About FIRE IN YOU (Standalone Contemporary Romance Releasing November 28, 2016):

From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

EXCERPT:

Brock’s gaze flickered over my face and the line of his jaw softened. “It’s been a really long time since you and I have sat and talked to one another. I know you have every reason to hate me. I don’t blame you.”

“I don’t hate you.” That twisting motion in my chest picked up. What I had said was true. Maybe at one point I did. Okay. I’m sure I had, but I’d never been one to hate anyone. It just wasn’t in me. Well, I hated plenty of fictional characters, but some people would claim they didn’t count. I drew in a shallow breath and repeated, “I don’t hate you.”

Brock was still as he stared at me, a flicker of surprise and relief mingling across his chiseled features. “I’m…I’m glad to hear that.”

I pushed all that mess aside and focused. “Why are you even the GM? You’ve probably made enough money to live a very, very long time without having to worry about a paycheck.”

“I have. When I retired from professional fighting two years ago, I could’ve lived quite comfortably for the rest of my life.”

I wanted to ask why he’d retired so young. At his age, he still had a couple of more years left, but I resisted the urge. “So why take this job?”

A frown started to appear. “Do you really need to ask me that?” Before I could respond, he lifted a hand, thrusting his fingers through his hair as he said, “Your father saved my life. That’s not an exaggeration. You know that. If it hadn’t been for him, I would’ve died on those streets. The Academy became my life and it is a part of me. This company is important to me, and even if I’m not fighting, representing the Academy, I still need to be a part of it.”

Lowering my gaze, I squirmed in my chair. Of course I knew that. No matter what had happened, that would’ve never changed for him.

“I love scouting, looking for fresh talent,” he continued. “As the GM, I can still do that. I can give back to your father for everything he did for me. I need to do that. Especially considering how badly I let him down.”

“How in the world did you let my father down?” I asked, genuinely curious. “You’ve won championships for him. Brought so much attention to the—”

“That’s not what I’m talking about.” Tone serious, he held my gaze. “You never told him why you were at Mona’s that night.”

I stilled.

“If you had, he would’ve—”

My eyes snapped to his. “Brock.”

“And I would’ve deserved everything I had coming to me,” he continued, leaning forward. “And the only reason why I never told him you were there because of me was because you made me promise not to.”

Closing my eyes, I pressed my lips together. I had made him promise not to say a word. I’d begged him, because I knew what would happen if he’d been honest. Brock would’ve lost everything.

The knot was back, expanding in my throat. I couldn’t sit here and think and talk about these kinds of things if I was going to be able to make this job work. Curling my hands together, I opened my eyes. “What happened back then has nothing to do with now. It can’t.”

Brock leaned back and straightened.

“And I don’t want to talk about it,” I continued, struggling to keep my voice steady. “We don’t need to talk about any of that for us to work together.”

He was silent for a moment, his body deviously relaxed, but he was like a coiled cobra, and could strike at any moment. “I don’t agree with that, but I’ll let it go.”

Some of the tension seeped out of my shoulders even though I had a feeling there was an unspoken “for now” at the end of what he said. “That’s all, then? I would like to get my office set up and get to work.”

Brock nodded and pushed off the desk. Walking around it, he scanned the paperwork on his desk. “I do believe we have a meeting today with the sales team. Two o’clock.”

“Sounds good.” I rose on oddly shaky legs and turned to the door. Everything felt surreal.

“Jillian.”

Stopping, I faced him. “Yes?”

His shoulders rose with a deep breath as his gaze drifted over my face once more, and I wondered what he thought about how I looked now. “I really want this to work for us, Jillian,” he said, and I felt the very sharp twisting motion in my chest give one powerful stab. “It’s a second chance for us.”

What Might Kill Us by M.N. Forgy….Excerpt Reveal

what_might_kill_us_excerpt

Excerpt

Walking toward my room I notice my bike propped up on two blue milk crates. I stop in my tracks, my hands balling in my palms so hard my nails cut the skin.

Bull is hunched down, a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. No shirt on under his leather vest and grease all over him.

Music plays behind him as his dexterous hands make quick work at the guts of my Fixie. Panic races in my chest. He’s breaking her apart bolt by bolt!

What the fuck? Is he trying to destroy everything of mine?

“Oh I love that song.” I flinch, not noticing Jose standing behind me. “It’s Godsmack‘s Stay Away.” He informs.

“Jesus Christ, Jose, you can’t just sneak up on me like that!” I scorn, clutching my chest. “I could have just punched you in the throat, do you realize that?” He knows what goes on out here, I have to stay on my toes all the time.

“You going over there?” Jose ignores my rant, eyeing Bull over my shoulder. Biting my cheek I turn. My throat bobbing as I watch Bull toss bolts and shit over his shoulder.

My thighs clench on their own, defying the rage poisoning me. Sweat drips from his forehead, black grease streaked among his hard chest. I can’t help the hitch in my breathing.

“Can I have him?” Jose whispers. I blink away the sultry smog clouding my anger and stomp toward the sexy biker.

“Yeah, after I kill him!” I clip.

Bull stands and flicks his cigarette. His movements appearing in slow motion as smoke bellows from his lips. He turns, his back facing me and shrugs out of his cut, throwing it over on the patio. His muscular back inked with the same image that is on the vest.

I narrow my brows, trying to remind myself of the mission at hand.

Holding my hand out I hesitate on if I should touch him or turn around. I look over my shoulder and see Jose looking at me like I lost my mind.

Maybe I have.

Inhaling a large breath, I poke Bull in the shoulder as hard as I can.

His skin is slick with sweat and hot to the touch. The contact shooting warmth through my finger and through my body before igniting in my toes.

He looks over his shoulder, a hard look on his face.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I snarl.

He lifts his chin and smiles. Fucking smiles.

Blurb

Brotherhood is what Bull bleeds and all that he knows.

Being the king of The Devil’s Dust and surrounded by easy women was his everyday… until having his heart broke rooted him to the bottom of a whiskey bottle.

Heartbroken, and drowning in lost memories he’s unsure of the direction of his life, when the answer – consisting of a terrified Mexican girl- nearly knocks him off his feet.

Determined to get his act together and rectify his club, he rides to Texas for answers, only to be confronted with the emotional ghosts he isn’t ready to deal with.

He sees Anahi, and he wants her.

But she may come with more baggage than Bull is ready for.

Anahi used to be prim and proper. She used to wear dresses and keep up appearances to impress people she didn’t know. I guess you could say she was a fucking lady.

But that was when she lived in Mexico with her parents.

Before her uncle turned on her.

Before, the only man she ever loved, her step-brother, betrayed her.

Before she was forced to be a drug mule for the Cartel.

Evening gowns a lost memory, expensive heels traded for boots, and a nine millimeter in her hand instead of a limited edition purse. Anahi sets aside everything she’s ever known including the fairytale stories her mother told her about America.

She’s angry, determined, and looking for a way out.

The Gravedigger Series

by Liliana Hart

image1

Book One: The Darkest Corner

May 23, 2017

Synopsis:

The Gravediggers aren’t exactly what they seem. They’re the most elite of the world’s fighting forces—and all they have in common is that they’ve been betrayed by the countries they’ve died for. Because they are dead. To their country, their military, and their families.

Sometimes the dead do rise…

Deacon Tucker is a dead man walking. A former black ops agent, he was disavowed and stripped of all honor before being recruited as a Gravedigger. But his honor and good name no longer matter, because no one knows he’s alive, and he’ll never get the recognition he deserves. His mission is simple: save the world or die trying. And for God’s sake, don’t ever fall in love. That’s a rule punishable by death. The kind of death a man can’t be brought back from.

Tess Sherman is the only mortician in Last Stop, Texas. She has no idea howDeacon Tucker ended up in her funeral home, but she’ll eat her hat if he’s only a funeral home assistant. Deacon is dangerous, deadly, and gorgeous. And she knows her attraction to him can only end in heartache.

Deacon is on a mission to stop the most fatal terror attack the world has ever known—what’s known as The Day of Destiny—a terrorist’s dream. But when he discovers Tess has skills he can use to stop them, he has to decide if he can trust her with secrets worth dying for. And, most important, he has to decide if he can trust her with his heart.

Book Two: Gone To Dust

June 20, 2017

Synopsis:

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Liliana Hart returns to her suspenseful Gravediggers series featuring five dead men tasked with saving the world…and their latest member who risks it all for love.

Sometimes the dead do rise…

Miller Darling is one of the most popular romance novelists of her time. Not bad for a woman who doesn’t believe in romance. She’s as logical as they come, and she doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters. What she does believe in is family, so when her brother disappears, she doesn’t think twice about packing her bag and her laptop and heading out to find him.

Colin Moreau has an axe to grind. Of all the Gravediggers, he’s the most reluctant in his new role as dead man walking. He’s angry, and being stuck in the tiny town of Last Stop, Texas, might as well be purgatory. He misses his country and the life he had before he was betrayed. The only thing keeping him sane are the men who are like him—the Gravediggers—and the woman who makes his head spin. He’s never met anyone like Miller Darling. She’s not intimidated by his scowls, and damned if he doesn’t find that appealing.

When Miller sneaks out of town in the dead of night, her suitcase in tow, he has no choice but to follow. He’s made an oath to the Gravediggers. Only death can separate them. But he’s willing to risk it all to follow the one woman who drives him crazy halfway around the world. But when the ones who own his soul find out that he’s deserted them, there will be nowhere to hide.

Book Three: Say No More

Release TBA

Synopsis:

Sometimes the dead do rise…

Dante Malcolm is a man of refined tastes. He was once a part of Britain’s Elite Intelligence Force, but his double life eventually caught up with him. There was a reason he’d never been able to capture Simon Locke, a notorious thief who always seemed to be one step ahead. Dante was Simon, and eventually his extracurricular activities caused him his life, and he now belongs to The Gravediggers.

Eva Rothschild is a Detective Inspector with Interpol and the woman responsible for catching MI-6’s most notorious agent in his final heist—the heist that killed him. But something has never set right about his death, and it’s haunted her for months. It was too easy, and Dante Malcolm was too smart to go down that way.

Dante might belong to The Gravediggers, but his heart and soul will always belong to the next job—each one with a bigger payout and more dangerous than the last. The rest of the team doesn’t know about his alter ego because he made sure the information went missing from his file. So when the job he’s waited his whole life for seems like a possibility, he sneaks out of the country like a thief in the night, only to run into the only woman who’s ever been able to match him in brilliance—and passion—for the job. Only they’re standing on opposite sides of the law, and only one of them can walk away with the prize.

Love has never been the problem, for these two.

It just might not be enough, this time…

sul_teaser1

Carrot Cake and Ugly Lies.

Read all of Elijah and Gabriel’s story in
Sweet Ugly Lies.

I make a cake for a man who may never show up.
That’s the thing. The bitch of it all. I’m waiting. And he fucking knows it. And I can’t make myself stop.
I texted him earlier, and got the standard response.
We need to talk.
Which I then ignored because whatever the fuck else we are, talking isn’t something Elijah Beasley and I have ever done.
I see no reason to change that now.
The simple truth of it all–the one I sure as hell won’t admit to my baby brother sitting drunk and picking at the chocolate cupcake he’s holding, or Elijah or fuck, even Hazel–is that I miss him.
I miss Eli.
He’s cooled things off between us, has hidden behind his sister and his fucking badge and I should let him.
Fuck, I know I should let him. Getting involved with Eli had only ever been a bad idea.
Doesn’t mean I’ve ever considered walking away. Doesn’t mean I don’t want him. If anything, it makes the whole fucked up mess more tempting.
Aiden is humming morose questions into my shoulder and I kinda want to shove a cupcake in his face just to shut him up. There is a knock on the door and I sit up. I hadn’t heard that ridiculous Roadrunner that Eli sometimes borrowed from Archer.
Maybe it was Colt, come to further screw over my brother.
And that was just an infuriating thought.
It’s not though. Well. It is. But if Colt is standing there with wide worried eyes and a hopeful twist to his lips, so is Eli, his face blank and his big hands shoved into his pockets. Watching silently.
I hate him for his impassive stare. For the way he never seems affected by anything.
Well, except when I’m riding him and he’s cursing and pouring filth down my ear like a fucking porn star.
I don’t even look at him as Aiden takes Colt by the wrist and leads him away, and if my baby brother pulling a Marine around like a bad puppy isn’t amusing, nothing is or ever will be.
I turn without looking at him. “I need coffee.”
Eli huffs a little, trailing me into the house. His fingers find my hips when he comes up behind me in the kitchen.
He’s so fucking big. Six foot and some change, with shoulders so broad they make me itch to rake my fingers over them. To dig my nails in them while I fuck him and lick a path down between them.
I roll my hips, still in his hands, into his dick and he laughs. A strangled noise that tells me I’m getting to him.
“Didn’t come here for sex, Gabe,” he says, his voice breathy and low against my skin. I shudder and he groans, pushing into me.
“Whatdya want then?”
“I want you to talk to me, Gabe,” he murmurs and I freeze.
Talk.
About those two days and those ice cold bastards. About being held by the twins and Hanna.
All the things I wish I could tell him and I can’t. The words stick in my throat and I shake my head. I feel his huff of annoyance and I twist in his grip. “C’mon, Gigantor. Talking is overrated.” I smear a little frosting from his cake on my finger and lick it clean while he watched, his eyes going dark.
“You can’t avoid this forever, Gabe.”
It’s been almost three weeks since I fucked him. Since before I was kidnapped and Aiden arrived in my house and Eli started treating me like spun glass.
So fuck talking. I lick my finger clean and then grab him by the shaggy long hair that is just a little ridiculous and so fucking hot I can’t stand it.
Use it to drag him down until I can kiss him and lick the taste of sugar and spice and pecans into his mouth.
And it works.
Because whatever else we are. Whatever fucked up ugly lies are between us.
This is true. This is our center.
He groans into my mouth and hitches me up, until my ass hits the counter and the cake pushes across it, smearing frosting as he fucks into mouth with long wet strokes of his tongue.
Tomorrow.
Tomorrow we’ll talk. And I’ll lie to him. But tonight.
Tonight there is only this sweet truth.

A Note From N:
Gabe was never a planned character. He showed up in the first chapter of Dirty Sexy Secret, and made himself at home. He dug under my skin while I wrote Dirty Stolen Forever, this mischievous background character that was begging me to tell his story. I wasn’t going to. Remi was next. And I was so excited to share his story.
But.
Gabe was here first and patient. So here is. You can read a tiny bridge short story from Gabe’s POV now, and make sure to grab SWEET UGLY LIES on release day!

EXCERPT

I pull up in my driveway looking over at the house.  What I see pisses me off.
Here she is in a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, hat and glasses pushing a brand new lawn mower.
I make sure I check my temper before I walk over.  Right before I cross the street the little girl on the front porch stops
me mid step.
She looks like just like her mother, just a smaller version.  She is sitting on a plastic little table, that they probably just bought, coloring.
I make my way over to her right when the lawn mower goes off
“I told you I would cut the grass.”  I try
to sound casual, but the blood in me is boiling, it must be ninety-five degrees
outside
, and she’s wearing enough clothes for a trek across the frozen tundra.
She looks up “I also said I got it, and I would be doing it myself.” The little
girl from the porch makes it to her mother and hides behind her, yanking on her pant leg.

The fearful look that she gives me is just like her mother’s.  I crouch down, getting eye-to-eye with her and say “Hey there, beautiful. What’s your name?” She doesn’t reply, and instead she lowers her gaze so she is looking at her feet. “I’m Jackson,” I reach out my hand, but drop it when I know she won’t take it.  I gesture behind me, as I say “I live in that
house right over there.
  I used to know
your great grandma.”
  I’m trying to draw
her into a conversation with me, but nothing I say engages her.
“It’s ok baby, you can tell him your name.  Nan used to make him cookies, so you know what that means, she must have really liked him.”  She rubs her daughters shoulder.
“I’m Lilah,” she says in barely a whisper.
“That is the most beautiful name in the whole wide world.  You’re lucky to have such a beautiful name.”  She smiles at me, right as a car back fires. She yells and puts her hands to her ears.
Two things happen at the same time, her mother grabs her and runs toward the house, and I vow to protect them.
“Wait,” I rush after them and make it right to the door before it’s closed in my
face.
I stand there inside the house and
watch them rushing to the corner and hide.

Two broken girls protecting each other against some monster of the outside
world.
I walk up to them “It’s ok, it’s
just a car, it was nothing but a car.”
“Lilah, baby it’s ok, it’s ok.  I’m here.  It’s ok baby girl, were safe.” She is trying
to comfort the little girl who is sobbing quietly in her mother arms.
  “No one is here baby.”
She looks over at me, our eyes meeting for one minute before she lowers them again.
“Look it’s ok, it’s just Jackson.  There is no
one here, baby.”
  She rocks Lilah back
and forth. Her back against the wall while she soothes her baby girl whose sobs are slowly stopping, her eyes closing.
“What can I do?”  I’m now sitting in front of her not sure how to even start to dissect this.
“Nothing, you can’t do anything for us,” she kisses Lilah’s head. “No one can.”
I ignore that last part not sure how to talk about this now.
“I’m going to go outside and finish cutting the grass, then I’m going to go pick up some food for us.  Does she like pizza?”
“Jackson, I  don’t know what relationship you had with my grandmother, but I don’t need your help.  We will be fine.  Please, it’s ok, you can leave.” She rests
her head on the the wall closing her eyes, the defeat of the day leaving her
body.
“I’m going to go outside and finish mowing the lawn so Lilah doesn’t have to go outside anymore today.  Then I’m going to pick up pizza for myself.  You won’t have time to cook, so I’m going to pick one up for you.  I want to eat with you guys, but I’m not pushing myself on you either after today.  Now I don’t want to fight with you or even discuss this, so just nod that you understand?”
She looks into my eyes, but nods yes.
“I can pay you for the pizza?  I have money. I don’t need a hand out,” she says while trying to push herself up to go get
fucking money.

If she weren’t so scared of things I would punch the fuck out of something right
now.
“I don’t want your money, now or
ever.
I have no doubt you can take care
of yourself.
Consider this a housewarming present.” I get up going to the door not even giving her a chance
to say anything else.
“She’s never had pizza before, so can you just get us plain cheese.”
I don’t say anything afraid of what will come out of my mouth.  I nod and walk out the door, closing it quietly so as not to wake Lilah.
I close my eyes exhaling the breath that I didn’t even realize I was holding.
“She’s barely holding on while fighting for her life.  She has demons, they both do.  Whatever happened to them, it’s in there deep.  The both of them are so scared, you can practically see the fear coming off of them.”  I look over at Brenda who is on her porch watering her plants. “Tread lightly, Jackson, or better yet walk away if you aren’t going to do anything about it.”
I don’t have a chance to respond she walks into her house closing her front door softly, leaving me fighting my own demons.

What do I say?  What can I say?  HOLY SHIT!!  That was one hell of ride that I truly wasn’t sure how it was going to end.  And I didn’t want it to!!
Away from the Dark is the sequel to Into the Light and you MUST read that first in order to understand anything going on in this book.  And trust me – this is two book series you want to read immediately!!!
This book started where Into the Light ended and we get to find out what happens to Jacob, Sara and The Light.  Cause let me tell you, the cliff hanger you are left with after book one, has you immediately jumping into this book going “OMFG.  HOLY SHIT. I NEED TO KNOW!!”
Just like the first book, this book is told in multiple POV’s and keeps everything moving at a great pace.  There is no lull in suspense or mystery.  If anything, it just adds to your anxiety and digging for more and more clues.  I refuse to say anything else.
Except this:
“Sara loves Jacob.  And Jacob loves Sara.  Please never forget that.”

I love how Aleatha ends this.  Everything that had me wondering was connected but still left things open.  Part of me wants another book – the part of me that needs to know everything.  And another part of me that is completely happy with how things are now.  Either way, I love this series and felt Aleatha wrote one hell of suspenseful and entertaining book.

Sara

Shrill screams echoed throughout our dimly lit bedroom, accelerating my heartbeat and pulling me from the terrible nightmare. I waited for more, until the realization struck. The screams were my own.

“Jacob?” I called, my voice shaking with dread as I reached for my husband. Instead of reassurance, my fingers met cold empty sheets. He was gone—still away at another campus.

What just happened? Was it a dream?

I clung to the covers as I puffed my cheeks and slowly exhaled. While each breath helped to still the chaos, the exercise wasn’t enough.

Who am I? Who is he?

Jacob’s questions from months ago came back. They were my security. They’d worked before.

I am Sara Adams and my husband is Jacob Adams.

Pushing the images from my dream, or nightmare, away, I imagined Jacob’s comforting embrace. Slowly I threw back the down comforter and willed the cool air to soothe my perspiration-drenched skin. From the way my heart galloped in my chest, I might have been running a marathon, not sleeping.

In my sleep I’d been battling to escape a vehicle, and then an explosion of heat.
It had been a dream, I reassured myself—a nightmare. The accident I’d had, nearly nine months before, had been different. I couldn’t remember it, but I’d been told that I’d been injured and gone unconscious. In the nightmare I had been out and away from the wreckage.

I shook my head.

It seemed so real.

In my dream I hadn’t been able to see past the darkness, yet I’d known I wasn’t injured.
My arms surrounded my midsection as the memories replayed like pictures in my mind. Someone was hurting me—purposely harming me, and there was a voice—a deep voice.

Jacob’s voice?

No. He wouldn’t hurt me.

My entire body shuddered as goose bumps peppered my skin. Sitting upright, I reached for the bedside lamp. With trembling fingers I turned the knob and my eyes adjusted as the soft light combined with the sun’s perpetual summer glow.

I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate on Jacob’s questions.

Who am I? Who is he?

This time I said the words aloud, praying that if I spoke the truth, the images would disappear. “I am Sara Adams. He is my husband, Jacob Adams.” I pulled myself from the bed and walked to the bathroom. Turning on the light and the faucet, I cupped the cool water and splashed my face. As I reached for the cup and began to fill it, a metaphoric dam that had been constructed to hold back my past burst.

My mind was flooded—no longer with simple images, but with scene after scene.

For the first time since I could recall, I knew the woman in the mirror.

I knew me.

my-review

OK.  So I totally didn’t see that ending coming at all.  But let me back it up and start from the beginning.

Aleatha has written one hell of book and a great start to this 2 book series.  I took my time reading this book because I wanted to soak it all in.  But I also had to take my time because I would get seriously pissed off at things going on and some of the characters.  I had to walk away before I did some serious damage to my kindle or screamed at someone around me accidentally.

In the Light is told in several POV’s but Aleatha transitions between them all very smoothly and has you feeling for Sara, our heroine.  She’s awoken in a clinic and has no recollection or memory of how she got there or her time before then.  Not only is she healing from an accident, but her eyes are bandaged up and she’s forced to rely on her husband, Jacob for everything.

There are some many intricate layers to this story, I don’t even know what to tell you. And truthfully, I can’t say anything that won’t ruin this book because it’s that damn mysterious and suspenseful.  God I absolutely loved this book.  I loved everything about this book.

We also get insights from Jacob, Sara’s husband and Stella, who’s searching for her missing friend Mindy.  She’s amazing at her and she’s using everything within her power and resources to try and find Mindy and anything that ties to her disappearance.

Let me tell you – Aleatha does a phenomenal job of painting the world of The Light.  She’s so damn good, I absolutely despise The Light.  Hate it.  Loathe it.   We learn the way of The Light as Sara relearns her way through it.  Avoiding corrections from her husband and the Commission.  Learning to never question anything and always be appreciative of being chosen to be a part of the Assembly.  But will her memories ever return?  Will she ever remember her time before her accident?

The story ends in a cliffhanger that I was not expecting at all and has left me speechless.  I can’t wait to read the conclusion to this story.  I will devour that book in heartbeat!

Shillings Agency #6

One night with a stranger…

Security expert Mark Matthews has loved, and lost, and has no intention of ever loving again—especially not a woman who thrives on her life being in danger. Now, hot, meaningless sex with strangers he had no intention of ever seeing again? That’s a whole other story. And it’s all life as a single father allows him to enjoy. But when he meets a woman who refuses to tell him her real name, the game is on, because she’s everything he swore to stay away from. Daisy O’Rourke has bad idea written all over her, but he’s in too deep to walk away now…

Chapter One

He’s been dead for two years. Two long, lonely years.
At times, it was almost impossible to believe it had been that long since she lost him, and at others…it felt all too possible. She missed him more and more every day. If anything, the pain just deepened and split her open inside, like a huge, jagged chasm that would never go away no matter how much time passed.
“Next up on the Augusta Eye Witness News, tragedy on Sixth Street.” The newscaster on the television gave a half smile, her pink-lipstick-coated mouth parting to show perfectly white teeth. “Police were dispatched to a home on the fourteenth block of Greene Street today in response to a domestic disturbance. Authorities say a man held his wife at gunpoint, but the Maine State Police were able to end the standoff with no casualties. More to come on the eleven o’clock news tonight.”
Daisy tightened her grip on her empty martini glass, frowning down at the cast on her arm. “You see that? Look what we’re missing.”
A month ago, she’d been on a case similar to that one. The perp had been an abusive husband who’d been two bottles of cheap whiskey into a binge. When she’d tried to take him down, he evaded her on a fire escape, and when she tried to follow him, she’d slipped on the wet metal and her arm snapped like a twig. So now she was stuck on desk duty until it healed, while the asshole who’d thought beating his wife and then fleeing down a wet fire escape had been a good idea walked free…after his wife dropped charges.
It killed her that she wasn’t out on the streets, doing what she did best…saving lives. Without her job, without her passion, she was floundering in the middle of the ocean without even a hope of a rescue boat coming along to save her. It was who she was.
And now she was stuck with nothing.
Her phone buzzed, and she glanced down at the text.
It was her best friend, Lauren. Are you there yet?
Daisy rolled her eyes and picked up the phone. Yes, mother.
I can’t help it that I’m worried about you.
Relax. I’m at a hotel less than an hour away from you. It’s not like I ran away to live in a foreign jungle with Tarzan.
The reply was immediate. I wish you would run away with Tarzan. You need some action.
No, I need peace and quiet.
Three dots popped up, and then: Fine. Whatever. Enjoy it. I’ll be there late tomorrow morning. See you then?
I’ll be here.
Though she still wasn’t really sure why she was here in the first place. She knew the couple getting married tomorrow, sure, but not well enough to be invited to their wedding. The only reason she was on the list was because she was friends with Lauren, whose fiancé worked for the groom as a private security agent at The Shillings Agency, and that somehow gained her an invite.
Whatever.
She’d take it.
God knew she could use a break from her normal life…which was why she was at the hotel a day early. Living with a roommate who was also on the force was both a blessing and a curse. Lately, it had been more curse than blessing. It was just…she just felt so…
Empty.
The news music played, and Daisy glanced up again.
“Good evening,” the newscaster said. “Tonight, our head story is a tragic crash on Werner Street that ended in a horrifying death. A gray sedan was driving—”
That’s just what I needed tonight. Another reminder of what I’ve loved and lost. Thanks, Universe. I needed that.
Turning away, Daisy blinked rapidly and held her glass up to the bartender. She didn’t usually drink, with good reason, but tonight was an exception to that rule. And it was time for another one. And then maybe another. Her plan was to drink until it didn’t hurt anymore…as many as it took. Like father, like daughter, she supposed.
As the server made his way over, someone sat beside her. Daisy glanced over, already annoyed because she wasn’t here to flirt, or talk, or make friends. She was here to forget.
But then she locked gazes with the deepest, darkest, prettiest brown eyes she’d ever seen, and any irritation at the interruption of her emo mood was shattered. The man next to her was tall, impossibly so. Even though he was sitting down, she’d easily place him at six foot three or more. He had blond hair, which looked as if he constantly ran his fingers through it all day long, and stubble darkened his jaw…which had a freaking dimple in it. He glanced over at her and froze, his eyes narrowing when he caught her staring.
Cheeks heating, she turned away as fast as she could, breathing quickly. Her stomach tightened into a knot, and she stiffened because this was a feeling she hadn’t experienced in two years.
Ever since…
“Hello,” the man next to her said, offering an easy smile. Damn it, he was even hotter when he smiled. Why couldn’t he have crooked teeth, or an even more crooked smile? Couldn’t the universe do her one teensy weensy favor and make this guy a little less attractive?
But noooooooo.
“Mind if I sit here?” he asked quietly, his voice filled with deep respect. She had the feeling he was the type of guy who would never raise his voice in anger. Never lose his cool.
She happened to like men who were calm in the face of chaos.
“And if I politely decline?” she asked, like she always did when men hit on her in bars. It always made them shrink away and seek out easier targets.
He blinked. “Then I’d politely sit and drink my drink without bothering you, one seat over this way, because I want to watch the game, and the TV is over here.”
Gah! That was the perfect response.
Damn him.
Tucking her probably frizzy hair behind her ear, she forced a cool smile despite her racing heart. “I’m not saving the seat for anyone, so feel free to sit where you want.”
“Excellent.” He set his phone down on the bar next to hers. “How are you tonight?”
“Good. Great. Wonderful.”
A smile played at his lips again. “You’re empty.”
How did he know? “What?”
“Your glass.” He pointed at it. His fingers were long and lean, yet somehow strong, and coated with a light dusting of blond hair. “It’s empty.”
She tore her eyes off his fingers, pressing a hand to her stomach, which felt a hell of a lot emptier than her glass. Get over yourself, Daisy. They’re just fingers. “Oh. Right. I was about to get another.”
“Excellent.” When the bartender came up, the guy next to her gestured at her glass. “We’ll have two of whatever she’s having.”
The bartender started to walk away, but she held up a hand and he stopped, smiling flirtatiously at her. He’d been acting interested all night, but it hadn’t done a thing to her insides. Not like the guy beside her had within seconds of arriving. Ugh.
“You might want to rethink that, sir. I’m having a cosmo,” Daisy said, eyeing the man who’d managed to turn her on…or upside down…whatever. “It’s pink. And frothy.”
The man hesitated, laughing. “Uh…I happen to like pink drinks.”
“No, you don’t,” she said, tapping her fingers on the bar, and shooting him what was hopefully a playful smile, but probably came off more like a hyena on the prowl because she didn’t have a single frigging playful bone in her body and never had. “You’re just trying to play along. Act cool. Pretend not to be emasculated by the threat of a pink drink. Go on—get a whiskey instead, if you want. I won’t think less of you.”
Yep. That totally came out as more of a challenge than a flirtatious reply.
Daisy: 0. Hot guy: 1.
“Two cosmos, please. The pinker, the better.” After the bartender headed off, hot guy leaned in, shooting her an easygoing grin. “It happens to be my favorite color.”
She lifted a brow. “Is that so?”
“Yeah.” He lifted his leg. “I’ll prove it.”
Daisy blinked down at it in confusion. “What—?”
“See?” He rested the bottom of his black shoe on the side of her bar stool, lifting his pants leg. His socks were gray-and-pink plaid. “Told ya.”
A laugh escaped her. She couldn’t help it…but she did choke it off right away. It felt wrong, being amused by another man, today of all days. “Okay. Fine. I get it. You like pink. I do, too.”
“Is it your favorite color?” He smiled. “Because if it is, we already have something in common.”
Fighting back a smile, because he was so refreshing and playful and different from the men she usually met at bars, she shook her head. “Sorry.”
He held a hand to his heart. “Darling, you’re killing me. Please say it’s not blue.”
“It’s not,” she said, laughing, then pointed to the purse sitting next to her phone on the bar. “It’s yellow.”
He eyed her purse. “Yellow?”
“Yep. Guilty as charged. Guess we don’t have anything in common after all.” She lifted a shoulder and shoved her hair behind her ear again. To the left of them, a gorgeous blonde who was perfectly put together from head to toe watched the man next to her with hungry eyes. Daisy forced her focus off the other woman uncomfortably, because she had a feeling her eyes were just as hungry, and she didn’t like that. “Sorry.”
“I don’t think I’d say that…” He lowered his foot, watching her closely. The way he looked at her, all heated stare and hard jawline, made her stomach tighten enough to scare the crap out of her. She didn’t know this guy—didn’t need to be feeling things she had no interest in feeling.
It was time to end this flirtation before she did something stupid…
Like kiss him.
After a few seconds of silence on her part, he cleared his throat and held his hand out. “Since we exchanged favorite colors, I guess I should introduce myself? My name is—”
“Don’t,” Daisy inserted quickly, her tone tinged with a little bit of panic. The second she learned his name, she would never forget it…or him. It’s better not knowing.
His brow furrowed. “Don’t what?”
“Don’t do your spiel on me. The flirting. The smiles. The shared laughs. It won’t work.” She pushed his hand down, not shaking it. “You don’t have to tell me your name, either.”
He frowned. “Okay. I was just—”
“Look. You’re a nice guy and all, but I’m not the kind of girl who is going to go back to your room and show you if my panties match my purse. And I don’t need to know if your boxers match your socks.” She gestured to his feet, her cheeks on fire because, God, this is why she didn’t go out with guys, or engage in idle conversations with them at the bar. She wasn’t ready. Plus, she sucked at small talk. And flirting. And, you know, being cute and friendly. “I’m not that girl. I’m just a girl in a bar, drinking a few drinks, before I go back to my room…alone.”
When he didn’t say anything, just stared at her, she did the worst thing possible.
She started blabbering, because she and awkward silence we’re not friends.
“I’m not being a bitch. I just don’t play games, and you seem like a nice guy, so I don’t want to waste your time. If you’re looking to get laid tonight, you’ll have better luck with the blonde in the corner. She’s watching you like she’s just waiting for me to walk away so she can pounce.” She pointed at her, not even bothering to hide it. “I bet she’ll like your socks.”
“Wait.” He blinked, shifting back, but not leaving. “Are you saying that you don’t like my socks?”
“I…” She opened her mouth, closed it, opened it again, and nothing came out. Because out of all the things she said, he focused on that? “I…I like them. They’re perfectly nice socks.”
“So you do like my socks?”
She let out a nervous laugh. “Yeah. Sure. I like your socks. But that’s not the—”
“Oh, thank God.” He gave her an easy smile. How did he do that? Look so…so…casually hot? “I was about to get up and walk away.” The bartender came over with their drinks, and he paid before she could even open her purse. “Thank you,” he said to the server, who nodded and left them alone again.
She wasn’t sure what this dude’s game was, but if he walked away because she’d told him he wouldn’t get laid, that would say a lot about him.
He turned back to her, still smiling. When he saw her staring at him speculatively, he sighed. “Look, I didn’t come over here to get you naked in my bed. I came over to talk to you because, to be honest, you looked a little sad. And I hate seeing women sad.”
She swallowed hard, not sure what to say to that because he was right. She was sad, but it wasn’t something she wanted to talk about, especially with a stranger.
When she remained silent, he shifted closer. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to keep talking to you. But if you’d rather be alone, I’ll take my pink drink, and slide over a seat or two to give you space. I’m not interested in the blonde woman. I’m interested in you, and making you smile a few times, if you’ll let me.”
She should send this guy packing, because he was tempting her in ways she wasn’t ready to be tempted. She opened her mouth, and the stupidest thing she’d ever said came out instead. “I’d like that. You can stay.”

“You distract me, too. Ever since Tijuana, I can’t get your off my mind.”

The tape flies out of my hand. “You mean you…”

He glances around the room, then brings his sexy gaze back to me. “What I mean is that I want something different and you’re it.”

Nose scrunching, I sit back a little. “You want different, as in weird?”

“I like the beat of your drum.” He smiles at me, then his face grows all serious. “I’ve gone out of my way to see you, to have lunch with you, and to come to this class just so I can sit near you. Be near you. I want to know why you appeal to me so much.”

I snort. “Because I have a great boobs and awesome hair.”

His gaze dips to my chest, lingering there for so long that my nipples tighten. “Not going to argue with that.”

“Hayden, I’m really flattered, but my track record with guys isn’t exactly the best and you’re one in a long line of dudes who couldn’t handle the beat of my drum.”

He searches my face, like he’s trying to figure out if I’m teasing him, or simply playing hard to get. “Did you ever consider that it was the guys whose track records sucked and that maybe your drum beat doesn’t need to be handled?”

Tiny flashes of dim light spark in the darkened corners of my mind. Slowly, it turns from dusk to dawn, awakening my thoughts as the inner light grows brighter and brighter.

I hear a sound, a faucet running, and I realize it’s the blood rushing through my ears. When it reaches my heart I choke as it comes back to life like a bass drum. Boom. BaBOOM it beats, on and on, until it falls into a quick yet steady rhythm. The new life inside me grows louder, stronger, until death fades away and I awake on a gasp.

My eyes spring open. I try to take in air, but nothing happens. I try again and my lungs burn as they finally decide to cooperate. I can breathe, but it hurts like a son of a bitch.

I’m fucking alive.

My first thoughts shock the shit out of me. They’re of a girl. A sad looking girl with shiny black hair and huge dark eyes sitting on the edge of the water tower.

My heart falls out of rhythm, beating faster and faster until it’s thrumming against my chest like the vibration of a jackhammer.

Her.

Although my vision is blurry as shit, my thoughts of her are clearer than they’d ever been, and for the first time in my adult life, I’m fucking scared.

I don’t even need to see the big motherfucker standing over me with a baseball bat to know I am completely and totally fucked.

Samuel Clearwater, A.K.A Preppy, likes bowties, pancakes, suspenders, good friends, good times, good drugs, and a good f*ck.

He’s worked his way out from beneath a hellish childhood and is living the life he’s always imagined for himself. When he meets a girl, a junkie on the verge of ending it all, he’s torn between his feelings for her and the crippling fear that she could be the one to end the life he loves.

Andrea ‘Dre’ Capulet is strung out and tired.

Tired of living for her next fix. Tired of doing things that make her stomach turn. Tired of looking in the mirror at the reflection of the person she’s become. Just when she decides to end it all, she meets a man who will change the course of both their lives forever.

And their deaths.

For most people, death is the end of their story.

For Preppy and Dre, death was only the beginning.

This is the fifth book in the King Series and it’s meant to be read after Soulless.

rs-fb-1018-ad-1

royally-screwed-for-webEmma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled Series & Legal Briefs Series, returns with the first of three sizzling standalone books about a family of racy, irresistible Royals.

Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka “His Royal Hotness”, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant—hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.

Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.

Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.

***

Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.

There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.

But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it.

***

Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.

The next week is blissfully uneventful. I address Palace business during the day, and spend my nights with Olivia—which are so much more than blissful.

While I work, she relaxes like I want her to. She walks the grounds and has found a friend in Franny. They’ve had lunch together a few times, which doesn’t exactly thrill me, but at the very least, I know she’s safe with Simon’s wife.

Franny, and her forked tongue, will protect Olivia from the Lucy-types looking to wound her with their half-truths.

On the rare occasions my brother is sober, he becomes increasingly agitated—like he’s unable to sit still, to stand his own company, or any sound that resembles silence. Finally, he decides to throw a welcome home party for himself.

I’m in my bathroom preparing for his royal yacht party, just showered with a towel around my hips, scraping the last of the shaving cream off my jaw, when Olivia appears in the doorway.

I thought she was lovely from the first moment I saw her. But here, now—her bare, soft skin wrapped in a pink silk robe, her face glowing with well-rested happiness…she’s magnificent.

“So…do you guys have like a gift shop or a convenience store around here?”

I laugh. “A gift shop?”

She holds up a light blue disposable razor. “I’m out of razors. This one’s so dull I could run it over my tongue without drawing blood.”

“Let’s not test that theory. I like your tongue too much.” I wipe my chin with a towel. “I can have the staff bring one to your room.”

The devil on my shoulder—and the angel too—smack me upside the head. And they whisper a much better idea.

“Or…I could help you out.”

Her brows draw together. “Help me out? I can’t use your razor.”

“No, definitely not—you’d cut yourself to ribbons.” I finger the sharp, heavy straight blade. “What I mean is…I could shave for you.”

Her eyes darken, the way they do when she’s right on the edge—right before she comes. And she moves closer to me.

“Do you…want to do that?”

My gaze drags down, down, over every sumptuous inch of her body.

“Oh, yes.”

Sophie scanned the bar for Liam. The tables on either side of the room were all taken, wooden barrels serving as chairs. Servers carried trays over their heads, weaving through the people crowded on the dance floor. Drinking beer and talking, they waited for the band tuning up on the raised stage. When she was younger, Sophie had snuck into the bar a couple times to hear Liam and his brothers’ band. The owner had always spotted her and thrown her out for being underage.

“Get up there, Gallagher,” several people called out.

Sophie heard a familiar, deep laugh and went up on her tiptoes, following it to a table a few feet to the right of the stage where Liam sat. Sophie was about to turn to Ava and Dana and point him out when she felt herself being maneuvered through the crowd toward the stage.  “You have got to be kidding me,” she yelled to be heard over the crowd. “You set me up!”

“You were always trying to sneak in here to hear him sing. Now’s your chance.” Ava shrugged.

“You know what they say about payback, right?” But she wasn’t thinking about payback when Liam got up on the stage and accepted a guitar from a bearded man. She heard Dana and Ava talking behind her, and then they were tugging on the sleeves of Sophie’s coat. “What do you think you’re doing?”

“You’re looking a little warm,” Dana said.

Sophie sighed. Dana was right. She let them take off her coat. But then the band started to play and Sophie only had eyes for the man at center stage. He was looking right at her with a smile on his face. A smile she’d always dreamed would one day be directed at her. Sexy, hot, and filled with promises. Just like his voice when he started singing “Galway Girl,” only he changed black hair to brown, blue eyes to brown, and Galway girl to Gallagher girl.

Dana leaned into her when he came down off the stage. “It’s like that scene in P.S. I Love You.”

Sophie couldn’t respond even if she wanted to. Liam was in front of her, singing to her while the crowd sang along and clapped, stomping their feet in time to the music. Liam was a born performer. He played to the crowd, his voice deep and raspy. He circled her, moving closer each time. Then, just as the song ended, he cupped the back of her head and kissed her long and hard before saying to her in a thick Irish brogue, “Are you going to take me back to your room, my Gallagher girl?”
