A Promise of Fire (Kingmaker Chronicles #1) by Amanda Bouchet…Review

pof

Synopsis:

Catalia “Cat” Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…

Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he’s ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.

My Review:

Well, to say I enjoyed this book would be a wild understatement. I loved it. LOVED it.

A Promise of Fire is the debut book from Amanda Bouchet and the first in a trilogy. It’s a high fantasy romance that will keep you turning pages well into the night. It’s a little bit Game of Thrones, a little bit Percy Jackson, and a whole lot of sexual tension. And I mean, right from the time Cat and Griffin meet. At the circus, no less. But don’t worry—no creepy clowns!

Startled, I tilt my head back and find him looking down at me, his thundercloud eyes shaded by thick, dark lashes. His eyes flare a heated silver, something shockingly possessive roaring to life in his hooded gaze.

Heat sizzles through me, coiling deep in my belly. My lips part on a silent gasp, and his eyes drop to my mouth. Stark hunger hardens his striking features, and an unexpected thrill skims down my spine. The low sound that rumbles out of him is raw, primal, and utterly male. He looks ready to slam his mouth down on mine.

The sexual tension is ramped up until you’re begging the pages to give you what you want. You’ll love Cat. And Griffin. And all the members of his team. Together they’re like a wisecracking, always-have-each-other’s-backs, Dungeons & Dragons version of The Avengers.

I can’t recommend this book enough. I have a digital version and I’ll be buying two physical copies—one for the keeper shelf and one to loan out to everyone I come in contact with.

About the author:

Amanda Bouchet grew up in New England where she spent much of her time tromping around in the woods and making up grand adventures in her head. It was inevitable that one day she would start writing them down. Drawing on her Greek heritage for the setting and on her love of all things daring and romantic for the rest, her debut trilogy, The Kingmaker Chronicles, took form. She writes what she loves to read: epic exploits, steamy romance, and characters that make you laugh and cry.

A French master’s graduate and former English teacher, Amanda lives in Paris, France. She met her husband while studying abroad, and the family now includes two bilingual children who will soon be correcting her French.

One month.

One movie.

One shot at a second chance.

I fell madly in love at first sight with Jane Lewis.

The girl with bright blue eyes, a pretty smile, and great ass owned my heart. I thought she was happy with the status quo, but ten years later, I foolishly let her go. Despite dating other women, no one compares to my first love. We are meant to be together, and I’m going to try my damnedest to convince her of that.

Luke Anders tricked me. The deal was sealed before I knew he was behind it.

We agreed to be just friends. Simple. Easy. But it’s not just the weather that’s hot in Texas. I was a fool to think I could resist him. He knows how to work his charms and those kissable lips, that great jaw, and biceps. We are here to work, but he has become downright distracting.

I’m strong. I can handle one month of his flirtatious sexual torture. But if I happen to fall in bed with that sexy bastard for a night, or three, does that make me weak? Asking for a friend, of course.

I guess I’m about to find out when love gets messy, it’s not just the talk that’s dirty.

Everything you’ve heard about modeling is true, and you haven’t heard the half of it.

It’s glamorous.

It’s sexy.

And yes, the line between work and reality often blurs.

We’re not just prototypes of perfection. Models have feelings and desires, too. We may be genetically gifted, but we’re still human.

I’m only human. Yes, an extraordinary specimen that earns more in a day than most make in a year, but this eight pack didn’t create itself. I spend hours working on this body. The good looks just come natural. *Winks* Thanks, Mom and Dad.

I’m Danny Weston, Supermodel.

But one path was traded for another when I chose this career. Ten years later, I would trade my career to have it back. To have her back.

Reese Carmichael is the one woman I would give it all up for, and the only one I can’t have. Yet.

Tailored For Trouble by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff…ARC Review

tfort

A sassy, sexy, laugh-out-loud rom-com between the hottest man never to be tamed and the woman crazy enough to try

SHE WANTS TO CHANGE THE WORLD.

Taylor Reed is no stranger to selfish, uncaring CEOs. She was fired by one, which is why she has created her own executive training program—helping heartless bosses become more human. So Taylor shocks even herself when she agrees to coach Bennett Wade, the cutthroat exec who got her unceremoniously canned. She’d love to slam the door in his annoying but very handsome face, but the customers aren’t exactly lining up at her door. Plus, this extreme makeover will give Taylor the golden opportunity to prove that her program works like a charm.

HE WANTS TO BUY IT.

Bennett Wade is many things—arrogant, smug, brusque—but trusting isn’t one of them. Women just seem to be after his billions. So when he hires Taylor Reed, he has no desire to change. Bennett is trying to win over the feminist owner of a company he desperately wants to buy, but something about the fiery Taylor thaws the ice around his heart, making Bennett feel things he never quite planned on. And if there’s one thing Bennett can’t stand, it’s when things don’t go according to plan.

They are a match tailor-made for trouble.

My Review:

Tailored For Trouble is the first book in a new series form author Mimi Jean Pamfiloff and the first of her work that I’ve read.  Well, I can say that I’ve found a new author to keep on my radar because I loved this book!

I love a good enemies to lovers story and this book was a perfect example of that trope done really well.  I adored Taylor and her no nonsense attitude.  I enjoyed her spitfire personality and her inner dialogue was quite funny. Bennet, while he’s the type of guy you love to hate, I knew I would end up loving as the story progressed…and boy did I.  Together these two are sexy and fun and I really enjoyed watching their relationship ebb and flow from start to finish.

Overall this was a fun and sexy read and I will certainly be reading more form this author again!

Review:

Kayden/Simon by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright is novella number 13 in the 2016 1,001 Dark Nights line-up as well as part of the Bayou Heat series, a series I absolutely adore.  I mean, if I’m being honest, the writing duo of Ivy/Wright could write my grocery list and it would be amazing.  I always look forward to a new release from them and this was no exception.  It was amazing!

As the synopsis states, the two stories in this novella are new twists on classic tales and from start to finish I was glued to each page.  The drama, the heat, the push and pull between the characters in both parts was simply delicious.

I loved Simon and Tryst together.  Talk about opposites attracting and some major sexual tension.  I loved it SO MUCH!

Kayden and Bianca’s story was amazing and filled with drama and tension and if ever there was two people I wanted to get together, it was these two!

Truly, I always know when I pick up a Bayou Heat story it’s going to be an all-consuming and page turning read.  These two authors are incredible and if you’ve never picked up one of their stories, this is a perfect place to start!

Biographies:

alex2Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes

laura2Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

Man of Honor by Diana Gardin….Blog Tour Stop & Review

TITLE: MAN OF HONOR
AUTHOR: DIANA GARDIN
GENRE: ROMANCE

The best rules are the ones worth breaking . . .

After his mother’s funeral, ex-Army Ranger Drake Sullivan wants only to disappear and drown his sorrows in whiskey. Then he sees her: Mea Jones. An untamed, sexy-as-hell whirlwind of energy. A few years ago, she showed him the best-and hottest-night of his life, then walked away without a backward glance. But he’s never stopped wanting more.

When it comes to guys, Mea has rules. One night. No dating. Whatever it takes to have control and keep it. With Drake, it’s all heat and hurt and hunger, and pretty much the opposite of control. And that makes him dangerous as hell. Mea has her own demons, and falling in love-or even in lust-is strictly a no-go proposition. But she soon finds out Drake is incredibly single-minded when it comes to getting what he wants. And he’s determined to be the exception to all her rules.

Reader advisory: The heroine’s past deals with dark elements some readers may find disturbing. Recommended for mature audiences only.

B&N Kobo iBooks G. Play

Her voice voice has gone all low and husky, and my dick instantly jerks to attention like it’s responding to a signal that only she knows. “Yeah?” The thudding of my heart is heavy, harsh, and violent.
She breathes out. “Yeah.”
She lifts her eyes, big, warm, and beautiful to meet mine. I’m hypnotized for a minute, just staring into them while she stares right back. With an uncontrollable surge of need, my body moves into autopilot and I just react.
I tug her wrist, pulling her off the back of the bike. When she’s standing beside me, a quick gasp escapes her as I pull her to straddle my lap.
And then she’s mine.
Her lips are mine, her mouth belongs to me.
And I pillage.
And I plunder.
At the insistent urge of my tongue, she opens to me with a moan. I pull back for a second.
“Sexiest sound I ever heard, baby.” I don’t want to scare her, but I can’t do much more than growl at this moment.
Claiming her lips again, I taste her and she’s perfect. Fucking perfect. She presses against me, forcing me to go deeper, to kiss her harder. When she grinds her hips against my rock-hard cock, I can’t take it anymore. Her hands sift through my hair. Rough, rough, rough.
I wrench away from her devilish mouth and grab her ass. The fact that any other rider could come along at any moment only amps me up, not slows me down. I lift her up, and when I plunge her back down on top of me she clamps down on her bottom lip with her teeth and drops her head into my shoulder.
“Drake,” she whispers. Harsh, harsh, harsh.
Then she bites down hard on my shoulder.

I absolutely LOVE Diana Gardin’s Battle Scars Series and was dying for Drake and Mea’s story and I can tell you that it was everything I wanted and MORE!
The history between Drake and Mea had been a bit of a mystery until now and when we find out the full story I was like a cheerleader at the one minute mark of a tied football game…I wanted these two together like nothing else! There are so many ups and downs and it’s all so emotional and intense I was glued to each and every page. Now, I won’t give anything away but I will say that all of the highs and lows end so deliciously perfect and I couldn’t be happier.
I also loved getting to see all of the characters I have grown to love in this series.  I will continue too look forward to more and more from this amazing and fabulous group of characters!
Thank you, Diana, for yet another kick ass read!

Worked Up by Tessa Bailey…Review

worked up

Synopsis:

Factory mechanic Duke Crawford just wants to watch SportsCenter in peace. Unfortunately, living with four divorcee sisters doesn’t provide much silence, nor does it change his stance on relationships. But when a fellow commitment-phobe stumbles into his life, getting him good and worked up, he can’t deny his protective instincts.

Samantha Waverly’s brother just put her in an impossible situation. The only way out? Marry huge, gruff, gladiator look-alike Duke—for show, of course. She doesn’t make promises—she knows too well how easily they can be broken—and this is no exception.

As the blistering attraction between them grows, the lines around the no-strings relationship blur. But Duke and Samantha’s marriage is only for show…or is it?

My Review:

Worked Up is the third book in author Tessa Bailey’s Made in Jersey series and if this is the first you’re hearing of this series, let me tell ya, you are missing out!  If you’ve been as obsessed with the series as much as I have been then I’m here to tell you that Duke will rock your world just as much as you knew he would and more!

One of the things I love most about Tessa’s heroes is that lurking under a most often gruff exterior and alpha male traits they always, always, have a soft side and a hugely endearing quality to them.  Duke was seriously the biggest shining example out of all of her book men. This big old bear of a man is surly and gruff but melted my heart when he took care of the people he loves.  He does it quietly and without any fanfare and if that didn’t make him even more special.  Now, he just needed a gal in his life who would appreciate him and the larger than life package he is.  Enter Sam…

I’m not sure how Tessa continues to come up with heroines I can’t help but love, but she’s done it again.  I usually can find at least one fault in a heroine when I’m reading.  Nope, not with Tessa’s book gals.  Sam was a shining example of fun, quirky, interesting, kind, and just plain awesome.  I loved her humor and I loved her dreams. She’s just a girl trying to make her way in the world and whether it be personally or professionally she’s determined to make it happen.

Together these two were off the charts amazing in so many ways. Of course, in signature Tessa fashion, the chemistry and heat are off the charts but the deeper level these two reached was just so fantastic to read.  Both have reason to hold off on a relationship but they also have reason to give this relationship a chance. Of course there are a few stumbles along the way but the ending TOTALLY stole my heart and you can bet I was crying and laughing and an all out emotional mess while reading it…and I loved every second!

Of course, I’ve gotta give special mention to the good/bad jokes and the puns!  It made my punny heart sing!

Duke has sure ruled this lady…and it was royally epic! Thank you, Tessa, for another kick ass read!

About the author:

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

Guest post by award-winning, best-selling Texan author Linda Warren

I write about Texas and cowboys because that’s what I know. I grew up on a farm/ranch in Texas. My dad raised cotton, corn and cattle. He also drilled water wells and was the constable in our community. He was busy and often worked late at night. My three brothers and I rarely saw him, but Sunday was our day. The day we spent with Dad. After early mass and a big dinner my mom had prepared, we’d go to the picture show (that’s what we called it back then ). And yes, you guessed it, it was always a western. My dad wouldn’t watch anything else. I grew up on Gary Cooper (High Noon), Glenn Ford (3:10 to Yuma), Gregory Peck (The Gunfighter), and John Wayne (Red River, Rio Bravo). “Saddle up, pilgrim.” John Wayne couldn’t act, but it didn’t matter. His strong male persona was enough. Wagon Train (Robert Fuller) and Rawhide were TV favorites at our house and I had a hard time taking my eyes off Clint Eastwood, Rowdy Yates. A-ah!

I’ll always remember those Sunday afternoons. My brothers couldn’t wait for the shootout with the bad guys. They were always making gun noises during the movie. I couldn’t wait for that last scene where the hero rides away with the heroine, sometimes holding her hand. I just knew they were going to live happily ever after. I would be going, “Ah.” My brothers would be sticking their fingers in their mouths and gagging at the scene.

After the movie we’d go for ice cream and my brothers would be acting out the fights and the shootouts. I’d be daydreaming. At that age I wasn’t even thinking about being an author, but those Sunday afternoons and those westerns influenced me in ways I never realized until many years later.  Cowboys have a way of sneaking into my books. Maybe it has something to do with the unwritten code of honor and moral fiber I saw in the heroes of those old movies. Fighting for a cause and willing to die for it. Throw in a romance and it can’t get any better.

BROKEN DOVE

Kristin Ashley - headshotAbout Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Synopsis

Drake Sullivan has served as the strong and steady savior his entire life. But when his alcoholic mother’s funeral dredges up some old, dark, emotions, he finds himself struggling to put the bottle down himself. His inner demons are threatening to tear him apart, despite the fact that the sexiest woman he’s ever met keeps showing up in every area of his life again and again.

For Mea Jones, one night with Drake wasn’t enough. As much as she hates to admit it to herself, he got under her skin three years ago during their one-night stand, and she’s been trying to forget him ever since. But now their best friends are getting married, and the fact that they keep getting thrown together is making it harder to ignore his striking face and hulking, perfectly sculpted ex-Ranger’s body.

When the electricity between them can no longer be restrained, the fireworks that ensue are hotter than the sun. But will their relationship be able to survive the darkest secret from Mea’s past rearing its ugly head? Or the demons within Drake working to bring him down the same path that destroyed his mother?

His expression carries a hint of danger and a sexy confidence that’s all Drake. His biceps bulge through his gray long-sleeved Henley, and it pulls taut over the broad planes of his chest. I can’t help it; my eyes scan every inch of him slowly. Hungrily. A gradual flame has been burning since I saw him this morning, and seeing him now, straddling his ATV, looking all windswept and sexy, it’s going to spread into an uncontrollable fire really quick. His faded jeans fit him just right; I can see the strong ridges of his thigh muscles as he clenches the seat.

“Mea.” My eyes look to his, startled at the sandpaper tone in his deep voice. “Get on my ride.”

My eyebrows fly up. “What?”

“Get on. I won the bet. That’s what I want. You behind me on this four-wheeler.”

Oh, hell. The usual Mea would never allow a man to order her around. The usual Mea would usually tell him exactly what he could do with his bet and turn my back. But with Drake, I don’t want to be the usual Mea.

The usual Mea is lonely, deep down. She doesn’t let anyone get close enough to see the profound slices that mar her heart and the war wounds that afflict her soul. The usual Mea gets by with shallow, surface emotions that are usually enough to fool those around her, and deflecting questions that get too personal, cut too deep.

But that Mea is bone-weary and Drake is slowly wearing away at the wall she’s built around her so artfully.

I don’t hesitate. Climbing off my ATV, I walk the few short steps it takes to get to him and climb on the back. My arms go around his slim waist and my face lies against his back. He smells like outdoor air, pine, and scented soap.

It’s becoming my new favorite scent.

His right hand reaches back, curling around my thigh with deliberate possession. When he looks back at me, there’s no humor in his eyes.

“Ready?”

It’s a loaded question. Am I ready to ride on the back of this ATV with him?

Yes.

Am I ready to trust him with my safety?

Yes.

Am I ready to give my body over to him, passionately and with abandon?

Yes.

Am I ready to trust him with my heart?

Not yet.

It’s locked up too tight, and I’m not sure I can even remember where I hid the key.

Excerpt:

It had been so easy to gain Asher’s attention. Then again, she had dressed the part. Though Rachel hadn’t expected such an immediate interaction with him, she was still pleased. She’d guessed right in what would draw his attention.
“Good evening,” he said in a smooth, deep brogue that she wanted to hate but couldn’t.
She nodded, smiling “Evening.”
“Ah. American.”
“Is that a problem?”
He was quick to shake his head. “No’ at all. I’ve several close friends who are married to Americans. I’m Asher, by the way.”
She took his hand. His long fingers tenderly wrapped around hers as his Scottish brogue fell from his lips. “Rae.”
“A curiously male name for a verra feminine woman.”
“It’s a nickname.” It was a trick of any good undercover journalist worth their salt to remain close to the truth in any scenario. Sharing an old nickname allowed her to use something other than her name, but still answer to it because she knew it.
“And your real name?”
She smiled flirtatiously. “That I save for those I deem worthy.”
One side of his lips lifted in a shockingly seductive grin. He leaned back in his chair casually, those bright green eyes of his studying her, as if by staring he might be able to see all the secrets she kept hidden away.
Rachel found herself gazing into his eyes. Never had she seen eyes such a dazzling green before. Even if she hadn’t known he was an immortal and a Dragon King, the truth of who he was blazed in those eyes of his.
“Your smile is fading. Why?” he asked, a small frown forming.
“Do you believe you can see a person’s soul in their eyes?”
“Aye,” he replied immediately.
