes.” Why did I say that?
He quirked a brow. “Guess I won’t be seeing you naked tonight, then.” I thought he was joking, but couldn’t be sure because he left it at that without so much as another smile before turning and disappearing down the hall.
I quickly guzzled down the glass of water he’d given me and refilled it. I needed to cool down. Way down.

Excerpt

ARE YOU READY TO RAGE?

“What you don’t seem to understand is all that matters right now is standing right fucking here,” Nolan said, his voice thick and deep. His eyes were the darkest I’d ever seen them, glimmering with wicked intent. One side of his full lips curled upward in a devilish smirk. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. I was consumed by him. Or at least, from the way he continued to fuck me with his eyes, I knew I was about to be.

Nolan took a step forward and I took two back. Our little dance made him chuckle, the sound coming from deep within his throat. With just that little laugh my insides clenched so hard I gasped. Nolan’s smirk grew into a knowing smile. His eyes darted to the space between my legs where my shorts had ridden up, exposing every inch of my shaking thighs.

He licked his bottom lip, tracing it with the tip of his tongue. My inner battle raged on between wanting to run away from him, and wanting to run straight into him. Although, it wasn’t like it mattered which option won out in the end. The pier was narrow, and Nolan was blocking my only way out.

He reached down and unbuckled his belt, sliding it out through the loops. Folding it in half, he snapped the leather together. The sound an echoing crack through the damp night air.

Our dance continued as he took another step toward me and I again retreated. “Since you don’t seem to feel the same way, let me tell you what’s going to happen right now,” Nolan started.

“I’m going to make you come on my fingers.” Step. “On my tongue.” Step. “And around my cock.” His last step closed the space between us. My back hit the railing, trapping me between the end of the pier and his hard wall of a chest. My breathing became even more labored, my chest rising and falling in quick succession against his. Pressing against my stomach I could feel the heat of his hard cock through the worn fabric of his jeans. My nipples hardened as the ache in my core grew into need. “I’m going to fuck you. Hard. And I’m not going to stop fucking you until you realize that this shit between us is all that matters.”

That’s when I realized there would be no escaping this time.

From him.

From this.

From us.

Exclusive Excerpt from MISSED CONNECTIONS

“There they are.” Pete swoops in suddenly, offering a kiss on my cheek and a shoulder bump for Jack. “What’s with the music? I’ve heard more authentic dubstep in Great Aunt Ione’s car!”

I smack Pete’s arm. “Right? They chased me out of the room with Shaggy.” I focus only on Pete. I’ve got to ignore Jack. Off-limits Jack. I could throw a stick into any bar and hit three chicks he’s dated. And given the best orgasms of their lives.

Shut up, brain.

“How’d you find us?”

He grins at me. “I asked the girls downstairs. They knew exactly where Jack was.”

Why am I not surprised?

Pete grabs my arm. “We’ve got to get back in there. You’ve got to shake some serious ass to celebrate the new job, darling.”

I turn my back on him. “And I’ve got a serious ass to shake.” I give a shimmy for good measure, looking at the boys over my shoulder.

I swear Jack’s eyes turn black, but it’s hard to tell from peripheral vision. I risk a full-on glance. Yeah, he’s eye-fucking me hard, and my body reacts in all kinds of ways I have to trample down with unsexy thoughts.

“Jack!” A tall Indian woman strides up to us, leaning close to Jack like we’re not even here. “I need you. Now.”

Fortunately for me, Pete takes my hand and we head straight downstairs to the dance floor, leaving Jack on the patio with whoever this woman is.

Either the music gets better, or the second drink relaxes me enough that I don’t notice how bad it is, but soon, I don’t care about the heat, or the crowded floor, or Jack and stupid Maxine and stupid… I don’t even know her name, but her hair was annoyingly shiny.

Pete and I shake and shimmy together before he sees someone else he knows and disappears, leaving me alone again. Jack has come back down at some point, but he stays at the bar and entertains his revolving door of admirers. Again, as usual. He buys one a drink, and they chat for a while before they part ways.

Another drink and more dancing later, I watch a seventh chick hit on Jack. For some reason—maybe I’ve had too much to drink, or maybe it’s just the heat of so many bodies packed together on a sweltering summer night—I want to slap the foundation off her face when she looks him up and down like he’s a slab of meat. When this chick leaves, I head to where he’s standing by the wall with his arms crossed.

“You buy a lot of girls drinks, don’t you?”

He bites his lip. “I wouldn’t say a lot.” His eyes stay focused somewhere across the bar, and I can just imagine some girl blushing and looking coyly away.

Yeah, he doesn’t have to shell out money to strike up a conversation with anyone. Not with his looks and personality. He’s funny and charming, someone you want to be around. I wonder how many of those girls realize that. “You don’t need to do that to get a girl to talk to you. Why do you bother?”

Why am I making an issue out of this? I eyeball my empty glass and set it on the bar. When I drink, I can get a little…aggressive.

Jack doesn’t seem to notice. Or maybe he’s just willing to ignore how I’m acting because he’s seen me at my worst. He runs his hand through his hair. “I guess it’s a classic way to break the ice, but I’d rather everyone was just upfront about things. ‘Hi, I like you. I think you’re hot. Want to come home with me?’ That sort of thing.” He shrugs, then laughs. “I wish people were more like you, I guess. I always figured you’d take the direct approach.”

He always figured? “What would happen if I came up to you and flirted? ‘Hi, I like you’ and all that?” The words are out of my mouth before I can let myself think better of it.

That’s got his attention. Suddenly, the air between us feels thick. Tense. Like we’re both holding our breaths. He licks his lips and I bite mine. His eyes narrow slightly. “Are you asking if I want to take you home?” he finally murmurs. His voice is deliciously husky.

I can’t meet his eyes now. He knows I want to…just as much as he knows I won’t. The truth lies heavily between us. Then a Wayne Wonder song comes on, providing the perfect distraction, and I flap a hand. “I love this song,” I say, pulling back, both grateful for and disappointed by the distance between us. Another moment and I could have sworn he was going to ask—

“I know. You’ve only made me play it every week since it came out.”

“It’s a classic.” I shake off the heaviness between us, determined to just let it be, and dance my way to the floor. I don’t know what to make of our conversation, but I feel cute and have a nice buzz and am out with my bestie and his sexy twin. A goofy smile twists my lips, and I look back at Jack as I shimmy my hips.

The expression on his face nearly stills my feet.

There’s hunger in his gaze.

I turn away and keep dancing, though less happily than before, more aware of every movement I make, knowing his eyes are on me. Breathless. Despite not wanting to take our relationship to the next level, I have to admit that I want his eyes on me. Seeing other women talk to him, look at him, annoys me more than it should. He’s not mine, but they don’t deserve him. So I make my movements a little sexier and imagine what it would be like if I was going home with him tonight, hating the reasons that can never happen.

I’m so wrapped up in a fantasy of tumbling into Jack’s arms that it seems inevitable when his arms wrap around me from behind. He tugs me close to the curve of his body, and his heat is incredible—too incredible for the rational part of me to win. I smile and dance with him, allowing myself a moment of perfect snatched happiness.

“Girl, you’re making everyone on the dance floor jealous with those moves.” Pete’s voice in my ear shatters the fantasy, and my eyes open, gaze flying straight to Jack—who is still standing where I left him by the wall, an unreadable expression on his face as he watches me dance with his twin.

I wish it had been you, Jack.

But it’s better for both of us that it wasn’t.

Heroine Hearts by Kirsty-Anne Still…..Blog Tour & Review

Title: Heroine Hearts
Author: Kirsty-Anne Still
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: March 28, 2016
HEROIN
hɛrəʊɪn
noun
-a highly addictive analgesic drug derived from morphine, often used illicitly as a narcotic producing euphoria.

HEROINE
hɛrəʊɪn
noun
-a woman admired for her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

He saw me as one.
I became addicted to the other.

He saw us as forever.
I saw our love story as bittersweet.

Why?

Simple.

It was all caused by one thing – total, abominable darkness.

But that was what we loved the most.

After all, darkness made these heroine hearts.

**This is a dark romance, due to the subject material within the book. Heroine Heart is advised for readers of a mature nature and not suitable for any readers under 18. Read at your own discretion. Use of tough subject matter includes rape, substance abuse, and violence.**
“What’s wrong?”
His head snaps up with my innocent question.
“Are you serious right about now?” he asks me, his eyes wide and boring into me. “You’re asking me what’s wrong…”
“Yeah,” I say, gulping back against my dry throat. “You can’t be angry about this.”
“I can’t?” he queries, his eyebrows shooting up, his eyes widening.
“I deserve this,” I say, reiterating the words to make them real.
“Come here,” he orders gently, ignoring my plea.
I do as I’m told, moving toward him slowly. It’s as I get close enough, he reaches inside, placing a hand around my left wrist. He pulls my arm out and through the bars, forcing it to become outstretched and on show. His fingers begin to trail across the points which Santiago forced those needles into my veins, getting his immediate response to me on drugs. They left angry pinpricks across my skin, showing exactly where the high started.
“It’s nothing,” I tell him once more, trying my hardest to get my hand back from him.
He scoffs on that response, not letting me go. “What have they been forcing you to take?” He asks, his fingers falling away from the track marks.
“Heroin,” I whisper, my eyes dropping in shame.
“And you want some more?” he asks me, his eyes coming up to meet mine.
I don’t speak, I just bite down on my lip.
Javier’s face darkens once more, but he’s yet to let me go.
“You do don’t you?”
“It’s all I can think about,” I admit, shamefulness filters into my system, positioned right next to the deep rooted craving. “Just something to make me feel better.”
“It won’t help,” he tells me, trying to make me face up to the facts.
“It will… for a moment,” I admonish foolishly. I yank my arm away from him, moving a little further away from the bars. “It’ll help,” I say it more to appease my own fragile mentality, not to force Javier to believe me. “It will, Javier, it’ll make this all better.”
And now he sees the girl who was presented to him on his first day. The girl with the slow burning addiction and the eager need for punishment in order to justice her every sin.
I took everything that was dealt my way as a way of chastisement. My boss and his son had no idea they were helping a criminal get her penalty for being just as bad as everyone else. Now Javier sees it. He’s slowly seeing what Eighteen is really made of.
review

Soooooo….another book that I am torn on.  While I enjoyed the whole concept and the plot of this book, the characters just fell flat for me.

Kirsty does a good job of keeping you interested in the story but I had a hard time of really grasping onto the characters.  I felt disconnected from them and that really hurt staying in tune with the book. I found myself many times walking away from the book and only continuing on because I wanted to see how the story ended – not really caring about the characters though.

Heroine Hearts is definitely and ugly and dark.  And that’s what made me love the plot – I love books that do not follow the norm or the happy go-lucky.  The cartel life is no peach and Kirsty does a great job of depicting the nastiness – no sunshine here.  There’s a lot of abuse and lots of drug use and all around fuckedupness.

I am sure that I will be in the minority where the book didn’t wow me and that was due to the disconnect with the characters.  Other than that, the concept and plot are great.

Will I read another book by Kirsty – definitely.  Not every book will be for every person.

When rescue shows up—six-feet-plus of hot, charming sex on a motorcycle—Rita’s pretty certain she’s gone from the frying pan right into the fire . . .

Jasper Ellis has a bad boy reputation in this town, and he loathes it. The moment he sees Rita, though, Jasper knows he’s about to be sorely tempted. There’s something real between them. Something raw. And Jasper has only a few days to show Rita that he isn’t just for tonight—he’s forever.

Excerpt:

“It’s just a quick ride.”

She sauntered toward him, thighs flexing in her jeans, and Jasper swallowed a growl. Something told him this ride would be anything but quick, but he shoved the thought aside and distracted himself by removing his helmet and transferring it to her head. And hell if he didn’t have a hard time mobilizing himself under her scrutiny. Like she wanted to see past whatever was visible. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been dissected by a woman—and it was welcome.

Damn, she smelled like the forest, cut with cooking spices. He tried not to be obvious about sucking in a good lungful. His reaction to this girl was goddamn strange, to say the least, but he had no choice but to go with it since she was about to mount his bike.

It had thrown her off a little, his gesture of passing over the helmet, but she recovered to grant him a speculative look. Mumbling under her breath, she threw a leg over his bike and gripped the back bar. “You might not recognize me, but I’m famous for what I can do with a knife.”

Jasper joined her on the bike in one smooth movement, groaning inwardly when her thighs gripped his waist. Had her breath caught? “I hate to disappoint you, but this isn’t the first time a woman’s threatened me with a knife.”

“Yeah, but it would be the last.”

His laughter was lost in the roar of the bike’s ignition, the Suburban growing smaller and smaller in his rearview mirror.

Tessa Bailey - headshotAbout Tessa Bailey:

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
