Howdy all you lovely Read-Love-Blog fans! Jillian here with something super fun…
I recently fell in love with an awesome on-line shop, Literary Book Gifts. They have the coolest stuff for booklovers like us and I actually had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful and creative gal behind it all. Everyone, meet Melissa! We teamed up for something a little bit different than our norm here and we’re pretty sure you’ll love it.
I was curious how the shop began and where her inspiration came from for the designs and she graciously let me pick her brain in the interview below.
But, on top of that, she is giving you guys a promo code for 20% off your ENTIRE purchase! HOW COOL IS THAT!?
The code is in bold at the bottom of her interview 🙂
Well, without further adieu, enjoy the interview and thanks for stopping by!
- You have the CUTESET things! How did you come up with the idea for your shop?
Thank you so much! Literary Book Gifts was an idea that came about because I wanted to express my love of literature not through writing, but through design. I was intrigued by the fact that because artwork is visual, we can all experience it at the same time. When reading books at the same time we are often chapters, or books apart, so when it comes time to discuss the ideas aren’t always fresh in our minds. With the designs being integrated into one’s wardrobe, you could see someone wearing a Beowulf shirt and say you know, “I loved that story!”, or is “Beowulf a good story?” thus bringing about discussions based around reading, writing, and books.
- What design is your absolute fave?
I have so many, it’s hard to choose! I definitely love how the The Call of the Wild turned out, I love the silhouette of the dog!
- Is there a book you’ve read recently that you’d love to make a design for?
Yes definitely! There are so many I’d love to make designs for. One would be A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and perhaps I will just in time for the holidays!
- How many designs have ended up on the cutting room floor?
Lots actually, I am quite selective about which designs go into the collection. There are some titles that I haven’t been able to come up with anything suitable for so I’ve put them on the backburner for now. For Moby Dick I’ve lost count of how many times I redid that one. I’m pretty happy with it now but I think there were about six previous ones that were tossed.
- What literary character (dead or alive) would you love to have dinner with?
Hmmmm, I would say Elizabeth Bennet from [Pride and Prejudice]!
- What literary world would you love to live in?
This is an easy one, I am a big Harry Potter fan so I would love to live in J.K. Rowling’s world of fantasy and magic. In particular at the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!
- What book are you reading right now?
Right now I’m reading The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow. I think it is absolutely amazing, it reminds me a lot of On the Road by Jack Kerouac but is quite different and unique in it’s own way.
