Dear Bridget, I Want You by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward…Release Day Event

Dear Bridget,

I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.

So, here goes.

We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.

But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.

I want you.

The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.

So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.

No questions asked.

Think about it.

Or don’t.

Whatever you choose.

It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.

–Simon

Excerpt:

It’s feels like an eternity since I’ve been home. In reality, it’s only been a year.
My slow walk to the house is surreal. The lawn is as pristine as ever, each blade of grass shorn the same height by Jude’s meticulous mowing. The red geraniums I planted years ago are thriving. And the dent in the porch rail, caused by my foot accidentally connecting with the wood, is still visible. But I don’t remember the house being this uninspiring shade of blue, or the crack on the front stoop being this wide. This house, this city, used to be my whole world. It seemed a lot bigger then.
Discordance skitters over my spine: what should be familiar is foreign, relief mingles with anxiety. Time snaps and contracts as I knock on the front door, and suddenly it seems like an hour since I left. A nanosecond.
The door swings open, and the reason for my hasty departure is staring at me. She’s as pretty as I remember—maybe more, damn her. Green eyes that used to flutter when I kissed her, full lips that whispered confidences in my ear.
Now, her face is frozen in a hostess’ smile. Her fingers worry the bottom button of her pink cardigan and the threads begin to loosen. She doesn’t know what to do because she wasn’t expecting me. I guess it wasn’t nice showing up a day early.
“Ryan. You’re home.”
Home. Does she mean mine or hers?
I had almost forgotten what Lizzie’s voice sounded like, but its husky depth brings the memories of the six months we spent loving each other rushing back.
Well, I had been loving her. She’d been falling in love with my brother.
I wait for my heart to ache, but there’s only a small twinge. That’s a surprise. In my mind, this was all so much more dramatic and intense. Hard stares and pinched lips. A little social awkwardness seems so mundane by comparison.
And then the door swings open wider and Jude is there. My pulse stops—doesn’t slow, just ceases to exist for a second. Leave it to him to bring the fireworks.
Like the house, Jude seems smaller than I remember. Or maybe that’s because he has gone expressionless, his discomfort hard-crashing him. His hands dig into his pockets, searching for an anchor, pulling his shoulders into a hunch. It takes a lot to knock Jude off his game. Glad to see I can still have that effect on him.
When he opens his mouth, no sound comes out. It’s unusual for me to have to step up and be the better man when I’m around my big brother. But today is that day.

An optional short novel in the highly-addictive Kennedy Boys series by USA Today bestseller Siobhan Davis.

The Kennedy Boys go wild on vacation in Ireland!

It’s the summer before they start college, and Faye and Ky are visiting her home turf together—it’s Ky’s first time in Ireland, and her first trip home since her parent’s tragic death.

After a blissful three weeks on their own, they welcome the rest of the Kennedy clan when they arrive on Irish soil for the vacation of a lifetime.

Watch the sparks fly as family emotions run high and the Kennedy boys’ party up a storm, creating mayhem and madness wherever they go.

This dual POV short novel should only be read after Keeping Kyler.

★☆ This book also includes bonus content from Finding Kyler, Losing Kyler, a sample from Loving Kalvin, and a sneak peek at Saving Brad, the fifth Kennedy Boys novel. 60,000 words in total (40,000 short novel + 20,000 bonus content)

Recommended Series Reading Order
•Finding Kyler – forbidden romance (trilogy)
•Losing Kyler
•Keeping Kyler
•The Irish Getaway – optional short novel
•Loving Kalvin – standalone, friends-to-lovers second-chance romance
•Saving Brad – standalone, enemies-to-lovers romance

The Irish Getaway is the Kennedy’s summer vacation!! It must be read after you’ve read the first 3 books in this series. It is a novella, but without knowledge of the previous three books, this book will be so confusing to a reader. Plus it has a lot of bonus content that can’t be truly enjoyed without the background from books 1thru 3.

Faye and Kyler start the story off in Ireland by themselves, which I really enjoyed. I love this couple so much. They’ve been through hell and back (many times) so it was nice seeing them finally enjoying life, together.

I really enjoyed the first meeting between Faye and her grandparents – it was just really sweet. Watching Kaye interact with her step-sister Whitney was interesting also and I hope we may see more of Whitney in a future book.

One thing I really enjoyed was seeing all of the Kennedys in one place. I felt like we got to know Keanu, Kev, Kent and Kade a little bit more too. I know it sounds like a lot of characters are in this series (and there are) but it’s not too overwhelming or confusing, which says a lot about Siobhan’s writing.

Siobhan did a great job of giving us a follow up to Faye and Ky along with tid bits of what we could expect from the other Kennedy boys in the future. The bonus content was a nice addition and gave us different insights to scenes from previous books along with hints at two future books!

I highly recommend reading this after reading the first 3 books.

Ready to Run by Lauren Layne…Review Tour

Named Best Book of the Month by Amazon and iBooks
READY TO RUN
I Do, I Don’t #1
Lauren Layne
Releasing Aug 22, 2017
Loveswept

The Bachelor meets The Runaway Bride in this addictive romance novel about a reality TV producer falling for her would-be star: a Montana heartthrob who wants nothing to do with the show.

Jordan Carpenter thinks she’s finally found the perfect candidate for Jilted, a new dating show about runaway grooms: Luke Elliott, a playboy firefighter who’s left not one but three brides at the altar. The only problem? Luke refuses to answer Jordan’s emails or return her calls. Which is how she ends up on a flight to Montana to recruit him in person. It’s not Manhattan but at least the locals in Lucky Hollow seem friendly . . . except for Luke, who’s more intense—and way hotter—than the slick womanizer Jordan expected.

Eager to put the past behind him, Luke has zero intention of following this gorgeous, fast-talking city girl back to New York. But before he can send her packing, Jordan’s everywhere: at his favorite bar, the county fair, even his exes’ book club. Annoyingly, everyone in Lucky Hollow seems to like her—and deep down, she’s starting to grow on him too. But the more he fights her constant pestering, the more Luke finds himself wishing that Jordan would kick off her high heels and make herself comfortable in his arms.

NOW AVAILABLE!

Lauren Layne is one of those that with each book I read by her, I enjoy the stories more and more. Her writing is impeccable and her characters are easy to love and read about.

Ready to Run starts off a new series for Lauren that is definitely on the more light and fluffy side of romance. As most know, I normally need some suspense or a really great plot to hold my attention, but there are a few authors recently who’ve been able to hold my attention with just the right touch of sweet romance (yea, this is where I would normally gag and ask to put some action into the book. lol). But I think my black heart is starting to get a few fishers in it from these authors.

The synopsis for Ready to Run is quite entertaining – finding the man who’s left three brides at the altar. He’s got to be some sort of asshole to do that, not just once, not just twice, but three times to three different women. Jordan’s job is to track Tucker down and get him to do the show. Sounds simple, right!? Promise the man a lot of money while he searches for his true love. Yea, not so much.

Jordan finds out real quickly why Tucker never returned any of her calls or emails in regards to the show. He doesn’t want to do it, no matter what amount you throw his way. And since Jordan just flew form New York to convince Tucker he’s the best option for the show, you know she won’t take no for answer. So begins Jordan’s journey of accidentally inserting herself into Tucker’s hometown.

I really liked how Lauren let this story play out. Everything flowed perfectly and nothing felt forced or out of place. Watching Tucker and Jordan hobble around one another at times and slowly mingle together was very entertaining. They had their own issues to hash out, but in the end, it all comes together as it should.

If you love sweet and sugary romances with a touch of hot to trot sexiness, this book is for you.

EXCERPT

Luke started to load up the gear and, realizing he was doing it alone, glanced over his shoulder to see where the hell his partner was.

Unsurprisingly, his friend was chatting up City Girl. Neither Charlie nor Ryan seemed to mind in the least that these two fancy pants had swooped into their town to capitalize on Luke’s past.

What was more surprising was that Jordan Carpenter was chatting right back, her smile seemingly genuine, her laugh real.

Luke ground his teeth.

He couldn’t say he’d put much thought into the woman behind the name as he’d been unceremoniously deleting her emails and voice messages, but if forced to assume, he’d have guessed aggressive shrew.

He suspected he was wrong there. Because while there was no mistaking the ambition in the woman, it wasn’t the cutthroat, ball-busting kind.

Her lean body might be all angles and long lines, but there was a softness to her as well. The way her hair did its own thing. The easiness of her smile, the quick laugh. The small but pert breasts.

Damn. He was staring.

He slammed the door shut. “Bander,” he shouted at Charlie across the lawn. “Let’s clear out.”

Charlie leaned into Jordan, whispering something in her ear that made her laugh, before walking away with a last wink.

Luke rolled his eyes. Really? This was happening?

“Hey, Elliott,” Ryan called. “You want to come over for a barbecue tonight?”

Luke crossed his arms and studied his friend suspiciously, waiting for the catch. “Who’s on the guest list?”

He saw Jordan and her purple-shirt friend exchange a look. Well, that answered that question.

Damn. Ryan never had been able to resist the urge to stir up trouble.

“It’s no problem if you don’t want to join us,” Jordan called out, lifting her hand to shield the afternoon sun from her eyes. “I’m sure your friends here can fill me in on everything there is to know about Luke Elliott.”

All about Luke Elliott’s romantic history was more like it. City Girl wasn’t even pretending to be coy about the reason she was here.

All former positive thoughts about her evaporated. Only the worst sort of human would use another’s failed relationships to advance her own career—for entertainment.

Luke turned away without another word, hauling himself into the driver’s seat of the truck as he waited impatiently for Charlie to get done shouting goodbye to every single person within earshot.

He drummed his thumbs against the steering wheel, refusing to even think about going to the BBQ tonight. If his friends wanted to stir up trouble, they could do so without his cooperation.

As for the two New Yorkers, they’d flame out all on their own. Weren’t East Coasters known for being impatient and fast moving?

Surely they’d be off to find some other glory-seeking asshole if he ignored them. One of the other guys could play the role for all he cared.

As Charlie hauled his ass up, Luke started the truck, his eye catching on Jordan Carpenter, who was watching him with a stubborn, determined look on her pretty face.

Damn it. She’d stir up all sorts of trouble unless he ran interference.

Luke pulled out his phone to text Ryan.

I’ll be there. Have beer.

Charlie leaned over, unabashedly reading Luke’s iPhone screen. “Ha. Knew it.”

“What?” Luke glared at his friend.

Charlie grinned wider, gesturing over his shoulder. “You’ve got a boner for the hot blonde.”

“Are you kidding me with this? She wants me to be the next bachelor.”

How were Ryan and Charlie not getting the absurdity of this?

Charlie shrugged. “So? Maybe it’d be good for you.”

Luke stared at his friend for a moment longer before putting the truck in drive. “The only thing that would be good for me is to push you out of this truck.”

Charlie was waving goodbye to Jordan and Simon. “See you tonight!”

Luke ground his teeth harder. He was already dreading the BBQ, but not going would only make matters worse. Clearly he needed to have a very blunt conversation with Jordan Carpenter.

“You want me to provide an alibi?” The glow drained from her cheeks.

Tension sizzled through the air as Mac watched her body language to see if it matched her words. “You know I have to ask.”

She crossed her arms, every line of her body defensive and resentful. “I don’t remember exactly where I was on Monday morning.” Her eyes moved up and right.

Shit. She was lying. People lied to cops and FBI agents all the time. The question was, what did she have to hide?

“But this morning, when the DJ was shot”— She’d already put together what the cops were officially refusing to admit—“ I was in a coffee shop and then on the Metro.”

“Got people who can verify that?”

She gave him the name of a coffee shop near Tenleytown and the metro stop where she’d got off the train.

“Don’t tell them why you’re asking,” she said. “Please.”

He grimaced.

She cradled her forehead in her hand and looked like she suddenly felt ill. Because, really, what were they going to think when the FBI started asking questions about her movements? He made himself push on. She wasn’t his friend or his date. He had a job to do.

“Any idea who might be committing these murders?”

“I told you. I’m not in touch with anyone from that life anymore.” “What about your brother?”

“Eddie?” An ugly laugh escaped. “I don’t have anything to do with that wacko.”

Eddie Hines was still incarcerated in the Idaho State Correctional Center. They’d pulled a bullet matched to his gun out of a SWAT officer’s vertebrae. The policeman had been lucky to not be paralyzed. To prove that point the officer turned up in a borrowed wheelchair and a “here but for the grace of God” sign every time Eddie came up for parole.

“I meant your other brother.”

She reached out to hold on to the back of the couch. “He doesn’t know about any of this.”

Mac frowned. “You mean the murders?”

“No,” she bit out sharply. “Any of it. Not the Pioneers. Not Kodiak Compound. Not who our family really is. Nothing.” Her fists clenched and unclenched. “And I want it to stay that way.”

What the hell? “Where does he think he comes from?”

“I told him we were the children of Trudy’s second-cousin on her mom’s side. I told him our parents died up in Oregon and Trudy took us in.”

“You lied to him about his parents?” Holy shit.

She put her hand on her hip. “Don’t use that judgmental tone with me, Assistant Special Agent in Charge Steve McKenzie.”

“Sorry, Tess.” He strode toward her until they were only a foot apart. “I didn’t realize you had the monopoly on changing your identity.”

She flinched and blinked rapidly as if fighting tears. “If anyone should understand why I wanted to leave that ugliness behind it should be you. You need to leave. Now.”

When he didn’t move she went to the front door and opened it, waiting for him to take the hint. Damn. He’d blown it. When he stood in front of her again he opened his mouth to speak.

She beat him to it. “Don’t leave town, right?” Bitterness was rife in the lines around her mouth. In the bite of her tone.

“I was going to say that if anyone from Kodiak gets in touch—”

“They won’t.”

“But if they do—”

“They won’t!” She appeared on the verge of crying, but fighting it.

He’d seen all sorts of tears during his time on the job. It was always the ones that didn’t fall that affected him most.

He pulled a business card out of his pocket, took her hand and folded her fingers over it. The skin on skin contact made something unexpected spread through his body. Despite her anger she felt it too— he could tell by the way her pupils widened and her lips parted on a gasp. She tried to pull away but he didn’t let go and he didn’t back down.

Instead he pulled her toward him into a stiff embrace. His breath brushed her hair as he kissed the top of her head— like she was still that little girl he’d known all those years ago.

“I’m not the bad guy here, Tess,” he murmured against her hair.

She kept her head bowed, and eyes closed, hand pressed like a fiery brand against his heart.

“Neither am I, but no one seems to care.”

She pulled away, and he let her go. Then he walked away just like he had nearly twenty years ago.

He sat in his car, staring at the house, knowing she was inside watching him right back.

The unexpected attraction had caught him off guard. He’d forgotten what it felt like to actually want someone. But he couldn’t afford to start something with the daughter of one of the most notorious white supremacist leaders in history. That would not look great on his résumé.

That stupid hug had knocked him off balance and made him sit here like a damn stalker. He’d hoped to neutralize some of the antagonism his turning up out of the blue had created and keep her onside should he need her help in the future. But now the fresh scent of her shampoo invaded his nostrils, and the feel of her soft skin tantalized his senses. The sight of her in that damp robe— knowing that she was naked underneath— had distracted the hell out of him. And damned if that embrace hadn’t felt like coming home.

Chances were she wasn’t involved in the current murders. It didn’t seem likely that an accountant, raised by a woman of color, would turn around and start killing people based on her daddy’s evil doctrine. But who knew? He’d seen crazier things in his career. Tomorrow he’d check out her alibi and cross her off his to-do list.

More’s the pity.

And so what if his mind turned dirty. It wasn’t going to lead anywhere. She was off limits. And he was in control of his wants and needs.

Felicia Lynn: How To Breathe

I can’t go back to the man I was any more than I can forget the memories locked inside me. Few men qualified for the mission and even fewer were willing to accept the required life sentence. Counting the days, good and bad, I exist as the world keeps spinning.

There’s a price to pay for a life with a greater purpose, but the healing of time is a damn liar. I’m supposed to be a dead man, and the silence couldn’t be more deafening. Even though I could never look back, I thought I’d taken enough out of that life to carry me forward. The success of the mission was meant to give the tragedy of my life meaning, but I’ve been stuck in this wreckage of my past . . . until now.

One look into her eyes disarms me. These walls I’ve built shouldn’t break on their own, but they crumble whenever she’s near. I’ve spent years waiting for a reason to breathe again, and now that I have her within reach, I’m not sure I can keep her. Is it possible to find both the missing piece of my soul and the remedy to my healing in one set of bright green eyes?

SR Watson – Deliverance

Bleu Loren

My life has never been my own. I’ve always been a rule follower—the obedient girl who always did what she was told. I played the part given to me and got engaged to the man my parents set me up with. He was supposed to be my Prince Charming. He promised me a happily ever after, only he delivered a nightmare instead. Now I’m on the run. No money. No plan. Just freedom. How ironic is it that my desperate escape lands me in a place called Hope Town? I lost hope a long time ago.

Beau Rivers Lair

I’m a manwhore. It’s a known fact and exactly how I like it. I make my own rules and live without expectations. Returning to Hope Town to help the woman who raised me with her restaurant meant my past was here to greet me, but I refuse to allow the mirage of possibilities to engulf me a second time around. I don’t believe in love or fairy-tale endings. There’s lust, and there’s screwing. I don’t have time for anyone or anything outside of these two principles. There is no hope for me. Accept it or not … you’ve been warned!

Excerpt:

Seduction can come upon you like a whisper, brushing against your skin with a subtle promise. It can surround you like warm velvet, its caress provocative and tempting. It can blitz you, overwhelming your senses until there is only one thought—him.

Gianna didn’t know when, she didn’t know how, but Sebastian’s seduction had flooded her like the wispy fingers of mist before effortlessly besieging with the skill of a warlord.

Ever since she found herself in his arms the night before, she hadn’t been able to get him out of her mind. Not even work could shove him aside.

She’d passed the night weighing his offer of spending the day with him. She waffled back and forth until she finally dozed off. When she woke and got into the shower, she still hadn’t come to a decision.

As she’d left her home that morning, she’d told herself she was going for coffee. And ended up at the Piazza San Marco.

With him.

She’d seen him long before he noticed her. It gave her a chance to study him at leisure. He wore black slacks and a button-down in a purple so deep in color it was almost black. The black leather jacket sat upon his wide shoulders like an afterthought instead of a necessity.

The breeze was gentle, ruffling the ends of his golden brown hair that swept atop his shoulders. He studied the architecture around him, not with wonder, but…almost as if it was intruding.

Not once did he appear to notice any of the women who endeavored to capture his attention. Yet he looked down and smiled at the pigeons who came close to him. And he gazed at children with a kind of amazement, like he wasn’t sure what to think of them, but he couldn’t look away.

Like she couldn’t stop staring at him.

Then he turned and locked eyes with her. Her heart had actually tripped over itself. Not once in her life had she ever experienced such a reaction to anything. Chills raced over her body that had nothing to do with the cool temperatures and everything to do with the enigmatic, baffling man who held her utterly spellbound.

His smile was both sensual and secretive. She didn’t remember what he said after he walked to her. It had been a question, and she’d agreed. The next thing she knew, they were having coffee.

To say she was shocked to find herself talking so readily to him was an understatement. What was it about him that made her feel comfortable? Relaxed, even?

As they walked from the café, his hand rested on the small of her back. The pressure of his palm against her was so profound that, for a moment, she wondered if she had on clothes, because it felt as if he were touching her skin.

My Review (and confession of sorts):

Ok, so I will start out with my confession: I haven’t read the first two books in this series.  I KNOW!  I’m totally mad at myself and now that I’ve read this book, you can bet your kindle that I’ve bought the first two and will be starting them this week.  That being said, let’s get into the review part of this…

Oh man ohmanohmanohman.  This book was just incredible.  I’m a sucker for a second chance romance and this was exactly that with chocolate syrup and a cherry on top.  Cady and Coert have a complicated and painful past.  It was past filled with first love emotions and first heartbreak pain.  A past filled with messy friendships and complicated secrets.  A past that neither Cady nor Coert would be able to forget, no matter how hard they tried.

In trying to forget, Coert moved on to a small town in Maine and tried to rebuild his life.  Now as sheriff of the town, you could say he’s made himself a nice life.   But that would only be if you didn’t look beyond the surface because beyond that surface is a whole lot of hurt and longing.  Longing for that lost love from his past.  Hurt because of the way things had ended.  Little does Coert know that the woman he lost all those years ago will soon be the newest resident of his town…

Cady is looking to move on and make amends.  Move past the pain she’s been living with and make amends with the man she lost all those years ago.  She knows the truth of things now and realizes in order to move forward, you sometimes have to look back.  That mission to heal brings her to the last place she ever thought she’d be…in Coert’s town.  Now, she just needs to get him to stop scowling at her and give her a chance to explain things.  That, would be easier said than done…

Thus story is messy.  It’s complicated.  It’s emotional as all get out.  And it’s freaking beautiful.  Every time I pick up a Kristen Ashley book, I am amazed at how much connection I feel to her characters and their journey.  It’s as if I’m living their story right along side of them.  I felt all of Cady’s emotions and disappointments each time she tried, and failed, to get Coert to soften towards her.  I felt Coert’s frustration when he was trying to reconcile his feelings of both anger and longing towards Cady.  All they felt jumped off the pages.  I wanted desperately for these two to work through their past mistakes and be able to move forward and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I also knew it would be worth it, and oh my, was it ever.  Cady is strong and determined.  She’s kind and loving and a gal I would so love to have as a friend.  Coert is all alpha with a soft side that had me melting.  The connection these two share is intense, beautiful, and unbreakable.  I loved experiencing their reconnection, even if it was one helluva bumpy road.  I won’t spoil anything for you but I will tell you that the ending of their book is totally movie worthy and had me swooning like the heart eye emoji face!

Thank you, Ms. Ashley, for an incredible story.  It’s one I won’t soon forget.  Coert + Cady 4EVA!

Five Loves

THE WILL
SOARING

EXCERPT:

Present day…

I took in the mess of the large, circular room we were in and at first saw nothing but the mess—decaying furniture, a soot-covered stone fireplace, a kitchen that might have been put in in the forties but had not only not been touched the last nine years, it perhaps had not been touched the last nineteen (or more).

Then I saw more.

The extraordinarily carved railing to the sweeping wood staircase that ran the curved side of the house. The red brick walls. The plank wood floors.

“Once upon a time, long ago,” the realtor was suddenly talking wistfully, “someone loved this place. Put that love into building it. Put that love into keeping it. Nine years and more when no one really gave a whit, and still you can see it once had a lot of love.”

Oh yes.

You could see that.

“It’s got a basement, more like a big crawl space,” the agent declared, surprising me with his quick change in tone back to businesslike and informative. “The furnace is down there. You can get down there through a door in the floor. The furnace was put in a while back, and full disclosure, though an inspection will catch it, it probably needs to be replaced.”

Through his words I stared at the fireplace, which scoured would be magnificent, and I noticed it didn’t have a chimney as such, but the smoke probably went out a vent in the wall.

“This floor has a powder room under the stairs,” the realtor kept on. “You can look at it if you want, but if you wanna save yourself that, I’ll just tell you straight, it needs to be gutted.”

I decided to take his word for it and told him that.

He looked relieved when I did before he stated, “Place has a garage, two car. Not in good condition, but think you saw that. Still, it’s close to the house and there’s a covered walkway to that door over there.” He pointed at a door that was across from the door we’d walked in. “Means you might feel a chill but you won’t get wet, unless it’s raining sideways, which happens.”

With a breeze that plastered my jacket to me on a sunny, early spring day, I did not doubt that.

“Garage has a loft space above it, which could be renovated as a studio rental if you’ve a mind to do that sort of thing. As for the property itself, it also has a building where the generators are stowed,” the realtor carried on. “Hook up for a washer and dryer and good space in there. Lots of it for storage. Which is good because there’s not a lot of storage in here for tools and Christmas decorations and whatnot.”

I glanced around seeing he was right. There wasn’t even enough cabinetry to house the things a decent cook would need in her kitchen. Though there was room for them. In fact, if you fought back the gloom, there was quite a bit of room.

“And there’s a place outside, could call it a studio, could call it a mother-in-law house,” he shared. “Whatever, it’s got goodly space, two bedrooms, big kitchen. Could be renovated to be a guest house. Or like I said, a studio if you’re artsy. Or you could rent it out like a B and B. I’ll show you all of that after we have a look at the lighthouse.”

“Thanks,” I replied.

“Now, since I mentioned full disclosure, you have to know it all,” the realtor continued.

Slowly, my eyes went to him.

When they did, he launched in. “Like I said, it’s automated. And like I said, you won’t really have to concern yourself with the functionality of that unless the electricity goes out, but then the generators automatically kick in. There are two. But you’ll need to keep fuel on hand to keep them going in case a blackout lasts awhile. And just to say, this is coastal Maine. We get weather. Blackouts can last awhile.”

When I nodded to share I took that in, he kept going.

“And if you’re, say, away on vacation, you need to make sure someone is playing backup in such a case.”

“Okay,” I replied when he stopped talking, thinking this probably wasn’t a good thing since I knew no one in Maine (or not anyone who wanted to know me) and thus couldn’t call on anyone to do something like that.

I also didn’t hold high hopes I’d make friends and win people. I hadn’t had a lot of success in that in my life.

And last, although Patrick believed it completely, I held no hope that the reason I was out there was going to come to fruition.

That being me having a happy ending.

That being what Patrick thought would be my happy ending.

Which might mean I’d have someone, a certain someone, or actually two (at least), even though I knew I never would.

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
