The Chosen One is the 4th book in Siobhan’s Alinthia series and must be read after books 1 thru 3.

Siobhan has definitely made me a fan of two genres that I did not read til starting this series last year – reverse harem and sci-fi and she has combined both of those into this series.

The previous three books have definitely had the perfect blend of the romance, getting to know each of the characters along with the sci-fi aspect and Alinthia/Tori’s purpose, to destroy General Arantu and save Earth. This book definitely delved more into the relationships between Alinthia and her four protectors and strengthening that bond.

I have to say, when I noticed this leaning more towards the romance aspect and not so much the sci-fi aspect, I thought I would be slightly let down. But not surprisingly, Siobhan was able to make the relationships between each of her four protectors just as enticing as the sic-fi part. But I think part of that driving force is that things aren’t all rainbows and unicorns with one of her protectors. And the bond between all four of her protectors is a key element in saving Earth.

Siobhan truly knows how to deliver each piece of this very enticing story perfectly. I love that she keeps her readers engrossed in every aspect of this story. The characters are very well written and intricate to the storyline – everything about them just adds another element to the story.

I cannot wait to see what happens in the final installment in this series.

Blog Tour-2.jpgExcerpt:

I head straight for the pickup counter, where I see my skinny vanilla latte waiting for me, my name written on the side of the cup in Stella’s familiar scrawl. Without hesitation I grab it, inhaling deeply before I take a sip. Just a tiny sip so I can savor it. I close my eyes for a second, maybe two, and when I open them, I find a guy standing there.

Watching me.

And he’s not just any guy. He’s cute. Wait, no. Not cute. He’s…hot. Dark hair. Blue eyes. Wearing a suit that fits him perfectly. I know just from looking at the fabric that it’s custom. Expensive.

He’s smiling at me. And I’m scowling at him in return because the caffeine hasn’t quite hit my bloodstream yet, so I’m not on top of my game.

“You looked like you were having a moment.” His voice is deep. Rich. His face…vaguely familiar?

I stand a little straighter. Take another sip of my coffee as I contemplate the man in front of me, because for some reason I still can’t come up with anything to say.

Listen, I always have something to say. But this guy. This gorgeous, well-dressed maybe-stranger, is leaving me a little…

Dumbstruck?

Huh.

“That moment you were just having. With your coffee,” he continues, gesturing at the cup I’m clutching in both of my hands, like it’s my baby. Which this morning—every morning—it is.

“She loves coffee,” Stella says from behind me.

Glancing over my shoulder, I give her a look, one that says shush.

“I can see that.” The amusement in his voice is obvious. He thinks it’s funny. The sacred moment I was having with my latte made him smile.

I wouldn’t mind coming up with other ways to make him smile.

Whoa. Where did that thought come from?

“What I want to know is, how did you get such special treatment?”

I blink at him like I’m an uncomprehending idiot. “Excuse me?”

“Well, I’ve been here for the last fifteen minutes. First, standing in line.” He gestures at the line of customers that trails out the door. “And now, waiting for my order.”

Guilt fills me. Just a tiny bit. Sweet Dreams Café is the most popular bakery and coffee shop in Carmel-by-the-Sea. All the tourists love it. All the locals love it too. It’s been in Stella’s family for generations.

“Yet you skip past the line, walk straight in here and grab your ready-made drink within a few seconds of your arrival. Do you have a Fast Pass?” A brow lifts, and I’m hit with a quiver. Like Cupid just drew back his bow and shot that arrow right in my heart.

Or perhaps that arrow struck me in, ahem, other places.

Who knew a brow lift could be so sexy?

The Accidental Girlfriend, an all-new hilarious romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart is available now!

THE ACCIDENTAL GIRLFRIEND - DRAFT1 (1)

Top Tip: Don’t put out an online ad offering your services as a fake date. Someone will take you up on it.

And it won’t just be for one night.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I ended up being Mason Jackson’s fake girlfriend.

He didn’t even want me to be. No—his sister was solely responsible for me being his date for his ten-year high school reunion.

Now, she’s responsible for telling his parents our relationship is real.

We have no choice. We have to act like this isn’t all a mistake, like it’s not all fake, like we’re totally, completely, utterly, head-over-heels in love with each other.

Simple, right?

Wrong.

Excerpt:

“I’ve seen you eat nothing but junk. Are you one of those irritating people who can eat what they want and put on no weight?”

“Okay, first.” I held up one finger. “You look like you could walk into the cast of the Avengers, so don’t come at me with that. Also, I run. Every day. And I don’t always eat junk.”

“You run?” His eyebrows shot up.

“I don’t know if I should be insulted or not.”

“No, I just—you don’t look like a runner.”

“And you don’t look like Chris Hemsworth, but here you are on my sofa looking like a dark-haired Norse god,” I shot back. “What’s your point?”

He held up his hands, fighting another laugh, one that made his eyes shine. “Hey, I have a physical job. I rarely get to the gym, but I’m always moving.”

“Have you ever worked behind a bar? I’m not exactly running a call center back there. It never stops sometimes.”

“Do I look like I mix cocktails?”

Doing what he’d done just minutes before, I took a long, hard look at him, from head to toe.

It was a mistake.

If I were a sloth, I wouldn’t just climb him like a tree; I’d hang off him for a nap, too.

Lord, he was hot.

Focus, Lauren.

“No,” I said. “You look like the lone wolf who waits for the cocktail-drinking girls to accidentally spill their drinks on your shoes.” I glanced at the time. “Speaking of, I have to go and make those cocktails.”

Mason grinned. “You want me to come and get hit on by drunk girls?”

“As someone who has no say in your life whatsoever, I don’t care what you do.” I stood up and looked at him over my shoulder. “As your fake girlfriend, I’m a bit of a tiger, so I wouldn’t.”

“I know.” He snorted, following me to the front door with his laptop tucked under his arm. “I’ve seen you play the possessive girlfriend. If this weren’t all fake, I would have been a little turned on.”

I locked the front door and tossed my hair over my shoulder. “Please. You were totally turned on.”

He said nothing as we headed for the stairs.

“You can say something. That was a joke.” I glanced at him, heat rushing to my cheeks.

His lips pulled into a smirk, eyes flashing. “I reserve the right to not respond.”

This was a funny and sweet romance from Emma Hart.

Something that I have to learn and actually enjoy from Emma Hart is that her romance stories are very easy, light and not full of drama or angst. I find her stories refreshing and very easy to read.

I am beginning to see more and more of the “fake date” trope pop up but don’t think I could see myself reading too many of these unless they fall into the romantic comedy genre.

Mason and Lauren were very adorable. They had the immediate attraction to one another but knew nothing more would come of their fake-date and even the follow up fake relationship.

I enjoyed all the interactions and dialogue amongst all the characters. It definitely helped keep the story light and easy.

Overall, I did enjoy this story. It was an easy read, funny with characters that felt authentic. So why not the a 5 star rating then?? While I enjoyed this book, it’s a book that I won’t remember the characters or plot 6 months down the line without reading the blurb again. Again – it wasn’t a terrible book, just not one what makes me scream “YES, I remember so much about that book.” So yea – the book was right down the middle perfect for me.

Excerpt:

I look up into his dark eyes. “This is a dangerous game of cat and mouse we’re playing.”

“More like a game of cat and bird,” he corrects.

I straighten my posture, my nipples grazing his hard chest. “And we all know how that turns out in the end. The cat eats the bird.”

Nine lightly scrapes his nails over my bare arms before pressing them into my skin. I gasp at the slight bite of pain. “No, the pretty bird swoops down from nowhere and sinks her sharp talons into the cat, marking him for life.”

There’s no sarcasm in his voice. I don’t know how to begin to process what it is he’s saying. It takes all of my concentration to get out my next few words.

“And…and then what?”

Nine picks me up off the floor in one quick motion, flipping me back onto the bed. He crawls over my body, hovering above me, pinning my wrists to the mattress. He grazes his teeth over the sensitive spot behind my ear. He lowers his voice to a deliciously deep rumble that has me vibrating with his every word.

“And then he eats her.”

N9ne is Kevin Clearwater’s book and is a standalone book in the King series. It can easily be read as a standalone but previous characters are mentioned knowing who they are does make the book more enjoyable.

N9ne is definitely the least dark book in this series and I think that has everything to do with who Kevin is. Yes, his past is ugly and what he endured definitely drove him to become the man is. Don’t get me wrong, there are some dark elements in this book, but they are not nearly like the others.

But what made me really enjoy this book was the journey – both Nine and Lenny’s. I would love to go into details, but as always, you have to read to see for yourself. N9ne is told in both POVs so we as the reader can easily understand these characters and their actions.

Frazier does what she does best – keeps the adrenaline and action/suspense alive in her books but also makes you laugh with the characters interactions. The one thing that I wish we had more of was the character development. I felt there were a few things that could have been fleshed out more and that instead of being told about certain aspects (Lenny’s anxiety), it was shown to us to make it all the more real.

Overall, Frazier delivers another great book in this series. I love that we get to see Preppy, King, Bear and others from Logan Beach and help bring it all full circle again.

T.M. enjoys writing what she calls sexy‘wrongside of the tracks romance’ with morally corrupt anti-heroes and ballsy heroines.

Her books have been described as raw, dark and gritty. Basically, what that means, is while some authors are great at describing a flower as it blooms, T.M. is better at describing it in the final stages of decay.

Release Day Blitz & Review…Love Letters to Molly by Devney Perry

Molly Alcott didn’t expect
to open her mailbox one summer morning and find an old letter stuffed between
bills and a supermarket flyer. Penned in familiar handwriting, dated over fifteen years ago, the letter was written to Molly after her first date with the man she’ll never forget.

Week after week, new letters appear. Each marks an event in the history of their epic love affair. Each heals a wound. Each holds the confession of the man who still owns Molly’s heart.

The letters are full of promise, hope and love, but truth be told, Molly wishes she could unread them all.

Because the man who wrote these letters is not the one sending them.

Letters to Molly is my first book by Devney Perry. And I have to say that the hype behind her lived up to what I anticipated.

This is the second book in the Maysen Jar series. I did not read the first book but I think it might have helped to have read it first to get a better understanding of the dynamics between all the characters. I had a general idea as I read and had no issues with the book overall, but I felt like something was missing for me as I read this book.

As I said, I can see why people love Devney and her books. The characters are well developed and the plot was relatable, raw and real. The plot was something that made this book stand out for me. The trials and tribulations that married couples go through and how sometimes we forget or lose ourselves in the marriage; we lose focus of why we took those vows.

Finn and Molly were amazing. I love that they own their faults and try to grow from that, both individually and as a couple. Their struggles to come to grips with things and their emotions were so real, it was impossible not to relate to them.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this book. So why not a five star book?? As I said, there was something missing for me when I was reading this book. Whether it be because I did not feel the dynamics between every character or that it be that while I loved the overall plot, I can easily say that this book doesn’t have that “WOW” factor that I have felt after reading other books that were similar, like this one. Don’t get me wrong, I truly enjoyed reading this one, but it just felt wrong to rate this a five star and not have those same feelings as I had with other books.

I definitely recommend this to anyone. It is honest, real and heartfelt.

Book description

Young widow Sofia Rodriquez has just accepted the position of greenhouse manager for Ava Dove’s booming herbal tea business. Sofia is delighted to have found a job that will make use of her gardening skills and allow her to spend time with her son, Noah, who has been diagnosed with Asperger’s. Adding to her joy is the charming farmhouse she’s renting on the edge of Dove Pond.

The only cloud on Sofia’s horizon is her next door neighbor, Jake, whose yard is a thorny jungle worthy of Sleeping Beauty. Soon enough, Sofia discovers that Jake himself is just as thorny and unpleasant as his yard.

After his fiancé left him, work-from-home IT whiz and game developer Jake Klaine has gone from Prince Charming to complete hermit. But Jake isn’t really alone; he’s living with a ghost: a (formerly) hairy man named Doyle who’s a fan of bad puns and who refuses to leave Jake’s bathtub. This is nothing new for Jake, as he’s been talking to ghosts since he was a boy. He finds real people harder to deal with, like the kid next door who won’t stop bugging him about the new game he’s developing.

Sofia and Jake know all too well that life isn’t a game. They’ve both lost the person they loved most. But under the watchful eye of the ghostly Doyle and Sofia’s new friend Ava, who has abilities of her own, Jake and Sofia decide to take a chance and let in an outsider. Soon they discover that, with a little magic, even the thorniest walls are no match for the innocent trust of a lonely child and the fierce determination of a woman wielding a razor-sharp pruner and a heart big enough to make even the most stubborn flower bloom.

My Review:

What a fun, heartwarming story this was!  Sofia and Jake are endearing characters both struggling through a rough point in life and probably wouldn’t have gotten together if it weren’t for a ghost.  Yes, you read that right.  A wig wearing ghost who loves to haunt in Jake’s bathtub.  But that ghost is on a mission and Jake and Sofia are the lucky recipients of his plan.

This story was sweet and dealt with very real life issues and I love it.  It’s also set in a town I would love to visit.

If you’re looking for a fun read to spend an afternoon with, this needs to be on your ereader!

Four Loves

Excerpt:

Sofia had never met anyone like her new boss, Ava Dove. Ava’s herbal tea business might be growing at an astounding rate but it was Ava’s knowledge of plants that intrigued Sofia. Ava spoke of the plants as if they were people, saying things like “Mint loves sunshine and Bach.” And “Rosemary may seem like a stiff, unyielding sort of plant, but she has a big heart.” If someone had heard Sofia saying anything like that, they would have called her crazy, but for some reason, when Ava said it, it made perfect sense.

And no one could say Ava didn’t know her plants. The greenhouses were filled with fat, happy, leafy plants. And when she walked down the aisles, it seemed as if the plants reached for her, wanting her attention.

It was weird, and yet so satisfyingly wonderful that Sofia found herself just accepting the fact that Ava loved her plants and they loved her back. If only all facets of life were that perfect and simple. In the meantime, Sofia was happy to learn what she could from her new boss and her wonderful greenhouses. The fresh scents made Sofia want to fill her lungs over and over, and the calmness of the space gave her the peace she’d been searching for since The Very Bad Day, while the flexible hours let her spend time with her son, Noah, whenever she wanted. This really is the perfect job.

When her cousin Juana had first suggested Sofia and Noah move from hot and crowded Orlando to quiet and peaceful Dove Pond, Sofia had been hesitant. At the time, she’d been in the middle of a messy, unresolved, painful divorce, and moving would have only complicated things. But Juana had persisted, which wasn’t surprising. Juana’s husband, Tony, said she didn’t know the word no, didn’t want to, and refused to hear it. So when Juana had repeatedly explained why Dove Pond was so perfect for Sofia, how the special education program at the elementary school Noah would be attending was amazing, the community welcoming and friendly, and the town itself “magical,” Sofia had found herself listening. And when the time had come, Sofia hadn’t thought twice—she’d packed up her and Noah’s things and moved here.

Of course she didn’t believe in magic, but she had to admit that so far, despite its slightly worn-out air, Dove Pond was casting a spell over her. She’d desperately needed peace and a place to get away, where she and Noah could heal and start fresh, and Dove Pond had delivered that and more. In fact, the second she’d put her foot outside her car and onto the pavement of Dove Pond’s historic downtown area, she’d felt as if she’d come home.

At first glance, the little town had seemed like every other small town in North Carolina, with two-story redbrick buildings lining an awning-festooned main street, charming tree-lined avenues with an impressive collection of large Queen Anne–style houses, and people more interested in the corn crop than in the sorry state of affairs in DC. But Dove Pond held surprises around every corner—treasures, really—each one a blessing for Sofia and Noah. And the first treasure had been Ava.

OTR Cover FINAL.png

On the Rocks, an all-new standalone contemporary romance by Kandi Steiner.

Noah Becker is nothing but trouble.

That’s what Mama told me when I was a kid, kicking his pew in church and giggling at the games we’d play. It’s what the town said when his father died and the Becker brothers went wild.

And it’s on repeat in my mind the day I walk into the whiskey distillery where he works to buy a wedding gift for my fiancé.

He’s trouble.

Dirty, sweaty, rude trouble.

No matter how many times I repeat it, I can’t escape Noah in our small Tennessee town. And the more I run into him, the more he infuriates me. Because he sees what no one else does.

He sees me—the real me.

The me I’m not sure I’m allowed to be.

I’m Ruby Grace Barnett, the mayor’s daughter. Soon to be a politician’s wife, just like Mama and Daddy always wanted. Soon to fulfill my family’s legacy, just like I always knew I would.

Until the boy everyone warned me about makes me question everything, like whether the wedding I’m planning is one I even want.

Everyone said Noah Becker was nothing but trouble.

If only I had listened.

Blog Tour.pngExcerpt:

I watched from the sidelines as Betty schooled Noah on the final dance scene from the classic movie — and one of her favorites. Noah, bless his heart, took it in stride. He held her hands, spun her gently, even went under water completely to give Betty some sort of “lift” that made her feel like Jennifer Grey.

That was when her smile was the largest — her eyes closed, face cast upward, arms out in the same iconic flight stance that the actress had done.

If I wasn’t laughing so hard, I might have cried at the sentiment.

After a dozen more run throughs, Betty called for a break, and the two of them swam up to the side of the pool where I sat. Betty took the lemonade I offered her, sipping and hollering across the pool at Mr. Buchanan — who was seated under the umbrellas. Noah rested his arms on the concrete edge, crossing them and resting his head on his forearm before he peered up at me through lashes still dripping with water.

His eyes were an endless blue, the light from the pool reflecting off them like a tropical dream.

“Enjoying your entertainment this afternoon, Miss. Barnett?”

I bit my lip against a smile. “Very much so, Mr. Becker. I never knew you were such a great dancer.”

“Oh, you should see me on the actual dance floor. I can two step and waltz and cha cha with the best of them. And don’t even get me started on what happens when ‘Watermelon Crawl’ comes on.”

“I’m sure it’s quite entertaining,” I mused, still dangling my feet in the cool water.

“When do I get to see your dance moves?”

I barked out a laugh at that. “Um, that would be approximately… never.”

“Never?” he asked, popping his head up off his arms with a look of injustice. “But you’ve seen all my moves, now. I show you mine, you show me yours. Isn’t that the deal?”

“I never agreed to that.”

He narrowed his eyes, running his forefinger and thumb over the stubble on his chin before he nodded. “I see…” Then, a wicked gleam came over those blue steel eyes, and before I could so much as scream, his hand wrapped around my wrist, tugging forward until I was off the ledge and under water.

I popped up instantly, not even able to open my eyes against the chlorine yet before I was swinging at him. “Noah!”

He laughed, catching my advances easily and pulling me into him. I blinked several times, shaking the drops from my eyes before I glared up at him.

“You jerk. Mama’s going to kill me for ruining my hair.”

“Mama will live,” he said, and then one arm wrapped around my waist, the other taking my hand in a leading position. “Now, let’s dance, little lady.”

With one pull of my hand and push of my hip, I spun away from him, reeling back in like a yo-yo and falling in line with his steps before I realized what was happening. Surprise ripped through me, brows shooting up to my hairline as he somehow managed to smoothly twirl me around that metaphorical dance floor even with water hitting us waist deep. My feet felt sluggish, the moves slower than if we were in boots on a hardwood floor, but somehow, that made it even more fun.

I laughed and laughed as he danced me around — until he had the bright idea to flip me like a swing dancer. I emerged from the water beating on his chest again, which just made him laugh harder. And when we were breathless, Noah tugged me to the side of the pool again.

“Thank you for the dance,” he said, both of us still breathing heavily as he wrapped his strong, rugged hands around my waist. For a moment, he just held them there, the rough pad of his thumbs smoothing over my exposed hip bones. My smile fell, chest still heaving as my eyes slipped to his lips.

I didn’t know why I looked at them.

I didn’t know why I couldn’t look away.

Noah swallowed, tightening his grip on my hips before he lowered in the water a little and helped push me back up onto the edge of the pool where I’d been seated before. Once I was steady, he released his hold on me, backing away with a distant look in his eyes that I couldn’t decipher before he tore them from me and looked at Betty, instead.

Kandi Steiner truly knows how to write angsty romance stories. On the Rocks is a sweet yet tension filled romance in a small country town in Tennessee.

Ruby Grace is the mayor’s daughter and has been raised in a politician’s world and expected to become a politician’s wife. She had no issues with this, she just didn’t anticipated in happening at 19 before she was able to fulfill her dreams. But she was still happily in love with her fiancé, and was returning home to plan her wedding that was in 6 weeks.

Noah Becker followed in his father’s footsteps and works for the local distillery. He knows the ins and outs of whiskey and is one the best at his job. When Ruby comes waltzing into his work one day, that annoying little girl that used to sit behind in the church pews has definitely grown up.

Kandi really knows how to build the unsuspecting sexual tension between people and make it come across so real and natural in her writing. I love that this story isn’t just about the blossoming romance between Noah and Ruby but it’s also about watching a young woman grow.

I can’t say enough about this book and what is portrays and how enjoyable it was to read. It is definitely a slow-burn romance, but it is oh-so worth it. While I did wish we could see how things panned out with Ruby’s ex-fiancé and her father, I felt the book ended in a sweet way.

Kandi leaves us knowing that Noah’s brothers will be getting books in the near future and I can easily see her sliding Noah and Ruby Grace in those books for small glimpses of where they are in life. Another fantastic story from Kandi Steiner.

About Kandi:

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer, and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

CI - BT banner.jpg

In the power struggle between two elite groups, one feisty girl will bring them to their knees…

Cruel Intentions, an all-new dark, high school bully romance from USA Today bestselling author Siobhan Davis is available now!

CruelIntentions_ecover Final Final

Life is a cruel game where only the most ruthless survive. It’s a truth my mother rebelled against, and she paid for it with her life. Now, I play their game. Publicly accepting the destiny that lies in wait for me when I turn eighteen.

But, behind closed doors, I plot my escape.

Trent, Charlie, and my twin, Drew, rule the hallways of Rydeville High with arrogance and an iron fist. I execute my role perfectly, hating every second, but they never let me forget my place in this world.

Everyone obeys the rules. They have for generations. Because our families have always been in control.

Until Cam, Sawyer, and Jackson show up. Throwing their new money around. Challenging the status quo. Setting hearts racing with their gorgeous faces, hot bodies, and bad boy attitudes.

Battle lines are drawn. Sides are taken. And I’m trapped in the middle, because I made a mistake one fateful night when I gave my V-card to a stranger in a blatant F you to my fiancé.

I thought it was the one thing I owned. A precious memory to carry me through each dark day.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Because the stranger was Camden Marshall, leader of the new elite and my perpetual tormenter. He hates me with a passion unrivalled, and he won’t be the only one. Fire will rain down if the truth is revealed, threatening alliances, and the power struggle will turn vicious.

My life will hang in the balance.

But I’ll be ready, and I’m not going down without a fight.

“Hopefully, Camden Marshall acts as a suitable distraction, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.”

“I wonder what he’s like?” she muses, staring idly out the window.

“I spent most of last night Googling him, but it’s so weird, there isn’t a single photo of him or his family online.”

“Drew said they are notoriously reclusive.”

“Apparently so, according to the gossip sites. Camden’s father has Techxet—Sawyer’s father’s company—on retainer, and a team of technical specialists is dedicated twenty-four-seven to finding and removing all photographic content and any unsavory online content. I could barely find out anything about him other than his father is Wesley Marshall, owner of a pharmaceutical company called Femerst, and a much-respected philanthropist, and he met Sawyer and Hunt when they all enrolled at a private New York school a couple of years ago.”

“I bet he’s hot,” Jane speculates as our driver pulls into the entrance to Rydeville High.

“Of course, he’s hot. I don’t need a picture to confirm that. Hot, rich assholes always stick together. We should know.”

I spot Oscar fighting a smile through the front mirror.

“Just don’t go kissing this one,” Jane whispers, her expression half serious, half mischievous.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be going nowhere near Camden Marshall. Trust me on that score.”

My heart is pounding so hard, it may beat right out of my chest. Siobhan, you never cease to amaze me!!

Cruel Intentions is the start of Siobhan’s newest series, Rydeville High Elite, and boy does know how to get your heart pumping and body racing. I gobbled this book in one day. There was no way I could read this any slower, and I tried because I knew it was going to end in a cliffy. But I was so pulled in to this story that I wasn’t coming up for air. And I didn’t.

Rydevillle High is not your typical high school. The school (pretty much town) is run by the top four elite families and their generations-old idealism of how their world works. It is world were pre-arranged marriages still happen to keep the 4 elite families in place; women are only props and men rule. However, the school is where the boundaries are set and learned and carried out once the new generation is of age to takeover their fathers’ places.

However, there are a few within the inner circle that are sick of the old ways and are trying to shake things up. But there’s a new group of families trying to move in and take claim as the new leaders of Rydeville High. They want to shake things up differently.

When new lines are drawn between family and friends, no one can be trusted and everything becomes blurred.

I will be honest – I do this book no justice for how damn enticing it is. LOL There are some pretty intense and rough scenes that may upset some folks but this book is superbly well written. There is bullying and it’s taken to the next level but don’t let that stop you from reading. There is ALOT of teenage drama angst but OMG, I loved it. The sexual tension can be cut with a butter knife and it’s soooooo good. I want to say soooo much more, but I can’t. Just go read it.

Siobhan plays this book out beautifully. Every scene bleeds into the next perfectly and each piece to this puzzle is sprinkled well throughout the book. This book is rifled with tension, action, suspense, angst and drama and I loved every damn word of it. I’m no sure I have the patience to wait for the next one……I need more, NOW!!

Please note that this book is a bully romance. While I am not a fan of romanticizing the topic of bullying, this book is extremely well written, aside from that fact. I chose to not allow my personal issues with bullying go into this review but if you have any triggers that go along with bullying, please read this book with caution.

Excerpt:

Ryder Hammond stared into the eyes of his best friend, who appeared ready to murder him. Next to Sebastian were his two brothers, looking equally furious, and Ryder knew he was in deep shit.

Had he really just objected at Sierra’s wedding?

He began to sweat beneath his suit. But he’d done it, the words had spilled forth, and now he had to dissect why. Ignoring the swearing men beside him, Ryder thought about the moment the big wooden double doors had opened and he’d seen Sierra in her wedding gown.

Her long light brown hair tumbled over her shoulders in perfect curls, her curves showing in her fitted dress, her cleavage just appropriately peeking out from the dipped neckline. Her gorgeous face had glowed as she walked down the aisle to another man.

He’d come today because, as a close family friend, he’d been invited. Because he thought he’d made his peace with the way things had ended between them. And for closure. Once she was married, she’d be lost to him forever. And that was the thought that had run through his head at the moment the priest asked if anyone objected.

He hadn’t planned to open his mouth.

He hadn’t meant to ruin her wedding.

He had intended to watch her be given away to another man and, dammit, be okay with it.

But he wasn’t.

So here they were.

He glanced at her brothers, Sebastian, his closest friend, and Parker, because Ethan had gone after his sister. “I have to talk to her.”

“No f*cking way,” Sebastian said, one palm on his chest, blocking him from moving forward.

“If I knew you’d planned this sh*t, I never would have let you in the door,” said Parker.

Ryder held up both hands. “It wasn’t planned. The words just came out of my mouth. But now that I said them, I need to speak with your sister.” He shoved past the brothers and headed directly for Sierra, who stood talking to the man she was supposed to marry.

His gaze locked with hers but Jason wasn’t having it.

“It’s him.” He pointed, shoving his finger into Ryder’s chest. “It’s always been f*cking him. At every family function, always around.” Jason turned to Sierra. “You wanted him to interrupt the wedding.” He was clearly furious.

They call him the second coming.
Of honor for British football.
Of God in an athlete’s body.
Of every English woman’s fantasy.

Jude Davies is my country’s prodigy on the pitch. More famous than the nobility in Buckingham Palace, he and his merry band of scoundrels rule the Rogue Football Academy and the London nightlife scene alike.

And now, he’s aiming his well-honed set of skills directly at me. His devilish charm is lethal, but with the tragic hand life has dealt me, distractions like him aren’t an option.

Plus, we’re only playing a game. One of convenience, where he needs me to save his reputation, and I need his money to save the one person I love.

Until he wraps me around that immoral finger.
Until I crave that reckless, wild high he provides.
Until I hope for a future that will never happen.

That’s the thing about going toe-to-toe with the next football legend. He’s faster, stronger, and will destroy me every time.

The Second Coming is the start of Carrie Aarons’ sports series and she starts it off right.

I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know these characters. Carrie does a great job of setting up the series well but also not taking away from the main two characters and their story being told.

Jude Davies is the next football legend. While he may be a great player on the pitch, he and his friends (and fellow team members) tend to find themselves causing problems, whether intentional or not. None of them are ever in need of finding a lady and they make no apologies for the wild ways.

Aria’s life revolves around one thing – being the sole income earner for her household and taking care of things. It’s not something that she complains about but it is a lot for someone her age to take on. But she does it with grace and compassion. She knows that her life does not need any distractions and tends to keep her head down.

I love that both Jude and Aria are more alike than they realize. However, they still keep the other on their toes as they get to know one another. I love their interactions and banter. While there were a few things that did bother me as I was reading, the overall vibe was still amazing.

Carrie gives us a great blend of romance with the just the right amount of humor. One thing that Carrie exceeds well at is never undermining her characters and making them act like twits when issues arise. There was one area that I felt Aria could have reacted better, I love that Jude was the one to call her out on it and fix it as soon as he could.

Overall, The Second Coming was a really good read and nice start to this series. Carrie did a good job of setting up the next book in the midst of this one so I am quite excited to read about Kingston and Poppy.

Written With Regret by Aly Martinez….Review

WWR - BT banner.jpg

Written With Regret, the first in an all-new emotional duet from USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez, is available now!

WW Regret FOR WEB

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.

At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.

However, I owed that innocent child more.

And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Excerpt:

Life had never been easy for me. Chaos had been following me like a dark cloud, looming and hovering, casting its shadow far and wide despite how bright the path in front of me should have appeared. After growing up the way I had, where happiness had been more of a privilege than a choice, I knew better than to believe that that moment would be anything other than fleeting.

And one second later, the universe proved me right.

I opened the door to see who had rung the bell—a cursory check revealed an empty hallway.

And that’s when I heard it: the sound that changed not only my entire life in the present, but my life for all future days to come.

At first, it was just a grunt, but as if that baby could feel my gaze, the minute my eyes made contact, it let out a sharp cry.

Confusion hit me like a lightning bolt, sending me back a step. I used the door frame for balance as I took in the yellow blanket with a hole only big enough to reveal a pale-pink face.

“What the fuck?” I breathed. Glancing around the hall, I waited for someone to jump out and start laughing. When no one spoke up to issue a punchline, I took a step closer and repeated, “What the fuck?”

I was utterly unable to process the absurdity in front of me.

Of course, I knew the facts.

It was a baby.

On my doorstep.

Alone.

But the why in that equation was glaringly absent.

“Uhhh,” Ian drawled, peering over my shoulder. “Why is there a kid at your door?”

“I have no idea,” I replied, staring down at the squirming and now-screaming bundle. “It was just there when I opened the door.”

Ian shoved me to the side so he could stand beside me. “You’re shitting me, right?”

“Does it look like I’m shitting you?”

He looked from me to the baby, then back again. “How did it get there?”

We were two incredibly smart men who had created a technology empire out of nothing. But, clearly, a baby was too big for either of us to wrap our minds around.

I swept an arm out and pointed to the kid. “I have no clue, but I’m assuming it didn’t catch a cab.”

A light of understanding hit his eyes. He moved first, stepping over the crying baby and hurrying down the hall, searching around the corner near the elevator before returning alone.

The party continued behind me, but even with the door open, the loud chatter was no match for the ear-piecing cries happening in that hallway.

Veronica suddenly appeared beside me, her body going solid as she stammered out. “Is that…a baby?”

“Back up,” I urged, throwing my arm out to block her path as though the infant were going to suddenly morph into a rabid animal. And let’s be honest, I knew nothing about babies. Anything was possible.

Ian dropped to his knees, scooping up the wailing child. Meanwhile, I stood there like a gawking idiot, paralyzed by a weight I didn’t yet understand.

“Call the pol—” He stopped abruptly and reached into the top of the child’s blanket. “Oh shit,” he whispered, his wide, panic-filled eyes flashing to mine.

“What?” I asked, stepping toward him to get a better look at the kid. Only it wasn’t that tiny baby cradled in his arms that made my heart stop and bile rise in my throat.

There, in my best friend’s hand, was a folded piece of notebook paper that had been tucked into the child’s blanket. From the looks of it, the paper was unremarkable in every sense of the word. Blue lines, white spaces, hanging remnants from where it had been haphazardly ripped from a spiral bound notebook. Even the crease was crooked. But it was my name scrawled on the outside in messy, black ink that made it the most remarkable paper in existence.

I snatched it from his hand and, with blood roaring in my ears, opened it.

Caven,

I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen. This is our daughter Keira. I’ll love her forever. Take care of her the way I can’t.

Written with regret,

Hadley

The hall began to spin, my head feeling like every ounce of blood had been drained from my body. The thundering in my ears faded and the loud chatter of my guests, who were suddenly aware that something was happening at the door, roared to life.

And then the chaos finally found me all over again—the past playing out in my head like my life flashing before my eyes.

I sucked in a deep breath and looked at the baby in his arms. The blanket had fallen off its head just enough to reveal a patch of fine hairs, more orange than its mother’s red.

“Call the police,” I declared, turning on a toe and walking back into my apartment, leaving Ian standing in the hall with Hadley’s child.

Shoving through the crowd of concerned onlookers, I headed straight to the bottles of liquor lining the counter. I didn’t bother with ice or even a glass. I threw back that bottle of vodka, hoping like hell the burn of the alcohol could numb the panic coursing through my veins.

Through it all, that baby never stopped crying.

“Life isn’t live as a whole.”

Aly “Queen of Cliffy’s” Martinez is back at it again!!! OMG – I need book two now!!!

Aly quickly became a fave author of mine after I read The Darkest Sunrise duet. She is extremely talented in not only writing strong characters but stories that will captivate you from start to finish. And she always knows when to throw in the greatest twist that you never see coming.

“There’s a reason time only marches in one direction. You can choose any second to start over again.”

Written With Regret is story that you need to experience on your own. The prologue shocked me and had me immediately “all in” with this story. I absolutely love Caven and Hadley slowly grew on me. Their story made me stop and think on so many things. They had my heart in the clutches of their hands. Aly has you feeling so much through Caven and Hadley’s traumatic journeys.

“We were both ruined a long time ago, Caven. Maybe it’s time for us to clear the wreckage and rebuild. Starting with her.”

The story is told from both POVs and written in both past and present. It is a roller coaster of emotions and Aly does a phenomenal job of keeping you right at the edge the entire time. I read this book in one day because I could not stop reading this one. And then she leaves us with that cliffy and my heart is pounding out of chest in anticipation of where she is taking this story.

“The world sucks. People are judged than accepted. Hate spreads far more easily than love. Power and money are valued more than morality. Insecurities are preyed upon rather than quelled.”

As I said, this book is roller coaster of emotions. You will feel so much but something I had not anticipated was my love for Rosalee. She brings the perfect balance to all the angst in this book. I don’t want to spoil anything by saying anymore but Rosalee will steal your heart.

I have no doubt that book two, Written With You will be just as emotional and jaw dropping as this one. Aly has once again delivered a story that captures the reader from start to finish with a powerful passion.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her husband and four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and olives. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
