Blush by Cherry Adair…ARC Review

 Blush releases tomorrow, 4/7

“She was the witch with the pretty, shiny red apple. Delilah with the scissors hidden innocently behind her back. The beautiful vampire sleeping at night, mouth closed, fangs covered. It was damn impossible not to want to touch her.”

Blush cover

Synopsis:

In the same pulse-pounding style as Maya Banks and Kresley Cole, New York Times bestselling author Cherry Adair delivers a sizzling erotic romance about a sexy billionaire who’s on the run—and the hit-man-turned-handyman who’s supposed to kill her.

Sex with a stranger. Learn to drive. Learn to cook. Learn to pole dance. Sex under the stars. Buy a truck. These are just a few of the things on Amelia Wentworth’s bucket list, but as the CEO and face of a multi-billion-dollar cosmetic empire, she’s never quite found the time to do them.

Until, after a series of accidents, Amelia discovers that someone wants her dead. But who? And why? She has no time for questions as she changes her name to Mia, buys a secluded fixer-upper near the Louisiana bayou where no one will recognize her, and starts checking things off her bucket list like there’s no tomorrow—which there might not be.

Meanwhile, Cruz Barcelona is a hit man who’s promised himself this will be his last job. Then he’ll take the money and move to a warm, sunny place where he doesn’t have to hide anymore. But when Cruz goes undercover to Mia’s ramshackle house, he starts to realize there’s far more to this poor-little-rich-girl than he thought—and he starts to fall for her. Which is going to make his job a whole lot harder…

My Review:

Blush is the newest work from author Cherry Adair, and admittedly the first of her work I have read. I clearly have been missing out because this book was fantastic. Filled with a scorching amount of heat and thrilling suspense, I was glued to every page.

CEO Amelia Wentworth was in a huge amount of danger, and now, in hiding. It became clear to her that someone wanted her dead. But being the head of one of the biggest, if not the biggest, cosmetic empires has taught her more than a few things about resolve and strength. All of those lessons were being put to good use now, while trying to stay out of the public eye. While trying to stay alive. But being in hiding didn’t mean life had to stop being lived and truly, this was the perfect opportunity to live out her bucket list. Of course it would have to be done in the backwoods of Louisiana, but she was ok with that. And the man standing at her door getting ready to help her cross of one of those list items? Yeah, she was ok with him too…more than ok. He was sexy as hell and she had no idea who he was. Sex with a stranger was ready to get a check mark. Too bad Amelia had no idea this stranger was sent here to end her life…

Hitman Cruz Barcelona had made death his life’s work. All of that work and the payouts, had led him to this very moment. His last mission. This was the hit that would put him into retirement. He excelled at this. Keep emotions out of it, know your mark, do the job, and get out. Too bad this one last job will turn his life completely upside-down…

Two people thrown together in the most dire of situations. Two people who met by some twist of fate. Two people who couldn’t be more wrong for one another. Two people who realize soon enough that fate has a plan for them…

Wow. From almost the very first page, I was treated to a delicious amount of heat and suspense. And what better way to start off a book, right?

Cruz finds himself in a bit of an awkward situation when he opens the door (to kill Amelia) and is treated to a half-naked woman ready to get busy. She had wanted sex with a stranger, and she got it alright…and it was that moment that sealed Amelia’s fate. Only not for what Cruz had been sent for. He can’t stay away from her and she doesn’t want him to. It doesn’t hurt that she needs work done around her fixer upper and he has the skills to do it. This, of course leads to a bit of a conundrum for Cruz. There was no way, even after a few days together, that he could kill her. But just because he didn’t want to do the deed didn’t mean there wasn’t someone else hired to get it done. Soon enough Cruz finds himself in a completely different role. The role of protector.

I was so nervous for both Cruz and Amelia. Of course, for her safety, but I was more worried for their relationship. How could Cruz go from seducing her to telling her she was a hit man? Nothing good was going to come of that conversation and yet, against all odds, I was pulling for them to somehow find a way. Cruz, despite being a killer, has a good heart. A murderer with a conscience, if you will. He only killed the immoral and the perverse. Neither of which Amelia was. Again, I have to say how worried I was! Now, I can’t ruin anything for you, but after a huge “whoa moment” when we find out who is responsible for the hit, I was beyond happy with how Ms. Adair ended this story.

I once again have an author I will be looking forward to reading more from! Thank you, Ms. Adair, for a smoldering, sexy, suspenseful read.

About the author:

Always an adventurer in life as well as writing, New York Times best-selling author Cherry Adair moved halfway across the globe from Cape Town, South Africa to the United States in her early years to become a interior designer. Now a resident of the Pacific Northwest she shares the award- winning adventures of her fictional T-FLAC counter terrorism operatives with her readers.

Cherry settled in beautiful San Francisco, where she started what eventually became a thriving interior design business. “I loved being a designer because it was varied and creative, and I enjoyed working with the public.” A voracious reader when she was able to carve out the time, Cherry found her brain crowded with characters and stories of her own. “Eventually,” she says, “the stories demanded to be told.”

When asked why she chooses to write romantic action adventure, she says, “Who says you can’t have adventure and a great love life? Of course if you’re talking about an adventurous love life, that’s another thing altogether. I write romantic suspense coupled heart-pounding adventure because I like to entertain, and nothing keeps readers happier than a rollercoaster read, followed by a happy ending.”

Popular on the workshop circuit, Cherry gives lively classes on writing and the writing life. Pulling no punches when asked how to become a published writer, Cherry insists, “Sit your butt in the chair and write. There’s no magic to it. Writing is hard work. It isn’t for sissies or whiners.”

Cherry loves to spend time at home. A corner desk keeps her focused on writing, but the windows behind her, with a panoramic view of the front gardens, are always calling her to come outside and play. Her office has nine-foot ceilings, a fireplace, a television and built-in bookcases that will house approximately 3,500 paperback books.

“What can I say? My keeper shelf has been breeding in the middle of the night, rather like drycleaners’ wire clothes hangers.”

I love him as much as I ever did, but love isn’t enough to fix this. I thought telling my father about our relationship would be the hardest thing we’d ever have to face. I was wrong.

Lost in shadows…

All I wanted was to be worthy of Carrie. One mission, just one, and I’d be able to give her the future she deserved. Then everything went wrong, leaving me tainted and broken. Carrie wants me to be who I was, but all that’s left is what they made of me. I’m no good for her. No good for anyone like this. I have to figure out how to move forward. Alone.

Sometimes love isn’t enough…

My review:

*dreamy sigh* Out Of Mind is the last book in author Jen McLaughlin’s Out Of Line Series and if I’m being honest, I am so sad to see this series end. But, in the same token, this was as perfect an ending as I could have ever imagined for Finn and Carrie!

If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, I really wouldn’t read any more of this review until you do! Seriously.

Finn is finally back home. He may be broken, but he’s home. It’s been an agonizing wait for Carrie just to be able to see that he was, in fact, ok. But is he? OK?

All of the undercurrents of unworthiness Finn had felt before he left to go overseas will resurface with a vengeance when he returns home…less than whole. Sure, the outward appearance says he’s whole but deep down he knows he’s not. His memories begin to torment him and he has no idea how to handle all of it. All of the past, all of the future, all of the “what ifs” and “should have beens”. He tries to rationalize that he can overcome anything with Carrie by his side. Soon enough though, he has doubts. Will their relationship stand the test of stress and loss?

From relief one minute to confusion and pain the next, Carrie isn’t sure which way is up anymore. Yes, she’s beyond happy to have Finn home and safe. Yes, she will do anything she can to help him recover. No, she isn’t sure she’s enough to help him fight his inner demons. And damn if that doesn’t kill her inside. Surely the love they share is enough to fight even the darkest times, right? Carrie isn’t so sure anymore…

This journey is what matters most. This journey is what will define Carrie and Finn’s relationship and truly test the love they share. This journey is what will make or break them…

If you know me and my history with this series, you know I adore Finn. So much so that I got a tattoo in his honor. There’s just something about this surfer Marine that I have loved from the very beginning. It’s that love that made this book so damn hard for me to read. Finn is a mess. He’s mentally and physically broken and I wanted nothing more than for him to be whole again. This was really rough to read. The emotions were high and intense. I think what hit home most was that real veterans go through this every damn day and I hope they have their own versions of Carrie to help them through their darkest hours. Of course Carrie was amazing. She stood by Finn and never gave up. Even when she really wanted to, deep down she never truly gave up on him. Thank God for Carrie. He may have pushed her away, but Finn knew deep down that he needed her….eventually. I can’t give away too much of the story because there are a few spoilers but know this: you will need a whole lot of tissues and you will LOVE the way the book ends. Trust me!

Again I say that I’m sad to see this series end but I know Jen will have some fabulous works for us in the future and I can’t wait to read them!

Thank you, Jen, for Finn and Carrie and the entire Out of Line Series.

Out of Line Series by Jen McLaughlin SUPER FAN EVENT!

OOTFan_day2

Yahoo!  Happy Tuesday and Yahoo again!

Ok, so it’s a huge day here at Read-Love-Blog because little ol’me has been chosen as one of the Out Of Line Series by Jen McLaughlin’s SUPER FANS!

You may be asking yourself why and I am here to tell you, or rather show you, why I’m considered a super fan.  In my bio, I mention that I have quite a few book related tattoos.  After reading Out of Line, I knew I was 100% in love with Finn and what better way to show my bookish love than with another tattoo?  So, I went to my artist and we came up with a design: A red, white and blue surf board with “Finn” written across it….and the rest is history.  I think I may have shocked poor Jen when I showed her the picture after it was done haha!  I’m sure more than a few of you are thinking that I’m crazy and in a few years I won’t be happy with this tattoo…I’ll take this moment to also say that one of my other tattoos says “Je Ne Regrette Rien”.  Translated it means: “I have no regrets” which pretty much sums up my attitude on just about everything I do in life. And in case your wondering what my husband thought about having another guy’s name tattooed on me?  His motto is: “happy wife, happy life.” ….he’s a pretty smart guy.

So, here I am, a super fan and I thank you for taking the time to stop by and read my story!

XO

Out of Line

Desperate to break free…

I’ve spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I’m finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules…

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She’s a rule I know I shouldn’t break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.

Out of Time

Desperate to keep him…

I’ve finally gotten everything I ever wanted: love, freedom, happiness, and, most importantly, Finn. Our love is everything I expected it to be and more. We’ve finally found each other, but the world seems determined to tear us apart. We thought my father was the only obstacle between us, but now it’s the military. With Finn’s departure looming, we’re squeezing in every moment together before we run out of time.

Trying to make every moment count…

Being Carrie’s bodyguard was one thing. Being her boyfriend is another. Every day she’s mine is a day the sun shines in my life. Yet our time together is running out. Her father will never think a tattooed Marine will be good enough, so I’ll do whatever it takes to be worthy of her love. But the road will take me away from the girl who makes me feel alive–the girl I can’t live without.

Time only gets us so far…

DELETED SCENE from OUT OF TIME:

This scene takes place after Finn tells Carrie that he’s leaving. In the final copy, they don’t see each other much after that, at least not until their Christmas dinner. In my original copy…there was an extra scene. Enjoy. –Jen

I pulled the bike up into the spot closest to the beach. It was quiet as all hell right now, and no one was out in the water. Big shocker, there. Who the hell in their right mind went surfing at midnight? No one. That’s who.

But I’d been lying in bed, missing Carrie, and the idea had just kind of…come. And once it took hold, I couldn’t shake it off. The idea of being in the great ocean, with nothing but the moon watching us, had been too strong to deny. Soon, I’d be looking up at the moon from across the fucking world. This was one of my last chances to watch it with her.

And I wasn’t going to miss it.

I shut the bike off and offered her my hand so she could climb off. As soon as her feet were on the ground, she was taking her helmet off. “Wow. You can’t see a thing.”

“Maybe this wasn’t the best idea.” I hesitated, removing my helmet and setting it down. “If your dad knew, he’d—”

She shot me a death glare. “Don’t even think about finishing that sentence.”

“All right.” I tugged on my hair. It was too short to grab a nice chunk, though, so I let my hand drop back to my lap. “But if I say it’s not safe, then we leave.”

“Okay.” She looked out at the water. “Deal.”

Once we had our surfboards off of the bike—I’d had a board holder installed during our fight a few weeks ago—we both made our way to the water. The second we stepped into it, we both hissed. “Holy fuck, that’s cold.”

She laughed, flinging her head back. “It’s refreshing.” She kept going, even though I was a fucking icicle. “Come on.”

“Refreshing my ass.” I followed her despite the fact that my balls were shriveling with each step we took. A wave crashed in to me, hitting as high as my abs, and I cursed.

“Oh my God, how are you such a wuss?” She walked backwards, her face alight with a huge smile. It might be dark, but even I could see that. “It’s just a little bit of water.”

I took a big step toward her. “Did you just call me a wuss?”

“Uh…?” She stumbled back, her eyes wide. “No. Of course not. You were hearing things.”

“I don’t think so, Ginger.” I reached out for her, but she leapt out of the way. “I’ll get you, my pretty.”

She skittered back, her laughter ringing out. “No.”

I took a deep breath, bracing myself for the chill, then dove under the swelling wave. I heard her squeal right before my head went under, then I swam toward her. I couldn’t see a damn thing, but I was counting on my sense of direction to lead me her way.

Thank God it actually did.

I touched the fabric of her suit. She tried to lurch back, but it was too late. I grabbed a hold of her, dragging her under with me. Within seconds, we were both drenched and freezing. When she started hitting me, I dragged us both up to the surface.

“Oh my God,” she spluttered, her hands gripping my shoulders.

“Cold, Ginger?”

She smacked me again, on my left arm. “Yes.”

I laughed and hugged her close, then kissed her. She tasted like the ocean. My tongue stroked over hers, slow and unhurried. By the time I broke the kiss off, she was rubbing against me and practically purring. Christ, I loved this girl.

“Forgive me yet?” I asked, resting my forehead on hers. “I was just getting the freezing part over with quickly.”

“Oh, is that what that was?”

“Yep.” I kissed her again, lingering longer this time. “I’m not so cold anymore, and I’ll bet you aren’t, either. It’s like a Band-Aid. You gotta do it quick.”

She laughed. “You’re right. I’m not cold anymore.”

Her teeth chattered in the night. She was cold, whether she admitted it or not. “Well, since it’s even colder than I thought, we’ll catch one wave then go.”

I expected her to argue, but she just nodded. “We can’t have you sick. You leave soon.”

“Right.” I swallowed hard. I didn’t like thinking about leaving. Obviously, I knew it was happening, but I didn’t like to dwell on it. “All right. Who’s going first?”

“Me.” She climbed up on her board, and I did the same on mine, peeking over my shoulder. It was hard to see the size of the wave coming, but it looked small enough. “I’ll take this one, then you follow me with the next. I’ll wait for you on the beach.”

“All right.” I nodded. “But be careful.”

She laughed. “I will, sir.”

I held my breath as she paddled forward, her motions sure and smooth. She was silhouetted in the moonlight, her perfect form clear as day in the shadows. I watched her ride the wave through to the end, the grin on my face so fucking huge it hurt. When her feet hit the ground, she turned and waved at me, our signal that she was good.

I looked over my shoulder and started paddling forward to catch my own wave. And when I hit the sand, I was going to kiss her like I would never get to kiss her again.

In this world, you never knew when that just might be true.

Elisabeth staab Elisabeth Staab still lives with her nose in a book and at least one foot in an imaginary world. She believes that all kinds of safe and sane love should be celebrated but she adores the fantasy-filled realm of paranormal romance the best. She lives in the Washington DC area with her family and one big scaredy cat, where she loves to spend time with good friends, go dancing, collect wacky coffee mugs from which to drink her favorite beverage, and sing off-key in her kitchen (when she isn’t making characters fall in love, that is).

But I’m not innocent.

I haven’t been for a very long time.

My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams.

Gone.
Vanished.

I never even had a choice.
I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs.
Until now.

brick excerpt

In an instant, he’s crouched down before me, hands spreading me open wider before dipping his tongue inside me. I continue massaging myself as he laps me up like I’m the only one who can quench his thirst. He sickens me, and as soon as I feel the swirl of hate manifest, I turn every part of me off and simply go through the movements I know he likes. I’m a well-oiled machine at this point, flawless in my performance.

He has no idea that I’m the poison in his bones, making my home in his soul. I’ve crept under his skin, and he never suspected a thing other than everything I’ve wanted him to, but he’s made my life a hell, and payback is a wicked bitch that comes in the form of me. I’m the devil seeped within the cracks of him. What he doesn’t know, is that it’s because of him that I am what I am, and he’s fallen into the cobwebs of my lies like a fool. I guess I should love him for that, because when he least suspects it, he’s going to give me everything I’ve been seeking—vengeance.

I also had the pleasure of interviewing Tina for the 1,001 Dark Nights newsletter….here is a peek:

I adored Silent Bite and felt that while it was in fact a vampire story, it was easy for any young dating couple with strict parents to relate to.  Did you draw on any experiences from your younger days when you were writing this story?

My parents weren’t very strict when it came to dating. I grew up in Germany, and things are a little bit more relaxed there than in the US. But I’ve met enough people on my travels to have seen the different levels of strictness and interference parents can levy on their children. I was lucky that I didn’t have to go through this myself.

I appreciated and enjoyed all of the Chinese customs and beliefs you included in this story.  What are some other customs you find interesting and would like to incorporate into a storyline?

I really love all the traditions about using the red color for good luck. My critique partner, Grace Callaway, is Chinese, and I must credit her and her father for really giving me a bit of an insight into the Chinese culture. It was also interesting to find out that the names that Chinese parents give their children directly relate to their standing in society. That’s how I chose the names of Ursula’s parents.

What made you choose Ursula and Oliver for the characters for your 1, 001 Dark Nights novella?

I got many reader letters after Oliver’s Hunger came out asking why I didn’t have Oliver and Ursula bloodbond at the end of the book. The thing is, they were so young that I didn’t think it was realistic to do the “eternal love” thing. So I let a few months pass where they lived together and got to know each other and felt they were ready for this final step.

It’s truly amazing that you translate your books yourself into so many other languages.  Do you translate each book as soon as you finish into each language or wait a bit?

Actually, I only translate into German myself. I’m not that talented! For French and Spanish I have translators, though I do read the French before it gets published. Yes, I do make a point of translating every book in German as soon as I finished it in English. My German fans are totally hounding me down for those books, so I can’t really let them wait too long. With French, we’re still behind with the translations, but we’re catching up. With Spanish, I’m taking a break, since sales are not sufficient yet to cover the cost of any more translations.

What is your favorite thing about starting a new book?  Least favorite?

My favorite thing is that everything is possible. I can spin a story into whatever direction I like. It’s great creative freedom and that’s what makes writing so enjoyable. But my least favorite thing is staring with a blank page. It feel so daunting to try to fill those pages when you’re staring from nothing.

Is there any city you have visited in your travels that you’d like to write a book or series set in?

Venice, no doubt! And I actually set a series in Venice, Italy, right after my husband and I returned from a trip there in 2011. The Venice Vampyr series is, however, set in 1800 Venice, not in contemporary times. But I think Venice didn’t really look much different then than it looks now.

Speaking of your travels, what’s the one thing you cannot set out on a trip without?

You’re going to laugh, but I’m always traveling with teabags. I need to drink tea all day long, and I particularly like ginger and chamomile teas, so I always have tea bags with me.

About the author:

Tina Folsom was born in Germany and has been living in English speaking countries for over 20 years, the last 11 of them in San Francisco, where she’s married to an American.

Tina has always been a bit of a globe trotter: after living in Lausanne, Switzerland, she briefly worked on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean, then lived a year in Munich, before moving to London. There, she became an accountant. But after 8 years she decided to move overseas.

In New York she studied drama at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, then moved to Los Angeles a year later to pursue studies in screenwriting. This is also where she met her husband, who she followed to San Francisco three months after first meeting him.

In San Francisco, Tina worked as a tax accountant and even opened her own firm, then went into real estate, however, she missed writing. In 2008 she wrote her first romance and never looked back.

She’s always loved vampires and decided that vampire and paranormal romance was her calling. She now has 15 novels in English and several in other languages (Spanish, German, and French) and continues to write, as well as have her existing novels translated.

Heart in Wire by R.L. Griffin ….. Release Day Event

Heart in Wire_Ebook 600x400

This book has spoilers in it if you haven’t read the By A Thread series yet, you may not want to read the synopsis. This is a companion book to that series and I highly suggest reading it first.

Have you ever been involved in an epic love story where you wound up alone? Have you devoted yourself so completely to someone that you lost yourself in their abyss?

Patrick Greer spent the past five years revolving around El. He fought like hell to not feel the emotions for her that were hidden deep in his gut, until he couldn’t anymore. He was so sure of them, of her, of what they were to each other, until he wasn’t.

Patrick couldn’t even imagine the things he’d done for her, with her and to her. El broke him.

He was a liar, a friend, a lover, a fixer, a runner and a killer.

Now he had to figure out who he was without her.

Book: THAT GIRL
A Standalone Novel by HJ Bellus
Genre: New Adult/Sports Romance

SYNOPSIS:
This book is about That Girl…
The girl who leaves behind her past, including her name; runs away from home and vows to never let another identity claim her again. Broken dreams, an abusive step-dad and ugly memories from her childhood are the only shattered remnants that have the ability to haunt her.
With no money, an endless blank slate laying ahead of her and no hopes for the future, she sets out to survive at minimum wage jobs, moving from town to town, changing her name with each move, and never allowing glimpses of her past to threaten her empty future.
Average in every way, from her looks to her personality and even her style, there is not much to remember about her. When she abandons one town for another, she leaves behind her fake identity in the search of the next one, while leaving people asking themselves, “I wonder what ever became of that girl.”
This was her reality until Lincoln Wilks.
The number one defensive football player in Denver who finally names That Girl.

Synopsis:

Accepting her responsibilities as princess of Chalon, Ciara agrees to marry Prince Daemon of Thuringia, known throughout the kingdom for his ruthless cruelty. Believing her father harbors no real love for her, after the tragedy that crippled their family, Ciara can only hope her sacrifice would somehow earn his good favor.

Banished from his homeland, Royce Saint-Michel returns to Chalon for one reason alone, to get back all he lost. Agreeing to the role of escort and protector for Princess Ciara, he need only obey one simple rule regain his noble station, do not touch her.

Thoughts:

Three words describe the delightful tale woven by Ms. Shelly Thacker best, a slow burn. I really enjoyed this historical romance set in the imaginary lands of Chalon and Thuringia. The sexual tension between Ciara and Royce developed from a tempered kindle into a roaring inferno. The perilous adventure created a wonderful backdrop, moving the story along at a comfortable pace. Strategically creative twists leaves the reader wondering with each page turn, which will win out in the end, love or duty. I highly recommend His Forbidden Touch if you love historical romances or were thinking about giving the genre a shot. Please note, this is book two of the Stolen Bride series. I have not read the first, but the story stood well enough on it’s own. However, I do intend to go back and read the first book because I enjoyed this one so much.

Julia Motyka does a good job of narrating, making it easy to distinguish between the multiple characters. I loved how her voice inflected the antagonisticly divine nature of our hero, Royce. And I said before, I do plan on delving back in for more.
