A man born to protect

After a major loss, Brody Carter found a home with the London office of McKay-Taggart. A former soldier, he believes his job is to take the bullets and follow orders. He’s happy to take on the job of protecting Dr. Stephanie Gibson while the team uses her clinic in Sierra Leone to bring down an international criminal. What he never expected was that the young doctor would prove to be the woman of his dreams. She’s beautiful, smart, and reckless. Over and over he watches her risk her life to save others. One night of pure passion leads him to realize that he can’t risk his heart again. When the mission ends, Brody walks away, unwilling to lose another person he loves.

A woman driven to heal

Stephanie’s tragic past taught her to live for today. Everything she’s done in the last fifteen years has been to make up for her mistakes. Offering medical care in war-torn regions gives her the purpose she needs to carry on. When she meets her gorgeous Aussie protector, she knows she’s in too deep, but nothing can stop her from falling head over heels in love. But after one amazing night together, Brody walks away and never looks back. Stephanie is left behind…but not alone.

A secret that will change both their lives

A year later, Stephanie runs afoul of an evil mercenary who vows to kill her for failing to save his son. She runs to the only people she trusts, Liam and Avery O’Donnell. She hasn’t come alone and her secret will bring her former lover across the world to protect her. From Liberia to Dallas to Australia’s outback, Brody will do whatever it takes to protect Stephanie from the man who wants to kill her, but it might be her own personal demons that could destroy them both.

EXCERPT

The door slammed and she suddenly found herself with her back against it. Brody crowded in, taking up all the space and staring down at her. His body brushed hers and she found both her wrists captured in one of his. He dragged them over her head, forcing her chest to come out, breasts skimming along his body. “I shouldn’t do this.”

Tough chick was winning. Steph let her take over. It was surely better than the desperate girl who lived inside her. She kept asking for love and affection and getting swatted away. This was the next best thing, possibly the only thing she would ever get. “Then don’t. Let me go and I won’t bother you again.”

“No, you’ll go find Ezra Fain and bother him,” Brody said on a growl.

“Somehow, I don’t think he’ll find me a bother.” She’d barely spoken two words to the man, but she wasn’t going to admit it. It was better to let Brody think she wasn’t a love-starved girl.

“He won’t fucking find you anything at all. If you’re determined to not sleep alone tonight, you can damn well do it with me.” His mouth came down on hers and every inch of her skin came alive. His kiss was overwhelming, hungry. There was no slow meshing of mouths. He took her, his tongue surging inside and dominating her own. He let go of her hands and started to explore her body. His hands were on her hips when he came up for air. “I’m leaving in the morning. I’m going back to London and I can’t come back.”

She’d known that would probably be his answer. She’d known he wouldn’t want to stay and she couldn’t leave.

“One night. That’s all I want.” It was all she could have. It had been foolish to think it could be any different.

His mouth came down on hers again and she let herself get swept away. One night and her life would go back to normal. One night and then she would be alone again. His hands started to roam over her and she tried to forget all the reasons why this was a bad idea.

He stepped back, his entire body set in hard lines. He strode over to the bed and sat down. “Take off the gown. It’s pretty, but I want to see you.”

She hesitated, all her insecurities coming to the forefront. Somehow, she’d thought he would simply take her. “Let me get the lights.”

He was back in her space again, his hand wrapping around her wrist. “I didn’t say turn off the lights. I said take off the gown. How am I going to see you if you turn off the lights?”

“Brody,” she began.

He was having none of it. “You got on your knees in front of me and you said you knew what you were offering me. The first thing you were offering me was obedience. The second was your body. You’re giving me neither right now.”

His voice had gone midnight dark and something about the tone made her soften. He was right. She did know what she’d offered him and now she was trying to have it all her way.

There was nothing wrong with her body. It was feminine and she was healthy. What was she afraid of? “All right.”

He let go of her wrist and sat back down, looking like a damn king waiting on his concubine’s performance. For all his “I’m nothing but a grunt” talk, the man could be incredibly arrogant, and damn if she didn’t find it sexy as hell.

Something about that voice let her know that everything was going to be fine. He was past the point of rejection. He was in and that meant he would play her Dom for the night. He would take care of her. She was as safe with him in the bedroom as she’d been in the field.

At least she was safe for the night. In the morning she would be in a world of hurt, but she wasn’t thinking past tonight.

Ok – I am just going to talk about the huge elephant in the room first on this one – what is with the cover?!?! I hate saying it, but WHY??? This cover is just hideous and reminds me of the romance novels I used to see in grocery stores as a kid that had me running over to Steven King books going “OMG, why can’t those books look like you?” Thank god the story is WAY better than the cover.

So please – do not judge this book by its cover. Because it is way off basis on the awesomeness that is Love Another Day. Now onto the book.

Love Another Day is Brody’s story involving the lovely doctor, Stephanie Gibson. I have been waiting for this story for who knows how long. For whatever reason, I took a huge interest in Brody. As for Stephanie, she sort of annoyed me and this book showed why. Don’t get me wrong, she’s an awesome doctor, but her woe is me attitude constantly annoyed the shit out of me.

There was a lot more BDSM in this book than in the last few books and that was nice breath of fresh air for me. I love the suspense and dramatics but with this couple, their relationship definitely needed more the BDSM element than the dramatics. And Lexi wrapped everything up beautifully in the end for these two.

Do I really need to reiterate how awesome Lexi is and her writing abilities?!? Especially when it comes to BDSM mixed with an amazing suspenseful plot?? Lexi has definitely found her niche in the writing department. And I love that she never repeats anything – no schexmy scenes, plot twists are always new and exciting and the characters are all unique (aside from the alpha part – but again, their different in ways). And lets be honest, that is damn hard to do after so many books, but this is book 14!!! And I am not bored yet!!

Bring on Tucker’s book, cause the man has me all too excited for his story!

I am truly loving this series so much. And for me, that’s a huge thing. I tend to lose interest in series when they get past book 4, even if there are different characters in each book. I find that the author gets repetitive in things and that kills it for me. I hate admitting it, but that’s what happen with Kristen’s first series for me. But that is definitely not the case with this series, so far anyways.

The Beauty of Us is Riley’s story. She’s the brains behind Seduction and how to came to fruition and also their PR now. She and her other 4 best friends have made Seduction become the “IT” place in their area.

Riley has recently gotten back into the dating game, but has had some really terrible dates and when rehashing, they are quite entertaining. One night, she returns to their restaurant and recants her latest, but not so quaint, date. As she’s explaining how horrible her date was, a lone gentleman at the bar chimes in with a few words of advice of her, in a very comical way.

As he’s leaving, she finds out it’s the producer of the show that will be featuring their restaurant. To say she was mortified, is putting it mildly. And everything just gets better from there for these two.

These two try to deny the attraction between them, but honestly, when something is that electrifying without trying, you have to see what’s really there. One thing that I absolutely love was how this love blossomed from friendship and moved naturally onto more at the perfect pace – no insta-love or huge hurdles to overcome either. It was beautiful.

Kristen added the right touch of humor to this book and made it so real. It’s impossible to not feel what these characters go through. You understand where they are both coming from and Trevor was the perfect gentleman. I can’t say enough as to how well Kristen writes her characters.

Another great book in this series. And finally my fave lady of them all is up – MIA!! And with that epilogue at the end, I can see that Mia’s story is going to be good one!!

~TREVOR~

“So, THIS WAS a good date,” Riley says later as I drive her home. She rode to work with Addie so I could take her home after our date.
“I’m glad you approve,” I reply, and kiss the back of her hand. “Now, I won’t be calling or texting for three days.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s how it’s done.” I sigh and shrug, as if to say, What can I do? Riley chuckles.
“Well, then I’ll text the girls ‘I hate this guy,’ and then you’ll text and I’ll be all, ‘Never mind. He just texted.’”
“Yes, I believe you’re familiar with how this works.”
“Well,” she says. “I’m not really much of a drama girl. You should just go ahead and call or text whenever you want to.”
“Really? You’re not one for drama? I seem to remember someone barging into my apartment last night, yelling at me, because her date didn’t go well.”
I’m only human, Trevor,” she says with a smile. “I never claimed to be perfect.”
I laugh as she points out her driveway and I pull in, then escort her up to her door.
“I had fun,” she says.
“You sound surprised.”
“Pleasantly surprised,” she says. “Do you want to come in?”
“yes,” I reply, and cage her in against the door. “But I’m not going to.”
She swallows hard. “You aren’t?”
“No.” I kiss her forehead.
“Why not?” It’s a whisper now.
“Because this is the first date,” I remind her, and kiss her cheek. “So I’m going to be a gentleman and say good night right here on your porch.”
“Well, damn.”
I grin and nudge her face up to mine, and let myself sink into her, our lips tangled. She fists her hands in my shirt at my sides, holding on tight, and giving back as good as she gets. She lifts up higher on her toes and presses her breasts to my chest, and fuck me, it’s all I can do not to scoop her up., take her inside, and fuck her into the mattress.
Instead, I pull back gently, regretfully.
“Thank you for tonight,” I murmur, and watch with humor as she struggles to open her eyes. The attraction is definitely not one-sided.
“Okay,” she says, and touches her lips with her fingertips. “I mean, you’re welcome. And thank you.” She smiles, opens her door, and slips inside.
And just like that, she’s gone.
But I can faintly hear her say, “Holy shit,” on the other side of the door.
No, she’s not immune to me either.

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

About If There’s No Tomorrow

Hardcover: 384 pages

Publisher: Harlequin Teen (September 5, 2017)

Lena Wise is always looking forward to tomorrow, especially at the start of her senior year. She’s ready to pack in as much friend time as possible, to finish college applications, and to maybe let her childhood best friend Sebastian know how she really feels about him. For Lena, the upcoming year is going to be epic—one of opportunities and chances.

Until one choice, one moment, destroys everything.

Now Lena isn’t looking forward to tomorrow. Not when friend time may never be the same. Not when college applications feel all but impossible. Not when Sebastian might never forgive her for what happened.

For what she let happen.

With the guilt growing each day, Lena knows that her only hope is to move on. But how can she move on when she and her friends’ entire existences have been redefined? How can she move on when tomorrow isn’t even guaranteed?

Excerpt:

It was too early for this crap.

Standing behind Megan, I was hoping I could just blend into the wall and be forgotten. Then I could lie down and take a nap. Sebastian had stayed to three in the morning, and I was way too tired to do anything remotely physical.

Coach Rogers, also known as Sergeant Rogers or Lieutenant First Class Jerk Face, crossed his arms. He face held a permanent scowl. I’d never seen him smile. Not even when we made it to the play offs last year.

He was also the ROTC drill instructor, so he treated us like we were in boot camp. Today was going to be no different.

“Hit the bleachers,” he ordered. “Ten sets.”

Sighing, I reached up and tugged on the tail of my hair, tightening the ponytail as Megan bounced around, facing me. “Whoever finishes last has to buy the other a smoothie after practice.”

The corners of my lips turned down. “That’s not fair. You’re going to finish first.”

“I know.” Giggling, she tore off toward the indoor bleachers.

Reaching down, I tugged on my black practice shorts and then resigned myself to death by bleacher.

The team hit the metal seats. Sneakers pounded as we worked our way up. At the top row, I smacked the wall as expected. If we didn’t do it, we’d be starting all over. Back down I went, gaze focused on the rows in front of me as my knees and arms pumped. By the fifth round, the legs in my muscles burned, along with my lungs.

I almost died.

More than once.

Once it was over, my legs felt like jelly as I joined Megan on the court. “I’d like a strawberry banana smoothie,” she said, her face flushed pink. “Thank you.”

“Shut up,” I muttered breathlessly as I glanced over to the bleachers. At least I wasn’t last. I twisted back to her. “I’m getting McDonalds.”

Megan snorted as she fixed her shorts. “Of course you are.”

“At least I’m eating eggs,” I reasoned. I’d probably have hell of a lot toner legs and stomach if I got that smoothie after practice instead of the egg mcmuffin and hash brown I was planning to do bad, bad things to.

She wrinkled her nose. “I don’t think those kind of eggs count.”

“That’s sacrilegious to even utter.”

“I don’t think you know what that word means,” she replied.

“I don’t think you know when to shut up.”

Tipping her blonde head back, Megan laughed. Sometimes I wondered how we’d become such close friends. We were polar opposites. She didn’t read unless it was flirting tips in Cosmo or the weekly horoscopes in the magazines her mom had around the house. I, of course, read every book I got my hands on. I was going to be applying for financial aid, and she had a major college fund. Megan only ate McDonalds if she’d been drinking, which wasn’t often, and I ate McDonalds so much I was on a first name basis with the lady who worked the window in the morning.

Her name was Linda.

Megan was more outgoing than me, more willing to try new things, while I was the person always weighing the pros and cons before doing something, finding more cons than there were pros to almost every activity. Megan seemed years younger than seventeen, oftentimes acting like a hyper kitten climbing curtains. She was downright goofy half the time. But what seemed like cluelessness was only surface deep. She was an ace at math without even having to try. On the outside, she appeared to take nothing serious, but she was as bright as she was bubbly.

We both planned—or hoped—to get into UVA, prayed that we’d get housed together, and strived to give Dary the hardest possible time, with love, every day of our lives.

Deciding I was going to order two hash browns and eat them right in front of her face, I cut in front of her as we walked to where our captain was waiting.

Practice was grueling.

Since it was pre-season and a Friday, it was all calisthenics. Lunges. Squats. Suicide sprints. Jumps. Nothing made me feel more out of shape than these kinds of practices. I was dragging ass by the time we wrapped up, sweating in places I didn’t even want to think about.

“Seniors, I need you guys to stick around for a few minutes,” Coach Rogers called out. “Everyone else can head out.

Megan shot me a look as we lumbered to our feet. My stomach ached a little from the sit-ups, so I concentrated on not bending over and crying like a teething baby.

“Our first game is a couple of weeks off, as is our first tournament, but I want you all to make sure you realize how important this season is.” Coach straightened his cap, pulling the bill down. “This isn’t just your final year. This is the time that scouts will be coming to the tournaments. Many of the colleges here in Virginia and surrounding states are looking for freshmen players.”

Pressing my lips together, I loosely crossed my arms. A volleyball scholarship would be sweet. I wanted one. Was going to gun for it, but there were better girls on the team, including Megan.

The likelihood of both of us landing positions at UVA was slim.

“I cannot stress how important your performance will be this season,” Coach droned on. His dark gaze lingered on me in a way that made me feel like he’d noticed just how crappy my sprints had been. “You’re not going to get a do-over. You’re not going to get second chances to impress these scouts. There isn’t a next year.”

Megan’s gaze slid toward mine and her brows lifted about an inch. This was a wee bit dramatic.

Coach went on and on about good life choices or something, and then he was done. Dismissed, our group made our way toward the remaining burgundy and white gym bags.

Megan bumped her shoulder into mine as she reached to grab her water from the top of her bag. “You kind of sucked today.”

“Thanks,” I replied, mopping the sweat off my forehead with the back of my hand. “I feel so much better after hearing that.”

She grinned around the rim of the bottle, but before she could respond, the coach yelled out my last name. “Oh crap,” Megan whispered, widening her eyes.

Swallowing a groan, I pivoted around and jogged over to where he was standing near the net we often had to repeatedly jump in front of. When Coach used your last name, it was a lot like your mom using your full name.

Coach Rogers’s neatly trimmed beard was more salt than pepper, but the man was fit and more than intimidating. He could run those bleachers in half the time Megan could, and right now, he looked like it wanted to order me to do another set of ten. If he did, it would be RIP Lena.

“I was watching you today,” he said.

Oh no.

“Didn’t look like your head was in practice.” He crossed his arms, and I knew I was in for it. “Are you still working at Joanna’s?”

Tensing because we’ve had this conversation before, I nodded. “I closed last night.”

“Well, that explains a lot. You know how I feel about you working when you have practice,” he said.

Yes, I did know. Coach Rogers didn’t think anyone who played sports should work because work was a distraction. “It’s just during the summer.” That was kind of a lie, because I planned to work weekends during the school year. I needed to keep my McDonalds fund fluffy, but he really didn’t need to know any of that. “I’m sorry about practice. I’m just a little tired—”

“A lot tired by the looks of it,” he cut in with a sigh. “You were forcing yourself through every set.”

I guess I wasn’t going to get credit for that effort.

He lifted his chin and stared down at his nose at me. Coach was a beast during practice and the games, but most days I liked him. He cared about his players. Really cared. Last year, he organized a fundraiser for one of the students whose family lost everything in a house fire. I knew he was against animal cruelty, because I saw him wearing an ASPC shirts. But right now, in this moment, I did not like the man at all.

“Look,” he continued. “I know things are tight at home, especially with your father….well, with all of that.”

Clenching my teeth until my jaws ached, I fixed a blank expression on my face. Everyone knew about my dad. It sucked living in a small town.

“And you and your mom could use the extra cash, I get that, but you really need to look at the big picture here. Take these practices more seriously, dedicate more time, and you can up your playing this year. Maybe catch the eye of a scout,” he said. “Then you get a scholarship. Less aid. That’s what you need to be focused on—your future.”

Even though I knew he meant well, I wanted to tell him that my mom and I and my future were really none of his business. But I didn’t say that. I just shifted my weight from one foot to the next, picturing the greasy hash brown in my head.

Oh my God, I was going to smother that baby with ketchup.

“You have talent.”

I blinked. “Really?”

His expression softened a bit as he clapped a hand down on my shoulder. “I think you have a shot at landing a scholarship.” He squeezed gently. “Just keep your eye on tomorrow. Work for it, and there’ll be nothing standing in the way. You understand?”

“I do.” I glanced over to where Megan waited. “A scholarship would be… it would help a lot.”

A way lot.

It would be nice not to spend a decade or more after college working myself out of student loan hell I’d already been warned about.

“Then make it happen, Lena.” Coach Rogers dropped his hand. “You’re the only person standing in your way.”

Project Pandora by Aden Polydoros….Blog Tour & Review

Project Pandora (Assassin Fall #1)

by Aden Polydoros

Publication Date:  August 1, 2017

Publisher:  Entangled Teen

Tyler Bennett trusts no one. Just another foster kid bounced from home to home, he’s learned that lesson the hard way. Cue world’s tiniest violin. But when strange things start happening—waking up with bloody knuckles and no memory of the night before or the burner phone he can’t let out of his sight— Tyler starts to wonder if he can even trust himself.

Even stranger, the girl he’s falling for has a burner phone just like his. Finding out what’s really happening only leads to more questions…questions that could get them both killed. It’s not like someone’s kidnapping teens lost in the system and brainwashing them to be assassins or anything, right? And what happens to rogue assets who defy control?

In a race against the clock, they’ll have to uncover the truth behind Project Pandora and take it down—before they’re reactivated. Good thing the program spent millions training them to kick ass…

I was intrigued by the premise of Project Pandora and as always, I love reading new authors. This is Aden’s debut novel, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. And for his debut novel, I think Aden did a decent job.

Project Pandora isn’t exactly a YA romance as the blurb seems to make you think it is. It’s definitely more YA thriller/Sci-Fi with a touch a romance added to it, which I didn’t mind at all. I really enjoyed the idea of this book, it was the delivery that pulled me back from this loving this book. And this book is told from 4 POV’s and not just the two mentioned in the blurb, so that was a little misleading too.

This book is told in third person, which is ok for me. But when there are 4 POV’s in third person, it gets a little difficult to figure out who’s POV I was reading because I had a hard time finding the differences between the characters and their thoughts. When telling a story in third person, there will be a lot of inner dialogue. However, in this book there was a lot of purple prose and that hurt the flow of the book for me. I found myself getting bored at times and wanting to skim through parts just so I could see what happened next.

The thrill and mystery of this book is what made me give it 3 1/2 stars. While I may have skimmed parts because they felt too long, it was the plot that didn’t make me stop reading. I needed to know where the story was going and what would happen next. It was intriguing and could see this easily being made into a movie.

Overall, it was good read. I didn’t ever feel the need to stop, I just wish I could have read less inner dialogue and moved the book at a slightly faster pace. The characters were fairly well developed, but as I said, it was sometimes hard to tell which POV I was reading from at times because their voices were not distinct enough in that right.

I will definitely be checking out the next book from Aden.

I am really beginning to see a theme (for me anyways) with this series. I am not loving these stories, but I am not hating them either. They are just ok reads for me. Short, quick romances that put a smile on my face and that’s it.

This was a cute read. Bren is a zoologist at the city zoo and finds herself in need of letting go for once in her life. She has a night of amazing sex but keeps reminding herself the next day that she is not ready for anything long term.

Mason is an OBGYN who just happen to meet an amazing woman and has some of the best sex of his life. But he has no way of learning more about her because she ghosted him the next day.

Well one thing leads to another and Bren finds herself in Mason’s practice, at the mercy of his hands once again, only this time for medical reasons. Yea, not exactly how Mason expected to finally find Bren again.

And so begins their story. It’s cute, sweet and has some mild dramatic moments peppered in. It’s a fast-paced insta-love story, which for me was hard to get on board with. I enjoyed their interactions, it just seemed all too fast pace for me, especially with the baggage that Bren had.

I am in no way knocking Kendall and these books. I love her and her writing. But for me, I am beginning to realize I need more oomph in my books. I need depth to the stories. If you are one who enjoys the insta-love and not a lot of angst or drama, these are the perfect books for you.

The Sweetest Burn by Jeaniene Frost….Review Blog Tour Stop

About The Sweetest Burn

  • Series: A Broken Destiny Novel (Book 2)
  • Mass Market Paperback: 352 pages
  • Publisher: HQN Books (June 27, 2017)

The breathtaking second novel in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Broken Destiny series finds Ivy and Adrian rekindling their alliance—and passion—as the struggle for the fate of the world begins…

Conquering a supernatural realm turned out to be easier than getting over a broken heart. But her initial victory has made Ivy a target for revenge, forcing her to reunite with the dangerous—and dangerously sexy—Adrian. Ivy isn’t sure which will be harder: finding the hallowed weapon that will repair the crumbling walls between the demon and human realms, or resisting Adrian, who’s decided that come hell or high water, he will make Ivy his.

At first, Adrian tried to resist his feelings for Ivy. Now, determined to break the curse that dooms their love, he’s vowed to save her and to have her. If only he can persuade her to forgive his past sins. But defying destiny—and surrendering to the smoldering desire between them—will bring consequences and sacrifices they never imagined…

“Frost scores another win with the mesmerizing second Broken Destiny supernatural contemporary… The novel thrums with energy, its pacing breakneck from the very start, and piles on the sexual tension. Frost provides a much-needed inventive boost to the tired angel/demon subset of supernatural fantasy.” –Publishers Weekly

My Review:

The Sweetest Burn is the second book in author Jeaniene Frost’s Broken Destiny series and after reading, and loving, the first book I was so excited to dive into this second installment. Well, let me just say, it was everything I had hoped for any more.

Let me start out by saying that yes, you really should read the first book in the series.  I don’t think you’d understand a lot of what was going on with the search Ivy and Adrian are on and you certainly wouldn’t feel the depth of the connections all of these characters have made.

Speaking of the connections and the search…holy moly do things really heat up in this book! Ivy and Adrian are reunited, tumultuously at first, and head of on the search for the second on Ivy’s list of hallowed artifacts that will help her bring balance to the world and the good vs. evil fight.  The search for the new item brings Ivy and Adrian even closer when they both realize after too many close calls and brushes with death that they are truly meant to be.  I won’t ruin anything for you but let me say, they have a total swoon worthy moment that had me smiling through happy tears.

Now, of course, while all of the reuniting is going on, we are in the middle of the quest for Ivy’s next weapon.  That search brings tons of danger and more than a few surprises along the way.  Friendships are tested and some family bonds are broken while others are strengthened.  There were more than a few “no way” moments during this book as secrets were reveled and I loved it.  While I hate being to vague, I certainly don’t want to spoil this story for you so you have to trust me when I tell you that it was phenomenal.

This series is filled with characters I adore, especially Brutus, and a journey that has me glued to each page.  I cannot wait to see what happens next with Ivy, Adrian, and the gang.  I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next installment! Thank you, Ms. Frost, for another fabulous read!

The Wright Mistake by K.A. Linde…Blog Tour & Review

A new stand alone enemies-to-lovers romance by USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…

I spent six weeks screwing Austin Wright’s brains out and all I got was this broken heart.

He can’t be trusted. Not with my body or my heart. Yet, two years have passed and I still crave him like an addict needing a fix.

The last time we tried this, it nearly ruined me. I know I should run and never look back. But his dark haunted eyes and razor blade smile speak to my soul. His touch sets my body on fire. And we all know what happens when you light gasoline. Someone is bound to get burned.

A second chance might destroy us both.

Because everyone knows two wrongs don’t make a Wright.

This is the kind of K.A. writing that I love reading. If you’ve read any of my reviews of her last two books in this series, then you know that neither of them really wow’d be. I am so glad that I tried reading this one and not just giving up because this is the best book the Wright series so far. Each book is a standalone but I highly recommend reading them in order because previous characters are mentioned in the book.

The Wright Mistake is Austin’s book. Out of all the Wright siblings, Austin is the one who walks around with a chip on his shoulder and has this sense of entitlement. He’s a functioning alcoholic who pretty much does what he wants and never apologizes for any of his actions. He’s the asshole of family who feels he has nothing to lose. Until he realizes he’s about to lose everything he never deserved to have.

Jensen is stepping down as CEO and Morgan is moving into this position, leaving her position as CFO open. A position everyone assumed another Wright would move into, more specifically, Austin. But the board doesn’t think so due to his actions and his uncontrollable drinking.

Julia Banner is the head of HR at Wright Construction and has had to deal with Austin in her office more times than she count. And it doesn’t help that at one time they had dated until it ended badly. So not only do they have to see each other at work, but Julia is very close to the wives and girlfriends of his brothers.

Julia decides to give Austin another chance, for reasons even she’s not sure of. Austin is willing to do anything to be the man Julia deserves. She knows that Austin has a problem with drinking and states the only stipulation is no alcohol, which he is willing to do. Julia is very supportive of Austin, knowing that it won’t be easy for him. But she also doesn’t allow him to make excuses or take any of his crap.

But Austin isn’t the only dealing with some past problems. Even though Austin numbs his pain with alcohol, Julia is running and hiding from hers. And when she finally has no choice but to tell Austin about it, he’s there to try and help her.

There relationship is not a smooth one. And it’s definitely not pretty one either. They both go through a lot and it really tests their love for one another. It pushes them to make decisions that are extremely difficult, but necessary to move forward, possibly together or separate. There’s a lot of raw emotions that take place in this book, but they are so worth it.

This is my favorite Wright Brother story by far. I love all the high tension running this book mixed with the suspense near the end. Now I am looking forward to some Wright sister stories in the near future.

Lost in Deception by Anita Devito…Blog Tour Stop

Meet the Author:

Anita’s rapid paced storytelling style pulls readers into a parallel universe where mystery, mayhem, murder are the order of the day. Her stories are an addictive diversion, trading the heavy, gray world of real life for a fantastically colorful world where bad is good, and cool is smoking hot.

Raised on America’s Rock Coast in Cleveland, Ohio, Anita was born while the river burned. Music, food and family shaped Anita’s life and provide much of the fodder for her stories. Her love of mysteries and puzzle solving came from her Grandpa John, who introduced Anita to her first detective hero – Nero Wolfe. Food was as central a character in Anita’s life as it was in Nero’s, where Sunday dinner at Nonna’s table was a command performance.

Anita has been writing scorching mysteries and suspense since 2006 with stories ranging on the heat index from a “nice spicy little pepper” to “pass a mop for my forehead, please.” Check out tastes of Anita’s stories and like her on Facebook. Excerpt:

Tom couldn’t see where Peach went, and he didn’t like it. What was she going to do with a frying pan against a killer? A door opened, then a solid thump and the landing of a heavy weight. Peach. He was afraid to call out. There was no helping her if he was caught, too. He hadn’t been in a fist fight since college.

“Tom?”

Relief flooded his system at the sound of her voice. “Tell me you’re okay.”

“I need help. The tape Poppy used this morning. It’s on the kitchen counter.”

He found the tape and went to the steps to where Peach stood over the unconscious body. They carried the guy to the basement and thoroughly taped his hands, legs, and mouth. In the windowless basement, he took out his phone and called Jeb.

“We caught one. He’s tied up in the basement. I don’t know if he was alone.”

“No. There’s a minivan on the street, engine running. I’m moving the Escalade into the driveway behind Peach’s house. Be ready to run at my signal.”

“He’s coming,” he said to Peach. “We need to be ready when he signals.”

“What’s the signal?”

He didn’t think to ask that. Engineers were not cut out for this kind of excitement. His head was so busy he couldn’t think at all. “I hope it’s obvious. We’ll get out of this.”

“Of course we will.” He noticed she wasn’t trembling with fear. She wasn’t frantically scrambling or babbling incoherently. Everything about Peach was cool and collected.

Twisted Twosome by Meghan Quinn….Blog Tour & Review

TWISTED TWOSOME
NA Romantic Comedy

From the first day I met Racer McKay, I knew our interaction was going to be incredibly brief. First impressions really do matter and unfortunately, I didn’t make a very good one.

At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I was never going to see this man again, right?

Wrong! When I’m met with the opportunity of a lifetime, there is only one man in the state of New York who can assist me. And can you guess who it is?

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

So, we reluctantly join forces.

Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.

*Twisted Twosome is a stand alone romantic comedy.

Meghan Quinn, I love you so hard!! Please do not ever stop writing! Twisted Twosome is Racer’s story – we met him in My Best Friend’s Ex and I am so glad that he got his own story!!

As with a lot of Meghan’s books, this is a romantic comedy. Meghan really has a niche for this genre. She’s never too over the top with the antics or silliness. She has a perfect blend of humor and romance with some added angst to make the story come together. While, some things are sort of cheesy, I love that Meghan herself points these things out and it just really makes the book all the more enjoyable. But it’s truly her balance of everything that makes her rom-com books stand out.

“You learn to live freely when you lose a piece of your heart.”

In Twisted Twosome, Racer has to take on side construction jobs to help keep his afloat with all the bills piling up on him. He lost his dad, while he does miss him and the memories, he doesn’t wallow in that grief, he does his best to be what his dad taught him. He doesn’t do the whole pity party and does what he can to earn extra money. Which is how he comes to working for Gerogiana (Georgie) and doing the construction on her business adventure.

Georgie isn’t exactly who Racer thinks she is. She comes from a very affluent family and the few times he’s had to deal with her, she’s always be flouncing around her kitten heels and having her family’s staff wait on her. And Georgie saw him as the rude and arrogant asshole he is when he opens his mouth to tell her off when she cost him a huge chunk of money because of her prancing around in her heels. Yea, these two hit off real well!!

“Make mistkaes, tell the worst truth rather than the best lie, love hard, and be the better man.”

Meghan did an amazing job writing this whole story. The interactions from Georgie and Racer are hilarious and quite entertaining. They hold nothing back from one another, and this just adds to the boiling chemistry between the two. While these two may work the other nerves to the very end, they are both fighting an obvious attraction that is just boiling over at every turn.

The secondary characters definitely add to the humor and crazy. Tucker and Emma make their appearance with their wedding and we get brief glimpses of Adalyn and Smalls. We also meet Georgie’s family (Abe and Averly and her borther Spencer, the playboy) along with her best friend Madison. I am interested to see who Meghan writes about next, but if the ending is any indication, I am thinking it will be Adalyn.

Another fantastic rom-com from Meghan Quinn!!

Excerpt:

“Thanks for lunch, I haven’t had a fine peanut butter and jelly sandwich in quite some time.” Racer takes a giant bite from one of three sandwiches I made him. The man can eat; I just want to know where he puts it all. “What is this, crunchy peanut butter?” He looks over the sandwich, studying it intently.
“Yes, it’s crunchy with mixed berry jam.”
He nods and takes another bite. He talks with his mouth full, which for some weird reason makes him oddly adorable. “Nice touch, George. The peanuts add a nice texture.”
“Are you going all food critic on my PB and J skills right now?”
Lifting his shirt, he dabs away some of the sweat that’s collecting on his forehead, beneath his backward hat. His abs flex with the movement, drawing my attention. Each divot calling out to me to touch, to examine . . . to lick.
“I think every human should be judged on their PB and J skills.”
I pull my eyes away from his stomach just in time not to get caught staring. “Why do you think that?”
“Because,” he takes another bite, “I think building a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is in everyone’s repertoire, but only the truly skilled know how to make a proper one. And I want to be friends with the truly skilled.”
“Is that so?” I take a drink of my green tea and study him for a second, watching the way the muscles in his jaw move with each bite and swallow. It’s sexy.
His neck is sexy? Is that possible?
“So where do I land on your scale of sandwich artists?”
He smiles from my term, and I realize how much I adore his boyish charm. Pulling his eyes away from me, he examines one of the sandwiches I made him and starts assessing it. “Good ratio of peanut butter to jelly. Nice choice in bread. The crunch you added has been a pleasant surprise, and the mixed berry jam is fucking delightful.” I giggle from his girly term. “But . . .”
I perk up; there’s a but? “But what?”
He quirks his mouth to the side, almost to say, “Sorry, but you’re not quite perfect.” “The bread, it should have been toasted. Toasting it would have taken you to boss level when it comes to the PB and J.”
“Toasting it?”
He nods and takes another bite. “When you don’t toast a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the peanut butter and bread form a paste on the roof of your mouth. Even though it tastes good, it can get quite irritating.”
“But I didn’t have a toaster.”
“Rookie mistake.”
“Well, If I knew I was going to be critiqued, I would have sprung for bacon.”
He pauses mid bite and stares at me over his sandwich. “You’re a beast for bringing up the option.”
I polish off the rest of my sandwich and wipe my fingers. “Well, maybe next time you’ll communicate expectations better. I’m not a mind reader, Racer. Frankly, the fact I didn’t make boss level is on you, not me.”
I stand and gather my trash as he stares me down. “Don’t you turn this on me. You didn’t have a toaster. The toaster is what’s key. This is on you, Georgie. This is on you!” he calls out as I make my way to the back, laughing to myself the entire time.

About the Author:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Enrage by Rachel Van Dyken…Blog Tour & Review

SBPRBanner-Enrage-BT

Enrage, an all-new sexy standalone from #1 New York Times Bestseller Rachel Van Dyken is available NOW!!

Enrage_ebook_HiRes 9.02.25 AM

Enrage by Rachel Van Dyken
Release Date: July 31st

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Enrage is the next standalone in the international best selling mafia series, Eagle Elite.

Part of a world I loathe.

Part of a family who hates me more than I hate myself.

Living with a girl who reminds me of my darkness.

I’m. In. Hell.

Also known as the Cosa Nostra.

My life was over the minute I stepped off that plane.

Son to a murdered mob boss.

Heir to a throne of murder and lies.

My name is Dante Nicolasi.

And there will be blood.

Well I sure as shit wasn’t expecting that ending, but it is Rachel Van Dyken. She is always able to throw me through a loop with one thing or another in her books.

“Loyalty. Family. Honor. Independence. Class. Blood.”

“Blood In. No Out.”

Where oh where do I start this review?!? Dante was raised knowing what his family was but never having to deal with any of it. That is until his father was killed and he was thrust into the world he never wanted any part of. El wasn’t given a choice when her husband was killed by the very people she is now living with.

The only thing that Dante and El have in common is not wanting to be living in the place they currently reside, with the Italian Mafia. But neither really had another viable option if they wanted to live. While Dante is being trained to become the heir to his family’s throne, El is just trying to stay hidden and out of the way. What neither expected was for the other to be the light in their darkness. I won’t give away any tidbits or details, but I will tell you that there is one hell of a twist that I did not see coming and had my mouth falling open at the end.

I don’t know how Rachel does it, but every book in this series is just as brilliant as the previous ones and has me on the edge of my seat the whole. She gets me vested in new characters and has me itching to know how everyone else is doing. I love it!!

This is one mafia series that everyone needs to read. Rachel really knows how to keep things new and exciting and not once, repeat a previous plot line (or even a sex scene!). And I love that I get so damn into this series all over again when I read a new book. It’s like a family reunion every time!

Excerpt:

Dante slammed his hand into the tree, his jaw popped as he gritted his teeth together and then calm washed over him as he whispered near my ear, “Want me to kill him?”

A few people walked by and stared at us, it looked like he was kissing my neck, like we were normal college students sharing a moment.

Nope. Wrong story, kiddos.

He just offered to kill someone for offending me, run along, nothing to see here.

“After,” I said. “Kill him after he stops being useful to you, to the bosses.” I couldn’t believe what was coming out of my mouth, what I was agreeing to. “Yes.”

Dante pulled back, his face broke out into a smile. “How messed up is it that I’m actually looking forward to that moment?”

I gulped. “It’s in your blood.”

“I wish it wasn’t,” he said gruffly. “I wish I didn’t crave it — dream about it — almost as much as I wish I didn’t feel guilt every day because of it.”

I sighed and put my hands on his chest, then ran them up around his neck, he didn’t move, or flinch, so maybe we were having a moment as our mouths almost touched. “The only shame in life, is not being who you were truly born to be. If that means you kill the bad guys — kill the bad, guys Dante. Just don’t lose your soul in the process.”

“And if it’s already gone?” He croaked his eyes darkening as he slowly leaned in until his forehead touched mine.

Days ago I would have been terrified that his body was this close.

Days ago, I would have shoved him away and run.

Days ago, I would have shuddered that his bloodstained hands were running up and down my skin.

But today.

Today was different.

Today I closed my eyes and drank in the wicked scent of Dante Nicolasi, the cologne mixed with soap. I inhaled.

And opened my eyes again.

Yesterday I was angry. I was afraid.

Today. Against the tree.

Pinned by Dante’s arms.

I was safe.

“I’ll help you find it,” I whispered.

“Just don’t damn yourself in the process, El.” He cupped my face with his right hand, his eyes fell to my mouth, his half-lidded seductive look could stop a girl dead in her tracks.

The wives always talked about how attractive his father was, even at an older age.

Almost like he’d aged backward.

Dante was no different.

If it was possible for a human to get more attractive by the day — he’d be the one to prove you right.

“Are you going to kiss me again?” I asked hopefully.

“No.” He pulled away.

My heart sank into my stomach.

“Because I don’t want to start something I have no intention of stopping.”

My head jerked, our eyes locked, and I saw it. The honesty.

“Told you I’d never lie to you, El.” His voice had a warning edge to it, like I shouldn’t push him, push whatever invisible boundaries he’d mentally set up between us. His eyes never left mine.

And I knew, this was what he looked like when he was telling the truth.

His eyes pierced through my defenses in an unapologetic search for my heart, my soul.

And I let them.

“We should get to class.” I finally found my voice and started walking, he fell into step beside me.

And I spent the rest of the day thinking about the non-kiss.

And the promise that came with it.
