Cherry’s life growing up was nothing short of a nightmare. Having an abusive father forced her to fend for herself from an early age. Bruised and emotionally broken, she finally escaped, running straight into the comfort that Lip’s arms brought. In the beginning, everything seemed to fall into place perfectly. He made her forget the messed-up ways of her life. But secrets can’t stay neglected. They have a habit of revealing themselves regardless of the consequences. Terrified, Cherry can’t speak a word or she’ll lose it all.

Lip is no stranger to the criminal life. Growing up among convicts, he wanted nothing more than to show his worth. He’ll do anything for the club without question, including serving six years in prison. But nobody could have predicted life’s plan. Rugged, tattooed, and wanting nothing more than to have Cherry, Lip is no longer the man whom Cherry remembers. After his release, he came out a beast with more secrets and lies than his cage could hold.

Review

This is the 4th installment in The Devil’s Dust series and I swear each book gets better and better.

We read bout Lip and Cherry in previous books and they definitely have had my interested piqued since then.

“Something you should know about me, babe: I’m a rule-breaker”

Cherry didn’t have an easy life growing up.  But she never gave up.  Lip had always grown up in the MC world.  He lives and breathes for his club.  These two have one hell of a passionate relationship.

While Lip is doing his time in prison, he changes.  But that doesn’t make any of the feelings Cherry feels for him falter – she wants every part of him.

“I know in my head I should give you up, walk away. But my heart wants you, and I can’t for the life of me turn my back on you.”

I could feel everything so strongly in this book.  The angst grips at you.  The build up between was it the truth and what is a lie will have you on edge.  Just when you think you have it all figured out, BAM – another twist is thrown into the mix.

I thoroughly enjoyed every single damn page of this book!  I couldn’t put it down, even if I tried.  This series  is another favorite of mine.  I get lost with every story she writes.

M’s writing has evolved so much since her first book.  Her writing is impeccable and just continues to surprise with each book.

I can’t wait to see what she brings us next!!!

Excerpt

After he leaves, I open his wallet, reading his name, address, weight. All of it.

“Phillip DeLuca.” I taste his name running off my lips as I trace my finger over his picture. He’s so handsome. He’s the kind of guy most people would be afraid of, but not me. I want to get to know him. Lost in a daydream, my car door is yanked open.

“Where the fuck is it, bitch?”

“What?” I shriek as I’m pulled out of the car and slammed forward onto the hot hood. “I don’t have anything!” I scream, trying to pull free. He shoves me back down on the hood. His hand tangled in my hair.

“Don’t think about moving,” he spits, his tone harsh. I roll my eyes and continue leaning over the hood. My heart slams against my chest in pure panic, and my hands shake. He pulls away and leans in to the car. Within seconds, he finds his wallet. Shit.

He peers at me with a fierce energy in his eyes. The intensity has me pulling off the hood, scared out of my mind.

“You have some balls,” he mutters, shoving his wallet back in his pocket. His tone is soft and tender suddenly. I turn my head and eye him angrily.

“Fuck you.” I cross my arms and lean my hip against the car. My choice of words more confident than I’m feeling.

He steps up to me and grabs my hips hard with both hands. My skin burns, and my mouth parts with desire. His brown eyes find mine, and his hands yank my body closer to his. I feel like all the air is sucked from my lungs as I search his dark eyes. Placing my hands on his solid chest to steady myself, my palms buzz with excitement.

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” He looks me up and down and leans in close. “You’d like it if I pushed you over the hood of this car and fucked you ‘til your legs gave out.” His words feather against my lips, he’s so close. I hold my breath, willing my body to pull away, but I don’t move. Just when I think he’s going to kiss me, he grabs my hand and pulls it upward. I furrow my brows and watch as he pulls a pen from his back pocket, pulling the cap off with his teeth. He writes his number and the word ‘Lip’ on my hand.

“Call me. Don’t make me come find you, Cherry.”

“Cherry?” I ask out loud.

“Your swimsuit,” he yells over his shoulder before starting his bike. I look down at my white shirt noticing my cherry bikini peeking out from the bust line. A smile creeps across my face. I know I shouldn’t like him, but I kind of do. Driving past me, he winks and I swear I sigh like a damn fool.

Cover Design: Rebecca Marie at The Final Wrap
It was complicated, it was
also just the beginning.
A decision.
A simple choice.
There is always that one
moment in life where things could have been different. That one moment where
you could have chosen a path that would lead you down a certain road.
A different life.
It was easier to pretend that
we were still best friends, and that she was my girl and I was her boy.
Pretending was better than
knowing the truth…
I. Ruined. Us.
I had her.
I lost her.
I love her.
All I did was complicate us.

 REVIEW

Ok, so first off, I must admit that shamelessly this is the first book I have ever read by the lovely M. Robinson.  I know, I know – I am a complete tool for just now getting my shit together and reading something by her.  However, I will be rectifying that!

Anyway – Complicate Me was absolutely amazing.  My only small issue was certain parts felt as if they sort of dragged on, but it wasn’t enough to make me stop reading altogether.  I truly understand that without everything being told as is, the story would have made such a huge impact on me like it did.

“Our first kiss was our beginning and n some ways ours end.  This is where our complicated love began.”

I won’t give much of the plot away.  I hate when things for me are spoiled in a review and takes away that feeling you get while you are reading cause you know what’s going to happen.  But I will say that M. wrote this book beautifully.  I love how she wrapped pieces of the future into the past – a foreshadowing.

I have to say that I really connected to these characters.  I was able to feel their emotions as everything played.  I felt the connection between all of them.  Even though we only got to know Lucas/Bo and Alex/Half-pint, you still felt a strong connection to the other characters.  And that says a lot about the author and their writing.

“You can’t pretend to be something you’re not.  It doesn’t matter if no one understands it, at the end of the day if you’re happy then to hell with everyone else.”

I absolutely enjoyed this story so much.  I laughed hard (like serious belly laughs), cried (freaking ugly tears down my cheeks) and everything else in between.  At one point, I had to stop reading because I couldn’t see my through my tears.  This book just really made me feel everything and made me feel it deep.

I normally need a story with a really good plot and action to keep me enthralled.  But this book, the characters and their past are what kept me hooked.  I had to see what happened in their lives and where they ended up.

“My Good Ol’ Boys”

And I am looking forward to reading the next book.  And the many more after that!!!

My brown eyed girl sat on our blankets with her arms wrapped around her knees, hiding her face. The tiny frame that I adored so much shook uncontrollably, only heightening the deepest sobbing that escalated with each passing second. It was such an intimate moment, not to be shared with anyone, especially me. Alex didn’t cry. I watched her bawl for the first time in my life. I had never seen anyone cry like that before, and it shook me to my core, slicing me whole, and making me feel like I was dying. Carving a memory that I would take to my grave.
There was no going back…
No erasing.
No do overs.
No deleting.
What I witnessed tonight would be my purgatory; I would now close my eyes and forever see her falling apart in front of me. Shattering before my very own eyes and I found it hard to breathe.
Hard to move.
My feet were glued to the goddamn floor as she continued to weep, sob, bawl, violently sucking in air that wasn’t available. I accepted it all; each tear that fell from her face becoming pieces of me. Circulating through my veins and blood, it flowed endlessly, a river of her sadness and sorrow and of my broken promises. No beginning or ending to her cries, just an infinite current, flooding the hole
where my heart should be. The shadow of her trembling petite body reflected off
the walls, leaving a trail of regrets in its wake.
Mine.
Hers.
Ours.
Growing up in a small town you overheard a lot of things. People talking, stories told, town gossip. You listened a lot. You learned a lot. Tourists, townies, friends, and especially family all shared wisdom and advice that you think you will never need.
Bunch of bullshit.
They say you have that one moment in life where things could have been different, that one moment that changes the course of your life or the direction you could have taken. That one moment that could forever change you and everything you wanted to be true,
everything you wanted to believe.
One simple decision could
alter your entire future.
My entire world.
I would forever remember this moment for the rest of my life. This is the moment that changed everything. This is the moment where I took another direction, another road that led me to my own demise. My own regrets.  I should have walked in there. I should have apologized. I should have begged for her forgiveness. I should have promised that I would never hurt her again. I should have done whatever it took to make her look at me the way she had our entire lives.
But I didn’t…
I did none of those things…
Not one.
Nothing was said between us.
No words.
No actions.
I was a coward and couldn’t do it. I couldn’t see her like that. I couldn’t look into her eyes and know that I had hurt her. That I had disappointed her. That I ruined her love and lost her respect for me.
The boy who promised he would never hurt her.
The boy who swore he would always protect her.
The boy who vowed he would never let anything happen to her.
That same boy was me.
I was the reason she was bawling.
I was the reason she was hurt.
I was the reason she was broken.
She knew the truth. It had finally caught up to me… I shattered her illusion that I was hers. I ruined the one good thing I had in my life. The girl that owned my heart was bleeding out for me in a way that I had never seen before. The house was no longer our safe place.
I had brought my hurricane with me…
I couldn’t risk the possibility of losing her permanently if I walked in there and admitted my truths. She wouldn’t love me anymore, she wouldn’t look at me the same anymore, and she wouldn’t be mine anymore.
My brown eyed girl.
The girl that I had loved all of my life.
The same girl that I would
love for the rest of my life.
Alexandra.
I gave her the only comfort I could in her moment of despair. I turned around and left. I walked down the stairs and got into my truck. I turned the engine on and drove my sorry ass home. I took a shower and never once looked at myself in the mirror. I pretended that nothing changed. That I didn’t cause her pain, and that she didn’t know the truth. That I didn’t see her sobbing and that she wasn’t even bawling to begin with. That we were still just best friends, and that she was
my girl and I was her boy.
My Half-Pint and her Bo.
It was better than knowing…
I ruined us.

Kiss from a Highlander (The Georgian Rebel Series~Book One)

Taming His Rebel Lady (The Georgian Rebel Series~Book Two)

by Jane Godman

About Kiss for a Highlander: A passio n that burns away centuries of hate…
Stranded in the heart of England after Bonnie Prince Charlie’s hasty retreat, highlander Fraser Lachlan has sworn to stay by his injured friend’s side. But when a kindly English family takes Jack in to be cared for by the governess and healer at their Derbyshire estate, Fraser can only watch helplessly.

It’s just a matter of time before Jack is turned over to the Crown as a traitor, but Fraser’s attempt to rescue his friend is met with the blunt end of a candlestick.

Martha Wantage wears every reason she hates the Scots on her body—in the scars from a violent, fiery attack that killed her family. Now she has not only one unconscious Jacobite rebel at her mercy, but two. And she can’t resist cursing her enemy with the “kiss of hate”.

That kiss unleashes a storm of passion that rages quickly out of control. But with the legacy of Martha’s scars weighing heavy on her mind, and Fraser’s duty calling him to battle at Culloden, it may be too late to explore whether theirs is a desire born of hate…or love.

Warning: Contains a very sexy, masterful highlander and a demure, but defiant, governess who discovers the hard—very hard—way exactly what a Scotsman keeps under his kilt.

Excerpt: A Kiss for a Highlander

Half an hour later, Martha hardly recognized the tall, powerfully built man who strode into her kitchen through the open back door. It was only the bandage on his head and his badly cut hair that alerted her to his identity. Somehow, the severely cut breeches, shirt and jerkin Tom had lent him only accentuated the breadth of Fraser’s shoulders and the strong muscles of his thighs. It was plain from his expression, however, that he did not approve of his new attire.

He plucked at the cloth of his breeches with distaste. “I look like a cursed lowlander. ’Tis unmanly and a reproach to my heritage for me to appear in public without my sporran, kilt and dirk.”

Privately deciding that Fraser had far too much manliness for any garment, Martha disregarded this comment. “Sit here while I cut your hair and shave you,” she said, indicating a seat at the kitchen table.

He regarded her with suspicion. “Must I present my throat to you while you’ve a blade in your hand, wee crabbit one?”

“Yes, and I do wish you’d stop calling me that. I lived in Northumberland until ten years ago. I know exactly what it means.”

“Aye, ill-tempered, unpleasant and all-round disagreeable.” He grinned, a gleam of genuine humour in his eyes. “It suits you just fine.”

Ignoring the look she threw at him, he took a seat and, leaning his elbows on the table, made no further comment while she removed his bandages and trimmed his hair into a semblance of order. The red-gold curls clustered close into the nape of his neck and over his ears, and Martha concentrated on her task rather than his proximity. He smelled of masculinity. It was a warm, earthy, musky scent that was out of place in her kitchen. Whenever she moved into the line of his vision, she was conscious of his unwavering stare on her face.

“Northumberland was once a part of the kingdom of Scotland,” Fraser said. Martha gritted her teeth and did not respond. “Aye, and is it not true that the Northumbrians are known for their wild and revolutionary ways? Before the stabilising influence of a Scottish king on the English throne, was it not known as the most lawless county in the land?”

“At least we know who our enemies are, unlike the highland clansmen who seem determined to annihilate each other,” she said.

His jaw tensed at that, and he lapsed into silence so that the only sound for several minutes was the click of Martha’s scissor blades.

“How old are you?” he asked. The question was so unexpected that the scissors made a jumpy arc that came perilously close to his ear before Martha got them back under control.

“That has nothing to do with you,” she said in her best teacher’s voice. He waited, and eventually she capitulated. After all, what did it matter? “I am six and twenty.”

“Past the marriageable age, ’tis true, but not quite at your last prayers. Why is it that you try so hard to appear older?”

That was going too far. No-one had ever spoken to her that way before. Ignoring the peculiar lump his words brought to her throat, she attempted to change the subject. “Where are your other clothes?”

“Why?” He leaned back slightly, watching her now that she had finished her task.

“They will give your identity away. I don’t want them to be discovered.”

A savage fire blazed gold in the hazel depths of his eyes. “That’s right. They are my identity. I’ll not let you dispose of the only things I have left of my name, my pride and my honour.”

“I was going to offer to wash them and store them safely until you are able to wear them again,” Martha said placidly. “Believe it or not, I do know the significance of the kilt and the tartan to your countrymen.”

The fierce look faded slightly. “You grew up on Lord Jack’s estate, at St. Anton?”

“Yes, on the northern part of the estate, close to Bamburgh. My father had land there and farmed cattle.” She didn’t need to explain what that meant. Although Fraser was a highlander and, therefore, hailed from an area far to the north of the border between England and Scotland, he would know and understand the practice of reiving. Conflict between the kingdoms of England and Scotland was as ancient as the lands themselves, and cross-border conflict was bloody, brutal and relentless. Families living on either side of Hadrian’s Wall existed in the certain knowledge that bloodshed, treachery and grief would come their way. The border traditions, passed down through generations, did not die out when King James I, great-great-grandfather of Bonnie Prince Charlie, to whom Fraser had sworn allegiance, united the two crowns. Reiving—raiding for cattle, sheep and anything else that could be transported—was a way of life that continued unabated. But theft was the lesser evil of reiving. Murder, rape and kidnap were all part of daily life on the border.

“Tell me about the reivers who hurt you.” His voice held more compassion than she would have imagined possible. What had wrought this odd change in his approach? Never trust a Scotsman. Her father’s words rang in her ears. It was sound advice, and yet Fraser seemed genuinely interested. He had a knack of triggering a chain of warring emotions in her breast. It was most unnerving.

Martha bent her head, unable to speak. Instead of trying, she busied herself by picking up the knife in preparation for shaving him, but her hand shook so hard that the blade was a silver blur. Fraser watched her thoughtfully, then reached out and clasped her wrist. Carefully, he removed the knife from her grasp.

“On second thoughts, perhaps it might be best if I do that myself?”

About TamiTamingHisRebelLady300ng His Rebel Lady: Can the heat of passion burn too bright?

In the six months since the Jacobites met defeat at Culloden, the English have ruthlessly routed the remaining rebels. Now Sir Edwin Roxburgh rides to claim Cameron House, his reward for his loyalty to the king.
His welcome comes at the point of a sword. It’s only after a fierce fight that Edwin discovers that underneath the banned tartan, the “boy” he’s just wounded is none other than the lady of the house.
If the crown thinks Lady Iona Cameron will allow an English soldier to turn her out of her own home, the crown is sadly mistaken. She never thought her desperate attempt to defy authority would send her to a traitor’s death—unless she agrees to marry Roxburgh.
Edwin quickly realizes he has his hands full trying to control the fiery, rebellious widow—and trying to control his own desire to fill his arms with her beautiful body. But he has a dark past that makes love not only impossible, but dangerous—especially if Iona manages to slip past his guard.

Warning: Contains a rebellious heroine with a secret identity, and a hero with a secret past who’s determined to tame her wild ways. Be warned: his methods are erotically unusual.

Excerpt: Taming His Rebel Lady

He had been fighting for his life for the last ten minutes, yet in spite of this Edwin Roxburgh was still grudgingly able to admire the skill of his opponent. It was rare for him to find someone whose dexterity and determination matched his own. Now, after possibly the fiercest sword fight of his life, Edwin could finally sense his opponent weakening. Unable to see clearly in the darkness, he had assumed that his opponent was only a boy since he was a slender youth, whose head barely reached Edwin’s shoulder. It made this unprovoked attack all the more surprising.

Presumably the lad’s motive was robbery. Although they were far from the main highways and a lone rider with no luggage could hardly be expected to yield any great gain. Heaven help me, Edwin thought as he swung his sword in response to a forward thrust. I have been accosted by a robber who is stupid enough not to know that and also seems hell-bent on murdering me.

“Have done with this foolishness, lad.” The words came out between panting breaths. “Throw down your weapon. I’ve no wish to kill you.”

The response was a desperate lunge. His assailant’s sword point came within a whisper of Edwin’s chest, and he swore furiously. It was time to end this. The situation was not helped by the treacherous terrain on which they fought.

Earlier that day, Edwin had led his men through the dramatic valley of Glencoe in daylight. As darkness descended, he had left the soldiers to make camp, while he rode on ahead. The increasingly steeper ground had forced him to dismount, and he had been leading his horse up a craggy ridge of rocks known as the Devil’s Staircase when, from nowhere, a figure had hurled itself upon him from above. Cold steel had been pressed to his throat before he had been able to use the advantage of his superior size to throw his attacker to one side and draw his sword. Instead of running off, as he had expected, the boy had flung his dagger aside, and moonlight had glinted on his narrow sword as he took up a fencer’s stance. Edwin had gained a brief impression of burning hatred and anger before the lad had come at him in a whirl of movement.

Now, in a final, determined attempt to bring the encounter to an end before it resulted in either of them losing their lives, Edwin used his greater strength to drive his opponent back against the rocks. As the boy, sensing defeat, thrust wildly, Edwin feinted, and brought his sword arm up and across the boy’s right side.

The blade went neatly through the lad’s shirt and sliced across the flesh of his shoulder, piercing deep into his upper arm. It was a classic wound, intended to incapacitate, but not kill, an opponent. The lad’s blade went spinning out of his now-useless right hand, and with a hoarse cry of pain, he pitched face forward into Edwin’s arms.

Edwin dropped his sword and reached out instinctively to catch the unconscious form that fell toward him and to prevent his assailant from tumbling off the rocky ridge into oblivion. As he did, his outstretched hand caught the knitted bonnet on the lad’s head. To his horror, as the hat was swept away by his grasping fingers, a mass of soft, fragrant and unmistakably feminine curls tumbled free. Realisation hit him like a punch in the gut. His would-be murderer was not a lad at all. The person he had been fighting, and upon whom he had just inflicted a devastating stab wound, was a woman.

Blood, hot and sticky, covered his hands as he swung the unconscious girl up into his arms, carrying her to the edge of the ridge where the moonlight shone brighter. Ripping open the front of her linen shirt, he exposed the ugly wound his blade had made. A quick scan of her body also confirmed that which had, until now, seemed impossible. The flesh of her upper body gleamed pale in the silvery moonlight. Her unbound breasts and narrow waist left him with no further doubt about her gender. The outlawed tartan trews of the clansman encased her long, slim legs, and her discarded blue bonnet bore the Jacobite white cockade. Whoever she was, this girl had been dicing with death even before she had drawn her sword and challenged him.

Cursing under his breath, Edwin turned to look for his horse. The well-trained animal was waiting patiently exactly where he had been walking it when the girl had launched her assault. There was water and cloth in his saddlebags. He would tend to her injuries and then deal with the mystery of who she was. Rising to his feet, he went over to the horse to collect the items he needed.

When he returned the girl had gone.

Beautiful couple in passionate embrace at home

About PURE WICKED: A Wicked Lovers Novella

During his decade as an international pop star, Jesse McCall has lived every day in the fast lane. A committed hedonist reveling in amazing highs, globetrotting, and nameless encounters, he refuses to think about his loneliness or empty future. Then tragedy strikes.

Shocked and grieving, he sheds his identity and walks away, searching for peace. Instead, he finds Bristol Reese, a no-nonsense beauty scraping to keep her family’s business afloat while struggling with her own demons. He’s intent on seducing her, but other than a pleasure-filled night, she’s not interested in a player, especially after her boyfriend recently proposed to her sister. In order to claim Bristol, Jesse has to prove he’s not the kind of man he’s always been. But when she learns his identity and his past comes back to haunt him, how will he convince her that he’s a changed man who wants nothing more than to make her his forever?

Excerpt:

“Hungry? I tossed together some stuff for sandwiches and salads last night, using your leftovers. Hope that was all right.”

“Sure.” She normally didn’t neglect to feed her guest for over twenty-four hours. Geez, she really had been tired.

“I’ll make you a plate.”

She cocked her head at him. Hayden had never been half so helpful. Or caring. As soon as they’d begun dating, he’d expected her to feed him more often than not after cooking all day. He’d claimed that all his pencil pushing behind a desk exhausted him, so more often than not he’d preferred to end the day with a blow job. Less effort on his part than actual sex.

She and Jamie hadn’t done more than share a bed and some skin for a few hours but already he was far more considerate. Giddy little butterflies began dancing in her belly, and Bristol had to remind herself that being a nice human being didn’t mean he intended to be romantic. And they were not having a relationship.

“That would be great.” She smiled his way.

“Give me a minute and I’ll get you fed.”

“Thanks. I’m going to dry my hair now and hope that I don’t look like Medusa when I’m done.”

“I’m pretty sure that’s impossible since you’re gorgeous, but go for it.”

Bristol rolled her eyes at the compliment. “I look terrible. You don’t have to butter me up, but I appreciate it.”

As she turned for the bathroom, Jamie grabbed her wrist and snapped her around, flush against his chest. “I’m serious. I think you’re beautiful. You’re not calling me a liar, are you?”

His silky tone warned her that would be a bad idea. Bristol swallowed against the sudden tension in the air. “No. I just…”

“Don’t take compliments well?” He raised a brow at her as if he already knew the answer. “As long as I’m around, you need to start accepting them. And believing them.”

She stared up into his dark eyes in breathless disbelief. He may not be trying to romance her…but he was certainly making her heart flap and quiver. Which made her feel like a twit. She had to stop reading happily-ever-after into his nice gestures.

“Sure. Okay. Thanks.” She pulled gently at her wrist, eager to leave the room before she made an idiot out of herself.

Jamie was slow to release her. “I’ll have your food ready in ten. Then we can talk.”

What did he want to say? She’d rather they simply had sex. She didn’t find tangling between the sheets with him nearly as confusing as watching him defend her against Hayden or staring back into his eyes as he complimented her. But she had a few things to say if she was going to persuade him to go with her to dinner on Tuesday night at her mom’s house, then move on afterward.

Ransom Canyon by Jodi Thomas…Blog Tour Stop & Review

ransom

RANSOM CANYON

By New York Times Bestselling Author

Jodi Thomas

Synopsis:

Rancher Staten Kirkland, the last descendant of Ransom Canyon’s founding father, is rugged and practical to the last. No one knows that when his troubling memories threaten to overwhelm him he runs to lovely, reclusive Quinn O’Grady—or that she has her own secret that no one living knows.

Young Lucas Reyes has his eye on the prize—college, and the chance to become something more than a ranch hand’s son. But one night, one wrong decision, will set his life on a course even he hadn’t imagined.

Yancy Grey is running hard from his troubled past. He doesn’t plan to stick around Ransom Canyon, just to stay long enough to learn the town’s weaknesses and how to use them for personal gain. Only Yancy, a common criminal since he was old enough to reach a car’s pedals, isn’t prepared for what he encounters.
In this dramatic new series, the lives, loves and ambitions of four families will converge, set against a landscape that can be as unforgiving as it is beautiful, where passion, property and pride are worth fighting—and even dying—for.

My Review:

Ransom Canyon is the first book in author Jodi Thomas’ new series bearing the same name and the first work of this author that I’ve read.  With three very different story lines in one very small and quaint town, I fell in love with this book and will undoubtedly be reading the books that follow.  It was awesome.

Ms. Thomas does such a wonderful job pulling the reader into these three story lines and keeps the reader hooked through the chapters.  I loved each different character and what they were all going through at the same point in time.  It made things so interesting to read and kept me wondering what was going to happen in the end to these small town folks headed on different paths.  The characters were all interesting and I connected with each one.  There was a ton of emotion and a good deal of suspense when it came to where more than a few characters were headed and where their futures would lie.  I loved that about this book and loved that I was worried and hopeful they would all find their own versions of a happy ending.  Ms. Thomas painted a beautiful picture with each page and I loved all of it.

If you’re looking for a great read with rich characters and a small town feel, this is a book for you.  Thank you. Ms. Thomas, for an amazing story and a series I look forward to reading more of!

Accidents of Marriage by Randy Susan Meyers…Blog Tour Stop & Review

Accidents of Marriage PBAbout Accidents of Marriage

Paperback: 368 pages
Publisher: Washington Square Press; Reprint edition (June 9, 2015)

For Madeline Illica, the love of her husband Ben was her greatest blessing and biggest curse. Brilliant and charming, Ben could turn into a raging bull when crossedóand despite her training as a social worker Maddy never knew what would cross him. When Ben was in a conciliatory mood, they worked on techniques for communication and anger management, but on the day of the accident, nothing seemed to help.

Accidents of Marriage holds readers from the first page to the last.

“This novel’s unsparing look at emotional abuse and its devastating consequences gives it gravity and bite, while a glimpse into a physically damaged mind both surprises and fascinates.”—People Magazine

“A complex, captivating tale.”—Boston Globe

“A deft exploration of the borders of abuse and the aftermath of tragedy, the triumphs and disappointments of recovery, and the possibilities of faith and forgiveness.”—Star Tribune

“Unputdownable and unforgettable. I just loved it—and I’ll now read everything Randy Susan Meyers writes.”—Liane Moriarty, NYT bestselling author of The Husband’s Secret

My review:

Accidents of Marriage is the newest work from author Randy Susan Meyers and the first of her work that I’ve read. What I will say right off the bat is if you’re looking for a feel good, happy ending read, this is not that book for you. That being said, I really loved this book regardless and I have a feeling this story and these characters will stay with me for quite some time.

Maddy and Ben are a married couple with three children. Both career people, they have to balance a lot on a daily basis. One of those things is Ben’s temper that regularly rises beyond a reasonable level. All of the daily things that seem so annoying or frustrating like laundry and school lunches seem unimportant after a terrible car accident leaves Maddy in a coma and eventually navigation a long and frustrating recovery. It’s that terrible accident that gives Ben some much needed perspective. Unfortunately it comes a tad bit too late.

My heart broke for this family. It broke for their broken marriage and the children left in the wake. It broke for Maddy and her injuries. It broke for Ben who I am still really pulling for and have hopes that one day we will get an update that he and Maddy were able to work things out. Even though this was a sad story, it was also relatable in some ways. Life is hard. Marriage is hard. Parenthood is hard. We all let these things get to us and lead us to be upset at times. Saying things we don’t mean in the heat of anger or frustration. But the thing this book remind me was that no matter what, love and life are precious and should be treated as such. It reminded me that it can all change in the blink of an eye and that we should be grateful for the things we have and let the trivial things go. Take time to appreciate our loved ones because you never know what tomorrow may hold…for that I am beyond grateful that I read this book.

So again I say, if you’re looking for a happily ever ever this is not a book for you. But if you’re looking for an emotional and poignant read with a message that shouldn’t be ignored, pick this story up. I know many of you will enjoy this book as much as I did. Thank you, Ms. Meyers, for a moving tale.

Reveal by Elle Brooks….Blog Tour Stop

I used to believe in destiny.

I was six years old when I first took to the stage, and I’ve danced every day since. It’s the biggest part of who I am. The fuel that drives me forward.

My oxygen…
My life…
My soul.

The stars were perfectly aligned, and my fairy tale had slowly begun to play out like a beautifully scripted passage from a romance novel. I was all set to live my happily ever after…

Until I wasn’t.

If dancing was my heart, Daniel was the blood that kept it beating. I was content with supporting him as he worked towards his music dreams, but then he disappeared, leaving me scared, alone and suffocating under the crushing weight of his debts.

It’s said that opportunity often comes disguised as misfortune.

When one door closes, another one opens. But I wasn’t prepared for it to belong to Reveal, one of New York City’s most exclusive Burlesque Clubs.

It feels as though the universe is conspiring against me until fate thrusts two very different men into the equation. And what they have in common, no one could have predicted.

Destiny may have delivered them both, but who stays is my choice.
Excerpt from REVEAL
I don’t check the peephole. I always check it—but this time I don’t.
It’s funny how that happens.
The first time you break tradition you think it’s fine,
what bad could possibly come of it?
That’s when the shit hits the fan.
It’s like a swift kick to the stomach from the universe itself.
A not-so-subtle reminder of why you always check the peephole
before opening the door.
There’s a solid reason behind it,
and that’s what awaits me on the other side
as I fling the door open in a single reckless act.

I’m expecting Annie to be standing in front of me.

She dropped me off moments ago;

she must have forgotten something.
Only it’s not Annie.
My heart sinks in my chest, and my greeting dies on my lips,
the words suspended and unspoken.
Mr. Carter smiles a sinister smile,
sidestepping through the door and into my apartment.
“You have something for me.”

Dirty Talk by Megan Erickson…..Excerpt Tour Stop

Dirty Talk Banner

DirtyTalk REVISE

Dirty Talk Synopsis:

When the one you shouldn’t want is the one you can’t resist…

Brent Payton works hard, plays hard, and has earned his ladies’ man reputation. But he’s more than just a good time, even though no one seems to see it. Until a gorgeous brunette with knockout curves and big, thoughtful eyes walks into his family’s garage and makes Brent want more.

Ivy Dawn and her sister are done with men, all of them. They’ve uprooted their lives too many times on account of the opposite sex, but that’s over now. The plan seems easy until a sexy, dirty-taking mechanic bursts in Ivy’s life and shakes everything up.

Brent can’t resist the one person who sees past his devil-may-care façade, and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But she has secrets of her own and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she’ll run again or if she’ll take a chance on forever.

Excerpt:

There was no gentleness to the kiss. This was an unleashing.

It was glorious.

She hadn’t expected this. She’d expected heat and talent, but she hadn’t expect this . . . intensity, this chemistry between them that reacted like fireworks.

Brent lifted one of her legs to rest on the seat so he could wedge his body against her. Her head was against the window, the door handle digging into her back, but she didn’t care, not one bit, because now Brent’s hand was drifting down her neck, slowly, so slowly, his trembling fingertips skimming the skin.

He pulled out of the kiss, and she gulped air, clutching his shoulders, as he lowered his head so that his hair tickled her cheek. His hand didn’t go any lower; it just rested at her throat. She didn’t know how long they sat in that embrace until Brent’s lips moved against the skin of her neck. “Ivy?”

She swallowed, unsure her voice would work. “Yeah?”

“I’m going to go back to the driver’s side where I belong now.” There was humor in his tone.

She squeezed her eyes shut and smiled. “Okay.”

“I want you to know that I don’t want to.”

She didn’t release her grip on his shoulders. And she knew she was playing with fire when she asked the next question. “What do you want to do?”

He tensed under her palms and then lifted his head, so those beautiful eyes looked right into hers. “What do I want to do?”

She nodded.

His tongue came out and curled over the top of his teeth. She thought maybe that was all he planned to do, give her a glimpse so she had to imagine what he could do with that tongue. But then he spoke. “First, I want to lay you down on this bench, hike up this dress to your waist, take down those panties, and work you with my tongue until you come in my mouth.”

Holy shit. She was not prepared for Brent’s mouth or tongue or dirty talk in any way.

And he wasn’t done. “And then I’d put you on your knees, and I’d take out my cock, and I’d fuck you until you begged me to let you come again. I’d let you, Ivy. Maybe after that, we’d take a little catnap, and then I’d see what you looked like with your lips around my cock.”

She was about two seconds away from coming now. A stiff breeze could probably do it, with Brent’s words lingering in her ear.

Those words from any other man might have scared her. They might have angered her. But not Brent, because he was so earnest and clearly wanted her. He wasn’t trying to prove anything, like what a man he was or how fast he could get inside of her.

He made her feel like she was all that mattered right now.

Brent brushed his lips with hers. “But that’s not going to happen. At least, not tonight.”

About STRIPPED DOWN: A Blacktop Cowboys Novella:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lorelei James, a new steamy story of the Blacktop Cowboys…

Never challenge a cowboy to a little naughty competition…

A flirty game of sexual truth or dare between best man, Wynton Grant, and maid of honor, Melissa Lockhart during their BFF’s wedding reception results in a steamy hookup.

But their plans for a one and done change when a family crisis leaves Wyn shorthanded at the Grant Ranch. Experienced horsewoman Mel volunteers to help out and gets way more than she bargained for living under the same roof as the sexy rancher. Playing house has never appealed to Wyn…until now.

But the feisty redhead is keeping secrets and Wyn’s not above stripping her bare—body and soul—to get to the bottom of it…

Excerpt:

“But there’s something I’ve got to do first.” He kept ahold of Mel’s hand as they exited the dance floor.

She had no idea what was going on. When it appeared they were headed to the bar, she started crafting excuses on why she couldn’t do shots with him. But Wynton strolled right past the bar and out a rear exit.

It had gotten chilly since the sun had set. Mel shivered, wishing she’d grabbed her wrap.

Then she found herself absolutely burning up, pressed against the side of the building by two-hundred pounds of hot cowboy. Good Lord. The heat in Wynton’s eyes nearly set her skin on fire.

There was no speech about how much he wanted to kiss her. He just did it. Lowered his head and planted his mouth on hers.

He didn’t have to prove he was a passionate man by thrusting his tongue past her lips and into her throat. He proved it with tender nibbles and teasing licks. A gentle pass of his mouth. Again and again. As if he had all the time in the world.

Each time Mel parted her lips ever so slightly, breathing him in, she felt his tongue softly licking into her mouth. So when he finally kicked up the heat into a full-blown soul kiss, it seemed as if they’d been kissing for hours.

Wynton wrapped one hand around the back of her neck; his thumb stroked the bone at the base of her skull, sending tingles down her spine. He’d stretched his other arm across her back and clamped onto her right butt cheek. The hard wall of his chest pressed against hers, leaving no place to put her hands except to grip his biceps.

She was just glad she had something solid to hold on to because the way he kissed her left her breathless, boneless, and mindless.

And wet.

His mouth left hers to drag kisses down the column of her throat. “If we weren’t needed inside in like a minute, I’d already be inside you.” He stopped and breathed heavily against her skin.

Pulled Under by Sarah Darlington

Synopsis:
man-child. noun.
: a grown man who is very immature, therefor considered a man-child

manwhore. noun.
: a promiscuous man who has no regard for his sexual partners or the emotional value of his relationships

Rhett Morgan couldn’t have been more wrong for me. The guy drank beer in the shower, for crying out loud. He had no prospects for the future, had slept with half the women in our beach town of Kill Devil Hills, and had no desire to change his manwhore ways.

And when Ben Turner, the guy I had loved from afar for the past four years, died and I couldn’t get over his death, I desperately needed a distraction. A distraction like Rhett. So I used him for a one-night stand. Because, after all, that’s the only thing a guy like Rhett is good for…right?

***New Adult Romance. This novel is the third book in the Kill Devil Hills series, however it can be read as a standalone. Recommended for 18+

My Review:

Pulled Under is the third book in author Sarah Darlington’s Kill Devil Hill Series and  the first in the series I have read.  I will say that I was able to read it as a stand alone and never felt lost.  It was an enjoyable and quick read.

I really enjoyed Rhett and Sydney’s story in the beginning and most of the middle.  They were really cute together and their attraction was hot.  Rhett was really sweet in wanting to change his bad boy ways for Sydney and I thought he couldn’t have picked a better girl to do it for.  Sydney was an enjoyable character and very down to earth and drama free.  I love that in a character.  I loved how their relationship started and the road it led them on.  My only complaint was that the ending seemed a bit rushed and felt a little flat.  Still enjoyable, but left me wanting more….not necessarily a bad thing!

There is also a secondary story line happening with Sydney’s high school crush, Ben.  I’m hoping we get to hear more about it because it’s a pretty interesting and very intriguing!

Overall, this was a nice way to spend a few hours and I will be looking forward to see what Ms. Darlington has in store!

*reviewer note: I did receive an ARC and am hoping the issue with the fluctuation between a character name being spelled differently from time to time  (Shelley/Shelly) has been rectified before publication.
