Lying in Wait by Laurel Ostiguy…New Release Spotlight & Excerpt

Synopsis:

Could Laura’s attempt to rebuild an entire campus be the reason for her destroyed relationships?

Abigail and Bree made it through their freshman year with the help of their devoted best friend, Laura Chase.

Only wanting to help her friends and her community, Laura lands a job at the college radio station as the first female DJ in over a decade. But even the best of intentions can come with a price. As Laura attempts to bring her friends peace, she uncovers further lies and deceptions. Could a costly cover-up hurt her friends even more than the Campus Creeper did?

What Laura doesn’t know is that, while she has been faithfully watching out for others, someone has finally noticed her. Will Laura’s new romance be the root cause of a divided campus, or will her alliances bring together a university that has lived in fear for over a year?

Join Laura and her friends at Onondaga State University as they wash their hands of their unforgettable freshman year and enter their sophomore year a bit wiser and with something to prove.

Excerpt:

“Can I ask what you said to her tonight?”

“I asked her to leave me alone. I’m trying to do something good, and I can’t have them getting in the way,” she whispers.

“I’m proud of you for speaking up for yourself. I’m sorry if I’m the root cause.”

She releases a heavy sigh. “You’re not. But where were you tonight…at the party?”

“I saw you through the crowd and was coming to say hello. I was struck by what unfolded in front of me and figured the last person either of you needed coming onto the scene was me.”

“It all comes back to you,” she whispers.

He props himself up on one arm, glaring at her through the darkness. “Does it? Because, so far, I’m not feeling it at all.”

In confusion, Laura replies, “Not feeling it at all? I don’t know what…”

“What I mean is, if it all comes back to me, then why am I the one sleeping alone every night?”

“I didn’t know you were,” she says as she swallows hard.

“Of course you did,” he quips.

Colin.”

“Laura.”

Feeling feisty, Laura jabs back, “No, I didn’t know that. I just know you’re not sleeping with me.”

“Ha,” he growls. “You’re blaming me?”

Regretting her words, she mumbles, “No, of course not.”

But he isn’t going to let her off easily. “So, Spring Fling, I should have taken advantage of you? And a few weeks ago…just screwed you to get it over with, out of my system? Is that the type of guy you want me to be?” She starts to answer, but he continues, “That’s not an actual question, Laura.”

If he could see her cheeks burning red, he’d know for certain, he’s caught her at her weakest.

Quickly, he gets up.

“Where are you going? Be careful.”

“Have I not tried, Laura?” he barks.

“What?”

He stands on the roof like a giant before her, yet his slumped shoulders tell her he feels small. “I know that this has not been ideal. Believe me, you don’t have to tell me twice. But, one minute, you’re in my bedroom, and then the next minute, you’re practically running away from me. Only I don’t hear a word from you in between. Nothing. Radio silence.”

Right when I thought this day, night, could not possibly get any worse. Add Colin to the list of people I can’t seem to get it right with. It’s a long list. Longer than it’s ever been for me. I’m barely hanging on. I’m in my own head and with a complete loss of words for the living and breathing in front of me. I have nothing left.

Laura watches in disbelief as Colin makes his way off of the roof and back into his house. She sits on the blanket, pulling her knees up to her chest, rocking slightly, like a child wishing away the pain. As she closes her eyes, a flash runs across her memory bank, back to the first time she met Colin. The passionate blows he bestowed upon the papers and his desk at the station. The sadness she felt in the room. He looked shattered, like the broken glass on the floor.

He carries the same expression tonight.

The hurt that we do to each other, the ones we claim to care for the most, but why? Is it because we are merely humans? Humans with expectations that cannot be fulfilled? How is it that we expect ourselves to be so perfect, without a flaw, yet we are surprised when that is all we are? Flawed.

Pan by Gina Maxwell…. Release Day Event

✨ 💚 ✨ PAN, a Neverland Novel is LIVE!!! ✨ 💚 ✨

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Gina L. Maxwell, comes a brand-new series with a fresh twist on an old classic. Once upon a time, in Neverland, North Carolina–I fell in love. I was twelve when Peter first climbed up to my balcony. Thirteen when I sneaked out to see him at the School for Lost Boys. Seventeen when his touch made me fly, And eighteen when his words made me cry. We were magnetic, drawn to each other from that very first night, and what I thought would be forever. But when it came time for me to leave, he wouldn’t come with, so I left town with a map for my future and a shattered heart. Ten years later, I’ve returned to Neverland, hoping to find a man in place of the boy. Peter was partially right, growing up is no fun. After quitting my fancy career that sucked the magic out of life, I’m now organizing the fundraiser of the year. In a move that could make or break the event and my new company, I’ve hired Peter, master mechanic and owner of LB Automotive, to help me pull this off–trusting him to rebuild a classic car for the auction that could help hundreds of foster kids in need. I thought I was prepared, but the boy who refused to leave is now a man hell-bent on getting me to stay, and as sparks fly between us, that undeniable fire flares back to life, deeper and hotter than ever. But that ripped body doesn’t mean Peter’s matured enough to make us or this event work, and not everyone in Neverland is happy about my return. Not every wound heals. Not every heart can be fixed. Not every boy grows up. And after all this time, the love we found might be lost to us again…this time, forever. *Pan is an adult contemporary romance retelling of Peter Pan, complete with Wendy, Hook, Tink, and all the Lost Boys. There are no fantasy elements in this world, other than the “magic” that happens between the sheets.

Prologue

Molly Boyd clamped her teeth together to keep them from chattering and hunched into a tighter ball in an effort to keep warm, but it didn’t help. She was cold all the way to her bones, her sodden clothes sticking to her skin. A summer rainstorm pounded down outside the shelter of the culvert she huddled in—hiding from her ex-husband.

Shock kept advancing and retreating, trapping her in an emotional fog. She’d never imagined she would end up like this. Not even after everything she and Carter had been through.

The left side of her face throbbed. Her cheek was bruised, her eye swelling slightly, and her lip burned where Carter had backhanded her. Her bare feet stung from the scratches she’d sustained in her flight to this lonely culvert at the side of the road.

All of it was eclipsed by the pain in her heart.

She closed her eyes, fought to hold off the memory of him breaking into the house and coming at her with that terrifying, predatory expression on his face. The memory of escaping the house, slamming that branch over his back and running for her life through the darkened woods.

Tears threatened. She shook them off, refusing to give in. If she started crying now, she might never stop, and she had to stay alert because she was still in danger with Carter looking for her.

What am I going to do?

She shivered harder, tucked her knees up tight to her chest and leaned her forehead on them as she fought to keep from spiraling into the black pit of despair yawning at the edge of her consciousness. Jase was coming. She’d called him and he was coming. He would find her, help her, and he’d alerted the cops. He would make sure she was safe—even if it was from his former best friend.

At the faint sound of an approaching vehicle, her insides tightened in fear. She lifted her head, her gaze darting toward the road, dreading the moment the familiar black pickup came into view again. Carter had driven up and down this road earlier, shouting her name through his open window for endless minutes. He would never stop looking for her.

Headlights cut through the gloom. She turned her face away and squeezed her eyes shut, willing Carter away. The divorce papers had set him off, even though he must have known they were coming.

She sat perfectly still, heart hammering against her ribs as she waited, hardly daring to breathe lest the slightest motion give her hiding spot away.

“Moll?”

She flinched at the male voice all but drowned out by the thundering rain, her heart rocketing into her throat. Shit, she was trapped here. Carter was former Special Forces and the waterlogged ditch was too steep. She’d never be able to climb out and escape him if he found her this time.

“Moll. It’s Jase.”

Jase. The fear receded instantly, the cold inside her thawing under a tide of relief as she turned her head toward him. She trusted him. Trusted that he would protect her and keep her safe, no matter what.

He was wading toward her through the flooded ditch, a tall, strong silhouette, his jeans soaked to the knees. She couldn’t move, couldn’t call out. Her muscles were too weak and shaky to obey her.

Gathering her courage as he came nearer, she forced her gaze up to meet Jase’s. The instant their eyes connected, she almost lost the battle to keep the tears at bay.

Frowning in concern, he quickly climbed into the culvert and knelt down beside her. Before she could find her voice, he reached out and gently grasped her chin in his warm fingers. His jaw was tight, his aqua eyes burning with outrage. “Did he do this? Did he hit you?” he demanded, voice vibrating with horror and anger.

Molly’s fading composure crumbled. All the emotions she’d been holding back crashed over her like a dark wave, taking her under. She leaned toward him just as the dam broke.

Jase made a low sound and reached for her, wrapping his strong, warm arms around her as she laid her head on his shoulder. He ran a comforting hand up and down her back gently. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”

Just her heart, now shattered into a thousand jagged  pieces.

She shook her head, her entire body trembling while she choked back the sobs trying to claw their way free of her throat, the humiliation all but strangling her. This was a nightmare. Only she wasn’t dreaming.

“All right, let’s get you out of here.” Jase slid one arm beneath her knees and lifted her, keeping her close to him as he carried her out of the culvert and through the water-filled ditch.

Molly ducked her head against the pelting rain and curled into him. She didn’t know what to say. Was ashamed to tell him what had happened.

“I’m gonna boost you up, then come right behind you.” He lifted her toward the steeply sloping side and helped her scramble over the edge before climbing up the side. Before she could even get to her feet, he scooped her up again, ignoring her mumbled protest as he strode for his truck, parked close by at the edge of the road.

Molly curled against him, still trying to come to terms with everything that had happened. As well as something…something that was still happening inside her right now.

Jase opened the front passenger door and carefully placed her on the leather seat. The interior was warm. Almost hot compared to outside.

“Hang tight.” He disappeared for a moment, opened the rear door to grab something and came back with a jacket. He tucked it around her, did up her seatbelt because her hands were still shaking and shut the door. Once he had climbed into the driver’s seat, he cranked the heat to high and reached over to aim the vents at her.

Molly sighed in relief as the warm air flowed over her. The numbness was retreating, leaving a sapping exhaustion in its wake.

Still leaning toward her, Jase reached up to stroke her wet hair away from her face, his eyes worried. “Moll, do you need to go to the hospital?”

“N-no. I’m okay.” You’re not. And you’ll never be okay again.

“What happened?” he asked, turning the truck in a tight circle and starting back up the road.

She huddled beneath his jacket and told him about Carter breaking into the house and attacking her in as few words as possible, her voice hitching due to the little gasps still jarring her lungs.

Jase was silent as she finished, his stubbled jaw clenched tight. He shook his golden-brown head, and a deep, terrible shame engulfed her, almost worse than the pain of Carter hitting her.

But there was more to her story. So much more. She didn’t want to hide the rest from him and had intended to tell everyone anyway. Just not like this.

“And it gets worse,” she added, her voice barely above a whisper.

He looked over at her sharply.

She didn’t speak for a long moment, staring out the windshield into the gloom. “I’m pregnant,” she finally said, her voice breaking.

Book Blurb:

Imogen

There is no way we can still love and cherish one and other.

When I married Theo Walsh, the rough, bearded townie who worked construction on my family’s summer house, I’d found my happily ever after.

That was before the fighting.
Before the jealousy.
Before the infertility.

We’ll be divorced long before death does us part.

But to secure my place in the family dynasty, there is just one more hoop I have to jump through. And I need him to do it.

Faking the marriage we once thrived in will gut me.
Especially with the secret I’m carrying.

Theo

I would have sacrificed for her until the end of time.

My job.
My home.
My happiness.

I’d given it all up to marry her. That’s how much I loved Imogen Weston, the daughter to one of the world’s richest families.

From the day we met, I’d done nothing but try to live up to the man she expected to be with. And now, I was done.

Sure, I’d complete this one final ask of hers, even if it destroyed me.

But I’ve made her promise the one thing that might save me. She swore that after she got everything she ever wanted, she wouldn’t look back.

I made my wife vow to leave me forever.

Chapter 1

Theo

I slept with my wife on our first date.

I’m not revealing this to brag or boast, or for you to infer anything from either of our personalities. It was just the simple fact that I knew from that first chance meeting, deep in my bones, that she would be the woman I’d spend the rest of my life with.

Honestly, I was never the kind of guy to get naked with a woman that quickly. If I were going for romance, which in Imogen Weston’s, the future Imogen Walsh, case I should have been … I would have laid out the red carpet. Flowers, picnics on the beach, candles, and gazing at the stars … my definition of dating was something out of a Nicholas Sparks’ novel. It’s just how you did things if you wanted to impress a woman.

We Shouldn’t by Vi Keeland…Release Day Event

WeShouldnt_Title

A Standalone Contemporary Romance

#1 New York Times Bestselling Author Vi Keeland

we shouldn't live now square

SYNOPSIS:

Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning.

I was late for the first day at my new job—a job I’d now have to compete for even though I’d already worked eight years to earn it, because of an unexpected merger.

While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons.

She’d ticketed a long line of cars—except for the Audi parked in front of me, which happened to be the same make and model as mine.

Annoyed, I decided to regift my ticket to the car that had evaded a fine. Chances were, the owner would pay it and be none the wiser.

Except, I accidentally broke the windshield wiper while slipping the ticket onto the car’s window.

Seriously, my day couldn’t get any worse.

Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the elevator. We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies.

You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity.

His heated stare left me flushed when I stepped off the elevator.

Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Or so I thought.

Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competition.

The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heated stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction. It was because he’d seen me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival.

There’s a fine line between love and hate—and we shouldn’t cross it.

We shouldn’t—but straddling that line could be so much fun.

Cover & Trailer Reveal…Only Ever You by Siobhan Davis

OEY_CTR.jpg

He’s the hot-as-sin rocker hiding a secret that would devastate his fans. She’s the only girl he’s ever loved, but keeping her safe means he had to walk away…

Only Ever You, an all-new second chance standalone from USA Today bestselling author Siobhan Davis is coming February 28th, and we have the sexy new cover for you!

OnlyEverYou_ecover.jpg

RYDER

My entire life is a lie, propelled by one wrong decision that altered my fate.

If fans knew the truth, they’d run away screaming. But all they see is Ryder Stone, moody guitarist and lead singer of Torment, and a potential notch on their bedpost.

Only two people know who I really am. My manager has a vested interest in keeping my secret, and the girl I was forced to leave behind doesn’t even know the true extent of my shame.

Losing Zeta is both my biggest regret and my proudest moment. But she was the glue keeping me together, and I’m struggling to survive without her. Especially when the demons from my past continue to haunt me and the threat of disclosure is ever present.

When she reappears in my life, this time, I’m too weak to push her away.

Her love has the power to save me.

Mine has the power to destroy her.

ZETA

I’ve worked hard to forget my past. To rise above my messed-up childhood and make something of myself; however, there’s no forgetting him.

Ryder’s gorgeous face and drool-worthy body are plastered over tabloids and TV screens, reminding me I’m still in love with the boy who captured my heart in juvie.

When he failed me, I thought I’d never again experience such heart-crushing pain. But watching him fall out of clubs with a succession of different girls renews the agony, resurrecting countless unanswered questions.

Now my boss has sent me to interview him. It’s a massive scoop for the magazine, and turning it down would kill my career. So, I delude myself into thinking I can handle this.

Perhaps this is the closure I need to finally move on.

Except I’m terrified nothing has changed and one look into those soulful eyes will suck me in again.

Ryder almost destroyed me last time. This time, he could ruin me forever.

I’m startled out of my thoughts when my brother jumps up and shouts a bunch of profane nonsense, hands flailing like he’s trying to swim on land, or approximate the chicken dance while on an LSD trip.

“You can’t do this! It’s absolute bullshit!” Armstrong yells.

I look around the table, trying to piece together what I missed.

“I’m sorry, Armstrong. I know this is a shock, but we feel it’s in the company’s best interest to put Lincoln at the helm during this transitional stage,” G-mom says firmly.

At the helm? I look to G-mom who’s busy not looking at me.

Armstrong jabs at finger at himself. “But I’m the one who’s put in all the time here! I deserve to run the company! Lincoln doesn’t know the first thing about Moorehead. All he knows how to do is dig wells and forage for food in the wilderness. How are those valuable assets here?” He turns his attention to our mother. “Did you know about this? How can you let this happen? Look at him. How can that be the face of our company? He looks like he crawled out of a gutter and mugged a twenty-year-old college kid on a bender. How is this better for our bottom line?”

My mother clasps her hands in front of her. “I’m sorry, Armstrong, but this decision wasn’t mine to make. I know this is hard for you, but your grandmother and fath—”

Armstrong stomps his foot, exactly as a toddler would. “The company is mine! Lincoln can’t have it!”

I raise a hand, half to quiet my brother and also to find out what the freaking deal is. “Whoa, let’s back this bus up.  Can someone explain what’s going on?”

“You’ve been appointed as the CEO of Moorehead Media, according to the will,” Christophe—no R, because that would make it far too pedestrian a name—my father’s lawyer says.

I’m working on trying to remain calm as I address my grandmother. “You didn’t say anything about me being CEO. You said you needed my help.”

“Running the company, yes,” she says through a practiced, stiff smile.

It’s her warning face, but seriously, when she said she needed my help for a few months I figured it meant I’d be keeping Armstrong in line while she sorted out who was going to take over the company, which I realize now was a stupid assumption.

“I didn’t think that meant CEO. How am I going to run a company with this dickhead on staff?” I motion to my brother.

“The name calling is unnecessary,” G-mom replies.

“Lincoln’s not even part of this family! He hasn’t attended one event in the past five years except for Dad’s funeral. He didn’t bother coming to my wedding and now he’s going to run the company? How is that fair?”

I snort. “Your wedding was an expensive joke.”

He crosses his arms over his chest. “I was set up. Amalie had cold feet and made me out to look like the bad guy.”

The woman beside him shoots him disgusted look.

Armstrong clears his throat and tugs at his collar. “My wedding is not the real issue. The point is that you’ve never involved yourself in any part of this family and now you think you can come in and take over. I will not stand by and let this happen!” He keeps jabbing his finger at me, as if he’s engaged in a finger sword fight.

I lean back in my chair and lace my fingers behind my neck. Armstrong has always been reactive. And self-absorbed. For a while it seemed like he finally had it together—back when he was engaged. But ever since that fiasco of a wedding he seems to have come completely unglued. Again. But worse this time. “Someone needs a timeout.”

Reckless by Ciana Stone…Blog Tour with Excerpt

Today we have the blog tour of RECKLESS by Ciana Stone! Check it out and be sure to grab your copy today!

Title: RECKLESS

Author: Ciana Stone

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About RECKLESS:

Morgan Windwalker Alexander considered herself to be a most fortunate woman. She loves the ranch where she and her husband, Cord, live and  raised their family. She loves her work as a large animal vet and is proud of what Cord has accomplished in his career in Mechatronics.

She couldn’t and wouldn’t ask for more. As far as she is concerned, at 42, she has it all.

Then Cord gets a call in the middle of the night and from that moment, things start to change. Her once perfect husband, a man who is methodical in all he does, displays a recklessness she finds troubling. Cracks start to appear in her perfect life, revealing lies and betrayals she didn’t want to believe were possible.

Can she keep the cracks from multiplying, keep all the pieces intact, or is she fighting a losing battle?   Can she patch the wounds in her life or will this reckless path Cord is on shatter their one perfect life completely?

 Excerpt

Cotton Creek, Texas

Morgan stretched and rubbed the back of her neck. She should’ve taken Cord’s advice and gone back to bed. But as it was, they had a new foal that was doing fine, as was the mare and Morgan had managed to enter half a month’s receipts into the expense spreadsheet for the ranch.

She looked down at the notepad beside the keyboard. Her “to-do,” and “don’t forget to do” lists. She would wait on diving into those. Her stomach was grumbling, and the cup of coffee on the desk had long grown cold.

With a mental reminder to add coffee to the shopping list, she went downstairs and poured herself a fresh cup. As she set about looking in the refrigerator for something to fix for breakfast, she thought about Cord’s trip. It didn’t make a lot of sense that this trip would bother her. He’d done more traveling in the last six or seven years than in all the rest of the time they’d been together, and it had never troubled her.

She missed him, but she’d never been uneasy being at home without him. It was silly. Why was she making a big deal out of it now? After all the lectures she’d given her children over the years on being independent, she found it ironic that right now she was acting like the least independent member of the family.

Those thoughts stayed with her as she wandered into the family room and flopped down on the couch. Maybe this was nothing more than another facet of her self-identity issues. Joe and Myrtle had fussed at her about it for years. Regardless of her own accomplishments, she still viewed herself as more of an extension of Cord.

Perhaps it had something to do with her childhood, losing both parents at such a young age. Or maybe she was simply one of those women who couldn’t stand alone.

No, she wasn’t that insecure. She loved spending every moment she could with Cord and their children, but she’d always needed a good deal of alone time, and she knew he was the same. Moreover, his career sometimes demanded that he be away from her. There were blocks of time in the installation and training process that required his presence.

She’d never make him feel guilty for that. Morgan was proud of Cord and all he’d accomplished. She wanted him to enjoy every moment of his career and his life. After all, if you didn’t do what you love and love what you did, then you were wasting your life. At least that was her way of looking at it. Kind of like spending your life with the right person.

Morgan now knew a lot of people in Cotton Creek, thanks to having lived here all her married life. But she called very few people friends. Most women were completely disinterested in what she did. She understood that. Having friendships without common interests was hard.

Most of the people who did share her interests were men, and she’d always been careful about establishing clear-cut boundaries. Morgan wasn’t conceited, but she wasn’t dishonest. She knew she was attractive, and attractive women drew attention from men.

She’d had her share of attention, turned down a lot of offers and gotten downright nasty over unwelcome overtures. Morgan would talk animal care, breeding, and ranching until the cows came home, but she wouldn’t cheat on Cord.Ever.

When she said those wedding vows, she meant them and in her way of viewing the world, if your word wasn’t something that could be trusted as surely as the rise of the sun, then you weren’t worth much as a human being.

Every day she offered her thanks to the Universe and whatever powers resided within its vastness that she’d been lucky enough to fall in love with a man who shared her views, and a man she could trust to be faithful to her.

A memory surfaced, one that always reminded her of how special her marriage and her man were.

Saturday night was typically reserved for family cookouts, sitting around the fire pit talking and generally relaxing. This Saturday, however, Morgan and Cord were on their way to the Honky Tonk Angels Bar and Grille, for a wedding reception.

Didn’t Cody look beautiful?”Morgan asked as they drove along.

Uh, yeah. She looked like Cody.”

Morgan blew a raspberry. I thought she looked amazing. And she and Jax look so happy.”

Yeah, they did. I’m surprised how well Billy and Stella accepted Jax.”

Why?”

Well, he is a good bit older than Cody.”

So? There’s no age restriction on love.”

No, I don’t guess so. Still, I thought they’d be less than thrilled. Of course, Cody has always been strong-minded. It’s hard to deter her once she sets a course. She kind of reminds me of another woman I know.”

Oh? Do I know her?”

Smart ass,”he gave her a smile. And in case I didn’t say it, you look beautiful.”

Sweet talker,”she replied and reached over to give his leg a squeeze. That and a slow dance will do it.”

Yeah? I’m gonna get lucky?”

Hmm, I’m thinking midnight swim lucky.”

Oh, baby, let’s rip through this reception and get on to the good stuff.”

Morgan laughed. Hell no. This is my first night out in—in I don’t know when. We’re going to enjoy it. Have a drink, do some dancing and catch up with people we haven’t seen in a while.”

Cord groaned dramatically. Do we have to?”

If you want to get lucky.”

He laughed at the teasing threat. Fine, if I must.”

Morgan looked around as they drove through town. Things have changed quite a bit since the big oil boom. Do you regret not selling the mineral and oil rights on our ranch?”

Not for one second.”

That’s my man.”She was pleased he’d turned down all offers. Perhaps it was her Native heritage, her dislike of the power big oil seemed to wield, or the fact that the county was not exploring alternate energy sources the way it should, but whatever the case, had the decision been hers alone, she’d have said no in a red hot second.

It might be wise not to get into much of a discussion on the merits of oil,”Cord suggested. Seeing as how Jax works for the company.”

I know, and I wouldn’t start anything. Wow, the parking lot is already almost full. Let’s park close to the road in case we leave earlier than others we can get out easier.”

Sounds like a plan.”

The place was packed. They first spoke with the Sweet family, wished Cody and Jax happiness and then got out of the way so others behind them could offer well wishes. Cord spotted JD Weathers and his wife, Jolene, and steered Morgan in their direction. Morgan and Jolene became friends not long after Jo and JD were married and as it turned out, they were distant relatives. Their great-great-grandfathers had been brothers.

JD, how’s it goin?”Cord greeted JD.

Hey, Cord. Good to see you. Doing just fine.”

Glad to hear that. Jolene, how’re things with you?”

Can’t complain. Hi, Morgan.”

Say, I hear you have a hell of a stallion,”JD remarked.

Yes, we’re selling semen, and I’m betting there are going to be impressive results. If you’re interested, I’ll email you all the stats.”

I’d like that.”

Consider it done.”

Thanks.”JD turned his attention to Cord. How’re things in your business?”

Busy. By the way, I heard the twins both got scholarships. Congratulations.”

Thanks. They’re pretty excited.”

Hell, of a duo, those two. Quarterback and running back. Hard to beat.”

As talk turned to football, Jolene took Morgan’s arm. Want to grab some beers while they talk sports?”

Absolutely.”

It took a good ten minutes to get the beer and head back to Cord and JD. By then music had started, and people were starting to get on the dance floor. Morgan and Jolene inched their way through the crowd, and after a minute, Morgan spotted the men. They weren’t alone. Two women were standing with them.

Color me a jealous wife, but do you ever get tired of women hitting on your man?”Jolene asked.

Morgan shrugged. As long as he’s telling them to take a hike, I’m good.”

You know, you’re right. Come on.”Jolene shouldered her way to where the men stood talking.

Here ya go,”Jolene cut in front of the woman beside JD and offered him a mug.

Thanks, babe.”He accepted the beer and stepped aside so she could slide in beside him.

Morgan smiled at Jolene and stepped up beside Cord. Here’s your beer.”She handed Cord a mug and then smiled at the woman beside him. Hi, I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Morgan Windwalker, Cord’s wife.”

Oh, right. The Indian.”

Yep, but don’t worry, like Jolene, I gave up scalping a few years back. And you are?”

The woman sniffed and gave an eye roll. Cord and I go way back.”She took a step closer to Cord and looked up at him with an ‘I’m gonna eat you alive’ predatory expression. Isn’t that right? Oh, wait, you didn’t tell her about us? Cord, you’re still the bad boy, aren’t you?”

Yeah, that’s me, and actually, Danielle, I did tell Morgan about you.”He looked at Morgan. You remember, don’t you? That girl I dated for a minute one summer while I was in college?”

Oh, that one,”Morgan replied and cut Danielle a look. Yeah, I remember. Well, I’m glad I finally got to put a face to a name.”She looked at the other woman. And you are?”

Sorry I wasted my time.”The woman flounced off, and after a moment, Danielle did the same.

Well, that was nice,”Morgan said and raised her mug. To Cody and Jax. May the happiness they feel today, last a lifetime.”

Everyone clicked mugs and Cord leaned down to kiss her on the cheek. You’re not pissed are you?”

Not unless you’re going home with Danielle.”

Not a chance. I’ve never met a woman who could compete with you.”

Oh, you’re definitely getting lucky tonight.”

Danielle and the otherwoman, Christine, were disappointed that night when Cord didn’t respond to their advances. It’d made Morgan feel proud and lucky. She’d married the man of her dreams and still felt that way about him. To have those feelings returned was what every woman dreamed about.

She didn’t know anyone more fortunate than herself. As her eyes fell on a framed picture of Cord and their son, Trevor, she smiled. Trevor favored his father. The same tall, lean build, dark hair and eyes that were deep wells of warm autumn brown, with just a hint of copper.

Aside from good looks, he was one of the most interesting people she’d ever known, even if he was her son. The last time she spoke with Trevor he was somewhere in Arizona, still riding with Cord’s oldest friend, Big Jeff who was a lifelong biker.

If she were honest, Morgan would admit that she wasn’t entirely comfortable with that situation. Despite what she said to Cord just last night, she’d feel better if Trevor was home, or safely enrolled in college.

She laughed to herself. Trevor had obviously taken her talks about independence seriously. And he’d inherited his father’s ability to negotiate. He’d take a year to see the country, and then he’d start college. In the end, she and Cord had given in, and so far,Trevor had demonstrated good sense in his adventure.

Cable, their daughter, was equally independent. What a stunning woman she’d grown to be. Dark-haired like her parents, but with Morgan’s blue eyes, she was a woman who could stop traffic. And brains to boot. Morgan had no doubt that Cable would prove to the world she was a force to be reckoned with.

She was presently in Spain with the wife of Cord’s business partner. Maria was originally from Spain and Cable had begged to go for the last two years. This year Morgan and Cord said yes.

Morgan checked the time. It was mid-morning in Spain, which meant Cable would be awake. She picked up her phone and called Cable’s cell phone.

“What in the world are you doing up at this time?”Cable asked in lieu of a greeting.

“Hey to you, too.”Morgan smiled. “What’s up?”

“Mom, I wish you would come over for a few days. It’s gorgeous here. We spent three days in Valencia and words don’t do it justice.”

“I got the images you texted, and it looks amazing. I’m happy you’re having a good time. What’s next on the agenda?”

“The girls I met? I told you about them, remember?”

“Yes, the ones from New York.”

“Right. Well, they invited me to go to Italy with them. The Italian Riviera, Mom.”

“Hmm, warm beaches and hot guys. What’s not to love?”

“Exactly.”

“So, when do you leave?”

“This afternoon.”

“Sounds like fun. Enjoy every minute of it.”

“I am. Thanks, Mom. You and Dad. I know this is costing a bundle and I’m really grateful.”

“Girl, you’ve earned it. We’re proud of you, and it’s high time you got a chance to do something exciting. Now, go have fun and call me and tell me all about the warm sand.”

“And hot men.”

“Especially that. I love you.”

“I love you. Bye, Mom.”

“Bye baby.”

Morgan smiled, pushed herself up and headed out of the back door, accompanied by Ghost. Her veterinarian office was in a separate building near the main barn which was a good half mile from the house. She could have taken one of the ATV’s from the garage, but she’d made the walk so many times she could do it in her sleep.

Besides, the predawn hours of the day were some of her favorites. The air was still a bit moist, and there was just a hint of cool. The sky had lightened just enough to see the silhouettes of the tree branches and leaves against the sky.

Morgan gave silent thanks for the beauty around her. She loved their home and considered herself one of the luckiest people alive. There was no one she’d trade places with because as far as she was concerned, she had a perfect life.

Author Bio

Fiona Tulle has always had a love for writing, from a very young age. She uses her words as an escape from the day to day, getting lost in her characters’ worlds. When not writing she can be found curled up with her pups, a cup of coffee, reading her favorite books in the sunshine of Northeast Florida.
