Peace by Piece by S.J. McGran….Blog Tour & Review

Title: Peace by Piece
Author: S.J McGran
Release Date: June 29, 2015
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis
There’s an expiration date on every life. A ticking clock counting down the seconds until you no longer exist in this world.
Each tick of the clock is louder for me.
I don’t have an eternity. I have one year. Just twelve short months.
If life promised an infinity he could have been my forever, and without a doubt I should have been his always.
Excerpt
“Been waiting for you, Genevieve. I know it. You were made for me.” He continues
assaulting my lips and neck with his kisses, pausing at the hollow of my throat
to whisper there, “You feel that? You feel the world tip on its axis when we’re
together? It’s earth-shattering. It’s like we can fix everything that’s wrong
in this world just by being together. Do you feel it, V?”
I let out a needy moan from the back of my throat. I want to feel it. I want his
words to be true. I want more than anything in this world for our relationship,
for his kisses to have healing powers.
Standing there in the middle of my tiny cabin, with the most
beautiful, amazing man holding me in his arms, with his lips driving my pulse
through the roof, I send up a silent prayer to every God that might be
listening to let his words be true.
Please, let him heal me. Let this
pain, this suffering be worth something. Give me this man, please. Give him to
me and I’ll never ask for anything again. I’ll be your greatest servant, your
best disciple. Just give me this man. Please.
He pulls back and I feel the loss of his touch immediately. “Come on, sweetness,
we need to get you washed up.” Grabbing my hand in his he pulls me through the
one room cabin to the small closed-off bathroom. Picking me up he sets me on
the vanity while he goes to the shower to test the water temperature. Once he’s
apparently satisfied, he turns back to me
and takes my breath away with the strength of
his stare.
This wasn’t supposed to be our fate. He’s just a kid. He’s not supposed to fall in
love, yet.
And, yet I know it is inevitable. I see it in the way he looks at me, the way he
touches me. It doesn’t make sense and yet there it is. I recognize it because
if I were to force my eyes off of him and look at myself in the mirror I’d see
the same emotions reflected back at me.
This is the moment where I either push or jump.
And, I have no idea what to do.
“Don’t shut me out,” his words are whisper quiet but they bounce off the tiled walls
mockingly. “Don’t push me away, V. Don’t fight this.”
“I have to, Levi. I can’t let you fall in love with me.”
He steps up to me and once again nestles my face in his steady grasp. “You don’t
have a choice.” He absorbs whatever argument I was going to say with his kiss.
Expertly he pushes back my excuses, making me focus on nothing but the way he
makes me feel. He completely surrounds me and I get lost in him. Just like he
wanted.

Review

I have not read any books by MJ but after this, I will start reading more of her.

Peace by Piece will make you stop and think.  Stop and look back over your life.  It will make you question everything.  It will make you want more out of life.  It will make you treasure life more.
There are many books that have hit home for me because I have gone through those experiences in my life.  And this book is no different in that fact.  But this book also shows me what all take for granted every day – life.
The story of Levi and Genevieve will make you smile, cry and laugh.  The love, strength, hope you will feel as you read this will make you heart grow.
You can’t read this book and not feel touched by it.  I won’t give any details away about their story.  You just have to read it.  It’s a story that will stay with you long after you finish.
MJ wrote about something that many people unfortunately have to go through daily.  However, it’s the basis of the love and strength that is filled throughout this book that really makes this book stand out.
We all make choices every day but always remember, tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
Thank you MJ for writing a book that is so heart-felt and touching.

CHASING THE WIND Synopsis:

Kaida grew up in two worlds–a child in the Manor raised by Sabah before she was granted Citzenship. But the only place she has ever felt like she’s belonged is with Cedric and Guin, the boys she grew up with.

When Cedric’s involvement in a rebel faction goes wrong, the Commission exiles her and holds Guin hostage. Now, she’s on her own for the first time, and searching for the sister who left her behind and a princess who was stolen from the City–and then she stumbles across a face from the past.

Hawke has been an outcast since his Tribe died. When he finds Sabah’s sister on the road, he agrees to help her. But as they search the wilds and grow closer, his disdain for her is slowly replaced by a deep attraction for the girl who faces every challenge so bravely.
And as the City’s deadline dwindles, and the boy she loves hangs in the balance, Hawke is left to wonder if he is protecting her, or if he the biggest threat she will face.

Excerpt:

It’s times like these that I miss Guin the most. Times when I’m wrapped up in my own head and I need someone to talk it out with. Guin has always been the one to calm my thoughts, to make me see things in a reasonable light, to make them fit in a way that makes sense. Cedric is too wild and impulsive for that—too hot tempered and emotional.

The part of Guin that is a good scientist—and if I’m honest, that’s the majority of him—is too even and steady for the headier emotions. It’s what makes him so different from Cedric.

Cedric is hot fire, stormy emotions, fierce kisses and intense sex.

Guin is quiet, steady as the darkness and the Falls, sweet affection and long lovemaking.

I would be lost without them. I need both. We’ve been together, just us three, since Sabah left us to chase her ban-wolf into the wilds. No one in the Manor had time for us. We were too old to need care and too young to be really useful.

They held me together, then and after, when the plague came and Sabah vanished again. When the furious Prince sent his Keepers to swarm our home, searching for the sister who hadn’t bothered with goodbye.

They held me together; we held each other together. Guin, though. He was the steady leg of our triad, and I miss him, a bone deep ache of loss that I’ve been trying desperately not to think about. But sitting here, in a stranger’s bed, I can’t help but think of him.

Book Blurb:

The new Loving on the Edge romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Nothing Between Us turns on the heat between two men who wonder how much they’re willing to risk in the name of love.

Four years after an accident tore their friendship apart, Hunter and Devon are living separate lives. Hunter is now the all-America hero—a congressman’s son and a pro pitcher in Houston preparing to marry his beauty-queen girlfriend. Devon is in Dallas running a new restaurant.

But when Hunter unexpectedly shows up in Devon’s bar, Devon can’t turn him away. Damn it if the man isn’t still gorgeous. But engaged? Hell no. All he’s doing for Devon is bringing back memories of their college-roommate days, and the night their relationship went too far. Turns out Hunter has never forgotten it either.

Now Devon can’t help but be drawn in all over again by the only guy who’s ever gotten close enough to break his heart. Maybe one more night together would be enough for both of them to finally move on. Or maybe one night will change everything…

My Review:

Yours All Along is story number 7.5 in author Roni Loren’s Living On The Edges series and is admittedly the first in the series I’ve read. Well, consider me hooked! This novella was amazing. It was emotional and sexy as hell and I loved every second.

I love a good friends to lovers story and I love a good reunited lovers story….so you can imagine how much I loved this mash-up of those two favorites. It made no difference to me as far as telling Hunter and Devon’s story that this was novella length. Author Loren does a stellar job at telling this couple’s backstory and what led them to where there at this point in their lives. She also did a stellar job in having the reader feel every emotion that the characters shared. And let Me tell you, there is an abundance of emotion.

Hunter’s family is uptight and straight-laced without the ability to bend or see outside of what they think is “normal” so that put a ton of strain on Hunter when he started having an attraction to Devon. Poor Hunter was confused but also anxious to explore these feelings. I loved him and his willingness to try something new. Devon is so amazing and supportive with Hunter and helping him navigate these unfamiliar waters. HE was patient and sweet but also damn sexy.

God, I loved them together and was so heartbroken when they ended up going their separate ways. Luckily fate had a plan for these two and brings them back together and when she does it’s so ridiculously hot and sweet all at the same time. The relief and happiness in both of them at the end was palpable and I sat there was a goofy grin on my face when I read the very last page.

Overall, this was one of the best m/m books I’ve read this year and I will certainly be picking up the rest of the series. Thank you, Ms. Loren, for a beautiful and steamy read!

Excerpt:

This was so not his scene. Hunter tried to move to the beat of the pop song as the crowd pulsed around him near the front of the stage, but this music was not his thing and the high school chick in front of him kept casually grinding herself back against him, making everything awkward. He wasn’t drunk enough for this shit. Grinding girl sent him a look over her shoulder that obviously was some sort of invitation, but he couldn’t be less interested. She had on a pound of makeup and reeked of some kind of sweet perfume and alcohol. No thanks.

Dev was having no trouble keeping up with the beat, though, and seemed to be having a way better time. The shots he’d taken before they came in had probably helped. The kid had been in a weird mood the whole ride here. But now he was bouncing next to Hunter, face lit up with pride, as he watched his baby sister perform on stage. Hunter took a long sip off his cup to finish his beer, entertained more by the view of his tipsy, dancing friend than what was on stage or the girl in front of him.

“Isn’t she amazing?” Devon yelled.

Hunter smiled and tossed his empty cup to the ground, Dev’s exuberance contagious. “Yep. She’s totally hot.”

Devon shoved him in the shoulder. “Watch it, big man. That’s my baby sister. I’ll kick your ass.”

Hunter caught Devon’s wrist before he moved away, the heat of Dev’s skin against his palm sending a jolt through him, and without thinking, he pulled him closer. “I’d like to see you try, Easton.”

Devon’s gaze flicked to Hunter’s grip on his wrist then to the scant space between them, confusion flaring there. “What are you doing?”

Hunter knew he should let go, but somehow he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Holding on to Dev in the mass of chaos felt like finding safe harbor in the eye of a storm. He put his mouth close to Devon’s ear. “I’m using you as a shield. I need you to protect my virtue from the jailbait over there. Maybe she’ll think we’re together.”

Devon glanced over at the girl, who peered back again, focus zeroing in on Hunter. Dev gave him a wicked look, his smirk loose from his buzz. “We’ve got this. Just follow my lead.” Devon hooked his finger in Hunter’s belt loop and dragged him over to the spot he’d been dancing in. The music pumped through the arena, and the colored lights sparked over Devon in a haphazard, colorful pattern, revealing only pieces, snapshots. Hunter couldn’t look away. Dev rocked to the beat. “Come on, big man. Dance. Let’s shatter her little schoolgirl fantasy about landing a college guy for the night. Let her think I’m taking you home.”

Hunter laughed, nervous all of a sudden. “I suck at dancing.”

“Nobody sucks at dancing at a concert. Just close your eyes and move.”

Hunter wasn’t sure that was the truth, but he did have a little buzz going, and Dev’s grip on his waist was keeping him in time with the music. He closed his eyes and hooked an arm around Devon’s neck, focusing on letting go and moving with the beat.

“There you go,” Dev declared. “Just move.”

Hunter rarely danced and definitely had never tried with a guy, but before long, he could feel himself getting swept up in it—the beer, the music, the skill of his dance partner. All if it was pulsing through him with an electric edge, waking up everything and dragging him into the oblivion. He opened his eyes, finding Dev with flushed cheeks and laughing eyes. Devon spun around and then grabbed Hunter again without missing a beat. God, the kid was something. Devon was in his element tonight. Not that he ever held back. He was open about who he was, but seeing him in this environment proved that Devon still held some things in check around the frat house. Here Devon was free . . . and fucking magnetic.

The draw was something Hunter was learning to get used to. From the beginning, Devon had had this undeniable pull on him, but it’d been purely a friendship vibe. They connected and just got each other’s humor. Their differences had been a nonissue.

But after the night they’d shared his bed, the pull had gotten decidedly less clear cut. Hunter hadn’t lied when Devon had asked if he looked at guys in a sexual way. He didn’t. He was just starting to look at Devon that way. And it was completely fucking with his head.

Devon turned and put his back to Hunter, keeping close but moving with the music and leaving enough space between them that it didn’t cross into bump-and-grind territory. That’s when stalker girl decided she had an opening. She shimmied over and tried to work her way in between him and Devon. Her body brushed against Hunter’s arm in seductive invitation. But before she could slide into Devon’s spot, Hunter took a wide step, grabbed Devon’s hand, and pulled Dev against him hard. Their chests collided, and Devon’s eyes widened.

In my world, there is no such thing as love. It is just a lie we whisper into our client’s ear. Love is foreign and hazardous. What I did not expect was to bare my soul to a man who is as egotistical as he is dangerous.

His name is Landon. Despite his blackened soul, he tried to save me, but what he didn’t expect was my torturous fate to catch up with me.

To your father, I’m the escort.

To your mother, I’m the whore.

To the legal system, I’m the prostitute.

In the end, I’m just the other woman.

I have no idea if I will continue to survive, if I will ever find my path aside from the gritty streets I know so well. There is a good chance I will wind up in the ditch like most women in my position. Surrendering to my fate is the only choice I have. I must relinquish it all.

Following Jayden across the way, I skim the crowd at the café and land on a pair of handsome eyes. So handsome, I stop walking.

Sitting at a table full of sexy men is a short, blond-haired guy, his face hard and chiseled. My God, his arms are pumped with muscle as his hands flex around a brown football. My core blossoms with incredible need as I eye his toned arms, and what I assume is a matching hard chest beneath his jersey.

“Charlie, let’s go!”Jayden yells, making me realize I’ve been standing here like an idiot, staring at a sexy stranger in a café. The guy smirks at me and tosses the football in the air, breaking eye contact.

I tuck my hair behind my ear, giving a small smile in return before walking forward. I suddenly crash into something, the impact throwing me back on my ass hard.

“Shit!”I shout with pain.

“Fuck!”roars a male voice standing above me. My eyes jolt upward to find a broad-shouldered man in a black suit, holding a broken plastic cup in one hand with coffee spilled all down his front.  My stomach tangles into a bundle of tight knots, and my hands tremble from the strength and power this man radiates. Oh, shit.

“I am so sorry!”I stand up and start frantically brushing at the man’s very expensive-looking suit. My God, it’s like rubbing a rock. His body is so toned and strong beneath my palms, which isn’t helping me get a grip on myself. My eyes skirt up his arms, finding the fabric stretched tight around his biceps and causing me to swallow the lump forming in my throat. The knots in my stomach crawl into a fit of butterflies, and my heart races. He’s handsome—intimidating, really. The way his toned body and squared shoulders take up the space takes my breath away. His jaw is chiseled to perfection with scruff claiming it perfectly. I bite my bottom lip to keep from moaning.

“It’s fine, really,”he states, his voice deep as he grabs my wrists to stop me from slapping at his stained shirt pathetically. My body sparks with electricity where he grips me firmly. My mouth parts and my breathing shallows as I slowly trail my eyes from his hold on my wrist to his eyes. They’re green with little brown flecks thrown around them. They’re captivating. His jawline is strong and defined, his nose broad, and his dark hair is smoothed back with just a trail hanging loosely out of place on the front of his forehead from our sudden run-in. He’s fucking gorgeous, and I can’t look away.

“Are you all right?”he questions, raising an eyebrow. His voice is low and rough, making my eyes focus on his mouth.

“I-”I stutter, completely lost in the thought of his luscious lips on mine. These lips are not like any belonging to the guys at my high school, that’s for sure. When you look at them, his lips look like they’re made to make love to a woman’s body. The thoughts of the glorious pleasure they could bring make my cheeks warm, my chest ache.

“Charlie, let’s go!”Jayden hollers, catching mine and Sexy Man In a Suit’s attention.

“That your friend?”he asks, his lips that hold the perfect cupid’s bow turn into a slight smirk.

I open my mouth to speak but a wild hiccup noise escapes instead, caused from the wild beat of my heart against my chest. I close my eyes, humiliated.

He chuckles, releasing his hold of my wrists. The way he laughs causes my skin to rise with goose bumps.

“I gotta go,”I whisper nervously. I look down and stride quickly toward Jayden, praying I don’t bump into any more hot men on the way.

“Lord, give me strength. Vegas is already becoming a bad influence,”I mutter, catching up with Jayden.

Review

I knew jumping into Relinquish, that it was going to be different than Forgy’s MC series.  What I was not expecting was to absolutely love this more than her MC series.
Relinquish is about Charlie and Landon.  Charlie is a girl raised in the foster system since the age of 9. Now an adult, Charlie is trying to earn a living and make something out of herself.  However, she has a few bumps and roadblocks to overcome.  And they aren’t exactly easy or pretty to get around.  Landon has been raised in his father’s estate and that lifestyle is all he knows.  But he’s used to women like Charlie, or so he thought.  And I won’t say anything more than that.  But I will tell you that there is a few twists thrown in that will have you going “OMG” and “WTF.”
I just wanted to pay my rent, not feel so lonely, and be free.  Have some control over my life.  But in the end, I’m owned again.”
Forgy does a fabulous job of writing this style.  I have had the privilege of watching her grow with each book she has written and she just gets better and better.  I was pulled into Charlie’s world immediately and just couldn’t let go.  Forgy wrote Charlie as such a strong woman, yet dainty that is just guts when you she feels any pain or hurt.  Landon – what can I say.  The man is terrifyingly handsome.  He exudes such a strong and alarming persona, yet he intrigues you.  Jayden, Charlie’s best friend, I love that girl!  She definitely knows how to hold her own and doesn’t take shit from anyone.
Like I said before, Forgy wrote this story amazingly well.  It is by far, my favorite by her.  This proves, that not only can she write a story, but she is able to make a story come to life with her words.  I love when the suspense in the story has me holding my breath and trying to figure out everything.  Somethings, you will easily guess as the story goes on.  However, Forgy has a few tricks up her sleeve that smacks you in the face.
Outstanding job Forgy!  You will definitely be winning over a new set of fans plus your exiting followers with this one!

I was stuck between a rock(star) and a hard place.

At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall. At twenty-five his body hovered over mine. Every girl’s fantasy became my reality. I was dating a rockstar. Yet I was slowly falling for another man. The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.

Flynn Beckham was the opening act.

Dylan Ryder was the headliner.

What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?

I’ll tell you what happens. Things get ugly.

My Review:

Beat is book number two in author Vi Keeland’s Life On Stage series and being a big fan of Ms. Keeland’s writing, I was so excited to get my hands on this book. Well, let me say that I blame today’s bags under my eyes on the sexy and deliciously sweet Flynn Beckham because once I started this book, there was no way I could put it down. I loved it so much!

This was a love triangle that had me all in all sorts of knots, but in a good way. Lucky is totally caught off guard when she thinks her life is pretty set and as good as it was going to get. Which wasn’t terrible. She owned a bar, had a rock-star boyfriend she and the rest of the single girls in the U.S. had pined over since being teenagers, and a great best friend. All in all it was pretty good. But there was always something unsettled right under the surface she chose to just bury it deep. Then she met Flynn. Suddenly that unsettled feeling came to the forefront…but inexplicably became calm when he was around. She knew it had to mean something. She wasn’t sure she wanted to admit it. Too bad she wouldn’t have much of a choice when her boyfriend decides to take her on tour with his band at the same time the band’s bass player is replaced…with Flynn.

Now she was stuck on a tour bus with her boyfriend and the guy she was beyond attracted to. Too bad they weren’t one in the same. And that’s when my nerves kicked in! I didn’t know what I wanted Lucky to do. On one hand, Dylan, is an ok guy in the beginning; even though rumors of him cheating were always in the periphery. On the other hand Flynn is just so amazing all around. He’s talented, funny, kind, caring, understanding, and is so good to his little niece that I just about died. There truly wasn’t one thing I didn’t love about him. Lucky sure did have her hands full with these two. But one wins out in the end and while I won’t tell you who, I will say that I was SO FREAKING HAPPY! (so, yeah, you can probably guess who it is lol!)

This book had it all. I laughed, I cried, I blushed…I loved it ALL. Ms. Keeland once again wrote an amazing story with characters I just adored. Thank you, Vi!

Excerpt:

Getting through Flynn singing is incredibly hard. The way his throat moves, the way his mouth caresses each syllable of the low, raspy sound that falls from his lips. I should be watching his posture, his breathing, the way his larynx forces out the words—but instead I’m focused on the beauty of his mouth and how the sound of his voice glides over my body, making it feel both warm and tingly at the same time. I’m lost when the song finishes, yet I haven’t really observed him yet.

“So. Give it to me straight. What am I doing wrong?”

Ummm…absolutely nothing from what I can see. Everything was perfect. Don’t change a thing. Shit. “Could you do it again? Maybe a different song, one you haven’t sung in a while. So the sounds are less familiar to your body. Sometimes that can give me a different view.” At least I make it sound like a real thing when the words come out.

He sings again, and this time I force myself to observe. “Hmm…your posture is great. Most people have a tendency to favor one side of their neck, which makes them tilt a bit when they speak, and it becomes magnified when they sing, which puts strain on the muscles around the vocal cords. Your alignment is perfect.”

“Thank you, it goes with the rest of my perfectness,” he says with a teasing arrogance that, from the little I know about him, I know isn’t real.

“You didn’t let me finish.”

“You can’t now tell me I’m not perfect. I was already basking in the glow.”

“Actually, it was perfect…but almost a little too perfect. Which makes me think you don’t usually stand this way when you sing.”

“It isn’t the way I normally sing. On stage, I usually have a guitar over my shoulder. Even if I’m not playing it, it’s there.”

“Well, I need to see you holding your instrument to assess you fully, then.”

Flynn’s eyebrows quirk up and the dirty grin on his face is unmistakable.

“The guitar. I’d need to see you holding the guitar.

“That’s a shame.” He shrugs, the playful smile still on his face. “But okay. It’s your call. Whatever instrument you want to see me hold is fine with me.”

“How big of you.”

“So now we’re talking about the other instrument again?”

I roll my eyes, although this conversation is having more of an effect on me than I let on.

Dream of You - Teaser 2

About DREAM OF YOU:

Abby Erickson isn’t looking for a one-night stand, a relationship, or anything that involves any one-on-one time, but when she witnesses a shocking crime, she’s thrust into the hands of the sexiest man she’s ever seen – Colton Anders. His job is to protect her, but with every look, every touch, and every simmering kiss, she’s in danger of not only losing her life but her heart also.

Excerpt:

“Jillian—”

“I just don’t want to end up doing what my entire family does. Everything is about the Academy, and that’s not what I want to do. The only way I’m going to escape that is by leaving now. Anyway,” she said, pursing her lips as a thoughtful look crossed her face. “One of the things you never really see in a romance book is a woman who has self-esteem issues. I mean, I’m sure they’re out there, but they’re few and far between. Like they can have eating disorders, post-traumatic stress from sexual assault or mental abuse. They can be sold into sex trafficking and they can carry epic amounts of grief. We have female characters who have suffered every loss imaginable and ones who are scarred physically and mentality, but where in the hell are the average women? Ones who look in the mirror and cringe a little? Like, why are all those others acceptable to women, but reading or knowing another woman who has a low self-esteem is, like, worse than all that drama llama? Dude, I get reading for wish fulfillment, but you’ve got to have a little reality in the story.”

Brushing her bangs out of her eyes, Jillian exhaled loudly and then continued. “Whatever. It doesn’t matter. You’re normal. I’m normal. We’re not perfect and not having the greatest confidence doesn’t make you any less of a person.”

What Jillian said was so true.

Holy crap, the raw truth of it all floored me.

Women wanted other women to have high self-esteem and confidence. No one wanted to ever admit that their confidence was lacking, that they had a hard time looking at themselves in the mirror.

It was wrong that we weren’t able to have our weak moments. That we had to hide the fact that we were uncomfortable with our imperfections. That the journey to loving yourself doesn’t exclude recognizing there were days when you just didn’t want to see yourself naked.

And that there were worse things than having some confidence issues.

I glanced over at Jillian. This was one of those moments when I forgot that she was so young, because damn, she really could be a hell of a lot wiser than me. “You’re right.”

Her face transformed prettily when she smiled. “I know.”

I laughed. “And modest.”

Excerpt:

“Sensation is such a personal thing.” He tugged on her hand as he headed in the opposite direction, toward a shadowed corner of the room where a couple of chairs sat on either side of a long, low coffee table.

At first glance, the table and chairs didn’t seem to match the rest of the furniture in the room. Their legs appeared thicker, sturdier. The design brought to mind a Victorian parlor, but she knew they’d been specially made for this room.

The chairs had cushioned seat pads but were higher than normal. And the seat itself curved in at the front. The longer she stared at the chair, the more intrigued she became. And the more detail she noticed. Like the three metal rings on the outside of the legs, at varying intervals.

Her body heated as she considered uses for those rings. Then her gaze switched to the table, where she saw those same rings on the legs.

“Jared had these pieces commissioned on my designs. Not as elegant as other pieces, but the company who produced them are craftsmen. They took the raw designs I gave them and created something beautiful.”

His hand settled against her back again, making her breath catch in her throat. He did nothing but let it lie there, though her body reacted as if he’d caressed her.

“The same company made the larger piece in the corner.”

She automatically turned to see what he was referring to, following the direction in which he pointed.

She knew as soon as she saw it what it could be used for. The images that came to mind made her wet.

Holy hell. She wanted him to strip her right now and screw her. On the floor, on the table, on the chair. On that padded, black-leather horse.

She wasn’t as much of a prude as her friends obviously thought she was. She read voraciously and had acquired a taste for erotica along with the thrillers and mysteries she devoured on a regular basis.

She loved the freedom the women in those stories enjoyed and had often wished she could be just as adventurous, but she’d never met a man who made her want to give up that much control.

Until she’d met Dane.

“Which do you prefer?” She glanced up at Dane and found him watching her with blistering intensity. “The horse or the chairs?”

For a second, she thought he might insult her intelligence and ask if she knew what the pieces were used for. When he didn’t, she wanted to reward him. And she would. Maybe right there on that chair.

“I don’t have a favorite. Each has its own reward. I think it depends on what you’re in the mood for.”

“And what are you in the mood for?”

He lifted a brow at her. “Why do I have to choose only one?” A pause. “So here’s how it’s going to go. You’re going to strip and sit on that chair.”

She tried to control her reaction but couldn’t, because she felt as if every bone in her body had gone liquid.

How did he know exactly the right thing to say to make her want to do exactly what he said?

Was it the tone of his voice? The look in his eyes? The memory of his mouth on her body and how she felt when he sucked on her nipples?

“Then I’m going to tie your legs to those rings with silk ropes so you can’t close them.”

The beat of her heart throbbed in her ears, drowning out everything but the sound of his voice and the heaviness of her breathing.

“And then I’m going to kneel between your legs and lick you until you scream. And don’t worry about the noise. The entire room is soundproofed.”

Excerpt

“Hey there,” a deep voice rumbled against my ear.
When I turned around, I was eye level with a wall of leather with white patches sewn into it. One read VICE PRESIDENT and the other, BEACH BASTARDS. The man wearing the vest had long blonde hair that draped over to one side of his head, revealing the shaved area beneath. He had a beard, not stubble, a full-on beard that was a few inches long and very well groomed. He stood well over six feet, his frame lean yet very cut and muscular. I couldn’t tell what color his eyes were because his lids hung heavy and were slightly reddened. His entire neck was covered with colorful tattoos and when he went to light a cigarette I noticed that the backs of both of his hands and were covered in ink as well.
“Hey,” I answered back, trying to assert my newly found false confidence.
He was beyond attractive. He was gorgeous. If I had to end up in someone’s bed, I imagined that being in his wouldn’t be half-bad. He sniffled, drawing attention to the light dusting of white powder trapped in his nostrils.
“They call me Bear. You belong to anyone?” he asked seductively, leaning in toward me.
“Maybe…you?” I winced at my choice of words. Of all the fucking things I could have said, THAT was what came to mind? Stupid fucking mouth. Nikki was right. I spoke first and thought second.
Bear chuckled. “I’d love that, beautiful, but I got something else in mind.”
“Oh, yeah? What would that be?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light although my mind and heart were racing.
“This party? It’s for my buddy. And he was down here for a total of thirty minutes before he hightailed it upstairs to drown himself in a bottle of Jack. He’s like a cat in a tree, can’t seem to talk him down. It’s understandable, seeing as he’s been away a while, but I figure you can help me out.”
He hooked his finger into the front of my skirt and slowly dragged me toward him until my nipples were flush up against his chest. He pressed his fingers into the skin right above my public bone and I resisted the urge to jump back by biting down on my bottom lip.
“The BBB’s have never really been his thing.” He paused when he saw the confused look on my face at his abbreviation. “Beach Bastard Bitches.” He explained. “But you? You’re new. You’re different. You’ve got this cute little innocent thing going on, but I know you’re not or you wouldn’t be at this kind of party if that was your deal. I’m thinking he’ll like you.” Bear brushed his lips against the side of my neck. “So maybe you go up there. Make him happy for me. Make little him happy by wrapping those gorgeous lips around his cock for a while. Then when you’re done, bring him back down here to civilization. And maybe later, if you’re a good girl and do what you’re told, we can go back to the clubhouse and have some real fun.” He grazed his teeth along my earlobe. “Think you can you do that for me?”
“Yeah, yeah I can do that,” I said. My skin prickling from his touch. And I could do it.
I think.
“What’s your name anyway?” Bear’s hand slowly traveled up the back of my leg, pushing up my skirt, it came to rest on my ass cheek, which was then exposed to anyone who might have been looking in our direction.
“Doe. My name is Doe,” I breathed.
“Fitting.” He said with a chuckle. “Well, my innocent looking little Doe.” Bear leaned in close and surprised me by planting a soft kiss on the corner of my mouth. His lips were soft, and he smelled like laundry detergent mixed with liquor and cigarettes. I was just beginning to think that the kiss meant that he’d changed his mind and didn’t want me to send me away to his friend, but no such luck. He pulled away abruptly and turned me around by my shoulders so that I was facing the stairs. He swatted me on my ass, propelling me forward. “Up the stairs you go, sweetheart. Last room at the end of the hallway. Be good to my boy, and me and you will get to play later.” He sealed his words with a wink and as I made my way up the stairs I turned back and flashed him a fake smile. I hoped the guy at the end of the hallway was like Bear, because then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
Then a thought hit me that had me fighting back the tears that sprung from my eyes with a sudden force that almost took me to my knees.
I’d officially sold myself, and the price was far more than any dollar amount.

KING TEASER 2

Review

How do I even start this review.  It’s been days and I still can’t put all my thoughts together and make them coherent.  This story is haunting beautiful and I told T.M that myself.
This is a story unlike no other I have read before.  I was happily reading along with all the crazy and twisted crap going on and then BAM – I am thrown through a freaking unexpected loop and everything changes.  And that is all I am giving you about the plot.  The blurb gives you what you need and the rest you just have to read and find out for yourself.
T.M. does an outstanding job with writing the characters so well and telling the story from their POV’s.  I love her writing technique and how it just draws you more and more into the story as you read.  She does a phenomenal job of putting you in their shoes and not just reading what is happening, but you feel as though you are experiencing everything – their pain, love, anger, fear, hope, and betrayal.
This story will put you through the ringer.  It is dark and rough, but also it’s pure and honest.  It’s hauntingly beautiful.  I read this in 2 sittings (only because I had to work and sleep and also tend to my family) but the actual hours was probably 4-5. You will be immediately sucked into this book and won’t want to put it down.  And if you have to, you will find yourself constantly thinking about it.  King (both story and the character) is still on my mind and I don’t foresee either one leaving going away any time soon. I am so ready for the next book!!
I have to say that this is definitely one of my favorite reads so far in 2015!!  T.M. – you have written a superb story!

Verite by Rachel Blaufeld….Blog Tour & Review

verite blog tour

verite cover

synopis verite

That’s me––Tingly Simmons––athlete, foreign-language major, professor lover, obsessed idiot girl. Definitely not a frat rat or sorority slut. I’ve never even played beer pong.

I ditched the vapid, soulless high-society life of Los Angeles for the promise of something more meaningful in rural Ohio. Accepting a track scholarship for college, I tried running my way to happiness, but instead I ended up sleeping with my French professor and falling head over heels for him.

When that relationship fell apart, so did I.

Barely hanging on by a thread and using the most absurd coping skills, I was determined to hide behind my past indiscretions. That was, until I met Tiberius Jones. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d learn the truth about love from a six-foot-five basketball player.

 C signature

Verite is the first book I have read by Rachel and I completely fell in love with this story.
Verite is such a sweet and warming read, that you can’t help but smile and feeling all sorts of gooey warm and loving all over.  Rachel does a wonderful job giving us a beautiful and heart-felt romance that’s not all about the hot an heavy, although there is some of that too.
“Everything was better when it meant something.”
Ty and Ting are two college athletes from two complete opposite worlds.  But their story will prove that it doesn’t matter where you are from, it’s who you are and what you do now, that matters.  Ty – he melts my heart, he really does.  He’s a baller with the heart of gold. Ting will infuriate you at times, but will also make you want to push her to move forward and not let her past dictate who she is.  The woman is very strong and it takes a warm and honest heart to make her see her true self.  But what made me absolutely fall in love with this story is watching their relationship grow.  It’s not all hot and heavy – it’s sincere, heart warming and gives you that “falling in love” feeling all over.
You will love every single character in this book (minus a few asshats).  Rachel wrote these characters very well – you will feel the emotions they go through and really pulling for them.  Ty’s patience and persistence with Ting is so honest and truly shows how he feels about her.  Ting’s view of herself and her past actions are truly genuine – you can understand why she puts those walls and up and guards herself.  And the secondary characters flowed perfectly with the story and really show the love and support in this book.
Verite is one book that many readers need to pick up and read this summer. It will make you fall in love with romance all over again.   I can’t say enough this book.  I found myself highlighting and bookmarking so many pages as I was reading this.  This book definitely has woven a piece into my heart and will stay there.  It’s a captivating and refreshing read.
Bravo Rachel!!

verite excerpt

He stood there patiently, grinning as he waited for me to move through the doorway or answer him, and pinned me with his unusual blue eyes, so pale in his handsome face against his deep brown skin. His gaze seared right through me, just like it had earlier, before dinner in the courtyard.

Completely unnerved, I didn’t respond. His size was daunting, his large frame loomed over the threshold, and I was struck speechless. Uncertain whether it was his obvious good looks that threw me, or the overtly friendly wide grin on display, I simply stood there for a moment, trying to figure out his angle.

As I took in his long athletic shorts, tight gray athletic hoodie, and the pair of spiky Air Jordan slides on his feet, his left eyebrow cocked up at me like I was the next sideshow. Well, I’d already played that act countless times at home, including but not limited to last year when I was caught with the professor’s dick deep inside me. Now I was all about slipping under the radar, getting by silently and with little fuss.

“Hey, you okay?” he asked, his deep voice interrupting my thoughts. “I’m talking to you . . . you coming in? I’m over here holding the door.”

His pale blue eyes scanned my brown ones as his smile faded. I imagined him knowing who I was and what I did, perhaps mentally undressing me one piece of clothing at a time, wanting to give the slut a whirl.

Oh God, was my name being passed around—again?

Self-disgust consumed me, spurring me to action. “Um, yeah. I am,” I answered, averting my gaze as I shifted my backpack up on my shoulder and stomped through the doorway.

I turned ever so slightly to witness him ducking to fit through the doorframe. It was crazy how insanely tall this guy was. Obviously, he was a basketball player, probably with a huge ego to boot.

I managed to mutter, “Thanks,” as I swept past him, and the door clanged shut behind us.

“Bad day?” he called after me.

What was with him being all smiling and friendly? Was he for real, or was he trying to bait me? I couldn’t help my self-doubt; skepticism was woven so deeply into my personality, I questioned everyone’s motives.

“Bad life,” I tossed back without thinking. For some reason, I felt the need to share my feelings with this stranger, and it scared the shit out of me.

So I did what came naturally to me—I ran. As I sprinted toward the elevator, I caught him heading toward the staircase out of the corner of my eye. I got off on my floor feeling relieved until I heard a heavy pair of footsteps coming around the corner.

Shit.

About RAVAGED:

Ari–Once an Eternal Guardian, now he’s nothing but a rogue mercenary with one singular focus: revenge. His guardian brothers all think he’s dead, but he is very much alive in the human realm, chipping away at Zeus’s Sirens every chance he can, reveling in his brutality and anonymity. Until, that is, he abducts the wrong female and his identity is finally exposed. It will take more than the Eternal Guardians, more even than the gods to rein Ari in after everything he’s done. It may just take the courage of one woman willing to stand up to a warrior who’s become a savage.

Risk It
Rule Breakers # 4

By: Jennifer Chance

RISK IT

Blurb

Jennifer Chance’s Rule Breakers series turns up the heat as a wealthy playboy and a beautiful con artist engage in a high-stakes game of seduction.

As dominating in business as he is in bed, Rand Sterling Winston IV always gets what he wants. And even before he realizes that she’s scammed him into paying triple the cost for her friend’s painting, he wants Dani Michaels. To catch her alone, Rand demands that she personally deliver his purchase. The attraction between them is immediate and electric, and he knows she feels it, too. So when the part-time petty thief rebuffs his advances, he gives her a choice: a night in jail or an evening with him.

Excerpt:

From the tousled curls of his jet-black hair, and his sculpted lips and cheekbones, to the drape of the One-Percenter suit beneath his gorgeous wool coat, everything about Rand Sterling Winston IV was icy perfection. Even the sidewalk salt on his shoes looked like decorator frosting. Still, Dani would bet serious money that the man’s veneer was as fake as her knockoff Blahniks, meticulously designed to hide his true colors. She didn’t know what danger lurked behind Winston’s aloof facade, but it snagged her attention, making it almost impossible for her to focus on anything else. The guy was like black ice, she decided. Cold and slick on the surface, dark and dirty underneath. The perfect kind of target for a frigid Boston night.

Glancing up from her papers, Dani looked past Winston once more to the wall of paintings beyond, completely unsurprised to feel the man’s gaze narrow on her across the room. Frauds knew when they were being checked out. So did control freaks. She amended her assessment to add that to the tally of Winston’s impressive list of qualities.

Still, that stare was her cue. Clutching her clipboard officiously, she stepped out from behind the counter to stride across the gallery floor. Just as she reached Tall, Dark, and Loaded, however, she met his gaze for half a second, then veered out of the way.

“Miss.”

He hadn’t expected to have to speak to get her attention, she knew. His beautiful face looked more surprised than it probably had at any point in the last six months. Score one for her side. “I’m sorry, sir,” Dani said. “If you’ll excuse me. I have to remove a painting.”

“Remove one?” He frowned at her, the sheer command in his voice keeping her in place as much as the subtle shift of his body. He was taller than she’d expected. At five foot ten without the stilettos, Dani wasn’t used to having anyone look down at her, and she didn’t have to feign the chilliness of her smile as Winston blocked her path, reminding her of her initial evaluation of him. Black ice could be deceptive, too, and Silver Spoon seemed a lot more treacherous up close than he had from across the room. Her pulse was thrumming now, all senses on alert.

“Yes. Now, if you’ll excuse me—”

Winston’s smile curved the edge of his mouth, his eyes predatory. “But the showing has only just started. Surely you can’t have a buyer so soon.”

Dani’s return smile was all teeth. “I apologize, but”—she waved her hand over her clipboard —“I’m afraid we do. A bid for twice this piece’s stated price has come in from one of our wealthiest patrons.” She turned and studied the painting dispassionately. “He was quite insistent that it come off the wall immediately.”

“I seriously doubt he is your wealthiest patron here tonight.” The cool, condescending voice dripped money, but it wasn’t Winston who spoke this time. Dani glanced over to his lapdog, surprised to see intelligence flicker in the woman’s jaded eyes. “Except we only stopped in because of the wind, and now we’re leaving.”

Dani lifted her own eyebrow in perfect counterpoint. “I am so relieved to hear that.”

“Why that piece?”

She turned back to her mark, who wasn’t looking at her anymore, but at the small painting on the wall. “It’s amateurish at best.”

“Raw, I believe were his words. Yes . . .” Dani returned her gaze to the wall with equal gravity. “Dark. Forbidden.” She sensed the moment when Winston’s attention slipped off the painting and rested once more on her face. She met his cold eyes without flinching, her manner still polite but firm. “Who’s to say what captures an art lover’s interest though? Now thank you, but I must—”

“Triple the price.” His voice was bored, but Dani froze. Just as her own internal script demanded, her mouth opened in a soft O before she attempted speech again.

“I’m sorry, sir?”

“Rand . . .” Ice Barbie was tugging at his arm. “We’re already late.”

But Rand ignored her. He pulled a card out of his jacket, which he flourished at Dani. When she didn’t make a move for it, he slid it onto her clipboard. Even his fingers were beautiful, she realized. Long and hard and cruel. “I’m certain I have an account with this gallery,” he said. “If not, I will by morning. I’d like to have the painting marked as sold, to me, immediately. You can keep it on the wall.”

“Ahhh, of course Mister, hmmm . . .” Dani frowned down at the card, knowing she had already won. Now she was just pushing her luck, pretending not to recognize Rand’s name when surely she would have heard of him, if she was really an employee of the gallery. At the last minute, better judgment ruled. “Oh.” She brought her gaze up quickly, letting her eyes go wide.

“Yes, ‘Oh.’” Rand’s arm candy snorted. “Now, please, Rand, can we go?”

Rand held Dani’s gaze for a long, harrowing moment, and she forced herself not to tense up. The close was by far the most difficult part of the entire scam for her, but usually that was because she had a problem with gloating. This time, however, she wasn’t feeling cocky, exactly. Rand’s eyes were dark and challenging, the fire in their mocking depths promising the kind of pleasure Dani hadn’t experienced in a long, long time. The kind of pleasure he clearly craved, the way a drowning man craved air.

The kind of pleasure he wanted to give to her.

Black ice, baby.
