About HAUNTED BE THE HOLIDAYS:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Heather Graham comes a new story in her Krewe of Hunters series…

When you’re looking for the victim of a mysterious murder in a theater, there is nothing like calling on a dead diva for help! Krewe members must find the victim if they’re to discover the identity of a murderer at large, one more than willing to kill the performers when he doesn’t like the show.

It’s Halloween at the Global Tower Theatre, a fantastic and historic theater owned by Adam Harrison and run by spouses of Krewe members. During a special performance, a strange actor makes an appearance in the middle of the show, warning of dire events if his murder is not solved before another holiday rolls around.

Dakota McCoy and Brodie McFadden dive into the mystery. Both have a
special talent for dealing with ghosts, but this one is proving elusive. With the help of Brodie’s diva mother and his ever-patient father – who were killed together when a stage chandelier fell upon them – Dakota and Brodie set out to solve the case.

If they can’t solve the murder quickly, there will be no Thanksgiving for the Krewe . . .

EXCERPT:

Caroline walked down the hallway where doors opened into dressing rooms, storage, prop, and costume rooms. She had grown into one of the company’s stars and had her own dressing room near the stairs, allowing for quick costume changes when need be.

On the way, she noticed the prop room door was ajar. She paused to close it and was startled by a leering face. She laughed softy to herself because it was the mask used by the monster in the show. In this twist on the original story, the horror of the creature only showed at certain times. And when it did, there was no time to transform the actor on stage.

The mask, conceived to look like a death’s head, made its appearance in the second act. It was horrible, created as a skeletal face with narrow bones, huge black eyes and a gaping mouth that twisted into a leering scowl.

She’d seen the mask at dress rehearsal, but it was still a chilling sight. It was set atop a stand that had been draped with the monster’s cloak, and it appeared to be as real as possible—without an actor even wearing it.

“You scared me!” she told the mask.

And closed the door.

Despite the lack of light here now, it was easy enough to feel her way to her dressing table in her small—but oh, so special and appreciated—dressing room. And even to find her little bag. She knew exactly where she’d left it. She grabbed her reticule, hurried out and paused—the prop room door was ajar again. The leering death’s head was sticking out at an odd angle.

Something had to be wrong with the way the thing had been set.

Sighing, she started to walk back to the room and see what the difficulty could be.

The face on the thing was cruel and menacing.

“Quite frightening,” she told the piece, approaching it.

“Caroline.”

She froze. It had seemed to say her name. Fear spread through her with a vengeance.

It would have to remain as it was, she decided. She was not staying a minute longer and Judson was right upstairs.

She turned to walk away and wound up running.

But as she reached the stairs and started up them, she knew that someone or something was behind her. She turned, compelled by some unknown force.

And she was stunned to see that the thing, the horrible mask, worn by someone who had also donned the cloak, was there before her.

She started to let out a scream.

It never left her lips. The thing came after her, seeming to float up the stairs, black cloaked arms flying…

Encompassing her and whispering before she could scream.

“The theater is mine, don’t you understand? The theater will always be mine.”

Its arms tightened as she choked out a dying, muted cry for help.

But she was silenced.

Forever.

Strong by Kylie Scott…Excerpt Blog Tour Stop

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series…

When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare.

As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line.

Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

“Ooh, busted,” said Lizzy. “The bodyguard caught you looking.”

“Shut it.” I inched my chin up a bit, trying not to frown because frowning gave you lines. “Sam and I have known each other for years and nothing has ever happened. You’re completely wrong about this.”

“Am I?”

“Yes, there’s nothing between us.”

“So that’s why you were staring at him?”

I chose not to answer that. “And you know he prefers to be called executive protection officer instead of bodyguard.”

At this, Lizzy burst out giggling, a malicious glee in her eyes. No wonder I liked my sister-in-law these days.

Ben shot us both an irritated glance. We both ignored it.

Of course, I’d known Sam would probably be here. Rock stars going out in public could be a delicate thing. People had a tendency to get overexcited. And while one person wanting an autograph wasn’t a problem, twenty or thirty of them suddenly swarming definitely could be. Having once been part of the entourage, I’d seen it happen to Ben and his fellow Stage Dive band members enough times to be wary. And you couldn’t get by with ordinary security. Rock stars needed protection from their over-zealous fans, but on the other hand they didn’t want the fans roughed up or hurt in any way. It required a delicate balance: control, experience, and a whole gamut of scary physical skills. Hence Sam.

Still, Portland seemed generally less crazy than the good old days back in LA. All of the guys seemed calmer and more settled away from the constant craziness of the party scene. Not to mention the effect of all of the wives/partners and various offspring. The biggest rock band in the world had officially been domesticated.

It was kind of cute. Or sad. I don’t know.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to stir you,” she lied. “What do you think of your brother’s new musical bromance?”

On the small stage set up in the corner of the room, a young man wailed his heart out while playing an acoustic guitar. Much angst about a girl who only called him after midnight. Trust a rockster to turn a simple booty call into a heartbreaking ballad. The song was damn good though. He had talent. If only I hadn’t had my fill of the type when I was younger. The kid looked to be in his early to mid-twenties. Lanky with lots of tattoos. Your typical rock ’n roll Prince Charming. Gag. These days my type ran more toward…actually, what I needed or wanted in a male was a total mystery.

And my gaze did not stray back to Sam. That did not happen.

“I don’t believe this,” I bitched. “My Valentino boots are actually sticking to the floor. That’s how gross this place is.”

Lizzy just smiled. “Told you to dress casual.”

“I am.”

The smile widened.

“Jeans and a tee is casual.”

“A tee? It’s velvet, Martha.” She held a bottle of beer up to her lips, taking a sip. “I said we were going to a dive bar. You have only yourself to blame for the fashion faux pas.”

“But velvet is in!”

“Would you two quit talking? I’m trying to listen,” said my brother, Ben. The big hairy idiot was slouched back in his chair, bopping his head in time to the music.

Lizzy shuffled closer all conspiratorial-like. “I know why you’re all dressed up.”

I said nothing. There was nothing to be said.

Next her gaze went to the man standing at the end of the bar across from us. No, no, I would not turn my head. I would not fall prey to her bullshit. After all, I’d managed to successfully avoid him for the forty-eight or so hours since my not so triumphant surprise return to the West Coast. Even with us both being in the same house. A very big sprawling house, but still.

On the other hand, it should probably be mentioned that he looked awfully good tonight in jeans and a white T-shirt with a leather jacket. Samuel Rhodes, otherwise known as Sam. Not a pretty man with his harsh features and bull-like neck, but something about him appealed to me. As always, his head was shaved and his body was built and my idiot fingers itched to explore.

Okay. So I guess at some point I must have turned my head. And shit, he caught me looking.

The corner of his lips rose just a little, just enough to mess with me, before he returned to doing his job by casually surveying the packed room. My heart did not speed up due to anything done by him. Clearly, I hadn’t totally caught my breath from when we’d walked in half an hour ago or something. That was all. Interesting to note, he did none of the checking me out typical of a heterosexual male who might have been into me. In fact, he didn’t really give me any signals at all. Ever.

MIDNIGHT UNLEASHED: A Midnight Breed Novella by Lara Adrian
Return to New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Lara Adrian’s “addictively readable” (Chicago Tribune) Midnight Breed vampire romance series with a pulse-pounding novella of paranormal seduction and dangerous thrills, where an icy immortal beauty and a lethal Gen One Hunter must confront a powerful enemy while struggling to deny the irresistible calling of their blood.

DIRTY FILTHY FIX: A Fixed Trilogy Novella by Laurelin Paige
I like sex. Kinky sex. The kinkier the better. Every day, it’s all I think about as I serve coffee and hand out business agendas to men who have no idea I’m not the prim, proper girl they think I am. With a day job as the secretary to one of New York’s most powerful men, Hudson Pierce, I have to keep my double life quiet. As long as I do, it’s not a problem. Enter: Nathan Sinclair. Tall, dark and handsome doesn’t come close to describing how hot he is. And that’s with his clothes on.

THE BED MATE: A Room Mate Novella by Kendall Ryan
I might be a typical guy, but these last few years, my love life’s been anything but. From crazy ex-girlfriends to one-night stands who are stage-five clingers, my relationships go bad faster than the milk in your fridge. The only constant has been my best friend Maggie.

Fresh off a bad breakup of her own, I invite Maggie to my guys’ skiing weekend knowing she needs an escape from reality. But then something funny starts to happen. I start noticing things about her that I never noticed before. But am I ready to screw up the best relationship I’ve ever had for a shot at something more?

LUCKY NUMBER ELEVEN by Adriana Locke
I’ve always been the person that does whatever someone tells me I can’t. Can’t graduate with a four-point-oh? Check. Can’t win a modeling contract without trying? Did it. Check. Can’t make it in the pro football league? Triple check with an MVP Award on top. When my best friend told me to stay away from his little sister, Layla, it didn’t sound like a challenge. Then again, I’d never seen her before. He obviously wasn’t thinking about who he was talking to if he believed I could ignore her. I obviously wasn’t thinking of him at all when I fell in love with her either.

HEARTBREAKER: Filthy Dirty Love Book 1 by Stacey Kennedy
Veteran cop, Maddox Hunt, is all about the job. Sure, there are women—lots of women, truth be told—but there’s no one special. Until a one-night stand from his past, rookie Joss O’Neil is assigned to his division. Suddenly, all he can think about is her. Fresh out of field training, Joss has thrown herself into her job, determined to kick-start her career. And while police work has its thrills, her gorgeous new boss is what really gets her pulse pounding. Too bad he’s nothing but a distraction. Especially since he’s as devastatingly handsome as she remembers.

Every Dark Nights tale is breathtakingly sexy and magically romantic.

Wound Tight by Lorelei James…Excerpt Tour Stop

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Lorelei James, comes WOUND TIGHT, a new crossover novella in her Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights! Be sure to grab your copy today!

About WOUND TIGHT:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lorelei James comes a crossover story in her Rough Riders/Blacktop Cowboys® series…

A May-December romance hotter than the 4th of July…

Bull rider Justin Donohue spent his youth hell-bent on winning world championships. After hitting the big 4-0, Justin takes a job at the Grade A Ranch and Rodeo School, where he immediately locks horns (and lips) with the sexy, sassy Callie—a 22-year-old cowgirl set on seducing him. Discovering their age difference doesn’t deter Callie; neither does Justin’s warning that she deserves more than a busted-up former rodeo cowboy.

From the moment Callie Morgan encounters the hot-as-fire new ranch hand, she knows his gruff manner is an attempt to mask his attraction to her. But she’s never backed down from a challenge, especially not when Justin’s actions speak louder than his denials. Callie doesn’t give a damn that he’s older than her or what others might think of their relationship. The uptight cowboy needs to relax and she’ll do whatever it takes to loosen him up, proving there are no age restrictions when it comes to lust…or to falling in love.

Excerpt:

Callie lowered her head to hide her eyes. She loved these women. They supported her in ways even her family hadn’t. Ever since the first time she’d cut her doll’s hair and pilfered her mom’s makeup, Callie had dreamed of working in a salon. It’d taken her longer to get to this point than she’d planned, but now that goal was finally within reach.

Loud clapping alerted them to the presence of Barb—aka the Barbarian—the front end manager. “Foxes. Listen up. Men’s night means we’ll be busy early, so I wanna see your asses on the bar dancing every thirty minutes. If your section is slow…you know the drill. Three-minute solo dance. Any questions?”

No one spoke.

Barb scrutinized each of the seven servers all dolled up…and then Callie. She lifted an eyebrow. “You’re on in ten minutes, Calamity. Get your makeup finished and your hair did and quit helping everyone else.”

“Yes, ma’am.” She twisted the ponytail holder around Vivi’s thick hair and pulled it tightly, fanning it out. “Done. Now move your ass so I can get ready.”

Vivi kissed her cheek and whispered “Thanks” as she passed by.

With no time to do pigtail braids, Callie fluffed up her honey-brown/reddish gold hair—a custom dye she’d formulated herself—with a shit ton of hairspray. She totally rocked the trailer park beauty queen style tonight. She finished her face in seven minutes with time left to dust shimmering powder on her chest, arms, and legs.

Callie remained behind the bar for the first two hours of her shift since she was a fast pour bartender and happy hour was always crazy.

During the first lull, something compelled her to glance at the entrance.

Her heart thundered when she saw the hot new ranch hand she’d spied on at Grade A.

The man could stop a damn cattle stampede looking like that. Black hat, fitted white western shirt, jeans, boots and the commanding presence that sucked the oxygen from her lungs and probably the air from the entire bar.

It’d been ages since she’d felt that twist of immediate lust.

Was he a player? Would he treat every woman to that panty-melting smile? Or would he act cool and aloof? Like he knew he was all that and he could have his pick of anyone in this bar.

The guy he was with—the other new hired hand—said something and the object of her lust laughed.

Sexy smile and a deep, unselfconscious laugh?

Yes, please. She wanted to feel that laughter against her throat. As she rode him to sweaty, loud orgasmic bliss.

At least four times.

She continued to watch him as he ambled toward the bar, that sexy-as-fuck cowboy saunter speaking volumes about how well he moved.

Well, buddy, I’ve got moves of my own.

He hadn’t noticed her yet and it was high time to change that.

Callie waved to the DJ. Then she hoisted herself onto the bar and did one slow spin around the pole to the whoops and hollers of the men surrounding her as she waited for the music signaling her solo dance to start.

EXCERPT:

“Have you seen the new ranch hand?” Callie gushed to her coworker Svetlana.

Svetlana—aka Lana—took a break from mopping and looked at Callie. “I cannot keep up with all of the new hires,” she said with a sniff.

“Oh, come on. How could you have missed him? I swear his hotness even made Mrs. Gradsky blush—and she’s been surrounded by good-lookin’ cowboys her whole life.”

“Did our boss lady catch you drooling over this man?”

“God no. I was literally hiding in the bushes outside the office as I picked up trash.” Callie sighed. “I had to stay still even when I wanted to break the damn branches to get a better look at that killer ass of his.”

“You were checking out his…?”

Her mind supplied “package” but virgin Lana would blush ten shades of crimson if Callie admitted that. Instead she said, “Behind? Of course. Such a hardship, watching that perfect cowboy butt sauntering away from me. But he did me a solid before he disappeared inside the office. He turned around and his frontside was just as delicious as his backside.” She whistled. “The man has it going on. Dark blond hair, vivid green eyes, great smile.” Amazing smile. Even from thirty feet away the man oozed charisma.

“You are what my mama used to call boy crazy,” Lana said.

“I’m not interested in boys. I’m interested in men.” Not that a man like him would take interest in her, especially not when she was covered in dust after a full day of doing grunt work.

“You are certain this new ranch hand is not married?” Lana asked.

“I assume not since he’s living in the bunkhouse with the rest of the hired hands.”

“How do you know that?”

Because curiosity had gotten the better of her. Despite Lana’s claims there were too many new hires, there actually weren’t. The Gradskys paid their employees very well, so employee turnover at the rodeo school or the ranch associated with the school was nearly nonexistent. When a new school session started there was an influx of students and parents, but the local staff only increased by two or three. And in the year she’d worked there, none of the hires had looked like him.

“Cal-lee,” Lana accused, stretching out her name. “You followed him.”

“I noticed him and another guy hauling some stuff from the parking lot into the bunkhouse.” She frowned. “He didn’t have much, now that I think about it.”

“Probably because he got kicked out of wherever he was living before. If he’s that good looking the guy’s probably a major player.” Her eyes took on a mean glint. “I hope if he cheated on his wife she took him for everything and he has to start over with nothing.”

Lana assumed the worst about everyone—men especially. Which made zero sense since she’d never had a boyfriend.

Living in and writing about rural settings gives me a unique perspective, especially since I’m not writing historical westerns. Through my fictional world, I can show the ideals and the cowboy way of life are still very much alive.”

Excerpt:

I close the door behind me, intending to return to the bedroom. Instead, I go outside. I pour another glass from the second bottle Jamie and I opened, then settle onto the chaise lounge and look up, letting myself get lost in the stars that blanket the moonless sky.

I don’t hear him, but I know when Damien steps onto the patio. The scent of him. The subtle shift in the air, as if Damien Stark truly is the force of nature I sometimes believe him to be. Mostly, though, I am simply attuned to him, and he to me. Of course, I know he’s there. Just as I knew that he would come.

I turn my head and let myself breathe him in, this man the gods must have made just for me. He’s strong and powerful and walks with confidence. His strides are long and straight, and his goal is clear—me.

When he reaches my chaise, he sits on the edge of it near my hip, then takes my hand in his. I’m still wearing the bathing suit I put on to lounge with Jamie, covered by a simple, lacey pull-over. It eased up when I sat, and now Damien’s slacks brush the bare skin of my thigh, making me hyperaware of our connection.

Damien lifts our joined hands, then kisses my knuckles. “Do you want to tell me what’s wrong?”

My eyes dart to his, and I see both apology and humor reflected on his face. “I think that’s my line,” I say.

Slowly, he slips his hand beneath the lace of my cover-up so that his palm presses against the bare flesh of my lower abdomen, just above my bikini line. The touch is casual, little more than a place to rest his hand, and yet the contact sends sparks shooting down through my core, making my inner thighs tingle and my sex burn hot and needy.

EXCERPT:

I’ve just popped a cube of Wisconsin Cheddar into my mouth when my phone chimes, signaling a call from Damien. “Hey,” I say through a mouthful of cheese. “Are you in the car?”

“Actually, I’m stuck here. It’s been one of those days.”

“Oh.” Disappointment crashes over me, along with the fear that my plans for a long weekend are going to be swept away in a flood of work crises. I draw in a breath and catch Jamie’s eye, her expression sympathetic. “Well, Jamie’s here. She can watch the kids, and I could come stay the night at the Tower Apartment.” Stark International is based in Stark Tower, one of LA’s downtown high rises. Damien’s private office takes up half the top floor, and his—now our—private apartment takes up the other half of the space.

“That’s tempting, but no. I need…”

As he trails off, that knot of worry in my stomach starts to tighten. “What?” I whisper, hoping that now, finally, he’ll tell me what’s the matter.

“I need to deal with this.”

“Damien, please—”

“I’ll be home as soon as I can. I promise. I love you. Kiss the girls for me. And I’ll see you later tonight.”

I hesitate, waiting to hear those familiar words: Until then, imagine me, touching you. But there’s only silence, and I swallow rising tears. “I love you, too. Do you want to talk to La—” I begin, but he’s already clicked off.

I draw a breath and stare at my phone before lifting my head and meeting Jamie’s eyes.

“I’m sorry,” she says. “But honestly, Nicholas, the man pretty much runs the entire known universe. Of course there’s stuff on his mind.”

She’s right, and I draw in a breath, suck it up, and force myself into a good mood as we change into swimsuits, then take the kids onto the back patio.

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Excerpt:

I opened my eyes, but I didn’t see the sun. I saw a form… a shape of a man. The features blurred, but I knew the man. It was him.

The Prince….

But that also didn’t make sense. None of this made sense. Confusion crept into the fuzz crowding my thoughts. Something was off. I tried to lift my hand, but my arm felt like it was weighted down. Something was wrong, very badly wrong, and I needed to remember—

Sleep.

The desire to slip away hit me hard and fast, obliterating the confusion and consciousness, and I slept. I slept for what felt like years and then I heard a steady beeping. It intruded on wherever I was, becoming so loud, so obnoxious to me, that I had to pay attention to it. A part of my consciousness zeroed in on the sound, clung to it, and I followed it back, tethering myself to the rhythm. With each passing second, my surroundings became clearer. Footsteps. I heard footsteps. Whispers. There was the sound of hushed voices. I dragged in a deep breath, and a shock hit my system. The breath hurt. Like my chest and ribs were too tight and a simple deep breath was too much to take—

Mom.

I saw her in my mind, as clear as day.

I saw her lying on her back in the darkness, her eyes wide and fixed on mine. There was nothing behind those eyes. No life. Nothing.

The beeping sound sped up.

The horrifying image of my mom faded like smoke, replaced by luminous skin and bloody smiles and taunts and…

Pools of blood. Actual pools of it. The ruby-red liquid spilled across stone, forming rivulets that ran between the spacing in the pavers. Why had there been so much blood? A vague feeling of wet warmth bubbling up my throat and choking me swept through me.

“Bri? Are you awake? Brighton?”

EXCERPT:

Did it make you a bad friend if you were completely, a hundred percent envious of that friend? Yes? No? Kind of?

I figured it was somewhere in between.

That’s what I was mulling over as I watched Ivy Morgan brush thick, red curls over her shoulder, laughing at something her boyfriend Ren Owens had said to her.

At least I wasn’t envious of that—their love. Okay, well, that wasn’t entirely true. Pretty sure anyone who was as single as me would be envious of all that warm and fuzzy that was passed back and forth with each long look or casual brush of skin. The two could barely tear their gazes away from one another to eat the dinner we’d grabbed at the cute little diner inside the shopping center on Prytania Street.

I honest to God couldn’t be happier for them. They’d been through so much—way more than two people should ever have to go through to be together, and here they were, stronger and more in love than ever, and they deserved that happiness.

But their epic love story wasn’t the source of a current case of the green-eye monster that was sitting on my shoulder.

Ivy was just such a… badass.

Even right now, relaxed in the chair, surrounded by twinkling Christmas lights with her hand in Ren’s and her belly full of a cheeseburger deluxe and crinkle fries and half of my tater tots, she could kick ass and take names along with addresses, telephone numbers, and social security numbers.

If the proverbial poo hit the fan, you called Ivy or Ren.

If you needed to know what streets Royal intersected with, you called… me. Or if you needed coffee or fresh beignets but were currently busy, you know, saving the world, you’d call me.

The three of us were all members of the Order, a widespread organization that was literally the only thing that stood between mankind and complete, utter enslavement and destruction by the fae. And not the super cute fae found in Disney movies or some crap like that. Humans thought they were on top of the food chain. They were wrong. The fae were.

The only thing pop culture got right about the fae was their slightly pointy ears. That was it. The fae were more than just beings from another world—the Otherworld—they were capable of glamouring their appearance to blend in with humans. But all Order members, even me, were warded at birth against the glamour. We saw through the human façade to the creature that lurked beneath.

My Review:

The Prince is the newest release from author Jennifer L. Armentrout and is part of the 2018 1,001 Dark Nights collection.  I adore Ms. Armentrout’s writing and was so excited to get my hands on the story one of the characters I’ve been anticipating from her Wicked series.  Well, it was just as incredible as I had imaged it would be.  I loved every second of this read!

From the very beginning we are transported to the world of the fae in New Orleans.  With a setting like New Orleans, it’s easy to believe anything paranormal is possible and with the unique spin Ms. Armentrout puts on these beings, you can’t help but be sucked in to each page.  Our heroine, Brighton, is a total badass who isn’t afraid to fight what she believes is right and I loved her for that.  The Prince, Caden, is equally as amazing a character with so many facets to his personality.  I knew I would grow to love him (and boy, did I ever!).  Brighton and Caden’s journey is filled with danger, twists and turns, and emotion.  It was simply incredible!

I also loved seeing more of Tink, one of the most fun characters ever! I will say the end is a bit of a doozy (in a good way!) and, to me, that made this novella even more enjoyable.

Whether you’re already a fan of Ms. Armentrout and her writing, or this is your first taste, I know you’ll love it as much as I did.
