My Review:

I totally have to start out this review by saying I don’t read nearly enough of Meg Cabot. This is my second book of her work that I’ve read and I loved everything about it.

Not only is this story full of funny, quirky, interesting characters and has a really great story line, but the format this book is written in is SO awesome! Maybe it’s because I spend my days in social media land and text my fingers off, but the way this book reads, with snippets from text convos, on-line messages, Facebook pages, and emails, had me glued to each page!

Onto the story itself, I have to say, I adore a good scandal and reunited old flame plot and this nails both of those. The Stewart family has drama happening in spades and I ate it up with a spoon.

Overall this book was a fun read written in a fantastic format and again I have GOT to get more Meg Cabot on my book shelves!

It was one of Maverick’s favorite dreams.

He and Alexa had gone up to Swallow Falls in Western Maryland for a weekend getaway and were staying in one of the mini cabins at the state park. He frowned and kissed her jaw, her cheek, her mouth.

It was the kiss that did it. Something wasn’t right. The memory playing out in his sleep-fogged mind didn’t feel like the reality confronting his physical senses. His eyes blinked open.

And he found himself lying on top of Alexa. Not in the cabin at Swallow Falls years before. In the gray morning light of his house. Her wide hazel eyes stared up at him.

He reared off of her in an instant. “Fuck,” he said, coming to stand by the couch. Alexa looked stunned—and so fucking sexy that Maverick barely resisted crawling back on top of her. She lay on her back in his clothes, on his couch, her knees drawn up and falling out, her hair sleep-mussed and sexy. Jesus. He adjusted himself, unable to hide his raging hard-on, and scrubbed at his face. “Goddamn dream. I’m sorry, Alexa. I didn’t mean to do that.”

“You . . . you were dreaming. Of me?” she whispered.

His gaze narrowed. “Don’t ask a question you don’t want the answer to.”

She swallowed and licked her lips. “What if I do want it? The answer,” she added.

Years of need and longing roared through Maverick like a drug he’d mainlined. His thoughts spilled out unfiltered. “Damnit, Al. You’re laying there in my clothes in my house with your thighs spread after I’ve just woken up holding you. My skin smells like you. And I’m sporting an erection because of you. Don’t fuck with me.” The words came out harsher than he intended, but she couldn’t play with him. Not on this. Not when he cared so much. Not when he wanted so much.

Her mouth dropped open and her chest rose and fell a little quicker. “I’m not playing a game. I want to know.”

Planting his hands on his hips, Maverick studied her. Her beautiful, languid body. Her pretty, open face. Her eyes, honest and free of pretense. He felt pulled in a million directions. Between wrong and right, between taking advantage and taking care, between giving in and opening himself up to a world of hurt. “I was dreaming of you. Of us. Up at Swallow Falls.”

“That night we—”

“Yes,” he growled.

“Maverick—”

My Review:

The Sexy One is the newest work form author Lauren Blakely and in this installment we get to dive into the complicated and sexy as hell story of Abby and Simon who have been circling each other for what seems like forever. I was DYING for this story, I tell you, and it was worth very angst spent minute of wait. So so so so so GOOD!

While you don’t have to read the other books in this series, I think in order to get the depth of the forbidden fruit/hidden attraction thing going on here, you really need to read them all. And bonus? ALL of them are just as freaking good.

Ok, moving on, what I want to start out by saying is that the characters Ms. Blakely writes are some of the most real, three-dimensional people I have ever read. The nuances and character traits she writes into her people are second to none. They feel so damn real. Like I could call them up and meet for coffee…and man, how I wish I could! Abby and Simon, being two of those type of characters, were so amazing to read. Simon is a freaking unicorn of a man and father. I’m sure many ovaries exploded after reading him and his relationship with is daughter. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s sexy as hell and so damn mindful and attentive when it comes to Abby that I was in total swoon-fest mode. This guy just rocks my world! Abby is just as amazing and is a gal with a good head on her shoulders, great sense of humor, and is wicked smart. She’s totally someone I would love to be friends with. Together, the attraction and sexual tension is off the charts. The tension didn’t just jump off the pages, it leaped out, grabbed me and gave one of those “snap out of it” slaps Cher did in Moonstruck. It was SO GOOD! And when Abby and Simon finally give in to the attraction? Forget about it. It was so damn delicious and I ate it up with a spoon and wanted seconds and thirds.

Once again, Ms. Blakely delivers a Laughing Cow book served with your fave glass of wine. This is a story, and series, I recommend with the highest of recommendations. Thank you, Ms. Blakely, for another kick ass read!

My Review:

Bound to Submit is the newest work in author Laura Kaye’s Blasphemy series and after loving the series kick off, I was so excited for this release. I just knew this was going to be a story I was going to love, and oh my, was I right. This book was everything!

I love a reunited lovers story and this tale was told so unbelievably beautifully that once I started it, I just couldn’t put it down. There was so much raw and high emotion between Kenna and Griffin it was impossible for me not to feel it as if I was the one in this book. Their story both broke my heart and mended it, broke me and put me back together. The reunion between these two incredible characters was so touching. I knew Kenna would find the healing she needed in her former lover and Master, Griffin, and she did with a completeness that made me swoon. The time they spent apart, while beyond difficult when they went through it, was necessary for both Kenna and Griffin to grow and realize what they had in each other and their connection. The old saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder” in this case was so damn true.

I have to pay tribute to another key element in this story: Kenna and Griffin’s physical relationship. Oh. Boy. Not only was it off the charts hot, the bondage scenes were written so well and so beautifully that I could picture it in my mind’s eye perfectly. It’s almost another main character in this story and I loved it.

I am so thrilled this series is just beginning and I have no doubt it’s going to be one hell of a journey. I can’t wait for more of these Masters! Thank you, Laura, for a phenomenal read!

Griffin stood in front of her. “We’re practicing Sunday night’s demonstration position. I want to make sure you’re comfortable with it and that it’s not too taxing before we do it in front of an audience, especially since the demos always run a little longer.”

“Yes, Sir,” Kenna said, kneeling naked at his feet.

“I’m going to tie you up. Flog you until your skin is hot and pink. And make you come you until you’re mindless. Understand?” His voice was like gravel, and the bulge in the front of his jeans told her that he was as turned on as she was.

“Yes, Master Griffin. I’m ready.” She shivered.

“Then let’s begin. I want you to sit on your bottom, back straight, knees bent.”

Moving as quickly and gracefully as she could, Kenna got into position. He never revealed what the position would be or exactly how she would be bound, so there was always a thrill of discovery about his bondage that she loved. She took a deep breath as the twine fell against her skin. First, he wrapped a long length around her breasts, squeezing them and making them sensitive, and then he had her sit forward so that her upper body was against the fronts of her thighs.

Each brush of his fingers aroused her. Each wrap of the rope excited her. Each pressing knot pushed her into that place she loved to be.

Next, Master Griffin worked loop after loop around her lower back and the backs of her thighs, holding her in a folded position. His hands moved in what felt like intricate patterns against her spine as he connected those ropes to the ones around her breasts in what felt like some sort of erotic harness.

And then he came around the front of her. “How are you?”

“All Green, Sir.”

He nodded, and then he worked the twine in a stunning pattern down each arm before binding her arms flat against the fronts of her shins, folding her tighter over her legs. It was as he worked on her front that she noticed that he used black rope that matched her prosthetic—had he planned it that way? She wouldn’t put it past him, because the effect was absolutely beautiful against her skin. And part of the point of Shibari was the artist quality of the bondage.

She moaned at how good it felt and looked, and at the fact that Master Griffin was the one who made her feel this way—the only one who had ever made her feel this way.

“You look so fucking beautiful, Kenna,” he ground out as he secured her wrists to her ankles, and then her elbows to the soft spots behind her knees. “There.” He rose and walked around her, and just his observation made her breathe harder, faster. What did he see when he looked at her? Did he see the beauty of his work? Or did he see the damaged woman who’d come home from war?

Focus.

“Now it’s time for the suspension, little one. Once I start lifting you, just give in to the motion.”

“Yes, Sir,” she said, her voice breathy, her pussy already wet with her need.

She concentrated on her breathing and the music and the sounds Master Griffin was making. She couldn’t see what he was doing with the ropes behind her back and the pulley system he’d lowered from the ceiling, so she didn’t concern herself with it, she just gave herself over to what was about to happen, even though she didn’t know exactly what that was.

And then she rose into the air…

My Review:

Okay, so I was a little nervous when I first picked up Of Flame and Light. It’s in first person POV, not my favorite, and it’s book seven for the Weird Sisters, but my first book in the series. We’re already at two strikes and I’m only on page one!

I shouldn’t have worried. I mean, you do lose a bit of continuity and backstory if you’re not reading them in order, but it didn’t dampen my enjoyment of this story too much and I was able to keep up.

I loved the world –building. Enough to want to go back to the beginning of the series and start from there. Taran was fun. Thrown into a situation where she has to train with a coven of witches that she’s not exactly friendly with in order to regain control of her magic, Taran is forced to admit she’s not always the tough guy. I really liked watching her grow and learn. She’s a fighter.

The romance with Gemini was at turns incredibly annoying and incredibly fun and satisfying. Two stubborn people who can’t see what’s in front of him can get tiresome after awhile, but it all worked out in the end and I was invested in them as a couple.

Nice pacing, very cool world-building, and a whole cast of interesting characters = a good read.

Three-and-a-Half Loves

Excerpt:

I hurry forward when I realize I’m just standing there, gaping at them.

I don’t think I take more than a few steps when something crunches beneath the sole of my left boot. I think it’s a stick, but the sound seems off, especially since the ground is so moist. I lift my foot only to jump away.

“T, you coming?” Shayna calls when I don’t move.

“T?” she asks again.

I swallow hard, hoping I’m imagining things as they run back to me.

“What’s wrong?” Emme asks. Unlike Shayna who’s fired up for all the action about to go down, I can sense the worry in her voice.

“Bren . . .” I begin, pointing to the spot near my feet. “Is that a, um, toe?”

He cocks his head. “Nah.”

Emme places her hand over her heart and sighs. “Oh, good—”

“It’s a thumb,” he answers. He sniffs the air. “Right hand, male, and the poor bastard’s been dead a long time.” He looks ahead. “Yeah, this shit’s not good. Call it in, Shayna, but type it. Don’t use voice-to text.”

“Why, dude?” Shayna asks, reaching for her phone in her back pocket.

“Because I’m not sure how well this bitch can hear, or if she has other things listening for her,” he responds.

He motions ahead to a crow. It squawks twice in our direction and flutters away.

Shayna lifts her phone to show us the blank screen. “Phone’s dead, kids.” She quickly pockets it and places a handful of toothpicks in her palm. “I wouldn’t bother, Emme,” she adds when Emme reaches for her phone. I doubt any of our phones are working.”

“She’s right,” Bren says. He shoves his phone into the backpack Emme is carrying and peels off his white T-shirt.

“This keeps getting better and better,” I mutter.

Bren strips out of his jeans, leaving only his underwear and shit-kickers on. “Em, stay behind me,” he tells her. “Shayna, you’ve got the rear.”

Which leaves me in front of Shayna and the most protected. I’ll be honest, this helpless damsel in distress role does nothing for my morale.

I march ahead, forcing myself to snap out of the shock of finding some guy’s thumb, push aside my fear, and tap into my inner diva. I remember a little too late that my inner diva is louder and usually sashays in platform stilettos. I slow my steps, careful not to disturb the creepy things hiding in the bushes.

Let me be the first to tell you, woods are bullshit and top of the scales of the scary meter, second only to graveyards. It’s the reason so many horror movies are based here, and why I’m watching out for psychos with machetes lurking behind trees. But given our past experiences, where danger lurks, so do the dark ones. I’ve had my fill of alleyways, construction sites, abandoned structures, but especially these damn eerie woods!
