After the Kingstons destroyed his grandfather’s career, Nick vowed to take over their company. He’s inches from victory when he finds himself bought and paid for…by his sexy ex-girlfriend who’s hell-bent on saving her family’s company. Between their families’ feud and their own unfinished business, tempers – and emotions – run hot. Too hot.

Because kissing with the enemy is a guaranteed shoe-in for trouble…

My review:

Heart and Sole is the newest work from author Miranda Liasson and one that I absolutely loved.

With a small town setting, the main character’s background and prior romance leading them to where they were today, and a long-standing family feud, this book was wonderful.

Maddie Kingston was in a bit of a pickle. She had to save her family’s business and had to find a way to do it damn fast. She had one hope…Nick Holter. Too bad Nick was the last person she wanted to ask for help from. He had broken her heart years ago and the wound was still way to fresh. But he had purchased a large chuck of the shares of the business and she had to make him see that he needed to save the company, not dismantle it. Could she sweep aside the broken pieces of her heart to save the day?

Nick Holter was in a bit of a pickle. He was the largest shareholder in his family’s sworn enemy’s company and although he would love to gain a bit of revenge for his family and shut down the business, he knew deep down he couldn’t do that to Maddie. Maddie, the girl from his past that he had never been able to let go. The girl he had never felt he was good enough for or deserved. But with a twist of fate, and a charity auction, he would end up spending the weekend with her in their hometown where all the feelings he had for her would threaten to surface. Could he finally tell her how he felt? Would she ever feel the same way for him….especially after he broke her heart?

With so much from their past threatening to keep them apart, can Maddie and Nick ever find their happy ever after?

I loved this book! It was entertaining and fresh with characters that leapt off the pages. I love a good reunited lovers story and also love a small town romance…this was a great mix of both. There was so much emotion between not only Nick and Addie but their entire family as well and that made the story that much more enjoyable. There’s a great combination of tender moments, family fueled drama, passion, and even a good amount of humor.

If you’re looking for a well-rounded story to spend an afternoon with, I highly recommend Heart and Sole! Thank you, Ms. Liaison, for a wonderful read!

About the author:

I am a writer of contemporary romance, represented by Jill Marsal of the Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

In 2013, I won Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart Award® for a story that has become This Thing Called Love, which debuts from Montlake Romance this spring. It’s about life and love and the hard choices we all sometimes have to make. It’s heartwarming but lighthearted, too.
I also write lighthearted contemporary romance for Entangled Indulgence that will debut in July, 2015.
I write romance because I love stories about the experience of being human, and love is the universal experience we all share. I also love stories that have happy endings and make me laugh. I hope my stories make you laugh a little, too.
My debut novel, a fun small town romance with a lot of heart, is coming in May, 2015, from Montlake Romance. I’m also contracted with Entangled Publishing–stay tuned for release dates.
For about five years before writing contemporary romance, I wrote Regency and early Victorian historical romance and I still love to read historical romance. I hold a masters degree in Literature and read widely across many genres. I love Jane Austen and am a total John Keats fan girl! I always have multiple books going at once and almost never go anywhere without one. My favorite books are ones that contain great insights about life and love and the experience of being human. And have happy endings. And make me laugh. Sad book, unhappy ending–um, no thanks. Well, maybe for good discussion purposes. Maybe.
I am a proud member of my local RWA chapter, the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Romance Writers of America. I live in Northeast Ohio with my husband and three kids, my office mates Maggie, a yellow lab, and Posey, a rescue cat with more attitude than my teenagers. EXCERPT

She sensed him.
Maybe she’d caught a glimpse of his tall form out of the corner of her eye, but she knew that Colton was behind her. A sense of exhilaration came over her, along with a dash of impulsiveness.
Stopping, she braced one hand against the wall and lifted her foot behind her. Arching her back, she toyed with the high heel as if it needed adjusting. Carefully, she turned the bracelet on her ankle so the charm lay on the outside of her foot.
Her breath caught when he was suddenly on her.
His arm swept around her waist as it had when he’d caught her in the kitchen, and he pressed her against the wall.
‘Colt –’
She didn’t get his whole name out, because his mouth was suddenly covering hers in a kiss so hot, she worried her shoes would melt.
He caught her wrists and pressed them flat against the wall on either side of her head, and arousal gushed inside her. Slick and viscous, it filled her veins, making her muscles tense and relax at the same time.
It had been good when she’d kissed him before. Fantastic.
This was the first time he’d taken the lead, and the sensuality was insane.
He tore his mouth away from hers. His chest was rising and falling in jagged movements. ‘You have to stop this,’ he said hoarsely. ‘You have to stop teasing me. Stop tempting me.’
‘No, I don’t.’ Her breaths were coming hard, too, and she ran her tongue over her lips. ‘Give in.’
‘Erin.’ His voice was sharp, like when he went after someone on the stand.
She arched sexily. She wanted him to come after her.
‘I have,’ she whispered.
His eyes flashed to nearly the colour of midnight. His fingers bit into her wrists, and Erin revelled in it. A sound left the back of his throat, and his mouth came down hard on hers again. Their lips sealed tight, and his tongue laved hers.
‘Mmm,’ she hummed when her need cranked up a notch.
He had her trapped, held down, but she arched her back to rub against his body. His weight pressed against her as he leaned in, his chest hard against her breasts, plumping them and making her nipples pinch.
The kiss went on and on. It had been years in the making.
‘Take me upstairs,’ she whispered when they were forced to come up for air. ‘To my old bedroom.’
His curse echoed in her ear. ‘Do you really want my head on a platter?’
She didn’t understand. She wanted his body on a bed. Or the floor. Or right here.
His mouth ran down the side of her neck, and his teeth closed around the muscle that led to her shoulder. She let out a moan and twisted into him. The sound echoed down the hallway, but he cut it off with another blistering kiss.
Erin strained against her constraints. She couldn’t touch him, couldn’t hold him. It was hot as hell, but so frustrating.
‘Let me touch you.’
‘Not going to happen.’
Yet he didn’t stop kissing her. Or rubbing intently against her breasts.
But he deliberately kept his hips away. She could feel his hardness barely brushing against her belly. She wanted more. She needed to feel his hot, muscled body against hers.
She did the only thing she could; she climbed him like a tree.
Swinging a leg high around his waist, she hitched herself up. His hips swung forward, almost as if they had no other option. She took advantage of the opportunity. Knowing he wouldn’t drop her, she hopped up and wrapped both thighs around his waist.
When she settled down, his erection was right where she needed it the most. Big, hard and hot. They both shuddered when she ground against him.
‘God! Sunny, I can’t do this. Not here.’
‘Then where?’
‘No.’ He shook his head as if to clear it. ‘That’s not what I meant.’
Erin had never felt a desire so intense or a need so strong. She had to be with him. She needed to feel him inside her. It was the only thing that would douse the heat in her core. She was ready to burst into flames at the smallest spark.
She rolled her hips almost frantically. This was no dry hump this time. Just a few more strokes, and she would be ready to come. He pumped up to meet her, and she let out a whimper of need.
‘Erin?’ They both froze when her mother’s voice came down the hallway.
Colton tore his mouth away from hers, and his muscles went taut.
‘Yes?’ Erin called, her voice squeaky.
‘Could you bring me a cup of tea, dear?’
Erin swallowed hard, but her voice still came out all wrong. ‘Sure, mom. Just . . . ohhhh . . . just give me a moment.’

Just One Lie by Kyra Davis….ARC Review

Just One Lie releases today

51N9CXblD2L._SX319_BO1,204,203,200_

Synopsis:

The long-awaited follow-up novel to the runaway New York Times bestseller Just One Night—which Publishers Weekly gave a starred review and proclaimed, “Davis skillfully creates an uplifting story in which sex is presented both as freedom and as a metaphor for power, and where raw chemistry is the clear winner over bland complacency.”

In the instant international sensation Just One Night, sensible Kasie Fitzgerald unleashed her passions—and found herself—through an explosive affair. In Just One Lie, we meet Kasie’s wild and tortured sister, whose impulsivity and lack of self-control has set off a chain of events that changes her family forever.

Melody Fitzgerald is the opposite of the “perfect” daughter. The lead singer of an indie rock band, she is impulsive and creative, with a rebellious streak that both defines her and becomes her greatest enemy. Her lover, the enticing and unpredictable Ash, shares her free spirit and penchant for trouble. On the face of it, he seems to be her perfect match.

So why is she so drawn to her soft spoken, reliable drummer, Brad Witmer? How can a man who wears polo shirts and reads the financial section of the paper be of any interest to her at all? And why on earth does someone like that appear to be so captivated by her?

Before she knows it, Melody finds herself on a path of self-discovery, passion, and affairs of the heart. But will a dark secret from her past derail it all? Or will its exposure be the very thing that unburdens her heart and allows her to seek a future with the one man who loves her completely?

My review:

Just One Lie is the second book in author Kyra Davis’ Just One Night Series and even though I own the first in the series, Just One Night, this is the first of Kyra’s work that I’ve read. Which looking at it now is absolutely NUTS because I loved this book. Beyond loved.

First I want to mention that this can be read as a standalone, as I can attest to, and you won’t be lost or miss out on anything. Ok…now onto a hopefully not rambling review as you may know I tend to do when I love a book this much…

Melody Fitzgerald could be called a wild child. She could be called a free spirit with a devil-may-care attitude. She could also be called talented with a gift for creating edgy and beautiful music and giving performances that took an audience’s breath away. But that was the thing with Melody…she was multifaceted and holds many different sides to her personality. That’s what drew people to her and what had the either holding her close or pushing her away. It’s what attracted the brooding and mysterious Ash as well as the very opposite preppy and stable Brad. Two very different men attracted to a woman who was like a freshly blown soap bubble….beautiful and mesmerizing but fragile and ready to pop at any moment. There’s lots of emotion swirling under the surface like the iridescent colors on the clear bubble and it’s those emotions and Melody’s past that threaten to make her pop. Will either Ash or Brent be able to help her stay afloat?

It was a hard choice for me when I first started reading, to be honest, on who I would choose for her to end up with. I loved the way the story opened up with Ash and I loved their hot and heavy relationship but I wasn’t sold on him. Enter Brad. The sexy drummer who looked anything but. He was preppy and solid with a maturity about him that didn’t fit the typical drummer persona. I loved him almost immediately and loved that there was also a mystery about him. Of course, when we get beyond the surface with Brad I loved him even more. I don’t want to give anything away but I will say he is 100% swoon worthy.

Of course nothing was easy when it came to Melody. She has too many demons in her past and they are always threatening to break free at the most inopportune times. It broke my heart to see her struggling. Normally, I prefer a damaged hero being rescued by a good and whole heroine. This was the complete opposite and I loved it more than I thought. Never once did I find Melody weak or annoying. Her struggle was touching and gut wrenching. Her journey is indeed a rough one but also one that I loved from start to finish. I laughed and cried and, as I said earlier, devoured in one sitting. It was dark and beautiful and ended on such a perfect note that I wore a silly grin on my face for the rest of the day. So, so, so good!

Ok….hopefully I didn’t put you to sleep with this long review and hopefully you got the hint that I adored this story and highly recommend! Thank you, Ms. Davis, for an amazing read!

Blurb

(Stand alone)

I’ve loved once. I gave everything that I had to that love. Blindly believing that nothing could ever take that feeling away from me. Away from us. And when my little world of happiness was ripped from my fingers, I felt a loss that still haunts me to this day.

Now I use that lingering grief as a shield to keep my heart from loving again. It’s that fear that keeps me from letting anyone, except my daughter, get close enough to make it hurt. To make my heart bleed when I inevitably lose again.

Until the day I met Liam Beckett and everything I thought I had protected myself from was shoved back in my face.

He’s on a mission to prove to me that a love worth having is a love worth fighting for.

bleeding love teaser 2

Excerpt

His mouth leaves mine and with his hand still on my leg, he demands, “Dig your heels in deep, baby.”

I give him what he wants, but not because he told me to.  I give him what he wants because when his hand leaves my leg and pushes into the mattress, bringing his body up he goes even deeper into my body and those heels push hard.

Just as he demanded earlier, my hands go to his shoulders on my own accord and as he takes my body hard, my nails dig in with my heels still pushing hard against the small of his back.  Our eyes never leave each other’s probing gaze.  Never once do I take my eyes away from his, so full of lust that I know there isn’t an ounce of control left in his body.

He drops his head and I lift up to meet him in a kiss so sweet it doesn’t match the powerful way that he’s taking my body.  A kiss that gives me more than words ever could at this moment.  His hips slow and as his tongue rolls against mine, his hips start to take me in slow, deep rolls.  He doesn’t pull back, just rocks his hips against mine.

I push up and cry out when he slips even deeper.

His lips come from mine and his hooded eyes open a sliver.  “Feels like heaven,” he says softly.  “Everything, darlin’.  Feels like everything.”

Review

Every time I read a book by Harper, I swear my girl fanning just goes even more bonkers than before (if that’s even possible).
This book gave me chills all over my body the whole time I was reading it.  It just came across as so heart-felt and gut-wrenching.
Megan is a widow and single mom.  When you have your loved one taken from you, it’s very hard to believe in finding love again – allowing your heart to take that leap again.  My heart hurt for Megan.
Liam – this man won me over big time.  He has the most patience ever and showed Megan so much respect.  But he never once gave up on her and them.
The banter between them is so sweet and funny.  I found myself tearing up at times and other times just laughing out loud.  It just so real and honest.
I will be honest – I am surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did.  And I say that because I love a book that has some suspense and drama into – I crave that in my books.  Bleeding Love is just an honest and beautiful love story.  And I thoroughly enjoyed the simplicity of it in that way.
Bleeding Love is the second book in the Hope Town series but each book can be read as a standalone.  And this is a series I definitely recommend.

If you are looking for a strong, confident Alpha male – look no further than Deacon.  This man oozes Alpha!
Deacon always get what he wants and when he sees his newest model, Mia, he wants her.  Nothing and no-one will stop him.
Mia, however is unavailable.  She lives with her boyfriend of 8 years, even though he’s more like a roommate anymore.  But no matter the circumstances, she won’t cheat.
Deacon definitely makes it very obvious that he wants to meet Mia.  Mia is a very strong woman and isn’t one to give into anyone’s demands very easily.
I love that game of chase these two play.  And Deacon has a few secrets that he holds from Mia.  As they are slowly revealed, it’s Mia who may end up walking away forever.
Fantastic plot and Cheryl wrote it beautifully.   The whole book flowed perfectly and I loved how everything played out.  I ended up devouring this book in one sitting I was so engrossed in the plot.  I am looking forward to more in this series!
About the Author:
When one door closes, another one opens. I closed the door to my business for the last time in 2011, which left me with a decision. What now? Find another location and move my nutrition business, go to work for someone else, or take a chance on my dream? I chose the latter and I’ve never looked back!
I’ve always loved reading and writing, but it wasn’t until I jumped in with both feet and decided writing would be my career, instead of just a hobby, that my muse woke up from her deep slumber.
It was like someone flipped a switch inside my head and stories just came pouring out. At the end of the day, I would often look at the keyboard and wonder, ‘Who the heck wrote that? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure it wasn’t me!’
I don’t write books. I tell stories, or rather, I allow my characters to tell their stories through me. I’m not a plotter, never have been, never will be. Why? Because I have no idea how the story will evolve and it’s not my place to manipulate it. My job is to get to know these characters, figure out what makes them tick, then follow their journey wherever it takes me.
When I’m not writing, I’m daydreaming. Thankfully, I have an understanding husband and son who know I’ll re-join the land of the living just as soon as my muse decides it’s quitting time. I don’t work for myself. I work for her. She’s the boss. And I’m okay with that.

Excerpt:
With the launch party at the forefront of my mind, I made my way downstairs to wardrobe.
Half a dozen women turned, gaping at me. I rarely made personal selections for my models, but I
didn’t think my presence warranted such stunned silence.
“Good afternoon, ladies,” I said, trying to hide my amusement.
“Hello, Mr. Starkis,” one of the women stammered. “How can we help you?”
“I’m here about the fashion show this weekend.”
She gestured toward several hanging racks. “Everything’s taken care of, sir. You’re
welcome to have a look at the samples. They’re right over there.”
“I’d like to see what Mia Barnes will be wearing.”
Two women exchanged curious glances before one said, “Of course, Mr. Starkis. I’ll get
those selections right away.”
I barely noticed the gorgeous models milling about half-naked, being fitted for the upcoming
show. Many were trying to get my attention, smiling or giving me sultry looks as they met my
eyes in the full-length mirror. They had been hand-selected for their talent and beauty, but none
were Mia, therefore none held my attention for long.
“Here they are,” the harried, middle-aged woman with the blond bob and pixie skirt said. “I
think these will look fabulous on Mia.” She laughed. “I’ve worked in this business a long time, and I can tell you it’s rare to find a model who looks amazing in everything she tries on. Most
have some flaw they wish to hide, but not our Mia.”
I smiled tightly. Our Mia? Wrong. She was my Mia. “I’m sure you’re right, but that one
won’t work,” I said, pointing at the lavender silk bra and matching panties on the white satin
hanger. “Next.”
Looking stricken, the woman said, “But—”
“It’s lovely…?”
“Barbara.”
“It’s lovely, Barbara. Just not what I have in mind for Mia. May I see the next one?”
She held up a black lace bustier with a matching thong, looking apprehensive. She had every
reason to be nervous. The only time I expected to see Mia parading around wearing that was
when she was modeling it for me.
“I want her to model the bridal collection.” I knew that was sexy yet demure.
“The bridal collection?” Barbara seemed stunned by my request.
“Is there a problem?”
“Um, no, but with Eleni’s darker coloring, I thought she would be perfect for the bridal
collection.”
“You thought wrong,” I said, pinning her with a stare that brooked no argument. “Switch
them. Eleni can wear these.” I gestured toward the pieces Mia had been slotted to wear. “Mia
will model the bridal collection.”
“Of course, Mr. Starkis. Anything you say, sir.”

Is the recording contract he’s offering merely a pretense?

Or does he have something more in mind?

Does he really believe that they can just pick up where they left off, despite all the bad luck and heartache?

And is she willing to risk everything again for one last chance at love?

My review:

Outside is the newest work from author Michelle Mankin, an author I have enjoyed reading in the past, and follows the journey of a couple from their first young love dating days through a nasty breakup and present day reconnection. It was sweet and sexy and quite enjoyable!

Simone and Lincoln meet when they are both young and the connection and attraction they feel becomes all-consuming. The problem comes when life, family, and their pasts and current paths tear them apart. Fast forward fifteen years to when they reconnect in person. Because even though they had been apart, their connection was still very real and very strong.

What I loved about this book was when we first meet this couple, it’s in the present day and we are thrown into an emotional turmoil right away. It was an instant pull into the book and I loved that. I also loved reading their past and felt so connected to the feelings and emotions they felt toward one another and reminded my of my first love. It’s kind of funny, actually. I related to this story because it’s very reminiscent of a boyfriend I once had and our high emotion start, breakup, and ultimate reunion…and he’s now my husband of almost 14 years. I really appreciated all of that new relationship angst! The one thing I wish we could have seen more of was the present day and having seen more of Lincoln working to get Simone back. Overall, though, this was a great read!

If you’re looking to escape into a story with wonderful characters and high emotion, this is a book for you. A perfect beach read! Thank you, Ms. Mankin, for a terrific story!

“Dammit, Mona.” I leaned in closer inhaling her sweet scent and nearly brought to my knees with desire. I wanted to have her. Right here. Right now. I had to curl my fingers into fists to keep from reaching out, grabbing her and reminding her how it used to be between us. Her lids lowered and her breathing turned ragged. Was she remembering, too, or trying to forget?

“Go away, Linc.” Apparently the latter.

“Maybe I can’t,” I admitted my voice raspy with stripped down need. “Maybe I don’t want to.”

“Don’t.” She closed her eyes and her chin dropped. “Don’t do this to me.” She wet her lips. They visibly trembled. Even though I knew I had upset her I still wanted to kiss them. “I’m not one of your groupies easily flattered by your bullshit. The fact that you’re a big rock star doesn’t impress me. I know who you really are Lincoln Savage. I’ve seen you at your best and I’ve survived you at your worst. So don’t think you can come here and play games with me.”

The walls vibrated as soon as the spotlights hit them. Feet stomped. Fans yelled. Some even stood on their chairs. Camera lights clicked on and so did Lincoln. Brightly. He strode to the center of the stage. Confident. Compelling. Controlled. A cosmic force.

He plucked the mic from the stand glared at the audience daring them to come along with him or get the hell out of the way, before he and the guys launched into a cover of ‘Satisfaction’ that kicked ass as righteously as the original.

It went uphill from there. Ramon on guitar flashing his flirt. Ash slamming sexy on his drums. Patch firm and steady on bass. And Linc my gorgeous warrior with depths of worth that he still failed to recognize eclipsing them all. The Dirt Dogs might still a bit rough around the edges but they were undeniably on the ascent. What had started out as something to occupy their time when the surf wasn’t up had transformed into a magical mélange of Pacific saltwater, California sun and hard rocking in your face attitude.

I moved quickly across the parking lot shielding my eyes from the glare when I reached the sand. The tension inside my stomach instantly ratcheted tighter. I recognized Lincoln right away. Even in his wet suit the way he moved across the surface of the ocean on his board was as unique as he was.

Under the curtain unleashing his fins.

Maxing out of the tube.

Finding steep wall and going nearly vertical.

Those were the maneuvers I knew, the others I didn’t but that didn’t make them any less awe inspiring.

“You afraid?”

I shook my head. I was never afraid of him. Never.

He studied me a beat seeming to notice my parted lips, heavy breathing, hard nipples and trembling.

“Turned on?” he guessed.

I nodded.

“Get on my board then, babe. I aim to please if you’ll let me.”

Most people know Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Summer, as Ryan, no last name required. But once upon a time, he was just Summer to Carrie Ann—before a decade of blockbuster hits skyrocketed his success into superstardom.

Summer was smart, gorgeous, and cocky as hell. Nothing was out of his reach. Not even Carrie Ann Lowell. He was the love of her life—until he shattered her heart. Their breakup left more than a profound rift in her soul. It crushed her.

When Carrie Ann’s college flame forces his way back into her life, his dirty-talking, bold self-assurance re-ignites a passion she thought had long since been extinguished. Carrie Ann didn’t believe in second chances.

Not even for him.

No matter how deliciously tempting.

With sparks flying and hidden truths unraveling, will Carrie Anne be able to deny her desires to save herself from another heart break?

Summer skewered her with a harsh stare. “Stop acting like you don’t feel the connection we share.”

“That was a long time ago, Summer. You don’t know anything about me anymore.”

“Ah, that’s where you’re wrong Red. I know exactly who you are. What you want. What makes you happy. You need a man who will want you for exactly who you are. Independent, hardworking, passionate, fun, bossy and as stubborn as the day is long…in Alaska.” In spite of his seriousness, she almost smiled. “You also need a man who’s confident enough to put you in your place occasionally.”

“Don’t forget faithful,” she stabbed, whirling her back to him. Her breasts on display to the great outdoors reaching for her shirt. Thrusting each arm into the oversized sleeves, she busied herself with the buttons. High strung emotions caused her fingers to tremble, hindering her progress. “That man doesn’t exist.”

She heard him make a scoffing sound as he latched his fingers around her wrist, turning her to face him. Her heart spurred into a frantic beat. His grip so gentle and caring that she had no chance at resisting him. The soft cotton fabric of her shirt listed open all the way to her navel and below. The slope of her full breasts fully exposed, yet he seemed enthralled with her face.

“Our connection is far more than physical. We share a closeness, an intimacy that stretches beyond that of past lovers, Carrie Ann. Our bodies, our energy, we vibrate on the same frequency.” A familiar strain in his tone, low and ragged, flooded her with memories of long nights filled with passion and companionship. “Your laugh reaches the darkest, dustiest corners of my soul and brings it to life. When you’re near me my heart feels fuller. My breath comes easier. My smile…fuck…I can’t wipe it off my face when I’m near you. I connect with you on every level of my being, Carrie Ann.”

“What are you? Some kind of inspirational relationship guru now?”

He ignored the dig. “You make me fall for you…every…single…time just by the way you look at me.”

Battling the oncoming waterworks burning the back of her eyes and nose, she willed her defenses, regarding him scornfully, “You just want a blow job or…or a fuck for the night.”

His eyes broadened. Her crudeness surprised him more than it shocked herself.

“Well, I do love the vision of your mouth wrapped around my cock.” He moved closer, coasting his fingers along the ridge of her jaw. “And I most certainly want to fuck you senseless.”

“I’m sure you’ve knocked sense into plenty of women.”

“Carrie Ann, I’ve never wanted to fuck another woman the way I want to fuck you.”

Her lip curled, repulsed by his words. Summer was visibly shaking. She started to pull away from him, but he gripped her arms.

“You’re also the only woman I can really talk to. And the woman I want to look into the future with. Plain and simple, Red. I just want you. Inside, outside, upside down and fucking sideways.” The demanding but gentle squeeze of his fingers around her biceps, drew a rush of breath from her lungs. A flash of belligerent male triumph ignited fire in his eyes. Apparently he was happy to have finally made his point. “Carrie Ann, you’re the only woman I want in my bed when I wake up every morning.”

review

I absolutely adore reading books by Beverly Preston.  She never cease to amaze me with her stories and the way she writes.

A Taste of Summer is part of the Matthew Family series and I can attest that you can read this book as a standalone without having read any of the others.

Carrie Ann and Summer have a run-in after not being in each others lives after 10 years.  But it seems as though that some things just never go away, even after many years apart.

I love the whit and humor that just flowed out of Carrie Ann’s mouth.  I think that’s partially why I love her so much.  Summer – yea, he’s a heartthrob.  And he is determined to get through to Carrie Ann.  However, he is keeping a secret of his own.

I won’t give any tidbits about the plot away aside from what I have already said.  I really enjoyed reading this story. It had alot of what I enjoy in a summer romance read – humor, character, passion, love and really sexy scenes!!

Great job Beverly!  You once again have made me fall in love with your characters and story!  You delivered a story that many readers are sure to enjoy!

Call On Me by Roni Loren….Blog Tour Stop & Review

Call On Me Tour Banner

CallOnMe4

Book Blurb:

Oakley Easton wants two things: to be a good mom to her daughter and to ditch her less than ideal night job. Hooking up with bad boy drummer Pike Ryland? Not on the agenda. She needs a promotion. Not sex, tattoos and rock ’n’ roll.

Pike isn’t about to let Ms. Prim and Proper shut him down so easily, especially when he stumbles upon Oakley’s sexy night job. She’s only playing a role on those late night calls with strangers, but when he gets her on the line, all bets are off. He won’t stop until that sultry voice is calling his name for real.

But as they move from anonymous fantasies in the dark to the flesh-on-hot-flesh reality of the bedroom, the risk of falling in love becomes all too high. And the safe, quiet world that Oakley’s worked so hard to create is about to be exposed to the one person who could ruin it all.

My Review:

Call On Me is the eighth book in author Roni Loren’s Loving On The Edge series and the first in the series I have read. Well, after reading this book I have gone back and bought the entire backlist because this book was phenomenal and Ms. Loren is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

This is an imaginative and original tale of sexy rocker meets reserved single mom with a few twists that made me fall in love with these two characters and kept me glued to every page…which seems like a rarity for me these days.

Oakley is a strong gal with a somewhat hidden talent and a story behind her reluctance to embrace it. I love the many layers to her personality. Her daughter is her life now and she does whatever is needed to make ends meet and give her a happy life. I admired that so much. I also loved how she didn’t give in right away to Pike’s charms….and there were charms aplenty! I think she gave him the right amount of “run for his money” and gives in at just the right time, in my opinion. Which, again, I think is rare in a character these days. She’s a gal I would love to be friends with if she jumped off the pages.

Pike is equally amazing. He gives Oakley the space she needs and time to warm up but his persistence is so heartwarming and sexy as hell. He truly ended up being a knight in tattooed armor and has such a delicious soft side opposite his rocker facade. He was so good with both Oakley and her daughter and I loved the sexy ways he employed to get Oakley to open up to him and try new things.

Together these two are smoking hot and deliver a delectable pairing of smoking hot heat and tender emotion. Now, I will say their journey has a few bumps along the way and the last bit of the book had me crying and my heart breaking but not to worry….Ms. Loren delivered an ending that was totally movie worthy and had me swooning and sighing happy contended sighs. I just loved it!

If you’re looking for a fresh take on the sexy hot rocker meets good girl story with well-developed characters, this is a book for you! As I said earlier, Ms. Loren is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and I cannot wait to read more from her in the future!

Excerpt:

“So,” Devon said, obviously searching for a change in topic, “you know a guy in the next band?”

“The drummer. He’s the one helping out with that music project at Bluebonnet. He gave us tickets, thought Reagan might have fun.”

Dev’s eyebrow arched. “Right. Because he thought your kid might have fun.”

“It’s not like that.”

“Uh-huh.”

Guitar chords blasted through the speaker for a moment as the crew on stage did the sound check. Oakley turned her head as the big screens on the side of the stage lit up with a publicity photo for Darkfall—the wind making the screens ripple and the bodies in the picture come to life. The crowd cheered.

“Look, mom!” Reagan shouted back at her. “It’s Mr. Pike!”

“I see, baby.” Boy, did she. The larger than life image had Pike staring down the camera with his bandmates. Badass. Tough. Beautiful.

“Which one is he?” Devon asked, following her gaze.

“The blond.”

“Whoa,” he said low enough for the kids not to hear. “You had that guy over for pizza and managed keep your clothes on? You have more restraint than I do.”

He had no idea. “I have no interest in being a groupie.”

“Can I be one?”

She shoved his shoulder. “You’re such a tramp. I’m so telling Hunter when he gets back in town.”

“Tell him. He’d agree. But seriously, is the guy a jerk? He looks like he has high potential to be an egomaniac. I don’t want that kind of guy around my baby sister and niece.”

She frowned and dragged her eyes away from the picture. “Oh, he’s got an ego, all right. He’s entirely inappropriate most of the time and a shameless flirt. But I wouldn’t say he’s a jerk. He’s kind of, I don’t know, weird and manic and…funny.”

Devon tipped up the bill of his hat, eyeing her with a sly smile. “Oh, so we have a mad crush then?”

“What? No.”

“Oak, you’re here in the Texas heat at a hard rock festival. You don’t even know these bands. And a few weeks ago, when I asked if you wanted to take Reagan to see that 80s cover band, you told me she was too young for concerts.”

Oakley crossed her arms. “Rae has since proven her maturity.”

He smirked. “Bull. Shit. You’ve got the hots for this guy.”

“He’s not my type.”

Dev shook his head and draped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close so the kids couldn’t hear. “Come on, don’t freak out about it. You work too hard and spend too much time alone. This could be good for you.”

“An ill-advised hookup with a drummer who will drop me as soon as he gets bored could be good for me?”

“Exactly. Look, I know I’m your brother and shouldn’t be saying this, but there’s nothing wrong with a finding yourself a hot, temporary fuck buddy.”

“Dev!”

He laughed. “Oh, don’t be such a prude. I mean, yes, you’re right. The guy’s probably not boyfriend material. But you’re a grown woman and deserve some fun. You know we’re always happy to have Rae over if you need a date night.”

“I think you just flunked big brother school.”

He gave her shoulder a pat. “Okay, fine, want responsible brotherly advice? Use a condom. And don’t let him take video.”

She poked him in the ribs. But before she could respond to his comment, the lights on stage began to flash and the crowd surged forward, excitement like a contagion moving through them.

“Come on, mom! Let’s get closer.” Reagan grabbed her hand and dragged her with the flow of the crowd.

They’d already been pretty close to the stage, thanks to the special passes Pike had sent, but now they were only a ten or twelve rows of people back on the far left side of the stage. Bodies pressed close to them and she couldn’t help but get caught up in the fervor of the crowd.

She pushed onto her toes, knowing the drummer was almost always the first one to come out.

“Is that him?” Dev asked.

“Where?”

Devon pointed to the other end of the stage, and Oakley froze up the moment her eyes landed on Pike. Tight gray jeans, combat boots, and a black sleeveless T-shirt that showed off his ink. All swagger and sex and guyliner. Pike waltzed onto the stage like it’d been built just for him. He lifted his hand in greeting, earning screams from the audience, then hopped behind his drum kit. He put in his earpiece, raised his drumstick, and leaned over to his mic with a cocky smile. “Y’all ready for us, Dallas?”

The crowd erupted. Sound exploded from his drums.

And Oakley forgot to breathe.

Good. God.

The rest of the band ran onto the stage, adding guitars and vocals to Pike’s heavy rhythm, but Oakley barely heard the words.

All she could do was stare. Pike took command of the drums like he had a personal vendetta against them, banging hard and violent but with a sharp-edged grace that made it look like moving art. Every part of his body worked in perfect rhythm—muscles flexing, tattoos dancing, sweat flying—and the expression on his face wasn’t far from what she’d imagined he looked like in the throes of sex. He was taking the songs in his fists and making them his with every swing of his drumsticks.

Oakley swayed on her feet, the pounding beat taking on an erotic edge, vibrating though her and invading her like a drug.

He looked possessed.

He sounded amazing.

And she was toast.

She felt the urge ride up her throat and she couldn’t stop it. Her hands went up with the rest of the crowd and she screamed Pike’s name like a goddamned groupie.

Fucking. Toast.

Blurb

For readers of Shannon Stacey and Susan Mallery, the heartfelt new Briarwood series begins with a tale of forbidden love, broken promises, and second chances.

Growing up in Eastbridge, Connecticut, Carolyn Rivington was a young debutante who did whatever her parents asked. So when her father demanded that she break things off with the boy from the wrong side of the tracks or else, she did. Now Carolyn’s family is deep in debt. She’s no longer a member of the Briarwood Golf and Yacht Club, she’s an employee. And the tanned, tattooed, dangerously handsome stranger who saunters into her lobby isn’t just her new boss . . . he’s also her first love.

The last time he saw Carolyn, Jake Gaffney was in the back of a police cruiser, handcuffed and humiliated. But seeing her again stirs other memories: a blanket on the beach, the moon above their heads, and the most expensive bottle of wine he could afford. Now the tables have turned. As a real-estate magnate and Briarwood’s new owner, Jake doesn’t have to answer to anyone. But now that he’s back home, he’s finding it hard to live down his old reputation.

Before they can move forward, Jake and Carolyn must face their pasts. But it’ll take more than sizzling chemistry for them to heal old wounds and return to the love they once shared.

EXCERPT

The conference room was bustling when she arrived. After grabbing a cup of coffee from the sideboard, she took a seat at the enormous table in the center of the room, next to Eric Lefoute, the head chef of Waves, the club’s restaurant. Unsurprisingly, the handsome Frenchman was scowling. Eric hated answering to authority and made no bones about the fact that attending such a meeting was going to take away from the prep time he needed for this afternoon’s luncheon.

Sinking back into one of the slightly worn but still functional chairs, she glanced around and took a bracing sip of black coffee. Everyone was seated now, impatiently waiting for the new owner to appear. Orwell Tippett, the athletics director, tapped a pen over and over again on his notepad. Even Summer Lawrence, the spa manager who’d found a seat on Carolyn’s other side, looked less-than-Zen as she twisted her straight, light brown ponytail into a tight corkscrew.

Summer leaned over to whisper in her ear. “What kind of changes do you think the new owner will make?”

Carolyn shrugged. “I’m not sure. We’ll have to wait and see.”

“Do you think everyone will get fired?”

“God, I hope not.”

Getting canned was her biggest worry right now. Despite the fact that members and staff seemed to like her—both personally and professionally—her family’s reputation and the fact that she was the new kid on the block both weighed against her. Now that the family fortune was decimated and the Rivington name was mud, it didn’t matter a whit that her maternal great-grandfather had been one of the club’s original investors.

Just as everyone’s anxiety was reaching a fever pitch, the door to the conference room opened. Her heart skipped a beat just before Richard stepped inside. Beside her, Eric emitted a sharp breath. He was just as worried as anyone else about the changes that might come.

She’d almost collected herself before he stepped in.

Him.

Tattoo Guy.

Everything kind of slipped sideways for a minute while she sat there, barely breathing. He belonged here, didn’t he? And she’d tried to kick him out! It was impossible for this day to get worse.

And then it did.

He removed his sunglasses, and familiar deep-blue eyes swept the room, sizing up everything and everyone. When his gaze finally met hers, his lips curled into the merest hint of a smile and his eyes narrowed.

“Hello, everyone,” he said in a deep voice. “I’m Jacob Gaffney, Briarwood’s new owner.”

At that moment, her heart stopped. Actually stopped, just like her dad’s had last week when he’d suffered a massive heart attack brought on by the huge amount of stress he was under. But Carolyn wasn’t having a heart attack, because her organ kick-started up almost immediately.

Jake.

It had been the best summer of her life—until everything had come crashing down. As she stared at him, trying to morph these new, hard, masculine features onto the boy she knew, Jake stared back. A complicated mix of emotion passed over his face—awareness, desire.

Disgust.

Sure that her cheeks were turning a furious crimson, she looked down at her fingers, now twisting in her lap. For a long time, she’d put up a wall to stop the ache, telling herself it was for the best. That she had been too young. Too inexperienced. But she was just fooling herself. Regret, sadness, and not for the first time, the intense desire for a do-over coursed through her in a wave of emotion. But in life, there were no do-overs, were there?

This hardened, transformed-to-the-point-of-unrecognizability Jake wasn’t going to give her one. Why would he, considering what she and her family had done?

Jake was now introducing himself and laying out the game plan for the staff for the next couple of weeks. The words, the room, even the walls were a blur. She was screwed, utterly and completely.

Because as soon as Jake got her alone, he was going to fire her ass, and then she’d be back where she started: a former socialite with crippling debt and a family on the brink of collapse.

Not that Jake would care, given that the last time she’d seen him, he’d been handcuffed in the back of a police car.

And her father was the one who’d put him there.

working at a Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault program and then later a program
for children with severe emotional and mental health issues. Her former clients
and their stories continue to influence every aspect of her writing.
When not writing (or being tortured with all manner of beauty products at the hand of
her very imaginative and extremely girly daughter), she is eating chocolate,
watching reality television that could rot your brain and reading a smutty
novel or two.
A. Meredith is represented by Michelle Johnson with the Inklings Literary Agency.
